Faced with the possibility of another election cycle, Elizabeth "Betty" Jean (Younger) Herl age 91, formerly of Ellis, Kansas, chose to pass into the Eternal Love of God Sunday, August 28, 2022. And Here Comes Betty! Betty was born April 17, 1931, to Helen and Jerome Younger, who were German immigrants from the Volga River region of Russia. Betty attended Ellis High School and soon married the ridiculously handsome Eugene Adair Herl in 1948 after he returned from service during WWII. With gorgeous black hair and brown eyes, this head-turning war veteran was no match for Betty’s heart. Betty was no slouch either– she was a “real looker.” She was always dressed to the nines and wouldn’t be caught dead wearing a pair of sweatpants while shopping at Walmartzzz (how she forever and appropriately pronounced it). Saw the Beauty in Everything It was common to be with Betty and watch her good nature, kindness and infectious laugh rub off on everyone. She would often tell cashiers what beautiful hair they have and continue with questions as to how they fixed it. The hospice nurses who took care of Betty toward the end of her life faced a potential territory change where they could lose Betty and they fought like hell to keep her as their patient. Her pulmonologist had a secret crush on her, and she once told her eye doctor that she had a great rack. It was the easiest thing to love and laugh with Betty. Never Minced Words with Her Family On the other hand, Betty was world renowned for telling her family members like it is. You could be one bad haircut away from getting a full critique. She was a master of telling you your outfit wasn’t up to snuff and yet you were grateful for her candor. “I can and will do better” was the mantra each family member would walk away with. And even though it sounds like she may have been hard on her family, she exercised the same kind of assessment of herself. She held those around her and herself to the highest standard and made us all better for it. Is that Roast or Beef Jerky? Betty was a master chef in the kitchen. Her cucumber salad, cottage cheese salad, tuna burgers, galewskis, dumplings &amp; green beans, canned pickles and homemade pies were to die for.&nbsp; However, she had one weakness, and that was over cooking a roast. If left unattended because of farm wife duties, that piece of meat became hard to distinguish between shoe leather or beef jerky, but we ate it anyways because us kids did not know any different and she never let us down otherwise. Betty Sure Knew Her Wrestling Moves Any spectator of a sporting event with a Herl kid involved was worth the price of admission just to watch Betty. When her son Mitchell was wrestling for the state title, she channeled her extra energy on Mitchell’s opponent. She unknowingly grabbed her nearby daughter Michelle and placed her into a full nelson on the spot while Mitchell simultaneously pinned his opponent. It was epic! It was entertaining! It was full-on Betty! Creative Extraordinaire Betty was a master seamstress. She made all her daughter’s clothes and made much of her own. She had exquisite taste and the juxtaposition of Betty in a Vogue outfit against the backdrop of the Western Kansas plains is unforgettable. Betty was skilled at drawing and painting but abandoned the pursuit of a college degree in Art after the loss of her children Stephen (5 years) and Becky (3 years). She shifted her energy into raising her family and taught herself how to crochet and later quilting, which led to the creation of hundreds of items. Voracious Reader and News Junkie Betty was obsessed with reading everything she could get her hands on. She would read books authored by Ann Coulter who is a right-wing conservative media pundit. On the other extreme, she would read Michael Moore who is an author and left-wing activist. If asked why she would read such a wide spectrum, she would always say, “You need to understand each side to have a healthy, intelligent debate.” Betty loved the invention of the 24-hour cable news cycle. Whaat! Whaat! Whaat! Betty started losing her hearing in her mid-50s. We thought she was purposely ignoring us but unfortunately some bad Younger hearing genes, as well as the exposure to Big Band music and loud farming equipment did those ear drums in. To be around mom, would mean exposing your own ear drums to crushingly loud decibels of sound. None of us cared though, because we all knew that losing your hearing can be one of the most isolating things to happen. She loved good conversation and all genres of music, so this loss was real. However, she always kept the most positive attitude and was optimistic about each and every day. One of Betty’s most famous lines was, “Don’t Always Take Yourself So Seriously.” To say Betty will be sorely missed is an understatement. Betty is pre-deceased by her husband Eugene Adair Herl. She is survived by children Jay Herl and wife Kristy of Shawnee Kansas; Jacqueline Lindstrom and husband John of Maplewood, New Jersey; Mitch Herl and wife Linda of South Jordan, Utah; Michelle Herl of Leawood, Kansas; E.G. Herl and wife Stephanie of Overland Park, Kansas. She has 2 deceased children Stephen and Rebecca Herl. Betty is also survived by 12 grandchildren who were the center of her world: Katy Herl Cassaw, Becky Herl, Nick Herl, Carly Rhodes, Austin Herl, Jena Lindstrom, John Luke Lindstrom, Jake Herl, Ty Herl, Jackson Bunte, Henry Bunte, Maxwell Bunte; and five great grandchildren under the age of 12; Mikhail, Paisley, Bailey, Piper and Reidun born the following day of Betty’s death! Richard A. Cramer, age 83 years, of Great Bend, Kansas, and formerly of Hill City, Kansas, passed away on Friday morning, August 26, 2022, at the University of Kansas Health Systems – Great Bend Campus.&nbsp; 

