Margaret Ann Gassmann Bruggeman lived 81 years until her death on the 25th day of February 2023. She was welcomed to life in the family home by her parents Joseph Gassmann and wife Germaine&nbsp;Krutezer&nbsp;Gassmann on the 31st day of July 1941 and they were there to welcome her into eternal life along with her siblings; Conrad Gassmann, Pius Gassmann, Julius Gassmann, Rupert “Bob” Gassmann, Alice (Gassmann) Wagoner, Josephine Gassmann, Agnes (Gassmann)&nbsp;Bollig, Joseph Gassmann, and Henry Gassmann.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A lifelong resident of Kansas, Margaret was a skilled seamstress who enjoyed gardening and cooking. She wore out more than one car as an Avon Lady.&nbsp; She was a dietitian at Decatur County Hospital and spent her&nbsp;latter&nbsp;years working for Wal-Mart in McPherson.&nbsp; Loved by her grandchildren and adored by her great-grandchildren she lived to see the joy on their faces - or rather she lived for the joy they brought to hers.

Margaret is survived by her three children; Dennis and wife Carmen Bruggeman of&nbsp;Assaria, KS, Thomas, and wife Maureen Bruggeman of Selden, KS, and Bernadette and husband Chuck Sanders of Wichita, KS, eight grandchildren; Lacey, Clay,&nbsp;Raeschele, Jarred, Kalinda, Kayla, Chase and Brooke, seven great-grandchildren;&nbsp;Rhieleigh,&nbsp;Braelynne, Charles “Luke," Phoenix, Jaxon, Bonnie, and Vanessa, as well as Margaret’s remaining siblings; Clementine, Delores, and Martin.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 6th, 2023, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in&nbsp;Grainfield, with inurnment to follow in&nbsp;Grainfield&nbsp;City Cemetery. Her family will receive friends the evening prior from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in the church’s Education Center with a Rosary to begin at 6:00 p.m.

Barbara Martina Howard, age 89, of Oakley, KS passed away Friday, 
February 24, 2023, at Logan County Senior Living, Oakley.&nbsp; She was born 
September 17, 1933, in Quinter, KS to Martin and Matilda (Herman) Rohr.&nbsp;
 She was raised on a farm south of Quinter with her 10 siblings.&nbsp;

Barbara was united in marriage to Kenneth Howard at Sacred Heart 
Catholic Church in a double wedding with her sister, Amelia (Rohr), and 
Delano Schwindt on August 25, 1952. Barbara and Kenneth were married 63 
years before Kenneth’s passing in 2016.

Barbara was known far and wide for her wonderful baked goods. Her 
pies and sticky buns were divine.&nbsp; If she wasn’t baking, she was in her 
garden tending to the most thriving plants.&nbsp; She enjoyed canning her 
garden’s produce and sharing her canned goods with family and friends.

Barbara was the owner and operator of Barb’s Café in Gove, KS for 
many years.&nbsp; During some of these years, she also operated the Café in 
Grainfield, KS. There were many special times spent with her 
Granddaughters helping to run these cafes. In Barbara’s later years, she
 would comment that she wished she could go back to work cooking in a 
café.

When Barbara did have some free time, she loved to go fishing.&nbsp; Her 
ability to catch the biggest fish and then fry it up perfectly was 
amazing.&nbsp; She enjoyed time spent on fishing trips with her Grandson’s 
and their families.&nbsp;

Barbara had amazing talents and work ethic; however, her most 
treasured gift was her family.&nbsp; She loved her husband and her children 
and their accomplishments.&nbsp; She cherished her grandchildren and 
great-grandchildren without measure. There was never a time you couldn’t
 find a drawing or painting from one of her grandkids hung on the wall 
or new school pictures proudly displayed.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her two sons, Ted (Darcy) Howard of 
Oakley and John (Linda) Howard of WaKeeney; a daughter, Colette 
(Richard) Weimer of Englewood, FL; daughter-in-law, Melinda Howard of 
Quinter, KS; fourteen grandchildren, Amy Gibson of Grainfield, Amanda 
(Jerry) Gallentine of Grainfield, JD Draper of Oakley, Ron (Whitney) 
Nieman of Colwich, Denny (Traci) Nieman of Gem, Mindy (Parker) 
Christensen of Rexford, Julie (Warren) Ziegelmeier of Gem, Greg (Ericka)
 Nieman of Edmond, Oklahoma, Johnny (Jessica) Howard of WaKeeney, Jay 
Dee Howard of WaKeeney, Dewey (Amy) Howard of WaKeeney, and Cody Howard 
of WaKeeney, Tracy (Jessica) Buchholz of Ogallah, and Scott Buchholz of 
Englewood, FL; thirty-four great-grandchildren; a brother, Frank Rohr; 
sisters, Amelia Schwindt, Elnora Kuehler, Esther Walker, and Martina 
(Paul) Stanton, many nieces and nephews; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Fred Howard; 
son-in-law, Dennis Buchholz; two grandsons, Travis Eugene Howard and 
Kenneth John Howard; granddaughter, Dr. Kristy Booker; three brothers, 
Wendelin, Edward, and Walter; and two sisters, Helen Zerr and Florena 
Heili.

