“Shoot for the stars.” That can be inspiring advice. Today we’ll meet a young woman from rural Kansas who followed that advice - not just as a dream, but as a career. Thanks to the K-Stater magazine, the K-State Alumni Association, and writer Ashley Pauls for this story.&nbsp;

Kristine Larson Davis is a spacesuit engineer at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. She grew up at Galva in McPherson County. As a kid, she looked up at the stars and dreamed about exploring the universe.&nbsp;

Her parents would often take her to the Cosmosphere space museum in Hutchinson.&nbsp;&nbsp;That museum helped make the wonders of the universe feel just a little bit closer. In middle school, she had the opportunity to attend space camp and heard that one of the best ways to work at NASA was to become an engineer.&nbsp;

“I loved space and decided then I wanted to become a mechanical engineer to work for NASA one day,” Kristine said. “I carried that goal through high school and college, and it helped me get to where I am today.”&nbsp;

Kristine came to K-State where she earned a degree in mechanical engineering and a minor in leadership studies. She enjoyed participating in organizations such as the&nbsp;Society of Women Engineers and attended several of the society’s annual conferences across the country.&nbsp;“It was so inspiring to see so many successful women in engineering, and all the opportunities available to me,” Kristine said.&nbsp;

She also studied abroad at Czech Technical University her sophomore year. She said the experience opened her eyes to other cultures and really pushed her out of her comfort zone.&nbsp;

“I will never forget all the long hours spent in the College of Engineering Library, and mechanical engineering computer labs,” Kristine said. “I made lifelong friends during those late nights.”&nbsp;

While at K-State, she learned about NASA’s Pathways Program which provides an opportunity to work and explore space-related careers while still in school. Kristine did four internship rotations with&nbsp;Johnson Space Center and started full-time there after graduating in December 2015.&nbsp;

Today, Kristine Larson Davis is a spacesuit engineer at NASA, helping to prepare for the Artemis missions. The goal of the NASA Artemis program is to land the first woman and next&nbsp;man on the moon by 2024, eventually taking “the next&nbsp;giant leap,” which is sending astronauts to Mars.&nbsp;

Specifically, Kristine is working on elements of the pressure garment of the Exploration Extravehicular Mobility Unit which will serve as the spacesuit for the Artemis missions.&nbsp;

“My tasks range from project management and systems engineering, to testing hardware and understanding how well it works for our future astronauts,” Kristine said. “I love that I get to work&nbsp;on the Artemis spacesuit, which will enable future exploration.&nbsp;My favorite days are when I get to be the test subject,&nbsp;and experience what it is like to be in a pressurized spacesuit.”&nbsp;

Recently, Davis had the opportunity to lead a test series of a prototype spacesuit in the Neutral Buoyancy Lab (NBL). The NBL is an astronaut training facility and neutral buoyancy pool that helps simulate the microgravity astronauts encounter in space.&nbsp;

“As test lead, I had to get all the support equipment ready, work through all the paperwork and safety reviews, schedule and then execute each test,” Kristine said. “It felt great when we finished up our last NBL run, and completed a safe, successful test series.”&nbsp;

“I hope that after the 2024 Artemis missions, NASA continues to grow humanity’s presence in our solar system with longer-term missions on the moon and one day, a mission to Mars,” she said.&nbsp;

It’s exciting to see such vision from a young woman from the rural community of Galva, Kansas, population 870 people. Now, that’s rural.&nbsp;

Now That’s Rural: Kristine Larson Davis, space engineer 

ROOKS COUNTY —One person died in an accident just after 7p.m. Thursday in Rooks County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2004 Chevy Silverado driven by Alec Hrabe, 57, Stockton, was eastbound on K Terrace, one mile west of U.S. 183, one mile south of Stockton.

The driver lost control on a curve. The pickup entered the north ditch, hit a washout, slid sideways, rolled onto its side and ejected the driver.

Hrabe was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to&nbsp;Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.

GREAT BEND —The Barton County Health Department has identified a positive case of COVID-19 involving a person who was at Maria’s Mexican Grill in Great Bend on Monday, August 24 through Wednesday August 26, 2020, according to a media release.

 Individuals who visited Maria’s Mexican Grill on those dates may have been exposed to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Barton County Health Department encourages those who were at the restaurant during the identified days and times to monitor themselves for symptoms of COVID-19 for 14 days. Symptoms include fever, cough, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, fatigue, diarrhea, and/or shortness of breath/difficulty breathing.

