Delores Mae Zollman was born on July 3, 1932, in a rural farm house, 
northwest Long Island, Kansas, to Raymond (Ray) Edward Nyland and 
Angeline Adriana Van Greuningen Nyland. She was baptized and received 
full membership in the Christian faith at the Prairie View Reformed 
Church in Prairie View, Kansas. Delores married Carl John Zollman on 
July 15, 1952, at the Reformed Church in Prairie View, Kansas, and to 
this union three daughters were born: Peggy Jo (November 25, 1953), 
Connie Jean (February 13, 1955), and Carla June (November 4, 1958).

Delores attended Grade School and High School in Prairie View, Kansas
 where she graduated in the year 1950. She worked at her Uncle Walt’s 
Grocery store when she was in high school. During High School, she met 
her future husband, Carl, at a carnival. After graduation she worked for
 the telephone office (Southwestern Bell) in Norton, Kansas. She married
 her high school sweetheart in 1952 and they made their home in rural 
Phillips County.

Delores was an active member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of 
Stuttgart. She was a busy homemaker and farmer’s wife. She made her very
 popular Grandma Zollman pancakes for the grandkids. She was a 
self-taught seamstress and made all three wedding dresses for her three 
daughters including bridesmaid, flower girl dresses, and mother of the 
bride dresses. She worked at Dorothy’s Fabric and The Pin Cushion where 
she continued to make outfits for her grandchildren and many beautiful 
outfits for her only granddaughter, Stephenie. She made lovely and 
endearing quilts for each daughter and each grandchild.

Delores is survived by her husband Carl of the home; her three 
daughters Peggy (Howard) King of Phillipsburg, Kansas, Connie (Steve) 
Henderson of Ankeny, Iowa, Carla (Jim) Maneth of Great Bend, Kansas, 
seven grandchildren; Hadley (Abby) Henderson of Webster City, Iowa, 
Justin (Erin) King of Overland Park, Kansas, Stephenie (Chris) Johnson 
of Moorhead, Iowa, Aaron (Jenna) Andrews of Great Bend, Kansas, Jordan 
King of Austin, Texas, Nathan (Tracey) Andrews of Ellis, Kansas, and 
Trevor (Michel) Maneth of Gardner, Kansas; fourteen great grandchildren 
Collin Bailey, Caleb King, Grayson Henderson, Landon Johnson, Nora 
Andrews, Everett Henderson, Logan King, Lydiah Johnson, Pyper Maneth, 
Ella King, Ryker Maneth, Presley Henderson, Carter Andrews, and Creed 
Andrews. She is also survived by one brother; Larry (Sharon) Nyland of 
Phillipsburg, Kansas, and one sister; Wanda (Wayne) Schneider of Prairie
 View, Kansas and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death 
by her parents; Ray and Angeline Nyland and father and mother-in-law; 
Karl and Elizabeth (Barbara) Zollmann and sister and brother-in-law;Rex 
and Martha Kellogg.

jokes we enjoyed together. Pray, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my
 name be the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without
 effect, without trace of shadow on it. Life means all that it ever 
meant, it is the same as if ever was, there is an unbroken continuity. 
What is death but a negligible accident? Why should I be out of mind 
because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you for an interval, 
somewhere very near, just around the corner."

Wanda
 LaJoyce (Bryant) Campbell, age 100, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away 
Sunday, August 21, 2022. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 
26, at Porter Funeral Home, 8535 Monrovia, Lenexa, KS at 1:00.&nbsp; There 
will be no visitation prior to the service.

Wanda was born in Waring, Pennsylvania,&nbsp; to Charles F and Chessie (Kirk) Bryant.&nbsp; The family moved to Okmulgee, 
Oklahoma, when she was a baby. Her brother Bud was born a couple years 
later.&nbsp; Wanda graduated from Okmulgee High School and briefly attended 
the local junior college before she secretly eloped with her boyfriend 
and future husband Jack Campbell.&nbsp; After a brief time in Virginia while 
Jack served in the Coast Guard, they returned to Okmulgee. In 1949, the 
family moved to Kansas City and raised their son Victor and daughter 
Cheryl there.&nbsp; When her husband passed in 1990, Wanda moved to Lakeview 
Village where she lived until she passed.