Richard was born on February 22, 1939, at Omaha, Nebraska, to Donald T. and Elinor A. (Sprieck) Cramer.&nbsp; He was united in marriage to Mary L. Kreuzburg on June 17, 1962, at Hiawatha, Kansas.&nbsp; Richard was a U.S. Army veteran, and worked as City Manager for the city of Hiawatha for two years and then as City Manager for the city of Hill City for 14 years.&nbsp; He was also a self-employed auctioneer, and did many benefit auctions over the years. Richard had served as Chairman of the Little Britches Rodeo and also the Jayhawker Roundup Rodeo in Hill City for many years.&nbsp; He was a 60-year member of Hiawatha Masonic Lodge #35 A.F. &amp; A.M. at Hiawatha and a member of the First Christian Church at Great Bend.

Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Cramer of Great Bend, Kansas; two sons:&nbsp; Troy (&amp; Dawn) Cramer of Salina, Kansas and Travis L. (&amp; Janae) Cramer of Bennington, Kansas; one daughter, Tiffany (&amp; Taylor) Jones of Manhattan, Kansas; seven grandchildren:&nbsp; Taylor, Jacob, and Trevor Cramer, McKenzie and Malory Cramer, Levi and Hunter Jones.&nbsp; Richard was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David Cramer.

Cremation has been chosen.&nbsp; A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at the First Christian Church in Great Bend with Pastor Joshua Leu officiating.&nbsp;

Roger Anschutz, age 79, of Hays, 
Kansas, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2022, in Hays. He was born 
January 7, 1943, in Russell, Kansas, to Henry Anschutz and Edna (Wittman) 
Anschutz. During the Bolsheviks Revolution, Roger’s dad, Henry, traveled 
with family from Russia through Poland to Germany. They departed for 
America from Frankfurt, Germany, on board the Sierra Ventana. They arrived
 at Ellis Island on August 15, 1924. Henry talked about working and 
living in Chicago for a period and eventually the family mostly settled 
in the Dorrance, Bunker Hill, Wilson area. He married Cynthia Werth on 
August 20, 1971, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays.

He attended Navy Hospital CORSP School 
and Hospital Medical Service School, stationed on a hospital Navy ship 
in Sigonella Sicily during the Vietnam War.

He attended Fort Hays State University 
and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. He worked for many
 years at Hadley Regional Medical Center, now Hays Medical Center in 
various positions including Hospital OR Nursing Scrub Tech, Circulating 
Nurse, OR Supervisor and later Supervisor of Outpatient Surgical 
Services.&nbsp;

Roger enjoyed sports, hunting, fishing, golfing, bird watching, but mostly spending time with his children and grandchildren.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia, 
daughters; Sarah Nicks (Tim), Melissa Donaldson (Brent), son, Creighton 
Anschutz, Grandchildren; Tanner Nicks (Haley), Cole Nicks, Meyer 
Donaldson, Averine Donaldson; Great Grandchildren; Layden and Reign 
Nicks, and a brother, Ronald Anschutz (Pam). He was preceded in death by
 his parents.

Roger Anschutz

Jeannine Marie Ross (Jean) passed away August 24, 2022, at Hays Medical Center at the age of 86. She was born November 16, 1935, in Hays, Kansas, to Walter C. and Philomene Frances (Fisher) Ross.

Jean entered the convent when she was 15 years old and was with the Sisters of Saint Agnes for 23 years. During this time, she served as an educator and administrator at several private schools located in the states of Wisconsin and Indiana. After 23 years, she returned to Hays to care for her aging parents.

In Hays, she also continued to serve as an educator: teaching in Schoenchen, KS; Principal at Washington Elementary School, and for 18 years she served in the position of Assistant Superintendent of Finance with USD 489.

Jean earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Marian College in Fond De Lac, Wisconsin; her Master’s Degree in Education and her Master’s Degree in Speech were earned at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and her Doctor of Education (EdD) in Administration was earned from Fort Hays State University, Hays, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;

For 10 years, beginning in 2000, Jean served in the role as President of Thomas More Prep (TMP)-Marian.&nbsp; The Jean Ross Society was created to honor spiritual and dedication to the success of Catholic schools in Hays, KS. She often referred to TMP as “God’s school.” Jean also received the Point of Light award, which is the highest recognition given to individuals who have given time, talent, and resources to the school.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jean is survived by sister, Marilyn Wasinger, Wichita, KS; sister-in-law, Debbie Ross, Hays, KS; brothers-in-law, Ken Pfeifer, Hays, KS, Dan Needy, Tucson, AZ,&nbsp;and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Philomene (Fisher) Ross; sisters, Shirley Schartz, Patricia Needy, Betty Pfeifer, and brother Walter (Chuck) Ross, Jr.

