KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes threw for 166 yards and a touchdown, Kansas City relentlessly blitzed the Packers' Jordan Love in his highly anticipated first start in place of Aaron Rodgers, and the Chiefs held off Green Bay 13-7 on Sunday.

Rodgers tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week,&nbsp;<a href="https://pro32.ap.org/article/explainer-rodgers-and-how-nfls-covid-19-protocols-work">forcing the reigning MVP</a>&nbsp;to miss his first game since the 2017 season.&nbsp;<a href="https://pro32.ap.org/article/packers-jordan-love-prepared-step-absent-rodgers">Love responded&nbsp;</a>by going 19 of 34 for 190 yards with a touchdown and an interception, both of them coming in the fourth quarter when the Packers were trying to rally from a 13-0 deficit against the defending AFC champs.

Love's touchdown pass to Allen Lazard with 4:49 left gave Green Bay a chance. But Mahomes threw a dart to Tyreek Hill on third-and-10 near midfield with less than two minutes left for a first down that allowed the Chiefs to run out the clock.

Travis Kelce had five catches for 68 yards and a touchdown for the Chiefs (5-4), who have won their three of their last four games despite a problematic offense. They finished with just 237 yards against Green Bay.

The Packers (7-2) only managed 301 yards off offense as their seven-game winning streak came to an end. Green Bay also fell to 6-12-1 without Rodgers since 2008.

More than any quarterback or offense, the difference in the first half was Green Bay's special teams.

Mason Crosby yanked a 40-yard field-goal attempt in the first quarter. He had a 37-yarder blocked in the second period. And when the Packers punted later in the half, one of their downfield blockers accidentally touched the ball with his toe and the Chiefs recovered, eventually turning it into a chip-shot field-goal.

The Packers nearly did the same thing when Amari Rodgers muffed another punt early in the second half.

The officials weren't a whole lot better. They whiffed on the first-half punt — it took the Chiefs challenging the call for it to be reversed — and referee Shawn Smith had to stop the game numerous times to adjust the clock.

It probably would have ruined any offensive flow had the Chiefs and Packers not done it on their own.

The Chiefs, whose high-flying offense has turned heads on the way to three straight AFC title games, went three-and-out on their first two drives of the second half. The Packers also went three-and-out to start the second half, then watched as Love got sacked by Tyrann Mathieu on third down to force a punt on their next possession.

Green Bay finally put together a solid drive early in the fourth quarter, when Love completed seven straight passes. But after back-to-back incompletions, Love threw a pass toward Davante Adams — who was back from his own positive COVID-19 test last week — that was picked off by L'Jarius Sneed near the Kansas City goal line.

The Packers scored on their next drive, but the Chiefs made sure it happened too late to matter.

There was plenty of support for Rodgers in the Arrowhead Stadium crowd. Not only were No. 12 jerseys plentiful, one fan held a sign that read, “We Stand With Rodgers.” The embattled quarterback&nbsp;<a href="https://pro32.ap.org/article/health-care-company-ends-relationship-aaron-rodgers">has been sharply criticized</a>&nbsp;for claiming to be “immunized' against COVID-19 despite never getting vaccinated. Rodgers also&nbsp;<a href="https://pro32.ap.org/article/packers-prepare-chiefs-amid-rodgers-covid-19-questions">drew the ire of many this week</a>&nbsp;for a free-wheeling interview in which he claimed to be “in the crosshairs of the woke mob right now.”

Packers: CB Eric Stokes left in the first quarter with a knee injury. DL Kenny Clark had to be helped off with a sore back in the second quarter, and LG Jon Runyan joined him in the locker room with an illness a few minutes later.

Chiefs: RT Lucas Niang hurt his ribs in the first half. He was already starting in place of Mike Remmers (knee), forcing third-stringer Andrew Wylie to finish the game.

Green Bay returns home to face Seattle on Sunday.

However, the Jennies found the golden goal just over two minutes into overtime. The Jennies were very aggressive on offense in the first half with 16 shots compared to one by the Tigers. However, the Jennies were only able to net one goal with about two minutes remaining in the first half. The Jennies added another goal just a few minutes into the second half. The Tigers would not go away without a fight as they put together a furious rally late to shock the Jennies. TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Fort Hays State rolled to a 64-6 win at Northeastern State on Saturday. The Tigers produced 619 yards of total offense and nearly posted a shutout, but the RiverHawks scored on the final play of the game as time expired. FHSU moved to 5-5 with the win, while NSU fell to 2-8.

