With the expectations of COVID-19 disruptions throughout the Association’s 2020-2021 basketball season, the method will apply a weighted formula to the standings each week.&nbsp;<br><br>The Association’s Athletic Directors unanimously approved the weighted formula, which is comprised of 80 percent of a team’s winning percentage and 20 percent of the team’s total number of games played. Another element of the formula is that an MIAA team must complete a minimum number of 11 games to be eligible to qualify for the MIAA Basketball Championship and to claim the regular-season championship.&nbsp;<br><br>In a season that could see a disparity in the total number of games completed by each MIAA member, the MIAA’s traditional use of conference winning percentage will not be used. The new method for the standings will begin to be used by the Association’s office on Monday, December 14. The Division II Administrative Committee on Monday approved a recommendation to reduce bracket and field sizes for the 2021 Division II winter and spring championships.

The reductions were made to alleviate expected budget shortfalls, specifically as the Division II&nbsp; budget for the 2020-21 fiscal year faces challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The field and bracket size reductions of the 18 Division II 2021 winter and spring championships vary by sport, with 12 of them being reduced by 25%. The reductions, listed below, were initially recommended by each sport committee. The Division II Championships Committee and the Division II Planning and Finance Committee each approved the recommendations. The reductions that are more or less than 25% were made because of logistical or practical concerns with operating that sport’s championship.

Projected expenses to host championships this fiscal year are higher because of testing and other safety protocols. Ticket revenues for the Association are projected to be lower due to limited fan attendance. Even including the savings from the cancellation of the Division II 2020 fall championships, holding the division’s 2021 winter and spring championships with full brackets and field sizes was projected to exceed the Division II championship budget for the 2020-21 fiscal year.

Additionally, Division II needed to use nearly $5 million from its reserves to cover expenses for the 2019-20 fiscal year. Lost revenue from the cancellation of the Division I Men’s Basketball Championships caused Division II to be allocated nearly $35 million less than it was projected for the 2019-20 fiscal year. Division II did receive $15 million in event cancellation insurance —&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/media-center/news/look-ncaa-s-financial-contingency-plan">part of $270 million the NCAA received between multiple policies</a>&nbsp;— that helped mitigate the financial impact.

The Administrative Committee emphasized that the Division II governance structure will continue to monitor circumstances presented by COVID-19, such as each sport’s sponsorship numbers, and will remain nimble in adjusting the division’s championships as needed.

“While reducing any number of championship opportunities is an undesirable outcome, Division II’s Championships Committee and its sport committees worked incredibly hard to preserve as many of those opportunities as possible for the winter and spring athletes who did not receive them last season,” said Sandra Jordan, chancellor at South Carolina Aiken and chair of the Division II Presidents Council. “These reductions are also one-year changes, made during a pandemic in order to secure the long-term future of the division. Division II will remain flexible and make every effort to conduct championships at full capacity moving forward.”

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs are so dynamic offensively they sometimes don’t even know when they’ve scored a touchdown.

They were fortunate one of those cases didn’t come back to bite them Sunday night.

Patrick Mahomes threw for 318 yards and a score, Harrison Butker was perfect on five field-goal attempts, and the underrated Chiefs defense bailed out an offense that struggled once again in the red zone — and made two big mistakes that cost them touchdowns — in a 22-16 victory over the Denver Broncos.

Travis Kelce had eight receptions for 136 yards along with the go-ahead TD grab late in the third quarter, and Tyrann Mathieu twice picked off Broncos quarterback Drew Lock — the second with 24 seconds left to seal the win — as the Chiefs clinched a playoff berth by improving to 11-1 for the second time in franchise history.

“It’s obviously a big deal — you want to find a way to get in the playoffs,” Mahomes said, “but we have bigger goals.”

It might help their cause if the Chiefs actually count the touchdowns they score.

