HAYS - Hays High and Liberal met up for their second Western Athletic Conference matchup of the season on Friday night at Hays High School. The meeting took place more than two months after the two opened league play in December.

GIRLS: #4-5A Hays 65, #9-6A Liberal 32 The girls game featured two state ranked teams just like in the December matchup. Hays used an 11-0 first quarter run to take the lead for good in a 65-32 victory.

It was a fight early. The game was tied at two and four then the Redskins took a 7-4 advantage and led at 9-7 midway through the first quarter.

Hays answered with a bucket to tie the game and launch an 11-0 run that gave the Indians an advantage they never gave back. Through the second four minutes of the first quarter the Indians outscored Liberal 15-4 for a 22-13 lead.

Hays continued to push the lead in the second quarter. A 12-0 run following a Redskin basket put the Indians ahead 34-15. Hays led by 20 twice in the second quarter, including a 41-21 lead at halftime.

Liberal scored the first point of the third quarter on a free throws. Hays scored the next ten points to lead 51-22. The Indians led by as many as 32 points in the third quarter and by 29 going to fourth 57-28.

A Hays basket thirty seconds in the fourth quarter enacted a continues fourth quarter that ended with a 65-32 Indian victory.

The 65 points scored by Hays(16-0, 5-0) is right on their average for the season. The Indians now have a two game lead and the tiebreaker over Liberal(12-6, 4-2) in the conference standings. The Indians have won 16 consecutive WAC games.

Molly Martin moved past Melissa Beyer for third all-time scoring at Hays High with 965 points.

BOYS: Hays 67, Liberal 30 A workman like effort in the first half for Hays gave way to a second half explosion as the Indians beat Liberal 67-30.

Hays trailed twice early at 3-0 and 8-7. A traditional three point play gave the Indians a lead at 10-8 when Liberal tied the game up at ten. The next three minutes belonged to the Indians as they scored the next eight points for an 18-10 lead. Liberal scored the final points of the first for an 18-12.

The Indians' defense clamped down in the second quarter. Hays used a 11-4 run over the final 5:27 of the half to extend their lead out to 32-18 at half.

Hays opened the second half on a 19-1 run to put any doubt in the outcome away with a lead of 51-19. Liberal's first field goal of the third quarter came with 2:30 left in the frame. Hays led by as many as 36 in third quarter and 59-26 heading to the fourth.

A continuous clock fourth quarter kept the scoring to a minimum. The Indians still outscored Liberal 8-4 for the 67-30 victory.&nbsp;

Hays(9-7, 4-1) has won 16 straight games against the Redskins. Liberal(3-15, 0-6) has lost 31 consecutive WAC games.

Hays hosts McPherson on Monday in make-up games from earlier in the week.

🏀 Hays sweep Liberal in WAC games

SUPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — All-Star left-hander Cole Ragans and the Kansas City Royals agreed Friday to a $13.25 million, three-year contract.

Ragans gets a $250,000 signing bonus and salaries of $1 million this year, $4.5 million in 2026 and $7.5 million in 2027. His 2027 salary would escalate to $8 million if he wins a Cy Young Award in either 2025 or 2026.

Ragans, 27, remains eligible for salary arbitration after the 2027 season and can become a free agent after the 2028 World Series.

“He earned this contract through his hard work, perseverance and professionalism,” Royals general manager J.J. Picollo said in a statement. “He’s been an outstanding performer for us at a young age and his success is motivating to us moving forward.”

Ragans was 11-9 with a 3.14 ERA in 32 starts last year with 223 strikeouts and 67 walks in 186 1/3 innings. He led AL qualified pitchers with an average of 10.77 strikeouts per nine innings and finished fourth in Cy Young voting.

GOLDEN, Colo. - The Fort Hays State baseball team picked up a doubleheader split on the road against Colorado School of Mines on Friday, falling 6-3 in the opener before rallying with a 14-12 win in the nightcap. The Tigers are now 5-4 on the year, while the Orediggers move to 3-7 overall.

The Tigers accumulated 23 hits on the day, including a season-high 16 base knocks in the second game.

FHSU will open a 36-game conference series next weekend (Feb. 21-23) when the Tigers travel to Fort Smith, Ark. to take on conference newcomer Arkansas-Fort Smith.