The Tigers struggled to get an offensive rhythm on their first two possessions of the game, but they found their stride after that building a 27-0 lead by halftime.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6186">Adrian Soto</a>&nbsp;opened the scoring for the Tigers with a one-yard touchdown plunge in the first quarter, then the Tigers scored three times in the second quarter all on touchdown passes by&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6146">Chance Fuller</a>. He found&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6174">Manny Ramsey</a>&nbsp;for a 7-yard score,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6130">Hunter Budke</a>&nbsp;for a 3-yard score, and Budke again for a 14-yard score.

Four Tigers found themselves in the championship match at their respective weights and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6594">Marty Verhaeghe</a>&nbsp;was able to come out a champion in the Elite 184 bracket. Verhaeghe won his first two matches by decision 6-1 and 4-1 before reaching the semifinals where his opponent was medically unable to compete. HAYS, Kan. - Fort Hays State fell 1-0 to Southern Nazarene on Saturday in a battle for the GAC/MIAA regular season title. The Crimson Storm found their winning goal in the 78th minute on a strike from Daniel Trojman near the top of the box. The GAC/MIAA has now seen three different regular season champions over the last three seasons with FHSU in 2019, Rogers State in the brief 2020-21 spring season, and now Southern Nazarene in 2021. Neither team could find the net early on, but the Crimson Storm scored late with the wind at their backs and the Tigers could not muster much of a counter the final 12 minutes. With the win, Southern Nazarene moved to 12-6 overall (9-3 GAC). FHSU fell to 11-5-2 (8-3-1 GAC) and finished second in the conference regular season standings.

The Tigers were aggressive on offense in the first half, recording eight shots compared to four by the Crimson Storm. They had their scoring chances, but could never put any of the golden opportunities in the net.

With the result, Southern Nazarene will now host the four-team GAC/MIAA Championship Tournament next week in Bethany, Oklahoma on Friday and Sunday (Nov. 12 and 14). Match times will be announced in the coming days. Currently sitting on the good side of the 10-team bubble in the latest NCAA Regional Rankings, the Tigers may need to win the GAC/MIAA Tournament next week to earn a selection to the NCAA Tournament. ⚽ Tiger men come up short against SNU in regular season finale

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas State climbed quickly into the Top 25 on the back of three straight wins to start the season, then the Wildcats plummeted just as quickly from the poll after three straight losses to open Big 12 play.

Deuce Vaughn had a career-high 162 yards rushing and three touchdowns, Skylar Thompson shredded Kansas through the air before a cheap shot knocked him out of the game in the fourth quarter, and the Wildcats cruised to a 35-10 victory over the Jayhawks on Saturday that wasn't as close as the final score.

“We're bowl-eligible, we have won three games in a row. It tells you an awful lot about the character and resolve of our guys the way we started off in conference,” Kansas State coach Chris Klieman said. “There was always continued belief in that locker room, continued belief in our leaders that we could turn it around.”

Thompson was 19 of 24 for 244 yards and a touchdown before he was hit by the Jayhawks' Gavin Potter out of bounds along the Kansas State sideline. Thompson remained on the ground for several minutes before finally getting up.

The personal foul put the ball just outside the goal line, and Vaughn plowed in for his final rushing TD of the day.

“Some of it's bang-bang stuff,” Klieman said, “but (Thompson) is fine. He's ready to come back next week and get after it.”

Vaughn also caught five passes for 60 yards, and Malik Knowles had 94 yards receiving and a touchdown, as the Wildcats (6-3, 3-3 Big 12) beat their rival for the eighth consecutive time at Memorial Stadium and 13th straight overall.

Devin Neal had 62 yards rushing for the Jayhawks (1-8, 0-6), who were down to third-string quarterback Jalon Daniels by the third quarter. Jason Bean was banged up early but was ineffective anyway, and backup Miles Kendrick was carted off after getting hurt on his second play of the game.

Daniels finished 13 of 19 for 105 yards and a score.

“Jason was shaken up, tried to go back. Miles was hurt. I think those injuries and having them carted off the field took a little bit of wind out of us,” Kansas coach Lance Leipold said. “I don't want to take away anything from Coach Klieman and his program, I think we just lost a little intensity.”

The Jayhawks trailed 21-3 by halftime and it could have been much worse.

On offense, they watched running back Torry Locklin get carted off the field before Bean and Kendrick got hurt, and they saw normally sure-footed Jacob Borcila miss one of his two field-goal attempts.

