ELLSWORTH – The TMP-Marian boys golf team brought home a
second-place finish from the Ellsworth Invitational Tournament on Thursday.

The Monarchs were led by Heuer Brungardt with a fourth-place finish. He fired a eight-over 78.

Ellinwood won the tournament with a combined score of 319.


Hoisington was third followed by Beloit and Russell.

TMP’s Griffin Schumacher finished 10th with an
89. Peyton Schwartz finished with a 91 and was 12th. 

Evan Balthazor scored an even 100 and finished tied for 22nd.

Russell’s Jake Mooney won the tournament with a two-over 72.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Fort Hays State baseball team garnered seven recognitions from the 2024 MIAA Baseball Postseason Awards and All-MIAA Teams, announced Thursday (May 2) by the league office. Six different Tigers were recognized, including one first-team pick, three third-team selections, one honorable mention accolade and two Gold Glove Award recipients.

Ty Riley&nbsp;was a first team selection at starting pitcher, becoming the first Tiger to receive first-team status in 11 years. Third team honors went to Elliott Herrmann&nbsp;at first base and Brady Kreutzer and Isaiah Ural&nbsp;in the outfield. Rafael Espinoza&nbsp;was an honorable mention pick at starting pitcher, while Herrmann (1B) and Trey DeGarmo&nbsp;(3B) both earned Gold Glove Awards at their positions. They are the first two Tigers to earn that distinction that was first awarded in 2017.

Riley earned first-team status after a stellar first season on the mound as a Tiger. The junior right hander led FHSU in ERA (3.28), WHIP (1.31), batting average against (.212) and strikeouts (73). His 73 strikeouts are third-most in the MIAA while he ranks second in the conference in opposing batting average and third in ERA. Riley needs two strikeouts to crack the top 10 list in a single season at FHSU, while his average of 1.21 strikeouts per inning currently ranks third-best in a single season in team history. He tied for second on the team with four victories.

The Bentonville, Ark. native struck out five or more batters seven times in 14 appearances, including four contests with eight or more punchouts. He was named MIAA Pitcher of the Week after striking out 12 batters in 6.0 innings against Pittsburg State in April.

Herrmann collected third-team honors after leading the team and ranking third in the conference with 14 home runs. The Castle Rock, Colo. native drove in a team-high 54 RBI in the regular season, ninth-most in the league. He was hit by a pitch 14 times on the year, tied for sixth-most in a single season in program history. Herrmann needs two home runs to crack the top 10 list in a single season at FHSU. He recorded multiple hits 17 times, including a team-best five base knocks in a win over Newman in March. Herrmann was named MIAA co-Hitter of the Week back in March after batting 8-for-15 with 14 RBI across five games.

The first baseman also played stellar defense at first base, earning the Gold Glove award after posting a fielding percentage of .992 on 387 chances. He compiled 369 putouts, 15 assists and was involved in 24 double plays while committing just three errors on the season.

Kreutzer put together an impressive junior campaign, leading the Tigers in batting average (.335), slugging percentage (.654), OPS (1.069), hits (63), runs scored (53), triples (seven) and total bases (123). The Hays native tied the school record with his seven triples this season, which leads the conference and ranks third in all Division II. He was seventh in the league and in the top 50 nationally in total bases. The left fielder led FHSU with 19 multi-hit games this season and had the longest hitting streak of the year at 17 games. He scored a team-high four runs in a win over Newman in March. Kreutzer also led the team with six sacrifice flies, tied for the most in the conference.

Ural nabbed All-MIAA honors for a second-consecutive season after picking up honorable mention accolades last year. He received third-team honors this year after leading the team in on-base percentage (.417) and doubles (15). The center fielder ranked second on the team in batting average (.322) and stolen bases (12) while totaling 39 runs, 39 RBI and nine home runs. The Albuquerque, N.M. native turned things up a notch over the last month of the season, finishing the regular season on a 14-game hitting streak and a 16-game reached base streak. He is batting .483 (29-for-60) over the hitting streak with 17 RBI. He was named MIAA co-Hitter of the Week in the middle of the hitting streak after clubbing four home runs and slugging 1.158 across four games.