GAME 1: Colorado School of Mines 6, Fort Hays State 3 The Tigers rallied from an early deficit to take a 3-1 lead in the opener before the Orediggers scored the final five runs in the contest to secure the win.

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/ty-riley/8431">Ty Riley</a>&nbsp;got the start for the Tigers and allowed just one run on three hits while striking out seven batters over 5.0 innings of work. The senior allowed one baserunner in the top of the first before giving up his first run of the season on three hits in the home half of the second. He settled in after that, recording 10-straight outs to complete his outing.

Fort Hays State struggled to get going against Mines starter Alex Honeyman, with the Tigers going hitless through the first four innings.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/tyson-jimenez/8424">Tyson Jimenez</a>&nbsp;led off the top of the fifth win an infield single and later came around to score on an RBI double from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/tony-moore/8456">Tony Moore</a>, leveling the score at one.

The Tigers then took the lead in the top of the sixth when&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/elliott-herrmann/8422">Elliott Herrmann</a>&nbsp;reached on a throwing error.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/trey-degarmo/8419">Trey DeGarmo</a>&nbsp;followed with a single before&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/derek-woolwine/8557">Derek Woolwine</a>&nbsp;advanced the runners 90 feet on a sacrifice bunt.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/luis-ayala/8413">Luis Ayala</a>&nbsp;then came through with an RBI base knock to left, plating Herrmann and giving FHSU a 2-1 lead.

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/kaleb-carpenter/8453">Kaleb Carpenter</a>&nbsp;was the first out of the pen for the Tigers, working around a leadoff walk to pitch a scoreless sixth inning. Fort Hays State later tacked on another run in the seventh when&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/isaiah-ural/8435">Isaiah Ural</a>&nbsp;opened a two-out rally with a single. Herrmann followed with another single, allowing Ural to advance to third before he scored on a wild pitch.

The Orediggers bounced back with three runs on three hits and one walk in the home half of the seventh, giving Mines a 4-3 lead.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/brandon-chavez/8417">Brandon Chavez</a>&nbsp;came on with two outs to record a strikeout and get out of the inning before Mines put up two more runs against&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/dylan-rinker/8432">Dylan Rinker</a>&nbsp;in the eighth.

The Tigers had their leadoff man on in the eighth with a Woolwine single before the next six batters were retired to end the game. Mines outhit the Tigers by two, 9-7, while FHSU pitchers combined for 10 strikeouts compared to seven by Oredigger hurlers.

GAME 2: Fort Hays State 14, Colorado School of Mines 12 Fort Hays State took an early lead in the second contest when DeGarmo led off with a home run to center field. Three doubles helped the Orediggers take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the frame before Moore put the Tigers back on top in the third with a two-run home run to right center.

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/cade-flaherty/8420">Cade Flaherty</a>&nbsp;bounced back by retiring the side in order in the third and then posted another scoreless inning in the fourth, giving the offense an opportunity to add to its lead.

The Tigers did just that with two more runs in the fourth and a five-spot in the top of the fifth. Two hits and three errors allowed FHSU to score twice in the fourth, including an RBI single from Ayala and a sacrifice fly from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/cooper-howell/8459">Cooper Howell</a>.

Fort Hays State pushed the lead to 10-2 with five runs on five hits and one error in the fifth. Back-to-back doubles from Herrmann and Woolwine opened the frame with a run before DeGarmo plated another run with a base hit. Howell and Moore both added RBI base knocks later in the frame while Ayala came around to score on a wild pitch.

Mines rallied with five runs on three hits and two free bases thanks to a fluke play where center fielder Ural appeared to make a leaping catch for the final out. Ural then landed awkwardly on his head, with his glove coming off during the process. The umpires ruled that no catch was made, allowing four runs to come in to score on an inside-the-park grand slam.

The Orediggers closed within 10-8 with another run in the sixth before Howell hit his first home run as a Tiger in the top of the seventh. Fort Hays State scored three more in the top of the eighth, including two more RBI for Howell on a single and a bases loaded hit-by-pitch RBI for Ural, padding the lead to 14-8.Mines put together a two-out rally in the eighth, pushing across four runs on four hits to pull within two, 14-12. Chavez got out of the jam with a groundout before retiring the side in order in the ninth to complete the win.

Chavez picked up the win after allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits over 4.1 innings of work. Flaherty worked the first 4.2 innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits while striking out three batters.

