Lois Ann (Claycamp) Blass was born the eldest of six children to Emil
 and Inez (Diers) Claycamp on January 16, 1934, in Hunter, Kansas. She 
passed peacefully at her home on March 7, 2023, at the age of 89 years, 1
 month, and 19 days. She was looking forward to joining her husband, 
children, and other family members in God’s kingdom.

On November 18, 1950, she was united in marriage with Jim Blass. 
Seven children were born to this union, Terry, Pat, Mike, Brenda, Barb, 
Joe, and George.

Lois always worked outside the home, as well as being a dedicated 
wife and mother. Lois was a friend to everyone. She was very patient 
with lots of good advice.

She was the glue that held the family together. She made sure that
 her family would eat, play, and laugh together. Lois loved getting the 
family together for reunions. She always made sure there was plenty of 
good food, as she was an excellent cook.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, James (Jim) Blass; her
 parents, Emil and Inez Claycamp; her siblings, Kathy Rines, Wilbur 
Claycamp, Louella Brunner, and Darrell Claycamp; daughter, Pat 
Weidenhaft; son, George Blass; grandson, Tanner Blass; and infant 
granddaughter Mulder.

Lois is survived by her loving children, Terry (Dan) Mulder of 
Phillipsburg, son-in-law, Joe Weidenhaft of Stockton, Mike (Chris) Blass
 of Beloit, Brenda (Jim) Tietjens of Glen Elder, Barb (Bob) Broughton of
 Las Vegas, Nevada, and Joe (Von) Blass of Santee, California; sister, 
Leota (Bill) McCarthy of Manhattan; 18 grandchildren; 35 
great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of 
relatives and friends.

She would want this as a celebration of her life, not sorrow for her death.

Funeral services will be at 2 PM Friday, March 17, at the Roberts 
Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 2-7 PM with family present 
from 5-7 PM Thursday, March 16, at the funeral home. The casket will 
remain closed. Memorials may be given to the Mitchell County Food Pantry
 or the Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.

Church. She was a member there, as well as attended services at Faith 
Community Church, and a member at Lake Barton Club. Merlyn enjoyed

spending time with God, both in prayer and studying the Bible. &nbsp;Much of 
her life with Bob was spent planting the seed of faith and ministering 
to others.

Wichita, Kan., Taylor Hommertzheim of Lawrence, Kan., Darius, Adalynn, 
and Leighton Meeker and Hadley Olsen, all of Great Bend, Kan.; one 
great-great-grandson, Braxton Drake of Wichita, Kan.; and honorary 
granddaughter, Christy Huslig of Great Bend, Kan. She is preceded in 
death by her husband; her parents; and two sisters, Haldine Smith and 
Dorothy Broughman.

Visitation will take place from noon to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 
2023, with family receiving guests from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Bryant

Merlyn Fay Henning

Clarence E. Niermeier was born on Friday the 13th of October 1949, in 
Colby, KS. The was the fifth of six children and only son born to Erich 
and Mildred (Dankert) Niermeier. He passed on to his Heavenly Home and 
ultimate life goal on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, in Oberlin, KS. 
On New Years Eve 1972, Clarence ventured to Herndon, KS, where he met 
his soul mate, Margaret Stoney. They were married June 3, 1972, and 
shared almost 51 years. This union was blessed with three sons: Bryan 
(Tanya), of Edmond, OK, Jayme (Jill), of Ludell and Chris (Kayla) of 
Ludell; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. 
Clarence enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country for two and a half years. 
Clarence was a very hard-working man and loved working beside his wife 
and sons. His favorite farm chore was fixing fence and watching baby 
calves play about. 
Clarence had great pride in the years that he worked for Atwood Township
 where, with the help of Norton Correctional Inmates, he built up Lake 
Atwood again to the beautiful feature it is today. They planted many 
trees and spent uncountable hours on a mower landscaping the grass. 
Clarence’s final request is that everyone learn to live their lives with love of each other and lots of laughter. 
A Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2023, 
at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Atwood, KS.

Clarence Erich Niermeier

Paul Dean Kuchera, 88, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2023, in Topeka, 
KS. He was born January 1, 1935, on the family farm near Munden in 
Republic County, KS to John W. and Irene Emma (Stepanek) Kuchera. 

Paul married Lois Arlene Erickson in Scandia, KS on May 25, 1958. They celebrated their 64th anniversary with family. 