Wanda was a stay-at-home mom until her 
children were in high school.&nbsp; She then applied her ample secretarial 
skills and began working for the Internal Revenue Service and later HUD 
where she was secretary to the Area Director for 20 years.&nbsp; She retired 
in 1982.

Her friends and co-workers describe 
Wanda as humble and never speaking an unkind word about anyone.&nbsp; She 
enjoyed a good laugh and a good Whiskey Sour on special occasions.&nbsp; 
Wanda was a quilter, a bridge player, a reader of good books and a lover
 of Clark Gable movies.&nbsp; Her husband and children loved her homemade 
divinity during the holidays, her endless cakes and pies (Jack had a 
sweet tooth), and of course, the wonderful Sunday fried chicken dinners.

Wanda is survived by her daughter Cheryl Jeter (Joseph) of Hays, KS, two granddaughters:&nbsp; Evan Fauerbach (Tyler) of Denver, CO and Emily Valdez (Eric) of Centennial, CO and 5 great grand-children:&nbsp; Lilly, Owen, Liesel, Margot 
and Beatrice. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, her son 
Victor and her parents Charles and Chessie Bryant.

Wanda was a true lady, always very&nbsp; 
proper in speech and appearance.&nbsp; She loved nice things, especially 
clothes, shoes and antiques.&nbsp; Although small in stature, she was a giant
 when it came to loving and caring for her family.

Eva Carson, 79, went to heaven to join Jesus on August 20, 2022, at 
Locust Grove nursing home in La Crosse. She was born to Drexel Dean and 
Charlotte (Clark) Thompson in Bedford, Iowa, on November 3, 1942. She was
 born just minutes before her twin sister, Reva. She attended Bedford 
Community School system. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and First
 Christian Church, La Crosse.

She married Charles Jones on July 17, 1961. To this union was born 5 
children. She lived in Bedford most of her life raising her family. In 
1984 she moved to Ashton, Indiana for a short time but decided to follow
 her daughter to Dodge City, Kansas. She later divorced Charles and 
married George Carson on September 21, 1991, and she said he was the love
 of her life. They were married until he died February 19, 2013.

During her life she worked as a nursing assistant for many years and 
loved caring for the elderly. When she finally got to the point, she 
could not do that type of work anymore, she started working for a donut 
shop. She loved when children would come up to her and say, “there is 
the donut lady.” In her free time, she loved to crochet baby blankets 
and afghans for her family and friends. She loved to have her 
grandchildren and great grandchildren visit often.

She is survived by 4 of her children; Floyd Jones and wife Marlene, 
Fowler, Kansas, Annette Mercer and husband Gary, La Crosse, Richard 
Jones and wife Sandra, Freeport, Texas and Charlie Jones and wife 
Danyel, of Highland, Illinois; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren;
 and her sister, Reva Patten, La Crosse, Kansas.

She was preceded death by her parents, husband, George, 2 brothers, 
Dean Thompson and Homer Loughry, and infant son, Harold Jones.

Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Friday, August 26, 2022, at Living 
Waters Pentecostal Holiness Church (302 E. Vine) with Rev. Siah Edwards 
officiating. Burial will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Ft. 
Dodge, Kansas. Visitation will be Thursday from noon to 8:00 pm at 
Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.

Arthur R. 'Art' Armbrister

Verlin J. Richert, 71, of Assaria, Kansas, left his family too soon on Saturday morning, August 13, 2022, after losing his battle with Dementia, surrounded by the love of his family.

Verlin was born on September 9, 1950, in Goessel, Kansas, the son of Orville and Delores (Jantz) Richert. He was raised and received his education in Durham, Kansas, and graduated from Durham High School in 1968. Verlin left the family farm to attend Brown Mackie College in Salina, Kansas receiving an Associates Degree in Business. Verlin met the love of his life Edna L. Berens and they were united in marriage on June 10, 1972, in Durham, Kansas. They made their home in Salina, Kansas, for six years. Verlin and Edna welcomed their son, Preston, in 1974, and their daughter, Pamela, in 1976. Shortly after their children were born, they built a home in Assaria, Kansas, where he resided until his passing.

Verlin began his working career at International Harvester after graduating from Brown Mackie College. He then worked for Exide Battery until gaining employment at Forever Oak in Salina, Kansas. This is where he combined his love for wood furniture and craftsmanship and his gift of never knowing a stranger. Verlin opened his own furniture store, Oak Treasures, in Wichita, Kansas. After closing his store, Verlin retired from Sam’s Club in 2018.

