Dorothy “Dot” Mindrup (Androes) died peacefully on April 20, 2022 in Olathe, Kansas at the age of 91.
 Dorothy is survived by her children, Donald Michael (Mike) and wife,
 Arleen, David Thomas and wife, Mary, all of Olathe, Kansas; four 
grandchildren Amanda (Strauss), Jason, Joseph, and Rachel Mindrup; four 
great grandchildren Hailey, Adaline and James Strauss and Violet 
Mindrup, and brother Herman J Androes of Buda, Texas. She is preceded in
 death by her parents Herman Androes and Hermine Androes; husband Alfred
 John Mindrup; siblings Leroy Androes and Ginny Logan (Androes). 
 Dorothy was born on December 13, 1930 in Newton, Kansas to Herman 
and Hermine Androes. She graduated from Bethel College in 1952 with a 
Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities. She later earned her Master of 
Science in Counseling, in 1969, from Fort Hays State. After graduating 
in 1952, Dorothy worked as a high school English teacher and Librarian 
in Burns, Kansas for 2 years, then for Braniff Airways in Dallas and 
Austin, Texas for 2 years. Dorothy then worked at Lenora High School in 
Lenora, Kansas starting in 1956 until her retirement in 1992, where she 
was a Counselor, Librarian, and taught English and German. She married 
Alfred John Mindrup, a farmer on June 7, 1957. The couple welcomed two 
children into their home. Her children remember her as a loving mother 
who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
 Dorothy was accomplished at writing poetry and stories and often 
wrote poems for family and friends’ events and accomplishments. She was a
 dedicated wife and mother who loved reading, writing, and painting. She
 was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and often volunteered at 
quilting.
 Visitation will be held at Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home in Norton, 
Kansas on Monday, April 25, 2022 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A second 
visitation will be held at 9:30 am before the service on Tuesday at the 
Parish Hall in New Almelo. Graveside services will be Tuesday, April 26,
 2022 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery in New Almelo, 
Kansas with a reception to follow in the St. Joseph Parish Hall. Father 
Matthew Cowan will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and
 celebrate Dorothy’s life.

Dorothy 'Dot' Mindrup

Ella Mae Ward Schulze was born October 15, 1926, to Ned Donald “Hap” Ward
 and Anna Marie (Miller) Ward in her parents’ rural farm home in 
Gothenburg, NE. Ella Mae grew up with four brothers, Donald, Fred, 
Scott, and John. She passed away on April 19, 2022, at Whispering Pines,
 Norton, KS at the age of 95.
 Ella Mae attended Antelope Rural School. Because of sickness, Ella 
Mae had to repeat first grade, but made that year up by completing 5th 
and 6th grade in one year. The family moved to Gothenburg where Ella 
Mae graduated from Gothenburg High School with the Class of 1944. 
During her junior and senior years of high school, she was a part of the
 Work Study program, working as a bookkeeper for Swanson Oil. 
Immediately after graduation, Ella Mae car pooled to Lexington, NE where
 she worked for the Wartime Rations Board. Even though she was only 
eighteen, Ella Mae became the office manager over five other employees. 
 Later she transferred to North Platte, NE, to work for the Civilian 
Rations Board. When that office closed, she went to work in the office 
of Crawford Electric as a secretary, traveling with the office to 
wherever construction was taking place in Kansas and Nebraska.
 She met Glenn Schulze at the Norton office when she came down the 
stairs to deliver a message to his boss. On April 7, 1950, Glenn and 
Ella Mae exchanged their vows at the Methodist Church Parsonage in 
Columbus, NE, making their home in North Platte, NE. In 1951, Glenn and
 Ella Mae moved back to the family farm in Norton after the death of 
Glenn’s brother. In 1959, they purchased a farm closer to Norton where 
they would live for over 60 years and raise four children.
 Ella Mae was an extraordinary farmer’s wife to Glenn and mother to 
their four children. Gardening and canning, processing chickens, taking
 meals to the harvest field, cooking and baking ensured that her family 
was well taken care of for many years. She served over 25 years in the 
nursery at the Norton Christian Church. Ella Mae had the magic touch 
with children, especially babies. She loved to play card games with 
neighbors and grandchildren. She threw endless baseballs at the bat of a
 waiting grandchild. Ella Mae’s chicken and noodles will be missed at 
family gatherings. Ella Mae was active in her church circle, Vitaband 
exercise classes, EHU, FHA, and 4-H. Reading, embroidery, and watching 
“Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune” were favorite hobbies in her later 
years. In the 1960s, Ella Mae began working at the local sale barns and
 auction company, eventually becoming the office manager for Norton 
Livestock Auction for many years. She was proud of the fact she was 
heterochromic, having one blue eye and one brown eye.
 Glenn and Ella Mae were privileged to live on their family farm 
until May 2020 when they entered the Andbe Home after Ella Mae fell, 
breaking a hip. A second broken hip and COVID delayed Ella Mae’s 
reunion with Glenn after he relocated to Whispering Pines. In August 
2021, Ella Mae and Glenn were reunited and were able to celebrate their 
72nd wedding anniversary before Ella Mae’s death.
 Surviving are husband, Glenn, a son Timothy (Mary) Schulze of 
Norton, KS, daughters LuAnn Walters of Hays, KS, Glenda (Bob) Susnik of 
Pittsburg, KS and Roberta (Jeff) Cramer of Leawood, KS, brother John 
(Karen) Ward of Roseville, CA, and sister-in-law Mary Ward of 
Gothenburg, NE. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and 
fourteen great grandchildren. 
 Preceding her in death were her parents, brothers Don, Scott, and Fred and son-in-law Robert Walters.
 A memorial service will be held at a future date. Memorial

Ella Mae Ward Schulze

Warren Wittman, age 76, from Victoria, Kansas, died Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at the Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

He was born November 9, 1945, on the family farm at Vincent, Kansas&nbsp;to Wendelin and Mathilda “Tillie” (Pfannenstiel) Wittman. &nbsp;He married Arlene (Huser) on&nbsp;May 1, 1964, at Vincent.