He
 started his career as a junior high school teacher then owned and 
operated Mr. K’s Coffee Shop and sold Farm Bureau insurance before 
retiring with the Kansas Department of Transportation. He was a high 
school track coach for many years and a strong advocate for girls’ 
sports at the high school level. 

Paul served 26 years in the U.S.
 Army National Guard and was a member of the American Legion, Jaycees, 
Lincoln Masonic Lodge, Kansas Council on Aging, and Lincoln United 
Methodist Church where he was a lay minister for many years. He also 
volunteered often at the Lincoln Senior Center.

Paul is survived 
by his daughter Paula Currey (Steve) of Rose Hill, KS; son Joel Kuchera 
(Valerie) of Quinter, KS; daughter Saralyn Newell (Don) of Topeka; son 
Jon Paul Kuchera (Jane) of Wamego, KS; ten grandchildren and ten 
great-grandchildren; brother David Kuchera; and four nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lois Kuchera; and brother Jack Kuchera and his wife Gayle.

A memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 18, 2023 at the Lincoln United Methodist Church.

Paul Dean Kuchera

Rita Elizabeth (Hogan) Malin of Lawrence, Kansas, and former 
Plainville, Kansas, resident, died peacefully surrounded by her family on
 March 1, 2023, at Bridge Haven in Lawrence, Kansas.

Rita
 was born to Bill and Rita (Lindley) Hogan of Natoma, Kansas, on August 
9, 1933.  She grew up in Natoma and graduated from Natoma High School.

On
 August 22, 1951, she married Joseph Malin, the love of her life, and 
together they raised a family of nine children on their farm south of 
Plainville, Kansas.  She spent her last few years near family in 
Lawrence, Kansas.

Rita was a lifetime member of Sacred 
Heart Catholic Church in Plainville and an active member of the Sacred 
Heart Guild.  She was a charter member of the Daughters of Isabella 
Circle; serving in several offices including Regent.

Rita’s deep 
and abiding faith kept her uplifted and she always looked at life with a
 positive attitude.  She lived her faith and shared it with many others.
  For twenty-five years she taught Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) 
classes for Sacred Heart Parish.  She also helped organize and sing with
 the church’s choir and guitar group.

Music was an important part 
of Rita’s life.  She sang for many weddings and funerals and instilled a
 great love of music in all of her children.

Rita also 
loved spending hours reading to her children and grandchildren.  Her 
belief in the importance of education and especially of reading 
translated into decades of serving as a reading paraprofessional at 
Sacred Heart Elementary where she helped many boys and girls improve 
their reading skills.

Rita was a wonderful friend to 
the elderly, dedicating her time to visiting and entertaining residents 
of the nursing home and visiting and assisting shut-ins.

Rita
 had an infectious smile and was a people person.  Through her 
connections at church, school, friends and friends of all of her 
children, she seemed to know everyone in town.  She knew their parents 
and grandparents, who they married and the names of their children.  She
 was loved by so very many people.

Rita was preceded in
 death by her parents and sister, Patricia Clark.  She was also preceded
 in death by her husband of 59 years, Joe, and her son, Max.

She
 is survived by eight children: Lori (Dennis) Davidson of Russell, 
Kansas; Jed Malin of Ottawa, Kansas; Lois Malin of Kansas City, Kansas; 
Barb (Jason) Sheffer of Baxter Springs, Kansas; Steve (Emily) Malin of 
Lawrence, Kansas; Mike Malin (Susan Sharp) of Prairie Village, Kansas; 
Dave (Karrabi) Malin of Grapevine, Texas; and Christi (J.J.) Burnam of 
Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Rita is also survived by twenty grandchildren and six 
great-grandchildren.

Celebration of a Funeral Mass will
 be held at 10:30 am on Monday, March 27, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic
 Church in Plainville.  Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic 
Cemetery.  A vigil and rosary will be held at 7:00 pm, on Sunday, March 
26th, at Sacred Heart Church.  A book signing will be held Sunday, March 
26th, from 1:00 pm-5:00 pm at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home in 
Plainville.

Rita Elizabeth Malin

Orla Frederick “Fred” Behrens Jr., 95, passed away March 8, 2023, at
 his home in Great Bend. He was born on August 20, 1927, in Grant 
County, Okla., to Orla Frederick Behrens, Sr., and Mae Ruth (Aebi) 
Behrens.&nbsp;He married Dorothy B. Ratliff on September 17, 1950, in Council
 Grove, Kan. She died on December 9, 2017.