&nbsp;Jean’s family will receive guests from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 215 W. 13th&nbsp;Street, Hays, KS on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. A rosary is scheduled for 6:30pm, followed by a Parish Vigil Service at 7:00pm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00am, Thursday, September 1, 2022, at St Joseph Church, Father Mike Scully will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, KS.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials to TMP-Marian or for masses.

Verla Joanne (Lindsley) Snowbarger, age 85, of Big Bow, Kansas, died 
August 28, 2022, at Western Prairie Senior Living Community in Ulysses, 
Kansas. She was born on May 13, 1937, in Stanton County, Kansas, the 
daughter of Dorel P. and Evelyn M. (Herrick) Lindsley. 
Joanne grew up in Stanton County and graduated from High School there. 
She then attended Bethany Nazarene College, (now Southern Nazarene 
University), and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home 
Economics. After college she taught Home Economics for two years in 
Agra, Kansas. She married Ronald Snowbarger on September 16, 1961. They
 lived in El Paso, Texas, for a year as Ron finished his military 
service before returning to Stanton County. She taught second grade for
 one year at Big Bow Elementary School before she stopped teaching to 
start a family. She had a great love for her children and made it a 
priority to be at most all the activities that they were involved in. 
She also had a great love for all of her grandchildren and cherished 
each one dearly. 
Joanne was passionate about her gardening and especially enjoyed tending
 her flowerbeds that contained over 500 different varieties of Iris. She
 was a member of the Garden City Iris Club. She also loved doing 
crossword puzzles, collecting clowns and carousel horses. She especially
 loved her cats which brought her great joy. 
She was a member of Bethel Church of the Nazarene where she served in 
many different positions including teaching the young married Sunday 
school class and was on the mission’s council. Joanne loved reading 
Christian literature. Often times she would share some of her favorite 
poetry, prose, and other writings as part of the worship services. 
For the last ten years she struggled greatly against the dementia that 
tried to rob her of her spirit. But Joanne fought valiantly all the way 
to the end and was known for her joy, laughter, and care that she 
expressed to everyone as she would say, “I love you – I love you – I 
love you!” 
Survivors include her husband, Ronald of their home; children, Tanya 
Frees of Omro, Wisconsin, Theron Snowbarger and wife Dina, of St. Louis,
 Missouri, Merwyn Snowbarger of Johnson; and Amber Harrell and husband 
Randall of Cedar Park, Texas; brothers, David Lindsley of Tucson, 
Arizona and Dale Lindsley and wife Linda of Hutchinson, Kansas; six 
grandchildren, Christopher Frees, Alyssa Meier and husband Bret, Ashley 
Weaver and husband Brendon, Chance Harrell and wife Staci, Vanessa

great-grandchildren, Malakhi and Eliyah Weaver.

Charles Tom “Cactus” Hirst, 88, of Russell, died August 28, 2022, at 
Good Samaritan Society, Hutchinson. He was born July 28, 1934, in 
Hutchinson, to Bert and Juanita (Buckhannan) Hirst.

Tom graduated from Partridge High School in 1952. He worked in the 
telephone industry most of his life: 31 years as a technician for 
Western Electric, which later became Southwestern Bell, and 15 years as a
 sub-contractor. Tom loved to head to the woods for shooting rifles, 
fishing, and camping. He enjoyed using his ham and CB radios and 
watching NASCAR races. In 1972, Tom began attending AA and did so 
faithfully for nearly 50 years, allowing him to form many great 
friendships.

On October 22, 1969, he married Joan Ruth Davis. They shared 42 years before her passing on February 15, 2015.

Tom is survived by: sons, Theodore “Ted” Hirst, Hays, William “Bill” 
Hirst, Hutchinson, Ronald “Ron” Hirst (Tracy), Ark City; step-daughter, 
Marsha Harrington, Seattle, Washington; ten grandchildren; and four 
great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by: his parents, Bert and Nita Hirst; wife, Joan Hirst; and brothers, Bill, Eugene, and James Hirst.

Memorial service will be 10:30 am Saturday, September 3, 2022, at 
Elliott Mortuary. A private burial will take place in Partridge 
Cemetery. Friends may sign the book from 9 am to 5 pm Thursday and 
Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

Judith Kathlene “Judy” Windholz, 78, of Salina, Kan., passed away 
Monday, August 29, 2022. She was born June 15, 1944, in Topeka, Kan., to
 Raymond and Martina (Boos) Walters. She married Ernest Windholz on June
 16, 1962, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Hays, Kan.