Verlin was an active member of his community and Assaria Lutheran Church. In his younger years, he was a member of the Assaria Jaycees.  He was a 4H project leader in woodworking and assisted in judging projects for many years.  He served as an Assaria City Council member for 8 years, maintained the Assaria Community Building, and also helped with the Assaria Community Garden.

In his free time, Verlin enjoyed woodworking and carving and always looked forward to traveling with Edna and extended family. Whether it be by bus or cruise ship, Verlin and Edna cherished the time they had together to enjoy new experiences and see new places. 

Verlin had such a big heart and his family meant everything to him. He spent his time attending his childrens’ activities, assisted them with 4H fair projects, and lent a helping hand to anyone who was in need. Verlin adored his seven grandchildren and made time to build projects with each. He also traveled all over the state to attend their activities, or just spend time with them. 

Verlin is survived by his wife Edna Richert of the home; son Preston M. Richert (Camille) of Winfield; daughter Pamela M. Hamlin (Chad) of Hugoton; sisters Krystal Jensen of McPherson, Annette Goering (Randy) of Great Bend; brother Bentley Richert (Connie) of Buhler; a very special aunt Lillian Peters (Joe) of North Newton; grandchildren Rozlynn Richert, Rhyanna Richert, Rheegyn Richert, Rylan Richert, Mitchell Hamlin, McKenna Hamlin, and Mikyn Hamlin; and many nieces and nephews.

Verlin was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Delores Richert; paternal grandparents Peter and Linda (Jantz) Richert and maternal grandparents Benjamin and Alma (Johnson) Jantz. 

Visitation was Friday, August 19, at Crick-Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg.

Funeral services were Saturday, August 20, at the Assaria Lutheran Church, Assaria, with Pastor Dean Apel officiating. Burial was at Assaria Lutheran Cemetery.

After closing his store, Verlin retired from Sam’s Club in 2018.Verlin was an active member of his community and Assaria Lutheran Church. In his younger years, he was a member of the Assaria Jaycees. He was a 4H project leader in woodworking and assisted in judging projects for many years. He served as an Assaria City Council member for 8 years, maintained the Assaria Community Building, and also helped with the Assaria Community Garden.In his free time, Verlin enjoyed woodworking and carving and always looked forward to traveling with Edna and extended family. Whether it be by bus or cruise ship, Verlin and Edna cherished the time they had together to enjoy new experiences and see new places. Verlin had such a big heart and his family meant everything to him. He spent his time attending his childrens’ activities, assisted them with 4H fair projects, and lent a helping hand to anyone who was in need. Verlin adored his seven grandchildren and made time to build projects with each. He also traveled all over the state to attend their activities, or just spend time with them. Verlin is survived by his wife Edna Richert of the home; son Preston M. Richert (Camille) of Winfield; daughter Pamela M. Hamlin (Chad) of Hugoton; sisters Krystal Jensen of McPherson, Annette Goering (Randy) of Great Bend; brother Bentley Richert (Connie) of Buhler; a very special aunt Lillian Peters (Joe) of North Newton; grandchildren Rozlynn Richert, Rhyanna Richert, Rheegyn Richert, Rylan Richert, Mitchell Hamlin, McKenna Hamlin, and Mikyn Hamlin; and many nieces and nephews.Verlin was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Delores Richert; paternal grandparents Peter and Linda (Jantz) Richert and maternal grandparents Benjamin and Alma (Johnson) Jantz. Beverly Karen David, 84, of Salina, passed away Friday, August 19th, 2022.
 Beverly was born in Lamar, Colorado on October 27, 1937, a daughter of Roland Lowell and Zella Lucille (Walters) Ellenberger.
 Beverly became a cosmetologist; she entered this field because she 
loved people and cared about making them feel and look their best. 
Beverly instilled a sense of pride and confidence for all her clients. 
Beverly's mission in life was to help feed thousands of children 
throughout her lifetime. She was president of the board of First Choice 
Support Services, Inc. for 30 years.
 Survivors: Bobbie Felzien (Mark), of Kanorado, Kansas, Melanie 
Wilson (Dan), of Olathe, Kansas, Mindy David-Graybeal (Rick), of Salina,
 Kansas, Bryan David, of Smithville, Missouri, K.R. David, of Overland

Kenneth Keith “Kenny” King Jr., of Nickerson, died August 21, 2022, 
at his home. He was born November 7, 1951, in Norfolk, VA, to Kenneth K.
 and Carroll E. (Alexander) King Sr.

