Leroy "Bud" Rodman, of Stockton, KS, went to heaven to join his wife 
on February 13, 2023, at Hays Medical Center, at the age of 97. He was 
born in Ree Heights, South Dakota on July 1, 1925.  He was number 12 of 
13 children born to Chalmer and Elsie Rodman.

Bud grew 
up on the farm with 10 sisters and 1 brother which involved many stories
 of South Dakota farming life. He went into the Navy in 1950 at 25 years
 old so he could get away from the farm and served in the Korean War. He
 was discharged in May 1954 and went to work in the Navy Shipyard in 
Bremerton, Washington as a heavy equipment operator; several of his 
family had migrated to Washington by then. He married Irene Knudson on 
September 3, 1954, and they were married for 61 years. The had two 
children, Stephen and Gail.

Bud was an amazing handyman
 who could fix anything. He enjoyed camping, gardening, boating, 
puzzles, and helping others. He was always willing to lend a hand.

Bud
 loved Jesus his Savior and was involved in many church activities 
throughout the years. He attended North Oak Community Church while 
living in Hays. After retirement they traveled for 17 years with Mobile 
Missionary Assistant Program doing building projects in various states. 
In 2005 they settled in Hays, Kansas to be near their daughter. Bud 
loved his family and enjoyed family get togethers, especially visits 
when he was in the nursing home.

Bud is survived by his
 son, Stephen (Brenda) Rodman of Dolan Spring, Arizona; daughter, Gail 
(Ron) Gallaway of Stockton, Kansas; 5 Grandchildren; 9 
Great-Grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irene; 2 grandchildren, Carlos and Diego Gallaway; 2 brothers; and 10 sisters.

Bud
 had a deep faith in God and touched many lives. His example of love and
 devotion to His Savior leaves a legacy for generations to come.  A 
legacy that we will carry in our hearts forever.

A 
Graveside Service will be held at the Stockton Cemetery on Saturday, 
February 18, 2023, at 9:30 AM. A Celebration of Life Service will follow
 at 10:30 AM at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home in Stockton. There will be
 no public visitation.

John Craig Young

Ora Lee Folsom, 80, passed away on February 14, 2023, at Medicalodges
 in Great Bend, Kan. He was born on February 26, 1942, in Great Bend, 
Kan., to Clarence and Sara (Ware) Folsom. On January 19, 1967, he 
married Judy Barragree in La Crosse, Kansas. She survives.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Ora spent many of his working years 
in home construction, along with time spent in the oil field and truck 
driving. He enjoyed wood working, particularly in cabinetry, working on 
cars, and general “tinkering”.

Survivors include his wife of the home; three daughters, Lori (John) 
Vainer, Robin (Lee) Bretz, and Dena (Bradley) Wicks, all of Great Bend, 
Kan.; six grandchildren, Brodie Bretz, Braylin Bretz, Katlin Warner, 
Aron Vainer, Emma Phillips, and Gaven Folsom; and two 
great-grandchildren, Krew Mayhugh and Oliver Warner. He is preceded in 
death by his parents; a brother, Robert Folsom; and a sister, Margaret 
Deckert.

Visitation will take place from Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February
 17, 2023, with the family receiving guests from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.,
 at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on 
Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home. Interment will 
follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, with Military Rites conducted by the 
United States Navy.

Ora Lee Folsom

Jack Whitton Jacobs, 84, Hill City, Kansas, passed away February 8, 
2023, at the Graham County Hospital. He was born January 15, 1939, at 
home in Hill City to Kenneth “Shorty” and Ruby Lee (Whitton) Jacobs. 
Jack and Shirley Kauffman were married October 24, 1959, in Hill City.

From kindergarten through high school Jack attended Hill City 
Grade and High School, graduating in 1957. He worked for the Hill City 
Times during his school years. By doing so, he earned his 
apprenticeship. Jack worked in the printing industry in Denver and 
Pueblo, Colorado from 1959 to 1974. Returning to Hill City in 1974, he 
started Jacobs Plumbing which he operated until his retirement. Jack had
 many interests. He created lovely, detailed woodworking which included 
building furniture. Jack also did a bit of construction work, including 
an apartment for Shirley and him to live in during their retirement 
years. Other hobbies he enjoyed were building and flying radio 
controlled made airplanes and traveling. He and Shirley especially liked
 attending bluegrass music concerts. Jack loved people and life.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Ruby 
Jacobs,  his daughter Christine Gail Jacobs, his son David Lynn Jacobs 
and brother-in-law Roger Odle. 