Funeral services will be held at Schmitt Funeral Home in WaKeeney, 
KS, on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at 10:30 am.&nbsp; Visitation will be held 
from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to the service. Burial will follow at Christ
 the King Cemetery, WaKeeney, KS.&nbsp;

Barbara Martina Howard

Betty Lou Amos (Stevenson) Payne, 87, went home to be with her Lord and 
Savior Jesus Christ on February 24, 2023. She was born November 5, 1935,
 to Edwin and Louetta Amos in Stilwell, KS. 
On July 30, 1954, Betty married Jack W Stevenson and went on to have 
five children. She remarried on April 1, 1989, to Hanford “Hank” Payne. 
Betty grew up in Independence, MO, and graduated high school with a 
class of 400+ students. She met Jack through his cousin Mae Stevenson. 
They made his parents’ farm south of Oakley their home and raised 
their kids there. Betty enjoyed working in retail clothing. In her 
younger years, she worked at Sears in Kansas City. After her youngest 
child started school, she worked at the Silhouette Shoppe in Oakley for 
10 years. In 1982 she moved back to Independence, MO, and worked 
different jobs until marrying Hank. They moved to Cotter, AR, and 
enjoyed their retirement by fishing in the White river just below their 
house. In 2000 they moved back to Blue Springs, MO, to be closer to 
family and Betty took a part-time job at Walmart, working in the 
clothing section, that she enjoyed. In 2013, Betty and Hank moved to 
Oakley to be closer to her family. She so loved seeing and spending 
time with her children and grandchildren. 
Betty enjoyed her farm animals including chickens, cats and dogs of 
which she raised registered German Shepherds. But her most prized 
possessions were always her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She 
is cherished and loved by her children and will always be remembered as a
 wonderful and amazing mother. 
Betty was predeceased by parents, Edwin and Louetta; husband, Hank; her 
ex-husband, Jack; twin siblings, Laura Clara Perry and Loren Clarence 
Amos. She is survived by sister, Dorothy Carl of Dadeville, MO; 
children, Paula (Phil) Beesley of Gove, KS, Monte (Rita) Stevenson of 
Golden, CO, Lee (Sandra) Stevenson, Longmont, CO, Susan Stevenson of 
Wichita, KS, and Todd (Karen) Stevenson of Oakley, KS; 20 grandchildren

Kelly spent her childhood in Garden City, where she attended school.&nbsp; On May 29, 1982, she married Bruce Long in Garden City.&nbsp; The couple made their home first in Sublette and later in Satanta.&nbsp; Kelly owned several businesses, including the Satanta Drive-In and the Pizza Shack.&nbsp; She also was a massage therapist for many years.&nbsp; Kelly enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Ed 
Phillips of Satanta; three children, Lisa Wood and husband Justin of 
Meade, Brandon Long and wife Maggie of Alton, and Megan Day and husband

Kelly Colleen Long

Violet Lorraine (Spiers) Shaw was born on July 15, 1932, in rural 
Decatur County, Kansas, to Frank and Thelma (Clawson) Spiers. She passed 
February 26, 2023, at Decatur Health Systems in Oberlin, Kansas, at the 
age of 90.

Violet was the first of three children in her family. 
She attended District 47 country school in Center Township for eight 
years, and then started at Oberlin City School. She was delighted to go 
as she could learn to read and write. In 1949 she graduated from Decatur
 Community High School at the age of 16.

On August 12, 1950, 
Violet married her high school sweetheart, Ralph Shaw at the Oberlin 
United Methodist Church. Two boys were born to this union, Richard and 
Joel whom they were very proud of.

From an early age, Violet’s 
passion to read led her to become a teacher and librarian. In 1961 at 
the age of 28, Violet started her college career at Fort Hays State 
University. She graduated in 1964 with an A.B. Major English Graduate 
work in Library Science at Colorado State University, Kansas University,
 and earned Media Specialist at Fort Hays State University. She began 
her teaching career at Norcatur High School, then Decatur Community High
 School, McCook, NE High School, Widefield High School in Colorado, and 
finally back to Decatur Community High School. Her biggest challenge was
 to transfer the DCHS library from card catalog onto the complex 
computer entry system. Violet can be recognized for many other 
achievements as well, including having several articles published, in 
Farm Journal, one in The Good Old Days, and another in School Library 
Journal.

After retiring in 1995, Violet enjoyed growing big 
vegetable gardens, and canning and freezing their bountiful harvest.  
Violet especially enjoyed growing different varieties of roses. Her 
greatest love was to cook and bake for her family and friends, as there 
was always a spread of wonderful food.  You could always count on Violet
 to say, “there is plenty, please go back for more!”

Violet was a 
member of the United Methodist Church, served as President of UWM for 
four years, and coordinated funeral dinners at the church for several 
years. Violet’s greatest legacy was that of her faith in Christ, and the
 Lord helped her to instill this same faith not only in her children, 
but also her grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

survived by son and wife, Joel and Tami Shaw; daughter-in-law Anna Shaw;

grandchildren, Isaac, Henry and Annabella Harshman; one sister, Joan 
Grafel; one brother and wife, Ben and Leone Spiers.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ralph Shaw; son Richard Shaw; grandson Isaac Shaw.