Kenny graduated from Nickerson High School in 1969. He served in the 
United States Navy from 1969 to 1974. Kenny was a machinist at 
Cessna/Eaton for 41 years, retiring as Supervisor of Quality Control. He
 was baptized in the First Christian Church of Nickerson at the age of 
12. Kenny enjoyed watching sports of all kinds, collecting John Wayne 
and Elvis Presley memorabilia, and doing genealogical research.

On November 26, 1984, he married Donna (Gardner) Payne. She died February 19, 2012.

Kenny is survived by: his children, Andy Gardner of Nickerson, Donna 
Truitt (David) of Hutchinson, David Gardner of Norton, John Powell 
(Kathy) of Hutchinson, Jeffery Payne of Nickerson; siblings, Karen

Mary Bernetta (Heim) Niblock went to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus 
Christ, on Friday, August 19, 2022, after spending her last few weeks at 
the Sheridan County Long Term Care Unit in Hoxie, KS.
 She was born at the family home in Leoville, KS on June 9, 1942, to 
parents William and Marie (Mannebach) Heim. She attended elementary 
school through 5th grade in Leoville, except for her 4th grade year 
which was spent at Consolidated Rural School. Her family then moved to 
Hoxie during her 6th grade year where she went on to graduate from 
Sheridan County High School in 1960. Following High School, she moved to
 Salina, attending Salina Beauty Academy. Upon completion of beauty 
school, she returned to Hoxie and began working for Marie Brown at her 
beauty salon. Being a beautician was a perfect occupation for Mary 
because she loved to visit and never knew a stranger.
 Mary was united in marriage to Donald D. Niblock on August 11, 
1962. They made their home in rural Studley, KS where they farmed, 
milked cows, and raised pigs &amp; chickens. They were blessed with 5 
children: Melissa, Donald II, Daniel, Melinda, and Michaela. She 
operated Mary’s Country Beauty Shop out of their rural farm home for 
over 25 years. In 1992 Don &amp; Mary moved to Hoxie and she opened 
Mary’s Town &amp; Country Beauty Shop, where she continued to offer 
shampoo/sets, haircuts, colors, and perms for another 25 years. Since 
the beauty shop was in their home, family members recall fond memories 
of visiting with the ladies and listening in to hear the latest 
happenings around town (according to Mary, it was an exchange of 
information, not gossip). Mary was a dedicated and faithful wife and 
mother, always working hard to care for her family. In addition to 
owning her own business, she also spent many years driving the school 
bus for USD 412. Mary possessed a heart for serving others and played an
 active role in her church, the women’s Sodality, the Sheridan County 
Benefit Walk, and any other way in which she could serve. She enjoyed 
being a part of the local ladies’ Red Hat Society, enjoying many outings
 filled with fun and laughter. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy,
 and they LOVED and always requested her fried chicken. A favorite 
pastime when all of her kids and grandkids were home involved playing 
dominoes or cards around the table. Every year, she eagerly awaited the 
entire family gathering for the Sheridan County Fair, parade, and 
amusement rides. She enjoyed baking, cooking, and gardening, all loves 
that were passed down from her mother. Mary never missed an opportunity 
to find a good bargain at an auction or garage sale, always hunting for 
that next piece of depression glass, Roseville pottery, or treasured 
Lady Head to display in her beauty shop.
 Mary was preceded in death by her grandson, Trevor Luckey; parents,
 William &amp; Marie Heim; brothers Jerome and Jim (Gail); sisters 
Bonnie (Bud) Lager and Eileen (Phil) Thompson; and sisters-in-law Jan 
and Grace.
 She is survived by her husband, Don; children Missy (Bob) Ruf, 
Oberlin, KS; Don (Liz) Niblock Fergus Falls, MN; Dan (Chris) Niblock, 
Hoxie; Mindy (Will) Mitchell, Colorado Springs, CO; and Michaela 
(Randee) Luckey, Columbus, NE. Grandchildren Derek (Moe) &amp; Colton 
Spresser; Megan, Alicia, and Matthew Niblock; Madi, Brynn, &amp; Kyler 
Niblock; Anneliese &amp; Mick Mitchell; Jonathon Luckey; and great 
granddaughter, Nora Spresser; Brothers Gerald (Helen), Don, Joe

 God saw she was getting weaker so He did what He saw best…He joined
 her in her sleep and whispered “Mary, come for rest.” We cannot

10:30 A.M. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church , Hoxie, Kansas. A 
Visitation and Vigil and Rosary Service will be held Wednesday, August 
24, 2022 at Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home. The Visitation will be held 
from 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with family receiving friends from 5:00 P.M.

