The Ellis County Historical Society and the Courtney-Spalding Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution invite the public to a special presentation, “A Look Back at Walker Army Airfield Base,” featuring historian and U.S. Army veteran Steven Arthur. The event will take place on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Ellis County Historical Society, 100 W. 7th, Hays.

Arthur, a Fort Hays State University history graduate, retired library director, and current NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador, will share his research into the fascinating past of the Walker Army Airfield.

His curiosity about the site began years ago—like many who have driven past the remains of the base and wondered about its story. What started as a model-building project for Forsyth Library became a three-year journey to uncover the airfield’s rich and largely forgotten history.

The event is free and open to the public. The museum’s south entrance is handicap accessible and includes an elevator.

This program is sponsored by the Ellis County Historical Society and the Courtney-Spalding Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, as part of the “America 250!” commemoration.
