WYANDOTTE COUNTY—Prosecutors have charged a suspect in connection with a murder in March.

On October 6, U.S. Marshals apprehended the 21-year-old Rene Najera of Kansas City, Kansas for homicide that occurred on March 26 in the 1600 block of Ridge Avenue, according to a statement released Tuesday from Kansas City, Kansas Police.

The Wyandotte County District Attorney’s Office has charged him with felony first-degree murder,&nbsp; aggravated battery and aggravated assault in the shooting death of 19-year-old Anderson Murcia-Cartagena

Najera is being held in the Wyandotte County Jail on a $150,000 bond.

WASHINGTON (AP) —President Trump won't rule out a U.S. strike on Venezuelan soil.

The president said of U.S. strikes against boats off of Venezuela, “We are certainly looking at land now.”

A series of recent U.S. strikes have sunk vessels the White House says were carrying drugs from Venezuela. Asked if such attacks may eventually target mainland Venezuela, Trump said, “I don’t want to tell you, exactly.”

But he suggested that land attacks were an option “because we’ve got the sea well under control.”

Wesley Owen Duvall, 71, of Bunker Hill, Kansas, died on Thursday, October 09, 2025, at the Wilson Care and Rehab Center in Wilson, Kansas.

Wesley was born on November 08, 1953, in Odessa, Texas, the son of Duane A. and Wanda L. (McLaughlin) Duvall. He grew up in Luray, Kansas, and graduated from Luray High School. He worked as a contract mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, The Bear House and for DSNWK. Even though he was never married he was very close to his extended family, especially his niece and nephews, and enjoyed getting out with his guardian Melodie. Before his health declined, Wesley liked to hunt and fish. Later in life he liked to sit in his chair rocking and listening to the radio and drinking his diet Mountain Dew

Surviving family includes his nephews Cary Duvall, Joshua Duvall (Mary Frances), niece Amy Duvall all of Concordia, Kansas, along with great nieces and nephews and his guardian Melodie Anschutz of Russell, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Phillip Duvall and nephew Christopher L. Duvall.

Cremation was selected by the family.&nbsp;

Wesley Owen Duval

Alan
Louis Gottschalk, 78, of Hays, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, October 11,
2025, at Hays Medical Center. He was born March 18, 1947, in Denver, Colorado,
to Albert Elmer and Cora Louise (Meier) Gottschalk.




Alan was a 1965 graduate of St. Joseph’s Military Academy. In high school, he
played baseball for the Hays American Legion, he played the saxophone for the
Cadet Concert Band, and he was also a member of the Sportsmen, the school pep
band. Shortly after graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army,
where he trained as a medic in San Antonio, TX, and was briefly stationed at
Ft. Hood, TX. He bravely served with the 196th Light Infantry Brigade in
Vietnam, where he was wounded in May 1968. His distinguished service was
recognized with both the Purple Heart and the Combat Medical Badge — an honor
awarded only to medics who perform their duties in combat under enemy fire.




Following his honorable discharge and retirement from the Army, Alan earned his
bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Fort Hays State University
and began a long and successful career with Philip Morris as a sales
representative for western Kansas, retiring in 2005.




A proud and devoted veteran, Alan was deeply committed to the Hays VFW Post
9076. He was the Post Commander from 1973 to 1974. His dedication to honoring
veterans was evident each Memorial Day as he helped place American flags on the
graves of veterans at St Joseph’s Cemetery. He was instrumental in launching
the popular Stars and Stripes Breakfasts in Hays, serving the community while
raising funds for various local causes. Alan was one of the original and
remaining members of the VFW Honor Guard funeral detail, where he played the
bugle and called orders at military funerals across western Kansas.

 


Alan was also an avid golfer—proudly achieving a hole-in-one—and enjoyed
cheering for K-State football, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Kansas City
Royals.&nbsp; He cherished his long-lasting friendships, going on many trips,
traveling to concerts, and always enjoying a cold beer. Friends and loved ones
alike know him for his wry sense of humor and hearty laugh. He was
quick-witted, but always loving.