The play everyone was left talking about came on third-and-10 at the Denver 40 early in the second quarter. Mahomes found a wide-open Tyreek Hill downfield, only for him to appear to drop the certain touchdown. But replays clearly showed the ball trapped between Hill and a defender, never touching the ground, for what should have been a score.

Hill never argued when it was called incomplete, though, nor did Chiefs coach Andy Reid throw his red challenge flag.

Instead, he quickly sent his punt team out and tried to pin the Broncos deep in their own territory.

“I checked with Tyreek,” Reid said afterward. “He came off, and normally you can tell with a receiver whether he had it or not — especially Tyreek — and he was surprised as any of us he ended up with the football.”

Hill also had a 48-yard touchdown reception wiped out by holding late in the game, which gave the Broncos (4-8) a chance to march for the go-ahead score. Denver managed to move to midfield before stalling, but rather than going for it on fourth-and-3 with 6 minutes to go, coach Vic Fangio elected to punt the ball away.

The Chiefs melted most of the clock before Butker kicked a 48-yard field goal with 1:06 left, and the Kansas City defense forced Lock into a wild fourth-down throw that Tyrann Mathieu intercepted to put the game away.

“I gave it strong consideration,” Fangio said of his fourth-down call, “but you know, at some point in the game, we’ve got to get a stop, and we weren’t able to. We held them to a field goal but that made it a touchdown game and burned off some of the time there, so in retrospect, should have probably gone for it.”

Lock returned after missing last week’s game against New Orleans, along with the rest of Denver’s quarterbacks, because of COVID-19 positive tests and contact tracing. The local boy finished with 151 yards passing and two touchdown throws to Tim Patrick, while Melvin Gordon ran for 131 yards on just 15 carries.

“There’s no feel-good losses in this league,” Lock said. “We did play them closer than we have before, but I mean, what does that get you? Nothing. It gets you an upset locker room. It gets you a sad flight home.”

Made even more stinging is how close the Broncos came to springing the upset.

The Chiefs didn’t take the lead until Butker’s fourth field goal early in the second half, then answered the second&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1335786854453399561?s=20" target="_blank">Lock-to-Patrick touchdown connection</a>&nbsp;with a TD of their own. With a defender hanging on his jersey, Mahomes tossed a 15-yard&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1335789269764296705?s=20" target="_blank">scoring pass to Kelce</a>, ending their streak of seven straight red-zone trips without a touchdown.

The Chiefs defense made sure that the only touchdown they scored in the game would be enough.

“It’s such a blessing to have that guy back there slinging it around,” Kelce said, “because he takes the ultimate pride in his craft and playing the game, and you know you can always count on him.”

The Chiefs learned early Sunday that they had returned seven positive tests, but it wound up being a computer glitch and the game was allowed to proceed. “When they talk to you early in the morning like that, you’re not sure what is real and what is not real,” Reid said. “They said, ‘Let’s give us an hour to work through this thing and see if we can get it right,’ and it all came back where we were OK.”

Broncos defensive end Shelby Harris, who had COVID-19 along with his pregnant wife and three children, returned for the first time in about a month. But after describing his “weird headaches” and “nerve pain” in detail Friday, Harris was stunned by the lax approach taken by some Chiefs fans to wearing masks and social distancing. “They really don’t care about COVID in Missouri,” he said in a pregame tweet, followed by: “Full tents of people tailgating makes no sense.”

Broncos: C Graham Glasgow left with a foot injury in the first quarter. CB Essang Bassey, pressed into a bigger role after Bryce Callahan (foot) landed on IR this week, left with a knee injury on the first drive of the second half.

