
Robert P. Schulz, 99, Hill City, Kansas died peacefully February 18,
2022. Robert was born to Julius Ferdinand and Pearl Josephine (Norris)
Schulz, August 22, 1922 in Fairbury, Nebraska. Bob attended grade school
in Artesia, New Mexico and Carlsbad, New Mexico. The family moved to
Kansas when Bob was 10 years old. Belleville, Kansas became the family’s
permanent home. Bob was a 1941 graduate of Belleville High School.
In 1942, Bob found himself a new enlisted member of the United
States Army. World War II found him Europe, several places in the U.S.,
and in the Pacific Islands, being honorably discharged in September of
1946.
Following his discharge Bob worked several jobs. He became a meat
cutting apprentice for four years. That experience led him to managing a
grocery store’s meat department for 15 years and the store manager for
two years. In 1965, Bob bought the grocery store in Hill City, which he
ran until his retirement in 1991. Bob’s retirement years were divided
into six months in Hill City and six months in Tuscon, Arizona.
Bob married Bonnie Hensley in in 1943, becoming not only a husband
but a stepfather to Bonnie’s 1½ year old son, Robert. Their marriage
lasted for 50 years. Bonnie died in 1993. Later, Bob and Colleen
Blackburn were married. Colleen died in 2004. In July of 2009, Bob
married Donna “Sam” Tietze. She survives.
Bob enjoyed the outdoors. He hunted and rarely missed an
opportunity to go fishing. He was an integral part of the Hill City
Community, a member of the AF&AM Lodge #281, Isis Shrine Temple of
Salina, and an Elder in the Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Julius R. and
Frank; sisters, Virginia Wray and Patricia Kuhn; wives Bonnie and
Coleen; son, Robert.
He is survived by his wife Donna “Sam” Schulz; three
grandchildren: Jeff (Jenny) Schulz, LeAnne Schulz and Amy (David)
Hasemann; sister-in-law Kathleen Schulz; three grandchildren, five
great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