A man of strong Catholic faith, he believed in sacrifice and commitment to his
family and country. During his time overseas while in the Army, he snuck a
personal effect, a rosary, that he wore around his neck during the entirety of
his active duty. 




Above all, Alan was a proud father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He is
survived by his son, Garrett Gottschalk and wife Emily Tamblyn, and their son
Louis, all of Chicago, Illinois; his daughter, Megan Standefer and husband
Ryan, and their children, twins Henry and Willa, and Audrey, all of Prairie
Village, Kansas; sisters Susie Malone and husband Mike of Topeka, Kansas, and
Karla Ackerman and husband Mark of Olathe, Kansas; his brother Ken Gottschalk
and wife Lorrie of Paola, Kansas; sister-in-law Debbie Gottschalk of Topeka,
Kansas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.




He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Wayne Galen
Gottschalk.




Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 18, 2025, at St.
Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hays. Burial with full military honors, provided by
the Hays VFW Honor Guard, will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.




Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and Saturday from 9:00 AM to
9:30 AM, all at Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory – Brock’s Chapel, 2509
Vine Street, Hays, KS 67601.




A combined parish vigil and rosary will be held at 7:00 PM Friday at Brock’s
Chapel.

Margaret Ann 'Marge' (Beyer) Feldt, 95, of Grinnell, KS, passed away peacefully on Monday, October
13, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She most recently resided in
Overland Park, KS, having moved there to be closer to her family.

Marge was born in
Hays, KS, on August 18, 1930, to Lillian (O’Leary Urban) and Raymond J.
Beyer. She was seventh of twelve children. She graduated from Girls Catholic
High in Hays and later married John A. Feldt in Hays, KS. Together they were
blessed with nine children. Survivors include her children, David (Peggy) Feldt,
Dan (Peggy) Feldt, Deanna (John) Scherer, Donna (Tom) Zerr, Danelle (Jack)
Persinger, Doralee (Mace) Townsend, and Dorothy (Jimmy) Helm, sixteen
grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, thirteen great- grandchildren, and
many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Marge’s life was
centered around her faith and her family. “She is clothed with
strength and dignity", Proverbs 31:25 is a fitting
description of Marge’s lifetime, even in her final hours.&nbsp;

She was a beautiful
and devoted Catholic wife and mother, known for her grace. She supported and
raised her children to be strong and to value hard work. Marge was a member of
St. Mary’s Altar Society and St. Paul’s Daughters of Isabella (D of I) of Angelus.
She enjoyed her bridge ladies, playing cards and board games, reading books,
and was a forever sports fan - especially of the Grinnell Warriors
(Thunderhawks), KC Chiefs, KC Royals and KU Basketball.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Marge was preceded in
death by her husband, John A. Feldt (January 10, 1999), her son, Darrel Feldt
(March 3, 1979), her daughter, Delilah (June 1, 1998), and son-in-law Charlie
Krueger (May 23, 1998).

She was also
predeceased by all of her siblings and their spouses, Clothilda (Al) Kisner,
Hubie (Kitty) Beyer, Raymond (Dorothy) Beyer, Frank (Ginny) Beyer, Virgil
(Marietta) Beyer, Wilfred James (Mary) Beyer, Esther (infant), Eugene
Beyer, Richard (Henrietta) Beyer, Fr. Gregory Beyer, and Joseph (Carol) Beyer;
and her in-laws, Jerome (Libby) Feldt, Anna Marie (Frank) Huelsman, Teresa
(Fred) Benton, Peter (Margaret) Feldt, Norbert (Louise) Feldt, Bette (Leroy)
Younger, Cletus (Lois) Feldt, and Anthony (Mary Ann) Feldt.&nbsp;

Her funeral service

Vernon 'Leroy' Hendrich, 77, of
Russell, Kansas, died on Tuesday, September 09, 2025, in Russell, Kansas.