Espinoza had a solid freshman season on the mound for the Tigers, tossing the only two nine-inning complete games for the team. He was second on the team amongst qualified pitchers with a WHIP of 1.45 and a batting average against of .279. The Imperial, Calif. native posted an ERA of 5.40 and was tied for second on the pitching staff with four victories, striking out 38 batters in 55.0 innings of work.

DeGarmo has been a brick wall at third base all season, regularly making spectacular plays look routine. He did not commit an error across the first 47 games of the season, finishing the year with a fielding percentage of .985 thanks to 32 putouts, 100 assists and two errors on 134 chances. He was involved in seven double plays.

Fort Hays State's five All-MIAA selections are the most in a single season for the Tigers since 2016, while this is the first time since 2007 that FHSU has had at least four players on the first, second and third teams.

The Tigers will play in the postseason for the first time in 11 years beginning Friday (May 3, 6 p.m.) when FHSU battles top-seeded Central Missouri in a best-of-three quarterfinal series in Warrensburg, Mo.

After picking up their first MIAA Tournament win since 2014 with a 2-1 win over Missouri Western State Wednesday night, the Fort Hays State softball team will face MIAA regular season co-champ Pittsburg State in Thursday's quarterfinals at Gerry Pinkston Stadium in Edmond, Okla. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

#2 seed – Pittsburg State (49-5, 23-3 MIAA) Series Record: FHSU leads 24-22 -The Gorillas earned a share of the MIAA regular season title with Rogers State. It was the first MIAA regular season title for the Gorillas in 30 years, last earning a share of the MIAA title in 1994. -Pittsburg State reached a new single-season program record for wins in a season with 49, passing its former high set in 1994 with a record of 48-15. -The Gorillas were the No. 1 ranked team in the NCAA Central Region rankings released on April 24. The MIAA has the top-three regionally ranked teams and four teams in the top six of the region rankings. -The Gorillas are ranked No. 4 in the latest NFCA national rankings going into the MIAA Tournament. -Pittsburg State swept the regular season doubleheader with FHSU in Pittsburg by scores of 8-0 (6 inn.) and 4-1. It snapped a 7-game win streak FHSU had in the series going into the doubleheader. -Fort Hays State owns a 4-0 record against Pittsburg State in the MIAA Tournament. The last meeting occurred in 2013 when FHSU defeated PSU in the opening round as Maddie Holub threw one of her six no-hitters that season for FHSU in an 8-0 (5 inn.) win. That meeting was in Overland Park, Kan. -FHSU leads the NCAA Division II series history between the schools at 24-22. -PSU's last neutral site win over FHSU was in 2010 in Maryville, Mo. by a score of 2-0. -Ava Laurent leads PSU pitching with a 1.97 ERA and 18-1 record. She has 192 strikeouts in 149.1 innings pitched, while throwing seven shutouts and 15 complete games this season. She has one no-hitter this season, which occurred in an 8-0 (5 inn.) win against Truman on March 3. PSU has two no hitters thrown this season, the other by Chelsea Beville in an 8-0 (5 inn.) win against Rockhurst on February 25. -Heather Arnett leads the MIAA in hitting with a .452 batting average. EDMOND, Okla. – Fort Hays State Softball picked up its first postseason play win since the 2014 season on Wednesday evening at Gerry Pinkston Stadium. The No. 10 seeded Tigers won 2-1 over the No. 7 seeded Griffons of Missouri Western to improve to 27-24 overall. The Tigers moved on to Thursday night's quarterfinal game against No. 2 seed Pittsburg State. Missouri Western closed its season at 31-20 overall.

The Tigers snapped their 10-game losing skid in MIAA Tournament games behind a strong pitching effort from Savanah Egger, who allowed only one run on three hits. She had a shutout going through the first five innings with just one hit allowed before the Griffons generated a run off a pair of hits in the sixth. Egger buckled down in a high leverage moment and got a big strikeout to avoid any further damage, keeping the Tigers on top by one.

