
Evelyn Delores Zimmerman, 88, of Colby, died Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Citizens Medical Center, Colby. She was born January 16, 1935, in Flagler, CO, to Homer and Marjorie (Clemans) Mundell. Evelyn was raised by her grandmother, Frances Adolph, and graduated from Winona High School.
She then married Doyle J. Zimmerman on June 14, 1953, in Colby. To this union four children were born. Evelyn was a talented seamstress and made the kids clothing. She spent many years as a crossing guard for Colby Elementary School. In 1974, Doyle and Evelyn purchased Hi-Plains Implement.
Evelyn went to work as the secretary and enjoyed working
side-by-side with her husband until their retirement in 1999. In her
free time, Evelyn enjoyed bowling, gardening, riding motorcycles,
cooking and cheering on KU Basketball. She also liked fishing and going
to Trenton Lake. Evelyn had a sharp memory and enjoyed visiting during
their regular “Saturday Night Friends Night.”
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Doyle; brothers, Cy,
Don, Jerry, Rich and Walt and grandson Mitchell Zimmerman.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Deb (Bob) Hedge, of Salina, KS,
Michael (Lynn) Zimmerman, of Hays, KS, Diana (Tim) Flohrschutz, of
Union, MO, and Darla (Bruce) Jarmer, of Colby; grandchildren, Miranda
(Dalton) Marshall, Janessa Hedge, Audrey (Mike) Farmer, Nathan
(Magdalene) Zimmerman, Drew (Amy) Zimmerman, Skylar Zimmerman, Tim Jr.
(Salina) Flohrschutz, Tera (John) Toms, Chelsey (Aimee) Ferguson, Devan
(Dane) Zielinski, Aylse (Dylan) Moss and Dylan Dumler; 18 great
grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Irelyn Marshall, Kyler, Zach, Carson and
Zaden Farmer, Hunter, Grayson and Amelia Flohrschutz, Maddisyn,
Ellyannah, Trenton and Blake Toms, Everett and Etta Ferguson, Kaiden
Zielinski, and Stella and Sutton Moss; 1 great-great grandchild, Blake
Farmer; and sisters, Marilyn Ayers and Judy Bastian.
Visitation is 4-6:00 p.m., with a Vigil at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, April 23,
2023, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. Funeral Mass is at 10:00 a.m. Monday,
April 24, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colby, with burial in
Beulah Cemetery, Colby.