Leroy was born on October 20, 1947,
in Ellsworth, Kansas, the son of Reuben E. and Ina G. (Cooper) Hendrich.&nbsp; He grew up in Russell and graduated from
Russell High School in the Class of 1965.&nbsp;
He then attended for 2 years at Pittsburg State University.&nbsp; Leroy was united in marriage to Linda A.
Boswell on November 19, 1966, in Pittsburg, Kansas.&nbsp; From this union Leroy and Linda were blessed
with two sons, Joey and Bradley.&nbsp; They
made their home in Russell. &nbsp;His
profession included working for Scheufler Supply, aka Big A Auto Parts.&nbsp; He then started working for Leroy’s Conoco,
purchased it in 1979 and began working with his son Joey. &nbsp;The name of the business later changed to Auto
Excellence Auto Repair, LLC. &nbsp;In 2005,
Leroy and Joey added AE Tools &amp; Computers. Leroy retired in 2014.&nbsp; He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bee keeping,
gardening, building fireworks and spending time with his family at the farm.

Surviving family are two sons, Joey
Hendrich (Laurie) of Olathe, Kansas and Bradley Hendrich of Hinton, Iowa; 6 grandchildren,
Bryan (Brandi), Brody, Brock, Megan, Zachary and Claire and 2 great grandchildren,
Zaidyn and Quintyn; brother Leslie Hendrich; sisters Anel Minneman and Faith
Rud.

He was preceded in death by his
parents, and wife Linda on September 09, 2015.

Vernon 'Leroy' Hendrich

Shirley Catherine Weigel, age 87, of Victoria, Kansas entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Hays Medical Center.  She was a cherished sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great aunt, and friend.  Her presence will be missed.

She was born March 29, 1938, on the family farm South of Victoria, Kansas to Joseph C. and Catherine (Paul) Weigel.

Shirley attended school in Victoria, and graduating from Victoria High School in 1956.  She started working at Brungardt’s I G A Store in Victoria, then was a bookkeeper at Ben Dreiling Motors for a few years.  She then was a bookkeeper for Dr. Applegate, Siler and Watts at Eye Specialists in Hays for over 25 years.

She was a Faithful member of The Basilica of Saint Fidelis, a passed Eucharistic, Homebound Minister, and Eucharistic adorer.  She was a member of  St. Fidelis Daughters of Isabella, St, Fidelis Christian Mothers, and Victoria V.F.W. Post #1751 Auxiliary.

Shirley enjoyed cooking, traveling, good food, game shows, Dances with the Stars, bowling, bingo, sports, her family and friends. She was an avid fan of the KC Chiefs, Royals, Jayhawks, and always coaching from her recliner. 

Shirley cherished her nephew, nieces, and was very proud of their accomplishments, and achievements. She never missed baking a special birthday cake for anyone.  Another of her favorite things was the annual Christmas shopping trip with her sisters and their birthday lunches. Shirley had a smile for everyone and would have tears of joy because “Life was Good”

She is survived by her siblings, Velma Giebler, Hays, KS; Leona Kuhn, Hays, KS; Tony Weigel and his wife, Jan, Overland Park. KS; Doris Weigel, Victoria, KS; her nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Michael Weigel; Donald Weigel (Beverly); Robert Weigel (Flora); Joseph Weigel{died in Japan}; her sisters, Mary Jane Miller (Gilbert); Louise Weigel; and her brothers-in-law, Francis Giebler; and Clinton Kuhn.&nbsp;

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, October 17, 2025, at The Basilica of Saint Fidelis, 900 Cathedral Ave, Victoria, Kansas with Celebrant, Father Curtis Carlson O.F.M. Cap.

Burial will be in Saint Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, Kansas.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Friday, at The Basilica of Saint Fidelis, A vigil service will be at 6:30 P.M. Thursday, followed by a Victoria V.F.W. Auxiliary Memorial Service, and a Victoria Christian Mothers /Daughters of Isabella Rosary all at The Basilica of Saint Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas.

Byron Kent Miller, 75, of
Thornton, Colorado, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2025 after a lengthy battle
with numerous health issues.&nbsp; He was born
on May 24, 1949, in Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp;
The son of Raymond and Ruth (Karst) Miller.