Judy worked at General Battery/Exide, the Salina Journal, and 
Dillons. She enjoyed her weekly bingo games, volunteering at the Food 
Bank, going to Bogey’s and Sonic, visiting the library several times a 
week, and going to the casino. Judy loved camping, boating, and fishing,
 and spending time with her grandkids.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ernest, of the home; 
sons, Steven (Melissa), of Salina, and Mark (Amy), of Baytown, TX; 
sister, Linda Nolan (Tom), of Aurora, Colo.; grandchildren, Rachael, 
Brandon, Josh, Jake, Sheldon, Jerod, and Cindy; and great-grandchildren,
 Colton, Blake, Bryan, Isabella, Jaxon, Bentley, Jazmine, Charlie, Ivy, 
and Violet.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and son, Brian Windholz.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, September 2, 2022, at Ryan 
Mortuary, Salina, with a vigil service at 5:30. Mass of Christian burial

Janice Wiersma, age 72, Hill City, Kansas, loving mother, and the 
world’s best Nani, passed away peacefully Monday, August 22, 2022, at 
the Graham County Hospital, after being surrounded by her loving family 
over the weekend. She was born February 26, 1950, to Roy and Stella 
Poffenberger, in Miles City, Montana.
 Janice enjoyed cooking and baking. Her family always looked forward 
to meals at her house! Everyone always knew there was going to be more 
food than they could ever eat and that it was all going to be delicious.
 She also enjoyed reading, spending time with her family, and was very 
passionate about her flowers. She could hardly wait for spring to roll 
around each year so she could decorate her yard with stunning 
flowerpots. 
 When Janice wasn’t tending her beloved flowers, she filled her home 
with warmth and kindness. Janice opened a daycare in her home. For 
several years she treasured and spoiled umpteen small children. But 
Janice took the most pleasure in being “Nani”. It was one of the most 
important parts of Janice’s life, a role that gave her much pride and 
joy. 
 Janice is survived by three biological children: Michael (Susie) 
Ramey of Las Vegas, Nevada, Troy (Bridgette) Ramey of Grinnell, and 
Angie (Brett) Garrison of Hill City; three stepchildren: Darin Wiersma 
of Arizona, Anita Wiersma of Kansas City and Jeania (Tom) Eckley of 
Wichita; 18 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph 
Poffenberger; a sister, Jean Schaak; and several nieces and nephews. 
 Family members that paved the way for Janice include her husband,

 Joan Rusliff. 
 Although Janice was tiny and frail, she gave us all hope and

On March 7, 1957, Jack married Sharolyn “Shari” Rowe in Winfield, Kan. 
She passed on April 14, 2004.

Coming to Great Bend in 1969, Jack worked in the oilfield and truck 
driving for over 40 years for Slawson Drilling and Jack B. Kelley, prior
 to his retirement. The rig hands always talked about the strength of 
his hands. Jack got great satisfaction playing practical jokes on 
everyone. “Grandpa Jack” enjoyed spending time with his grandson and 
great-grandchildren, watching them play sports.

Survivors include a daughter: Vicki Richardson of Great Bend, Kan.; a
 daughter-in-law, Carla Richardson, of Woodward, Okla.; a grandson, Josh
 (Lexi) Richardson, of Edmond, Okla.; three sisters: Margaret, Betty and
 Joan.; two step grandsons, Brandon and Kevin Williams; a step 
granddaughter, PeggySue Brown; and several great-grandchildren. He was 
preceded in death by his wife, Shari Richardson; a son, David 
Richardson; three brothers; and two sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 2, 
2022, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, with Pastor Larry Schumacher 
presiding. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to United 
Way of Central Kansas’ Laundry Love Project, in care of Bryant Funeral 
Home.

Gregory Alan Irving, 62, passed away August 27, 2022, at Hospice 
House in Hutchinson. He was born on August 12, 1960, at Philadelphia, 
Penn. to Henry &amp; Gertrude (Sullivan) Irving.

A longtime resident of Great Bend, Gregory was an over the road truck
 driver. He enjoyed building computers, working on cars and the Kansas 
City Chiefs. He loved family get-togethers, especially the 4th of July.

Survivors include, his children, Matthew Irving, Richard Irving and 
Alisha Kitterman all of Great Bend and Cory Kitterman of Larned; three 
sisters, Gloria Orebaugh of Ellinwood, Sandra Byington of Great Bend and
 Carol Henson of Hutchinson; a step brother, Detlef Snyder of Iowa; and 
step sister Barbara Stoffel of Iowa; and a grandson, Richard Irving. He 
was preceded in death by his parents and a step sister, Monica Smith.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Graveside 
service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 2, 2022, at the 
Hoisington Cemetery with Pastor Ken Gray presiding.