A long time Great bend resident, Fred was a truck driver for R.C. 
Williams Trucking. He was a member of First Christian Church, American 
Legion Post #180, and was a WW II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He 
enjoyed fishing, rock collecting, and making his own fine stone jewelry.

Survivors include, his son, Robert "Bob" Behrens and his wife Ruth of
 Great Bend; five grandchildren, Jason Behrens, Jennifer Cauley, Melissa
 Serrien (Greg), Michael Behrens and Brian Behrens; and six 
grandchildren, Sage, Sienna and Slade Cauley and Zachary, Sophie and 
Jeffrey Serrien. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, 
Dorothy; his son and daughter in law, Ross and Karen Behrens; a brother,
 James Behrens and an infant brother, Robert Behrens.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 10, 
2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 
to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March
 11, 2023, at First Christian Church, with Pastor Josh Leu presiding. 
Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery, with Military Rites 
conducted by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.

Behrens.&nbsp;He married Dorothy B. Ratliff on September 17, 1950, in Council
 Grove, Kan. She died on December 9, 2017.A long time Great bend resident, Fred was a truck driver for R.C. 
Williams Trucking. He was a member of First Christian Church, American 
Legion Post #180, and was a WW II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He 
enjoyed fishing, rock collecting, and making his own fine stone jewelry.Survivors include, his son, Robert "Bob" Behrens and his wife Ruth of
 Great Bend; five grandchildren, Jason Behrens, Jennifer Cauley, Melissa
 Serrien (Greg), Michael Behrens and Brian Behrens; and six 
grandchildren, Sage, Sienna and Slade Cauley and Zachary, Sophie and 
Jeffrey Serrien. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, 
Dorothy; his son and daughter in law, Ross and Karen Behrens; a brother,
 James Behrens and an infant brother, Robert Behrens.Visitation will be held from Noon to 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 10, 
2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 
to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March
 11, 2023, at First Christian Church, with Pastor Josh Leu presiding. 
Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery, with Military Rites 
conducted by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Memorials have been designated

Linda Lou DeWees, 76, of Manhattan, KS passed away Thursday, March 2,
 2023. Linda was born in Wichita, Kansas on March 2, 1947, the daughter 
of the late Levi R. and Theresa Ann (Belick) DeWees.

Linda
 was an educator in numerous schools and was a teacher at the time of 
her retirement from Topeka West High School. She graduated from Norton

Betty Maxine Krier passed away March 6, 2023, at the Mitchell County 
Hospital Resident Care Center in Beloit, Kansas, at the age of 93. Betty 
was born March 28, 1929, on the family farm southeast of Glen Elder, 
Kansas, the daughter of Lloyd and Grace Schaffer Golladay.

She attended Honey Creek District 21 school, which is now known as
 “The Little Red School House” located on Highway 24 in Beloit.

Betty graduated from Beloit High School with the class of 1947. 
She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a telephone 
operator for over 30 years, before retiring in 1978.

Betty was united in marriage to Leon F. Krier on November 19, 1983,&nbsp; at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Beloit. They lived in Tipton for 
several years before they moved back to Beloit. Betty was a member of 
St. John’s Catholic Church, the Ladies Guild, was a life member of the 
VFW in Beloit, and a devoted member of the Telephone Pioneers. She was 
also a past member of the American Legion, as well as the Rose Valley 
Club of Tipton. She was a co-owner of Krier Farm Supply with her husband
 Leon for over 32 years.

She also loved to bowl, and bowled for over 30 years, winning 
several trophies. She also loved to travel, and went to Switzerland, 
Germany, France, and South America, and got to go through the Panama 
Canal.

Betty loved going to coffee with her friends at Gray’s Drug 
Store and Soda Fountain, and missed seeing them greatly. We would like 
to thank her coffee group for watching over Betty prior to going to RCC;
 Lindsey Gray and Gina Chitty. Her family would also like to thank the 
doctors and nurses, and staff at RCC and the Mitchell County Hospital 
for such wonderful care in recent years. She loved being at RCC.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Leon; her parents, 
Lloyd and Grace Golladay; brother Robert Golladay; sister, Joan 
Guard-Thomas; and a niece and nephew, Greg and Peg Guard.

Survivors include her niece, Gayla Guard of Merriam, Kansas; 
nephews, Gary Guard of Hays and Chris Golladay of Salina; sister-in-law,
 Delores Golladay of Salina; brother-in-law, Marvin Thomas of Hays; 
cousin, Jerry Rehmert of Beloit; and many great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 AM Monday, March 13, at the Roberts 
Family Funeral Home. A rosary service will be at 10 AM Monday at the 
funeral home, &amp; visitation will be prior to the services. In lieu of
 flowers, memorials may be given to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or 
the St. John's Education Fund.

