Gaylene Holden McDowell went home to be with Jesus on January 14, 2022, 
at the age of 80. Gaylene was born October 3, 1941, at the hospital in 
Smith Center, Kansas, to George H. Howard and Leola (Oberdorf) Howard. 
Gaylene attended the Smith Center schools and, upon graduation, attended
 Fort Hays State University where she attained her Master's of Nursing 
Science degree with a 4.0 GPA and worked as an RN until her retirement. 
 Upon graduation in 1963, she married Jerold "Sam" McDowell on June 1, 
1963, and began her long career in nursing. 
 In her free time, she watched Sam set collegiate records on the 
hardwood. She then worked in the Manhattan, Kansas, hospital while Sam 
attended veterinary school. In Manhattan, her daughter Sandra Renee' 
Henderson was born in 1966. In June of 1968, she moved with her family 
to their new home, a ranch in rural Lebanon, Kansas, when her son 
Shannon McDowell was born, and where she lived the remainder of her 
life. Gaylene was active in the Thornburg Church, attended numerous 
Bible studies, supported missionaries around the globe and shared her 
faith and love with all those she encountered. The joys of her life 
were her husband, her children, her grandchildren and, recently, her 
three great-grandchildren, Charlie, Zeke and Kai. She visited her 
grandchildren Joshua McDowell, Jacob Henderson, Rachael Dozier, Rebecca 
Timmons, and Lydia McDowell every opportunity she had and their mere 
presence brought a smile to her face and heart every time. Due to 
distance, she was not able to visit her great-grandchildren as often as 
she would have liked but enjoyed facetiming with them every chance she 
had. 
 Gaylene prayed daily for each of her family and spoke of them to all
 who would listen. In her free time, she was an avid volunteer with her
 church and local library, and was an avid card player and book reader. 
 Gaylene was a frequent guest of her son's along with his wife, Lori, 
and her mother, Karen Griffith, where many a heated game of cards or 
dominoes took place. She had many friends and made new friends daily. 
Gaylene never met a stranger and tried to help and encourage all those 
she met. 
 She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Leola (Oberdorf) Howard, and her son-in-law, Randy Henderson. 
 Missing her are: her husband, Jerold "Sam" McDowell; children Sandra
 "Sandy" Henderson and her son, Jacob Henderson; Shannon McDowell (Lori)

Wesley Rollins Higby was born December 16, 1941, in Wichita, KS to James
 &amp; Grace (Bachelder) Higby and passed away on January 23, 2022, in 
Smith Center, KS. 
 Wes graduated in 1959 out of Smith Center, KS. After graduation 
Wesley went to help his grandparents in TX. He joined the National 
Guards in 1963 and served until 1966. Wesley married Patricia Crawford 
August 13, 1964. Wesley also helped with the service station at Olson's 
in Red Cloud, NE and ran the Phillips 66 in Smith Center. Patricia Higby
 passed away on January 15, 1977. Wesley married Freda Trimmer on May 
26, 1978, they later divorced. Wesley than met Dianne McPherson in 1991 
and they relocated to Pawnee Rock for a job. They moved back to Lebanon,
 KS in 1993 to help his parents on the farm. Wesley and Dianne married 
on May 23, 1993. 
 Wesley is survived by his wife Dianne of the home; son Jeff Higby of
 WV; daughter Teresa Mohler and partner Joel White of Lebanon; daughter 
Tina Jones of Red Cloud, NE; daughter Michelle and Brad Von Feldt of 
Great Bend, KS; stepson James &amp; Shelly Corp of Alta Vista, KS; step 
daughter Toni Barker of Wichita, KS; son Curtis &amp; Virgine Higby of 
Rexford, KS; daughter Nellie Cloke and partner Isaac Salazar of 
Hutchinson, KS; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren,

Tammy Harris Morris, 58, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday, 
February 1, 2022, at the Stormont Vail Health Center in Topeka, Kansas

Tammy was born on May 29, 1963, in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of 
Kenneth Mitchell and Billie Jean (Zimmerman) Beck.&nbsp; She grew up in 
Ellsworth and graduated from Ellsworth High School.&nbsp; She graduated from 
Brown Mackie College in 1983.&nbsp; She was united in marriage to Ray Morris 
on October 25, 2021, in Russell, Kansas. &nbsp;She formerly worked as a 
certified nurses assistant at Wheatland Nursing Home in Russell. She 
currently was owner and operator of Bonus Full Services.&nbsp; She was a 
longtime member of the Second Baptist Church in Russell.&nbsp; She enjoyed 
shopping, decorating, painting and caring for her family and friends.&nbsp; 
Most of all she loved God and loved going to church and spend time with 
her family.&nbsp;

Surviving family include her husband Ray Morris of the home, 
daughters Acasia Smith of Great Bend, Kansas, Ashadia Harris, Anajia 
Harris, Amirriah Harris-Morris, Ajadia Morris and son Ray Morris, Jr. 
all of Russell, Kansas; brother Joel Cleavenger and wife Marcia of 
Salina, Kansas and step-brother Les Javens of Russell.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Janet Daniels and infant brother Evan James Mitchell.

