
Mary Catherine (Herrman) Dreher, age 92, passed away on August 18, 2025, at her home at Dove Estates in Goddard, Kansas. She was born on September 18, 1932, the daughter of Isidore and Albertina (Legleiter) Herrman, on the family farm in Liebenthal, KS.
On November 21, 1950, Mary was united in marriage to Alex J. Dreher, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Liebenthal, KS, and officiated by her uncle, Msgr. John George Herrman. Mary and Alex shared 57 years of marriage before his passing on December 14, 2007. Together, they raised four children: Ronald, Stephen, Cathy, and Laura.
Mary attended St. Joseph’s Parochial School in Liebenthal, KS, and graduated from Schoenchen High School (KS) as the salutatorian. A dedicated homemaker, she also played a vital role in the family business, Dreher’s Tank Service in Plainville, where she worked as a bookkeeper and dispatcher for 35 years.
A devout Catholic, Mary was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville, the Sacred Heart Guild, and the Daughters of Isabella. She served as Recording Secretary for the Daughters of Isabella for 25 years and was proud to receive her 60-year service pin in 2021.
Mary loved her family dearly and cherished the times she could spend with them. She had many interests including traveling, playing cards, Scrabble, bingo, dominoes, crossword puzzles, cooking, reading, and crocheting. She particularly enjoyed her visits from family and friends and corresponding through old fashioned letter writing. She really enjoyed getting to know new people.
Survivors include two sons: Ronald (Candice) Dreher, Wichita, KS and Stephen (Alisa) Dreher, Forney, TX; two daughters, Cathy Meier (Brian), Wichita, KS and Laura Dreher, Forney, TX; brother, William Herrman (Lucy), LaCrosse, KS; ten grandchildren: David (Rachel) Dick, Stacy Beiker, Alex S. (Courtney) Dreher, Kristin (Adam) Ring, Megan Pearson, Luke Meier, Abby Meier, Niccolle Wells, Halie Wells, and Kiara Wells; and 15 great-grandchildren: Steven, Riley, Jordyn, and Blake Dick, Taryn and Avryn Beiker, Addilyn and Everett Dreher, Kyler, Kolby, Klara and Kason Ring, Hunter Pearson, Noah Nixon, and Kamaria Wells
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alex; brother, Mike Herrman; and sisters, Viola Depperschmidt, Henrietta Haselhorst, Lillian Leiker and Georgiana Herrman.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville, with burial following at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 PM, with a vigil and rosary at 7:00 PM, all at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
