DODGE
CITY - Hays High boys track and field team continued their Western Athletic
Conference dominance Thursday. The Indians won their fifth-straight league
title, edging Garden City by a point and a half at Memorial Stadium. The Hays girls
won their first title since 2005 after finishing seven points ahead of second
place Garden City.

Kip Keeley was named the WAC Coach of the Year for both the boys and girls.

The
girls won five events. Katie Linenberger the high jump (5-6), Lynsi Kanas the
long jump (17-5.75), Rylen Harrington the javelin (124-11), Zoe Winter the shot
put (38-10) and Aralen Maupin the 400 (1:00.28).

The
girls finished second in six events. Caira Augustine the high jump (5-0), Kenlee
Vehige the pole vault (9-9), Kamryn McCall the long jump (16-2.50) and 200
where she set a new school record (25.65). Lyndi Zimmerman finished second in
the 100 (12.25) and was a part of the 4x100 relay along with Moriah Hellam,
Lynsi Kanak and Kamryn McCall that also finished second (50.05).

Brooke
Bieker placed third in the triple jump (34-10.50) as did McCall in the 100
(12.41) and Zimmerman in the 200 (25.81).

The
boys won four events. Kamani Jones the high jump (6-0), Gus Corsair the discus
(145-3), Dalton Mayers the javelin (183-9) and Bryce Steffan the 300 hurdles
(40.66).

Jones
finished second in the triple jump (43-10.75) as did Wyatt Kirkpatrick in the
javelin (164-11), Jaxson Chartier the shot put (51-2.75) and Steffan in the 110
hurdles (15.58).

Third
place finishers include Jones in the long jump (20-2.50) and 200 (22.43),
Parker McGuire the discus (140.3), Caleb Englert the shot put (49-5.25), Brogan
Albers the 110 hurdles (15.68), Taevian Maupin-Dabney the 400 (51.50). Maupin-Dabney
was also a part of the third place 4x400 relay along with Steffan, Chase Zadina
and Albers (3:32.37).

⚾ Indians wrap up WAC play with blowout win

HAYS
– The Hays High softball team wrapped up their regular season with a sweep of
Manhattan. The Indians cruised to an 11-0 win in game one then held on for a
6-4 victory in the second game.

The
Indians finished the regular season 16-10. They will find out on Saturday who,
when and where they play in next week’s regional.

Game 1: Hays 11, Manhattan 0 (5 innings)
Avery Solida had two
hits including a three-run homer to lead the Hays Indians to the game one win.

HHS
scored four runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. They added a
run in the third then six in the fifth to end the game early.

Brynlee
Rupp got the Indians on the board with an RBI triple then scored on a passed
ball in the first. Solida drove in her first run of the day with a single. Lanie
Becker stole home to push the lead to 4-0.

Becker
hit an inside the park home run in the third to put HHS up 5-0.

Rupp
opened the decisive fifth with a single then scored on Riley Dreher’s double. Following
a walk, Solida hit a three-run blast to center to put Hays up 9-0. Alyse Zimmerman
ended the game with a two-run single to center.

Jaylee
Summers scattered three hits with three walks and three strikeouts and picked
up the complete game victory.

Game 2: Hays 6, Manhattan 4
Hays built a 6-0 lead after five then held on for the win.

Alyse
Zimmerman, Brynlee Rupp and Riley Dreher all singled to open the bottom of the
first. Dreher’s base hit scored two to give the Indians the early lead. Dreher
later score on an error to give the Indians a 3-0 lead.

Each
team would get only one baserunner over the next three innings. 

Hays
broke through for three more runs in the fifth. With two outs, Lanie Becker
singled which scored Zimmerman who opened the frame with a double. Following an

scored four in the top of the sixth. The first run came on a passed ball. The
Indians threw a runner out at home on a bunt but Josi Alesana hit a bases

🥎 HHS wraps up regular season with sweep of Manhattan

HILL CITY – The Hoxie girls and Smith Center boys won the Mid-Continent League track and field meet hosted by Hill City High School Thursday. The Indians scored 111 points, 10.5 ahead of second place Ellis. Norton finished third (71). The Redmen boys scored 110 points, six better than Norton. Phillipsburg placed third (67.5).