Howell went 3-for-4 with five RBI in the win, with five other Tigers also collecting multiple hits in the win. DeGarmo scored a team-high four times.&nbsp;&nbsp;

FHSU fell to Oklahoma Baptist 2-0 in its first contest of the day, but bounced back for a 6-2 win over Southern Arkansas. FHSU is now 3-3 overall for the season.

Oklahoma Baptist 2, Fort Hays State 0 The Tigers and Bison were locked in a pitching duel throughout the first contest of the day.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/savanah-egger/8183">Savanah Egger</a>&nbsp;was in the circle for FHSU, while Jaycee Shaffer threw for OBU. Shaffer came out on the winning end after a 2-run home run that snuck just inside the left field foul pole produced the only two runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth.

Both Shaffer and Egger threw complete games. Shaffer recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts and allowed just three hits to the Tigers, while walking just one. She moved to 3-0 on the season. Egger finished with five hits, two walks allowed, and six strikeouts in her 6.0 innings of work.

HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs played host to the Plainville Cardinals
in a key Mid-Continent League showdown, and the Lady Monarchs and the
Plainville boys came away with victories.

TMP’s Brooke Koenigsman scored 10 of her game-high 23 points
in the first quarter on a night where she surpassed 1,000 career points, and
the Monarchs cruised to a 77-35 victory.

The Monarchs (11-7 5-2 MCL), who had struggled with slow starts in recent
games, wasted no time finding a rhythm.

Koenigsman scored the game’s first bucket to go up 2-0. Those
points put her past 1,000 for her career at TMP. After being briefly honored
during a timeout, she scored eight more points in the first quarter. That,
combined with five points each from Hannah Rose and Claire Schippers and a pair
of Shalee Gottschalk three-pointers, helped the Monarchs rush out to a 28-3 lead
after the first quarter.

It was more of the same in the second quarter as Koenigsman
added seven more points on her way to a game-high 23, and TMP led at halftime
47-13.

The Monarchs outscored Plainville by seven in the third
quarter and, with the clock running in the fourth period, claimed the 77-35 victory.

Koenigsman led three in double-figures for the Monarchs.
Shalee Gottschalk scored a career-high 11 points, and Claire Schippers finished
with 13 points.

The TMP boys hadn’t played an overtime game in more than
two years, but after Thursday night, they had played two in less than a week.


They came up short in a 76-70 double-overtime loss to Plainville.

Thursday night’s contest was a back-and-forth affair from
the opening tipoff.

After TMP led 7-4 early, Plainville answered with a 9-0 run
to lead by six at 13-7.

The Monarchs answered right back thanks to a 12-0 run to
lead 19-13.

TMP matched that six-point lead twice in the quarter, only
to see Plainville cut the TMP lead to 25-22 at halftime.

The Cardinals brought all the momentum from their locker
room for the second half, outscoring TMP 20-9 in the third quarter and led
42-38 through three quarters.

TMP’s Ty Schmeidler scored 23 of his game-high 28 points in
the second half and 17 in the two overtime periods. 

His three-pointer in the final seconds of the fourth quarter
tied the game at 52 and sent the game to overtime.

In the first extra frame, the Monarchs led by as many as
four points but could not secure the victory at the free-throw line.

In the second overtime Plainville made 11-of-15 free throws
while TMP made just four of eight. The Cardinals outscored TMP 15-9 in the
final frame.

Plaine went on to secure the 76-70 2OT victory.

Schmeidler led all scorers with 28 points. Plainville’s
Jayden Morris led four scorers in double-figures with 14 points

EMPORIA, Kan. – Fort Hays State fell to Emporia State at White Auditorium on Thursday night 58-44. The Tigers moved to 15-8 overall on the season and 8-6 in the MIAA, while the Hornets moved to 9-15 overall and 6-9 in the MIAA earning a split in the regular season series between the teams.

Struggles in recent road games continued for the Tigers, scoring just 22 points in each half. FHSU played solid defense throughout the night, entering the game leading the nation in scoring defense at 58.6 points per game. The Tigers held the Hornets right at that average, but could not muster enough offense to come out on the winning side.