Byron graduated from Hoisington
High School in the Class of ’67 and later received his Bachelor of Science in
Education from Emporia State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas in May of
1971.&nbsp; While at Emporia State, Byron
served 2 years in the US Air Force Reserves under the Delayed Enlistment
Program, being honorably discharged from the Reserves in September of 1971 to
become fully inducted into the US Air Force.&nbsp;
While in the Air Force, he earned his Master of Arts Degree from the
University of Northern Colorado and was later honorably discharged from the Air
Force in June of 1977.

Byron was employed as a Math
Teacher/Department Chair at Adams County 12 school District in November of 1978
in Thornton, Colorado.&nbsp; He faithfully
served many years in that capacity until his retirement in 2016.

Byron is survived by his
siblings; Janice McCubbin and husband Lee, Randall Miller and Richard Miller
and wife Carla; along with the nephews, Scott McCubbin and Ryan Miller and
Niece Rylee Miller as well as extended family and friends.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation was selected by the
family.&nbsp; A graveside memorial service
will be held at 1 P.M. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at the Russell City
Cemetery in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; Pohlman-Varner-Peeler

SALINE COUNTY —On Monday, the Salina Police Department was made aware of a parking incident which occurred a week prior, on Monday October 6, with a marked Salina Police Department patrol car parking in a handicapped designated parking space at a south Salina business. This matter was brought to the Department’s attention by a private citizen and was not raised by anyone associated with that business, according to Salina Police&nbsp;Lt. Andrew Zeigler.

"The Salina Police Department takes complaints from citizens very seriously as we see it as an opportunity to examine our day-in-and-day-out operations and provides us the perspective and concerns of the community. This incident has given us the opportunity to look into the concerns of our citizens internally and operationally. The matter has been looked into to understand all the circumstances around it, including speaking with the employees of the private business."

"The on duty Salina Police Officer was conducting follow-up on an ongoing criminal investigation at the time of the incident and parked in the only available parking space at the business." according to&nbsp;Lt. Zeigler

A photograph was taken of the patrol car. The photograph was later forwarded on and was eventually passed on to the Police Department. The Salina Police Officer who was driving the patrol car at the time was contacted and is being addressed as an internal matter. The Salina Police Department is also taking steps internally to ensure all officers are following Kansas traffic codes as it pertains to police operations as well as Salina Police Department and City of Salina policies.

Congratulations to King and Queen, Tracyn Bollig and Sienna Schmidt, who were crowned at our football game on Friday, October 10, 2025.   Ellis High School had an amazing week celebrating homecoming! The overall spirit winners were the sophomores from the Class of 2028. The senior class won for the best float, which featured a Disney Cars theme. The faculty and staff came together as a strong team and easily defeated all the student classes in volleyball. It was a fantastic week to be a Railer!

Philip Daniel, film/dance composer and touring artist from Lincoln, Nebraska will be the next WPAA artist in concert He will do school workshops for students in St. Francis at 10:00 am and Colby at 12:50 pm on Thursday, October 16th. The evening of the 16th, he will perform a concert in the Cultural Arts Center in Colby for the general public.

The workshops and the concert will be free to all those in attendance, thanks to the support from the Thomas County Community Foundation, the Cheyenne County Community, and the Dan Hansen Foundation. Everyone is invited to come join this free evening concert.

SEDGWICK COUNTY – On October 14, 2025, Investigators with the Wichita Police Department arrested a 15-year-old suspect for the shooting of a 30-year-old man after he was found burglarizing the victim’s car. 

The suspect was released from the hospital and booked into the Sedgwick County Juvenile Detention Facility on charges of Attempted Second-Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery, Burglary to Auto, and Juvenile in Possession of a Firearm.

This case has now been formally charged. All further inquiries should be directed to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.

Officers responded to the&nbsp;400 block of South Vassar and found two male victims 30-year-old Kevin Norfleet, who teaches at Maize High School and a 15-year-old both suffering from gunshot wounds, according to Officer Kris Gupilan. EMS transported both to a local hospital where they remain in critical condition.

