MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Fort Hays State University track and field teams delivered commendable performances on day two of the 2024 MIAA Outdoor Championships Saturday. The teams picked up four All-MIAA performances along with four national qualifying marks.

The Tiger women currently sit in fourth place in the teams' standings while the men hold on to the sixth spot. The women have a total of 26 points, while the men accumulated 22 so far.

🏃‍♀️ Four all-conference performances for the Tigers after day two at MIAA

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Nathaniel Lowe had four hits and two RBIs, and the Texas Rangers beat the Kansas City Royals 15-4 on Saturday night.

Lowe went 4 for 6 one night after going hitless in four at bats in Texas' 7-1 loss. It was his first four-hit game since last July 14.

“I guess it was just my turn in the grand pendulum of the swing of baseball," Lowe said. “It was great to have so many guys contribute. We got smoked last night, so it was good to come back tonight.”

Adolis García, Evan Carter and Travis Jankowski also drove in two runs each. Carter scored on a wild pitch after a two-run triple in the third inning. Garcia extended his hitting streak to six games, and Carter had two hits to extend his hit streak to five games.

The Rangers totaled a season-high 17 hits and set a season-high in runs against the team entering the game with the highest run differential in the majors.

Texas had three three-run innings and a five-run ninth to hand Kansas City its worst loss of the season. Two-runs scored on a wild pitch by Colin Selby and a throwing error to third base on the same play to cap a three-run seventh. Joe Smith, Jankowski, Marcus Semien, Leody Taveras and Ezequiel Duran had RBIs in the ninth.

“It was good to see everyone do something to help in the cause," Texas manager Bruce Bochy said. ”We got shut down the night before the guys came out and put together great at-bats it is good for their confidence. ... Everyone did something tonight."

Dane Dunning pitched 4 2/3 innings, giving up two runs and four hits. Dunning had limited the Royals to just one hit through the first four innings.

Josh Sborz (1-0) pitched one inning of relief to get the win.

Michael Wacha (1-4) pitched a season-low 3 2/3 innings, allowing a season-high seven runs and nine hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

“Obviously looked like some missed locations tonight," Royals Manager Matt Quatraro said. "You have to tip your cap to them as well.”

Hunter Renfroe put the Royals on the board with a two-run single to left field with two outs in the fifth. Bobby Witt Jr. recorded his 11th stolen base of the season, which leads the American League.

Vinnie Pasquantino and Garrett Hampson each drove in a run, and Michael Massey had three hits to extend his hitting streak to seven games.

Rangers: Wyatt Langford exited the game in the fifth inning with right hamstring tightness. Langford was 0 for 3.

Royals: RHP Alec Marsh (right elbow contusion) is scheduled to make a rehab start with Triple-A Omaha on May 5. The Royals put Marsh on the 15-day injured list on April 25, making him eligible to return on May 10.

⚾ Diamond Classic All-Tournament Team announced

HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs dropped their final game of
the Western Plains Diamond Classic Saturday 8-5 to Manhattan and finished the
tournament 2-2.

TMP got down early but tied the game midway through before
Manhattan scored three times in the top of the ninth for the 8-5 victory.

Manhattan got the early jump on the Monarchs scoring three runs
in the top of the first inning.

But TMP starter Caden Dinkel settled in and allowed just two
more runs, for a total of five runs, on 10 hits with five strikeouts in eight
total innings. He did not factor into the decision. 

Meanwhile the Monarchs were able to chip away at the Indians
lead.

Down 5-0 the Monarchs scored three times in the bottom of
the third inning.

TMP loaded the bases with back-to-back singles and
a walk and then scored on a wild pitch and an Adler Brown RBI single making it
5-2. Logan Baalmann added an RBI single of his own cutting the Manhattan lead
to 5-3.

TMP scored a run on an error in the fifth and a Baalmann
double in the seventh, tying the game at five.

After both teams threatened to score, but came up empty, in
the eighth inning Manhattan started the ninth with back-to-back walks and then
with one out they scored on an error. They added two more runs on back-to-back fielder’s
choices for an 8-5 lead.

The Monarchs were retired in order in the ninth as they
finish 2-2 at the Diamond Classic.

Logan Baalmann collected two hits and drove in two runs for
the Monarchs. 

