Robert was born on November 15, 1931, in Red Cloud, NE to Charles E. 
Hildreth, of Wray, CO and Ruth Pauline Harris Hildreth, of Salina, KS.

Bob's father passed away when he was only two months-old.&nbsp; After the 
passing of his father, Bob’s mother along with his four year-old brother
 moved to Fort Morgan, CO, where his mother married Ray Johnson.&nbsp; His 
step dad worked for the railroad and the family with 10 children lived 
in two box cars that had been set across the road from the railroad 
tracks, and heated with coal stoves.

Bob joined the Navy in 1951, and was in the Seabees until February of
 1955.&nbsp; He was a member of the Seabees Construction Battalion, serving 
in French Morocco, North Africa, where he was an electrician.

Upon Bob's honorable discharge from the Navy, he moved to Denver, CO,
 where he met his Marita Orle at the Assembly of God Church. They were 
married on December 7, 1958.

Bob was a devout born-again believer in Jesus Christ and never hesitated to share his testimony and belief in God with others.&nbsp;

Bob was a business man and invested in residential and commercial real estate throughout Colorado and Kansas.

Bob and Marita were married for 53 years and welcomed two children, 
Lynette Penny (Gary) of Burlington, CO and Karl Hildreth (Holly) of 
Tulsa, OK.&nbsp; Bob will be deeply missed by his children and their spouses 
along with his 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren: Kyle Gateley 
of Rochester, NY (Jude 7) Brittany Bodley (Tim) of Claremore, OK&nbsp; (Ella 
14, Kaleb 12, Lyla 9, Kamden 7 &amp; Charlotte 9mo) Kameron Gateley 
(Beth) of Timnath, CO (Lyla 2 &amp; Weston 1 mo.) Kollin Gateley 
(Amanda) of Englewood, CO (Elise 3 &amp; baby due October 2022) Brielle 
Hildreth (Michael) of Oklahoma City, OK (baby due November 2022) Brianna
 Eichelberger (Rhett) of Broken Arrow, OK (Kate 4, Emma 2 &amp; Avery 1)
 Kirsten Daly (Jack) of Golden, CO.

Bob and Marita built their lifetime legacy, a Cabin in Grand Lake, 
CO, where they spent their weekends, summers and holidays with their 
growing family, making memories with their children and grandchildren.

Following Marita's death in 2011, Bob married Karen Hansen in 2018.

Bob is proceeded in death by his parents, a brother Chuck Hildreth, 
sisters June Doris, Retha Holmes &amp; Maxine Lecrone, and step siblings
 Viola, Lorraine, Gerald, Robert and Illa.

Because of Bob’s faith,&nbsp;he reunited with the love of his life Marita 
in heaven on October 2, 2022, leaving a true legacy behind for his 
loving family and numerous friends.

Mitchell Ryan Nollette

Evangeline "Vange" Balik, 80, of McDonald, KS died Tuesday, October 4, 
2022, at Dunaway Manor in Guymon, OK. She was born on January 5, 1942, 
in Imperial, NE to Roger and Teresa (O’Brien) Pflum. She graduated from 
Chase Co. High School in 1960. She attended the University of Nebraska 
at Kearney and graduated with a Physical Education degree in 1964. On 
October 10, 1964, she married Henry Balik. Throughout her life, Vange 
worked hard to take care of her husband and kids while also managing the
 family farm. She enjoyed reading, art, and music. 
Vange was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Steven Balik, and her brother, Jim Pflum. 
She is survived by her daughter, Dina (Travis) Johnson, of Hooker, OK; 
her siblings Patricia Barun, Marilyn Rider, Rosemary Hackett, Rita 
Schroeder and Roger Pflum; six grandchildren; and many nieces and 
nephews. 
Visitation will be 9:00-10:00 a.m. Monday, October 10, 2022, at the 
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atwood with a rosary to follow at 10:00 
a.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 10, 2022, at

Brian Joseph Palen was born on December 6, 1970, to Cyril and DiAnna 
Palen.&nbsp; Brian was an adrenaline junkie from a young age.&nbsp; Whether he was
 running from the city cop on a snowmobile, or racing go-carts with his 
dad cheering him on. Brian loved being ornery and enjoyed doing pranks 
with the neighborhood kids of Tipton.&nbsp; Brian quickly moved from go-carts
 to race cars.&nbsp; He enjoyed working with his crew and loved going fast.&nbsp; 
Brian’s love for speed gave his mother anxiety.&nbsp; Surviving a wreck that 
most people wouldn’t.&nbsp; Once he decided to give up the need for speed, he
 decided to go big.&nbsp; He purchased a Peterbilt and a bull trailer.&nbsp; He 
enjoyed the long hauls and would call Melissa to keep him awake on long 
trips.&nbsp; Brain decided he wanted a change of scenery so he moved to 
Colorado.&nbsp; He was soon blessed with a beautiful daughter, Kaitlyn.&nbsp; 

He 
would always brag he was the only man that could drive an 18-wheeler and
 change a diaper at the same time.&nbsp; Brian loved building cars and 
rebuilt a '69 Camaro which he nicknamed “Purple Passion.”&nbsp; While is 
Colorado Brian’s adrenaline rush continued.&nbsp; He decided to take up bull 
riding.&nbsp; He soon realized riding wasn’t all it was cut out to be.&nbsp; He 
competed with a broken pelvis and ankle.&nbsp; Thank goodness his daughter 
convinced him to retire. After 16 years Brain decided to leave Colorado 
behind. He returned to Osborne to help care for his mother but the truth
 be told DiAnna did the caring for. After returning, Brian rekindled an 
old love with Melissa Hoffman - Lyle. They were wed in a backyard 
ceremony on August 2, 2014. Brain was a skilled leather craftsman and 
enjoyed crafting projects. He ended up turning his hobby into a 
business. Brian also had a love for fishing that he got from his dad and
 mom.