The Tigers held a slim lead early in the game before the Hornets took the lead for good at the 13:08 mark and led the rest of the way. The Hornets eventually worked their lead into double figures by the 5:44 mark of the first half and led by 10 at halftime, 32-22.

The Tigers made a little push at the Hornets early in the second half, cutting the lead down to seven points, but the Hornets countered with an 11-0 run to get the lead out to 18 and kept their lead in double figures the remainder of the night. The closest the Tigers got the rest of the way was 12 points.

Kyle Grill&nbsp; led the Tigers in scoring with 13 points, followed by Kaleb Hammeke&nbsp;with 11. Shaun Riley pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Hammeke and Riley each had a team-best three assists. The Tigers struggled to just 27.8 percent shooting from the field, while the Hornets finished at 44.2 percent.

Arhman Lewis was the only Hornet to score in double figures with 14 points. Karyiek Dixon was near a double-double with 10 rebounds and eight points.

Fort Hays State looks to snap a four-game slide in road contests on Saturday when it plays at Newman University. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at Fugate Gymnasium in Wichita.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Olivia Hollenbeck&nbsp;led all scorers with 20 points in the win, helping the graduate student move into fourth on the all-time scoring list at FHSU with&nbsp;1,797 points in her career.

Emporia State scored first and led for all of 11 seconds before&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-basketball/roster/bailey-wilborn/8337">Bailey Wilborn</a>&nbsp;hit her first of three 3-pointers to put the Tigers on top for good. Hollenbeck added a pair of layups over the next two minutes, helping FHSU to a 9-0 run. The Tigers later led by as many as 10 before the Lady Hornets scored the final seven points of the quarter to close within three at the end of the period, 17-14.

The home team kept things close over the first five minutes of the second quarter before FHSU closed the frame on another 9-0 run, building a 32-20 lead at the break. Katie DeGarmo&nbsp;totaled nine points in the period, outscoring Emporia State by three in the frame. The Tiger defense held ESU to 2-of-14 shooting in the second quarter while forcing five turnovers.

Emporia State pulled within five after opening the third quarter on a 7-0 run before Hollenbeck scored seven in a row on her own to push the lead back to a dozen. ESU managed to pull back within seven later in the quarter before the visitors again closed the frame on a 9-0 run, building its lead to 16 points, 54-38.

The Tigers then scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to extend the run to 14-straight points and build a 22-point lead. Fort Hays State cruised the rest of the way, trading buckets with the Lady Hornets and leading by no less than 18.In addition to her 20 points, Hollenbeck adding eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks. Fort Hays State begins a quick two-game road swing in Kansas this week with Emporia State on Thursday night. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at White Auditorium. The Tigers enter at 15-7 overall, 8-5 in the MIAA, while the Hornets are 8-15 overall, 5-9 in the MIAA.

Fort Hays State is coming off a pair of wins at home this past week over Northeastern State and Arkansas-Fort Smith. The Tigers held their opponents to an average of 50.5 points last week, lowering their nation's leading scoring defense to 58.6 points per game. The Tigers are the only team in NCAA Division II holding teams to an average of less than 60.Emporia State is coming off a road win at Missouri Southern last Saturday. The Hornets have won four of their last six games and the two losses in that stretch were by six or less points.

Fort Hays State won the first meeting this season with Emporia State by a score of 69-44 in Hays back on January 9. It was one of seven games this season FHSU held an opponent to 50 or less points. Kaleb Hammeke broke the career scoring record at FHSU in that game with 12 points, passing Alonzo Goldston (1,766 pts). Hammeke is now at 1,883 points. Dan Makuna&nbsp;led the Tigers in scoring that evening with 16 points, while Kyle Grill&nbsp;also reached double figures with 10 points. Malik Edwards was the top scorer for ESU with 10 points.

Fort Hays State has won the last four meetings with Emporia State, part of a stretch where FHSU has won 10 of the last 12. Emporia State's last win in the series was in Hays in 2020-21 by a score of 68-66. The last win for ESU on its home floor against FHSU was in 2019-20 by a score of 69-66. The Tigers have won nine of the last 10 meetings between the schools in Emporia, which goes back to the 2011-12 season.

Aside from being the nation's top scoring defense, FHSU ranks third nationally in fewest turnovers per game (9.0) and seventh nationally in field goal percentage defense (.393). The Tigers lead the MIAA in both of those categories, as well as 3-point field goal percentage defense (.307).