 </figure>Violet Lorraine (Spiers) Shaw was born on July 15, 1932, in rural 
Decatur County, Kansas, to Frank and Thelma (Clawson) Spiers. She passed 
February 26, 2023, at Decatur Health Systems in Oberlin, Kansas, at the 
age of 90.Violet was the first of three children in her family. 
She attended District 47 country school in Center Township for eight 
years, and then started at Oberlin City School. She was delighted to go 
as she could learn to read and write. In 1949 she graduated from Decatur
 Community High School at the age of 16.On August 12, 1950, 
Violet married her high school sweetheart, Ralph Shaw at the Oberlin 
United Methodist Church. Two boys were born to this union, Richard and 
Joel whom they were very proud of.From an early age, Violet’s 
passion to read led her to become a teacher and librarian. In 1961 at 
the age of 28, Violet started her college career at Fort Hays State 
University. She graduated in 1964 with an A.B. Major English Graduate 
work in Library Science at Colorado State University, Kansas University,
 and earned Media Specialist at Fort Hays State University. She began 
her teaching career at Norcatur High School, then Decatur Community High
 School, McCook, NE High School, Widefield High School in Colorado, and 
finally back to Decatur Community High School. Her biggest challenge was
 to transfer the DCHS library from card catalog onto the complex 
computer entry system. Violet can be recognized for many other 
achievements as well, including having several articles published, in 
Farm Journal, one in The Good Old Days, and another in School Library 
Journal.After retiring in 1995, Violet enjoyed growing big 
vegetable gardens, and canning and freezing their bountiful harvest. 
Violet especially enjoyed growing different varieties of roses. Her 
greatest love was to cook and bake for her family and friends, as there 
was always a spread of wonderful food. You could always count on Violet
 to say, “there is plenty, please go back for more!”Violet was a 
member of the United Methodist Church, served as President of UWM for 
four years, and coordinated funeral dinners at the church for several 
years. Violet’s greatest legacy was that of her faith in Christ, and the
 Lord helped her to instill this same faith not only in her children, 
but also her grandchildren, and great grandchildren.Violet is 
survived by son and wife, Joel and Tami Shaw; daughter-in-law Anna Shaw;
 grandsons, Zach Shaw and Dante Robertson and wife Jasmine;

Bonnie J. Mathes

Alice Jeanette Deines, 83, passed away on February 24, 2023, at 
Brookdale Assisted Living, Brighton, Colo. She was born on December 21, 
1939, in Newark, Ohio, to Carl and Victoria (Grove) Clark. On February 
15, 1969, she married Herman Franklin Deines II in Galatia, Kansas. He 
passed on November 15, 2006.

A longtime area resident, Alice worked as a women’s apparel 
associate at J.C. Penney for over twenty years. She was a member of St. 
Paul Lutheran Church. In her younger years, she participated in roller 
skating competitions – a fact of which she gladly shared with family and
 friends.

Survivors include two sons, Frank (Shannon) Deines, III of Great 
Bend, Kan., and Derek (Rachel) Deines of Firestone, Colo.; three 
daughters, Kym Moore of Zanesville, Ohio, Sheryl Stickler of Great Bend,
 Kan., Tammy (Terry) DiManna of Brighton, Colo.; twelve grandchildren, 
Travis Ryan, Julian and Austin Moore, Jordan and Jakob Stickler, Lexi, 
Kaden and Jace Deines, Harley and Paisley Deines, Nicholas and Dominique
 DiManna; three great grandchildren; four half-brothers, Terry, David, 
Randall and Steve Clark; and a half sister, Becky Martin. She is 
preceded in death by her husband; a son, Scott Edward Deines; her 
parents; stepfather, Julius Barnes; stepmother, Betty Wagner; and 
half-brother, Dave Clark.

Visitation will take place from noon to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 
2023, at Bryant Funeral Home with the family receiving guests from 5:00 
p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, 
March 3, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home with Rhonda Temple, S.A.M, 
presiding. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Galatia, KS.

Peggy Arlene Beckham Strahm was born on March 20th, 1937, to Herman 
Dock Beckham and Hattie Lera Sloan Beckham on their family farm in 
Manor,Texas and died on Friday, February 24th, 2023, at the Osborne County 
Memorial Hospital.

Being the youngest of four children
 she loved the responsibilities she shared with her siblings when it 
came to tending the cotton fields, milking the cows, and caring for 
their huge garden.  Peggy graduated from Pflugerville High School May of
 1955 and went on to attend Nixon Clay Business School.  She worked for 
the controllers office for one year.  Peggy decided that joining the 
Army was a good fit for her and served 18 months at Fort McClellan, 
Alabama, and Fort Hood, Texas, where she met and married her husband Marvin
 Strahm.  After they were both discharged from the Army, they went to 
Marvin’s home in Sabetha, Kansas, and started farming.  Their three 
children Tamera Kay, Kevin Ray, and Curtis James were all born in 
Sabetha, Kansas.&nbsp;