Brian had many jobs through is life from selling computers in Salina,
 rebuilding engines at R and M in Beloit. Brian was also employed with 
Osborne Industry. Brians last job at American Ag and Auto was his 
favorite. He enjoyed his time he got to work with his cousin Mike 
Becker.

Brian and Melissa shared a blended family. They are proud parents of 
Katlyn Lawrence, and Chantell Wessling. Brian was a very proud 
grandfather to Kinsley and Kamryn Lawrence and Kale and Kaden Wessling. 
His face would sparkle when he shared stories about his kids and 
grandkids.

On October 2, 2022, Brian lost his battle to an aggressive cancer that
 was only diagnosed two weeks prior. He fought a hard battle because he 
didn’t want to leave his family.

Brian is proceeded in death by his father Cyril Palen. Brian is 
survived by his wife Melissa Palen of Tipton. His mother DiAnna Palen of
 Osborne. Kaitlyn Lawrence and husband James. Their two girls Kinsley 
and Kamryn of Stephenville, Texas. Chantell Wessling and her husband 
Josh their two boys Kale and Kaden of Beloit, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 
11AM in Tipton at St. Boniface Catholic Church.&nbsp; A rosary service will 
be held at 10:30AM prior to the service.

Longtime, Goodland, KS resident Elaine Georgia Lawson (Sayre), 88, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at the&nbsp;Goodland Reginal Medical Center of Goodland, Kansas.

Elaine was born on April 6, 1934, in&nbsp;Harrison, Nebraska, to Ivy&nbsp;L.&nbsp;and Nora (Milton) Sayre. &nbsp;She attended school at Mitchell High School in 1952.

Elaine married&nbsp;Robert&nbsp;Noah&nbsp;Lawson&nbsp;in Mitchell, Nebraska&nbsp;on July&nbsp;3rd, 1953. To this Union, 3 children were born&nbsp;Cynthia, Christi, and Robert.

In school, she played volleyball and softball. &nbsp;In her adult life, she and Bob loved spending time with her 14 siblings, which included family picnics and events, attending evening concerts in which her twin brother Duane played guitar in a live band. &nbsp;She enjoyed sewing, making clothes for her daughter’s which included making Cindi’s wedding dress, making Christi a prom dress and making outfits later in life for her grandchildren. &nbsp;She enjoyed doing ceramics with Bob and the kids, cooking, and camping with Bob and the kids, bowling, gambling at the casino in South Dakota and Colorado, playing bingo with her family, and most of all she was a loving Mother and Grandmother and a devoted Wife. &nbsp;She was also a member of Eastern Star in Nebraska and the Goodland United Methodist Church.<a></a>

Elaine was&nbsp;preceded&nbsp;in&nbsp;her&nbsp;death&nbsp;by&nbsp;her parents, Ivy and Nora&nbsp;Sayre, her husband Robert Lawson,&nbsp;her In-Laws,&nbsp;her grandson Robert&nbsp;Joseph&nbsp;(R.J.) Elaine Georgia Lawson

Marjorie (Marge) Carol Pfeil was born to Carl and Marion (Montgomery) Pfeil on May 3, 1927, in Wayne, Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In her early education years, Marge attended country school. She
 graduated from O’Neill Public High School in O’Neill, Nebraska on May 
22, 1945.

On September 12, 1945, she married her high school sweetheart, 
Walter Manley. They would get to spend 70 wonderful years together and 
share many adventures throughout that period, starting with Walt’s first
 station at a military hospital in San Francisco, California in May of 
1946.&nbsp; During this time, Marge worked at a bank.&nbsp; A few years later, 
they welcomed their first child, William (Bill) Manley on May 11, 1950, 
in Richmond, California.&nbsp; Not long after, they decided to move back to 
Barneston, Nebraska in March of 1952, to take over the family farm.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Their second child, Marilyn (Manley) Joerg, was born on April 4,
 1953. Through the years, the farm kept them busy while raising turkeys,

keeping up with the farm, the home and their kids’ school and 4-H 
activities, they were still able to enjoy many cherished trips to 
destinations such as Texas, Florida, and the Bahamas following Walt 
getting his pilot license. They spent many years as a part of the Flying
 Conestogas out of Beatrice and loved sharing the memories that were 
made with that group.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Once their kids were grown, they decided to suspend farming 
operations and moved to Fairbury, Nebraska in 1986. Marge started 
working at Walmart in the jewelry department, where she enjoyed her time
 working with coworkers who became dear friends. She and Walt would 
share many memories and trips together with them and their spouses.&nbsp; 
Walt and Marge also enjoyed many hobbies together like dancing and 
traveling thousands of miles across the U.S with their camper on 
seasonal trips to see friends and spend time with family.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Marge was happiest anytime she was with her husband, family or 
friends. Marge always enjoyed various crafts throughout her life such as
 painting ceramics and dolls, designing and decorating doll houses, and 
woodworking.&nbsp; She spent many hours in Walt’s wood shop where she enjoyed
 working alongside him on projects as well as inspecting those projects 
to make sure they were up to her standards. Marge also loved gardening 
and tending to her roses.&nbsp; She is remembered most by her family for her 
quick wit, her loving nature, her love of being the head chef at any 
gathering, and her natural ability to be a “Grandma” to anyone in the 
room.&nbsp;&nbsp; In recent years, Marge was very involved in traveling to 
quilting retreats with her daughter Marilyn and their many friends.&nbsp; 
Marge didn’t take up quilting herself, but she could certainly rip a 
seam, crowning her as the designated seam ripper and the nickname, “The 
Ol’ Rip and Holy Tearer."