If symptoms develop, please stay home and contact your health care provider for guidance on testing. In an emergency, please call 911 and notify first responders that you were potentially exposed to COVID-19 and, if possible, wear a cloth face mask before they arrive.

 will be closed between Hillcrest and Walnut streets and will remain 
closed until further notice. The traveling public is asked to avoid the

The university conferred 169 graduate degrees (master’s, Education Specialist and Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees), 526 bachelor’s degrees, and 11 associate degrees. Of those, one student graduated with two degrees. Graduates who requested privacy are included in the count but omitted from this listing.

TOPEKA – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued a Nitrate Advisory
for the city of Lucas public water supply system in Russell County.
Customers should observe the following precautions until further notice:


➢ DO NOT GIVE THE WATER TO INFANTS. Infants below the age of six months who drink
water containing nitrate higher than the maximum contaminant level (MCL) could become
seriously ill and, if untreated, may die.


• Juice, formula and food for children under six months of age should not be prepared with tap
water. Bottled water or other water low in nitrates should be used for infants until further
notice.


➢ DO NOT BOIL THE WATER. Boiling, freezing, filtering, or letting water stand does not reduce
the nitrate level. Excessive boiling can make the nitrates more concentrated, because nitrates
remain behind when the water evaporates.


➢ ADULTS AND CHILDREN older than six months can drink the tap water (nitrate is a concern
for infants because they can’t process nitrates in the same way adults can). However, if you are
pregnant or have specific health concerns, you may wish to consult your doctor.


The city will provide free of charge an alternate source of drinking water for all infants less than six
months of age, pregnant women, and other at-risk customers as identified by a health care provider.
Alternate water will be available for customer pick-up at the Home Oil and Service Convenience Store,
5499 Hwy 18. Residents must present a coupon from the City of Lucas in order to receive the bottled
water. Coupons are available at the Lucas Civic Center, 201 S. Main.


The advisory took effect on September 3 and will remain in effect until the conditions that placed the
system at risk of contamination are resolved. Only KDHE can rescind this Nitrate Advisory following
testing at a certified laboratory.

The Macon, Mo., product still ranks second in career pass attempts and is third in career passing yards and completions and is tied for third in career passing touchdowns — records that stood for over 25 years.

His 458 pass attempts in the 1985 season still tops the record books as the most in a single-season in FHSU history and his 63 pass attempts vs. Pittsburg State during the 1983 season is still the most by a Tiger in a single game as is his 465 passing yards vs. then Kearney State in 1985.

🎧 Defend the Fort Podcast: Robert Long

Dr. Christianna Pruden, instructor of management at Fort Hays State University, has been recognized as the 2019-20 Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship (RCOBE) Faculty of the Year.

Pruden is entering her third year of teaching in the Department of Management. Dr. Rick Edgeman, department chair, refers to Pruden’s award as “a richly deserved honor.” He says “Dr. Pruden is well-known by both her students and colleagues alike for an exceptional blend of rigor and responsiveness, compassion and care, patience and persistence, dedication, and her ability to inspire students in the classroom.

“At a university well known for its exceptional teaching, Dr. Pruden is one of the best-of-the-best,” Edgeman said. “Her students, along with her colleagues in the Department of Management, the Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship, and Fort Hays State University are fortunate to be alongside Dr. Pruden in their quest for knowledge.”

The RCOBE Faculty of the Year award process for 2019-20 was designed and implemented by students majoring in business through a survey tool. A survey was first administered to the RCOBE student population to gather nominations, followed by a second survey to narrow down finalists. Pruden received the highest number of final votes on the survey.

Students who participated in the survey had many positive examples to share on how Pruden has impacted their educational journeys. One student commented “Dr. Pruden showed up every day with a smile and a positive attitude. When transitioning to online classes in spring 2020, Dr. Pruden handled the situation exceptionally. She was always available for one-on-one Zoom meetings.”

Several students shared examples of how Pruden consistently brings a positive energy to her classes, has a knack for teaching difficult concepts in a way that students can relate to, and truly cares about student success. One such student commented that “Dr. Pruden inspired me in so many ways this past year. I learned a lot and felt like she really invests in her students.”