Investigators learned Norfleet, identified from an online fundraiser, went outside after seeing the 15-year-old rummaging through his vehicle. The 15-year-old then fired a weapon, striking Norfleet. He returned fire, hitting the 15-year-old.

15-year-old Kan. burglary suspect, wounded in gunfight, moved from hospital

The Hays Arts Council is excited to announce the launch of Block Party on the Bricks, a new community event set for Saturday, November 1, from 3–7 p.m. on 11th Street, just east of Main Street.

The event will showcase a wide range of artistic talent, including live music, interactive demonstrations, and a community mural. Confirmed performances include Cactus Collateral, Star Slinger, Flyover, the High Plains Barbershop Chorus, the FHSU Pep Band, and a featured duo from Reprise with Adrian Normandin and McKynlee Strecklein.

CAIRO (AP) — As&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/israel-hamas-war">the Gaza ceasefire</a>&nbsp;holds, Hamas security forces have returned to the streets, clashed with armed groups and killed alleged gangsters in what the militant group says is an attempt to restore law and order in areas where Israeli troops have withdrawn.

Nahed Sheheiber, head of Gaza’s private truckers union, said Hamas was acting against gangs that had terrorized people in areas controlled by Israel.

“Those gangs looted aid and killed people under the protection of the (Israeli) occupation,” he told The Associated Press, saying they operated in so-called red zones where Israel had ordered people to evacuate. The Israeli military did not respond to a request for comment.

Over the weekend, Hamas-led fighters clashed with an armed group in Gaza City affiliated with the powerful Doghmush family after the killing of Mohammed Aqel, a Hamas militant, on Friday.

Aqel’s family said in a statement that militiamen had kidnapped him, robbed him and killed him. Another family, the al-Muqaid, said the gang ambushed five of its members when they returned to their homes and robbed them, killing one and leaving another in intensive care.

Residents of the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity out of security concerns, said the gang, led by Hussam Doghmush, was known to loot aid convoys and rob abandoned homes in areas controlled by the Israeli military. They said Doghmush was among some two dozen people killed in the clashes with Hamas, including a local journalist and a son of a senior Hamas official based outside Gaza.

Hamas-linked Telegram channels said Hamas had targeted “collaborators and traitors” working with Israel. The Hamas-run Sahm security force, which says it targets looters and other criminals, shared footage that appeared to show its forces killing eight people execution-style in the streets as people cheered. It said the detainees were gangsters.

The Gaza-based Al Mezan Center for Human Rights and the Palestinian Independent Commission for Human Rights denounced the extrajudicial killings by Hamas.

The Doghmush family initially denounced the gang and distanced itself from it. Two days later, it issued another statement condemning Hamas’ response, saying there was no need for “this brutality.”

Saeed Abu Elaish, a medic from the northern Jabaliya refugee camp who fled to central Gaza last month, said he had seen police return to the streets and welcomed it as a first step toward restoring “some kind of normalcy and safety” after two years of ruinous war.

Netanyahu has hinted he will resume military operations if Hamas is not disarmed peacefully.

The Hamas-run Interior Ministry has announced a weeklong amnesty, saying gang members not implicated in bloodshed can turn themselves in and have their records expunged. Those who do not will face arrest and prosecution, it said.

“No one will be allowed to undermine public security or the rights of citizens,” the ministry said in a statement, calling it a “a final warning.”

Hossam al-Astal, the leader of an anti-Hamas militia in southern Gaza with apparent links to Israel, rejected the warning.

“To all the Hamas rats, your tunnels are destroyed, your rights don’t exist anymore. Repent before it is too late — there is no Hamas from today onward,” he wrote on Facebook.

Al-Astal who was imprisoned by Hamas before the war on allegations of drug smuggling, established an armed group late last year that operates in areas controlled by Israel. He appears to have joined forces with Yasser Abu Shabab, who leads a similar armed group in the Israeli-controlled southern city of Rafah that has a history of looting aid convoys.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/donald-trump">Donald Trump</a>&nbsp;on Tuesday posthumously awarded America's highest civilian honor to&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/charlie-kirk-conservative-activist-shot-546165a8151104e0938a5e085be1e8bd">Charlie Kirk</a>, the assassinated activist who inspired a generation of young conservatives and helped push the nation's politics further to the right.