Upon her passing, Marge was reunited with her loving husband, 
Walt, as well as her son, Bill, daughter, Marilyn, and grandson, Luke.

Left to cherish her life are her brother, Robert Pfeil of Clear 
Lake, South Dakota; sister, Jackie (Pfeil) Burke of Highmore, South 
Dakota; daughter-in-law, Teri Manley of Littleton, Colorado; grandkids, 
Brock (Kara) Manley of Aurora, Nebraska; Curt (Amy) Staab of Hays, 
Kansas; Julie (Aron) Splichal of Berthoud, Colorado; Megan (Doug) 
Swink-Brown of Overland Park, Kansas; Brittany (Casey) Flax of Cimarron,
 Kansas; great-grandkids, Joey Dowell, Maddison and Annabelle Manley, 
Hannah Hildebrand, Addison and Caden Staab, Evan, Mireya, and Harlow 
Brown, and Paxton Flax; as well as numerous extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, October
 10, 2022, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Fairbury, 
Nebraska.

 </figure>Marjorie (Marge) Carol Pfeil was born to Carl and Marion (Montgomery) Pfeil on May 3, 1927, in Wayne, Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;In her early education years, Marge attended country school. She
 graduated from O’Neill Public High School in O’Neill, Nebraska on May 
22, 1945.On September 12, 1945, she married her high school sweetheart, 
Walter Manley. They would get to spend 70 wonderful years together and 
share many adventures throughout that period, starting with Walt’s first
 station at a military hospital in San Francisco, California in May of 
1946.&nbsp; During this time, Marge worked at a bank.&nbsp; A few years later, 
they welcomed their first child, William (Bill) Manley on May 11, 1950, 
in Richmond, California.&nbsp; Not long after, they decided to move back to 
Barneston, Nebraska in March of 1952, to take over the family farm.&nbsp;&nbsp;Their second child, Marilyn (Manley) Joerg, was born on April 4,
 1953. Through the years, the farm kept them busy while raising turkeys,
 operating a Grade A Dairy operation and raising hogs.&nbsp; In the midst of

Clara Mae Riffel

Marilyn Fern (Lucas) Schmale died at age 92, on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at The Cottages of Garden City. 
 She was born at her Aunt and Uncle’s farm on November 7, 1929, to 
Wesley Wayne Lucas and Mildred (Black) Lucas. Marilyn attended country 
school for her grade school years and during the week while attending 
Sublette High School, she roomed with her brothers, Wes and Jed, at a 
house in town. She returned home on weekends to the family farm in 
Haskell County near Satanta. She was able to pass two grades in one 
year during her country school time, thus she graduated from Sublette 
High School in 1946. She then graduated from Salt City Business School 
in Hutchinson, Kansas. 
 Marilyn enjoyed working as a secretary in Hutchinson and Garden 
City and traveling with girlfriends until 1950 when she caught the 
attention of Frank Schmale. They were married on April 21, 1954, at St.
 James Lutheran Church. Together they were blessed with four children: 
Rikki, Robyn, Rhonda, and Frank Wayne. 
 Marilyn was a devoted wife who supported her husband in his 
businesses; Mobile Electronics, Team Electronics, PermaScreen, and Mobil
 Phone and Communications, and several rental properties. Her 
secretarial and accounting skills were a real asset to Frank. She was 
also a devoted mother, raising children and participating in all their 
many activities. 
 Marilyn was an avid sports fan. She also enjoyed singing for 
several years in the Garden City chapter of Sweet Adeline’s both in the 
chorus and in a quartet along with her sister-in-law, Issie Bonebrake, 
called the Hi-Lows. Golf, shopping, and lunches with friends were high 
on her list of entertainment. 
 Those whom she leaves in her passing and who will miss her most are
 her daughters Rikki (Randy) Rueb of Topeka, Rhonda Stone of Garden 
City, her son Frank W. (Cheryl) Schmale of Garden City; her son-in-law 
Bill Bider of Topeka; her seven grandchildren Megan (Brian) Wehkamp of 
Garden City, Marci (Kevin) Flax of Ellis, Kali (John) Adams of Silver 
Lake, Brandon Rueb (Jake Rundle) of Colorado Springs, Lucas (Erin) Bider
 of Overland Park, Carly (Adley) Davis of Ellis, and Jada (Justin) 
Gemaehlich of Hays. Also, seven great-grandchildren Hayden Wehkamp, 
Derek and Ty Flax, Brielle Adams, Bexley Davis, and Ella and Ava 
Gemaehlich. She will be missed by her brother Wes Lucas; sister Vicki 
(David) Selby; sister-in-law Shirley Lucas; as well as many nephews and 
nieces. 
 She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Frank; her parents 
Wayne and Mildred Lucas; her brothers Ron and Jed Lucas; her daughter 
Robyn Bider; and her son-in-law Steve Stone. 
 Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 
2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Garden City with Pastor Michael 
Hagemann officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in 
Garden City. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday 
at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City, and the family will be at the 
funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. to visit with friends.