&nbsp;MANHATTAN, Kan. – Fort Hays State Men's Basketball will travel to Manhattan, Kansas on Tuesday (Dec. 8) for an exhibition contest with Kansas State University. The game will be a regular season contest for the Wildcats. Tipoff is set for 7 pm at Bramlage Coliseum. The game will air on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.<br><br>There are no single-game tickets available for the contest to the general public, as K-State Athletics is limited to 15 percent capacity at Bramlage Coliseum, which will be filled by season-ticket holders.<br><br>For Kansas State, this game replaces a road contest with Butler in the Big 12/Big East Battle that was originally scheduled for Saturday, December 11, but has since been canceled due to COVID-19 related issues with Butler.<br><br>The Tigers last played Kansas State in an exhibition contest to open the 2017-18 season. That contest was an exhibition for both teams, which Kansas State claimed 79-56. The Tigers and Wildcats have played three exhibitions at Kansas State since 2011-12, all claimed by the Wildcats.<br><br>The last time the Tigers met an NCAA Division I school after the beginning of their regular season and still claimed it as exhibition was during the 2016-17 season when they took on the University of Colorado in Boulder.<br><br>The last time Kansas State claimed a contest toward their regular season record against Fort Hays State was in 2009-10. The game was also a regular season contest for FHSU. The Tigers had a lead midway into the second half in that game before K-State ultimately prevailed by seven points. 🏀 FHSU men to play at Kansas State Tuesday

HAYS - The Hays High boys basketball team used a big run to start the third quarter to take control and beat TMP-Marian to win the 38th annual Gerald Mitchell Hays City Shootout Saturday at the Hays High Gym.

Hays used 13-0 first half run and 16-0 second half run on their way to a 70-42 win over the TMP Monarchs in the championship of the Hays City Shootout.&nbsp;

TMP led 11-8 five minutes into the game before Hays started their first big run. Points from five different players built a 23 -11 lead one minute into the second quarter for the Indians. Hays though would only score five more points over the next seven minutes. TMP used the time to go on a 14-5 run that ended with a tip-in for the Monarchs that just beat the second quarter buzzer clipping the Hays lead to 28-25.

The Indians opened the third quarter with their second big run. Jace Linenberger got the 16-0 run started that lasted just over four minutes and resulted in a 44-25 Hays advantage.

The game would never be closer than thirteen rest of the way on the way to a 70-42 Hays victory. It is the first Hays City Shootout title for the Indians since 2016.&nbsp;

Jace Linenberger paced the Indians with a career high 26. Dalyn Schwartz scored 13 and Carson Kieffer added 10. Lucas Lang scored 24 for TMP on eight three pointers.

Hays improves to 3-0 and will be off until December 15th when they travel to Hoisington. TMP finishes second in the tournament and is 2-1 on the season.

A cold shooting third quarter cost Hays High allowed the TMP Monarchs to pull away for a 44-31 win on the final day of the Hays City Shootout. The Indians were outscored 13-5 in the quarter after trailing by just one at halftime.

The Indians led for most of the first quarter and by three at 6-3 at one point and after the first quarter 10-8 when Aleyia Ruder beat the first quarter buzzer. TMP was able to take their first lead in the second quarter before the score was tied at 13, 15, and 17.&nbsp;

The Indians though could not get the offense to continue through the second half. The Indians made two of eleven shots in the third quarter and just one of four free throws while be outscored by eight.

Hays falls to 0-3 on the year and will next play December 15th in Hoisington.

Lucas Lang scored 24 for TMP on eight three pointers.</p><p>Hays improves to 3-0 and will be off until December 15th when they travel to Hoisington. TMP finishes second in the tournament and is 2-1 on the season.</p><p><b>GIRLS<br>TMP 44 - Hays 31</b></p><p>A cold shooting third quarter cost Hays High allowed the TMP Monarchs to pull away for a 44-31 win on the final day of the Hays City Shootout. The Indians were outscored 13-5 in the quarter after trailing by just one at halftime.</p><p>The Indians led for most of the first quarter and by three at 6-3 at one point and after the first quarter 10-8 when Aleyia Ruder beat the first quarter buzzer. 🏀 Hays boys  beat TMP to win Hays City Shootout; girls fall for third game

HAYS – The TMP girls picked up a win Saturday over the Hays
High Indians while the Monarch boys came up short in their matchup as both
teams wrap up the Hays City Shootout with a second-place finish.