“Dr. Christianna Pruden is one of our best and most popular instructors,” said Dr. Muhammad Chishty, dean of the Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship. “She is the perfect recipient of the RCOBE Faculty-of-the-Year Award.”

HUTCHINSON — The new class president for the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center's 269th Basic Training Class is Officer James Murphy of the Ellis Police Department, according to a KLETC <a href="https://www.facebook.com/kletc/">social media post</a>.

Officer Murphy is a third-generation law enforcement officer. 

“I find it very rewarding,” Murphy said.  “I will be graduating from KLETC 40 years after my grandfather graduated from this very academy in 1980.”

Prior to joining the Ellis Police Department, Officer Murphy attended the University of Alaska-Fairbanks where he studied Homeland Security. He is also a graduate of the FBINAA's Youth Leadership Program Session 15 at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Ellis police officer is president of academy training class

Hays, Kansas HaysMed, part of The University of Kansas Health System, has received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain&nbsp; ̶MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2020. HaysMed is one of only 140 hospitals nationwide to receive the honor.

The award recognizes HaysMed’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that HaysMed has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.&nbsp;

To receive the Chest Pain&nbsp; ̶MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award, HaysMed has demonstrated sustained achievement in the Chest Pain&nbsp; ̶ MI Registry for two consecutive years (2018 and 2019) and performed at the highest level for specific performance measures. Full participation in the registry engages hospitals in a robust quality improvement process using data to drive improvements in adherence to guideline recommendations and overall quality of care provided to heart attack patients.

“As a Platinum Performance Award recipient, HaysMed has established itself as a leader in setting the national standard for improving quality of care in patients with acute myocardial infarction,” said Michael C. Kontos, MD, FACC, chair of the NCDR Chest Pain–MI Registry Steering Subcommittee, Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. “By meeting the award requirements set forth in the registry, HaysMed has demonstrated a commitment to providing reliable, comprehensive treatment for heart attack patients based on current clinical guideline recommendations.”

The Center for Disease Control estimates that almost 700,000 Americans suffer a heart attack each year. A heart attack occurs when a blood clot in a coronary artery partially or completely blocks blood flow to the heart muscle. Treatment guidelines include administering aspirin upon arrival and discharge, timely restoration of blood flow to the blocked artery, smoking cessation counseling and cardiac rehabilitation, among others.

NCK Tech instructor honored with 212 Award

SCOTT COUNTY —Two people were injured in an accident just before 6:30p.m. Wednesday in Scott County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2004 Chevy Tahoe driven by Cheyenne Rushel&nbsp;McGahan, 27, Scott City&nbsp; was northbound on South Juniper Road 1.7 miles west of U.S. 83.

The driver failed to stop at sign at West County Road 70 and collided with an eastbound 2013 GMC Sierra 2500 driven by Bryan Plotz, 28, Scott City.

The Tahoe rolled over unknown amount of times and landed on its passenger side. The GMC rolled an unknown number of times and landed on its top. Both vehicles came to rest in a field north of West County Road 70.

EMS transported&nbsp;McGahan and Plotz to the hospital in Scott City. The drivers were not wearing seat belts, according to the KHP.

ELLIS - A cook for the USD 388 Ellis Jr./Sr. High School is in self-quarantine after being in close contact with a person who has COVID-19, according to Corey Burton, superintendent.

Burton issued the following <a href="https://www.facebook.com/ellishighschool/">news release</a> this afternoon on social media.

We have been informed that one of our Ellis Jr/Sr High School cooks has been placed on self-quarantine as they have been deemed a close contact of a positive Coronavirus individual.

Per guidelines, this staff member has been directed to self-quarantine until permitted to return.

We are alerting you to this development because we believe that open communication and district health is important.

 We are working closely with the Ellis County Health Department (ECHD) to keep our students and staff as safe as possible. 

At this time, our students and other employees are not directly affected. If this situation changes, we will alert you ASAP and make the necessary adjustments. In the meantime, know that USD 388 will continue with our safety and health protocols. These protocols include masks, sanitizing hands, wiping down equipment and other sanitizing processes. USD 388 cook placed on self-quarantine; no students, staff affected

The Ellis County Health Department on Wednesday announced 48 new cases of COVID-19 had been identified since Monday.

There are now 158 active cases in the county, including four active hospitalizations, and 304 recovered cases.