Survivors left to fondly remember him are
 his wife Shirley of Hill City; sister Linda Jacobs of Latham, Missouri;
 daughter-in-law Debbie Jacobs Gish (Steve) of Fort Myers, Florida; 
grandchildren:  Jennifer Weich (Steve) of Phoenix, Arizona and Kyle 
Jacobs (Colleen) of Columbus, Ohio. Great grandchildren:  Rocco Jack 
Jacobs and Bear Hicks Jacobs of Columbus, Ohio; sister-in-law Louise 
Odle of Cedar Falls, Iowa; nieces Tracy Rake of New Orleans, Louisiana 
and Brenda Showers (Terry) of Valley Falls, Kansas; nephew Craig Odle 
(Vicky) of Lenexa, Kansas; and cousins:  Edith Vondall of Pocatello, 
Idaho, Jane Jacobs of Pawnee City, Nebraska, and JF Stover of Hill City.

Our beloved Roy L. Searls, of Atwood, finished his race and heard, “well
 done good and faithful servant” on February 7, 2023, at the age of 96 
years, 6 months and 23 days. 
Roy was born to parents Daniel and Emma Searls on July 15, 1926. Early 
on in life, Roy faced many significant losses. By the age of 14, Roy had
 lost both his mother and his father. Six weeks into his senior year in 
high school, Roy was drafted into the United States Navy where he served
 during WWII. 
On February 3, 1945, Roy married his high school sweetheart, Betty 
“Jeane” Howard. Roy and Jeane celebrated 78 years of marriage and had 
four wonderful children—Carol Ann, Daniel, Debby, and Kenneth. 
For 40 years, Roy worked for AT&amp;T in Atwood. Roy was an active 
member of the Masonic Lodge since 1951 and served as a Worthy Patron in 
Eastern Star. He was also an active and faithful member of the United 
Methodist Church. While he was still able, Roy could be found golfing, 
building something in his workshop, drinking coffee with friends, or 
serving in the community with Jeane by his side. 
Roy pursued people. His kindness, steadfastness, compassion, and 
servant’s heart impacted just about anyone that knew him. If you know 
Roy, you probably have a cabinet, bread box, crib, bookcase, or some 
other wooden treasure made by his hands. He welcomed all and loved 
freely. He will be missed, but we rest in the hope that there are things
 death cannot touch. 
Roy Searls was preceded in death by daughter, Carol Ann Heim; son, 
Kenneth Searls; and son-in-law, John Sandoval. Roy is survived by wife,

Chris Gottschalk 

Thomas A. Gilkerson, 78, of Frontenac, Kansas, passed away on February 
9th, 2023, after a long illness. He was the son of Othal and Lavina 
(Herdt) Gilkerson. Thomas was born on April 29, 1944, in Salina, Kansas,&nbsp; and was the oldest of twelve children. He was preceded in death by his 
parents, infant sister Geneva and brother Marvin. He is survived by
 his wife of the home Anne (Teeter) Gilkerson and three adult children. 
His oldest daughter is Jenna and husband Larry Watson of Aurora, MO. 
Daughter Adina and husband Tony Sanchez of Pittsburg, KS. Son Travis and
 wife Kristine (Hilgart) Gilkerson of Hewitt, WI. Tom has four 
grandchildren, Ciara and Roman Sanchez and Andrew and Emma Gilkerson. 
 Tom is survived by siblings: Lela and husband Jim Ziegelmeier of 
Salina, KS, Lila and husband Wayne Krug of Salina, KS, Virginia Reed of 
Katy, TX, Verlin and wife Liz Gilkerson of Elk Grove, CA, Verna and 
husband Bill Organ of Henderson, Nevada, Wilmer and wife Gail Gilkerson 
of Marysville, KS, Lorraine Samuelson of Oakley, KS, Stanley and wife 
Esther Gilkerson of Burkburnett, TX and Pam Jackson of Hermitage, TN. 
 Tom grew up and attended schools in Oakley, Kansas. He served in the US
 Army at Red Stone Arsenal in Alabama, working with the Nike Hercules 
Missile System. He attended college at Fort Hays State University before
 marrying his wife, Anne Marie Teeter, on November 26, 1966, in Oakley, 
KS. Tom worked with several companies in his adult life including: 
Beech Aircraft, Addressograph, Ruffin Fertilizer, Grainger Farm Supply, 
and Certified Laboratories. He enjoyed working with southwest Kansas 
industries and small municipalities in the water treatment industry. Tom
 founded and operated Catalog Chemical, a water treatment consulting 
company, for several years. Later on, he was an owner-operator of two 
parcel delivery routes with RPS and FedEx. Tom enjoyed several clubs and
 organizations including: Ambucs, Optimus Club, and Lions Club, and 
always enjoyed meeting friends for coffee in Dodge City to have spirited
 discussions about current events. Tom’s family would like to 
express deep gratitude to the many healthcare professionals that cared 
for him over the past several years. Special thanks to Dr. Jacqueline