Robert Lewis Alberts, 74, died March 5, 2023, at Medicalodges of 
Great Bend. He was born June 18, 1949, in Greeley, Colorado, the son of 
Lewis E. and Arlene E. (Shore) Alberts.&nbsp;

On June 17, 1980, he married Wilma Smith in Adams County, Colorado, she preceded him in death on October 29, 2018.

Robert was a longtime resident of Colorado, moving to Hoisington 
after his retirement. He worked in the construction business as a heavy
 equipment operator and in hazmat tank testing in Colorado. Robert was a
 good mechanic who loved kids and enjoyed tinkering, so found himself 
fixing up old bikes for children in his spare time.&nbsp; He was known as a 
big kid himself that enjoyed giving those around him a good-natured hard
 time.

He is survived by his four daughters, Jennifer Vance of Hoisington, 
Tammy Kite (Geoff) of Louisiana, Terri Madrid of Wichita, and Jacqueline
 Rollins of Evergreen, Colorado; a sister, Gerry Cutler of California; 
his best friend, Rod Dilker of Hoisington; twelve grandchildren, &nbsp;Sasha 
Riedel, Passion Snyder, Trinity Vance, Memphis Vance, Travis Rollins, 
Carley Rollins, Amanda Kite, Tasha Kite, Geoff Kite, Jr., Marci Madrid, 
Talia Madrid, and Joseph Madrid; six great grandchildren, Bentlee 
Riedel, Carson Riedel, Arabella Snyder, Nicholas Snyder, Abby Kite, and

Wanda Lee Viola (Monroe) Gano, born in Graham County, Kansas, May 30, 
1933, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus on the 
morning of March 3, 2023, at the age of 89 years old.

Wanda
 spent her early childhood in Graham County. Then she moved with her 
mother Viola, and stepdad, Hobart Goff, to Tacoma, Washington in the 
midst of World War II where Hobart served as a welder building ships for
 the US Navy and Viola served in areas of support work for the Navy. 
While in Tacoma, Wanda recalled that she and her sister, Wilma, would 
often go to movies on Saturdays. At the close of World War II, the 
family moved back to Graham County Kansas where Wanda continued her 
education in local schools.

At the age of 14, while
 attending church services in Morland, Kansas, she felt someone was 
watching her. It just so happened to be the young man that she would 
marry someday. His name? Gordon Gano. A short time later the pastor of 
the church asked Gordon if he would give Wanda a ride home after one of 
the church services. He gladly obliged. Love blossomed and grew into a 
loving, lasting relationship of marriage and family.

October 
3, 1950, Gordon and Wanda were united in marriage and ultimately 
celebrated 64 years of marriage before Gordon passed away March 20, 
2015. They began married life by building a home in southwest Graham 
County and farmed with Gordon’s family.

Their first of 
four children, Jerry Gordon Gano, was born the first summer of their 
married life. Three years later on the same summer date, a second boy, 
Gary Jordon Gano, was born into the family. Then, some 15 months later 
brother Larry Dwayne Gano joined the family. And finally, about four 
years later, Clifford Kerry Gano, was delivered into the family to make 
it complete.

Some of the highlights of family life 
over the years included: annual summer vacations; fishing trips to local
 creeks, ponds, and lakes; going to church whenever the doors were open;
 and working together on the family farm.

In earlier years of 
family life, Gordon and Wanda worked to raise large gardens, as well as 
care for some rabbits, chickens, pigs, and cattle. Wanda was always busy
 baking, cooking, and sewing, not only to adequately provide for her 
family, but to be a blessing to others as much as possible. Her homemade
 breads were the best in the world (at least in our humble opinion). She
 also enjoyed reading, and when done with books she had purchased, she 
would delightfully pass them along to others, to enjoy reading.  
She always saw to it that her boys were taken to the library in hopes 
they would acquire a love for reading. In later years, Wanda and Gordon 
had the opportunity and privilege to take extended trips to places such 
as: The Holy Lands, Mexico, Hawaii, Aruba, and a Caribbean cruise.

In
 Wanda’s most recent years, she became a regular contributor to the Hill
 City Times newspaper, submitting personal stories from her life and 
faith. Many in the community truly enjoyed reading them and always 
looked forward to more. Wanda also continued to live out her strong 
faith and prayer ministry. She was a prayer warrior by no stretch of the
 imagination. Something special she did, as led by the Lord, was to 
organize prayer cloths that were sent to family members in great need. 
This act of faith and prayers did, in fact, bring about healing and 
encouragement to those specific needs. Praise the Lord!