Warren was a farmer and a butcher, starting his career at P &amp; B Packers in Hays. &nbsp;He then worked at the Victoria Farmer Co-op Store for 19 years, and in 1988 went to U-Save Food Store in Hays until they closed. &nbsp;He&nbsp;and his wife Arlene&nbsp;opened Warren’s Meat&nbsp;Market in Hays,&nbsp;in 2002 and sold the business in 2020.&nbsp;&nbsp;He grew up on the farm at Vincent and continued farming and raising cattle throughout his lifetime.

He attended Victoria High School, was a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis,&nbsp;the&nbsp;3rdDegree Knights of Columbus, and the 4th Degree Assembly Knights of Columbus&nbsp;all of Victoria.&nbsp;&nbsp;He had a number of rental properties that he would buy&nbsp;and sell, enjoyed game shows, Dairy Queen, and vegetable gardening,

Survivors include his wife, Arlene&nbsp;Wittman, of the home; his children, Kelly Kuhn and husband, Ivan,&nbsp;Andale, KS;&nbsp;Lori&nbsp;Lane and her husband, Grant,&nbsp;Hutchinson, KS;&nbsp;Curtis Wittman,&nbsp;and&nbsp;his&nbsp;fiancé, Kristi Younger Victoria, KS;&nbsp;his grandchildren, Haley (Joe) Barrow; Gabe Kuhn; Isaac Kuhn; Luke Kuhn; Jaylen Lane; Jocelyn (Tom) Mailloux; Jaron Lane; Joseph Lane;&nbsp;his great-grandson, Leo Mailloux;&nbsp;and&nbsp;his brother, Wayne Wittman, Hays, KS.&nbsp;

Kerry Lee Bahl, 89, Pleasanton, California, died Sunday, March 27, 2022, at Stanford Health Care-ValleyCare in Pleasanton.

He was born July 10, 1932, the son of 
Albert and Genevieve (Werth) Bahl.&nbsp; Kerry married Dorothy Engel in 1956 
after he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force, where his 
assigned duties included test and maintenance of electronic fusing and 
firing systems of nuclear weapons.&nbsp; This skill and training led to his 
occupation as physicist for Lawrence Livermore Labs of Livermore, 
California, until his retirement.&nbsp; After 64 years of marriage, Dorothy 
preceded him in death on April 8, 2020.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 am 
on Saturday, April 30, 2022, in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, with military 
honors by the Hays VFW Post 9076 Honor Guard.&nbsp; Funeral arrangements are 
in the care of Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

Kerry Lee Bahl

Johnny Ray Stoskopf, 69, passed away on April 19, 2022 at his home in
 Great Bend, Kansas. He was born on September 30, 1952, at Hobbs, New 
Mexico, to Kenneth Lee &amp; Virginia Lee (Grimes) Stoskopf.

A life-time resident of Great Bend, Johnny was a member of the River 
of Life Foursquare Church and Central Kansas Association for the 
Visually Impaired. He was a former member of the Peace Corps, having 
served in Ecuador.

Survivors include two sisters, Connie McKnight of Missouri, and Karen
 Cruz of Great Bend; two brothers, Jim Stoskopf of Colorado, and Jack 
Stoskopf of Rhode Island; a half-brother, Lane Heape of Olathe; and 
numerous nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by his parents.

Visitation will take place on Friday, April 22, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. 
to 8:00 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home with family receiving guests from 
6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. 
Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Hoisington Cemetery with Pastor David LeRoy
 presiding.

Jennifer Flock passed away tragically at the early age of 41. She was the most beautiful soul among people. She always knew how to make people smile. 

She had many jobs throughout her life, ranging from a certified nurse aide to a filer at Adams, Brown, Beran &amp; Ball. Her main care in her life was her children, whom she loved and cared for dearly. Jennifer had a heart of gold. The many jobs she worked were always helping people in some way. 

She loved children, and always saw the good, even in the bad. She loved fishing and watching mukbangs. The last few years were rough on her, but her family always loved her. 

She is survived by her children, Ethan Ryan Flock, Trista Lynn Flock, and Adin Lyle Flock; her ex-husband Clifton Lee Flock; her parents Dewey D. Ball Jr, and Linda Dyanne Ball; her sisters Christina Ball and Kimberly Rasmussen; as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Harold Berend, age 91, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2022, at St. 
Francis Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. Harold was born on July 2, 
1930, in Archer City, Texas to Anton and Eleanor Wachsman Berend. Harold
 was a farmer, rancher, and postmaster throughout his life. He had been a
 resident of Marienthal since 1954 having moved from Windthorst, Texas. 
He was a member of St. Mary Church of Marienthal where he was also a 
member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a 4-H leader for 13 years. He 
was the girls'&nbsp;softball coach for the Knights of Columbus summer league 
and a Wichita County Amusement Association Volunteer.

Harold married Edith Luebbers on August 1, 1955, in Marienthal, Kansas. She passed away on April 21, 2014.

Survivors include his children: Janet &amp; Arturo Pacheco of 
Garland, Texas, Deanna &amp; Charlie Fraley of Dighton, Kansas, Linda 
&amp; Joe Becker of Hays, Kansas, Mike Berend of Leoti, Kansas, Rita 
&amp; Simon Bartel of Garden City, Kansas, Carol &amp; Daren Ruth of 
Johnson, Kansas, Gina &amp; Jimmy Perkins of Melissa, Texas; his 
siblings, James Berend of Windthorst, Texas, Margaret Schroeder of

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, Manuel
 Berend, Emery Berend, Jerome Berend, two sisters Mildred Pennartz, Alma
 Pennartz, and one infant son, Gordon Berend.

The funeral mass will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022, at St. Mary Church in Marienthal, Kansas at 10:30 a.m.

Vigil service will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at St. Mary Church in Marienthal, Kansas at 7:00 p.m.