 </figure>Thomas A. Gilkerson, 78, of Frontenac, Kansas, passed away on February 
9th, 2023, after a long illness. He was the son of Othal and Lavina 
(Herdt) Gilkerson. Thomas was born on April 29, 1944, in Salina, Kansas,&nbsp; and was the oldest of twelve children. He was preceded in death by his 
parents, infant sister Geneva and brother Marvin. He is survived by
 his wife of the home Anne (Teeter) Gilkerson and three adult children. 
His oldest daughter is Jenna and husband Larry Watson of Aurora, MO. 
Daughter Adina and husband Tony Sanchez of Pittsburg, KS. Son Travis and
 wife Kristine (Hilgart) Gilkerson of Hewitt, WI. Tom has four 
grandchildren, Ciara and Roman Sanchez and Andrew and Emma Gilkerson. 
 Tom is survived by siblings: Lela and husband Jim Ziegelmeier of 
Salina, KS, Lila and husband Wayne Krug of Salina, KS, Virginia Reed of 
Katy, TX, Verlin and wife Liz Gilkerson of Elk Grove, CA, Verna and 
husband Bill Organ of Henderson, Nevada, Wilmer and wife Gail Gilkerson 
of Marysville, KS, Lorraine Samuelson of Oakley, KS, Stanley and wife 
Esther Gilkerson of Burkburnett, TX and Pam Jackson of Hermitage, TN. 
 Tom grew up and attended schools in Oakley, Kansas. He served in the US
 Army at Red Stone Arsenal in Alabama, working with the Nike Hercules 
Missile System. He attended college at Fort Hays State University before
 marrying his wife, Anne Marie Teeter, on November 26, 1966, in Oakley, 
KS. Tom worked with several companies in his adult life including: 
Beech Aircraft, Addressograph, Ruffin Fertilizer, Grainger Farm Supply, 
and Certified Laboratories. He enjoyed working with southwest Kansas 
industries and small municipalities in the water treatment industry. Tom
 founded and operated Catalog Chemical, a water treatment consulting 
company, for several years. Later on, he was an owner-operator of two 
parcel delivery routes with RPS and FedEx. Tom enjoyed several clubs and
 organizations including: Ambucs, Optimus Club, and Lions Club, and 
always enjoyed meeting friends for coffee in Dodge City to have spirited
 discussions about current events. Tom’s family would like to 
express deep gratitude to the many healthcare professionals that cared 
for him over the past several years. Special thanks to Dr. Jacqueline

Martin Lloyd Schneider, 64, of Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday, 
February 7, 2023, at the Russell Regional Hospital emergency room.

Martin was born on June 6, 1958, in Russell, Kansas, the son of 
Lloyd Raymond and Marjorie Louise (Hoopes) Schneider.&nbsp; Martin grew up in
 Russell and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1977.&nbsp; 
Martin met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Deborah Ann Sipes
 on June 6, 1991, in Gorham, Kansas.&nbsp; He worked as a custodian at 
Bickerdyke Elementary in Russell for 12 years and was a clerk for 22 
years at the Russell Coast to Coast Store.&nbsp; He enjoyed working with his 
hands, woodworking and loved helping children, spending time with his 
nieces and nephews and making them smile and laugh. &nbsp;He especially loved
 driving with his dog up and down the street on his lawnmower.

Surviving family include sister Alice Morris and husband Derrick of 
Coffeyville, Kansas, his brother Henry Schneider of Salina, Kansas; 
sisters Beverly Hartsook of Russell, Kansas and Diane Bell and husband 
Tom of Emporia, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Deborah on April 5, 
2012, daughter Alicia Marie Schneider, brother Tim Schneider and sister 
Carlene Schneider. Cremation has been selected by the family.&nbsp; A 
graveside memorial service to celebrate Martin’s life will be held at 11
 A.M. on Friday, February 17, 2023, at the Russell City Cemetery. &nbsp;

The 
family requests donation be given to the mortuary to help with funeral 
expenses.&nbsp; Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in 
charge of the funeral service arrangements.

Mary Ann Wolan, 67, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell.

Mary Ann was born May 15, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois. She was the daughter of Walter Joseph and Frances Florence (Pakula) Wolan. She&nbsp;grew up in Calumet Park, Illinois, and graduated from Mother of Sorrows high school in Blue Island, Illinois.&nbsp; She then attended Fox College/Concordia University Secretarial School.&nbsp; Mary Ann was a Secretary for International Harvester and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NIAI). She also worked at and had many friends at The Coleman Company in Gardner, Kansas, and at Walmart in Manhattan Kansas. She enjoyed going to Thrift stores, collecting antiques and other treasures, selling on eBay, traveling and camping, enjoying the dogs, playing guitar, and especially, reading and listening to the Bible and spending time with family.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Surviving family include her daughter, Crystal Brazzle (Matthew) of Bailey, Colorado; son, Sean Daniels of Texas;&nbsp;brother, Robert Wolan of Russell, Kansas; brother, John Wolan of Cicero Illinois; sister, Sharon Dote of Poplar Grove Illinois; foster-sister, Kim Sapolski;, fiancé and childhood sweetheart, Randy Weis of Russell Kansas, and four treasured grandchildren.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Walter Wolan; sisters Florence and Agnes, and foster-parents, Chester (Chet) and Ruth Sapolski.&nbsp; Mary Ann’s faith was strong, and she is now resting in the arms of Jesus.