The TMP-Marian girls finished sixth and the boys 11th. Piper Simpson won the girls pole vault, setting a new school record at 10-6. Paige Schlyer finished second in the discus (122-3). Jackson Gillespie led the TMP boys with a second-place finish in the 100 (11.23) and third in the 200 (23.12).

Ellis’ Evelyn Merriman won the 100 (12.31), 200 (25.82) and 400 (1:02.95). Natalie North won the discus (141-5) and shot put (40-8.75). Avery Boydston won the 800 (2:27.37) and finished second in the 1600 (5:20.15). Isabella Eck brought home gold in the high jump (5-4). The Railers 4x100 relay team placed third.

The Railer boys were paced by Aron Bencze won the discus (166-3) and finished second in the shot put (48-3).

Plainville’s Eric Mackey won the high jump (5-10), Davyn Willeford finished second in the long jump (42-4) and Tucker Rudman placed third in the shot put (48-2). Brilynn Trumpp led the Cardinal girls with a second place finish in the 800 (2:29.52) and was third in the 3200 (12:27.38). Alayah Lair finished third in the 100 hurdles (17.09). Caydance Carter placed third in the shot put (38-8).

three shots. Hoxie finished third, four off the pace. TMP-Marian finished sixth
with a 376, Trego was ninth (394) and Ellis 10th (411).

Hill
City’s AJ Deges shot a 6-over-par 77 and won the individual title. Easton Fink
of Oakley and Eli Jones of Norton tied for second after rounds of 79. Plainville’s
Noah Brewster shot an 82 and tied for fifth. Teammate Easton Ditter tied for
seventh with an 84.

Heuer
Brungardt led TMP-Marian with a 92 and tied for 20th along with Jaren Frickey of
Ellis.

⛳ Oakley boys win MCL Tournament

HAYS
– The Hays High girls swim team finished runner-up at the WAC meet held at Fort
Hays State’s Tiger Aquatic Center Thursday.

Senior
Izabel Schmidt broke her seventh school record with a first-place finish in the
100 yard breaststroke (1:11.13). Schmidt was also a part of the winning 200
free relay along with Jaylen Hughes, Brekyn Wahlmeier and Lucy Tippy. Hughes
finished first in the 100 backstroke.

Schmidt
was voted the WAC Swimmer of the Year and Tyler Stein the WAC Coach of the
Year.

🏊‍♀️ HHS girls runner-up at WAC, Schmidt Swimmer of the Year

HAYS, Kan. - Fort Hays State head volleyball coach Jessica Wood-Atkins has announced the 2025 Tiger volleyball signing class. The group of five incoming Tigers includes one outside hitter, one right-side hitter, one middle hitter, one setter and one defensive specialist. The class includes athletes from three different states, including two newcomers from Kansas and Illinois and one from Colorado. Four will be true freshmen in the fall, while one is a junior transfer.

The 2025 recruiting class includes Peyton Bergschneider, Lauren Clawson, Kaitlyn Cure, Annie Eaton and Kara Feist. This incoming class joins a Tiger squad that advanced to the MIAA Championship Tournament last season.

Peyton Bergschneider OH | 5-10 | Springfield, Ill. Lincoln Land CC | Pleasant Plains HS

Peyton Bergschneider joins the Tigers after two successful seasons at Lincoln Land Community College in her hometown of Springfield, Ill. Bergschneider was a two-time first team NJCAA All-Region 24 selection in addition to a pair of All-MWAC recognitions, including first team honors as a sophomore in 2024. She was also the Mid-West Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year in 2023. The outside hitter averaged 3.41 kills, 3.03 digs, 0.33 blocks and 0.44 service aces per set while swinging at a .213 rate in 68 matches as a Logger, leading the team in kills both seasons while leading the team in digs as a freshman. She totaled 821 kills in 241 sets, adding 731 digs, 80 blocks (23 solo), 105 service aces and 53 assists.