The Tigers built a 2-0 lead for Egger, which proved to be enough to collect her 15th&nbsp;win and 21st&nbsp;complete game of the season. FHSU came out of the gate with a run in the first inning, thanks to back-to-back singles by Carly Stuke&nbsp;and Peyton Shepard&nbsp;to open the game. Alondra Dominguez&nbsp;drove in the first run of the game with an RBI double, scoring Stuke. An error by the Griffons in the fifth inning led to another run for the Tigers when Loren Beggs&nbsp;knocked in Shepard with an RBI single.

A big call provided some tense moments in the Griffons sixth. They had a pair of hits to open the inning and then scored their only run on an obstruction call at home plate. The throw took Madison Pierce&nbsp;into the runner's path, but the decision stood after review. Egger nailed down the final two outs of the inning with a flyout and then a big swinging strikeout to avoid any further damage. Egger retired the side in order in the seventh to slam the door shut on the Griffons, including one of her five strikeouts in the game

Fort Hays State outhit Missouri Western 8-3 in the game. Lilliana Ramirez-Johnson&nbsp;led the Tigers with two hits.

Sydney Rader also threw a complete game for the Griffons, finishing with six strikeouts to go with her one earned run allowed.

Fort Hays State faces Pittsburg State in the quarterfinals on Thursday night (March 2) at 6:30 p.m. It will be the fourth quarterfinal game of the day at Gerry Pinkston Stadium in Edmond.

🥎 Tigers knock off Griffons in MIAA Tournament Opening Round

TORONTO (AP) — Seth Lugo pitched seven strong innings to win for the fifth time in seven starts, Michael Massey hit a three-run home run and the Kansas City Royals beat the Toronto Blue Jays 6-1 on Wednesday.

Bobby Witt Jr. had two hits, scored once and also drove in a run as the Royals won for the fifth time in seven meetings with Toronto.

Witt also turned in a highlight defensive play,&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/BallySportsKC/status/1785772790953447504">making a sliding stop and throwing from one knee</a>&nbsp;to retire Bo Bichette for the final out of the sixth inning.

Salvador Perez had an RBI single and extended his career-best streak of reaching base safely to 21 games. His 27 RBIs lead the American League.

Massey homered off right-hander Nate Pearson in the eighth, his second in two games. He finished with four RBIs.

Lugo (5-1) allowed just one hit, Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s single in the first, until Toronto catcher Danny Jansen homered with two outs in the seventh. The solo blast was Jansen’s third of the season.

Lugo walked two and struck out eight. He lowered his ERA to 1.60.

Chris Stratton worked the eighth and Nick Anderson finished.

Blue Jays right-hander Chris Bassitt (2-5) didn’t allow a hit through five innings, but had his outing unravel after Royals center fielder Kyle Isbel doubled to begin the sixth.

Maikel Garcia sacrificed Isbel to third and Witt followed with a tiebreaking single through the drawn-in infield.

Vinnie Pasquantino doubled, advancing Witt to third, and Perez made it 2-0 with another base hit through the infield. Massey’s RBI groundout capped the inning.

Bassitt lost his third straight start, allowing three runs and four hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out four.

The Royals used replay review to confirm that Perez was hit by a two-out pitch in the fourth inning. Massey struck out to end the frame.

Perez started at catcher for Kansas City. He was scratched from Monday’s start behind the plate but came on as a pinch hitter. Perez started at first base Tuesday.

Royals: RHP Brady Singer (2-1, 2.62) is scheduled to start Friday as Kansas City hosts Texas. RHP Michael Lorenzen (2-1, 4.24) goes for the Rangers.

🥎📻 LISTEN - Tigers open MIAA Tourney play against Missouri Western

After dropping out of the weekly coaches rankings the TMP-Marian
baseball team is back among top 10 teams in 2-1A this week.

The Monarchs are ranked 5th this week with a 14-6
record.

They jumped into the polls, for the first time, April 8th
at No. 10 after a 6-2 start. 

The next week they moved up five spots to fifth but dropped
out of the polls the next week after suffering four straight losses to state
ranked teams.

Since then they have won four straight, including handing
previous No. 1 Sacred Heart their first losses of the season, in a doubleheader
sweep on Monday.

The Monarchs will take on Hays High Thursday in the first
game of the Hays Diamond Classic.