Robert E. “Bob” Glassman, 90, Hays, died Sunday, August 21, 2022, at Hays Good Samaritan Society.

He was born October 27, 1931, in Hays, 
the son of Edgar C. and Amelia (Haas) Glassman.&nbsp; Bob graduated from Hays
 High School and attended Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; On September 13, 
1954, he was united in marriage to Geraldine Younger in Victoria.&nbsp; They 
later divorced. &nbsp;He worked as a plumber and was the owner and operator 
of The Downtowner.&nbsp; His memberships included St. Joseph Catholic Church,
 St. Joseph Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #1325, and the 
Order of Secular Franciscans.&nbsp; Bob loved baseball, and for 18 years, 
coached the Little League Cardinals and Hays Legion teams.&nbsp; He enjoyed 
making rosaries and putting puzzles together, all of which are cherished
 by family.

Survivors include his son: Edgar 
Glassman and wife Diana of Hays, four daughters: Debbie Lewton of Hays, 
Shelly Glassman of Great Bend, Bobbi Irwin and husband Les of Topeka, 
and Amy Huff of Hays, four sisters: Esther Pfannenstiel of Billings, MT,

Neil Noel Hurlburt, age 87, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Parkview Care Center in Osborne, KS.
 His strong faith in God made this transition peaceful. He was born 
on October 14, 1934, at home in the Mayflower Community, the son of 
Wilkes and Celeste (Ulmer) Knoll. He was adopted at 8 months old by 
Jerry R. and Vesta (Roach) Hurlburt. His hobbies were coin and stamp 
collecting, gardening, playing cards and board games with nieces, 
nephews and cousins. He enjoyed raising livestock. He and his dad 
enjoyed working together doing remodeling and construction jobs.
 After his parents passed away he went to live with his cousin Dean 
and Ramona Cole in Dodge City, where he became very close with their 
families. He was well liked by the Dodge City community. He especially
 enjoyed volunteering with Dodge City Days Rodeo.
 He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. He is 
survived by two sisters Marvel (Hurlburt) (Cameron) Schaadt and Dorothy 
(Knoll) Alfen. Other survivors include many nieces, nephews and 
cousins.

She was born on September 30th,&nbsp;1935,&nbsp;in Ness County, Kansas to Jessee and Helen (Doty) Clouston.&nbsp;Mary Lee married Jerry Scott,&nbsp;and to this union Jerry Robert “J.R.”,&nbsp;Oklahoma, and&nbsp;Cindy Lee&nbsp;(Mike)&nbsp;Ashcraft, of Hays, Kansas&nbsp;were born.&nbsp;She married Leroy Hefel in 1961,&nbsp;and to this union Barbara Helen&nbsp;Dungan,&nbsp;Colorado Springs, Colorado,&nbsp;and Beverly Ann&nbsp;(David)&nbsp;Dunne&nbsp;of Alpine,&nbsp;Utah were&nbsp;born.&nbsp;She married Joe DeShazo in 1968 and to this union Jodie Jean&nbsp;(Michael)&nbsp;Johnston&nbsp;of Overland Park, Kansaswas born.&nbsp;