The seven-day average of positive test results dropped from more than 22 percent to just less than 19 percent. Of the 4,316 tests in the county, 10.7 percent have returned positive for COVID-19.

Since reporting began, 463 cases of coronavirus have been identified in the county, including one death.

Three local employees partnered in August to purchase the Hays assets of wireline oilfield operation formerly owned by&nbsp;Pioneer Energy Services.

Combined the partners of the new Midwest Wireline LLC, Tim Martin, James Rome and Dan Schmidt, have more than 50 years of experience in the industry.

Pioneer was an international company, but Midwest Wireline is completely locally owned by the three partners. They focus on the Midwest with most of their business in Kansas.

"It is our desire to continue to provide the same quality service in logging and perforating and customer service that you have become accustomed to, with the only difference being that we are now a locally owned business," the partners said in a news release.

Martin said he hoped the local ties will help the Midwest Wireline garner more business.

The business services both open hole and cased hole oil well operations.

The company offers a variety of services, including logging, perforating, mechanical services and retrieving pipe from wells.&nbsp;

Wireline logging is obtaining of geological or oil-related information from inside the well.

Although Pioneer laid off about five employees at the beginning of the pandemic when oil prices dropped, Midwest Wireline retained the remaining five employees on the payroll.

Schmidt said the partners hope to rehire employees as the market improves.

Martin said he believed the oil markets will continue to rebound and more drilling will eventually resume.&nbsp;

The business's 24-hour business phone number and personal employee cell numbers will remain the same. Their physical address also remains the same, 1846 250th Ave., Building D, Hays.

Partners purchase Pioneer's Hays assets, form Midwest Wireline

Before they voted last Thursday in favor of <a href="https://hayspost.com/posts/71b2e036-1db2-45b6-86a9-c9d86520f000">extending the city's face covering mandate</a> through Oct. 5, both the mayor and vice-mayor of Hays said there must be stepped-up enforcement of the ordinance.

Hays city commissioners are concerned about a recent <a href="https://hayspost.com/posts/cd32468e-0573-4b1b-8ea0-385401e13657">jump in coronavirus cases in Ellis County</a>, which coincides with the return of students to <a href="https://hayspost.com/posts/1a22bfd4-b118-410e-94bd-f45dd0f90891">Fort Hays State University</a> and a <a href="https://hayspost.com/posts/cfe15c06-ba22-431c-aeab-9f9865d47abe">dramatic increase in&nbsp;large gatherings near the campus.</a>

"We've educated the public about voluntary compliance to the point where we're basically talking to ourselves now," Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler said during a Tuesday news conference. "We've been working with the Hays Chamber, the Downtown Hays Development Center and the Convention and Visitors Bureau to try and help businesses in being compliant with the ordinance."

The Hays Police Department has also been working with FHSU to educate students about the mask mandate and&nbsp; has provided guidance for safe health standards throughout the school year.

Fines for infractions, which have been in place since the&nbsp;ordinance&nbsp;was became effective on July 27, will now be enforced.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

"Whether you agree with it or not, it is the law in the city of Hays, so we need to continue to follow the ordinance. We're looking for compliance from everyone," Scheibler said. "That doesn't mean there will be face mask check lanes on the sidewalk."&nbsp;

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) fliers and signs about the face mask ordinance have been created and distributed by the police department to businesses, restaurants and bars in Hays.&nbsp;

"We'll continue to try to educate those who are trying," Scheibler said, "and focus on those that are just blatantly disregarding the ordinance, where we're gonna have to take some sort of action."

Individuals and businesses can be fined up to $100 plus court costs for non-compliance with the ordinance.

Businesses will be considered out of compliance, Scheibler said,&nbsp; if "there are no signs on the door talking about the mask mandate and encouraging their customers to wear a mask. None of the employees are wearing masks. If they've made no effort to separate the tables to allow for social distancing.

"Those are all indications to me they've just chosen to ignore the law of the city of Hays, and the safety of the community is not their concern," he said. "So we're gonna have to take some action with those folks."

The "overwhelming majority" of citizens and businesses are complying with the ordinance, Scheibler pointed out.&nbsp;

"Some of the businesses have been super," he said, "going above and beyond the mask mandate, and I appreciate those businesses."