Marilyn be given in her name to Lee Richardson Zoo, a favorite

Marilyn Fern (Lucas) Schmale

Sandra Faith (Oswald) Richards was born on May 13, 1946, in Allentown,
 Pennsylvania.  She passed away in Fort Worth, Texas on September 29, 
2022, at the age of 76.

She was the oldest of four girls
 born to Louis A. and Geraldine F. (Bailey) Oswald. She attended Norton 
schools, excelling academically and socially, graduating from NCHS in 
1964.  It was in Norton where she met her husband, Warren Dean Richards.
 Sandra cherished the many lifelong friends they made throughout 
Warren’s long career with JCPenney.

She was an active 
member of Denton Bible Church where she participated in a prayer shawl 
group. They crochet or knit shawls which provide comfort for those who 
are ill. She also felt blessed to serve in other areas of church life. 
She studied God’s Word the last fifteen years with several different 
Bible study groups.

After retiring, Sandra stayed very 
active by volunteering at the neighborhood library at Robson Ranch, 
which only enhanced her love of reading and led to additional 
friendships. She also was a volunteer and a very strong advocate for the
 Woman to Woman Pregnancy Resource Center. She and Warren loved to 
travel and felt blessed to have the opportunity to go on several trips 
with family and friends.

Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Warren.

She
 is survived by her son, Jeff; her daughter and son-in-law, Penny (Paul)
 Seiler; her grandsons and granddaughter-in-law; Corey Fitzner and 
Taylor (Kori) Fitzner; her great-grandson, Harrison Fitzner; her mother,
 Geraldine Packer; three sisters, and their spouses, Karen and Art 
Bates, Sharon and John Hake, Deanna and Roger Braun; one brother-in-law 
and his wife; David and Linda Richards; as well as nieces and nephews.

Visitation
 will be held at Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home, Denton, Texas on
 Tuesday, October 4, 2022, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A graveside 
service will be held in Norton, Kansas, on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at 
10:00 AM, followed by a reception at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Norton, 
Kansas.

While grieving the loss of her presence, we know as a Christian she is healed and eternally home with our Lord.

Sandra Faith (Oswald) Richards

Marilyn Kay Charles passed away on October 2, 2022, in McPherson, 
Kansas. She was born October 23, 1946, at Russell, Kansas, the daughter 
of Emanuel and Elsie Funk. She was a retired teacher.

Marilyn was raised on a farm in a German community in rural Galatia, 
Kansas. She graduated from Fairview Rural Grade school in northern 
Barton County and Otis Rural High School in 1964. She was baptized and 
confirmed, choir member, Luther League member and a Sunday school 
teacher at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Milberger, KS. She went 
to Wichita Business College in 1964 and obtained a Stenographic diploma 
which allowed her to be a secretary for 10 years at Beech and Boeing 
Aircraft, Paine, Webber Brokerage Co. and Barton County Community 
College. While working at Barton County Community College she completed 
an Associate's Degree in general course work. She went on to Kansas 
State University where she worked her way through college and received a
 Bachelor's Degree in Education, with an emphasis in Special Education, 
Mental Retardation. She completed her Education with a Master's Degree 
in Special Education at Fort Hays State.

On May 28, 1983, she married Richard Lynn Charles in Great Bend, 
Kansas. They adopted Cassie at the age of 7 in 1990. Marilyn taught for 
20 years in various locations: Topeka, KS as EMH teacher; in the 
Interrelated Special Education Classroom at USD 428 Great Bend, KS; St. 
Patrick's Elementary Great Bend, KS as a 6th grade teacher; USD 431 
Hoisington, KS for 16 years as a 4th grade teacher. She later went on to
 teach at the Adult Education Department at Barton County Community 
College as an ESOL instructor. She completed her teaching career by 
being an ESOL Director for ESSDACK/Barton Academy, Great Bend, KS.

Marilyn was a member of the Alpha Iota Honorary Business Sorority, 
Phi Theta Kappa Honorary Junior College Fraternity, Big Sisters and Big 
Brothers, Council of Exceptional Children, past president of Central 
Kansas Reading Association. She was an officer of Girl's Aglow Christian
 organization of Topeka, KS and an officer for 20 years in Women's Aglow
 Christian International organization of Great Bend, KS.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend, KS where she
 taught Sunday school for many years, serving on the Educational 
Committee, decorating committee and many other committees. Marilyn loved
 floral decorating, painting, and enjoyed working with plants and 
flowers indoors and outdoors. &nbsp;She thoroughly enjoyed working with and 
helping educate young children and adults.

She is survived by her best friend, Richard Charles of Lindsborg; her
 sister, Joetta Hendrickson of Port Angelas, Washington; her daughter, 
Cassie Koehn and husband Dustin Koehn, and grandchildren Cade, Matthew, 
Tyler, Kylie, Lakyn and Kinzie all of Newton; sister-in-law, Janet Funk 
of Milberger, and nephews Doug, Warren and Deric.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emanuel and Elsie Funk and brother, Wayne Funk.

There will be a Graveside Service at Milberger Cemetery, Milberger, 
Kansas, on Tuesday October 11th at 11am followed by a lunch at the 
church. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.