A memorial service was held at the Chapel of Hope in Russell. Condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner- Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.

Keith Veryl Muirhead, 96, passed away at the Decatur County Hospital on Sunday, February 12, 2023.

He
 was born on November 27, 1926, in Dresden, KS to John H. and Jennie 
(Jennings) Muirhead.  He graduated from Decatur County High School in 
May of 1945 and immediately enlisted into the US Army, serving his 
country during WWII.  After the war, he went to Kansas Wesleyan 
University, earning his bachelor’s degree in accounting.

During 
his college summers, he would work in Denver, CO and while there, he 
caught the eye of a nursing student he knew from back home, Helen 
Heilman, and captured her heart while dancing the waltz on Saturday 
nights.  Keith and Helen were married on April 5, 1953, in Jennings, KS 
and made their home on a farm on the edge of Dresden.  They had four 
daughters.

Keith’s passion was farming and he farmed in and around
 Dresden for over 50 years.  However, Keith had many interests and was 
an avid hunter, fisherman, snow skier, dancer, wood worker and traveler.
  He made much of the furniture in his house, and he loved hosting 
hunters for pheasant season.  Those friendships endured his entire life.

Keith
 was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Joyce Christensen; 
and his wife, Helen (Heilman) Muirhead.  He is survived by his four 
daughters, Mignon (Todd) Barry of Wellfleet, MA, Tamala Schulze of 
Lexington, KY, Michelle Zodrow of Grapevine, TX, and Teffani Zadeh of 
Chicago, IL; five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

A 
celebration of Keith’s 96 years will be held at the Jennings United 
Methodist Church in Jennings, KS on Friday, February 17, 2023, at 11:00 
am. A visitation will be from 1-7:00 pm Thursday, February 16, at Pauls 
Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 5-7:00 pm. 

 Even in our
 dad’s short time at the Good Samaritan Center he received loving and 
concerned care.  Therefore, the daughters would appreciate donations to

Pauline Faye Goeken

Mary Caroline Stewart was born in Tahoka, 
Texas, February 16, 1925, the daughter of Loucile Crawford Stewart and 
Robert Marshall Stewart. She grew up on a farm in Lynn County, and 
home-schooled by her mother, our beloved Mawie, Mary was well ahead of 
her peers when she demanded she be allowed to join the other farm 
children she saw daily collected by the school bus, and she was off! 
Mary attended rural schools, and one teacher she remembered fondly 
having a great impact on her was Juanita Parker, a direct descendant of 
the great Quanah, a Chief of the "Empire of the Summer Moon." Mary graduated from Tahoka High School in 1941. Mary
 continued her education at Texas Technological College (now University)
 achieving the Degree of Bachelor of Arts in Spanish in 1945. A 
polyglot, Mary was conversationally fluent in several languages and 
halting in more. (She was the young girl who translated the letter from 
the French family for the family of the West Texas airman shot down over
 France, relating the circumstances of their brave young hero's demise.)
 Mary pursued a Master's Degree at the National University of Mexico in 
Mexico City and at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, where she was 
awarded a fellowship and where she taught Spanish. It was there she met 
George Gail Heather, also a graduate student. Mary typed George's
 dissertation submitted in pursuit of his Doctoral Degree, which he 
received in January 1946, and the two were married April 15. The lucky 
bastard! George's academic career took them to Hays, Kansas, 
Denver, Colorado, Tallahassee, Florida and, ultimately to Lubbock, 
Texas, where George served as Dean of the School of Business at Texas 
Tech for 18 years. There Mary met her lifelong best friend and sister 
she never had, Sellie Shine, wife of Henry, a head of the Chemistry 
Department at Tech. In 1969 the family relocated to Omaha, Nebraska, 
where Mary began a career in commercial travel. In 1972, the family 
moved once more, to Indianapolis, Indiana, where Mary continued her 
career, handling group travel and managing travel agencies. Following 
George's death in 1977, Mary came home to West Texas, continuing her 
work in travel and visiting countries in Europe, Asia and the Middle 
East, Africa, South America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Mary hosted a 
travel segment on a Lubbock television news program for some time. 
Guiding tours to these exotic places around the world, Mary was also 
able to see old friends from long before: Mary saw things no longer can we see warmly welcomed where are forbidden to we visited places that no longer be only one facet of the jewel that was Mary Mary
 and George had five children: Robert Marshall Heather (deceased) of 
Combine, Texas; Georgia Heather Bowen (deceased) of Forney, Texas; 
Lizabeth Heather Powers, MD of Canton, Ohio; John Gilbert Heather, JD of
 Combine, Texas; and James Stewart Heather of Lubbock; also six 
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mary was a peerless 
rifle shot, instructed from five by her father, our beloved Pawie, a 
hero of the Great War. Mary had a flair for driving and loved her big 
motor standard shift Mustangs. An excellent cook, Mary normalized foods 
to the family's palates that others charitably referred to as too 
exotic. Mary celebrated familiarity with all the fauna and flora, 
especially the unusual, from tarantulas, snakes, and alligators to feral
 baby jackrabbits. Yes, we have seen baby pigeons. Mary was a member of 
The Order of the Eastern Star, the First Methodist Church of Lubbock, a 
past president of the Lubbock League of Women Voters, and a recognized 
member of Mensa. Mary was an extremely talented artist, for many years 
illustrating the annual Christmas cards sent by hundreds to friends and 
faculty throughout the world, depicting the maturation of our family, 
and both wrote and illustrated two children's books privately published 
for her grand and great-grandchildren sharing her early life and love of
 the beauty and wonder of her world of the West Texas farm and dry land 
she knew so well: "The Little Girl" in 2011, and "The Long Dry Spell" in
 2012. A consummate seamstress, Mary contributed many tireless hours 
creating costuming for Lubbock Little Theatre productions. Mary 
was a bright, much-loved, and beautiful soul whose wisdom, abilities, 
wit, and humor will forever be missed by her friends and family. Mary
 Caroline Stewart Heather answered the call to her Reward January 14, 
2022, in Lubbock, Texas. Her autobiography "Texas Girl" was published in
 2015.