The TMP Lady Monarchs used a 13-5 run to open the second
half on their way to a 44-31 win over the Indians Saturday at the Hays City
Shootout.

Both teams offense struggled to start the game and Hays built
an early 5-3 lead but TMP was able to tie the game at six and then again at
eight before Hays’ Aleyia Ruder got a layup as the first quarter ended that put
Hays up 11-8 through one quarter.

Into the second quarter TMP’s Sophia Balthazor hit her first
of a pair of three-pointers in the game tying the game at 11.

There would be three more ties in the second quarter before TMP’s
Meagan Hamel jumper put TMP up 19-17. The lead 19-18 at the halftime break.

In the third quarter, with TMP leading 22-18, the Monarchs
Kyleigh Allen scored five straight as TMP built their lead to seven at 27-20.
The extended the lead to 32-22 on a Hamel three. That was all part of a 13-5
run by the Monarchs to open the second half as they built the lead to 32-23 to
end the third quarter.

After trailing by 10 in that third quarter Hays was able to
trim the deficit back to nine briefly to open the fourth quarter but TMP scored
six straight and led 42-27 and would close out the game winning 44-31.

TMP was led by the nine points each of Emilee Lane and Kyleigh
Allen. Hamel and Kassidi Yost each added eight.

The Monarchs finished the Hays City Shootout 2-1 and
finished as the runner-up.

The Hays High Indians used runs over 15-0 and 16-0 on their
way to a70-42 win over the TMP-Marian Monarchs in the final game of the Hays City
Shootout Saturday at Hays High School.

TMP opened the game with back-to-back three pointers from
Jackson Schulte and Lucas Lang, the first of his eight three’s, to build an
early 6-4 lead but Hays High came back to take an 8-6 lead.

Lang added his second first quarter three-pointer to put TMP
back up one at 9-8. They extended their lead to 11-8 before Hays High strung
together a 13-0 run to end the first quarter to lead 21-11.

They added two more to open the second quarter to cap off
their 15-0 run to lead 23-11.

TMP was able to trim the lead back to three at 26-23 after
Lucas Lang hit three more three pointers in the quarter.

With Hays High up 28-23 Bryce Seib tipped in his own miss,
to beat the buzzer, at the end of the first-half as Hays High led 28-25 at the
break.

In the second half Hays High scored 16 straight to open the
third quarter taking a 44-23 lead.

Lang added two more three’s to end the quarter before Hays
took a 52-35 lead into the fourth quarter. 

In the fourth quarter Lang added his eighth three pointer
for a team-high 24 points as Hays claimed the 70-42 win.

Lang’s 24 points was a new career-high. Jackson Schulte
finished nine.

TMP finished the tournament 2-1 and in second place.

The Monarchs will travel to Hill City next Friday to open
Mid-Continent League play.

Jenkins, who sat out last season after transferring from South Dakota State, hit 7 of 13 from 3-point range. Caleb Grill added 12 points for UNLV (1-4). The Runnin’ Rebels had lost their first four games of a season for the first time since 1994-95.

Antonio Gordon hit a 3-pointer and then made a layup before Mike McGuirl hit two free throws to cap a 7-1 spurt that trimmed Kansas State’s deficit to 56-53 with 5:55 to play. But Jenkins hit back-to-back 3s to spark a 12-2 run, including a jumper by Jenkins that gave UNLV a 68-55 lead with 13 seconds left.

McGuirl led the Wildcats (1-3) with 17 points. Nijel Pack added nine points, seven assists and five rebounds.

The Runnin’ Rebels shot 52% from the field, 44% from behind the arc, and never trailed.

The Tigers start the season 0-3 for the first time since
1922 with the three losses by a combined eight points.

UNK (1-2) used a 22-4 first half run to build an 18-point
lead midway through the first half. They pushed that lead to 21 with a little over 11 minutes to play in the second half when Vitztum
scored all 19 points of a 19-7 Tiger run to cut the deficit to nine.