Jackson "Mighty Mouse" Wade Noveroske blessed this earth with his presence at 5:56&nbsp; a.m. on February 2, 2007, completing his family and joining his parents, William and Hedy Noveroske, big sister Kelsey Salmon (Gabe), little big sister Karrah Bailey and big brother John Noveroske. Jackson’s passion for fishing began at a very early age with his patience developing sometime later. His Dad, brother, Grandpa Corby, Uncles Johnny and Jesse, cousins Hayden and Lakin and his dog “Charlie Wiggles” were his favorite fishing buddies. Before the sun rose and into all hours of the night, he would fish in the cove behind his house or the rock ledge behind his grandparent’s house. Jackson didn’t need to be taught how to fish. He would try everything in his unique and unorthodox bag of tricks to catch a catfish, bass, crappie, wiper, or whatever managed to find its way on the end of his line saying, “I told you so” whenever anyone questioned his fishing ways. His favorite to catch and reel in was a big ole blue cat. When he wasn’t fishing, the Tree of Life behind Grandpa and Grandma’s house is where you would find him. Summer to Jackson meant "Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset repeat”! Jackson loved to do anything and everything outdoors. You would find him climbing trees out in the woods or right next to the house, shooting his BB gun, bow or makeshift rigged homemade weapons. Jackson loved sitting in the woods and watching the birds, wildlife, and just being out in nature. He developed a passion for hunting squirrel, turkey and deer. He got his first buck and turkey this past year and boy was he so very proud! ‘Hunting, fishing and loving every day” pretty much summed up what Jackson was about. He was passionate and kind and tried to save injured animals that made their way into his back yard. It didn’t matter whether it was a bird, squirrel, dog or cat; he wanted to help it heal. He loved feeding the birds in his backyard, his fish in the family pond or just sitting out on the deck listening to the locusts, crickets, and watching the lightning bugs. He was a gentle, kind and caring soul that appreciated everything in God’s creation. You could always find Jackson barefoot. His family could never figure out how a splinter could get pass his calloused feet from time to time, because he refused to wear shoes and socks. Running a 3k road race for his Milford Elementary school while barefoot was no big deal to him along with finishing first. His elementary teachers would reward him with not having to wear his shoes in class instead of a free pencil or piece of candy for those special “caught ya” moments. Jackson began his love for soccer watching his Dad coach his older siblings. He learned and developed his skills and knowledge for the game with the Milford Parks and Recreational team. Jackson moved on to travel league at the age of 8yrs playing on the Flint Hills Stingrays team. He continued to play on numerous club teams until 2021 when he played his final soccer game for the Danger FC Soccer Club. It was during his Stingray playing days that Jackson got his nickname “Mouse." During one of his many tournament games there were multiple “Jackson’s” out on the field. His Mom decided that he needed a nickname so he could tell when she and family were cheering him on. And because he was quiet and soft spoken, so very quick on and off the field, climbing everything he could, along with the fact that when he got excited, he literally squeaked, his mom gave him the nickname, Mouse. His “Mighty Mouse” name came on November 24, 2020, when Jackson was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. His favorite vacation place was Florida along the Emerald Coast. He loved spending time on the beach with all his family and trying to catch fish he had never caught before. He was adventurous and liked trying new things like skim boarding, crabbing, snorkeling or just walking along the beach searching for things that washed up on the shore. He loved watching the dolphins and the spectacular sunsets along the coasts. Jackson loved his Grandma’s porcupine meatballs and homemade chicken and noodles. He couldn’t wait for grandpa’s ham during holiday feasts, his dad’s fried rice and mom’s breakfast meals and lasagna were a comfort to him while at home. His favorite drink was Arizona sweet tea or the Arnold palmer, half tea/half lemonade. Almond Joy, Milky Way, and Hershey’s chocolate with almonds were among his favorite candy bars. His favorite ice cream was rainbow sherbet. His favorite color was green. Jackson was a true warrior. He was resilient, strong, tough, and able to tackle anything that he came up against. He was kind and patient with all his younger cousins and niece. He absolutely relished the fact that he was Uncle Mouse to his most favorite little girl, Charlotte Faye. When he wasn’t able to be home or with other family, he would turn to his Xbox where he could talk, yell and scream and get so excited with his friends and gaming buddy, Jenson, playing his Xbox. Jackson completed his elementary school years as a Milford Laker at Milford Elementary School and continued through his middle school years as a Junction City Middle School Wildcat. Jackson was to begin his sophomore year as a Blue Jay at Junction City High School and was looking forward to getting back on the soccer field to play alongside his brother and friends. His favorite part of the school day…the end of the day bell. His earthly journey is over, but an eternal, peaceful, loving journey with the Lord God and all his loving relatives that preceded him is his to make. He will truly be forever missed and forever in our hearts. She was born on November 28, 1921. Mildred grew up on a farm south of 
Athol, Kansas. She married Lester Grauerholz, also of rural Athol, and 
together they reared three children. She was active in the St. John 
Lutheran Church, enjoyed playing the piano, helped with farm chores, and
 was noted for being an excellent seamstress and cook. Family and field 
hands alike always looked forward to her pies and desserts. She was 
generous with her time and put the needs of others ahead of her own. 
 Mildred was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Sophia 
(Engelke) Hermanns, her husband Lester, her daughters Patricia 
Gerstenkorn and Grace Hainke, her son-in-law Don Gerstenkorn and 
daughter-in-law Diane (Woods) Grauerholz, and great grandchild Kyle 
Begin.
 She is survived by her son James (Kay) Grauerholz of Wichita, KS, 
son-in-law Gary (Elizabeth) Hainke, Kensington, KS, and grandchildren