The <a href="https://www.haysusa.com/733/Face-Mask-Ordinance">ordinance </a>calls for residents and visitors in Hays to wear a face-covering in public, indoors and outdoors, when they are unable to social distance by at least 6 feet.

There are 10 exemptions to the ordinance, primarily for medical conditions and for children younger than age 8.

Enforcement checks will mostly be complaint-driven, according to Scheibler.

"You can send a email to masks@haysusa.com. We get those emails every day. They're dispatched out to the officers to follow up on."&nbsp; &nbsp;

Complaints should not be made to the 911 emergency phone line or to the dispatch center.

Officers on patrol who see a person or business in obvious violation will address the issue at that time.

Scheibler said the police department has a list of about 30 businesses where they've been to provide information and signage, but are still getting complaints their about non-compliance with the ordinance.

"What we're looking for is voluntary compliance. Together we can get through this," he said.&nbsp;"Hopefully, by October, the [positive COVID-19] cases are down and we can get back to the new normal, whatever that might be."

Scheibler noted that persons violating any other city ordinance could also be cited for not wearing a face covering.

"If two guys are fighting in front of the bar and they're not wearing masks and they're not making any effort to social distance, they'll probably get a ticket for the mask mandate.

"So, if you're going to fight, social distance," he joked.&nbsp;

🎥 Police chief: 'Action will be taken against those disregarding face mask ordinance'

The Fort Hays State University Foundation recently appointed eight new members to its Board of Trustees: Jeremy Capo, Alan DeGood, Brian DeWitt, Tamra Kemper, Bobb Meckenstock, Jerry Moran, Maynard Oliverius and Bryan VonFeldt.&nbsp;

Jeremy Capo&nbsp;graduated from Fort Hays State in 2004 with a Master of Science in Physical Education and in 2002 with bachelor degrees in Leadership Studies and Physical Education. He has proven to be very successful working as director of athletics at various colleges, and he was honored with the 2018-2019 NACDA Under Armour Athletic Director of the Year Award. Currently, Capo serves as the assistant vice president at Mammoth Sports Construction and resides in Topeka with his wife, Darcie, and their three children.

Alan DeGood&nbsp;is retired from Trek/AEC, LLC in Wichita but continues to serve in a consulting role. He is a 1973 graduate of FHSU with a degree in geology. DeGood has received numerous awards and honors for his professional accomplishments in the oil/gas sector and is affiliated with several professional industry-specific organizations such as AAPG and KIOGA. DeGood and his wife, Dianne, split their time between Goddard and Washington state. They have two adult children.

Brian DeWitt&nbsp;is a 1989 graduate of FHSU. Putting his accounting degree to use, he is a CPA and partner at Adams, Brown, Beran &amp; Ball in Hays, where he resides with his wife, Michelle, and their three daughters. DeWitt specializes in accounting, tax and business advisory services for agribusiness, small business taxation, and the oil/gas sector. DeWitt previously served on the FHSU Alumni Association Board of Directors, currently serves on the Grow Hays Board of Directors, and is a member of AICPA and KSCPA.

Tamra Kemper&nbsp;received her degree in Elementary Education from Fort Hays State in 1975. While at FHSU, Kemper performed in operas and was a member of the Mortar Board Senior Honor Society. She has served on the Dane G. Hansen Museum Board and has directed her church choir for 45 years. Kemper resides in Logan, which is where she spent 27 years as a special education teacher before retiring. Her husband, Marcus, and one of their three adult daughters are also graduates of FHSU.

Bobb Meckenstock&nbsp;is a 1976 economics and political science graduate of the University of Kansas. He has an MBA from Arizona State University’s American Graduate School of International Management. In 1987, he received his CLU designation from the American College, Bryn Mawr, Penn. Meckenstock is a Life and Qualifying Member of the Million Dollar Round Table, a 37-year member of the Top of the Table, and is involved with many charitable and philanthropic organizations. He resides in Hays, where he is president/CEO at The Meckenstock Group, Inc. He and his late wife, Shay, are the proud parents of three adult daughters.