Visitation will be at Price and Sons funeral home in Leoti, Kansas at
 Fourth and J, on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00

Fleta Lucille Hanlon was born June 3, 1930, in Norton County, KS to William 
A. and Mabell Minerva (Barrett) Engelhardt. She passed away April 16, 
2022, at the Norton Andbe Home at the age of 91.
 Fleta grew up in Norton, Kansas and graduated from Norton Community 
High School in 1948. For years, she worked as a Telephone Operator for 
Bell Telephone in Norton until they closed and then later in Abilene, 
Topeka, and various locations. While in Topeka, she was an active member
 for the Silver Haired Legislature. She married Lewis V. Howell, he 
passed away in 1977. Fleta then married Wayne Hanlon and gained six 
stepchildren from their marriage. In her spare time, she enjoyed 
painting, gardening, and taking care of plants since she had a green 
thumb. Most of all Fleta loved spending time with her nieces, nephews, 
and grandchildren. She was a member of the Norton Christian Church, 
American Legion Auxiliary, and the Norton Genealogical Society. 
 Fleta was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Lewis in 
1977; second husband, Wayne in 2001; brother Howard Engelhardt, and 
sister, Helen Bryant. She is survived by her sister, Virginia McMillin 
of Delia, KS; brother, Lyle (Nancy) Engelhardt of Almena, stepchildren: 
John, Curtis, Rosalie, Theresa, Linda, and Lucinda; and many nieces, 
nephews, great and great-great nieces, and nephews. 
 Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Saturday, April 23, 2022, at 
the funeral home Burial will follow at the Norton Cemetery. Visitation

Mary S. Rintoul, 67, of Hutchinson, died April 14, 2022, at Wesley 
Medical Center, Wichita. She was born March 15, 1955, in Garden City to
 David and Mildred (Heinemann) Rintoul.

Mary graduated from Garden City High School in 1973, and from 
journalism school at Kansas University in 1977. Following her graduation
 from KU, she was the sports reporter for the Ellsworth Reporter and 
began working for the Hutchinson News in 1985, retiring as Managing 
Editor after 30 years. Mary loved to play bridge and Scrabble. She also 
interviewed the residents and compiled a newsletter for her senior 
community at Legend of Hutchinson.

Mary was known for her quick wit and her insightful, sometimes 
acerbic, writings about human beings and the institutions that they have
 created. She was serious, thorough, and lived up to the highest 
standards of journalism in her work at both the Ellsworth Reporter and 
the Hutchinson News.

Mary is survived by: son, Max Rintoul, Dallas, TX; sisters, Helen 
Wells (Al), Hutchinson, Anne Rintoul, Hutchinson, Janet Young (John), 
Grand Junction, CO; brothers, David Rintoul (Elizabeth Dodd), Manhattan,
 John Rintoul (Betty), Carrboro, North Carolina; and many beloved nieces
 and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held later 
this summer. Friends may sign the book from 9 am to 5 pm Tuesday through
 Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

Evelyn F. (Butza) Engel, 94, of Oakley, died Sunday, April 17, 2022, at the Halstead Health and Rehabilitation Facility. 
She was born September 28, 1927, to Mary (Mueth) and Paul Butza in St. 
Louis, MO. Evelyn attended school in St. Louis, MO. She attended Hadley 
Technical High School, in St. Louis, where she specialized in office 
management. Upon receiving her education, Evelyn worked for Prudential 
Insurance and worked there till her marriage to Joseph. 
While her future husband, Joseph Engel, was studying in St. Louis, their
 courtship began. They later married Oct. 25, 1952, in St. Louis, Mo. To
 this union were born three children, Peter, James and Amy. 
Upon moving to Oakley, KS, Evelyn worked for St. Joseph’s Catholic 
Church, Fick Fossil Museum, Stetz’s 5&amp;10, DSNWK, Conoco gas station 
and Always in Bloom. Evelyn served on the St. Joseph’s Catholic School 
Board, Western Plains Arts Association and the Oakley Senior Center. 
Evelyn also volunteered many years with the Annie Oakley 4-H club as a 
community leader teaching crochet, sewing and knitting. 
She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Daughters of 
Isabella, Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary, Oakley Country Club,
 Oakley Senior Center, Oakley Garden Club and past member of the Kansas 
Chiropractor Association for Spouses. Evelyn knew no strangers and 
enjoyed many hours playing pitch and pinochle with family and friends. 
In Halstead she quickly assumed the role of Bingo caller and the 
residents told many stories of how excellent she did. 
Survivors include their three children, Peter (Sue) Engel, of St. Louis,
 MO, James (Bella) Engel, of Houston, TX, and Amy (Dustin) Hudson, of 
Halstead, KS; 12 grandchildren, Andrew (Erin) Kaiser, Blake (Amber) 
Hudson, Brandon Kafarela, Allison Engel, Ashley Engel, Alexandra 
(Jeremy) Walters, Gabrielle Engel, Chase Hudson, Trey Hudson, Carter 
Tuttle, Nat Engel and Cooper Tuttle and four great grandchildren, Oliver
 Kaiser, Amelia Walters, Charlotte Kaiser and Autumn Walters.

Evelyn F. (Butza) Engel

Denis Layne Burk entered into eternal rest on April 14, 2022, at Stephens
 County Hospital, Toccoa, GA. Denis was born with Down Syndrome in 
McCook, Nebraska to Elmer C. and Agnes Orten Burk, April 1, 1962. He 
grew up on a farm outside McDonald, Kansas and was the youngest with two
 brothers and two sisters. His family was instrumental in helping him 
to become an independent and productive citizen with special needs. 
Denis attended Beamgard Learning Center, which his parents helped 
establish, and graduated in 1983. He then received supportive services 
from DSNWK-Prairie Developmental Center in Atwood, Kansas and was able 
to live independently and work at several jobs including the recycling 
center. Denis was known for his love of people and always being happy. 
After the death of his mother, Denis moved to Lavonia, GA to reside with
 his sister, Nancy Williamson, in 2011. He later resided with a 
wonderful host family, Daniel and Annetta Mayfield in Toccoa, GA and 
attended Avita Community Services. His host father was a coach at 
Stephens County High School and a perfect fit for Denis’ love for 
sports. Denis was the water boy for the high school basketball team and
 became known for his cheering the team and giving speeches after the 
games for both wins and losses. 
Denis was an active member of St. John Nepomucene and Sacred Heart 
Catholic Churches while living in Kansas and St. Mary Catholic Church in
 Toccoa, GA. He loved serving as an Altar Boy and being a member of the 
Knights of Columbus. Denis is survived by his two brothers Elmer (Rita 
Sramek) Burk of Tucson, AZ ; and Robert (Jean Mazza) Burk of San Rafael,
 CA; two sisters: Nancy Williamson of Lavonia, GA, and Cheryln (Douglas)
 Smith of Othello, WA. and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Denis Layne Burk

Ann R. Phillips, 73, passed away April 16, 2022, at Hospice House, 
Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp; She was born January 24, 1949, in Great Bend, KS, to 
Virgil and Peggy (Milloway) Wilhelm.