Ronald Claude Bell

Carolene June Veeh Marshall, born June 1, 1938, departed this earth 
at her home on February 8, 2023, at the age of 84, surrounded by family.&nbsp;
 Carolene was born to Louis &amp; Nellie (Clark) Veeh in Phillipsburg, 
KS.

At the age of 5, the Veeh family moved to Speed, KS until 1950 when the
 family moved to Phillipsburg. Carolene graduated in 1956 from 
Phillipsburg High School.

In 1957, Carolene married Blair Chrise, in Chicago, IL, but moved 
within the year to Pittsburgh, PA.&nbsp; To this union, three children were 
born Debi, John, and Doug. In 1989, Carolene moved from Pittsburgh, PA to
 Grand Island, NE, then Hastings, NE to be near her family.

Love found Carolene again in 1991 when she married Terry Marshall. 
She and Terry made their home in Hastings.&nbsp; Life took Carolene &amp; 
Terry to Geneva, NE in 2003 for work where she retired in 2009 after 
helping her daughter Debi at Whispering Wicks Candle Co.

Carolene enjoyed all the time she was able to spend with each and every member of her family. Her Grandchildren were her world.&nbsp;

She is survived by children Debi (James) Noyes of Geneva, John 
(Brenda) Chrise of Hastings, Doug Chrise of Fairmont; stepsons Brad 
(Angie) Marshall of Lincoln and Kent (Brandi) Marshall of Lincoln; 
grandchildren Tara Griffiths of Milford, Brooke Brown of Grafton, Ciara 
Burton of Geneva, and Logan Chrise of Colorado Springs; step 
grandchildren Hayley, Landon, and Lyla Marshall of Lincoln; great 
grandchildren Brenden, Baylee, Jayda, Jarin, Mylie, Addysen, Corbyn, 
Kash, Alyvia, Lakynn, Myah, and Axton; along with a great great 
grandchild Jade.

Carolene was preceded in death by her parents, sister, niece, and husband Terry Marshall.

Cremation was planned.&nbsp; A graveside service will be held Saturday, 
February 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Fairview Cemetery in 
Phillipsburg, KS with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating.

Carolene June Marshall

Agra resident Alfred L. Ducharm passed away on Friday, February 10, 
2023, in the Phillips County Hospital, Phillipsburg, at the age of 86.

Alfred was born September 7, 1936, in Rooks County, KS the son of 
Alfred F. and Mary Rose (McHugh) Ducharm.&nbsp; He served in the United 
States Army.

He was united in marriage to Aleta R. Gower on June 12, 1954, in Norton, KS.&nbsp; She preceded him death on April 20, 2013.

Survivors include his sons Jimmy of Agra, KS and Kerry of Mission 
Viejo, CA; a daughter Gaylene Ducharm also of Mission Viejo, CA; a 
brother Mike Ducharm of Huntington Beach, CA; 7 Grandchildren; and 1 
great grandchild.

Mr. Ducharm will lie in state from noon until 9 p.m. Wednesday, and 9
 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 
Phillipsburg.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, February 17, 2023, in the 
Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Galen Larson 
officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the St. Thomas Cemetery, Stockton, 
KS.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Agra City Lake.

Kathleen Kay “Kathy” (Seifert) Bean, 73, of Solomon, KS, died 
Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Salina Regional Health Center.&nbsp; She was 
born May 30, 1949, in Ellsworth, KS, to Clinton “Butch” and Ella Mae 
(Kaufman) Seifert.

Kathy was raised in Russell, KS, and graduated as Salutatorian of the
 Russell High School class of 1967.&nbsp; She attended Bethany College and 
The University of Kansas, where she graduated with degrees in Journalism
 and Public Relations.&nbsp; She worked for KINA and KSAL radio stations in 
Salina.