Cremation has been selected by the family and a memorial funeral 
service to celebrate Tammy’s life will be held at 12 P.M. on Saturday, 
February 12, 2022, at the 2nd Baptist Church in Russell.&nbsp;

married Billy Joe Grinstead on January 26, 1958, at Coolidge.

 worked at the Syracuse Livestock Commission Company for over 30 years, 
mainly as the Office Manager. She loved to crochet, sew and especially 
travel on the back of their Honda Goldwing motorcycle. Her special time
 was the family reunions. She was a member of the Syracuse United 
Methodist Church. 
She is survived by her Husband- Billy Joe Grinstead, her 3 Children-

Lydia Juanita Grinstead

Sister Mary Louise Pfannenstiel, CSA, formerly known as Sister Theodore,
 died unexpectedly and peacefully February 1, 2022, at St. Agnes 
Hospital, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
 Mary Louise was born in Hays, Kansas, on September 20, 1937, the 
daughter of Theodore L. Pfannenstiel and Basilia Wittman Pfannenstiel. 
Shortly after her birth, her parents moved with Mary Louise to a family 
farm in Plainville, Kansas, where she spent her childhood. Her mother 
died when she was ten years old, leaving Mary Louise to be raised by her
 father, her grandmother, and her aunts. In September of 1951, Mary 
Louise entered St. Agnes Convent in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and attended
 St. Agnes High School. She made her profession of vows in the 
Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes as Sister Theodore on August 15, 
1956.
 Sister Mary Louise received a BS in Elementary Education from Marian
 College, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, an MS in Elementary Education from St.
 Francis College, Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and a Certificate in Library 
Science from Marian College of Fond du Lac. An avid learner and lover of
 books, she also earned several additional credits throughout her years 
in active ministry in religious studies, children’s literature, the 
teaching of reading, and building school libraries. From 1958 —1972, 
she was a primary grade teacher at St. Florian School, Milwaukee, 
Wisconsin; St. John the Baptist School, New Haven, Indiana; St. Joseph 
School, Decatur, Indiana. Beginning In 1972, she served as a learning 
center coordinator and librarian at St. Nicholas School, Evanston, 
Illinois; Brother Dutton School, Beloit, Wisconsin; and Sacred Heart 
School, Colby, Kansas. Sister Mary Louise returned to her birthplace, 
Hays, KS, in 1989 to care for her father and to volunteer as a primary 
teacher aide, library assistant, childcare provider, and foster 
grandparent at St. Joseph School in Hays, now known as Holy Family 
Elementary School. After her father’s death in 1998, she remained in 
Hays to continue her volunteer service until joining the community of 
CSA sisters at Nazareth Court and Center in Fond du Lac in October 2013.
 
 Sister Mary Louise will be remembered for her creative efforts to 
share with children her love for reading and literature. While deeply 
proud of her Kansas roots, she loved to travel and visit historical 
sites across the country often riding for days on a bus to reach her 
destination. Gifted with a brilliant mind, an inquisitive spirit, and a 
heart for the poor, she was unwavering in her determination to remain 
actively engaged in the life and mission of her CSA community even as 
her increasing physical limitations made travel and group participation 
more difficult. She kept her resolve to live life fully—up to the 
moment of her unexpected death.
 Sister Mary Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her infant 
sister Joan Catherine, her stepmother Pauline Leiker Pfannenstiel, and 
her aunts Sister Mary Bridget Wittman, CSA, and Sister Audrey 
Pfannenstiel, CSA. 
 She is survived by her aunt, Mildred Walters; her cousins; and the 
Sisters of St. Agnes, with whom she lived, prayed and ministered.
 Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2022, from 9 
–11:00 a.m. and from 12:00 -1:30 p.m. at Nazareth Court and Center, 375 
Gillett Street, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. A Prayer Service will be held 
at 11:00 a.m. in Nazareth Center Chapel. Please check in for the 
Visitation and Prayer Service at the 375 Gillett Street entrance only.
 A Mass of Christian Burial for Sister Mary Louise will be offered on
 Thursday, February 10, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. in St. Francis Home Chapel, 
33 Everett Street, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, with Father Larry Abler, 
Capuchin, presiding. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Springs Cemetery, 
Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

School, Colby, Kansas. Sister Mary Louise returned to her birthplace, 
Hays, KS, in 1989 to care for her father and to volunteer as a primary 
teacher aide, library assistant, childcare provider, and foster 
grandparent at St. Joseph School in Hays, now known as Holy Family 
Elementary School. After her father’s death in 1998, she remained in 
Hays to continue her volunteer service until joining the community of 
CSA sisters at Nazareth Court and Center in Fond du Lac in October 2013.
 