Bergschneider was a 2023 graduate of Pleasant Plains High School in Pleasant Plains, Ill. where she earned three varsity letters in volleyball. She was voted Small School Player of the Year as a senior in 2022 in addition to earning All-State honorable mention status and Sangamon County first team all-conference recognition. Bergschneider was chosen as a Channel 1450 All-Area Player of the Week in addition to earning Illinois State Scholar honors and Scholar Athlete of the Week recognition for her work in the classroom.

Lauren Clawson MH | 6-0 | Monument, Colo. Palmer Ridge HS

Lauren Clawson has signed with the Tigers after graduating from Palmer Ridge High School in her hometown of Monument, Colo. Clawson was an all-conference selection as a senior and helped the Bears win the state championship as a junior in 2023. She helped the team to three consecutive regional titles from 2022-24, reaching the state tournament all three years. The middle hitter earned Athlete of the Week recognition at her school as a senior was awarded the team spirit award as a sophomore and junior.

Clawson earned an academic letter each year throughout her high school tenure, earning first team All-Academic honors as a junior and senior. She was nominated for the Rotary Champions Scholarship for her work in the classroom.

Kaitlyn Cure DS | 5-9 | Andover, Kan. Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic HS

Kaitlyn Cure will be a freshman in the fall at Fort Hays State after completing her high school career at Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School in Wichita, Kan. The Andover, Kan. native was a four-time all-league selection in her time as a Crusader, picking up first team honors as a junior and senior after receiving honorable mention status as a freshman and sophomore. The defensive specialist helped Kapaun claim a sub-state championship as a senior, ultimately placing fourth at the 5A state tournament in the first trip to state for the school in more than a decade.

Cure was a two-time Wichita Eagle All-Metro pick, receiving second team status as a senior and third team honors as a junior. She was selected by her teammates to be a team captain both as a junior and senior. She totaled 778 digs, 531 kills, 211 aces and 61 blocks in her high school career, averaging 3.3 digs per set as a senior.

Annie Eaton S | 5-8 | Quincy, Ill. Quincy Notre Dame HS

Annie Eaton heads to Hays after a successful career at Quincy Notre Dame High School in her hometown of Quincy, Ill. She was a four-year starter at setter, racking up a school-record 3,082 assists which ranks fifth most in Illinois High School Association history. She was a first team All-State selection and was named Michio Chicago/illprepvb.com Player of the Year in 2024 after racking up a school-record 884 assists as a senior. Eaton helped the Raiders to three Illinois Class 2A quarterfinal appearances, winning 134 matches and posting a winning percentage of 88.7 percent in her four seasons. She added 845 digs, 238 aces and 363 kills in her high-school career.

Eaton also played soccer as a freshman at QND, helping the Raiders to the IHSA Class 2A state championship as a starter at forward.

Kara Feist RS | 5-11 | Great Bend, Kan. Great Bend HS

Kara Feist has signed with Fort Hays State after four years as a multi-sport standout at Great Bend High School in her hometown of Great Bend, Kan. A 5-11 right-side hitter, Feist was a two-time All-WAC selection, picking up first team honors as a junior in 2023 and second team status as a senior in 2024. She helped the Panthers to a school-record 35 wins as a senior, guiding the team to a sub-state championship and a berth into the KSHSAA Class 5A State Tournament. Feist helped Great Bend win back-to-back Western Athletic Conference titles, the first volleyball conference championships for the school in two decades. She compiled 214 kills, 75 blocks and a .282 hitting percentage as a senior.