Mildred Minnie Grauerholz

Richard L. “Rick” Dinges, 66, of Fruita, Colorado, passed away with 
family by his side on August 17, 2022, after a short battle with cancer.
 Rick was born January 1, 1956, in Hays, Kansas, to Leroy and 
Elizabeth (Schnatterly) Dinges. He graduated from Hays High School with 
the Class of 1975, and met Dorene Hake soon after. New jobs led them to 
Denver, Colorado, where they were married February 14, 1980. They 
welcomed their son, Levi, on March 26, 1989. Rick enjoyed hunting, 
fishing, snowmobiling, four wheeling and motorcycling in the Colorado 
mountains, especially with Levi. He retired as a Denver Sheriff Deputy

KS, Sharon Wasinger (Roxanne Witmer), Pueblo West, CO, Mary Jane Arnhold
 (Tim), Loveland, CO, Michelle Dietrich (Fred), Wamego, KS, Lucy Barnes 
(Howard), Julie Rider (Kurt), and Betsy Forinash (Brian), all of Hays; 
along with many siblings-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in 
death by his father, Leroy, and his brothers, Cliff and Chris.
 A graveside service and inurnment will be held at a later date at St Joseph Cemetery, Hays, Kansas.

family by his side on August 17, 2022, after a short battle with cancer.
 Rick was born January 1, 1956, in Hays, Kansas, to Leroy and 
Elizabeth (Schnatterly) Dinges. He graduated from Hays High School with 
the Class of 1975, and met Dorene Hake soon after. New jobs led them to 
Denver, Colorado, where they were married February 14, 1980. They 
welcomed their son, Levi, on March 26, 1989. Rick enjoyed hunting, 
fishing, snowmobiling, four wheeling and motorcycling in the Colorado 
mountains, especially with Levi. He retired as a Denver Sheriff Deputy 
in 2015, and moved to Fruita to enjoy retirement with Dorene.
 Rick is survived by his wife Dorene of 42 years; his son Levi

Nancy May (Levin) Muir passed away on August 26, 2022, at her home in 
Stockton, KS, at the age of 90. She was born on January 24, 1932, to 
Carl and May (Anderson) Levin in Salina, KS. She married Richard Davis 
“Dick” Muir on January 27, 1952, in Salina and they were blessed with 5 
children: Mike, Dana, Brad, John and Pat.
 Nancy grew up in Salina and graduated from Salina High School in 
1950. After she graduated high school, she worked as a secretary for 
Scoular Grain Company. Nancy met Dick on a blind date arranged by very 
dear mutual friends. After being married, Nancy left the comforts of her
 family’s urban home and moved to the country where she and Dick started
 farming and started their family. After her children were raised, she 
worked as a secretary at the high school and later she worked at the 
Main Street Medical Clinic. Nancy loved to cook and care for her family,
 especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who called her 
GG. She enjoyed attending their school and sporting events. She always 
took her local great grands to the Library every Friday and made sure 
they all went to swimming lessons during the summer sessions. Nancy 
loved to play golf and was a member of the Sunflowerettes women’s golf 
division. She taught her grandson, Heath, how to golf and later enjoyed 
going to his many tournaments. Nancy was a member and board member of 
the Methodist Church, she was on the Valley View Board, she belonged to 
ESA Sorority and the Sunflower EHS.
 Nancy was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. Her love, 
intelligence, positivity, laughter, faith, and compassion helped raise 
an amazing family and impacted the lives of all who knew her. Whether 
life was dealing an easy hand or a difficult one, she taught us all how 
to live with amazing grace, joy, and happiness. Nancy had a love that 
knew no bounds this side of heaven and has now found its fullness in 
Christ; for that we rejoice, until we see her again, on the other side 
of heaven.