 Sister Mary Louise will be remembered for her creative efforts to 
share with children her love for reading and literature. While deeply 
proud of her Kansas roots, she loved to travel and visit historical 
sites across the country often riding for days on a bus to reach her 
destination. Gifted with a brilliant mind, an inquisitive spirit, and a 
heart for the poor, she was unwavering in her determination to remain 
actively engaged in the life and mission of her CSA community even as 
her increasing physical limitations made travel and group participation 
more difficult. She kept her resolve to live life fully—up to the 
moment of her unexpected death.
 Sister Mary Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her infant 
sister Joan Catherine, her stepmother Pauline Leiker Pfannenstiel, and 
her aunts Sister Mary Bridget Wittman, CSA, and Sister Audrey 
Pfannenstiel, CSA. 
 She is survived by her aunt, Mildred Walters; her cousins; and the 
Sisters of St. Agnes, with whom she lived, prayed and ministered.
 Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2022, from 9 
–11:00 a.m. and from 12:00 -1:30 p.m. at Nazareth Court and Center, 375 
Gillett Street, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. A Prayer Service will be held 
at 11:00 a.m. in Nazareth Center Chapel. Please check in for the

Mr. Joseph William “Joe” Patzner Jr., 81, of Joplin, Missouri, 
formerly of Claflin, Kansas, departed this life on Friday evening, 
February 4, 2022, while at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Missouri.&nbsp;

Joe was born on April 9, 1940, on the family farm in Claflin, Kansas,
 son of the late Joseph and Georgia (Wesley) Patzner.&nbsp; He joined the 
United States Army in 1961, serving three years in Germany as a Spec. 
4.&nbsp; He married Mary Patricia Redding on May 29, 1965, in Claflin at 
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He worked in construction most of
 his life and was a superintendent most of those years.&nbsp; He was 
twenty-five year member of the Knights of Columbus.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Georgia Patzner; a son Brent Alan Patzner; and a sister, Dorothy Carver.&nbsp;

Joe is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Patricia Patzner; a
 son, Bradley Alan Patzner and wife, Laura; two grandsons, Matthew 
Patzner and wife, Amy and Jacob Patzner; one granddaughter, Shelby 
Yinger and husband, Brian; two great grandchildren, Kellen and Mila 
Patzner; sisters, Anna Dreiling of Wichita, Kansas and Sue Von Feldt of 
Topeka, Kansas; as well as a host of other family and friends.&nbsp;

Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at 1:00

Florene Jane Messamore (Bixenman)