Wanda
 loved her family. But more importantly, she loved the Lord and the 
Lord’s Church. She exemplified a Proverbs 31 woman, lived and served her
 life as unto the Lord, and was faithful and generous with what the Lord
 blessed her with. Her faith and relationship with God certainly would 
have inspired untold people. Wanda has entered her well-deserved eternal
 rest, and now stands before her Lord hearing the kind, gentle, loving 
words spoken to her, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

 is preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Viola and Hobart; 
her husband, Gordon; a daughter-in-law, LaDonna; a sister, Wilma; a 
brother, Tom; four baby great-grandchildren: twins:  Tamika Sue Sanders 
and Camille Ann Sanders, Blake Lee Gano and Andy Gene Gano; and in 
addition, numerous other extended family members. Surviving family 
members include four sons:  Jerry of Hill City, Kansas; Gary (Vickie) 
Gano of Hays, Kansas; Larry (Anita) Gano of Colbert, Washington; and 
Clifford (Janet) Gano of Jasonville, Indiana; 13 grandchildren; 40 
great-grandchildren; and in addition, numerous other extended family 
members. Wanda leaves behind her family and friends.

We pray God’s 
comfort over each of them. Her stay at Dawson Place of Hill City was a 
blessing and a place where she appreciated the love and care of staff 
and fellow residents.

 on March 7th, 2023. Paul was born on July 30th, 1936, to Thomas Junk 
and Anna Krier in Osborne, KS. Paul was the youngest of 13 who have all 
preceded him in death. He graduated in 1955 from J.K. Mullen High School
 in Fort Logan, CO,&nbsp;&nbsp; where he was very active in sports. In 1956, he 
joined the US Navy where he served honorably.

 wife, Carol Albers. They were married for 59 years and had two 
children, Mike, and Michelle. In 1969, Paul started a cabinet company, 
Crestwood Inc. The business originated out of a small shop in south 
Salina and grew into a burgeoning custom cabinet business that is known 
nationwide and employs around 150 people in the Salina area. Paul was 
not afraid of taking risks and pursing what he did best, building things
 and working with his hands. He had an uncanny ability to imagine a tool
 for a particular purpose and invent it himself. He decided to start the
 business after having to discard low quality cabinets that he had 
ordered for a house he was building.&nbsp; He said to himself, “If they can 
build them that bad, I can too” and that’s how it started.

Paul demonstrated tremendous dedication and devotion to his family, 
community, and church. He was a devout Catholic and was active in Saint 
Mary’s Parish throughout his life. Paul served on the board of directors
 for several Salina businesses and charities. He was inducted into the 
Salina Business Hall of Fame, which honors small business leaders who 
have made extraordinary contributions to Salina. He was a member of 
Salina Country Club and was an avid golfer throughout his life.

Paul was a loving and supportive husband and father. He was blessed 
with six beautiful grandchildren, five of which lived down the block and
 often spent more time at their grandparent’s house than their own. Paul
 was an outstanding role model for his entire family. He instilled the 
value of hard work, humility, forgiveness, and love. Indeed, he left the
 world a better place.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Junk of Salina KS; his children 
Michelle (Katrina Schulze) Haines of Kansas City, Mike (Katie) Junk of 
Salina; six grandchildren, Haley (Will) Humphrey of Kansas City, Hannah 
Junk of Omaha NE, Kyler, Elyse, Tessa, and Eli Junk of Salina.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Mary’s Parish 
Saturday March 11th at 10 am. Burial will be held at the All Saints 
Catholic Cemetery. Visitation celebrating Paul’s life will be held at 
Ryan Mortuary on Friday, March 10th, from 5pm-7pm. Vigil services will be 
held at 7pm.

 on March 7th, 2023. Paul was born on July 30th, 1936, to Thomas Junk 
and Anna Krier in Osborne, KS. Paul was the youngest of 13 who have all 
preceded him in death. He graduated in 1955 from J.K. Mullen High School
 in Fort Logan, CO,&nbsp;&nbsp; where he was very active in sports. In 1956, he 
joined the US Navy where he served honorably.He moved to Salina, KS in his early 20s, where he met and married his

Paul E. Junk 

Lucy W. (Tholen) Herrmann, 95, was born on February 5, 1928, on the 
farm south of Walker, Ks. She passed peacefully at Medicalodge, Kinsley 
on March 5, 2023, surrounded by her children.