Nancy May (Levin) Muir

Bethel P. McElroy passed away on August 23, 2022, in Sterling, Kansas, at
 the age of 91. He was born to Irving and Mina (Forgy) McElroy in Palco,
 Kansas, on December 2, 1930. Bethel was united in marriage to Bonnie 
McClellan on June 2, 1951, at the Palco United Methodist Church in 
Palco, Kansas. To this union, four sons were born: Rod, Mickie, Jim and 
Larry.
 Bethel grew up in Palco and graduated from Palco High School in 
1947. Following high school, he worked at his in-laws’ company, 
McClellan Chevrolet until he went into the United States Army in 1951. 
Bethel was honorably discharged in 1953 and the couple moved to a farm 
near Palco on the Red Line before moving into town to raise their sons 
in 1957. He spent his years tending to his wheat and milo fields and 
raising his black angus cattle with his family. He also custom harvested
 for a stint. Bethel enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish. In
 addition to outdoor activity, he loved playing pool or snooker, and 
played in many team tournaments. With his love of sports, he attended 
many of his grandchildren’s high school events, and he was a Chiefs and 
K-State football fan. In his later years he made it a priority to travel
 to Texas and Ohio to visit his grandchildren. He was a member of the 
Hill City VFW, United Methodist Church in Palco, and the Masons.
 Bethel was a man of great character, strong values, and deep love 
for his family and friends. Although he will be greatly missed, his 
love and influence will remain in the hearts and lives of all of us. May
 Bethel’s legacy inspire each of us to encourage one another, cherish 
the ties that bind, and live to serve God, Home, and Country everyday of
 our lives.
 He is survived by his sons, Rod (Jolene) McElroy of Wheelersburg, 
OH, Mickie (Glenda) McElroy of Logan, KS, Jim (Bonnie) McElroy of

Leland Doss Chapman, 85, died on Saturday, August 27, 2022, with his 
family by his side and was reunited in heaven with his loving wife 
Sandra. He was born on April 25, 1937, the oldest of 4 kids of Jack 
&amp; Lena (Schweitzer) Chapman. He married Sandra J. Mendenhall on 
February 14, 1960, at Utica. She preceded him in death. 
Leland graduated from Utica High School and enlisted in the United 
States Army. After his discharge he owned and operated his construction
 business. Later he returned to the family farm and greatly enjoyed 
raising cattle and growing crops. He was especially proud of his family
 heritage and the Chapman family long history in both Utica and Gove 
County dating back to 1887 and also being a proud Army Veteran. His 
last 4 years were spent in the Lane County Long Term Center and the 
family would like to thank the staff for their compassionate care during
 the difficult times. 
He is survived by his Daughter- Melissa (Jake) Jacobs of Middlebury, 
Indiana, Son- Jack (Susan) Chapman of Dighton, Sister- Bonnie Chapman of
 Denver, Colorado, Brother- Russ (Alana) Chapman of Dighton, 11 
Grandchildren and 11 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 
his Parents, Wife, Son &amp; Daughter-In-Law- Delwin and Tamara Chapman 
and Brother- Toby Chapman.

Michigan. He grew up and went to school in Clifton, Colorado and 
graduated from Clifton High School in 1969. Jay worked as an automotive 
mechanic and retired in 1987. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and most of
 all spending time with his family and friends.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gerald; and grandson, Thomas Brutsche.&nbsp;

Jay Arthur Brutsche

A Memorial Service for Charley Burton Rasp, age 84, of Enid, OK, is 
10:00 am, Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel.
 Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral 
Home. 
Charley was born August 8, 1938, in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, and passed away
 Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK. His 
proud parents were Alfred Leo Rasp Sr. and Nellie Louise (Grimes) Rasp 
of Abilene, Kansas. 
The Rasp family moved to Abilene, Kansas, in 1941. Charley attended 
Garfield Grade School, Abilene Junior High and Abilene High School. 
During these school years, he was active in football, basketball, 
baseball and sang in the Abilene High choir and mixed ensemble. Charley 
played American Legion baseball during the summer for several seasons. 
Charley and Judith Ann Menges were married June 12, 1960, at the First 
Christan Church in Abilene, Ks. Afterwards, the couple moved to Hays, 
Kansas, to attend Fort Hays State University. Judy worked for the 
University's Director of Housing while Charley worked on the school 
maintenance program. During March 1963, the couple was blessed with the 
birth of Michelle Renee. Charley graduated from Fort Hays State 
University in May 1963, earning a bachelor's degree in Business 
Administration. 
The couple then moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where Charley joined 
Phillips Petroleum Company as an accounting trainee. One year later, 
they moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where they maintained their home 
for 29 plus years. During those many years, the family grew to five, 
with Troy Randall and Jennifer Lynn both joining the family. Charley was
 very active supporting the kids activities (school PTA, sports at the 
Boys Club, Bartlesville Little League, served as president of Pony/Colt 
League for four years, as well as acting as a coach and director of 
softball and baseball for Little League). Charley and Judy were very 
active in square dancing. The family were members of the East Cross 
Methodist Church in Bartlesville. 
Charley entered a "loan service program" for Phillips Petroleum in 1975,
 with the position being in Norway. The family headed to London, England
 where Charley trained for 6 months. Then the family moved to Stavanger,
 Norway, for two years, where Charley served as Finance Manager for 
Norpipe A/S, while on loan service from Phillips Petroleum Co. The 
children attended the American School while in Stavanger. Living in 
Norway was a great experience for the entire family. Upon returning from
 Norway, the family returned to Bartlesville, Oklahoma. 
Charley held various positions before becoming Director of Banking &amp;
 Cash Management for Phillips Petroleum Company. Short of his 30-year 
anniversary, Phillips advised his services were no longer required, due 
to a major layoff within the company. Two years later, Charley joined 
the City of Kansas City, Missouri, Finance Department, Treasury Division
 as Manager of Cash Operations. After 15 years, Charley retired from the
 City of Kansas, Missouri.At this time, Michelle, Troy and Jennifer were
 away from the home and all three had earned their bachelor's degree 
from the University of Central Oklahoma, Edmond. Charley and Judy were 
very proud that all three kids earned their bachelor's degree. After 
retiring in Kansas City, Charley and Judy moved to Enid. Oklahoma. 
Charley joined the staff of the Garfield County District Attorney, 
working there for two years before retiring. Charley and Judy maintained
 their home in Enid where they enjoyed their grandchildren until the 
time of their passing. 
Survivors are daughter Michelle Renee Rasp Walsh of La Plata, MD, son 
Troy Randall Rasp of Enid, OK, daughter Jennifer Lynn Rasp of Ok. City, 
OK, grandsons Ryan Walsh and Logan Rasp, and granddaughters Haley Rasp