Milberger, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, PO Box 146,

Mental Retardation. She completed her Education with a Master's Degree 
in Special Education at Fort Hays State.On May 28, 1983, she married Richard Lynn Charles in Great Bend, 
Kansas. They adopted Cassie at the age of 7 in 1990. Marilyn taught for 
20 years in various locations: Topeka, KS as EMH teacher; in the 
Interrelated Special Education Classroom at USD 428 Great Bend, KS; St. 
Patrick's Elementary Great Bend, KS as a 6th grade teacher; USD 431 
Hoisington, KS for 16 years as a 4th grade teacher. She later went on to
 teach at the Adult Education Department at Barton County Community 
College as an ESOL instructor. She completed her teaching career by 
being an ESOL Director for ESSDACK/Barton Academy, Great Bend, KS.Marilyn was a member of the Alpha Iota Honorary Business Sorority, 
Phi Theta Kappa Honorary Junior College Fraternity, Big Sisters and Big 
Brothers, Council of Exceptional Children, past president of Central 
Kansas Reading Association. She was an officer of Girl's Aglow Christian
 organization of Topeka, KS and an officer for 20 years in Women's Aglow
 Christian International organization of Great Bend, KS.She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend, KS where she
 taught Sunday school for many years, serving on the Educational 
Committee, decorating committee and many other committees. Marilyn loved
 floral decorating, painting, and enjoyed working with plants and 
flowers indoors and outdoors. &nbsp;She thoroughly enjoyed working with and 
helping educate young children and adults.She is survived by her best friend, Richard Charles of Lindsborg; her
 sister, Joetta Hendrickson of Port Angelas, Washington; her daughter, 
Cassie Koehn and husband Dustin Koehn, and grandchildren Cade, Matthew, 
Tyler, Kylie, Lakyn and Kinzie all of Newton; sister-in-law, Janet Funk 
of Milberger, and nephews Doug, Warren and Deric.She was preceded in death by her parents, Emanuel and Elsie Funk and brother, Wayne Funk.There will be a Graveside Service at Milberger Cemetery, Milberger, 
Kansas, on Tuesday October 11th at 11am followed by a lunch at the 
church. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.

Wayne Eldon Bosler

Our father John Henry Schruben passed away peacefully at a hospice 
in Maryland on Sept. 30, 2022.   He was 96 years old, and the last of 
his generation in our large family.

He was born in 
Stockton, Kansas, on January 19, 1926, the fourth child of Leonard John 
Schruben and Edna Mary (McKanna) Schruben.  He was preceded in death by 
his parents and siblings Margaret (Sr. Bernard Marie, Sisters of St. 
Joseph), Leo, and Katherine (Becker).  Also preceding him in death were 
his wife of 58 years, Christine Frances (Copt) Schruben, and two 
grandchildren Tucker and Alana.  He is survived by his children, 
Phillip, Mary, Paul, Jeffrey, Mark, Thomas, Peter and Emily and their 
spouses, children, grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. John is 
also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the Schruben, 
Becker, McKanna, Copt, and DeBauge families.

John 
attended public schools in Kansas, graduating from Stockton High School 
in May 1943.  He served in the United Stated Army from September 1943, 
to March 1946, and is a World War II Veteran. During his Army service he
 was enrolled for one year in an Army Engineering training program at 
Iowa State University. After his initial engineering training, he was 
sent to the European theater in Nov. 1944, where he served on active 
duty in England, France, and Germany.

After his Army 
service, John returned to Kansas, enrolled at Kansas State University in
 Manhattan in May 1946, graduating in May 1948, with a Bachelor of 
Science Degree in Architectural Engineering. He later pursued graduate 
studies in engineering, receiving an M.S. in Civil Engineering from 
Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago in 1953.

John
 and Christine married in Osage City, Kansas on July 22, 1948. They 
moved to Whiting, Indiana, where John became an architectural engineer 
with Standard Oil of Indiana, where he was employed until 1955. Upon 
joining the Skidmore, Owings and Merrill architecture firm in Chicago, 
Illinois, our growing family moved to Harvey, Illinois, and then 
Flossmoor, Illinois.

In 1969, John founded an 
architectural services firm, PSAE MasterSpec, under the auspices of the 
American Institute of Architects.  John and Christine, along with four 
of their children moved from Illinois to Rockville, Maryland in Sept. 
1972.  John joined the AIA as a member in 1958 and was named a Fellow in
 1972.  Following his retirement from the AIA in 1987, the State 
Department asked him to develop specification systems for American 
embassies. He retired from the profession of architecture in 1989 to 
devote his time and energy to diverse woodworking projects and caring 
for Christine.

Along the way, over his long and 
productive life, he designed and built everything from tools, puzzles, 
games, toys, gizmos, homes, and lots of furniture of his own design and 
restorations of many antiques.  Woodworking was his enduring passion and
 joy.  Many family members and friends received from John drawings and 
building expertise for home additions, remodels, do-overs, etc.

We
 want to express our deepest gratitude to our brother Jeffrey Schruben 
for his diligent and loving care of both our parents during their final 
years, and also to those living nearby, Paul, Thomas, and Ann, for their
 companionship, care, and comfort.

Mass of Christian 
Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at St. 
Thomas Catholic Church, followed by burial at St. Thomas Cemetery in 
Stockton. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Vigil

Ramona Geralda Cook, 61, of Russell, KS died on October 3, 2022,&nbsp; after a long and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family. Ramona was born on 07/22/1961 in McCook, NE to Raymond and Bernadine Ritter. She grew up in Oberlin, KS and was the 2nd&nbsp;oldest of 5 girls. Ramona graduated Oberlin High School in 1979. She went on to college at Fort Hays State University and graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in Education (Go Tigers!)&nbsp;

She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Gregory L. Cook on May 28, 1983, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oberlin, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;From this union they were blessed with 4 children, Audra and Timothy (twins), Matthew and Michael. &nbsp;