On defense, the Jayhawks allowed the Wildcats to gain a staggering 10.7 yards with every snap.

Kansas State's opening touchdown drive was highlighted by Vaughn's 30-yard run, which set up his own 1-yard plunge a few minutes later. The next drive took all of two plays and ended when Thompson hit Knowles with a 68-yard strike. And the Wildcats' third first-half TD came after two big passes to Vaughn set up Ben Sinnott's short scoring run.

The momentum sure didn't change over halftime.

And when the Jayhawks finally got on the board with Daniels' TD pass to Kwamie Lassiter II, the Wildcats answered with a 75-yard touchdown march. It ended two plays after Thompson was knocked into the sideline with Vaughn's TD run.

“It's tough. Two weeks in a row something like that happened, where I'm trying to get out of bounds and trying to protect myself," Thompson said. “It just knocked the wind out of me. I'm fine. It's just unfortunate."

Kansas State has won three straight on the heels of a three-game losing streak. Thompson's return from an injury sustained against Southern Illinois has been a big reason why. He threw for 300 yards against Texas Tech and was solid in last week's win over TCU. Vaughn is a legitimate star, but he's much less potent without Thompson directing the show.

Kansas is still no closer to closing the gap on its biggest rival. The Wildcats were simply faster, stronger and more athletic, winning at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and making key plays in the secondary.

'REEL' FOOTBALL: Images from Indians' playoff win

HOISINGTON – The TMP-Marian Monarchs used a quick start and
solid special teams to knock of the fourth-rank Hoisington Cardinals Friday night
and advance to the 2A state quarterfinals with a 36-27 win.

TMP (8-2) could not have asked for a better state Friday
night.

They opened the game with football and strung together a nine-play
drive that covered 66-yard drive that was capped off by a three-yard Bryce Seib
touchdown run.

After forcing a Hoisington (8-2) three-and-out the TMP offense
came right&nbsp; back on the field and drove down
the field and capped off a six-play 58-yard drive with an 18-yard Griffin
Schumacher touchdown run on fourth down to give TMP a 13-0 lead with a little
more than three minutes and 20 seconds left in the first quarter.

Hoisington was able to get their offense going and cut the
TMP lead to 13-6 early in the second quarter on a one-yard Legend Robinson
touchdown run.

It appeared at that point that Hoisington had all the momentum
but TMP’s Kade Harris swung the game right back into TMP’s favorite with a
79-yard kickoff return for a touchdown giving TMP a 20-6 lead. 

After forcing another Hoisington punt TMP was able to find
the endzone one more time before the end of the first half with just over five
minutes to play when Harris scored his first of two rushing touchdowns to put
TMP up 26-6 heading into halftime.

Out of the halftime break Hoisington put together a seven-play
drive that was capped off by Robinson’s second of three touchdowns and they
added a 15-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Wyatt Wikum to Leyton Haxton
made it a one score game at 26-20 with just under a minute left in the third
quarter.

The Monarchs opened the fourth quarter with a touchdown
drive of their own to go back on top 33-20 when Harris broke free for a 32-yard
touchdown.

Robinson scored his final touchdown with 3:44 left in the
fourth quarter to finish off a 12-play drive making it 33-27 TMP.

After a 52-yard kickoff return from Harris that would set up
a 37-yard field goal from Jace Wentling giving TMP the 36-27 lead with 2:39 to
play.

A Mark Rack interception on Hoisington’s final drive sealed
the game for TMP as they hold on for the 36-27 win.

The TMP win over Hoisington snapped an eight-game losing
streak at the hands of the Cardinals and it ended Hoisington’s nine-game home
playoff win streak and their 24-game home win streak.

Harris led TMP with 146-yards on the ground. Seib added 63 rushing
yards.

Robinson scored three-rushing touchdowns in the losing
effort.

TMP will host Kingman in the 2A quarterfinals next week.

The Hays High Indians played a tenth football in a single season for just the ninth time in school history as the Indians visited Andover on Friday. The defenses reigned supreme in the first half. Each team forced a turnover on downs in the others territory. Hays went three and out, but the Trojans missed a 25 yard field goal to score the first points.

The teams again traded turnover on downs. Following Andover's second one, Hays went 10 plays and 57 yards to score the first points of the game with 1:37 left in the half. The Indians converted on a fourth down and third down on the drive. Jaren Kanak scored from three yards out.&nbsp;

Andover went to the air for their final drive of the half, driving to the 27 yard line before Gavin Meyers recorded a 14 yard sack. The following play the Trojans ran to the 20 yard line where Iden Balman forced a fumble that was recovered by Dalton Dale.