Receiving the award on Kirk's behalf was his widow, Erika. Her voice cracking and often falling to a whisper as she wiped away tears, Erika Kirk talked about her late husband's life, political beliefs and legacy.

“Thank you, Mr. President, for honoring my husband, in such a profound and meaningful way. And thank you for making this event a priority," she said. “Your support of our family and the work that Charlie devoted his life to will be something I cherish forever.”

The ceremony coincided with what would have been Kirk’s 32nd birthday. It came about a month after the Turning Point USA founder was&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/charlie-kirk-shooting-utah-university-republicans-8357c3d102de09e3320fde761258131a">fatally shot</a>&nbsp;while speaking to a crowd at Utah Valley University.

In a sign of Kirk's close ties to the administration, he was the first recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom in Trump’s second term. Kirk also repeated Trump’s false claims that former Vice President Kamala Harris was responsible for policies that encouraged immigrants to come to the U.S. illegally and called&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/george-floyd">George Floyd</a>, a Black man whose killing by a Minneapolis police officer sparked a national debate over racial injustice, a “scumbag.”

As Tuesday's ceremony was underway, the Trump administration said it had&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-charlie-kirk-visas-revoked-455f43467c0c50e84d3857c1e9c81458">revoked the visas</a>&nbsp;of six foreigners who U.S. officials deemed had made derisive or mocking comments about Kirk’s assassination. The six who had their visas revoked were from Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Mexico, Paraguay and South Africa.

The move comes as the Trump administration and its supporters have zeroed in on people who made critical comments about Kirk, leading to firings and other discipline.

Trump wrote in a social media post hours before it started that he was moving the ceremony from the White House’s East Room to the Rose Garden to accommodate a crowd he said would be “so big and enthusiastic.”

Trump paved over the grass there and put in a patio area, and talked happily about the medal ceremony being one of the first major events in the new space. He noted how the weather had cleared up after it was expected to be raining, saying: “I was telling Erika, God was watching. And he didn’t want that for Charlie.”

Kirk’s widow said she asked their 3-year-old daughter what she might have given her father for his birthday, and she responded a stuffed animal and a cupcake while saying he hoped he'd get a birthday surprise. Erika Kirk said her husband was sometimes hard to buy presents for, but the medal was the perfect gift.

Erika Kirk said her husband might one day have run for president "but not out of ambition. He would only have done it if that was something that he believed that his country needed from his servant’s heart.”

She said God began a “mighty work” through her husband, and she intends to see it through. She finished her remarks by saying Charlie’s story reminds us that “to live free is the greatest gift but to die free is the greatest victory.”

WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-hegseth-venezuela-drug-cartels-unlawful-combatants-1848b02febe08acacb82979d7da47dfb">struck another small boat</a>&nbsp;accused of carrying drugs in the waters off Venezuela, killing six people, President Donald Trump said Tuesday.

Those who died in the strike were aboard the vessel, and no U.S. forces were harmed, the Republican president said in a social media post. It’s the fifth deadly strike in the Caribbean as Trump's administration has asserted it's treating alleged drug traffickers as&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-cartels-armed-conflict-cb57804807e55a00ace60ad5f4d4f24d">unlawful combatants</a>&nbsp;who must be met with military force.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the strike Tuesday morning, said Trump, who released a video of it, as he had in the past. Hegseth later shared the video in a post on X.

The black-and-white video showed a small boat that appeared stationary on the water. Seconds into the video, it is struck by a projectile from overhead and explodes. The boat is then seen floating aflame for several seconds.

Trump said the strike was conducted in international waters and “intelligence” confirmed the vessel was trafficking narcotics, was associated with “narcoterrorist networks” and was on a known drug trafficking route.