Peggy worked for the Sabetha Hospital
 up until they moved in 1971 to Osborne, Kansas, where her husband Marvin
 became the Farm Bureau Agent for Osborne County.  While living in 
Osborne, she was employed by the Osborne County Memorial Hospital and the
 Coast to Coast Store.  In the Fall of 1980, they made the move back to 
Sabetha, Kansas, and she remained there till May of 2007.  Wanting to be 
closer to her daughter and Family after her husband Marvin passed away 
in 2005 she made the move back to Osborne, Kansas.  Peggy enjoyed being a
 hospice volunteer in Sabetha and Osborne as she was a blessing to many 
she cared for.&nbsp;

Peggy had three special ladies she 
cared for in their homes from Osborne and Downs, Kansas which brought 
her great joy.  Many trips were made to Texas and California to be with 
her sisters and brother and she truly cherished those visits.  Peggy had
 many friends who she enjoyed playing cards with, eating out, attending 
different events in the area and working at the local thrift shop 
“Market Place."&nbsp; Peggy’s faith and belief in Jesus Christ was very 
important to her.  Marvin and her were members of the Apostolic Church 
of Sabetha, Kansas where they were both baptized and gave their 
testimony of faith.&nbsp;

Peggy enjoyed attending the Grace 
Brethren Church in Portis, Kansas where she met many new friends and 
partners of faith.  Grandchildren and great grandchildren were 
definitely a great joy for her and comfort.  Peggy had a gift of 
kindness and compassion in which she showed in her family and friends.  
Peggy often stated she was lucky to have a family she treasured and 
loved, generous friends, and a savior.&nbsp;

Peggy was 
preceded in death by her husband Marvin, her son Kevin, parents Herman 
and Hattie, brother Clyde, sisters Bertie Ruth and Billie, and great 
granddaughter Madison Spears.&nbsp;

Survivors include 
daughter Tammy and husband Doug Spears of Osborne, and her son Curtis 
and wife Claudia of Kansas City, Missouri.  Grandchildren Alisha and 
husband Jeff Schwinn of Topeka, Kansas, Jessica and husband David 
Hindman of Phillipsburg, Kansas, Devin and wife Mercedes Spears, of 
Osborne, Joshua Strahm of Los Angeles, California and Nicole Strahm of 
Kansas City, Missouri.  Great grandchildren Brody, Brixton, Brynlee, 
Ella, Emry, Maclin, Griffin, Abigail, Emma, Harper, and Maverick.

Verda Louise (Carper) Franklin of Smith Center passed into the loving
 arms of her Savior on February 25, 2023.  She was born March 25, 1931,&nbsp; to God fearing parents, Edward Paul and Esther (Noble) Carper on their 
farm north of Lebanon, Kansas.  She was the seventh of eight children so
 learned early the value of family relationships and hard work.  Verda 
attended Red Country grade school and graduated from Lebanon High School
 in 1949. 

 On September 4, 1949, she married James Franklin.  To this 
union, four children were born: Ken, Dale, Shirley, and Judy.  Verda was
 a farm wife and homemaker.  Her hobbies included Bible study, sewing, 
quilting, embroidery, reading, and more Bible study.

She was 
preceded in death by husband Jim in 2008, siblings and their spouses 
Gerald (Elsie) Carper, Edna (Ernie) Kattenberg, Don (Lorene) Carper, 
Delbert (Lois) Carper, Mary (Wayne) Kiefer, Ivan (Norma) Carper, 
brother-in-law Bill Frankin, and sister-in-laws Shirley Carper and Joan 
McElfresh. 

 She is survived by children Ken (Sondra) Franklin, Dale 
(Kathy) Franklin, Shirley (Randy) Merritt, and Judy (Daniel) Deaver. 
Also surviving are eleven grandchildren: Laci (Ben) Schrant, Erik 
(fiancé, Kathy Vrbas) Franklin, Tiffany (Ryan) Rietzke, John (Jennie)

She was born August 21, 1933, in La Crosse, the daughter of Leslie A. and Clara Elmore Deighton Sr.

A lifetime area resident, she was a bank teller at First State Bank 
in Larned. She was a member of First Christian Church, First Christian 
Women, VFW Auxiliary, Ladies Golf, and Ladies Bowling Association, all 
of Larned.

On June 15, 1952, she married William L. “Bill” Gross at Larned; he preceded her in death on August 23, 2018.

Survivors include: son, Steven (Brenda) Gross, Larned; son-in-law, 
Jerel Hagerman, Yucca Valley, California; seven grandchildren and 
twenty-one great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; daughter, Cindy 
Hagerman; four brothers, Robert Deighton, Jim Deighton, Ned Deighton,

Nathan Carl Emmons, age 44,&nbsp;of Colby, Kansas, passed away&nbsp;on&nbsp;Friday, February 24, 2023,&nbsp;at &nbsp;Hays Medical Center after an extended illness.&nbsp;Nathan was born September 1, 1978, in Colby, Kansas, the son of Joseph W. Emmons and Marsha&nbsp;(Den)&nbsp;Berens.

Nathan loved to travel, meet people, and explore new foods and taste sensations.&nbsp;He was quick to make friends, family, and even strangers laugh.&nbsp;Nathan enjoyed watching college and professional sports.&nbsp;He also loved movies of all kinds, but especially science-fiction, noir, and horror.&nbsp;Nathan was not afraid of hard work, and worked mainly in maintenance, construction, and landscaping.