Ann was a 1967 graduate of Otis-Bison High School, Otis, KS and went 
on to graduate from Salt City Business College, Hutchinson, KS. Ann was 
employed by The Center for Counseling and Consultation, Great Bend, KS, 
retiring in 2018 with over 35 years of service. She was a member of 
Journey Mennonite Church, South Hutchinson, KS, Hutchinson Horticulture 
Club, and the Reno County Volunteer Center.

She enjoyed gardening, decorating and spending fun times with friends
 and family, including traveling and weekly card games with special 
friends. She was also skilled in grooming family and neighborhood dogs 
and had Starbucks at the top of her list for drinks that required a 
predefined and orchestrated method of drinking.&nbsp; She loved to attend 
grandchildrens’ activities, shopping and took joy in spending time 
outdoors whether on long walks or leisurely bike rides with Jim and 
their dog Parker.&nbsp; Ann cemented lifelong friendships with her co-workers
 who became like family during her career as a medical transcriptionist.
 After retirement, Ann wore many hats and volunteered at numerous 
places, including the Hutchinson Fox Theatre, Volunteer Center of Reno 
County Friends in Action program as well as the Etc. Shop where she had 
such fun times with her co- workers, the ‘Linen Sisters’. She was a 
lovable lady with a fun sense of humor who took pride in being ‘put 
together’ and having her home and workspace beautifully decorated in the
 holidays of each season. She always brightened any gathering with her 
happy smile and quick wit. Ann truly valued her ‘tight-knit’ 
neighborhood, church, and community that she lived and participated in 
and could be counted on to be a team player. If there was a need, she 
was there to support it. She thoroughly enjoyed her various activities, 
but her most treasured times were when she was with her family, 
especially her grandkids, with whom she got so much enjoyment from and 
showered them with love always. Of all the things that she accomplished 
in her life, her most cherished roles were wife, mother, grandma, 
daughter, sister, and friend.

On July 19, 1969, Ann married the love of her life, James Lee 
Phillips, in Larned, KS and that night watched Neil Armstrong walk on 
the moon. They shared over 52 beautiful years of marriage.

She is survived by: her husband, Jim Phillips of Hutchinson, KS; 
daughter, Dana Darrah and husband Chad of Hutchinson, KS, and daughter, 
Nicole Beatty and husband Chad of Lawrence, KS; grandchildren, Lauren 
and Carter Darrah, and twins, Greyson and Liam Beatty; numerous nieces 
and nephews; and her lovable Westie, Parker.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Peggy Wilhelm, and brother, Duane Wilhelm.

A Celebration of Life is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 
2022, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson, KS with Pastor Judy Miller 
officiating. Burial will follow in the Partridge Cemetery, Partridge, 
KS.&nbsp; Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2022, with
 the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

Ann R. Phillips

Willard F. Renfro Jr., 77, passed away April 17, 2022, at Harry 
Hynes Hospice in Wichita. He was born on January 24, 1945, in Great 
Bend, to Willard F. Renfro Sr. and Juanita Renfro-Berry. He married 
Linda Ann Churchill on March 16, 1963, at Great Bend.&nbsp; She died on 
October 9, 2012.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Willy worked at the Great Bend Cemetery for many years.

Survivors include, his son and daughter in law, Travis and Heidi 
Renfro of Shawnee; and two grandchildren, Samantha Renfro and Blake 
Renfro. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda Ann 
Renfro; a son, Grant Kemper Renfro; and his brother, Danny Renfro.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April
 20, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 
6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, 
April 21, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Joseph Smeragliuolo

Willard F. Renfro Jr.

Catherine Elizabeth (Shields) Neal, 94, passed away on April 17, 2022, in
 Oberlin, KS. She was born on June 16, 1927, to Joseph John and 
Elizabeth Catherine (Schlageck) Schiltz in Angelus, KS.
 Catherine grew up in the Menlo and Hoxie area but graduated from 
Sacred Heart Academy High School in Wichita, KS in 1945. On February 
21, 1949 Catherine married Delbert Shields and to that union they had 8 
children. She enjoyed being a home maker to her children. Catherine 
was a Certified Nurses Aide, Restorative Aide and worked in Respiratory 
Therapy while working at the Decatur County Hospital. After working at 
the hospital, she worked in Physical Therapy at the Good Samaritan 
Society in Oberlin. She would later marry Varlan Neal on April 27, 2001
 in Oberlin at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was an active 
member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was involved in 
the Altar Society and the Ladies Auxiliary. She also loved to sew, 
making all her grandchildren jean quilts, play BINGO and go fishing.
 Catherine is survived by sons: Larry Shields of Lincoln, NE, Lloyd 
(Clarice) Shields of McCook, NE, Leslie (Dee) Shields of Lincoln, NE, 
Lee Shields of McCook, NE, and Alan Shields of Oberlin, KS; daughters: 
Kathleen (Jay) Tschetter of Lincoln, NE and Charlene (Daren) Agan of 
Oberlin, KS; 17 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was 
preceded in death by her parents, husbands: Delbert Shields and Varlan 
Neal; daughter: Teresa Dowling; brother: Harold Schiltz; sisters: 
Loretta Hayden, Mary Ann Seeberger, Florine Pritchard, and infant 
Elizabeth Catherine.
 A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, April 22, 2022, at 
Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oberlin at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be