Lucy’s childhood was spent in Walker, and she attended high school in
 Gorham, KS while living with her sister, Laurine. Lucy was the youngest
 of seven girls born to Ulrich and Mary (Griese) Tholen. Leona, Laurine,
 Luella, Lucille, Lillian, Luverna, and Lucy.

After she graduated the family moved to Hays and attended Fort Hays 
where she studied voice and piano for a year. During the summers she 
lived with Luella, her sister, and helped with her family. This is when 
she met Quentin Herrmann. Quentin and Lucy were married April 12, 1948, 
at St. Ann’s in Walker, KS. They lived on the farm north of Sts. Peter 
&amp; Paul from 1948-1983 before moving into Kinsley.

Lucy was active in Edwards County Extension, Sts. Peter &amp; Paul 
parish, sorority, Red Hat Society, and monthly birthday breakfast. Lucy 
was a member of St. John’s Circle of Daughters of Isabella and was a 
Deanery President and very active in the Council of Catholic Women. Lucy
 played the organ and taught others to play for Mass. Quentin and Lucy 
had a dairy until 1983 and it was her job to feed the baby calves. After
 the kids were raised Lucy went to work for Kansas Power &amp; Light at 
the Kinsley office.

She would tell you to wear the high heels until your body won’t let 
you, was the biggest fan at any sporting event she attended of her 
grandchildren (maybe yelled at a ref or maybe even a coach), apologized 
for yelling at said people up until recently, loved liked a storybook 
grandma. Lucy loved to watch volleyball. Lucy was an avid reader and 
passed that passion on to her family. She loved to read about World War 
II, mysteries and biographies&nbsp;but would read about anything.

Lucy is survived by Dee Kaster (Gary) Burlington, Co., Michael 
Herrmann (Jana), Kinsley, KS. She was preceded in death by her husband 
Quetin, daughters Patricia Bates (Jerry) and Mary Beth Herrmann. She is 
also survived by her grandchildren Heather Kaster (Scott), Grant Kaster,
 Tonya (Herrmann) Taylor (Brian), Jennifer (Herrmann) Kurth (Trevor), 
Alisha Herrmann (Trista), Elizabeth (Walstrom) Kehrwald (Caleb), Brent 
Bates &amp; Monica Hernandez. She also delighted in her 
great-grandchildren, Levi, Luke &amp; Laci Taylor; Carter, Carre &amp; 
Carmela Kurth; Colby Silva, and Dylan &amp; Ryan Kehrwald.

Funeral services will be held on Friday March 10, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. 
at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Kinsley with Fr. Ben Green 
presiding.&nbsp; Burial will follow at Sts. Peter &amp; Paul cemetery.&nbsp; Vigil
 will be held Thursday March 9th, 2023, at 7 p.m. with family present 
from 6 - 7 p.m.

Brenda (Stagner) Markley, 79, joined her Heavenly Father on 
Saturday, March 4, 2023. Memorial Service will be at 10:00 am, Friday, 
March 10, 2023, at Westview Church, Hays, KS. 

Brenda Kay Markley 
was born July 28, 1943, to Dale and Daisy (Wise) Stagner in Hays, KS. 
Brenda was a woman of strong faith and had a close relationship with her
 church family. She graduated in 1961 from Plainville High School and 
went on to cosmetology school in Wichita, KS. She married Don Markley in
 1962 and they later divorced. They had one daughter in 1967. Dana was 
her mom’s pride and joy! In 1973, they moved to Hays, KS where she and 
Don owned MarkIII Oil Company until 1987. Brenda also owned two hair 
salons in Hays, Salon Unique and The Ultimate Touch.

Brenda moved 
to Kansas City in 1990 and then back to Hays to be closer to family in 
1998 where she worked at Duane’s Design until 2006. She recently moved 
to Wichita where be closer to her daughter.

She had a passion for 
flowers, her “little man” Tucker, and Karen Kingsbury books, as well as 
precious time spent with her “Punkin” Dana.

Preceded in death by 
her parents, Dale and Daisy (Wise) Stagner; sister, Shannon Larsen. 
Survived by her daughter, Dana and wife, Kim, Markley; siblings, Paul 
(Dave Ludwig) Stagner, Pam (Jay) Mongeau, Lois (Butch) Post, Debbie

Marvin Bryan Miller, 89, of Claflin, Kansas, and former Russell, 
Kansas, resident, died on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at his home in 
Claflin surrounded by his family.