Audrey Lee (Field) Gibson, age 95, departed this life to be with her 
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at SunPorch 
of Smith County in Smith Center, KS. She passed away peacefully after a 
courageous battle with covid and age related complications from 
progressing dementia.
 On June 14, 1926, Audrey Lee was born to Banks Avery Field and 
Delilah Fern (Brewer) Field at a farm near Formoso, KS. The oldest of 
their four children, she was joined three years later by sister Ruth 
Colleen, five years later by sister Margaret Janice, and sixteen years 
later by brother Stephen Banks. Her father managed the Formoso Co-op 
filling station while her mother was a homemaker. Growing up during the 
Great Depression and WWII, she developed a love for children and 
teaching at an early age.
 Audrey attended grades K through 12 in Formoso graduating with the 
Class of 1944. Upon graduation, she went one year to Fort Hays State 
before teaching five eighth graders in a two room school at Lovewell. 
After her first year of teaching, she retuned to Fort Hays State for 
another year to obtain a teaching certificate that allowed her to teach 
language arts to seventh and eighth graders at Mankato junior high for 
four years. Audrey pursued summer school and continuing education 
classes to ultimately earn a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Elementary 
Education from Fort Hays State in the summer of 1961.
 During her third year of teaching at Mankato, she met the earthly 
love of her life. Audrey was united in marriage to Dr. Charles “Doc” 
Howard Gibson, Jr. on August 18, 1950, at the Formoso Christian Church. 
Doc and Audrey were committed in their marriage to serving the Lord and 
supporting each other’s respective ministries - his in the chiropractic 
field and hers in teaching. They celebrated over 55 years of devotion 
before Doc departed for Heaven on February 18, 2006. Their daughter and 
only child, Jill Joann, was born to this union on September 12, 1951. 
 Following her daughter’s birth, Audrey took a six year recess from 
teaching while the family moved from Superior, Mankato and Hill City 
before finally settling in Smith Center in 1955. In
 1957 Audrey accepted what was a temporary position to teach fourth 
grade at Smith Center Elementary School and continued to teach fourth 
grade there for 35 years until her retirement in 1992. Although she was 
recognized as an Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America in 1975, is 
listed in Who’s Who Among American Teachers, and received numerous 
awards for her innovative teaching and community service, Audrey would 
humbly tell you that she simply loved her students and enjoyed teaching.
 One of the most important things in Audrey’s life was her 
relationship with Jesus Christ. Growing up she regularly attended Sunday
 school and church at the Formoso Christian Church. During a camp 
meeting with the church’s high school youth group the summer she turned 
sixteen, Audrey responded to an altar call and trusted Jesus Christ as 
her Savior. Upon marriage, she transferred her church membership to 
Methodist. Audrey was very active in the Smith Center United Methodist 
Church where she taught Sunday school to fifth, sixth and junior high 
students for over twenty-five years as well as served faithfully in many
 of their ministries including the Methodist Lay Witness Movement of 
1970. From this experience, she developed a personal relationship with 
Jesus Christ. In 1997, she followed her husband and joined the Smith 
Center Evangelical Free Church where she was a regular attender and 
participant in their women’s ministries until she entered the nursing 
home in 2017. Even at the nursing home, Audrey went to the nursing home 
church services and Bible studies when able.
 Never one to be idle, Audrey liked being busy. She was a lifetime 
member of both Delta Kappa Gamma and the Gideon Auxiliary, a Hospice 
volunteer from 1992 to 1999, an avid golfer, a world and bus trip 
traveler, an excellent cook and baker, and a participant in activities 
too numerous to mention. She enjoyed spending time with her family, 
socializing, reading the Bible, attending Bible studies, praying, and 
sharing the Gospel. She placed her faith in action through loving and 
serving and was blessed with a full life well lived for Jesus Christ.
 Audrey is preceded in death by her beloved husband Doc, her parents 
Banks and Delilah Field, her brother Steve Field, and a dear aunt Martha
 Isis (Brewer) Bowles.
 Survivors left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Jill 
Gibson of Smith Center, KS; sister, Ruth Berneking of Salina, KS; 
sister, Margaret Dellett of El Dorado, KS; numerous nephews and nieces; 
former students; caregivers; and friends.

Martha Jean “Nean” Dixon, age 95, passed away on February 1, 2022, at
 the Greeley County Hospital in Tribune, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born on April 
11, 1926, in Fort Scott, Kansas, the daughter of William Vern &amp; Edna
 Marguerite Masterson Dixon Sr.&nbsp; A resident of Tribune, Kansas, since 
1996 moving from Dodge City, Kansas, she was a Teacher and Bookkeeper.

She taught school in Deerfield, Kansas, Longview, Washington, 
Norwalk, California, Thousand Oaks, California, and Dodge City, Kansas.&nbsp;
 Jean also taught military-dependent children for the Department of 
Defense on bases in Germany, the Philippines, and Japan.&nbsp; She also kept 
books for Montgomery Ward in Fort Scott, Kansas, and for Dixon Drug in 
Tribune, Kansas.

Jean was a volunteer at the Greeley County Library in Tribune, 
Kansas, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Scott, Kansas, 
First Presbyterian Church of Tribune, Kansas, and the Kansas &amp; 
National Education Association.

Leta Fern Moses, 96, of Colby, died Sunday, February 6, 2022, at the 
Gove County Long Term Care, in Quinter, KS. She was born January 31, 
1926, in Gem, KS, to August and Nettie (Kiefer) Woerpel. On August 15, 
1942, Leta marred Emery Moses. To this union 5 children were born. Leta 
enjoyed her flower garden, reading and sitting with a good cup of 
coffee. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Emery; son Rick Moses;
 grandchildren, Chase Moses, Caitlin Moses, Connor Moses and Melissa

1926, in Gem, KS, to August and Nettie (Kiefer) Woerpel. On August 15, 
1942, Leta marred Emery Moses. To this union 5 children were born. Leta 
enjoyed her flower garden, reading and sitting with a good cup of 
coffee. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Emery; son Rick Moses;