Catherine Elizabeth Neal

Darrell D. Brensing, age 86, of Manhattan, went home to be with his LORD and Savior on February 9, 2022.
 Darrell was born September 23, 1935, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son 
of Jakie F. and Hulda H. Brensing of Hudson, Kansas. He was a resident 
of Manhattan since 1969.
 Darrell received his Associate of Arts Degree from Hutchinson 
Community College, his Bachelor of Arts degree from Ft. Hays State 
University, his Master of Arts degree from Pittsburg State University, 
and his Ph.D. from Kansas State University. He married Patricia L. 
Ginder of Stafford, Kansas on July 29, 1956. 
 Darrell began his professional career as an Industrial Arts teacher 
with the Hutchinson Public Schools in Hutchinson, Kansas in 1957. He 
later started the first Distributive Education Cooperative program in 
the Hutchinson Public School System and was recognized as the “Father of
 Vocational Education” in Hutchinson as he started numerous vocational 
education programs while employed there. 
 In 1969, Darrell was hired by the USD 383 school system as Director 
of the Manhattan Area Vocational Technical School, now known as 
Manhattan Area Technical College. He served in this capacity for 7 years
 and was credited with establishing numerous innovative programs for the
 school, recognized as one of the outstanding vocational technical 
schools in the nation. In January 1976, he took a break from the 
education field and entered the banking business, joining Walt and Alan 
Bell as Vice President of Citizens State Bank. His love of educating 
students caused him to return to the education field in 1977, when he 
joined the American Institute of Baking as director of education when 
the institute moved from Chicago to Manhattan. He was later promoted to
 Vice President of Education and enjoyed a 20-year career with AIB. In 
this capacity he spoke throughout the world on a variety of topics as 
well as to national and international trade organizations. His ability 
to design and develop innovative programs earned him the distinction of 
being recognized in Who’s Who in Kansas, Who’s Who in the Midwest, 
Outstanding Educators in America and Strathmore’s Who’s Who Registry of 
Business Leaders. 
 Darrell’s greatest satisfaction was assisting young men and women in
 gaining employment and seeing them succeed in a rewarding career. To 
assist them in obtaining gainful employment, he authored the book, 
“Marketing Yourself, Making the Most of What You’ve Got.” He dedicated 
this book to his grandchildren in case he wasn’t around to assist them 
in their job search when they needed his advice and counsel. 
 Darrell was an active member of the Manhattan Rotary Club, serving 
as president of the club in 1982-1983. He was named Rotary 
International Paul Harris Fellow in 1991. One of his greatest pleasures
 in Rotary was to start the Kansas State University Rotaract Club in 
1990 and served as their sponsor or co-sponsor until 2016. 
 Darrell was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church 
where he enjoyed participating with the “Old Geezers” group that 
performed various types of maintenance for the church properties. 
 Darrell also served as president of the Manhattan Country Club, 
president of the United Way of Riley County, was a member of the 
Manhattan Chamber of Commerce where he was named “Volunteer of the Year”
 in 1993, in addition to numerous trade organizations during his 
professional career. 
 Survivors include his wife Pat of Manhattan; son Doug Brensing and 
his wife Roxanne of Lenexa, Kansas; daughter Kelly Brensing White and 
her husband Tim of Manhattan; six grandchildren: Helane (Ben) Downey of 
Mission, KS; Brandon (Tess) Brensing of Olathe, KS; Tricia (Jeremy) 
Holliday of St. George; Jamey White of Manhattan; and Daniel (Laura) 
Bennison of Leawood, KS; eight great-grandchildren: Rylee and Emma 
Downey, Hudson Brensing, Dean, Jeremiah, and Addy Holliday; Brooke and 
Ann Bennison; sister-in-law Bev Vance; and many nieces, nephews and 
cousins. 
 He was preceded in death by his parents Jakie and Hulda Brensing, brother Myron Brensing, and grandchild Tyler White.

Phyllis Moyer Fater, age 77, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2022, at
 the Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas. She was born on March
 6, 1945, in Sellersivllie, Pa, the daughter of Jacob and Ethel Moyer.&nbsp;

Phyllis grew up in Pennsylvania with her sister Carolyn and brother 
Richard. In 1967, she earned a Bachelors of Education from the Kutztown 
State College.

Phyllis raised three children in Bixby, Oklahoma and lived there from
 1973 until 2017 when she moved to Fort Collins, Colorado to be near her
 son, Matthew Fater. In January of 2019, she moved to Scott City, Kansas
 to be near her daughter, Melissa.

She was heavily involved in education, working in early childhood 
education after earning her Masters in Early Childhood Education from 
Northeastern State University in Talequah, Oklahoma. She was started the
 first Parents as Teachers program in the state of Oklahoma. She retired
 from teaching at the Glenpool Elementary school in Glenpool, Oklahoma 
after 32 years.&nbsp;

Phyllis will always be remembered by her friends and family for her 
active life, involvement in her church, the WaWa’s (Women’s association 
of Water Aerobics), and joy she had when she was with all children, 
especially her three grandchildren.

Survivors include, her sons, Stephen &amp; Carrie Fater of Tulsa, 
Oklahoma, and Matthew Fater of Ft. Collins, Colorado, her daughter 
Melissa &amp; Shawn Batterton of Scott City, Kansas, her three grandsons
 Carson Batterton of Scott City, Kansas,Reed Batterton of Scott City, 
Kansas, Zachary Fater of Tulsa, Oklahoma, one sister, Carolyn Schneider 
of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and one niece, Christy Schneider of 
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Moyer.

Donald K. Boese, 88, died April 16, 2022, at Country Place Senior 
Living, Hoisington. He was born May 10, 1933, in La Crosse, Kansas, the 
son of Peter and Elsa (Ebert) Boese. Don graduated from Alexander High 
School, Alexander, Kansas. He then served in the United States Army as a
 Private First Class in Korea from 1955 to 1957.&nbsp;

On April 4, 1954, he married Janet K. Wilson in Garden City, Kansas. 
They moved to Hoisington in 1955. Upon his return from Korea, he 
accepted a position as a maintenance engineer for Clara Barton Hospital,
 and worked there for 32 years, retiring in 1995.

Don was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the V.F.W. and
 the American Legion. He was a charter member of the Hoisington 
Historical Society and a founding and lifetime member of the Clara 
Barton Hospital Foundation. Don enjoyed and was an accomplished 
woodworker.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years; Janet Boese of the home; a 
daughter, Barbara Buchanan (Andy) of Jackson, Georgia; and a son, Brad 
Boese of Hoisington; five granddaughters, Kristin, Audrey, Samantha, 
Amanda and Elizabeth; and six great grandchildren, Gage, Ella, Makenna, 
C.J., James, and Olivia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law, Jayne Boese, and two sisters, Ileen Hanhardt and LaVern Huddleston.

Family will greet friends at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 22, 2022, at 
the funeral home and a graveside service will follow at Hoisington 
Cemetery, with Pastor Chris Lehew presiding. Friends may sign the book 
today and until service on Friday at the funeral home. There will be no 
viewing as cremation has taken place.