Nathan is survived by his mother, Marsha Berens, Colby, KS;&nbsp;his&nbsp;father and stepmother, Joseph and Trish Emmons, Taos, NM;&nbsp;his&nbsp;stepsister,&nbsp;Erin Shaw (Jason), Decorah, IA; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.&nbsp;

Nathan was predeceased by his grandparents;&nbsp;Perry and Esther Emmons; and Ralph and Helen Den;his brother, Justin;&nbsp;and stepfather,&nbsp;Gary Berens.

Brian Lee Garza, 43, of Hutchinson, died February 23, 2023, as a 
result of a traffic accident near Haven. He was born March 31, 1979, in 
Satanta, to Caroline Garza.

Brian graduated from Hugoton High School in 1998 and attended HVAC 
trade school. He was a technician at Cheney Door Company. Brian loved 
being outdoors, going to the lake, and taking photos of sunsets, stars, 
and nature. He also enjoyed fixing things and doing home repairs, 
playing scratch tickets, and making people laugh. Above all, Brian loved
 spending time with his children.

He is survived by: his children, Trey Fink of Lawrence and Chloe 
Robinson of Garden City; mother, Caroline Garza of Hutchinson; 
companion, Cheyenne Gates of Hutchinson; and many extended family 
members.

Brian was preceded in death by: his brother, Marcos Garza; 
grandparents, Jose and Lidia Garza; uncles, Jose L. Garza, Carlos Garza,
 Elias Garza; and aunt, Shirley Hernandez.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Brian’s life will be held

Brian Lee Garza

Glenn Allen Miller, 92, passed away February 24, 2023, at Keepsake 
Kottage in Wichita. He was born July 7, 1930, in Great Bend, to Clarence
 M. &amp; Alverta J. (Gaunt) Miller. Glenn graduated from Great Bend 
High School in 1948. After graduation and turning 18, he enlisted in the
 United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict. His military 
service was later celebrated when he participated in an Honors Flight to
 Washington, D.C. After his honorable discharge in 1952, he returned to 
Great Bend and continued his career at Miller Printers as printer until 
his retirement.

He married Patricia Ann Ratliff of Larned, Kansas, on August 23, 
1951, when they eloped to Clayton, New Mexico. They were married for 58 
years until her death on December 31, 2009.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, having recently moved to Wichita, 
Glenn was a member of the Christian faith, American Legion, Kiwanis Club
 and past member of the V.F.W. Post #3111 and the Great Bend Cemetery 
Board. Glenn greatly enjoyed time spent with friends and family and took
 great pride in having a pristine lawn.

Survivors include, his son, Scott Miller of Harrison, Ark.; his 
daughter, Julie Straub and husband Larry of Andover, Kansas; four 
grandchildren, Christopher Hagler and wife Tracy of Kansas City, Mo., 
Vanessa Jeroue of St. George, Utah, Hillary Straub of Durham, North 
Carolina and Brantley Straub of Wichita, Kansas; seven 
great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and his brother, 
Richard Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, 
Patricia Miller; a daughter, Valerie Miller; two brothers, Carlos Miller
 and Merle Miller; and a sister, Rena Mae Miller.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 1, 
2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 6:00

Pamela "Pam" Yvette Bracy, 69, passed away 
peacefully February 20, 2023. She was born on August 14, 1953, in 
Woodston, Kansas, to Warren and Janeva Jones, who both preceded her 
death.

Pam was the oldest of four siblings, which undoubtedly led to her 
hard-working, nurturing, and selfless personality. She was rarely still,
 and spent her life making sure that those around her were happy and 
taken care of.

In 2016, Pam retired from the Internal Revenue Service where she spent
 her entire career. Being the first one in her family to attend college 
and earn a degree, she was very proud of the accomplishments that she 
had made, but at the same time humble enough to never broadcast them.

Pam’s passion for life was infectious. She had a quick wit and a 
great sense of humor that always put people at ease and made friends 
everywhere she went. She loved spending time with her family and friends
 and was always up for a game of pool or a shopping trip.

Pam will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her kindness and 
generosity touched the lives of many. Pam is survived by her daughter 
Danica Bracy, and siblings Tammy Jones, Jerry Jones and Fred Jones.

Shelly Beth Shelton, 71, returned home to the heavenly Father and 
took her place once again by her husband on February 23, 2023, in 
Salina. She was born on April 28, 1951, to Ivan S. &amp; Betty (Eastes) 
Freeman. She married her one true love, Douglas Shelton on January 16, 
1970, in Great Bend. He died October 17, 2014.

A long time Great Bend resident, Shelly was the office manager of 
Farley Machine Works until her retirement in 2014 to be by Doug’s side 
during his illness. She also had previously worked for Sunflower 
Diversified Services and Tomlinson Oil Company. Family and her love for 
them were most important to her. Next was her love for animals. Shelly 
always had a houseful and room for more.