Jerry Moran&nbsp;attended Fort Hays State and later the University of Kansas, where he completed a degree in economics. Following an early career as a small town banker, he received his juris doctor degree from KU in 1982. Kansans first elected Moran to the U.S. Senate in 2010. Previously, he served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Kansas’ 1st&nbsp;Congressional District. He and his wife, Robba, continue to live in Kansas and have two adult daughters. Senator Moran is returning to the Foundation Board of Trustees after serving previously from 1987-2019. He is also on the executive committee of the Coronado Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and is a former trustee of the Eisenhower Foundation. In addition, he is an active Lions Club member, Rotary Club member, and Sons of The American Legion member.

Maynard Oliverius&nbsp;received his business administration degree in 1966 from Fort Hays State. Among several other awards, Oliverius is a 1999 recipient of the FHSU Alumni Achievement award, and is a member of the Foundation’s Wooster Society. He is returning to the Foundation Board of Trustees after serving previously from 1999-2019. He is a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and is retired as President/CEO of Stormont-Vail HealthCare. Oliverius and his wife, Sarah, split their time between Topeka and Colorado Springs, and have three adult children.

Bryan VonFeldt&nbsp;is a 2007 and 2011 alum of FHSU with degrees in finance (banking) and an MBA. He is also a graduate of the School of Banking from SMU. In addition to playing collegiate golf at Fort Hays State, VonFeldt also served as a VIP Ambassador as an undergrad and now coaches men’s golf locally at Thomas More Prep-Marian High School in Hays. He is currently an adjunct instructor for FHSU’s Robbins Banking Institute and an instructor for Kansas/Nebraska Schools of Banking. VonFeldt is the chief financial officer/market president of Astra Bank in Hays, where he resides with his wife, Brittney, and their two children.

The current Foundation board is comprised of 59 alumni and friends of the university, with each trustee serving a four-year term. Each trustee actively participates in a variety of activities contributing to the educational and financial success of the university and the FHSU Foundation.

Foundation trustees come from a variety of education and industry backgrounds representing all five colleges at Fort Hays State University. Current trustees reside in a variety of states including Kansas, Missouri, Texas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois and Indiana. Meckenstock is a Life and Qualifying Member of the Million Dollar Round Table, a 37-year member of the Top of the Table, and is involved with many charitable and philanthropic organizations. He resides in Hays, where he is president/CEO at The Meckenstock Group, Inc. He and his late wife, Shay, are the proud parents of three adult daughters.Jerry Moran&nbsp;attended Fort Hays State and later the University of Kansas, where he completed a degree in economics. Following an early career as a small town banker, he received his juris doctor degree from KU in 1982. Kansans first elected Moran to the U.S. Senate in 2010. Previously, he served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Kansas’ 1st&nbsp;Congressional District. He and his wife, Robba, continue to live in Kansas and have two adult daughters. Senator Moran is returning to the Foundation Board of Trustees after serving previously from 1987-2019. He is also on the executive committee of the Coronado Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and is a former trustee of the Eisenhower Foundation. In addition, he is an active Lions Club member, Rotary Club member, and Sons of The American Legion member.Maynard Oliverius&nbsp;received his business administration degree in 1966 from Fort Hays State. Among several other awards, Oliverius is a 1999 recipient of the FHSU Alumni Achievement award, and is a member of the Foundation’s Wooster Society. He is returning to the Foundation Board of Trustees after serving previously from 1999-2019. He is a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and is retired as President/CEO of Stormont-Vail HealthCare. Oliverius and his wife, Sarah, split their time between Topeka and Colorado Springs, and have three adult children. Bryan VonFeldt&nbsp;is a 2007 and 2011 alum of FHSU with degrees in finance (banking) and an MBA. He is also a graduate of the School of Banking from SMU. In addition to playing collegiate golf at Fort Hays State, VonFeldt also served as a VIP Ambassador as an undergrad and now coaches men’s golf locally at Thomas More Prep-Marian High School in Hays. He is currently an adjunct instructor for FHSU’s Robbins Banking Institute and an instructor for Kansas/Nebraska Schools of Banking. VonFeldt is the chief financial officer/market president of Astra Bank in Hays, where he resides with his wife, Brittney, and their two children.The current Foundation board is comprised of 59 alumni and friends of the university, with each trustee serving a four-year term. Each trustee actively participates in a variety of activities contributing to the educational and financial success of the university and the FHSU Foundation.Foundation trustees come from a variety of education and industry backgrounds representing all five colleges at Fort Hays State University. Current trustees reside in a variety of states including Kansas, Missouri, Texas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois and Indiana.