Donald K. Boese

Arlene Bird, 87, of Quinter, Kansas went to her heavenly home to join Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on Friday, April 15, 2022. Arlene was born on October 9,&nbsp;1934,&nbsp;at home on a farm north of Quinter, Kansas, to Samuel and Gladys Brown Coburn.&nbsp;

She grew up with two brothers, David and Sammie, and had two brothers, Gerald and Edward, who both died in infancy. She had a sister-in-law, Glenva, who was a sister in heart.

Arlene accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age&nbsp;at her mother's knee. She couldn't remember a time when she didn't pray as her mother taught her while she cuddled her. Arlene was baptized at the age of 12 and always felt God's hand on her life, leading her to help others&nbsp;and to&nbsp;pour out her heart, emotions, and gifts for others. In one of her journals&nbsp;from&nbsp;May&nbsp;1987, she wrote "The lilacs smell so sweet! They just permeate the air as one walks past. What I want my life to be to all those around me, a sweet fragrance to God." Arlene's life verse is Romans 8:28, "And we know that in all things God works&nbsp;for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

As a child, Arlene was known as being athletic, the first to be chosen for teams. She loved to read. Her favorite gifts were books, of which&nbsp;Black Beauty&nbsp;was especially memorable because it also addressed her love of horses. She told of riding her horse to school in grade school, one occasion resulting in a broken collarbone.&nbsp;

How Arlene loved animals, especially cats, enjoying many house cats and farm cats. Her favorite hideout was the haystack, and she loved jumping in the wheat in the grainery. Her favorite time of year was the fall, probably because that season held her birthday.&nbsp;

Arlene grew up feeling so cherished and was blessed to be raised near her Uncle Walter and Aunt Emma Ulrich and cousins, Gerald and Joyce. She was also very close to her other Coburn aunts and uncles who visited frequently but lived further away.&nbsp;

In high school, Arlene excelled in all her classes and enjoyed being in Kayettes, Pep Club, and&nbsp;the weekly Bible Study in the basement of the high school. Her favorite teachers taught her a love for poetry and history and to be glad she was a girl. She graduated from Quinter High School in 1952.

Arlene's parents gave her permission to marry Glenn Raymond Bird, at the age of 17, before he was to leave for Korea. They were married on a beautiful day, January 30, 1952, at her parents' home surrounded by family and close friends so her bedridden mother could participate. Arlene and Glenn were very blessed to celebrate 70 years of marriage earlier this year. After Glenn returned from the Korean War, they welcomed four children to their loving home: Glenna Rae, Melony, Scott, and Stacey.

Arlene was a farmer’s wife and a Proverbs 31 woman, establishing a welcoming and happy home, andassisting and supporting Glenn with outdoor lawn and field work and farm errands. She was known for her bountiful flower and vegetable gardens, which she shared with others, used in cooking her delicious meals, and preserved by&nbsp;canning and freezing for future needs. She always took hot meals to the harvest fields and prepared plentiful meals every day for family and farmhands. Her children remember coming home from school to homemade bread, pies, cookies, cakes, and hot glazed donuts all over the kitchen counter. A gifted&nbsp;seamstress, she sewed clothing, quilts, blankets, and more for her children, grandchildren, and friends, in addition to providing sewn items for church bazaars, etc.

Arlene loved music, teaching piano lessons to over 55 children and adults, and enjoyed praising God as a church pianist and musician in the Quinter United Methodist Church and His Place. It was a common sight to see grandchildren sitting beside Grammy as she played piano or organ. During Arlene's&nbsp;last days in the&nbsp;hospital, she enjoyed hearing her daughter-in-law Sheryl play her keyboard and her husband, children, and their spouses singing hymns and praise songs.&nbsp;

A student of God's word, Arlene taught Sunday School and Bible School, and led or participated in many church committees, boards, and retreats. She loved the United Methodist Women (UMW) and organizing the prayer chain. She also loved opening their home for Bible studies over decades. As a prayer warrior, she prayed daily with and for her family, friends, prayer buddies, and pastors. When she learned of any prayer request or need, she did not delay but immediately prayed whether on the telephone or street corner.

She was known as a leader in the community, serving as Republican Party chairwoman and hospital endowment foundation board member, among other positions. She worked to obtain contributions to support various non-profit organizations and was so generous with her time and resources.&nbsp;

The Valhalla Club was very special to Arlene as was spending time with her lifelong friends. In their earlier years, Arlene and Glenn enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, and visiting friends. In their later years, they enjoyed meeting with new and old friends at the Quinter Senior Center.&nbsp;

When those in the community prematurely lost their parents, she became their adopted mother. She made many encouraging phone calls and sent letters and cards tirelessly. The needs of others&nbsp;were always a higher priority than her own. Even through many hospital stays and until the end, her concern was always for the comfort and wellness of&nbsp;others. An inspiration to many, Arlene always had a compliment and encouraging word for everyone.&nbsp;

After Arlene's diagnosis of lupus, heart issues and other ailments, she chose to overcome and turn them into a way to encourage others with similar problems.

Arlene deeply loved and treasured time with her family. She was an active supporter of her children and their activities. Her grandchildren talk of wonderful memories of their time with Grammy–sitting on her lap reading books, enjoying cousin time, exploring Horsethief Canyon, looking for rocks and fossils, playing games, reveling in holiday times, participating in crafts and activities, coloring and hiding Easter eggs, savoring their favorite foods, shopping together, and raiding the "candy drawer."

Arlene has excelled in so many roles — as wife, mother,&nbsp;Grammy, great&nbsp;Grammy, daughter, sister, cousin, confidante, encourager, prayer warrior, teacher, student, gardener, seamstress, volunteer, leader, musician, role model, inspirer, encourager, and friend.&nbsp;She has had a full life of loving and living.&nbsp;

The compassion, generosity, patience, and kindness she extended to all she met were a perfect reflection of her loving spirit and commitment to her faith in Jesus Christ. This is best expressed in her testimony: "Through Jesus, all the dimensions of my life are richer and deeper. I am a better woman, wife, mother, grandmother. Yes, better in all dimensions of my life. Jesus walks with me always and adds LIFE to my life, for He lives. Praise God!"