Kaleb Hammeke&nbsp;(14.7), Kyle Grill&nbsp;(12.1), and Shaun Riley&nbsp;(10.0) lead the Tigers in scoring. Riley is the top rebounder at 6.7 per game, while Hammeke is the top assister at 4.1 per game.

The Tigers enter at 15-7 overall, 8-5 in the MIAA, while the Hornets are 8-15 overall, 5-9 in the MIAA.Fort Hays State is coming off a pair of wins at home this past week over Northeastern State and Arkansas-Fort Smith. The Tigers held their opponents to an average of 50.5 points last week, lowering their nation's leading scoring defense to 58.6 points per game. The Tigers are the only team in NCAA Division II holding teams to an average of less than 60.Emporia State is coming off a road win at Missouri Southern last Saturday. The Hornets have won four of their last six games and the two losses in that stretch were by six or less points.Fort Hays State won the first meeting this season with Emporia State by a score of 69-44 in Hays back on January 9. It was one of seven games this season FHSU held an opponent to 50 or less points. Kaleb Hammeke broke the career scoring record at FHSU in that game with 12 points, passing Alonzo Goldston (1,766 pts). Hammeke is now at 1,883 points. Dan Makuna&nbsp;led the Tigers in scoring that evening with 16 points, while Kyle Grill&nbsp;also reached double figures with 10 points. Malik Edwards was the top scorer for ESU with 10 points.Fort Hays State has won the last four meetings with Emporia State, part of a stretch where FHSU has won 10 of the last 12. Emporia State's last win in the series was in Hays in 2020-21 by a score of 68-66. The last win for ESU on its home floor against FHSU was in 2019-20 by a score of 69-66. The Tigers have won nine of the last 10 meetings between the schools in Emporia, which goes back to the 2011-12 season.Aside from being the nation's top scoring defense, FHSU ranks third nationally in fewest turnovers per game (9.0) and seventh nationally in field goal percentage defense (.393). The seventh-ranked Fort Hays State women's basketball team hits the road for a pair of in-state matchups this weekend beginning Thursday (Feb. 13) when the Tigers take on Emporia State. Tipoff from White Auditorium in Emporia, Kan. is set for 5:30 p.m.

The contest between the Tigers and Lady Hornets is being played one day later than originally planned due to the winter weather in the area on Wednesday.

Fort Hays State moved to 20-2 on the year with its win over Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday, giving the Tigers at least 20 wins for the 14th season in a row. That streak is the longest active streak of 20-win seasons in Division II and is tied for fifth best across all NCAA divisions. The next-best active stretch of 20-win seasons in the MIAA is three (MWSU, MSSU, PSU), while the next-best streak in DII is Drury with 11.

Only four DI programs have longer active stretches of 20-win seasons, including UConn (32), Baylor (25), Stanford (23) and Florida Gulf Coast (21). Fort Hays State's run of 14-straight 20-win seasons is tied with Louisville, South Carolina and South Dakota State for fifth best in all NCAA women's basketball.

The Tigers currently sit in second place in the&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/TheMIAA/status/1888996563986375127">MIAA's KPI Index</a>, which will be used for seeding for the 2025 MIAA Championship. The Tigers have a rating of .165, slightly behind Missouri Western at .177 and just in front of Pittsburg State at .160. This rating system assigns point values to wins and losses based on opponent, location, score margin, etc.

18 of FHSU's 20 wins have been by double figures, including 11 victories by 20 or more points, while both of the Tigers' losses have been by just one point. That has helped FHSU to a scoring margin of plus-18.6, ninth-best in Division II. The Tigers also rank in the top 10 in DII in assist/turnover ratio (1.37, second), assists per game (19.0, third), field goal percentage (46.4, sixth) and winning percentage (.909, tenth).

Brooke Loewe&nbsp;has distributed 153 assists this season, already third-most in a single season in program history. At her current pace of 7.3 assists per game, the junior could break the school record of 166 assists (Kristi Leeper-Meis, 1990-91) this weekend. That total ranks second in the country and tops in the MIAA.