Ramona taught school at USD 407 for 25 years from 1983-2008. She then went on to help her son Tim, at the A&amp;W restaurant for a couple years before fully committing to Cooks Home and Auto- adding appliances, furniture, hardware and many other amazing items. Ramona and Greg purchased the store in 2004 and have owned and operated it ever since. &nbsp;

Ramona loved loading up the Astro mini van and taking the entire family on vacations. She enjoyed attending and never missed one of her kids’ recognitions, dance recitals, sporting events or special moments in their lives. She loved going to Chiefs games and when she couldn’t attend, she would watch them on tv. She was also a huge FHSU athletics fan! Ramona was blessed with two grandkids and loved spending time with them. Most recently, Ramona and Greg enjoyed travelling to shows to add new items to the store. She loved her Delta Mu family and was a proud member of St. Mary’s Queen of Angels Catholic -Church in Russell.&nbsp;

Ramona is survived by her spouse, Greg Cook (Russell), 4 children, Audra Henne (Lance Henne) of Wichita, KS, Timothy Cook (Jason Morford) of Russell, KS, Matthew Cook (Kathleen Cook) of Hays, KS and Michael Cook ( Paige Mendicina) of Russell, KS. She is survived by all 4 sisters, Marie Bloss (Jim Bloss) of McKinney, TX, Delores Healey (Grant Jaquith) of Topeka, KS, Rose Marconette (Sean Marconette) of Edwardsville, KS and Cathy Ritter of McKinney, TX. Patricia Anne Pierce, daughter of Henry F. (III) and Edith L. (Campbell) Pierce was born on April 2, 1946, in Kansas City, MO. Her death occurred Sept. 19, 2022, at Meadowbrook Rehabilitation Hospital, Gardner at the age of 76. 

Patricia lived her early life in Hays, KS. On Nov. 18, 1964, she was united in marriage to Henry Mason Sellers at Hays. This union was blessed with three children: Margaret, Christine and Katherine. Patricia occupied her life with the many activities of a homemaker, housewife, mother and grandmother. She made a family home in several communities in Kansas while traveling with her family until 1987 when Henry and Patricia moved to Manhattan, KS, until 2002 when Patricia moved to Russell, KS and then 2019 when she moved to Gardner, KS to live out her life.&nbsp;

She enjoyed playing the piano for her children and grandchildren and having holidays with family. She also enjoyed researching family genealogy and creating a variety of food dishes. She played the piano for musical productions in Singapore and Manhattan, KS. She was a member of the Episcopal Church.&nbsp;

Those who preceded her in death were parents, Henry F. (III) and (Edith) Lorraine Pierce and two great-granddaughters, Meredith and Macy. Survivors are Henry Sellers of Russell, KS, daughters: Margaret Sellers of Kansas City, MO, Christine Sellers and Katherine Sellers of Russell, KS. Also surviving are her granddaughters: Angela (Miller) Meyer and husband, Patrick of Adrian, MO, Jamie Crawford of St. John, KS, Randi Steinle of Yukon, OK, and Chandler (Reich) Sellens and husband, Jacob Sellens of Russell, KS, Great-grandchildren: Edwin, Porter, Veda, Reese and Adler. Brother, Henry F. Pierce (IIII) and wife Mary Lynn of Ohio, sister Mary Beth Sayre, and husband Larry of Texas, and a number of other relatives.

Friends and acquaintances of <a href="https://hayspost.com/posts/991fa8c0-ac00-4848-be67-c30aa7e024a8">Russ Clark</a> are invited to attend a casual reception from 9 a.m. to noon at the Strand, 1102 Main.

Clark's family decided the Strand was a fitting location because he opened The Village Shop in that location with Don Volker in 1963.

Clark worked at his business for 27 years before retiring in 1990.

He died in December of 2020 at the age of 96 years. <a href="https://hayspost.com/posts/991fa8c0-ac00-4848-be67-c30aa7e024a8">Because that was in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, his family decided to wait until a later time for people to gather safely in his honor.</a>

Blas Rodriguez Sr., age 67, passed away on 
September 30, 2022, at the Sky Ridge Medical Center in Lone Tree, 
Colorado.&nbsp; He was born on February 3, 1955, in Satevo, Chihuahua, Mexico,
 the son of Nicolas and Petra Alvidrez Rodriguez.&nbsp; A resident of Scott 
City, Kansas, since 1991, he was a retired mill operator and feed truck 
driver for Poky Feeders in Scott City, Kansas.

He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City, Kansas.

On October 13, 1984, he married Graciela Armendariz in Satevo, Chihuahua, Mexico.&nbsp; She survives.

Survivors include his Wife - Graciela Rodriguez of Scott City, 
Kansas, Three Sons - Blas Jr. &amp; Claudia Rodriguez of Scott City, 
Kansas, Noe &amp; Yuri Rodriguez of Scott City, Kansas, Carlos &amp;

Kenneth
 LeRoy Michaelis died 24 of August 2022 in Yelm, Thurston County, 
Washington, at the home of his daughter, Dawn Faber. Ken was born in the
 hospital, the 1st of July 1944 in Hoisington, Barton County, Kansas, 
the loving son of Ruben Michaelis and Katherine Sophia Miller. Ken grew 
up on a farm Northeast of Susank, Kansas and started taking accordion 
lessons at a young age. When he was 8 years old he played in the popular
 Eddie Basgall Band to help supplement his family's income.