They are then scheduled to face Brush, Colorado, Manhattan

baseball team is back among top 10 teams in 2-1A this week.The Monarchs are ranked 5th this week with a 14-6
record.They jumped into the polls, for the first time, April 8th
at No. 10 after a 6-2 start. The next week they moved up five spots to fifth but dropped
out of the polls the next week after suffering four straight losses to state
ranked teams.Since then they have won four straight, including handing
previous No. 1 Sacred Heart their first losses of the season, in a doubleheader
sweep on Monday.The Monarchs will take on Hays High Thursday in the first
game of the Hays Diamond Classic.They are then scheduled to face Brush, Colorado, Manhattan
and Life Prep in the Hays tournament before wrapping up the regular season at
Garden City.

TORONTO (AP) — Michael Massey hit a two-run home run, Cole Ragans struck out nine in 6 2/3 innings, and the Kansas City Royals beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1 on Tuesday night to snap a three-game losing streak.

Bobby Witt Jr. reached base three times and drove in a run as the Royals improved to 17-11 in April. It’s the most victories Kansas City has had in a month since going 17-9 in June 2017.

Ragans (2-2) allowed one run and four hits. The left-hander left because of cramping in his left calf after walking consecutive batters. John Schreiber came on and retired Cavan Biggio to end the inning.

Schreiber got four outs and right-hander James McArthur finished for his seventh save in eight chances.

Blue Jays right-hander José Berríos (4-2) allowed two runs and five hits in seven innings but lost to Ragans for the second straight outing. Ragans got the win as the Royals won a rain-shortened game in Kansas City last Thursday.

Massey struck out to end Monday’s 6-5 loss, stranding the tying run at third base. On Tuesday, the second baseman homered on the second pitch he saw from Berríos in the second inning.

Toronto’s Bo Bichette hit a two-out RBI single in the sixth but Witt made it 3-1 with an RBI double off Erik Swanson in the eighth. Génesis Cabrera replaced Swanson and gave up an RBI double to Vinnie Pasquantino.

Salvador Perez started at first base for Kansas City one night after being scratched from a start behind the plate because of a sore back. Perez had a pinch hit single in the ninth inning of Monday’s 6-5 loss and was replaced by a pinch runner.

With a leadoff single in the second inning Tuesday, Perez extended his career-best streak of reaching base safely to 20 games.

Toronto’s Davis Schneider hit a one-out single in the second but Royals right fielder Hunter Renfroe threw Schneider out at second base as he tried to extend his hit. Renfroe leads the major leagues with 67 outfield assists since 2017.

George Springer started in center field for the Blue Jays. He didn’t make a single start in center in 2023.

Royals: Kansas City recalled RHP Colin Selby from Triple-A Omaha and optioned RHP Jonathan Bowlan to Triple-A.

Blue Jays: Toronto put RHP Yariel Rodríguez (back) on the 15-day IL and recalled RHP Zach Pop from Triple-A Buffalo. Rodríguez started Monday, allowing three runs and six hits in 3 2/3 innings. … RHP Alek Manoah (shoulder) allowed one run and two hits in six innings in a rehab start at Triple-A. Manoah struck out 12 and walked two.

Blue Jays RHP Chris Bassitt (2-4, 5.64) is expected to start Wednesday's series finale. Kansas City’s scheduled starter is RHP Seth Lugo (4-1, 1.66).

⚾ Ragans fans 9 as Royals snap 3-game losing streak, beat Blue Jays

PLAINVILLE – The TMP-Marian softball team scored 36 runs on
33 hits and cruised to a doubleheader sweep of Plainville Tuesday. The Monarchs
won 17-2 and 19-3 to run their winning streak to four games. The Monarchs are
now 16-6 on the season while the Cardinals drop to 6-10.

Game 1: TMP-Marian17, Plainville 2 (4 innings)
 Brooke Koeningsman drove in five runs on two hits. The junior hit a three-run
homer to center field in the second and added a two-run triple in the third.

After a scoreless first inning, the Monarchs scored seven runs
in the second to take the lead for good . Teagan Gottschalk and Molly Helget
both had run-scoring singles. TMP scored two more runs on a wild pitch before Koeningsman
hit the three-run homer.