Kathy was an avid bowler, participating in many state and national 
bowling tournaments and was inducted into the Salina Bowling Association
 Hall of Fame in 1995.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Dennis Bean; sisters, Annielaurie 
Seifert (Bill Modrzynski) of Lawrence, KS, Jeanine Seifert Arrighi (John
 Steitz) of St. Louis, MO, Dinah Seifert Heidrick (Steve) of Beloit, KS,
 and Tammy Seifert Albertson (Mark) of Petaluma, CA; sister-in-law, 
Karen Steffen, Junction City, KS; and several nieces and nephews.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents. Cremation services were provided by Ryan Mortuary and Crematory in Salina.

A celebration of life will be at The Alley (bowling alley), 115 East 
Ash Street, Salina, on Monday, February 13, 2023, from 11:30 a.m. until 
12:30 p.m.&nbsp; Her sisters and other family members will be there to meet 
and greet.

Memorials may be sent to Ryan Mortuary and Crematory, 137 North Eighth Street, Salina, KS 67401-2686, toward final expenses.

On February 7, 2023, Betty Lou Elder, PhD., RN, 69, beloved Daughter, 
Sister, and Aunt peacefully passed away after a short stay at Stormont 
Vail Hospital, Topeka, KS. 

Betty entered this world on September 13, 
1953, born to Orin W. Elder and Mary Lou (Dick) Elder in Red Cloud, 
Nebraska. Although preceded in death by her father, Betty enjoyed 
sharing the same birthday with her father. Also preceding her in death 
was her brother, William (Bill) Elder and nephew Hayden Elder. 
Betty is survived by her mother, Mary Lou Elder, her sister Carol Morris
 (Robert) of Hastings, Nebraska, and loving brother Robert Elder (Lori),
 Olathe, Kansas and her beloved Nieces, Torri Morris Colboch, Kim Seward
 and Nephews Jacob Elder, Garrett Elder and John Elder. 
Betty graduated from Smith Center High School, Smith Center, KS, class 
of 1971. After graduating from high school she pursued a Bachelor of 
Arts degree in Elementary Education from Kansas State University and 
Wichita State University. Betty earned many degrees over her lifetime 
including two PhDs, one in Genetics from Texas A&amp;M University and a
 PhD in Curriculum &amp; Instruction-Science Education from the 
University of Nebraska. 
Betty enjoyed a long and illustrious teaching career beginning in 1974 
as a 2nd grade teacher in Lakin, KS, and in 1976 as a 1st grade teacher 
in Beloit, KS. As an adventure she left Kansas to take a position as a 
park ranger in Yellowstone National Park and even was part of the forest
 fire team. She returned to the area and began her post-secondary 
teaching career at Fort Hays State University and at Texas A&amp;M 
University. She was an instructor at multiple colleges, Central 
Community College in Grand Island, NE, Johnson County Community College 
in Overland Park, KS and Bryan School of Nursing in Lincoln, NE. She 
joined Wichita State University teaching multiple courses for many years
 in the Nursing Department where she completed her teaching career 
retiring as an Associate Professor of Nursing in 2019. 
Betty’s career was important to her, however; her family was more 
important. She shared many wonderful occasions with nieces and nephews 
including traveling, camping, boating and tubing. She treated them all 
as if they were her own children. After moving to Topeka with her 
mother and father, she became a fulltime caregiver to both of her 
parents. In Topeka she received and cherished the love, support, and 
companionship from her niece, Torri. 
Betty enjoyed traveling, kayaking, and quilting. She was an avid Kansas
 State football fan and loved attending their bowl games, including the 
last one against Alabama in the Sugar Bowl on December 31, 2022. 
Visitation, Monday, February 13, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at 
Culbertson-Smith Mortuary, 115 S. Seneca St., Wichita, KS 67213, with 
service beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Seltzer Springs 
Cemetery, Wichita, KS.

Betty Lou Elder, PhD., RN

Kenneth Ray Brichacek, Salina, Kansas, died at home with his 
family at his side on February 9, 2023, at the age of 84.  He was born on
 July 24, 1938, in Sylvan Grove, Kansas, to Fred Stanley and Evelyn Marie
 (Barta) Brichacek.  He was married on June 21, 1964, to Anita Louise 
(Ulrich) at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Sylvan Grove, Kansas.  She 
survives of the home.

Kenneth was a collector of 
antiques and enjoyed going to auctions and flea markets.  He also 
enjoyed going to his granddaughters sporting events.

He
 is survived by his wife, Anita of Salina; daughter, Teresa (Gary) 
Stuart of Abilene; granddaughter, Madelyn Stuart of Abilene; nephew, 
Troy Bunch of Salina.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Jo Bunch.

A
 funeral service will be held Monday, February 13, 2023, at 2:00 PM, at 
Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home in Wilson.  Burial will follow at the 
Wilson City Cemetery.