FHSU got within seven but the Lopers got a couple of
key three-pointers from Matt Brien during a 12-5 run which pushed the lead back
to 14 with just under three minutes left.

Quinten Rock knocked down three 3-pointers in a 19-8
FHSU run that cut the lead with three with three seconds to play.

Vitztum went 8-for-9 from the floor in the second half. He also pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds for his second straight double-double.


The Lopers were led by Jake Walker who scored 20, 15 of them

🏀 Tigers comeback bid falls short against Lopers

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Tyon Grant-Foster drove for the go-ahead basket with just over a minute to go, then swatted away Sam Griesel’s layup with 10 seconds left, helping seventh-ranked Kansas escape with a 65-61 victory over North Dakota State on Saturday.

Jalen Wilson had 14 points and Ochai Agbaji added 13, including a free throw in the final seconds that helped the Jayhawks (4-1) finish off a 7-0 run to end the game and avoid their first loss to an unranked team since the 2019 Big 12 Tournament.

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Texas Tech linebacker Colin Schooler says the “next man up” approach in this COVID-19 college football season applies to coaches as much as players.

The Red Raiders overcame four turnovers to prove it.

Receiver Myles Price took a reverse 70 yards for Texas Tech’s only touchdown and Jonathan Garibay kicked a go-ahead field goal in the fourth quarter of a 16-13 victory over winless Kansas on Saturday with coach Matt Wells watching from home after testing positive for the virus.

Defensive coordinator Keith Patterson filled in, and his defense stopped Kansas (0-9, 0-8 Big 12) on fourth down four times, including twice in the final five minutes to preserve the victory.

“We preached that the whole entire season is that you never know what’s going to happen,” Schooler said. “It could be a player, it could be a coach, it could be whatever. When somebody does go down, it’s got to be the next man up. This whole week, or toward the end of this week, was a primary example of us doing that.”

Wells tested positive Thursday but wasn’t officially ruled out until testing positive again Friday. He was in touch with Patterson as late as an hour before the game going over scenarios.

“It wasn’t really weird,” said Patterson, who was interim coach for Pittsburgh in a bowl game against SMU during the 2011 season. “You never know what situations and scenarios are going to come up. And not a lot of time to school yourself in 48 hours. We had great leadership, great coaches on our staff. I just leaned heavily on those guys.”

Xavier White had 135 yards rushing and 28 receiving for Texas Tech (4-6, 3-6), and Garibay kicked three field goals. The decisive kick went through from 36 yards with 5:36 remaining despite Caleb Sampson getting a hand on it.

Kansas had two opportunities to tie it in the final five-plus minutes — for a chance to win in Lubbock for the first time since 2001 — but managed just eight plays in two drives.

The first stop came from defensive back Eric Monroe, who stuffed Daniel Hishaw Jr. on fourth-and-1. After Garibay missed a 45-yarder that would have pushed the lead to six, Kansas went four-and-out again, with Miles Kendrick throwing incomplete on fourth-and-4 from the Kansas 34.

“I still like how our kids played today,” Kansas coach Les Miles said. “This defensive group played awfully hard.”

Alan Bowman was 15 of 26 for Texas Tech while Kendrick completed 17 of 29 as the pair combined for just 219 yards passing.

Hishaw had 87 yards rushing, including a 12-yarder for Kansas’ only TD to pull the Jayhawks even at 13 early in the fourth quarter.

Kansas scored 10 points off Texas Tech turnovers after entering with just 10 points in that category all season.

Kansas: The losing streak of true Big 12 road games will live for another season, now up to 54 games after five losses this season. This was the first time the outcome was in doubt in the closing minutes. KU’s average margin of defeat in the other four Big 12 road games was 37 points. The Jayhawks’ last road win was Oct. 4, 2008, 35-33 at Iowa State.

Texas Tech: The Red Raiders haven’t made much progress in Wells’ second season, but they will take note of a 4-2 record at home as they go into 2021 looking to stop a five-year run of losing seasons.