She enjoyed school&nbsp;in Ness City,&nbsp;Kansas,&nbsp;and was a cheerleader in&nbsp;high school.&nbsp;She also played the violin,&nbsp;and&nbsp;later in&nbsp;life would sometimes play&nbsp;“Auld Lang Syne”&nbsp;for us&nbsp;on New&nbsp;Year’s&nbsp;Eve,&nbsp;on the front porch when she&nbsp;lived in Midwest City,&nbsp;Okla.&nbsp;Mary Lee traveled and lived in many states&nbsp;in the&nbsp;U.S. while&nbsp;an Air Force wife.&nbsp;She made many new friends during this time.&nbsp;She&nbsp;and Joe&nbsp;lived in Oklahoma after marrying,&nbsp;and then&nbsp;settled in Ness City, Kansas. Joe passed away in 1997&nbsp;in Ness City, Kansas. She worked and volunteered&nbsp;while in Ness City while they raised&nbsp;the three youngest&nbsp;daughters.&nbsp;She later&nbsp;moved to Dighton, Kansas, and enjoyed the&nbsp;activities and&nbsp;friends&nbsp;she made at the&nbsp;Citizens&nbsp;Center&nbsp;(The&nbsp;Joy Center)&nbsp;there. She later moved to Hays, Kansas, near her daughter Cindy and her family. She then moved to&nbsp;Colorado Springs with her daughter Barb&nbsp;and Barb’s daughter Shannon.&nbsp;She enjoyed reading,&nbsp;gardening,&nbsp;camping&nbsp;at the lake,&nbsp;cooking, and enjoyed spending time&nbsp;with her grandchildren Ronnie, Tina,&nbsp;Skyler,&nbsp;Cassidy, Shannon,&nbsp;Corey, Lindsey, Ashley,&nbsp;Dylan, Sydney, Abbey, and Katey, and&nbsp;all&nbsp;her&nbsp;great grandkids. Mary Lee (Clouston) DeShazo

Duane C. Heble, 87, of Colby, KS passed away on Aug. 20th, 2022, at Citizens Medical Center, Colby, KS. 
Duane was born in Benkelman, NE, May 6th, 1935, he was the 3rd child of 
Henry and Francis (Micek) Heble. Duane spent his childhood on the family
 farm, north of Atwood KS, and attended a country school through the 8th
 grade &amp; Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, surrounded by 
Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. He attended High School and graduated in 1954
 from St Joes’ Military Academy, in Hays, KS. 
Duane enlisted in the US Army and served in Korea. He returned to Kansas
 and the family farm after his service. He met and married Marilyn 
Depperschmidt, Oct 6, 1962, and they moved to Colby, KS where they 
welcomed and raised 3 children. 
 In addition to farming, he began working at KN Energy in 1964. For 30+ 
years he would use his evenings, weekends, and vacation time to farm, 
which he took great pride in and demonstrated an incredible work ethic 
to his family. During his time at KN he became a skilled welder, a skill
 he used well into retirement to “modify” and engineer all sorts of 
things. Even though it was a demanding schedule he still took time to be
 involved in and enjoyed his kids’ activities some of which included 
Boys Scouts, Colby Swim Club, and coaching baseball teams. 
Duane was a devout member of the Colby Sacred Heart Church, and over the
 years was an active member in Knights of Columbus, Parish Council, the 
cemetery and auction committee. One of his favorite roles after he 
retired was driving the school bus for the Sacred Heart School. 
After retiring from KN Energy in 1995 it allowed more time for farming, 
and to explore other interests. He enjoyed A LOT of fishing and started 
an annual fishing trip with his son Blaine, brother in-laws and nephews 
which has now grown to include his grandsons. A tradition that has 
continued for the last 25+ years. After the trip last fall when all his 
grandsons were able to join him, he told us that would probably be the 
last year he would be able to go. 
Duane was a lifelong learner and would “sit in” on classes at the 
college and was able to participate in several history classes and an 
archeological dig. 
He also enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren and 
attended as many sporting events, school activities, dance recitals and 
graduations as possible. They were a great source of joy and pride for 
him. 
In all his endeavors he collected friends and stories. Duane loved to 
tell stories, many times the stories he told were better than the actual
 event itself. It is hard to talk about Duane, whether family, friend, 
acquaintance and not have a “story” to tell. 
Duane was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Francis Heble; 
sister Sr. Phyllis Marie Heble; brother Ron Heble, and his beloved 
daughter Brenda Heble. 
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Marilyn, of 
Colby, KS; children, Blaine (Vonceile), of Lindsborg, KS, and Becky 
(Scot) Bullock, of Leawood, KS; brother, Richard Heble, and his 
grandchildren, Hanna (Trevor) Whittaker, Clare Bullock, Colby Bullock, 
Blake Heble, Carly Bullock, and Brandt Heble. 
Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m., with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 
23, 2022, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby, KS. The Funeral Mass is at 10:30

Norton, KS resident, Mark Anthony Van Patten passed away August 19, 2022, at the Norton County Hospital at the age of 43.