LoAnn was born on March 9, 1941, in rural Hoisington, Kansas, as the first child of Homer and Alvina (Karst) Eurich.&nbsp; When her father died in an explosion, LoAnn was only a year old.&nbsp; Her mother then moved LoAnn and her sister Marjorie to the family farm with Alvina’s parents, William and Lydia Karst.&nbsp; The family’s language of choice was German until Alvina met and married Calvin Templeton, a soldier from West Virginia who had been stationed at Walker Air Force Base in Kansas.&nbsp; Calvin was a model stepfather, graciously raising both girls as his own.&nbsp; The family enjoyed country living until the two girls were of school age, when the family then moved into Russell.&nbsp; The family enjoyed the birth of another sister, Diana, then later, through adoption, the girls’ cousin Alan became their baby brother.&nbsp; LoAnn was active in many school activities, including the school marching band and even a dance band, playing the coronet (trumpet).&nbsp; She participated in gymnastics, and excelled in trampoline.&nbsp; LoAnn favored business classes (shorthand, bookkeeping and typing) and graduated near the top of her class.&nbsp; After high school, she worked at the Russell State Bank and later at the accounting firm now known as Gudenkauf &amp; Malone.&nbsp; She assisted the family in the woodworking businesses and ultimately worked out of the home as a self-employed bookkeeper for local businesses.

Several years after high school, LoAnn married her high school sweetheart, Gale Sechtem, and three children (Philip, John and Julie) were born to that union.&nbsp; She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church in Russell.&nbsp; She enjoyed cooking, hosting large family meals, watching tennis, KU Basketball and Kansas City Chiefs football.&nbsp; Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Surviving family include her sons, Phillip Sechtem and wife Josefina “Jo” of Provo, Utah; and John Sechtem of Russell, Kansas; and daughter, Julie Sechtem of Russell, Kansas; sister, Marjorie Reinhardt of Denver, Colorado; and brother Alan Templeton of Russell, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister Diana Brown.

A celebration of LoAnn’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Dorrance.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at the mortuary with family greeting guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Tuesday evening.&nbsp;

Carol Joan Reynolds, 93, Rush Center, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, 
February 8, 2023, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing 
Bed, La Crosse, Kansas.

Carol was born December 25, 1929, in Chase, Kansas, the daughter of 
Herman and Sarah (Scott) Bayer.&nbsp; She was a resident of Rush County, 
Kansas, for 70 years, moving from Chase, Kansas.&nbsp; She was a 1946 
graduate of Chase High School, Chase, Kansas, and received her Bachelor 
of Science Degree in Education from Fort Hays Kansas State College, 
Hays, Kansas.

On February 8, 1952, she married Bill Reynolds at the Community 
Presbyterian Church, Chase, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death December 
5, 1997.

Carol was a teacher for 41 years before her retirement on July 1, 
1994.&nbsp; She began her teaching career, and taught kindergarten at USD 403
 Otis-Bison.&nbsp; Along with her 41 years as a teacher, she tutored many 
students outside of her classroom, and was active in her local teachers 
association.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, Kansas; 
NEA (National Education Association); Kansas NEA; a former member of the
 State Library of Kansas Board, and she served a three year term on the 
Kansas Reading Circle Committee.

Carol volunteered at the Walnut Valley Senior Center, and the Rush 
Center Library, both of &nbsp;Rush Center, Kansas.&nbsp; She also volunteered for 
many church boards and women’s groups.

Survivors include:&nbsp; her daughter, Debra and Lee Oelkers, Hays, 
Kansas; two granddaughters, Carolyn and Scott Payne, and Michelle and 
Dylan Quigley; five grandchildren, Katie, Anna, and Stella Payne, and 
Aubrey and Kobie Quigley; and two sisters, Esther Delimont, Lebanon, 
Kansas, and Elizabeth Bomba, San Antonio, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, 
Floyd Bayer; three sisters, Elnora Bayer, Louise Carlson, and Shirley 
Schendzielos; and an infant sister.

Memorial service will be Monday, February 20, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at 
the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Pastor Scott 
Tempero officiating.&nbsp; A private family interment in the Locust Hill 
Cemetery, Rush Center, Kansas, has taken place.

Thomas "Tom" Allen Koerner, 79, Hays, 
died February 6, 2023, at home.&nbsp; He was&nbsp; born July 11, 1943, in Hays, KS to 
Joseph and Bertha (Miller) Koerner and grew up in Hays.

He married Sheila Sheck and later 
married Judy K. Giebler on June 11, 1977, in Hays. He was a&nbsp; 1961 
graduate of St. Joseph’sMilitary Academy, joined the Air Force after 
graduation and was stationed in Korea and Okinowa during the Viet Nam 
era. He was a City Commissioner 1975-79, received his degree in Criminal
 Justice and worked at Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility as 
Staff Development Specialist. Tom worked in Pest Control, Farmers State 
Bank Loan Officer and many different jobs.

His memberships included Immaculate 
Heart of Mary Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Third Degree Knights of 
Columbus Council #6984, and the Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Knights 
of Columbus Assembly. His careers in law enforcement were: Sergeant with
 Staff Development at Larned Mental Health Correctional Facility, Police
 Officer with the Hays Police Dept., Sheriff’s Deputy with Ellis County 
Sheriff’s Dept.