TMP scored five runs on five hits in the top of the third
then five more runs on two hits in the fourth.

Brynn Rebel (7-3) picked up the run-rule complete game
victory allowing two unearned runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and no
walks. She also had three hits in the game.

Game 2: TMP-Marian 19, Plainville 3 (6 innings)
 Brooke Koeninsgman drove in four runs on four hits to lead the Monarchs 20-hit
attack. Koeningsman drove in two with a single in the first, had a run-scoring
single in the fifth and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

The Monarchs scored two runs in the first, one in the second,
four in the third and fifth then put the game away with a seven-run sixth.

Brynn Rebel had four hits and drove in two runs. 

Bria Windholz (9-3) went all six innings in the circle and picked
up the win allowing three runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts and one
walk. Windholz also drove in three runs at the plate.

🥎 TMP-Marian cruises to doubleheader sweep of Plainville

HAYS - Hays High entered their final three-game Western Athletic Conference series of the season by hosting Liberal in a doubleheader on Tuesday.

The Indians entered the week as the conference leaders.

Game 1:&nbsp;Hays 15, Liberal 0 (3 innings) Hays plated seven runs in the first, two in the second and six in the third to take game one 15-0.

Six of the Indians runs in the first inning came with two outs. Hays sent 12 to plate in that inning.

Starting pitcher Aubree Thomas(6-2) faced the minimum in the first and third innings. Liberal loaded the bases in the second with one out. Thomas ended the inning with back-to-back strikeouts. She struck out seven and walked two. Liberal did not record a hit.

Each of the nine players in the batting lineup for Hays recorded at least one hit. Dani Willeford, Riley Dreher, Lakyn Zimmerman, Haley Rees and Lauren Klein each had multiple hits. The Indians recorded 15 hits. Avery Solida, Rees and Dreher each doubled. Dreher added a triple.

Game 2:&nbsp;Hays 13, Liberal 3 (5 innings) Like in game one, Hays ended the second game of the double header early with a run-rule 13-3 victory.

Liberal touched home plate first with a single run in the top of the second inning. Hays jumped to the lead by scoring five runs in the bottom of the same inning.

Hays extended their lead to 13-1 with four runs in each the bottom of the third and fourth innings. Liberal nearly extended the game with two runs in the top of the fifth, but left a runner at third base when the game ended on a strikeout.

Riley Dreher(7-4) took the victory pitching all five innings. She allowed six hits, three runs (two earned), walked one and struck out six.&nbsp;

The Indians drew seven walks in the victory and were hit by three pitches. Hays recorded seven hits. Lakyn Zimmerman and Aubree Thomas each had two hits. Thomas and Dani Willeford both drove in four runs in the victory. Riley Dreher knocked in a pair of runs as well.

Hays has claimed the WAC softball crown for a second consecutive year. At the moment they have a minimum share of the title. They can win it outright in Liberal on Thursday. Hays improves to 14-7, 10-1. Liberal falls to 5-14, 0-7.

🥎 Hays claims share of WAC title with sweep

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Peyton Shepard and Loren Beggs&nbsp;of the Fort Hays State softball team were each named All-MIAA on Tuesday. Both were honorable mention selections. Shepard earned All-MIAA status for a second-straight year, while Beggs received the first all-conference nod in her career at FHSU. Also earning honors was Regan Curry, named to the Gold Glove Team at shortstop. The All-MIAA and Gold Glove Teams are selected by the head coaches within the MIAA.

Shepard, a sophomore outfielder, has been the offensive leader for FHSU in several categories for the second-straight season putting up near identical marks to her freshman campaign. Shepard enters the MIAA Tournament with a team-leading .375 batting average, 63 hits, .440 slugging percentage, .432 on-base percentage, and 19 stolen bases. As a freshman in 2023, she hit .373 with a .400 slugging percentage, .431 on-base percentage, and 19 stolen bases. Last year, Shepard received a second-team selection in the outfield.