Arlene is survived and will be lovingly remembered by the love of her life and husband of 70 years, Glenn, daughter Glenna Rae (Norm) Alexander of Leesburg, Florida; daughter Melony (Gary) McClure of Assaria, Kansas; son Scott (Sheryl) Bird of Quinter, Kansas; and&nbsp;daughter Stacey (Scott) Wood of Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp;She also leaves 16 adored grandchildren and 23 precious great grandchildren: Avery (Kim), Abigail, Asher, and Theodore Alexander of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; Alden (Sarah), Isaac, Lillian, Benjamin, and Jonah Alexander of Salina, Kansas; Emily (Nathan), Caleb, Micah, and Levi Watson of Port St. Lucie, Florida; Kesa, Lois Kael, Toben, Eleanor, and Thatcher Easter of Andale, Kansas; Kimber (Chris), Madeleine, and Miles Breeden&nbsp; of Wichita, Kansas; Mark (Lili)&nbsp;McClure of Topeka, Kansas; Max McClure of Podebrady,&nbsp;Czech Republic; Marissa (Jacob) Jones of Springfield, Missouri; Michaela Bird of Raleigh, North Carolina; Stephen Bird of Austin, Texas; Matthew Bird of Kansas City, Kansas; Sarah Bird of Kansas City, Kansas; Valerie (Luis), Isabella, Samuel, Aurora Alicea of Benton, Kansas; Angela (Jonathan), Jacey, Jordyn, and Morgan Lee of Wichita, Kansas; Olivia (Erik), and Blakely Harbutz of Wichita, Kansas; and Aimee (Taylor) Carter of Olathe, Kansas.&nbsp;

The celebration of life will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, April 23, at the Quinter United Methodist&nbsp;Church, 218 W 4th St. Burial will follow at Baker Township Cemetery, Quinter, Kansas.&nbsp;

Visitation will be 5-7 PM on Friday, April 22, at Schmitt Funeral Home, 901 S. Main St., Quinter, Kansas.

Glenn David&nbsp;Staab, 66, Hays, died Saturday, April 16, 2022, at Via Christi Village.

He was born May 18, 1955, in Hays,&nbsp;the son of&nbsp;Roger and Verla (Kreutzer) Staab and was the first of five children.&nbsp;&nbsp;He graduated from Hays High School&nbsp;in the&nbsp;class of 1973.&nbsp;&nbsp;Glenn married Dottie Marie Stephens on July 4, 1975, and they brought four children into the world: Justin David (1980,&nbsp;deceased), Craig Anthony (1982), Kevin Richard (1984), and Michelle Renee (1985).

Glenn was an active member in many political, social, community, and volunteer organizations.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a man who cared deeply about his community, and always had a willingness to go out of his way to help others.&nbsp;&nbsp;Many met Glenn through his occupations in insurance and real estate, or his active involvement in state and local politics, but those were typically just beginning chapters to what would become lifelong friendships.&nbsp;&nbsp;Friends were a close second to what he loved most - his family.&nbsp;&nbsp;Anyone who knew Glenn was likely to know about his brothers and sister, nieces and nephews, kids, grandchildren, and of course, his soulmate Dottie.&nbsp;&nbsp;These were treasures in life he valued more than anything.&nbsp;&nbsp;While the passing of Glenn is painful because of the many lives he positively touched and impacted, he would not want his death to be mourned, but rather his life to be celebrated.&nbsp;&nbsp;Pass along a story, share an old joke, or recollect a memory you have of Glenn that made your life better.

Muriel Ann Miars, 89, of Oakley, KS, passed away at Logan County Senior Living, on April 1, 2022. 
She was born to Dwight and Sarah Gilbert in Hanks, North Dakota on 
January 20, 1933. She was the youngest of 11 children. She was 
previously married to Kenneth Edwards of Kalispell, MT and Charles Miars
 (dec. 1978) and found her life partner in Rex Asbridge Sr. (dec. 2005).
 
She and her 4 children spent many years traveling around Idaho, Montana,
 Oregon, and Colorado before moving to Kansas and eventually settling in
 Oakley in 1976. 
Muriel loved listening to country music and square dancing, she actually
 met her husband Charles while out square dancing and they fell in love 
and got married. She also enjoyed embroidery and camping. However, her 
favorite thing was spending time with her family and friends, especially
 her myriad of grandchildren. Her house was always full of people, and 
you could always count on finding some yummy treat, as she was forever 
cooking. She enjoyed feeding people and the more the better. 
Muriel was preceded in death by both her parents; 7 siblings; her 
husband Charles Miars; life partner Rex Asbridge, Sr. and her daughter 
Marjorie Ann. 
She is survived by her 4 children, Rose (Dale) Wilcox, Dale (Pam) 
Edwards, Mary (Rex, Jr.) Asbridge, and Raymond Edwards; 6 stepchildren,