He was born July 21, 1979, in Kearney, NE the son of Anthony and Rose (Anderson) Van Patten.&nbsp;

Survivors include his girlfriend Jessica Ebner and their two boys 
Brandon Mathew and Ashton Alexander of Norton, KS; his three daughters 
Khrissanna Marrie, Téa Marrie, and Serenity Rose Van Patten all of 
Norton, KS; two sept-daughters Rylie Linner and Karmyn Rutherford of 
Norton; step-son Gavin Rutherford of Norton; three grandchildren; two 
step-grandchildren; parents Anthony and Rose Van Patten of Almena, KS; 
brothers Mathew Van Patten and wife Hilary of Almena and Benjamin Van 
Patten of Phillipsburg; and his paternal grandfather David Van Patten of
 Almena, KS.

Cremation was planned.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 26th,&nbsp; in the Norton Christian Church with Pastor Nate Hagen officiating.&nbsp; The

Victor Edwin Campbell was preceded in death by his father, Jack LeRoy Campbell and longtime companion David A. Stickelber.

He is survived by his mother Wanda 
LaJoyce (Bryant) Campbell, sister Cheryl Jeter (Joseph), niece Evan 
Fauerbach (Tyler), children Lilly, Owen and Liesel and niece Emily 
Valdez (Eric), children Margot and Beatrice, and goddaughters Anne 
Austin Pearce and Sarah Pearce and many close friends.&nbsp;

Victor lived an extraordinary life, one 
of wonder and expedition. He was a charismatic, generous, quick-witted 
friend who loved a good laugh, regularly one he started. In the presence
 of his mother Wanda, he shined in kindness, but rarely hid his 
mischievous self to Wanda’s quiet delight. Victor was a good and caring 
son, his thoughts and actions of attention and love for his mother were 
steadfast and inimitable.

He was a lover of all the finest things 
in life: books, food, flowers, music, and great conversation. He had a 
devilish twinkle in his eye that marked amusement and the threat of 
something mischievous. He entertained friends and family beautifully. 
&nbsp;If one was lucky enough to receive a note from Victor, it was worth 
saving, his care and thoughtfulness shown through exquisite penmanship.

If there was music playing, Victor 
danced with panache. If no music was playing, he might encourage singing
 a show tune or two. He could make you feel like the only one in the 
room who mattered. He loved to live in the moment and extend that moment
 from night to dawn. For Victor, it was never “the sort of night for

Victor was a devoted son, brother, uncle
 and friend to so many who will miss him, but he left us with a fortune

John Royd Olson, 75, of Yorktown Indiana, formerly of Hoxie, KS, passed 
away peacefully on Thursday, August 18, 2022, surrounded by his loving 
family.
 He was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late Lorin and Ruby (Alvig) 
Olson. John attended Lane Technical High School in Chicago, Illinois 
(School of Champions), Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois 
(Bachelor of Arts in Math) and the University of Kansas (Master of Arts 
in Teaching Mathematics). While teaching on an emergency certificate in 
Northwest Iowa he met the love of his life Brenda (Diischer); they 
married on May 7th, 1971.
 John dedicated his life to education, he loved and cared for his 
students and enjoyed the company of his fellow educators. He taught at 
Hoxie High School in Hoxie, Kansas for 30 years. While teaching at Hoxie
 High he spent all 30 years as the student council advisor. Following 
his tenure at Hoxie High, John taught upper-level math at Colby 
Community College for 17 years in Colby, Kansas. Additionally, he served
 as the college sponsor of Phi Delta Phi Honor Society. He was a member 
of Phi Delta Kappa, a national fraternity of educators. 
 He was dedicated to his family; he looked forward to spring break 
and summer holidays traveling with the kids and grandkids. His family 
always included his “pups,” his heart had endless love for all of them.
 In his spare time, John could be found in the basement woodworking 
or doing improvements around the house. He enjoyed decorating the house 
for Halloween and Christmas. He loved to travel, attend theater, 
museums, and amusement parks with his family. All of these improvements,
 decorations or family members often were the subject of his 
photographic endeavors. There wasn’t a chair that he couldn’t rest his 
eyes in. 
 He is survived by his wife Brenda, sons Peter (Amy), Matthew 
(Carlie), Daughter-in-law Barbara Lewis (Jared), and grandchildren 
Hunter, Connor, Rylee, Bentley, and Liam. Also, his current pups, Cooper
 and Zoey.
 He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Peter Lind.