There was a scary moment early in the game when Kansas freshman linebacker Taiwan Berryhill, who made his first career start, had a collision with a teammate when trying to make a tackle.

Berryhill, among the nation-leading 26 freshmen to play for Kansas going into this game, grabbed his head with both hands after taking a shot. His head collided with safety Kenny Logan Jr. when both were trying to tackle White.

Both defenders stayed down on the field for several minutes, though Logan was helped to the sideline before Berryhill was immobilized and taken off the field on a cart.

A school spokesman said Berryhill was cleared after precautionary tests at a hospital, returned to the stadium and was on the sideline in street clothes. Berryhill flew home with the team. While not offering any specifics, Miles said the injury appeared to be temporary rather than longer term.

Kansas is home next Saturday against Texas in the makeup of their postponed Nov. 21 game.

Texas Tech goes into another uncertain offseason, though there is still an outside chance of getting one of the Big 12′s bowl spots since there is no minimum win requirement this season.

 🏀WATCH: Hays High vs TMP

MANHATTAN, Kansas (AP) — Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson combined for 311 rushing yards and six touchdowns and Texas beat Kansas State 69-31 on Saturday afternoon.

Coming into the game, Johnson had two touchdowns all season and Robinson hadn’t scored in his career. Robinson scored on runs of 12, 30 and 75 yards Saturday.

“I knew it would take time to learn to get a feel for the game,” Robinson said. “It feels good to play so free and comfortable out there. The college game is a different speed and such good athletic ability it took some time to progress.”

The Longhorns (6-3, 5-3 Big 12) scored seven times on the ground, three apiece by Johnson and Robinson and one from Jor Whittington. It’s the most rushing touchdowns allowed in a game in school history by the Wildcats.

“There’s a thousand bad habits that a freshman has to fix and he has,” Texas coach Tom Herman said. “We found a way to have fun and to play to the joy of football and for each other. I was really proud to see that today.”

Sam Ehlinger was 20 of 27 for 274 yards and two touchdowns. Kansas State’s Will Howard went 16 of 27 for 174 yards and a pair of touchdowns and two picks. Howard threw an interception for the ninth time this season and for the fifth straight game.

Deuce Vaughn continued his impressive season breaking the school record for rushing yards by a freshman (517). In the finale, he scored twice and gained 125 yards.

“I feel like I had a lot of fun this year,” Vaughn said. “There are things I can do better and I need to attack this offseason and come back next season ready to go.”

It’s the most points Texas has ever scored against Kansas State and the most points they’ve scored in a Big 12 game since 1996. The Wildcats hadn’t allowed 69 points in 13 years.

“Credit to Texas because they were ready to play today,” Kansas State coach Chris Klieman said. “We couldn’t stop them and ran out of players. We need to be better tackling up front, but their running backs played well.”

Texas scored 66 points in the first three quarters before calling off the dogs and sitting most of their starters the final 15 minutes.

The Longhorns secured their fourth straight winning season under head coach Tom Herman amid him being on the hot seat in Austin.

“I’m excited about that and for our players to send them out with another winning season,” Herman said. “We leaned on the older guys to tell the younger guys to ignore the noise. It was very much business as usual around here this week.”

With rumors running rampant about the future of the leadership at Texas, there was one way Herman kept focused on just Kansas State this week.

“I don’t listen to it,” Herman said. “When you don’t get on the Internet and stay on Yahoo and Words with Friends you stay above the fray a little bit.”

Herman remained undefeated against Kansas State in his tenure, but a 1-4 record versus rival Oklahoma is a glaring blemish that isn’t overlooked by the Longhorn faithful.

Kansas State lost their last five games after starting the season 4-1. It’s just the second time since 2010 that the Wildcats lost its home finale.

Texas running backs were too much for the Wildcats averaging 10 yards per attempt.

The Longhorns travel to Kansas next Saturday.