Marvin was born on June 17, 1933 in Paradise, Kansas, the son of 
Vernon and Fay (Stielow) Miller.&nbsp; He grew up in the Paradise, Kansas, 
area on the family farm and attended local schools.&nbsp; He met, fell in 
love, and was united in marriage to Shirley Jean Schumaker on October 9, 1954, in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; From this union Marvin and Shirley were 
blessed with four children Linda, Debra, Marlene and Bryan.&nbsp; He served 
his country by enlisting in the Army National Guard.&nbsp; He worked most all
 his life in the oil and gas industry as an oilfield pumper and finished
 his career working for Jayhawk Well Service.&nbsp; He also was owner and 
operator of Marv’s Gutter Service.&nbsp; He was a longtime member of St. Mary
 Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell.&nbsp; He was also a longtime 
member of the National Rifle Association, American Legion Post #99 and 
the Elks Lodge of Russell.&nbsp; He enjoyed farming, tinkering, fixing 
things, fishing, hunting, carpentry and was an avid bird watcher.&nbsp;

Surviving family include his daughters Linda Michaelis and husband 
Dan of Claflin, Kansas, Debra Miller of Russell, Kansas, Marlene Harris 
and husband John of Raymore, Missouri and son Bryan Miller of Russell, 
Kansas and 5 grandchildren Fay Woods, Reese Eulert, Angela Meyer, Marty 
Michaelis and Kelly Bachar; 11 great grandchildren Brooke, Bailee and 
Brent Bachar, Owen &amp; Even Michaelis, Elsie, Scarlet, Ada and Hugh 
Woods and Eddie and Veda Meyer and a brother Raymond Miller of 
Hutchinson, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley on December 23,
 2020, 3 brothers Dean, Frankie and Wayne and , 2 sisters Helen 
Wrightsman and Vernita Spreier.

A catholic graveside service will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, March
 10, 2023, at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Russell, Kansas with 
Father Mike Elan officiating.&nbsp; Cremation has been selected by the

St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell.&nbsp; She was also a 
member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, T.O.P.S., and was an active member 
and leader of the Girl Scouts.&nbsp; She enjoyed sewing, crafts, cooking, 
reading cook books, Daniel Steel books, butterflies, pets and going to 
Wilson Lake.&nbsp; Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.&nbsp; 
She especially enjoyed time with her children, grandchildren and great

Shumaker. A Catholic graveside service will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday, March 10, 2023, at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Russell, Kansas with Father Mike Elan officiating. Cremation has been selected by the family. The service will be held for <a href="https://hayspost.com/posts/bc0adb99-d166-4d1e-9bc8-fed37bf10135">both Shirley and her husband Marvin</a> and burial of the ashes will follow the graveside service.&nbsp;Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary

Mass of Christian burial for Leon A. Romme, 77, Lawrence, will be held
 at 10 a.m., Friday, March 10, 2023, St. John Catholic Church in 
Lawrence.&nbsp; Military graveside inurnment will be held at a later date in 
Great Bend, KS. Leon passed peacefully March 1, 2023, at LMH Health in 
Lawrence.

Leon was born September 2, 1945, in Victoria, Kansas, the son of Ray and Magdalena (Kuhn) Romme.

Leon began working for EMR, Inc. as a Project Manager in 1991 in 
Lawrence until the company transferred him to Fort Worth, TX. in 1997. 
Upon his retirement in 2016, Leon and Jolene moved back to Lawrence to be
 close to family.

Leon was proud of his service as a United States Marine and served 
during Vietnam. He was his son’s and their friend’s Biggest Fan.&nbsp; He was
 extremely proud that his two sons had the opportunity to play for the 
storied Lawrence High Football program.

He was an avid sports fan.&nbsp; He enjoyed NASCAR, playing cards and 
dominos, wood working and yardwork. He was very proud of his lawn!

His passion for dogs was evident with his three Boxers (Buster, Gordy
 &amp; Deuce) which gave him joy.&nbsp; He was a reader and loved and 
practiced his Catholic Faith.

Leon married Jolene Steinbacher on September 18, 1971, in Great Bend, KS.&nbsp; She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Bradley and Brett Romme both of 
Lawrence, KS, his sister Dolores Schmeidler of Hays, KS; several 
brother-in-law’s and sister -in-law’s and nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was 
preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law, Vera 
and Paul Schmidtberger who helped raise him, his brothers, Robert, 
Thomas and Donald; his nephews, Steven Schmidtberger and Thomas Romme Jr. and several brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws.