William T. Bulinski, 69, died on Thursday August 18, 2022, at his 
daughter’s home in Ashland. He was born on December 21, 1952, at 
Jackson, Michigan, the son of Edmund Thomas &amp; Billie Ann (Thrasher) 
Bulinski. He married Ellen DeAnne McKenna on June 15, 1985, at Sharon 
Springs. She died on July 24, 2022. 
Bill completed his schooling at Maryville High School in Maryville, 
Arizona. He worked as a landscaper in several different places and 
moved to Dighton in 1981. He was a longtime employee of Lane County, 
serving as maintenance director of Lane County Courthouse, Lane County 
Road Department and Lane County Landfill. He enjoyed fishing, hunting 
and his water garden. 
He is survived by his Children- Stanley Bulinski of Dighton, Sean 
Bulinski of Emporia, Amy Piedra of Dighton and Jaime Ortiz of Ashland, 
Step-Children- James Warner of Ashland and Dani Applegate of 
Jacksonville, Arkansas, Mother- Billie Bulinski of Apache Junction,

Issac Jeremiah Redburn, age 18, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 
2022, in Scott County, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on June 28, 2004, in Scott 
City, Kansas, the son of Micheal Dale Redburn and Loreena Stephanie 
Johnson.&nbsp; Issac was born in Scott City and moved to Haviland, Kansas at 
an early age until June of 2022 when he moved back to Scott City, 
Kansas.&nbsp; He was a Clerk and Cook at Casey’s General Store.

Issac was a member of the Friends Chapel in Haviland, Kansas, and was
 a past member of the FFA.&nbsp; Issac was a Kansas City Chiefs fan.

Survivors include his Father - Micheal Redburn of Haviland, Kansas, 
Two Brothers - Payton Redburn of Dighton, Kansas, Shawn Redburn of

Kathryn L. Taylor, age 86, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022, at
 the Sterling Village Senior Living Center in Sterling, Kansas.&nbsp; She was
 born on December 7, 1935, in Leoti, Kansas, the daughter of M. F. and 
Violet Elder Appl.&nbsp; A resident of Scott City, Kansas since 1958 moving 
from Leoti, Kansas, she was a homemaker and a clerk at Duckwall's.

Kathryn had recently moved to Sterling Village after 65 years in 
Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp; She called Scott City home but couldn't wait to be 
called home by her Lord and Savior.&nbsp; She was a member of the First 
Baptist Church in Scott City, Kansas.

On April 15, 1956, she married Don&nbsp;Taylor in Leoti, Kansas.&nbsp; He passed away on July 9, 2016, in Scott City, Kansas.

Survivors include her Three Sons - Steve &amp; Jennifer Taylor of

Amy Ellen Casper, age 81, of Hays, 
Kansas, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2022, in Hays. She was born June 
23, 1941, in Paradise, Kansas, to Harold and Amy (Corwin) Thacker.

Amy was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, sewing, jigsaw puzzles and especially her family.

She is survived by a son, Wilbur Casper
 and special friend Sheri Sammons of Russell; a daughter, Lorretta Keene
 and husband Ed of Fulton, Missouri; a brother, Harold Dean Thacker of 
Wichita, Kansas; four grandchildren, Hiedi, Amy, Arianna and Andon as 
well as one great grandchild, Nicholi.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Ernest and Lester Thacker.

Graveside Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 27, 2022, in the Bunker Hill Cemetery.

A celebration gathering will follow services in the Bunker Hill Community Center until3:00 PM

Kansas, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2022, in Hays. She was born June 
23, 1941, in Paradise, Kansas, to Harold and Amy (Corwin) Thacker.Amy was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting, sewing, jigsaw puzzles and especially her family.She is survived by a son, Wilbur Casper
 and special friend Sheri Sammons of Russell; a daughter, Lorretta Keene
 and husband Ed of Fulton, Missouri; a brother, Harold Dean Thacker of 
Wichita, Kansas; four grandchildren, Hiedi, Amy, Arianna and Andon as 
well as one great grandchild, Nicholi.She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Ernest and Lester Thacker.Graveside Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 27, 2022, in the Bunker Hill Cemetery.A celebration gathering will follow services in the Bunker Hill Community Center until3:00 PMMemorial contributions are suggested to Russell VFW Honor Guard or The Wounded Warrior Foundation.Condolences may be shared by guest book