Issac Purinton suffered the loss. He allowed three runs, two
unearned, without allowing a hit, with three walks and two strikeouts in the ninth
inning.

⚾ TMP drops final game of Diamond Classic; goes 2-2

The Hays High Indians claimed the championship of the Western Plains Diamond Classic with an 8-4 victory over Life Prep on Saturday.

The Indians scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The first four batters all reached which allowed Cooper Sanders and Johnny Cano to score on a single by Carter Graham. Hays added a third run when Dylan Haselhorst drove in Lex Lummus on a single.

Life Prep scored all four of their runs on one swing in the top of the third inning. The Fire loaded the bases without a hit via two walks and a hit by pitch. A grand slam home run cleared the bases and gave Life Prep a 4-3 advantage.&nbsp;

Hays answered back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the same inning. Lummus scored on a ground out to tie the game. The next three runs occurred with two outs. Tiger Johnson drove in Jack Weimer to take the lead at 5-4. Brett Schumacher provided a single that scored Johnson. Schumacher then scored on a wild pitch for a 7-4 lead.

The Indians added an insurance run in the bottom of the sxith inning when Ian McGuire scored on a ground out for the what ended up being the final score of 8-4.

Tiger Johnson went three and a third innings for the victory. He allowed four runs on four hits. Johnson walked five and struck out three. Johnny Cano earned the multi-inning save with three and two-third innings pitched. He allowed no runs, just one hit, struck out four and walked two.

Hays improves to 15-8 on the season. They will conclude the regular season on Thursday in Salina. Hays will play Buhler at 4:00 and Salina South at 6:00.

Both Hays and Manhattan went 3-1 during the Diamond Classic. Hays beat Manhattan on Friday leaving them as the champions. TMP and Life Prep were each 2-2. Brush, CO finished 0-4. It is the first title for Hays since 2021. This marks their 15th Diamond Classic championship.

MAIZE - Hays High's Colin Clark went 3-1 and finished in third place at the 5A regional tennis tournament hosted by Maize South on Friday to qualify for the 5A state meet in Andover on Friday and Saturday (May 10/11).

Clark defeated Aaron Ramirez of Great Bend 6-0, 6-0 in the first round. He then knocked off Valley Center's Braxton Nicholson 6-1, 6-1 in the second round to secure a trip to state. Clark lost 6-0, 6-2 to Evan Goates of Maize South in the semifinals but bounced back with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Newton's Reid Golubski in the third place match.

Ken Shaffer won his first match 3-6, 7-6 (3), 10-0 over Jacob Hermann of Maize South. Shaffer then lost 6-0, 6-0 to eventual regional champ Evan Goates of Maize South in the second round. WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Fort Hays State baseball team jumped in front of the second-ranked team in the country for a second day in a row, but conference champion Central Missouri battled back to defeat the Tigers in game two of their MIAA Championship quarterfinal series on Saturday, 14-4 at Crane Stadium/Tomkins Field. With the win, the Mules (45-6) advance to the semifinals of the conference tournament next week in Pittsburg, Kan., while the Tigers wrap up the regular season at 25-26 overall.

Fort Hays State was playing in the postseason for the first time since 2013, while the Tigers' 25 wins are their most in a season in a dozen years (29 wins in 2012). Second-year head coach Justin Wichert&nbsp;has now led the team to back-to-back 20-win seasons, a feat not accomplished by FHSU in more than a decade.

Both the Tigers and Mules had chances to score in the first inning, but the Tigers were unable to take advantage of a two-on, one-out situation while the Mules wasted a two-out triple. Fort Hays State broke through in the top of the second when Sebastian Burgos&nbsp;opened a rally with a one-out single. Luis Ayala&nbsp;followed with a single to right center, allowing Burgos to advance to third. Jamison Armstrong&nbsp;then executed on a safety squeeze, laying down a perfect bunt to drive his fellow middle infielder home.

Tiger starter Trevor Baugh&nbsp;worked around a double in the second inning to post another zero before FHSU added to its lead in the third. Cesar Saavedra&nbsp;led off with a single before Brady Kreutzer&nbsp;smashed a one-out home run over the wall in left field, putting the Tigers on top 3-0 for a second game in a row.

The first two batters reached for UCM in the bottom of the inning, but Baugh was able to post another scoreless frame after a flyout, a groundout and some help from Ayala behind the plate on a caught stealing.