Leon loved his immediate family, his extended family, and his 
friends.&nbsp; There is nothing he would not do for them when someone was in 
need.

The family will say a rosary at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at
 Warren-McElwain Mortuary with the visitation to follow from 5-7 p.m.

The family suggests memorial contributions to St. John Catholic 
Church or to Wounded Warrior Project and may be sent in care of 
Warren-McElwain Mortuary 120 W. 13th St. Lawrence, KS 66044.

Services for Deana Reimer, 76, Lawrence, will be at 2pm Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home.

Deana left this world peacefully on Sunday, March 5th, 2023.

She was born on October 19, 1946, in Neodesha, KS, the daughter of 
Arlie Dale Hixon and Bonniemae Hixon. She graduated from Pawnee Rock 
High School in 1964 and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and 
English in 1968 and her Master’s degree in 1983 in school administration
 from Fort Hays State University.

Deana and Keith were married June 11, 1966, in Pawnee Rock, KS, they 
settled in Dodge City, KS, in 1968 and later moved to Lawrence, KS, in 
2002.

Deana started her work in education in the Cimarron school district 
teaching English and Spanish to students of all ages. Deana began 
working in Migrant Education in 1990.

She dedicated her life to helping migrant families and continued 
until her retirement in 2004. Deana enjoyed spending time with her 
family, especially her grandkids.

Deana shared her love for the KC Chiefs and KU Jayhawks with anyone 
who would listen. She enjoyed spending time on ‘Lucy’ her iPad, sending 
messages and jokes at all hours of the day and night. Deana never met a 
stranger and always had a hug and joke to give. She was an inspiration 
to all that met her, loved being on stage and left everyone with a smile
 on their face and a “Deana” story.

Deana is survived by her husband Keith; son Tyson (Val) Lawrence; 
daughter Keena Schmidt (Chet) Lawrence; five grandchildren, Crosby, 
Rileigh, Ava, Caeson, and Greysen; two brothers, Larry Hixon (Ronda) 
Pawnee Rock, KS ; Jon Hixon (Karen) Storm Lake, IA; sister-in-law Sally 
Hixon, Howard CO; many nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog Skeeter.

Deana was preceded in death by her brother Jerry Hixon and parents, Dale and Bonniemae Hixon.

The family suggest memorials be made to the Interstitial Cystitis

Luke Leon Stricker, 63, of&nbsp;Winona, Kansas, and former Milberger, Kansas, resident, died on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at the Wilson Care and Rehabilitation Center in Wilson, Kansas. &nbsp;

Luke was born on March 27, 1959, in Russell,&nbsp;Kansas, the son of Leon Henry and Carla June (Pruter) Stricker. &nbsp;He grew up on the family farm in Milberger and graduated from Russell High School in the class&nbsp;of 1977. &nbsp;He was blessed with two children Jenna and&nbsp;Shawn. &nbsp;Luke worked&nbsp;as a farmer on the family farm but also worked&nbsp;selling farming machinery throughout&nbsp;Kansas and Nebraska. &nbsp;He was a longtime member of the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger, Kansas. &nbsp;He enjoyed watching Kansas University&nbsp;basketball&nbsp;and&nbsp;selling farming machinery. &nbsp;Most of all he enjoyed being outdoors and working the family farm and spending time with his family.

Surviving&nbsp;family&nbsp;include&nbsp;his daughter Jenna Shank of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, and son Shawn Stricker and wife Ashley of Winona, Kansas; brothers Kirk Stricker&nbsp;and&nbsp;wife&nbsp;Joni of Wichita, Kansas, and John Stricker&nbsp;of Anderson, South Carolina, and 6 grandchildren. &nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents.

A graveside service to celebrate Luke’s life will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at the Milberger Cemetery in Milberger, Kansas. &nbsp;Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 6 P.M. on Monday, March 13, 2023, at the&nbsp;mortuary.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She is survived by her husband, Rex of the home; children: Krisiti Ann Ballard (Russell) of Louisville,KY, Jennifer Lynn Lawrence (Renee) of Bakersfield, CA, and Beck Morgan Whipple of Louisville, KY, Brett Moubry (Angela) of Downs, Lisa Boden (Brad) of Osborne; 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; brother, Reuben David Weaver of St. Louis, MO; sister, Aletha Calvert of Clinton, MO, nieces, nephews and a large host of friends.