Leta Fern Moses

Judith Lee (Krehbiel) Musselwhite, 82, was escorted by the angels of God
 into the eternal presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus The Christ on 
Wednesday February 2, 2022. 
Judith was born June 15, 1939, in Goessel, Kansas, the daughter of Orville
 and Elnor (Hinderliter) Krehbiel. As a young girl they lived on a 
family farm in Galva, and the family moved from Galva to Amy where she 
attended grade school. Judith graduated from Dighton High School with 
the class of 1957. 
Judith met Ron Musselwhite while attending Bethany College as a music 
student and the two were married July 31, 1960 in the Dighton United 
Methodist Church. Their first home was in Plevna, KS, where they then 
moved to Dighton, where Judy, taught briefly, music at the school in 
Shields, KS. Judy then found her true calling of being a loving and 
devoted mother and wife. The family relocated a few times, to Meade, KS,
 then Goodland, KS, where she was involved in many different music 
organizations, one being an officer of the Goodland Federated Music 
Club. Ultimately, Ron and Judy settled their family back in Dighton. 
 Being available and involved in her daughters’ daily activities was 
extremely important. 
Judy was a jovial spirit and loved unconditionally, putting others 
before herself. She was a woman of many talents who enjoyed gardening, 
music, and arts. She was loving and creative, as co-owner of Pheasant 
Phantasies she used that creativity to cultivate beautiful arrangements 
that still adorn the family home today. 
Survivors include her Husband- Ron, of the home, three Daughters- 
Beverly (Mark) Crump of Pratt, Linda Musselwhite of Concordia, Valerie 
Musselwhite of Belleville, Grandchildren- Kasey (Alicia) Crump of 
Liberal, Corbyn Crump of Salina, Cooper (Taylor) Crump of Pratt, 
Great-Grandson- Ronin Crump of Liberal, Siblings- Tony (Judi) Krehbiel 
of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jim (Genelle) Krehbiel of Scott City, Larry (Vicki)

Judith Lee (Krehbiel) Musselwhite

Junior Arthur Miller, best known as 'JR', born April 15th, 1937, in Glen Allen, Missouri, died February 4th, 2022, in Munjor, Kansas.&nbsp; He was number 6 of 11 children.

Junior married the love of his life, Velma 'Ruth' Cornelison, December 10th, 1955, in Desoto County, Mississippi.&nbsp; JR is survived by his children, Richard (Elaine), Angela Smitherman, Lisa Barnes (Randy), and Ronald.&nbsp; He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, and his daughter Mickie.

Junior served proudly in the United States Army.&nbsp; He was a machinist most of his life.&nbsp; JR will be best known for performing in various venues playing his guitar, he was a great bluegrass and country-western singer.

He will be buried next to Ruth at Pierce Brothers Crestlawn Memorial Park in Norco, California at a future date.

Ronnie G. Robinson, 77, passed away February 3, 2022, at his residence
 in Larned. He was born June 24, 1944, the son of Roy E. and Elora Mary 
Devine Robinson. A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer.

He was a member of the Scared Heart Catholic Church and he loved working on the farm.

Survivors include: two brothers, Donald Lynn Robinson, Larned and 
Larry Lee Robinson, Topeka; one nephew, Roy Gene Robinson, Larned and 
one niece, Holly Lynn Rivera, Topeka.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Lonald Roy Robinson and one niece, Sherry Lynn Robinson. &nbsp;

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 7, 2022, at the 
Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned with Father Bernard Felix 
presiding. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday February 6,

Barbara N. (Carl) Butts

Clint Steinert, 52, died February 2, 2022, at McPherson Hospital.&nbsp; He
 was born July 23, 1969, in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of Carl Dean and 
Clydell (Rafferty) Steinert.&nbsp; Clint was a 1987 graduate of Quivera 
Heights High School, Bushton, Kansas. He then went on to receive his 
Associate Degree from Hutchinson Community College in 1989.

On January 19, 1991, he married Tina Marie Ploutz in Ellsworth, Kansas. She survives.

A resident of Lyons since July, Clint and Tina were formerly of 
Olmitz, Kansas, where they had made their home for the past 20 years.&nbsp; 
Clint currently enjoyed working as a truck driver for Ellinwood Feeders.

