Both the Hays High boys and girls wrestling teams are ranked in the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association Class Pre-State 5A rankings released Tuesday. The Indian girls remained seventh while the boys are eighth. Both have five individuals ranked.
Leading the way for the girls is freshman Audrey Yarmer (100) and junior Eleanor Stoffel (190) who are both ranked second in their respective weight classes. Senior Lexi Barnett is fourth at 155, junior Timber Lovewell fifth at 145 and senior Reese Vehige sixth at 130. All five have qualified for this week’s 5A State Tournament in Park City. Stoffel was a regional champ and Yarmer finished runner-up.
Senior Jaxson Chartier is the highest ranked wrestler for the Indian boys, moving up two spots to No. 2 at 215 after his runner-up finish at regionals this past Saturday. Regional champs Johnny Rigler (190) and Tanner Giest (285) are both ranked third. Archer Amrein is fourth at 175 and sophomore Gaven Denneault sixth at 106.
The Russell girls sit atop the 3-2-1A team rankings with Norton second, Oakley third, Plainville fourth, Smith Center fifth and Phillipsburg sixth heading into this weekend’s state tournament at Gross Memorial Coliseum.
The Hoxie boys are No. 1, Norton third, Ellsworth fourth and Smith Center eighth.