Survivors include her son, Jason Shelton and wife Jenny, of Stafford;
 her daughter, Tasha Di Loreto and husband, Dan, of Salina; seven 
grandchildren, Austin McGinnes of Hutchinson, Jarod Shelton of Stafford,
 Jena Shelton of Stafford, McKenzie Green of Wichita, Lexus Di Loreto of
 Salina, Trista Shelton of Stafford and Danny Di Loreto of Salina; and 
four great-grandchildren, Jensyn and Caisyn Smith, Aidyn McGinnes, and 
Hadley Green, with another great-grandchild on the way. Also surviving 
her are her sisters-in-law, Melody Cell, Rhonda Shelton, and Sharon 
Wondra, and husband Harold, all of Great Bend and Michelle Shelton of 
Salina; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in

Lenora Mae (Boese) Stelter of Plainville, KS, passed away on 
February 23, 2023, at her home in Plainville. She was born on November 
14, 1933, to Walter and Minnie (Krug) Boese in Alexander, KS. She 
married Ralph Stelter on July 13, 1952. They were blessed with three 
daughters: Pam, Carol, and Kim.

Lenora grew up in 
Alexander and graduated from Alexander High School in 1951. She was a 
homemaker and kept busy raising three daughters. She enjoyed traveling 
all 50 states and going on many cruises.&nbsp;She also attended auctions for 
hours as she was a collector of many things. She loved spending time 
with her family and entertaining them – or them entertaining her! There 
were TikTok’s with her grandkids and she even danced for her kids once. 
She loved playing games –&nbsp;Pinochle, Bingo, and Pictionary were amongst 
her favorites. Lenora was a member of the First Lutheran Church.

Lenora Mae (Boese) Stelter

Leona Helen Boor, 89, Hays, died Thursday, February 23, 2023, at her home.

She was born September 24, 1933, in 
Hoxie, the daughter of William and Louise (Gaede) Rall.&nbsp;&nbsp;Leona graduated
 from Hoxie High School, and on October 8, 1951, she was united in 
marriage to Harold G. Boor in Grinnell.&nbsp;&nbsp;They celebrated 63 years of 
marriage before he preceded her in death on January 25, 2015.&nbsp;&nbsp;Leona was
 a devout member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church where she 
served as a Eucharistic Minister, helped with funeral dinners, and was a
 Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Adorer. &nbsp;She was also a member&nbsp;of 
Christian Mothers, Daughters of Isabella Circle #254, and the Extension 
Homemakers Unit.&nbsp;&nbsp;Leona was employed at Travenol and St. John’s Nursing 
Home, and a volunteer worker at the Community Assistance Center. &nbsp;She 
was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, and enjoyed sewing, 
gardening, and crafting.

Survivors include two sons: Doug Boor 
and wife Joyce of Hutchinson, Stan Boor and wife Cindy of Hays, two 
daughters: Cheryl Grabbe and husband Richard of Overland Park, Missy 
Gollhofer and husband Phil of Fort Worth, TX, two brothers: Kurt and 
Gaeheart Rall, 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and numerous 
nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her 
parents, husband Harold, a son: Harlan Boor, a step grandson: Aaron 
Koehn, six brothers: Ted, Ervin, Bob, Bill, Elmer, and Lorenz, and five 
sisters: Rose, Wilma, Louise, Mary, and Helen.

 </figure>Leona Helen Boor, 89, Hays, died Thursday, February 23, 2023, at her home.She was born September 24, 1933, in 
Hoxie, the daughter of William and Louise (Gaede) Rall.&nbsp;&nbsp;Leona graduated
 from Hoxie High School, and on October 8, 1951, she was united in 
marriage to Harold G. Boor in Grinnell.&nbsp;&nbsp;They celebrated 63 years of 
marriage before he preceded her in death on January 25, 2015.&nbsp;&nbsp;Leona was
 a devout member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church where she 
served as a Eucharistic Minister, helped with funeral dinners, and was a
 Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Adorer. &nbsp;She was also a member&nbsp;of 
Christian Mothers, Daughters of Isabella Circle #254, and the Extension 
Homemakers Unit.&nbsp;&nbsp;Leona was employed at Travenol and St. John’s Nursing 
Home, and a volunteer worker at the Community Assistance Center. &nbsp;She 
was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, and enjoyed sewing, 
gardening, and crafting.Survivors include two sons: Doug Boor 
and wife Joyce of Hutchinson, Stan Boor and wife Cindy of Hays, two 
daughters: Cheryl Grabbe and husband Richard of Overland Park, Missy 
Gollhofer and husband Phil of Fort Worth, TX, two brothers: Kurt and 
Gaeheart Rall, 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and numerous 
nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her 
parents, husband Harold, a son: Harlan Boor, a step grandson: Aaron 
Koehn, six brothers: Ted, Ervin, Bob, Bill, Elmer, and Lorenz, and five