The Indian defense stayed stout in the second half, forcing Andover to punt on their first three possessions. Hays took advantage of the second and third punt by scoring on a pair of Kanak runs. Kanak first scored on a 35 yard run with 4:37 left in the third quarter for a 12-0 advantage. His third and final score came on a 24 yard run and an 18-0 lead with 2:56 left on the fourth quarter clock.

The lone Andover touchdown came on a 57 yard pass with 2:56 left in the game for the final difference of 18-6.

Jaren Kanak rushed for 190 yards on 26 carries. Roy Moroni rushed for 71 yards. The Hays defense recorded five sacks, three by Gavin Meyers.

Hays improves to 8-2. Andover ends their season at 7-3.

It is just the third time in program history Hays will play 11 games in a season. 1993 and 1984 were the other two seasons.

Hays will play at Maize next week. The Eagles beat Bishop Carroll 28-21. Also in 5A West, Kapaun beat Maize South 37-21 and Wichita Northwest ran around Salina Central 66-21 for a matchup next week of the Crusaders and Grizzlies.

Junior Carly Lang was named to the WAC First Team. Seniors Aleyia Ruder and Ella Voth landed on the the second team.

Along with Lang on the first team was Conference Player of the Year, Bree Horyna of Liberal and her teammate Rylie Hallman. Mataya Clark (Dodge City), Piper Harris (Garden City), and Valerie Luna (Great Bend) rounded out the first team.

With this win, the Tigers put themselves in position to play for the GAC regular season title on Saturday against Southern Nazarene.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State landed three players on the 2021 All-MIAA Women's Soccer Team, released on Thursday.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6216">Emily Hutchings</a>&nbsp;received second-team honors, while&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6220">Reilly Madden</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6231">Deonna Wellbrock</a>&nbsp;each garnered third-team honors. The all-conference team is selected by head coaches from the MIAA. Hutchings earned a second-team selection as a midfielder. She has a team-leading five assists for the season, which ranks eighth in the MIAA. She also has two goals to her credit and is tied for second on the team in points generated for the season with nine. She provided the game-winning goal in the 2-0 win over Washburn last week, which helped the Tigers clinch a spot in the MIAA Tournament. Madden received a third-team selection at defender. She has been a model of endurance for the Tigers on the back row this season, playing every minute of 16 out of 18 contests. She has 1,647 minutes logged this season of a possible 1,694. Five playoff games on tap Friday night on Eagle Radio stations

LAWRENCE -&nbsp;The Kansas Jayhawks kicked off the 2021-22 season by hosting Emporia State for an exhibition game on Wednesday, beating the Hornets, 86-60 behind four players in double figures, led by Ochai Agbaji’s 17 points.

Along with Agbaji, David McCormack (16 points), Remy Martin (15 points) and Christian Braun (10 points) scored in double figures, while Martin led the team in assists with four and McCormack led the way with eight rebounds.

As a unit, the Jayhawks 47.1 percent (33-of-70) from the floor in the game and 40.9 percent (9-of-22) from beyond the arc. Kansas connected on all of its free throw attempts (11-of-11) in the game, including 6-of-6 from McCormack.

Kansas scored 42 points in the paint and got 37 points from the bench in the game. The Jayhawks forced the Hornets into 14 turnovers, which Kansas turned into 20 points.

Kansas controlled the pace throughout the first half, behind a team-leading 14 points from Ochai Agbaji on 5-of-7 from the field and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Paired with Agbaji, Remy Martin made his KU debut by scoring 13 points in the first half on 6-of-8 from the field.

Kansas led at the break, 51-25, shooting 61.8 percent (21-of-34) from the floor on 12 assists. The Jayhawks closed out the first half on a 16-3 run over the last 5:06.

🏀 Jayhawks outpace Hornets in exhibition Wednesday

TOPEKA – The Kansas Volleyball Association has announced their 2021 State All Tournament Teams selected during the Kansas State High School Activities Association’s State Championships held on October 29 and 30. 

A State All Tournament Team was selected for each classification and each is comprised of 12 players.

Victoria’s Kassi Weber was named to the 1A Division I team. It’s the second
time Weber’s been on the all state tournament team. Weber and the Knights finished fourth last weekend in Dodge City. 

Wheatland-Grinnell’s Livia
Schultz receives the same honor in 1A Division II.