Darlene Ann Brungardt Holzmeister was born September 29, 1931, at St. Joseph Hospital in Hays, Kansas. She passed from this life on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at Hays Medical Center. Darlene was the youngest of nine children born to John and Magdalena (Mermis) Brungardt, who lived in rural Russell County, Kansas. She was the only one of the children to be born in a hospital. At age six, Darlene and her family left the farm and moved to Hays. She graduated from Hays High School and then graduated from beauty college in Wichita, Kansas. While in Wichita, Darlene also met her husband, Edwin Holzmeister. They were married in Hays on August 27, 1951. The couple were blessed with five sons and one daughter. Darlene was a talented artist. She painted with both acrylics and oils. Darlene and her brother, Lawrence, were once honored to display some of their work at Farmers State Bank in Hays. Darlene also loved to knit, sew, crochet and quilt. Darlene always had two or three “projects” going at any one time. Darlene was also a fabulous cook. Due to her mother’s health, Darlene started cooking for the family as a rather young girl, and she kept getting better and better. There was nothing she could not make, and she could feed a crowd. Just ask her kids and grandkids, and all of their friends. Darlene was a homemaker, ran a daycare, and operated Holzmeister Shoe Repair (1974-1994) and Holzmeister Liquor Store (1978-1998) alongside her husband, Edwin. Darlene and Ed retired when they sold the liquor store. Darlene and Ed were heavily involved for years with the American Legion and Auxiliary. Darlene served as the Sixth District President of Kansas Legion Auxiliary from 1978-1979. During that year, Darlene and the Sixth District Commander of the Legion, Melroy Kopsa of Cuba, Kansas, hosted their District Homecoming in Hays. Ed was able to book a big 18-piece band from Czechoslovakia from behind the Iron Curtain for the homecoming dance. The dance sold out and everyone had a fantastic time. It was always a treasured memory and a great example of how Darlene and Ed always worked and had fun together. Darlene and Ed loved to travel and dance. They loved to camp at Wilson Lake with their children and friends. In 1987, Darlene and Ed purchased a cabin at Cedar Bluff Lake where they spent countless hours and regularly entertained family and friends. So many great memories! Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Lioba Weigel and Celeste Herman; and brothers James Brungardt, Leo Brungardt, George Brungardt, Lawrence Brungardt, Tom Brungardt, and Donald Brungardt. Darlene is survived by her husband, Edwin of Hays; daughter, Susan &nbsp;(Shirley Grecian) Holzmeister of Hays; and sons, Ivan (Charlene) Holzmeister of Hays, Kevin (Chris) Holzmeister Hays, Tom (Julie) Holzmeister of &nbsp;Lawrenceville, Ga, Greg (Miriam) Holzmeister of Gypsum, KS, and Eric Holzmeister of &nbsp;Hays; grandchildren, Adele Runge, Brock Holzmeister, Greyson Holzmeister, Miranda Stein, Andrea Holzmeister, Brieanna Holzmeister, Brandon Holzmeister, Shannon Brandenburg, Madison Holzmeister, Dylan Holzmeister, Austin Holzmeister, Nathan Holzmeister, Rachel Byarlay, and Victoria Jones; five great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and her beloved pets Lilly and Tinker. Henry Thomas Shirk, age 51, of Hays, Kansas passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Hays Medical Center. He was born May 2, 1970, in WaKeeney, Kansas, to Thomas Henry and Connie (Augustine) Shirk. Henry graduated from Hays High School. In his late teens Henry enlisted in the military where he was diagnosed with the early symptoms of Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy. Henry was able to work in fast food for some time before his condition prevented him from working. Henry was a Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed watching TV and movies. He was extremely introverted but was known to never forget to send a birthday card to his family members including nieces and nephews. Henry is survived by his mother and stepfather, Connie and Terry Jones of Woodward, Oklahoma, three brothers, Robert Shirk and wife Misty of Springfield, Missouri, Douglas Shirk and John Shirk both of Woodward; and a sister, Brenda McCray of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  </figure>Henry Thomas Shirk, age 51, of Hays, Kansas passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Hays Medical Center. He was born May 2, 1970, in WaKeeney, Kansas, to Thomas Henry and Connie (Augustine) Shirk. Henry graduated from Hays High School. In his late teens Henry enlisted in the military where he was diagnosed with the early symptoms of Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy. Henry was able to work in fast food for some time before his condition prevented him from working. Henry was a Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed watching TV and movies. He was extremely introverted but was known to never forget to send a birthday card to his family members including nieces and nephews. Henry is survived by his mother and stepfather, Connie and Terry Jones of Woodward, Oklahoma, three brothers, Robert Shirk and wife Misty of Springfield, Missouri, Douglas Shirk and John Shirk both of Woodward; and a sister, Brenda McCray of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Henry Shirk. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday April 20, 2022, with Fr. Dana Clark officiating at Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th,&nbsp;Ellis, KS 67637. Inurnment will follow in Mt. Maggi Watson’s reign as Lund Family Matriarch and Kansas’ Oldest Bowler 
came to an end on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at her home in Wichita, 
Kansas, where she lived independently until her last breath at 102. 
 Margaret "Maggi" Lund Watson was born July 23, 1919, in Ensign, 
Kansas to Clarence Jeffrey (CJ) and Ruth Crockett Lund. She was welcomed
 by her older brother, John and sister, Bernice and they were raised on 
the family wheat farm. She attended a one room schoolhouse and was 
valedictorian of her high school class. 
 She graduated from Fort Hays Kansas State College and pledged a 
sorority that merged with Delta Zeta and lived the sisterhood for almost
 80 years. Although a social sorority, the primary DZ philanthropy is 
focused on the hearing impaired. At the time of her death, she was the 
oldest Delta Zeta from Fort Hays, as well as the nation. At some point 
in her young adult life, she and her sister, Bernice, went to Chicago 
for Fashion Design School. They had a great time during their time in 
the big city, but Kansas called them back home.
 She was a woman ahead of her time and was stationed in the Army in 
San Antonio. She dedicated herself to her Occupational Therapist career
 at the Veterans Hospital and delayed marriage until the age of 40. She
 married Norman Watson on Valentine’s Day 1960 and together they shared 
fifty-four years of traveling the world and explored most of the United 
States. 
 She actively belonged to Bridge Club, Bowling League, First 
Methodist Church and Delta Zeta until her death, so she was obviously 
spry, lively, mentally alert and quite active her entire 102 years. At 
her 100th birthday celebration when asked words of advice for living a 
long life, she said, “Don’t worry! It’s a waste of time. Keep moving 
and you can only live in the moment you’re in."
 She is survived by her loved nephews and nieces, Ken and Diane 
Francis, Kristi and Mike O’Dell, John Richard and Nancy Lund, Jennifer 
Lund and Bryan Anderson, Eric Lund and Julia Alexander as well as 
nephew, Jeff Lund’s wife, Diane and all of their families. She is 
preceded in death by her parents, CJ and Ruth Lund; husband, Norman; 
brother, John (Esther) Lund; sister Bernice (Gene) Francis; and nephew, 
Jeff Lund. 
 The memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at 
11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church, 330 N. Broadway,

Wilma J. Witterstaetter, 87, died April 14, 2022, at Ranchwood 
Nursing Center, Yukon, Oklahoma.&nbsp; She was born June 19, 1934, in 
Ashdown, Arkansas, the daughter of Ray and Anne (Munson) Joyce.&nbsp;

On June 5, 1951, she married Harry S. Witterstaetter III, in Texarkana, Texas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on May 27, 2011.

Survivors include: a daughter, Teresa Hutter of Mustang, Oklahoma; 
two grandchildren, Trina Hutter (Jack Lear) of Grand Prairie, Texas, and
 Troy Hutter (Elizabeth) of Frisco, Texas; and three great grandsons, 
Lance Hutter, Chance (Jordan) Hutter and Zachary Hutter.

A Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at 
Hoisington City Cemetery, with Pastor Chris Lehew and Pastor Amy Foster 
presiding.