Ken
 joined the United States Army in 1962 where he was a member of the 5th 
Army Band located near Chicago. After his years in the Army Ken became a
 professional musician, arranger and&nbsp; composer. Ken performed and 
arranged music for Eddie Basgall, Tony Albert, Red Skelton, Bob Hope, 
Kenny Rogers, Olivia Newton-John, and many more big names in the Country
 Music industry. He lived in Branson, Missouri, on and off for about 30 
years, where he worked with the Cajun Connection at Silver Dollar City, 
Shoji Tabuchi, The Osmond Brothers and most recently Lee Roy Van Dyke. 
Ken won several music awards during his career in Branson:&nbsp; Entertainer 
of the year and also Keyboard player of the year.

Ken
 had survived his parents and siblings: Ella Mae Bender- Bushell, 
Victoria Bernice Ehrlich and Clifford Dean Michaelis. Ken leaves behind 
two daughters: Dawn Faber of Yelm, Washington, and Jackie Maxfield of 
Salt Lake City, Utah, and 12 grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held 14th of October at 4pm at the Hoisington Cemetery.

Loretta Marie Maske, 79, died on Friday, September 30, 2022, at the Main Street Manor in Russell, Kansas.

Loretta was born on May 26, 1943, in Hoxie, Kansas, the daughter of 
Martin and Josephine (Jegen) Bieker.&nbsp; She grew up in Hoxie and graduated
 from Hoxie High School.&nbsp; She met, fell in love and was united in 
marriage to William J. Maske on July 13, 1963, in Grainfield, Kansas.&nbsp; 
From this union they were blessed with 3 children, sons Kevin and Terry 
and a daughter Tracey.&nbsp;

She lived her entire life in Kansas living in Sharon Springs, 
Lindsborg, Salina, Fairport and has lived in Russell, Kansas, for 20 
years.&nbsp; She received nursing and EMT training and worked as a Licensed 
Practical Nurse.&nbsp; She was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church 
in Russell.&nbsp; She enjoyed gardening and took pride in and worked hard 
maintaining a beautiful yard.&nbsp; She also enjoyed shopping, going to 
garage sales and thrift stores and watching Jayhawk basketball, Chiefs 
football and Royals baseball.&nbsp; Most of all she enjoyed spending time 
with her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great 
grandchildren.

Surviving family include her sons Kevin Maske and Terry Maske both of
 Grand Island, Nebraska; daughter Tracey Nabity and husband Phillip of 
Casper, Wyoming; brother Lawrence Bieker of Hoxie, Kansas; 5 
grandchildren Reece Peters, P.J. Nabity, Nathan and Justin Salpas and 
Sha’nera Maske and one great grandson Arthur Aaron Salpas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband William on October 
13, 2017, brother LaVern Bieker and granddaughter Dariawna Maske.

A celebration of the funeral mass for Loretta’s life will be held at 
11 A.M on Thursday, October 06, 2022, at the St. Mary Queen of Angels 
Catholic Church in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the St. Mary 
Catholic Cemetery in Russell.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 7 P.M. 
on Wednesday, October 05, 2022, with family greeting guests from 6 P.M. 
to 7 P.M. Wednesday evening at the mortuary.&nbsp;

Loretta Marie Maske

Dorlene Elsa Radke Steele went to meet her heavenly father on Sept 
29, 2022. She was born September 24, 1925, in Milberger, Russell County, 
Kansas, to William Fredrick Radke and Ida Magdalena Karst Radke.

As a child, Dorlene attended a one room country school house in 
Milberger, Kansas. She graduated from Salt City Business College, 
Hutchinson, Kansas, in 1945 with Honors. Dorlene married William Lenard 
Steele on January 16, 1946, in Russell, Kansas, he preceded her in death 
on January 19, 1993. Dorlene worked for Dr. EC Elfert in Hutchinson, 
Kansas before moving to Dodge City, in 1955, where she worked for Dr. WJ
 Holman for 33 years until his retirement. She then worked for Dr. Glen 
Mitchell until her retirement in 2001. Dorlene worked as a dental 
receptionist and chair side assistant for a total of 53 years, she loved
 her work. Family was extremely important to her, one of her most 
valuable gifts was her ability to make each and every one of her 
children, grandchildren and great grandchildren feel so loved. She was a
 beautiful woman inside and out and had a lot of class, style, grace and
 a contagious smile.

As an infant, Dorlene was baptized in the Lutheran Faith and 
confirmed in 1940 by Rev. Gemelich of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in 
Milberger, Kansas. She was a member of the Social Order of Beauceant and
 a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 97, Dorlene received 
her 25-year membership pin in 2013. Dorlene was a member of SKAVI, 
Southwest Kansas Association of the Visually Impaired.

Dorlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers; 
Harvey E. Radke, Marvin L. Radke,sister; Lorene (Radke) Kahler and one 
grandson, William J. Steele.

Dorlene is survived by her four children; Cyrilla Petracek of 
Emporia, Kansas, Patricia Trotter of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, William 
Steele and wife Pam of Nixa, Missouri, Roxanne Beck and husband Pat, 
Dodge City, Kansas, 9 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 5 
great-great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Saturday 
October&nbsp; 8, 2022, at 10:00 AM with Mr. Ken Winter and Mr. Kurt Lampe 
presiding. Entombment will follow at Scroggins Memorial Mausoleum in 
Dodge City. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Friday, 
October 7, 2022, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the family receiving 
friends from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the funeral home.