The Tigers stranded another runner in the top of the fourth before UCM got on the board in the home half of the inning thanks to a triple and sacrifice fly. FHSU then went down in order before the Mules took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth courtesy of back-to-back home runs. Spencer Maley&nbsp;came out of the bullpen to strike out the side while allowing one base hit, limiting the damage to four runs.

Trailing 5-3, Fort Hays State battled back with a run in the top of the sixth. Trey DeGarmo&nbsp;reached on a leadoff error before scoring from second on another Ayala single. Armstrong then reached on another error, putting two men in scoring position with one out. MIAA Pitcher of the Year Conner Wolf escaped the jam with back-to-back strikeouts, maintaining a 5-4 Mule lead.

Central Missouri continued to pour things on, adding three runs in the bottom of the sixth, two in the seventh and four in the eighth to complete the run-rule victory.

Baugh (3-3) struck out three batters over 4.0 innings of work, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks. Maley&nbsp;struck out three and allowed two unearned runs on two hits. Rafeal Espinoza, Tanner Vaughn, Landyn Sterling and Dylan Rinker&nbsp;also contributed out of the bullpen, with Vaughn and Sterling each striking out one batter.

Saavedra and Ayala both collected two hits in the game, with Kreutzer, Elliott Herrmann&nbsp;and Burgos all adding one base hit. Kreutzer had two RBI on his 12th home run of the season, while Ayala and Armstrong both drove in one RBI.&nbsp;&nbsp;

⚾ Tigers season ends with loss at #2 Central Missouri

KSHSAA released the 2-1A Hays-TMP baseball regional bracket Saturday
and the Monarchs are the two-seed and will open with the No. 7 seed Bennington
on Friday May 10th. 

Sacred earned the No. 1 seed and will take on the winner of
the play-in game between No. 8 seed Little River and No. 9 seed Ellis. That
game will be played at 3 p.m. in Salina. The Knights then will take on the
winner at 5 p.m.

The four vs five matchup features Inman and Ell-Saline.

Ellinwood is the three-seed and will host No. 6 Trinity
Catholic.

All four quarterfinals matchups are set for 5 p.m. on May 10th
with the semifinals and finals May 16th at TMP in Hays.

over Hays High on Thursday, the TMP baseball team went 1-1 on day two.

GAME 1: Life Prep 5, TMP 0 In their first action of the day the Monarchs were held
hitless and managed just seven base runners in a 5-0 loss to Life Prep Academy.

Life Prep scored a pair of runs on an error in the first
inning before the two teams settled in for three straight scoreless innings
before the Fire scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth on their way
to a 5-0 win.

TMP’s Ty Schmeidler battled through 4 2/3 innings, allowed five
runs, two earned on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts but suffered
the loss.

TMP was held to just five walks and had two hit by pitches.

GAME 2: TMP 7, Brush 0 After a disappointing start to the day the Monarchs bounced
back with a 7-0 win over Brusch, Colorado to improve to 2-1 at the tournament.

Carson Liles put the Monarchs on the board in the top of the
first inning with an RBI double. Logan Baalmann added an RBI groundout for a
2-0 lead. 

Neither team was able to score over the next four innings,
before TMP scored two more in the sixth and three in the top of the seventh in
a 7-0 win.

After two quick outs Caden Dinkel drove home a run putting
TMP up 3-0.

Liles followed with an RBI double giving TMP a 4-0 lead.

Leading 4-0 TMP’s Jacob Seib, Joey Mindrup and Baxton
Basgall hit three straight RBI singles giving TMP a 7-0 lead as they went on to
secure the victory. 

Basgall, Dinkel and Liles each collected two hits. Liles

⚾ Monarchs go 1-1 on second day of Diamond Classic

HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs softball team honored their seniors Friday
in the final home doubleheader of the senior and it was a senior who helped
lead them to a sweep of Sylvan-Lucas.

GAME 1: TMP 12, Sylvan-Lucas 4 The Lady Monarchs scored at least one run in every inning and
senior Halle Dreiling collected a career-high four hits in a 12-4 TMP victory.

Sylvan-Lucas collected three hits in the first inning and
scored first.

Trailing 1-0 the Monarchs started off the bottom of the
inning with four straight singles, including the Dreiling base hit that tied
the game at one and Brooke Koenigsman single putting TMP up 2-1.