Clint was a member of St. Pauls Catholic Church of Lyons, and 
formerly of St. Ann Catholic Church of Olmitz.&nbsp; He was a member of the 
Knights of Columbus Council # 2100, in Olmitz, and formerly of the 
Volunteer Fire Department where he had served as the assistant chief.&nbsp; 
He also enjoyed serving on the board for the Great Bend Bat Cats.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Tina Steinert of the home; 
two daughters, Cortney Schwarz (Jeff) of Oakley, and Cayla Steinert of 
Garden City; a grandson, Conner Dean Schwarz; parents, Carl and Clydell 
Steinert of Bushton; three brothers, Craig Steinert (Tom Mulloy) of 
Kansas City, Missouri, Curtis Steinert (Kim) of Lehigh, and Cory 
Steinert (Traci) of Midlothian, Texas; five nieces and nephews, Casen 
Steinert, Cheyenne Steinert, Hadley Steinert, Hudson Steinert, and 
Daxson Rippen; and family of the heart, Chase Gibson of St. Louis, 
Missouri, Knute Steinert of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and Ron Batchman 
of Hoisington.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, with family to greet 
friends from 6 to 8 p.m., and Knights of Columbus Rosary to begin at 7 
p.m., all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington, Kansas.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m, Saturday, February 12, 
2022, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Olmitz, celebrated by Father Michael

Clint Steinert

Manuel Anaya-Molina, 61, passed away on February 4, 2022, at his home in Bazine, Kansas.  He was born on September 15, 1960, in Chihuahua, Mexico the son of Francisco and Cruz (Molina) Anaya-Flores.

He was an operator and floor hand in the oil field and an all-around excellent handyman known for his hard-work habit, but also able to relax as he was an avid fisherman and loved to take his family fishing. Manuel was full of love and life and will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

Manuel is survived by his partner of many years, Rosa Santoyo of Bazine; four sons, Manuel (Elivia), Frankie, Norman and Christian Anaya; daughter, Mariana Flor Anaya all of Oklahoma; three brothers, Jorge Anaya of Jaurez, Mexico, Julian and Ernesto Anaya both of Oklahoma; and his special family, Jose, Alex, Saul, Debo, and Emma Rivera, Samuel Sargent (Lauren), Anna Stout (Talon) all of Kansas; and 15 grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be on Saturday, February 5, 2022, 1:00 p.m., at the Sacred Heart Church, Ness City. Visitation will be held at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City on Friday, February 4th, 2022, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Manuel Anaya-Molina

&nbsp;Lucy Mildred (Schippers) Baier, age 85, of Hays passed away Thursday, February 3, 2022, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. &nbsp;She was born February 20, 1936, in Victoria, Kansas, to John M. and Anna C. (Kippes) Schippers. &nbsp;She attended Victoria Grade School and was a 1954 graduate of Victoria High School.

She married Paul J. Baier on November 6, 1954, in Victoria. &nbsp;After 60 years of marriage, he preceded her in death September 19, 2015.

During the early years of their marriage, they lived in Russell where she worked for United Telephone Company. They later moved to the Baier family farm at Vincent in 1972. She helped her husband with all the farm chores including milking the cows, raising chickens, gardening, and harvesting.&nbsp; She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Vincent, for 36 years where she belonged to Christian Mothers, took care of the church, and was a sacristan for over 7 years before moving to Hays in 2008.&nbsp;

While in Hays, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and served on the Parish Council. &nbsp;She was a Eucharistic Minister, lector, and served the homebound. She was a member of Victoria Daughters of Isabella and Victoria V.F.W. Auxiliary .&nbsp; She served on Hays Medical Center’s Auxiliary and the Ellis County Election Board at Pfeifer, Victoria, and Hays. She enjoyed playing pinochle, bingo, and especially trips to the casinos.

(Kippes) Schippers. &nbsp;She attended Victoria Grade School and was a 1954 graduate of Victoria High School.She married Paul J. Baier on November 6, 1954, in Victoria. &nbsp;After 60 years of marriage, he preceded her in death September 19, 2015.During the early years of their marriage, they lived in Russell where she worked for United Telephone Company. They later moved to the Baier family farm at Vincent in 1972. She helped her husband with all the farm chores including milking the cows, raising chickens, gardening, and harvesting.&nbsp; She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Vincent, for 36 years where she belonged to Christian Mothers, took care of the church, and was a sacristan for over 7 years before moving to Hays in 2008.&nbsp;While in Hays, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and served on the Parish Council. &nbsp;She was a Eucharistic Minister, lector, and served the homebound. She was a member of Victoria Daughters of Isabella and Victoria V.F.W. Auxiliary .&nbsp; She served on Hays Medical Center’s Auxiliary and the Ellis County Election Board at Pfeifer, Victoria, and Hays. Pennie L. Spencer, age 60, of Great Bend, Kansas passed away on 
Saturday morning, January 29, 2022, at the University of Kansas Health 
System–Kansas City, Kansas.&nbsp; 

Pennie was born on May 22, 1961, at 
Hutchinson, Kansas to Alan and Annabelle Nadine (Wenger) Spencer.&nbsp; She 
graduated from the Garden City Community College School of Cosmetology 
and was a Licensed Cosmetologist for many years. She also worked at 
Larned State Hospital and later as a Home Health Worker for Sunflower 
Diversified Services in Great Bend. In recent years, health issues had 
prevented her from working, but Pennie loved Buy-Sell-Trade shopping 
online and bought and sold antiques.&nbsp; She loved history – especially 
Titanic-related history. Pennie was very involved with her 
grandchildren, and was known for her tremendous inner strength, even as 
she faced her own mortality.