Beggs, a senior third baseman, is hitting .315 for the 2024 season entering the MIAA Tournament. She leads the Tigers in home runs (3) and RBIs (26) this season. She is tied for the team lead in extra-base hits with 11. Beggs has also put together one of her best defensive seasons with a .950 fielding percentage at third base and ranks second on the team in defensive assists with 86.Curry, junior shortstop, has enjoyed another rock-solid season defensively for the Tigers. She holds a .963 fielding percentage for the season with just six errors on 164 defensive chances, leading the Tigers in defensive assists with 91. She is nearly dead even with her fielding percentage from last season when she had a .964 fielding percentage with just seven errors on 196 defensive chances. She has 293 defensive assists in her career, which ranks fifth in program history.

 </figure>FHSU AthleticsKANSAS CITY, Mo. - Peyton Shepard and Loren Beggs&nbsp;of the Fort Hays State softball team were each named All-MIAA on Tuesday. Both were honorable mention selections. Shepard earned All-MIAA status for a second-straight year, while Beggs received the first all-conference nod in her career at FHSU. Also earning honors was Regan Curry, named to the Gold Glove Team at shortstop. The All-MIAA and Gold Glove Teams are selected by the head coaches within the MIAA.Shepard, a sophomore outfielder, has been the offensive leader for FHSU in several categories for the second-straight season putting up near identical marks to her freshman campaign. Shepard enters the MIAA Tournament with a team-leading .375 batting average, 63 hits, .440 slugging percentage, .432 on-base percentage, and 19 stolen bases. As a freshman in 2023, she hit .373 with a .400 slugging percentage, .431 on-base percentage, and 19 stolen bases. Last year, Shepard received a second-team selection in the outfield.Beggs, a senior third baseman, is hitting .315 for the 2024 season entering the MIAA Tournament. She leads the Tigers in home runs (3) and RBIs (26) this season. She is tied for the team lead in extra-base hits with 11. Beggs has also put together one of her best defensive seasons with a .950 fielding percentage at third base and ranks second on the team in defensive assists with 86.Curry, junior shortstop, has enjoyed another rock-solid season defensively for the Tigers. She holds a .963 fielding percentage for the season with just six errors on 164 defensive chances, leading the Tigers in defensive assists with 91. She is nearly dead even with her fielding percentage from last season when she had a .964 fielding percentage with just seven errors on 196 defensive chances. HAYS - The TMP-Marian Monarchs handed the state ranked Sacred Heart
Knights their first losses of the season Monday as they picked up a doubleheader
sweep at home, winning 12-2 and 7-0.

GAME 1: TMP 12, Sacred Heart 2 (5 innings) In the first game of the doubleheader the Monarchs scored
four runs in the third inning and then blew the game open with eight in the fifth
on their way to the 12-2 victory.

After Sacred Heart scored the game’s first run, in the top
of the third inning, TMP answered with four in the bottom of the third.

Logan Baalmann got the scoring started with an RBI single,
scoring Joey Mindrup who led off the inning with a walk. Then with the bases loaded
Ty Schmeidler was hit by a pitch putting TMP up 2-1. Adler Brown followed with
a bases loaded walk making it 3-1 and then a Kendall Walked RBI ground out gave
TMP a 4-1 lead through three innings.

Sacred Heart got a run back in the top of the fourth before
the Monarchs offense scored eight times in the bottom of the fifth. 

After a walk and a single to open the inning an error by the
third baseman allowed a run to score putting TMP up 5-2. Kendall Walker loaded
the bases with a walk ahead of Connor Breit who plated a run with a bases
loaded walk for a 6-2 lead.

Then with the bases loaded Mindrup cleared the bases on a double
to left field giving TMP a 9-2 lead.

Later in the inning Caden Dinkel doubled in a run, Carson
Liles followed with an RBI single and then Ty Schmeidler ended the game with an
RBI triple giving TMP the 12-2 run-rule victory in five innings.

Mindrup, one of two seniors honor for the Monarchs on senior
day, finished 3-for-4 with three RBI’s and two runs scored. The
Monarchs also honored fellow senior Kendall Walker Monday.

Schmeidler earned the win. He allowed two runs on five hits
with seven strikeouts and one walk in four innings.