10:00 am, Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel.
 Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral 
Home. 
Charley was born August 8, 1938, in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, and passed away
 Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK. His 
proud parents were Alfred Leo Rasp Sr. and Nellie Louise (Grimes) Rasp 
of Abilene, Kansas. 
The Rasp family moved to Abilene, Kansas, in 1941. Charley attended 
Garfield Grade School, Abilene Junior High and Abilene High School. 
During these school years, he was active in football, basketball, 
baseball and sang in the Abilene High choir and mixed ensemble. Charley 
played American Legion baseball during the summer for several seasons. 
Charley and Judith Ann Menges were married June 12, 1960, at the First 
Christan Church in Abilene, Ks. Afterwards, the couple moved to Hays, 
Kansas, to attend Fort Hays State University. Judy worked for the 
University's Director of Housing while Charley worked on the school 
maintenance program. During March 1963, the couple was blessed with the 
birth of Michelle Renee. Charley graduated from Fort Hays State 
University in May 1963, earning a bachelor's degree in Business 
Administration. 
The couple then moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where Charley joined 
Phillips Petroleum Company as an accounting trainee. One year later, 
they moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where they maintained their home 
for 29 plus years. During those many years, the family grew to five, 
with Troy Randall and Jennifer Lynn both joining the family. Charley was
 very active supporting the kids activities (school PTA, sports at the 
Boys Club, Bartlesville Little League, served as president of Pony/Colt 
League for four years, as well as acting as a coach and director of 
softball and baseball for Little League). Charley and Judy were very 
active in square dancing. The family were members of the East Cross 
Methodist Church in Bartlesville. 
Charley entered a "loan service program" for Phillips Petroleum in 1975,
 with the position being in Norway. The family headed to London, England
 where Charley trained for 6 months. Then the family moved to Stavanger,
 Norway, for two years, where Charley served as Finance Manager for 
Norpipe A/S, while on loan service from Phillips Petroleum Co. The 
children attended the American School while in Stavanger. Living in 
Norway was a great experience for the entire family. Upon returning from
 Norway, the family returned to Bartlesville, Oklahoma. 
Charley held various positions before becoming Director of Banking &amp;
 Cash Management for Phillips Petroleum Company. Short of his 30-year 
anniversary, Phillips advised his services were no longer required, due 
to a major layoff within the company. Two years later, Charley joined 
the City of Kansas City, Missouri, Finance Department, Treasury Division
 as Manager of Cash Operations. After 15 years, Charley retired from the
 City of Kansas, Missouri.At this time, Michelle, Troy and Jennifer were
 away from the home and all three had earned their bachelor's degree 
from the University of Central Oklahoma, Edmond. Charley and Judy were 
very proud that all three kids earned their bachelor's degree. After 
retiring in Kansas City, Charley and Judy moved to Enid. Oklahoma. 
Charley joined the staff of the Garfield County District Attorney, 
working there for two years before retiring. Charley and Judy maintained
 their home in Enid where they enjoyed their grandchildren until the 
time of their passing. 
Survivors are daughter Michelle Renee Rasp Walsh of La Plata, MD, son 
Troy Randall Rasp of Enid, OK, daughter Jennifer Lynn Rasp of Ok. City, 
OK, grandsons Ryan Walsh and Logan Rasp, and granddaughters Haley Rasp 
Sparks, Megan Rasp Godfrey and Camryn Rasp.