Olivia Hollenbeck leads the Tigers and ranks third in the conference with an average of 17.0 points per game. The graduate student picked up her second MIAA Athlete of the Week honor last week after averaging 24.5 points on 76.0 percent shooting in home wins over Northeastern State and Arkansas-Fort Smith. Currently with 1,777 career points, the Lincoln, Neb. native needs 14 points to move into fourth on the all-time scoring list at FHSU. Hollenbeck's shooting percentage of 63.8 percent is fifth best in the country.

Katie DeGarmo&nbsp;has scored at least 20 points in two of the last three games after doing so just twice in the first 19 games of the season. The reigning MIAA Player of the Year ranks fifth in the conference in scoring, averaging 16.2 points per game, and fourth in rebounds, collecting 7.8 boards per game.

Fort Hays State leads the MIAA with 10.0 steals per game thanks to three individuals that rank in the top six in the league in that category. Following another state-qualifying effort at its last meet, the Hays High boys’ swim team has its sights set on one of its biggest goals of the season.

The Indians, who finished second in team scoring at the Salina South meet last week and qualified yet another relay team for state, are set to compete in the Western Athletic Conference Championships Thursday in Garden City.

Even with the WAC event being the last meet to qualify for state, the swimmers told Coach Tyler to enter them in events at WAC where he thinks they can score the most points.

“We have one or two guys on the verge of qualifying individually,” Stein said. “But they all agreed to put the team first. They really want to win the WAC team title.”

Stein, a former all-state high school swimmer from Great Bend, is familiar with WAC swim programs. So he pondered for a while which events to strategically place his small squad of 11 swimmers.

Most WAC schools have much larger squads than Hays High, and “the guys know we’re underdogs coming into it. It’s going to take everyone swimming their best race for us to win it.”

Stein is confident that goal is attainable because the Indians have been turning in record-breaking performances all season long.

They have already qualified all three of their relay teams for state, senior Marshall Sook has qualified in two individual events, and the Indians have hit state-consideration times in other events as well.

“Just them having the faith in themselves that they can win WAC is big,” Stein said.

Besides Dickinson, Kansas (16-7, 7-5 Big 12) had three other players in double figures. Zeke Mayo added 13 points and Dajuan Harris and KJ Adams each had 10 each.

Kansas has alternated between wins and losses in the last seven games. Despite the double-digit margin, this victory was anything but easy.

Colorado (9-14, 0-12) used an early second-half run to trim a 14-point halftime deficit to just 6. Kansas didn't lead by more than 11 points until Adams hit a short jumper just before the shot clock expired to make it 69-56 with 1:31 left.

Sebastian Rancik led Colorado with a season-high 19 points. Bangot Dak added 11 points for the Buffaloes, and Elijah Malone had 10.

Colorado: Even after Kansas pulled away late in the first half to take a 40-26 lead into the break, the Buffaloes opened the second half with a 10-2 run to trim the deficit to six points.

Kansas: The Jayhawks needed a big game from Dickinson and they got it. With backup center Flory Bidunga scoring just fuur points, Dickinson's 19 points were critical.

Kansas held Colorado without a field goal for almost seven minutes in the first half to help the Jayhawks open their largest lead of the game. The Buffaloes missed 10 straight shots during the stretch.

Colorado shot just 17.4% (4-of-23) from 3-point range. The Buffaloes were 1-of-11 in the first half.

RUSSELL -&nbsp;The TMP-Marian Monarchs went on the road Tuesday for a Mid-Continent League matchup with their long-time rivals the Russell Broncos and it was the Russell girls earning a 49-45 &nbsp;victory while the TMP boys outlasted Russell in overtime, 67-64.

GIRLS: Russell 49, TMP 45 Similar to the first meeting between the Monarchs (10-7, 4-2 MCL) and the Broncos, earlier this year in the fifth-place game of the MCL tournament, Russell (9-9, 5-3 MCL) ran out to a double-digital lead but this time there were able to hold off the Monarchs and picked up their first win against TMP since the 2019 season, 49-45.

Russell jumped out to an early 15-3 run with only Shalee Gottschalk’s three point field on the board for TMP.

The third quarter featured 10 lead changes and four ties before the Monarchs took a 42-41 lead into the final period of the regulation.In the fourth quarter Russell led by as many as four and TMP by as many as three but with TMP up three at 55-52, Jake Mooney hit a three pointer to send the game to overtime.In the extra frame, the Monarchs were six-of-eight at the line and Carson Liles was a perfect four-for-four.