Freda McMillan, 92, died on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at her home in 
Garden City. She was born on August 20, 1930, in Trego County, the 
daughter of John Henry &amp; Lena (Knaus) Mai. She married Ted McMillan
 on August 31, 1949, at Raton, New Mexico. He died on June 15, 2018. 
Freda moved with her family to Finney County in 1945 where she attended 
Garden City High School. She and her husband farmed in Southern Finney 
County. She was a member of the Plymell Union Church where she was 
involved with the bible study group, taught Sunday School, worked in the
 kitchen on church events and took care of the church rose garden. She 
enjoyed her flowers and cooking and was well known for her coconut pies. 
She is survived by her Daughter- Kathy &amp; Dan Kraus, 3 Sons- Danny 
McMillan, Rod &amp; Sharon McMillan and Randy &amp; Shelle McMillan all 
of Garden City, Sister- Esther Krug of Garden City, 17 Grandchildren and
 24 Great-Grandchildren with 2 on the way. She was preceded in death by
 her Parents, Husband, Daughter-In-Law- Nancy McMillan, Brother- Emil 
Mai and 2 Sisters- Ruth Burdick and Lydia Schweer.

Freda McMillan

Lois Mary Bryant, 87, passed away on September 30, 2022, at the 
Sheridan County Health Complex in Hoxie with her family by her side.  
She was born on December 28, 1934, in Griffith, Indiana, to Adolph and 
Naomi (Sampson) Penning.

Lois grew up in Griffith, Indiana, and 
graduated from Griffith High School in 1952.  After high school she 
attended Manchester University in Indiana.  She then moved to Denver and
 met John Bryant at church.  The two then got married on April 26, 1958,&nbsp; in Griffith, Indiana.  To this union they had two daughters: Susan and 
Patricia.  When the girls were very young, they moved to Quinter and 
then to Oberlin where they bought a farm.  Lois loved to help on the 
farm. She would drive the trucks, feed the cows, and even just sit in 
the pickup with her daughters to just watch the cows and count them.

Lois
 also had a passion for sewing, bowling, knitting, quilting, and 
crocheting.  She made her wedding dress and all the dresses for the 
bridesmaids.  She also made all the girl’s clothes all the way up to 6th
 grade.  If she wasn’t knitting something you could find her 
scrapbooking, reading, doing puzzles, or watching movies and TV.  Lois 
loved to travel.  Especially on bus tours.  Lois even went on an Alaskan
 Cruise (twice).  Most of all Lois loved to be around her family, 
especially her grandkids.  In the summer she would take them to the pool
 for swimming lessons or to just swim.  She would teach them how to cook
 and sew.

Lois is survived by her daughters: Susan Lubang and 
Patricia (Barry) Richards; grandchildren: Curtis (Amanda) Richards, 
Bryan Richards, Jonathon (Amanda) Richards, Andrew (Brooklyn) Richards, 
Rebecca (Clive) Cook, and Jennifer Lubang; great grandchildren: Alex, 
Sophia, Ellie, Trent, Holly, Brylee, Hadley, and Oakleigh; sister: Karen
 Martinez.  She was preceded by her parents; husband: John Bryant; 
sisters: Evelyn Grimm and Miriam Jensen.

Funeral services will be 
held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Lund Covenant Church at 11:00 AM.  
Visitation will be from 12:00 PM – 7:00 PM Friday, October 7, 2022, at 
Pauls Funeral Home, Oberlin, KS.  Burial will be in Oberlin Cemetery at 
1:30 PM.

Elaine Georgia (Sayre) Lawson

Donna Lou Ellyn (Pepper) Elder, 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City following a brief illness. 
Donna Lou, or “Nonny” as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren, was born May 15, 1938, in Lakin, Kan., to Don and Vera Pepper. 
On Nov. 22, 1959, she married the love of her life Pat Elder in Johnson. He preceded her in death on April 29, 1995. Donna and Pat raised three daughters, Lynn, Lori and Lona. &nbsp;Donna Lou was a graduate of Fort Hays State College and taught elementary school for 49 years, all but one of those years in the Leoti school district. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of 
Leoti. 
She was a tremendous sports fan, especially KU basketball and all Big 12 football and basketball. She often told stories about working as a scorekeeper during Leoti 
basketball games. She enjoyed cross-stitching and all hand crafts, but 
her greatest joy was her family. 
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Lori Christensen; two brothers, LaVere Pepper and Weyland Pepper; and a nephew, Allyn Pepper. &nbsp;Survivors include her daughter Lynn Blau and husband Stan of Leoti; her daughter Lona DuVall of Garden City; a son-in-law, Leif Christensen of Leoti; a brother, Clifford Pepper of Liberal; five grandchildren, Adam Blau and wife Mel of Scott City, Hunter Carson and wife Rachel of Garden City, Lars Christensen of Anthony, Kan., Leighlyn Shifflett and husband Reagan of Hinesville, Ga., and Abigayle Blau of Hays; and four great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Blau, Maverick Shifflett, Garrett Shifflett, and Easton Shifflett. 
Cremation was chosen. There will be no visitation. Garnand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 </figure>Donna Lou Ellyn (Pepper) Elder, 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City following a brief illness. 
Donna Lou, or “Nonny” as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren, was born May 15, 1938, in Lakin, Kan., to Don and Vera Pepper. 
On Nov. 22, 1959, she married the love of her life Pat Elder in Johnson. He preceded her in death on April 29, 1995. Donna and Pat raised three daughters, Lynn, Lori and Lona. &nbsp;Donna Lou was a graduate of Fort Hays State College and taught elementary school for 49 years, all but one of those years in the Leoti school district. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of 
Leoti. 
She was a tremendous sports fan, especially KU basketball and all Big 12 football and basketball. She often told stories about working as a scorekeeper during Leoti 
basketball games. She enjoyed cross-stitching and all hand crafts, but 
her greatest joy was her family.