GAME 2: TMP 7, Sacred Heart 0 The Monarchs offensive output carried over into game two,
scoring four runs in the first on their way to a 7-o victory.

The first four hitters of the bottom of the first for TMP
reached, three on singles and one on an error. 

The first two runs scored on an error by the left field from
Sacred Heart. Logan Baalmann added the third run of the game for TMP on a single
to left. He later scored on a wild pitch making it 4-0 TMP. 

Leading 4-0, with two outs in the second inning, Baalmann added another RBI single putting TMP up 5-0. The Monarchs added a sixth run on
a wild pitch for a 6-0 lead through two innings.

In the third inning TMP loaded the bases, thanks to
back-to-back hit by pitches and a walk, for Joey Mindrup who drove in a run
with a sacrifice fly for a 7-0 TMP lead.

The Monarchs pitching did the rest on their way to the 7-0
victory.

Carson Liles earned the win. He allowed four hits with two
walks and five strikeouts in 4 2/3 scoreless innnigs. 

Adler Brown and Caden Dinkel combined for 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Braxton Basgall and Logan Baalmann each collected&nbsp; two hits and Baalman drove in two in the win.

TMP improves to 14-6 while Sacred Heart falls to 16-2.

TMP will take on Hays High Thursday in the first game of the
Diamond Classic at Hays High.

⚾ Monarchs sweep top ranked Sacred Heart

TORONTO (AP) — Justin Turner hit two home runs, Danny Jansen added a solo homer and the Toronto Blue Jays held on to beat the Kansas City Royals 6-5 on Monday night.

Turner hit a two-run home run in the first inning and had a leadoff homer in the third. It was the 16th multihomer game of his career.

Jansen also connected in the third, his second.

The Blue Jays scored more than five runs for the first time in 21 games, ending a streak that dated back to&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/yankees-blue-jays-score-26df01230f38e755b29c9e6488414d3f">a 9-8 loss at Yankee Stadium</a>&nbsp;on April 6.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Davis Schneider each drove in a run as Toronto won back-to-back games after losing the previous five.

Royals&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/salvador-perez-tight-back-royals-f7d1c7ab666f89964c5d1ab2742bc41f">catcher Salvador Perez was scratched</a>&nbsp;from the starting lineup because of a tight back but delivered a pinch-hit single with two out in the ninth. Dairon Blanco ran for Perez, who hit for DH Nelson Velázquez

Toronto’s Nate Pearson struck out Kansas City’s Michael Massey to end it, stranding the tying run at third base. The save was Pearson’s first of the season.

Kyle Isbel homered and drove in two runs but the Royals lost their third straight. Freddy Fermin also homered for Kansas City, his first.

Recalled from Triple-A Omaha to make his second career start, Royals right-hander Jonathan Bowlan (0-1) allowed four runs and six hits in 2 2/3 innings, including three home runs.

Blue Jays right-hander Yariel Rodríguez allowed three runs and six hits in 3 2/3 innings but left with the bases loaded. Génesis Cabrera came on and retired Vinnie Pasquantino to escape the jam.

Cabrera (1-0) got four outs for the victory.

Isbel’s homer, his third, came off right-hander Trevor Richards in the sixth.

Fermin made it 6-5 with a leadoff homer off righty Erik Swanson in the eighth.

Kansas City optioned RHP Will Klein to Triple-A to make room for Bowlan.

RHP José Berríos (4-1, 1.23 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Blue Jays on Tuesday night against Kansas City LHP Cole Ragans (1-2, 3.90).

The Indians had a clean sweep Monday in Liberal. Colin Clark won No. 1 Singles, Ken Shaffer No. 2
Singles, Xavier Catura and Kale Schwien No. 1 Doubles and Henry Fitzhum and
Carsen Riat No. 2 Doubles. All went 4-0 on the day. 

Colin Clark was named the WAC Player of
the Year and Kayla Brown the WAC Coach of the Year.

It's the first WAC title for the HHS boys since 2022. Their other title came in 1986.

The Indians head to Maize South Friday for 5A regional play.

The Indians have won five of their last six matches and improved to 9-4 on the season.