Leona Helen Boor

Marvin Barnett, 82, of Gem, KS, died Wednesday, February 22, 2023. He 
was a Husband, Father, Grandfather, Farmer, Rancher and serial 
Entrepreneur. But first and foremost, Marvin loved the Lord. 
Marvin was born on January 12, 1941, to Ralph and Velma Barnett on their
 family’s farm north of Gem, KS, where he grew up with his older 
brother, Ron, and his younger brother, Bill. Their parents taught the 
boys the value of hard work, and how to work on a farm. 
But Marvin was also mischievous, such as the time he watched a movie 
about Mohicans, after which he gave himself a reverse Mohawk haircut and
 shaved his eyebrows, the day before grade school pictures. 
Marvin graduated from Colby High School, Colby, KS, in 1959, where he 
played football and was active in plays. He loved riding horses. 
Colby High is where he met the love of his life, Alberta Schielke 
“Topper," whom he married shortly after graduation, and with whom he had
 two strong, smart and successful daughters. 
Marvin attended Kansas State University, considering the study of 
veterinary medicine. So, Marvin and Topper moved to Manhattan. But his 
business and traveling spirit took him on another path. 
Shortly after Kansas State, Marvin owned and managed gas stations, first
 in Atwood, KS and then in downtown Wichita. He also attended trade 
school and earned an associate degree in drafting. 
While Marvin and Topper were in Wichita in the 1960’s, Marvin began to 
work for the Pinkerton Detective Agency. As part of this job, Marvin 
occasionally worked with Vern Miller, the Sedgwick County Sheriff, who 
eventually became the Kansas Attorney General. He also worked as a store
 detective for G.E.M., in Wichita and Wichita Falls, TX. 
Marvin went back into business, as a salesman for Speed King, selling 
agricultural related equipment, beginning in Dodge City, but eventually 
Marvin and Topper went to Georgia. Marvin loved sales. In his sales 
career, Marvin sold all over the Midwestern and Eastern U.S., plus 
across Canada. For example, he called on a Georgia farm, run by Billy 
and Jimmy Carter, who eventually became the U.S. President. 
Marvin was hired away by Kraus Manufacturing, again in agricultural sales, and was transferred to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. 
Marvin was lured back to Kansas by R &amp; R Manufacturing, in Pratt, 
KS, where he became the general manager of its manufacturing operations.
 While in Pratt, Marvin started farming again and had a hog operation. 
In the early 1980’s, Marvin’s brother Bill decided to begin a full-time 
Christian ministry, so Marvin and Topper moved back to Gem, to take over
 the family farm. Marvin was a very successful farmer. 
But Marvin still had his business spirits. Marvin and Topper started an 
over the road trucking company, M &amp; A Barnett Trucking, Co. The 
company eventually had multiple trucks, running over the road, coast to 
coast, all operated out of a converted garage north of Gem. Marvin and 
topper eventually sold the trucking company and for the last few years 
have been retired from farming, enjoying watching their daughters become
 strong professional women, and their grandson become an engineer. 
Marvin was predeceased by his father Ralph Woodrow Barnett; his mother, 
Velma Florene (Schiffer) Barnett; and his brother Ralph William Barnett. 
He is survived by his wife, Alberta Clara (Schielke) Barnett and brother
 Ronald Ray Barnett (Norma), of Eaton, CO. He is also survived by his 
daughter, Debra Lee Barnett (William Woolley), of Wichita; daughter, 
Deanna Louise Barnett (Tom Short), of Dodge City; Deb and William’s son;
 Tom’s children; and foster daughter, Kim Fiedler (Bill), of Lansing, 
KS.

Marvin Lee Barnett

Jeffery D. Munz, age 68 of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away at his 
home in Great Bend on Wednesday afternoon, February 22, 2023.&nbsp; Jeffery 
was born on March 30, 1954 at St. John, Kansas to Karl and Ruby 
(Lambert) Munz.&nbsp; 

He served in the U.S. Army, and received his Bachelor’s
 Degree in Accounting from the University of Kansas and his Master’s 
Degree in Accounting from the University of Missouri – Kansas City.&nbsp; He 
moved to Great Bend in 1983 from Westport, Kansas City, Missouri and 
worked as Accountant for Lee Turner and Turner Farms in Great Bend, and 
Dechant &amp; Taylor Chartered Accounting in La Crosse, Kansas, prior to 
his retirement in 2016.&nbsp; Jeffery enjoyed traveling and taking 
photographs, hunting, gardening, carpentry, and loved to play Bridge.&nbsp; 
He was an avid K.U. Jayhawks Basketball fan.

Survivors include one son, Samuel (&amp; Tayler) Munz of Wamego, 
Kansas and one daughter, Lucy K.M. Munz of Essex, Vermont; two 
grandchildren:&nbsp; James and Madeline Munz; his partner Janet Oberle of 
Salina, Kansas; two brothers:&nbsp; Juan (&amp; Belinda) Munz of St. John, 
Kansas and Rev. Jerry (&amp; Joyce) Munz of Lakeland, Florida; one 
sister Jodine (&amp; Douglas) Trout of Osceola, Missouri; one 
brother-in-law Chuck Theel of Olathe, Kansas; nine nieces and nephews, 
many great-nieces and great-nephews, and countless friends.&nbsp; Jeffery was
 preceded in death by his parents and one sister Julie Theel.

According to his wishes, cremation has been chosen and a Memorial 
Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at the First
 Congregational Church in Great Bend with Reverend Mike Munz 
officiating.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow at Trinity Cemetery near Hudson, 
Kansas. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, March 3, 
2023 at Charter Funerals in Great Bend.&nbsp;

A lifelong resident of Kanorado, Rickie Lee Windell went to his Heavenly Home February 22, 2023, at the age of 74.