Bria Windholz added a two-run double to put TMP up 4-1.

After the Mustangs got another run back in the top of the
second TMP’s Halle Dreiling connected on her first homerun of the season in the
bottom of the inning putting TMP up 5-2.

Sylvan-Lucas added a third run in the top of the third
inning cutting TMP’s lead to 5-3.

In the bottom of the inning Raegan Allen doubled home a pair
of runs in the bottom of the third inning putting TMP up 6-3.

Molly Helget added an RBI single for a 7-3 lead.

After Dreiling doubled in the bottom of the fourth, Koenigsman
tripled home the run for an 8-3 TMP lead. Teagan Gottschalk added an RBI single
to put TMP up 9-3.

Sylvan-Lucas added their fourth run of the game in the top
of the fifth but the Monarchs answered right back in the bottom of the inning,
scoring two runs on Dreiling’s second double of the game making it 11-4.

Adison Watson hit her first career homerun in the bottom of
the sixth inning as they Monarchs went on to clinch the 12-4 victory.

On senior day Halle Dreiling finished game one four-for-four
with a homerun, four RBI’s and three runs scored.

Brynn Rebel picked up the victory. She allowed four runs,
three earned, on eight hits with eight strikeouts in seven innings. 

Bria Windholz turned in five shutout innings, allowing just one
run with five strikeouts in the second game of the doubleheader as the Monarchs
claim a 10-0 victory.

Halle Dreiling picked up right where she left off in game
one, doubling in a run to put TMP up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. 

After a scoreless second inning, the Monarchs scored four
runs in each the third and fourth innings.

In the bottom of the third inning the Monarchs collected
five straight singles, scoring on Bridget Feldt and Adison Watson singles for a
3-0 lead. Molly Helget added a sacrifice fly making 4-0 TMP. Brynn Rebel added
an RBI double in the inning putting TMP up 5-0.

After two quick outs in the bottom of the fourth inning Bria
Windholz connected on her first career homerun putting TMP up 6-0 in the bottom
of the fourth.

The Monarchs also scored on an error, a passed ball and an
RBI single for a 9-0 lead.

In the bottom the fifth Dreiling tripled and that was
followed by a Koenigsman sacrifice fly giving TMP the 10-0 run-rule victory.

All but one Monarch collected a hit, all but two scored a
run and two drove in a run.

Molly Helget finished two-for-two with 2RBI’s.

Windholz allowed just one hit and struck out five with three
walks in five shutout innings.

TMP improves to 18-6 and they will close out the regular
season at Great Bend on Tuesday.

The Hays High boys and girls track teams each took second in Salina at the Salina Central Invitational.&nbsp;

The girls finished in a tie for second with fellow conference school Great Bend. Each team finished four points behind host school Salina Central who had 92 points.

The boys scored 100 points and where 38.5 points ahead of third. Manhattan took the team title with 150 points.&nbsp;

Katie Linenberger took the high jump title at 5'3". Lilian McGrath jumped 16'11" for the long jump title. Lyndi Zimmerman added a third gold for the girls by winning the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.50.

🥈 Both Hays High track teams second in Salina

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Fort Hays State baseball team took an early 3-0 lead in its first postseason game in 11 seasons, but conference champion and second-ranked Central Missouri scored the final five runs to take game one of the MIAA Championship quarterfinal series Friday evening, 5-3. The Tigers (25-25) scored three runs in the fourth inning before the Mules (44-6) answered back with three runs in the bottom of the inning and two more in the fifth before hanging on for the win.

Fort Hays State went down in order in the top of the first before starting pitcher Ty Riley&nbsp;issued a pair of walks in the bottom of the inning. The righty got out of the jam with two strikeouts and a ground ball before facing the minimum in the second and third innings.

After the first nine Tiger batters were retired, Cesar Saavedra&nbsp;got on thanks to a walk to start the second time through the order. Brady Kreutzer&nbsp;followed and delivered on a perfectly executed hit and run, sending a double into right center that allowed Saavedra to score from first. After UCM went to the bullpen, Isaiah Ural&nbsp;tripled the lead four pitches later on a 2-1 pitch, putting the Tigers in front 3-0 and extending his hitting streak to 15 games.