Pennie is survived by her 3 sons:&nbsp; Jason E. Spencer (&amp; Brian 
Culver) of Hutchinson, Kansas; Ryan (&amp; Kathryn) Shull of Salina, 
Kansas; and Steven Shull of Utica, Kansas; seven grandchildren: Ayla, 
Lily, Gracie, Olivia, and Aiden Shull and Emily and Zachary Douglas; two
 sisters:&nbsp; Brenda Love of Hoisington, Kansas, and Cathy Savolt of Salina,
 Kansas; nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, a

Pennie L. Spencer

Gail Dean Wolf was born to Celestine and Rosalie (Stapleton) Wolf on 
September 17, 1946 in Quinter, KS, and died on February 2, 2022, in 
Buhler, KS.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Michelle; 
and daughter, Gaylene.&nbsp;

Gail married Michelle Sue Bruce on December 20, 1969, in South 
Hutchinson. They had three children.&nbsp; Gaylene Celeste Wolf was stillborn
 on December 29, 1970.&nbsp; Shane Daniel Wolf was born on February 7, 1972. 
He resides with his husband, Michael ‘Shawn’ Ranspot in Bucks County, 
Pennsylvania.&nbsp; Amy Deann Berry was born on May 19, 1975.&nbsp; She and her 
husband reside in Houston, Texas.&nbsp; Gail is also survived by two 
grandchildren, Rachel Michelle Belinoski (Justin), Houston, Texas, and 
Brandon Shawn Berry (Morgan Rohr), Hutchinson.&nbsp; Rachel and Justin's son,
 Max Celestine, is Gail's only great-grandchild.&nbsp; He also survives.&nbsp;

Gail lived in Houston with Amy and Kenneth for a period of time and 
it was then that he and ‘Baby Max’ formed a task force using a ‘blaster’
 (Gail's cane) as ammunition to aid Godzilla in the war against threats 
to humanity.&nbsp; He loved encouraging Max's wild imagination, though he was
 not allowed to ‘hog’ the blaster.&nbsp;

Gail had two brothers whom he was very close to.&nbsp; The camaraderie 
among them was paramount.&nbsp; Jerry ‘Briar’ Wolf (Patricia Roberts, 
deceased), South Hutchinson, and Billie ‘Willis’ (Christine), Medora.&nbsp;

Gail and Billie married sisters who were orphaned as teenagers due to
 the early deaths of their parents which factored into a particularly 
strong sense of loyalty to family.&nbsp; Following Michelle's death, 
Christine made it her priority to see to Gail's best interest the way 
his late wife and her sister would have.

Gail worked at William Kelly Milling in Hutchinson until it closed 
and then as plant manager at FeedEx Corporation in South Hutchinson 
until its closing. He finished his work life as the Director of 
Maintenance at Reno County Youth Shelter in 2011.

Gail and Michelle opened their home to numerous teens in need of foster care.

Gail was an avid and accomplished hunter. He also enjoyed fishing and watching the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals.

Gail's contagious laugh and unique way of expressing himself made him
 one of a kind.&nbsp; He filled his many roles as son, brother, husband, 
father, grandfather, uncle, and friend with purpose and integrity. He 
will be missed by all.

Rosary will be 6:30pm Monday, February 7, 2022&nbsp;at Elliott Mortuary.&nbsp; 
Visitation with the family present will follow the Rosary.&nbsp; Funeral mass
 will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at St. Teresa Catholic

Gail Dean Wolf

Ralph “Ernie” Breeding, 76, passed away February 1, 2022, in 
Hutchinson. He was born in Klamath Falls, OR, to Ralph and Edith 
Breeding.

Ernie married Jo Tope on March 9, 1992, in Perryton, TX.

After graduating from high school in Hugoton, KS, Ernie moved to 
Washington, D.C., where he lived with his grandparents, Congressman J. 
Floyd and Sevilla Breeding.&nbsp; While there, he attended Pennsylvania 
Military College and Georgetown University.