Day two of the round robin Hays City Shootout opened with TMP and Hugoton take the floor in the first two games. #6-3A Hugoton girls beat TMP 51-33 to move to 2-0 on the year. TMP dropped to 1-1. The TMP boys moved to 2-0 with a 62-59 win over Hugoton. Hugoton fell to 0-2.

Hays High was outscored 19-3 in the fourth quarter after heading into the final frame tied at 27 with Life Prep Academy on Friday night. The Indians turned the ball over on five of their first six possessions of in the game and fell behind 9-0.&nbsp;

Once Hays found their offense they went on a 16-2 run deep into the second quarter and led 23-19 at halftime. The Indians advantage reached a peak of seven at 23-16. However Hays would not score for the next 9:10. Life Prep during that timeframe went on a 11-0 run of their own to grab a four point lead before the fourth quarter.

The two teams combined for 75 turnovers. Hays ended the game with 39 and Life Prep 36. Hays falls to 0-2 on the year. Life Prep is now 2-1.

Hays led wire to wire in their second game of the year moving to 2-0 at the Hays City Shootout beating Life Prep Academy 71-39. The Indians used runs of 15-3, 13-0 and 17-0 in their victory.&nbsp;

The game was never closer than 6-5 just over midway through the first quarter. It was at that point that the Indians started the 15-3 run for a 21-8 advantage. The game was a single digit affair only one more time at 23-15.&nbsp;

Hays boys win; girls lose in Day 2 of Shootout

HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs boys picked up their second
straight win over the season while the Monarch girls suffered their first loss
of the year Friday afternoon on the second day of the Hays City Shootout.

The TMP-Marian Monarch girls opened the game with a Megan Hamel
three pointer to take a 3-0 lead. But Hugoton answered that with a 15-2 run to
build a 15-5 first quarter lead.

TMP was able to cut the deficit to five points with a Kyleigh
Allen three-point play and a Jaci VonLintel field goal bringing TMP back 15-10
but a three-pointer by Hugoton gave them an eight-point lead after the first
quarter.

The Monarchs were able to cut the deficit back to six points
two different times to open the second quarter only to see the Eagles go on a
six nothing run to build a 12-point lead at 26-14. Hugoton led by 15 at the break.

TMP was able to close within 11 in the third quarter but couldn’t
get any closer in the second half as Hugoton went on to the 51-33 win.

Meagan Hamel scored a team-high 10 points and Emilee Lane
added eight-points and seven rebounds.

The TMP boys rallied from down 12 points in the third quarter
on their way to a 62-59 win over Hugoton Friday.

TMP jumped out to an early 7-4 lead with Jackson Schulte
scored five of the first seven points. Hugoton answered the TMP run with a 11-3
first-quarter run of their own as they built a 15-10 lead. The Eagles led 17-15
after one quarter.

A pair of Bryce Seib free throws tied the game at 17 to open
the second quarter but Hugoton had another answer. This time they put together
a 12-4 run to lead 29-21.

The Monarchs was able to close within one with four straight
from Schulte and a three-point play from Lucas Lang.

But with the Hugoton lead down to just one at 29-28 the Eagles
strung together a 10-0 lead to end the third quarter and led 39-28 through
three quarters.

They extended the run to 13-2 to open the fourth quarter and
took their largest lead of the game at 12 at 42-30.

TMP trimmed to lead to single digits late in the third quarter
and a Schulte three just before the buzzer capped off a 9-2 run closing the
score to 47-45 Hugoton with one quarter to play.

In the final frame the Monarchs took control, they built a
55-50 lead midway through the fourth thanks to a 13-3 run.

&nbsp;Hugoton erased the
deficit and took the lead on a three-pointer with under a minute to play but
Jace Wentling broke free for a layup putting TMP up 60-59 with 28 second
remaining.

Gavin Unrein added a pair of free throws with 7.9 second to
go giving TMP a 62-59 lead. All eight of Unrein’s points came in the fourth
quarter.