Central Missouri collected its first hit of the game with a leadoff single in the bottom of the inning, followed by another single, a triple and a sacrifice fly to tie things up at 3-3. The Mules' first two batters reached base safely in the fifth, but Riley was close to getting out of the inning with back-to-back fly balls. The next batter reached on an error, allowing a run to score before UCM executed a double steal to push the lead to 5-3.

Saavedra singled to lead off the sixth but was later thrown out attempting to take an extra base. Riley sat down the Mules in order in the bottom of the inning before Tanner Vaughn retired six of the seven batters he faced in two innings of relief.

Jamison Armstrong&nbsp;singled with two outs in the top of the eighth, but FHSU was unable to push across a run before going down in order in the ninth.

Riley (4-3) took the loss after surrendering five runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out three batters in 6 innings of work. Vaughn struck out two in his 2 innings of relief, with just one batter reaching via error. Five UCM pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts.

The Tigers will look to extend their season and even the series Saturday when the teams battle in game two beginning at 2 p.m.&nbsp;&nbsp;

⚾ FHSU drops MIAA Tournament opener at #2 Central Missouri

HAYS - Hays High bounced back from Thursday night's loss in the opener of the Western Plains Diamond Classic with a pair of wins Friday at Leo-Harper Field.

Hays 4, Manhattan 3 Corbin Werth scored the walk-off win for the hometown Indians after Brett Schumacher put the ball in play with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth.

Carter Graham started the inning with a lead-off double. Werth entered the game as a pinch runner. Dylan Haselhorst was hit by a pitch. Cooper Sanders was then intentionally walked to load the bases.

Hays scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second when Haselhorst drove in Jack Weimer on a single.&nbsp;

Manhattan was held scoreless until the fourth when they tied the game on a bases loaded hit by pitch. Starting pitcher Nolan Dreher got out of the bases loaded jam thanks to a double play turned by Sanders, Weimer and Lex Lummus.

Manhattan added two runs in the top of the fifth inning for a 3-1 advantage. Hays tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth.&nbsp;

The game would need two extra innings before Hays took the victory. Dreher pitched a career high eight innings. He allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits. He struck out two and walked four. Johnny Cano earned the win in relief by pitching the ninth. He needed just seven pitches to retire the side.

Hays 7, Brush (Colo.) 0 Hays scored runs in five of six innings on their way to a 7-0 win over the Brush Beetdiggers from Colorado.

Perez hit his eighth home run of the season in Kansas City's six-run seventh inning to break open what was a pitcher's duel. Kyle Isbel, Vinnie Pasquantino and Bobby Witt Jr. had RBI singles before Perez gave the Royals a 7-1 lead.

Prior to that, Michael Lorenzen had his best start of the season for Texas, giving up three hits and one run — on a homer by Hunter Renfroe — in six innings. He walked two and struck out three while throwing 86 pitches.

Cole Winn (0-1) then gave up four runs in one-third of an inning and Jose Urena gave up two more before closing out the inning.

The Royals have won three straight and seven of their last 10. The Rangers had won three of their previous four.

Singer allowed just one run and four hits while striking out eight with no walks. He hasn’t given up more than one run in five of his seven starts this season.

The lone blemish against Singer came on an RBI single by Corey Seager that drove in Marcus Semien in the third inning.

John Schreiber (3-0) worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh, striking out Semien to keep the score at 1-1 before the Royals' big inning in the bottom half.

⚾ Salvador Perez hits 3-run HR as Royals beat Rangers 

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Fort Hays State University's track and field team demonstrated exceptional talent during the first day of the 2024 MIAA Outdoor Championships. Competing in the heptathlon, seniors Maggie Remsberg and Tylor Savolt&nbsp;finished in the top five after day one of competition.

In the heptathlon, Maggie Remsberg led the charge for the Tigers, securing the second position with an impressive total of 3,113 points. Remsberg's performance was highlighted by her strong showing in the 100m hurdles, where she clocked 14.49 seconds, earning her 910 points and a third-place finish. She excelled in the 200m event as well, crossing the line in 25.78 seconds, securing 817 points and a fourth-place finish.

Taylor Savlot&nbsp;also delivered a noteworthy performance, holding the fourth position with a total of 2,833 points. Savolt dominated the 100m hurdles, clocking an impressive 14.47 seconds, earning her 913 points and a first-place finish in the event.