The Pentagon did not immediately respond to an email from The Associated Press seeking more information on the latest boat strike, but one defense official confirmed that the details in the social media post were accurate.

Frustration with the Trump administration has been growing on Capitol Hill among members of both major political parties. Some Republicans are seeking more information from the White House on the legal justification and details of the strikes. Democrats contend the strikes violate U.S. and international law.

The Senate last week voted on a war powers resolution that would have barred the Trump administration from conducting the strikes unless Congress specifically authorized them, but it failed to pass.

In a memo to Congress that was obtained by The Associated Press, the Trump administration said it had “determined that the United States is in a non-international armed conflict with these designated terrorist organizations” and that Trump directed the Pentagon to “conduct operations against them pursuant to the law of armed conflict.”

The Trump administration has yet to provide underlying evidence to lawmakers proving that&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/venezuela-maduro-strike-caribbean-drug-trafficking-trump-1061debe2f983ef7bc9666d3f002b3a0">the boats</a>&nbsp;targeted by the U.S. military in a series of fatal strikes were in fact carrying narcotics, according to two U.S. officials familiar with the matter who were not authorized to comment publicly and spoke on the condition of anonymity.

California Sen. Adam Schiff, a Democrat who last week pushed the vote on the Venezuela resolution, said in a post on X that the president’s authority to respond to an armed attack or the threat of one was limited and did not apply.

“These continued strikes — 27 killed to date — risk getting the U.S. into a full fledged war,” Schiff said.

He said he would push for another vote if the strikes continue.

The strikes followed&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-venezuela-destroyers-maduro-drug-cartels-9649e8282c061d9dad41a5dfb54431d4">a buildup of U.S. maritime forces</a>&nbsp;in the Caribbean unlike any seen in recent times.

Last week, Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino told military leaders that the U.S. government knows the drug-trafficking accusations used to support the recent actions in the Caribbean are false, with its true intent being to “force a regime change” in the South American country.

He added that the Venezuelan government does not see the deployment of the U.S. warships as a mere “propaganda-like action” and warned of a possible escalation.

“I want to warn the population: We have to prepare ourselves because the irrationality with which the U.S. empire operates is not normal,” Padrino said during the televised gathering. “It’s anti-political, anti-human, warmongering, rude, and vulgar.”

🎥6 killed after US strikes another drug boat off Venezuela 

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement have located the woman from the doorbell video.

Just after 3 p.m. Tuesday Wichita Police Investigators received a phone call, from a woman claiming to be the individual investigators were attempting to identify. Investigators immediately responded to her location, made contact, and transported her to City Hall so detectives could conduct a victim interview.

Investigators are conducting interviews and have identified the woman as a 35-year-old who lives in the area where the video was captured. At this stage of the investigation, police believe this incident is a case of domestic violence where the woman was victimized by her boyfriend. The woman does not have any significant injuries.

Police thanked the public for sharing the video and still images that generated additional attention about this incident, we do believe it led the woman to call and saying she was the person police were looking for.

Police stressed they do not have any reason to believe there is ongoing danger to the general public.

Police are continuing their investigation into the video and the case will be presented to the appropriate attorney’s office for formal charging consideration.

The woman does not have any significant injuries.Police thanked the public for sharing the video and still images that generated additional attention about this incident, we do believe it led the woman to call and saying she was the person police were looking for.Police stressed they do not have any reason to believe there is ongoing danger to the general public.Police are continuing their investigation into the video and the case will be presented to the appropriate attorney’s office for formal charging consideration.-------------SEDGWICK COUNTY —A $2,000 reward from Crimestoppers is now being offered for helping police identify a man and woman seen in a video of an alleged abduction that occurred in Wichita.The Wichita Police Department continues asking for the community’s help in identifying and locating the woman in the video. They also received 15 additional tips overnight Monday, according to a statement from Wichita Police during a Tuesday morning news conference.At this time, police have not been able to identify the woman and man seen in the video. Exploring all options, police reached out to regional and federal law enforcement partners for additional assistance.The Wichita Police team has processed the audio, reducing background noise, hoping that someone will recognize her voice.