Ernie moved back to Kansas to attend Fort Hays State University and 
St. Mary of the Plains, where he graduated.&nbsp; Following graduation, he 
owned a boot store in Gunnison, CO.&nbsp; Ernie also received his private 
pilot’s license, and started guiding hunting and fishing trips.&nbsp; He 
later moved to Dodge City, to take care of his grandmother, Sevilla.

In Oklahoma, Ernie obtained his commercial pilot’s license, and began
 doing aerial photography.&nbsp; In the Dodge City area, he was a real estate
 agent.

Among all Ernie’s accomplishments, he was also a member of the Santa 
Fe Trail Association, Quails Unlimited, Millbrook Wranglers (Single 
Action Shooters Association in Hill City), and Cowboy Action Shooters. 
His many hobbies included hunting and fly fishing.

Ernie is survived by:&nbsp; his wife, Jo; his mother, Edith; sister Susan;
 the Derstein family, and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

He was preceded in death by:&nbsp; his grandparents, Congressman J. Floyd 
and Sevilla Breeding; father, Ralph Breeding; brother, Wayne Breeding; 
and sister, Jana (Breeding) Ricker.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at 
Arlington United Methodist Church, Arlington, KS.&nbsp; Burial will follow in

Ralph 'Ernie' Breeding

Luella “Lou” Faye Beemer, 75, of Sterling, died January 30, 2022, at 
Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born January 14, 1947, in Scott 
City, to Lyle R. “Skeeter” and Vera M. (Schmidt-Hasz) Marker.

Lou graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1965. She was twice 
retired: working at Southwestern Bell/ATT for 28 years, starting on the 
corkboard and retiring as a customer service representative, and then in
 Central Supply at Hutchinson Hospital. Lou was currently working as a 
clerk in the Parks Department for the city of Hutchinson.

She enjoyed taking classes at the Delos V. Smith Senior Center and 
was an avid shopper. Lou loved horseback riding and being “Grandma” to 
many children besides her own. She was a member of Riverside Baptist 
Church and was active in many ministries of the church.

On September 3, 1978, Lou married Al Beemer in Cotopaxi, CO. He survives.

Also surviving are: her daughters, Kelly Freeman (Wade Flemming) of 
Andover, Kimberly Shelburn (John) of Haysville, Misty McCulley (Aaron) 
of Clearwater; grandchildren, Nicholas Knapp (Bethany), Rickie Kelley, 
Dakota Day, Kyndel Mooningham (Austin), Joshua Shelburn, Preston 
Shelburn, Noah Shelburn, Isabella Shelburn, Levi Shelburn; 7 
great-grandchildren; siblings, Claudia Easter of Port Richey, FL, Connie
 Hawver of Hutchinson, Larry Buckbee (Almira) of Wichita; 
sister-of-the-heart, Kay Nagy of Hutchinson; and many extended family 
members.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Beverly Barker.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Riverside Baptist Church, 1100 W. 21st Ave., Hutchinson. The service will be livestreamed on the church's Facebook page.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with family present from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

 </figure>Luella “Lou” Faye Beemer, 75, of Sterling, died January 30, 2022, at 
Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born January 14, 1947, in Scott 
City, to Lyle R. “Skeeter” and Vera M. (Schmidt-Hasz) Marker.Lou graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1965. She was twice 
retired: working at Southwestern Bell/ATT for 28 years, starting on the 
corkboard and retiring as a customer service representative, and then in
 Central Supply at Hutchinson Hospital. Lou was currently working as a 
clerk in the Parks Department for the city of Hutchinson.She enjoyed taking classes at the Delos V. Smith Senior Center and 
was an avid shopper. Lou loved horseback riding and being “Grandma” to 
many children besides her own. She was a member of Riverside Baptist 
Church and was active in many ministries of the church.On September 3, 1978, Lou married Al Beemer in Cotopaxi, CO. He survives.Also surviving are: her daughters, Kelly Freeman (Wade Flemming) of 
Andover, Kimberly Shelburn (John) of Haysville, Misty McCulley (Aaron) 
of Clearwater; grandchildren, Nicholas Knapp (Bethany), Rickie Kelley, 
Dakota Day, Kyndel Mooningham (Austin), Joshua Shelburn, Preston 
Shelburn, Noah Shelburn, Isabella Shelburn, Levi Shelburn; 7 
great-grandchildren; siblings, Claudia Easter of Port Richey, FL, Connie
 Hawver of Hutchinson, Larry Buckbee (Almira) of Wichita; 
sister-of-the-heart, Kay Nagy of Hutchinson; and many extended family