Rickie was born April 17, 1948, in Goodland.&nbsp; He was the oldest of 
three sons born to Lester Andrew Windell and Naomi Ruth Mangus.

He attended school in Kanorado K-12.&nbsp; He graduated Kanorado High in 
1966 and joined the National Guard and attended FHSU for one semester.&nbsp; 
He returned home to do what he loved, farming.&nbsp; He was blessed to farm 
with his dad Les, and later his two brothers Mike and Rob.

He married Victoria Ann Denton on June 28, 1968.&nbsp; Out of this union 
God blessed them with three daughters.&nbsp; Rickie was a loving husband and 
dad.&nbsp; We cherish all the memories.

He was able to continue farming with his son-in-law Lee and grandsons
 with the idea of retiring next year, or next year, or the next.&nbsp; True 
farmers never retire.

Rickie enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest.&nbsp; He was a born again
 Christian and loved to tell others about Jesus.&nbsp; He was generous and 
kind and was always ready to lend a helping hand or a smile to someone 
in need.&nbsp; He is celebrating his eternal life with Jesus, and for that we
 are rejoicing!&nbsp; We will miss him!

 granddaughter Faith Victoria-Diane Figgins, his son-in-law Brad

Donna Rae Crist passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at the Phillips County Hospital, Phillipsburg, at the age of 85.

She was born on October 10, 1937, in Belleville, KS the daughter of Clarence A. “Abbie” and Fannie (Bates) Williams.

On October 10, 1953, in Phillipsburg, KS, she was united in marriage 
to Garth Junior Crist.&nbsp; The couple was blessed with two sons, Mark and 
Daniel “D.C."

Donna was a homemaker.&nbsp; She and Garth could be found most evenings 
watching the world pass by at the square in Phillipsburg.&nbsp; She was known
 as a jokester to friends and family and was always looking for a way to
 put a smile on your face.&nbsp; Her grandchildren were her greatest pride 
and joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Wayne, Dennis, 
Bob, and Norman Williams; sister Nancy Banks; and her husband Garth in 
1996.

Survivors include her sons Mark and wife JoAnn of McPherson and D.C. 
and wife Pam of Phillipsburg; 5 grandchildren: Renee Anderson and 
husband Mark, Erica Matyak and husband Luke, Travis Crist and wife 
Megan, Lucas Crist and wife Addie, and Tanner Crist and fiancé Rylea 
Rains; 5 great grandchildren; sister Catherine Derowitsch of Belleville,
 KS; and 3 sisters-in-law Alma Williams of Sedgwick, KS, Virginia 
Williams of Belleville, KS, and Carol Williams of Derby, KS.

Those that knew Donna, knew her faith in God was abundant, and her 
memory will be carried on through her children, grandchildren,

Omaha, NE.&nbsp; His parents were Willie &amp; Laraine (Meyer) Zimmerman of 
Fairbury.&nbsp; He was baptized November 25, 1951, and confirmed April 11, 
1965, at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury where he was a lifelong 
member.

Doug grew up on a farm a few miles east of Fairbury attending 
District 63 and graduating from Fairbury High School with the class of 
1969.&nbsp; As a youth, he played little league baseball during the summers. 
He was active in 4-H &amp; FFA.&nbsp; In high school he was on the football 
and track teams.&nbsp; He enlisted in the National Guard in 1969.&nbsp; He left 
the guard in 1976.&nbsp;

Doug married JoAnn Ahrens on May 6, 1972.&nbsp; This union was blessed 
with the birth of 2 children, Korinne &amp; Riley.&nbsp; They were married 
for 50 years.

He began his farming career at the age of 9, helping with the daily 
farming and chores.&nbsp; He farmed for 48 years before moving in to town in 
2008.&nbsp; After moving to Fairbury he worked at the Thies Sandpit for 3 
years.

Doug enjoyed spending time outside hunting, fishing &amp; pistol 
shooting.&nbsp; He belonged to the Practical Pistol Association shoot out of 
Lincoln &amp; Omaha for many years.&nbsp; He was a history buff &amp; 
collected prehistoric rocks, bones, teeth &amp; tusks.&nbsp; He was always 
happy to give a quick history lesson to anyone.

Much enjoyment came from cars &amp; drag racing.&nbsp; He started racing 
in 1970 at Manhattan, KS and continued there until the track closed in 
2019. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix from a combine to a lawn 
mower. He was the owner of Doug’s Automotive for 20+ years, selling high
 performance car parts from his garage.&nbsp;

He loved spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren.&nbsp;

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Willie &amp; Laraine 
Zimmerman and father-in-law &amp; mother-in-law Herbert &amp; Wauneta 
Ahrens.

He is survived by his wife JoAnn, daughter Korinne Zimmerman of 
Lincoln, son Riley (Krystal) Zimmerman of Phillipsburg, KS, 
grandchildren Dakkon, Andi &amp; Wyndham Priko of Lincoln, Kiley &amp; 
Jake Zimmerman of Phillipsburg, KS, sister Debra (Douglas) DeWald of 
Gretna, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins &amp; friends.

The family will greet friends Friday evening March 3, 2023,
 from 6 – 8 at the funeral home.&nbsp; Memorials will go to Children’s Mercy 
Hospital in Kansas City. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is assisting with