On January 3, 2009, he was ordained a 
Permanent Deacon with the Salina Diocese and served at Immaculate of 
Heart Mary Church in Hays, KS until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife of the home,
 a son, Scott Koerner (Vicki), daughter Christine Torres (Jesse), 
daughter Wanda Sue Keefover (Mike), son Bob Herman, brother Randy 
Koerner (Wanda); Sister-in-law Nancy Leiker, 7 grandchildren; 6 
step-grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, 15 step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents
 and a daughter Terra Davis,&nbsp; brothers Myron (Skip), Joseph Koerner, 
&amp; a brothers-in-law, Fred Weber, Jr., Lee Allan Leiker, a step great

Thomas 'Tom' Allen Koerner

Maurice “Joe” Farrell, 86, resident of Hill City, Kansas, passed away February 6, 2023, at the Graham County Hospital.

Joe
 was born May 25, 1936, in Rural Graham County on the family farm south 
of Hill City to James and Eunice (Herbert) Farrell. Being raised on a 
farm, Joe had a love for animals. He told his grandchildren numerous 
stories about the family’s dog, Gyp, and their Shetland pony Cricket. 
Joe attended IXL School (I Excel), which his grandparents had helped 
establish, located one mile south of the family farm through the eighth 
grade. Joe always told his children and grandchildren that getting to 
and from school was a one mile walk or run for him and his siblings. 
When Joe was in the eighth grade, his school was invited to Hill City to
 participate in a county track meet. He won a second-place ribbon in the
 100-yard dash. This inspired him to go out  for track at the Hill City 
Memorial High School where he held the high school track record in the 
mile for several years after he started teaching. During his time as a 
high school student, he participated in FFA, football, basketball, and 
track. He graduated in 1954.

Joe’s love for the farm 
and his admiration for his Vo-Ag teacher inspired him to become a Vo-Ag 
teacher himself. He started his college education at Fort Hays State 
College and then transferred to Kansas State College of Agriculture and 
Applied Science, earning a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Education 
in 1958. Joe also obtained his master’s degree from Kansas State 
University in 1973.

Joe married Ellen Engel in Ellis, 
Kansas, in 1959. Their family was completed with the arrival of their 
three children: MaDonna, Chris and Brian. Along with his work, he found 
time to educate his children on many of life’s enjoyments such as 
attending church and sporting events, going to the farm, boating, taking
 vacations and spending time with extended family.

Joe worked 
very hard as an educator for forty years. He lived and loved his work. 
Blending traditional concepts and new ideas into a firm philosophy 
provided the best education possible for his students. He received 
recognition from national, state, and local organizations too numerous 
to mention. His contribution to education is expanded through the lives 
of many students creating a legend in our community. After retiring from
 teaching in 2008, Joe helped his brother Robert with the farming 
operation. Ten years later they both went into full retirement enjoying 
sibling trips, family vacations, K-State sporting events, and golfing. 
Joe spent his life serving the Catholic Church. He was a 4th degree 
member of the Knights of Columbus.  During his retirement years, he sat 
on the Dawson Place and the Graham County Historical Society boards. 
Serving his church and community provided him much pleasure and 
satisfaction. Joe loved being a grandpa and great grandpa to his 15 
grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

 in death were his parents; brother John Farrell; sister Annie Riemann; 
grandson Grant Farrell; brothers-in law: Maurice Riemann, Ed Steichen,
 Eugene (Melba) Engel and Dwight Lowman; sisters-in-law, Betty (Bud) 
Weigel and Shirley Engel; and two special great aunts, Katherine Farrell
 and Mary Hinkhouse.

Joe is survived by his wife 
Ellen Farrell, Hill City; his children: MaDonna (Craig) Reiter, Beloit, 
Chris Farrell, Highlands Ranch, Colorado and Brian (Dena) Farrell, 
McPherson; Also surviving are MaDonna’s family: step grandchildren 
Loren and Bonnie Reiter and their children Triston and Hudson; Nick and 
Laura Reiter and daughter Rosemary; Adele and Josh Reiter-Nordin and 
children Penny and Silas; grandson Dustin Reiter and Aimee Wentworth and
 great granddaughter Ivy; Chris’s family: granddaughter Larissa and 
Ryan Prather and great grandson Jax; grandchildren: Josey Farrell, 
Olivia Farrell and Tommy Farrell; Brian’s family: granddaughter Kelsee 
and Donny Hildebrand and great granddaughters Emmalynn and Quinnlynn; 
step grandson Brandon and Karley Gaede and children Axel, Otto and 
expected granddaughter; step grandson Steven and Hannah Gaede; step 
grandson Lane Lippelmann; granddaughter Caitlin Farrell; and step 
granddaughter LaKynn Lippelmann, and deceased grandson Grant Farrell.