A four-year letterwinner in volleyball, Feist also earned three varsity letters in track and field and two in basketball. HOUSTON (AP) — Jeremy Peña had a season-high four hits, capped by a tiebreaking RBI single in the eighth inning, to give the Houston Astros a 4-3 win over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night.

The Astros trailed by 1 when Zach Dezenzo singled with one out in the eighth and was lifted for pinch-runner Chas McCormick. Mauricio Dubón’s second double of the game dropped into the left field corner and scored McCormick, tying the game and chasing Michael Lorenzen (3-4).

Carlos Estévez took over and Peña lined his third pitch into left field, sending Dubón home and putting the Astros on top.

Josh Hader walked one in a scoreless ninth for his 10th save after Bryan King (1-0) threw a scoreless eighth for the win.

Isaac Paredes homered for a second straight game for the Astros after his shot in the ninth inning Tuesday night lifted them to the 2-1 win.

Maikel Garcia homered and doubled as the Royals built a 3-1 lead.

Dubón’s first double came with one out in the sixth and he scored on a double by Peña to get the Astros within 3-2.

Houston’s Colton Gordon allowed seven hits and three runs in 4 1/3 innings in his major league debut.

Lorenzen yielded seven hits and four runs in 7 1/3 innings for the loss.

Garcia put the Royals up 1-0 with his towering home run to start the second inning. There were two outs and two on in the inning when Jonathan India then smacked an RBI double off the left field wall to make it 2-0.

The Royals had runners at first and second with two outs in the third when Jake Meyers robbed Hunter Renfroe of extra bases with a nifty catch on the track in center.

Paredes homered in the fourth before Garcia’s RBI double that bounced off second base and into the outfield pushed the lead to 3-1.

Dubón’s RBI double in the eighth that tied it and chased Lorenzen.

Peña has been great in 16 games since moving to the leadoff spot and has five doubles, three homers, 15 RBIs and 28 hits.

The National Football League announced the schedule for the 2025 season on Wednesday. The Chiefs are currently slated to play eight standalone games, including seven primetime contests, with GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium hosting four. It also features the Chiefs in contests on both Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Kansas City will kick off the 2025 season internationally against the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil, on Friday, Sept. 5 in the NFL's first-ever live NFL game broadcast on YouTube. The contest marks the club's first international contest since playing in Frankfurt, Germany, in 2023, as well as the first AFC West matchup of the season as the Chiefs continue their quest for a 10th-consecutive AFC West title. This year's regular season schedule features 10 games vs. opponents that made the playoffs in 2024. The combined 2024 record of Kansas City's 2025 home and away opponents is 151-138-0 (.522).

In Week 2, the Chiefs will host the defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles for a Super Bowl LIX rematch in their home opener on Sept. 14. On Sept. 21, the club will hit the road to play the New York Giants on the first of three NBC Sunday Night Football broadcasts before returning home to play the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 28.

The Chiefs then travel to play the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday, Oct. 6 in the club's first of two Monday Night Football showdowns. The Chiefs return to Kansas City to host three-straight home games, including two primetime matchups. Weeks 6-8 feature games vs. the Detroit Lions on Sunday night, Oct. 12, the Las Vegas Raiders on Oct. 19, and then the Washington Commanders on Monday, Oct. 27. Just four days later on Thursday, Nov. 27, the Chiefs will play the Cowboys in Dallas on Thanksgiving Day, marking the 11th time the club will play on Thanksgiving Day and first since Kansas City hosted Denver at Arrowhead Stadium on Nov. 23, 2006. That matchup marked the first-ever live game broadcast on NFL Network. The Chiefs have played the Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day once before on Nov. 23, 1995. 🏈 Chiefs announce 2025 game schedule

NORMAN, Okla. - Fort Hays State's Cooper Scheck has been named to the 2024-25 NCAA Division II PING All-Region team, as announced by the GCAA on Wednesday.

Scheck was one of just 12 individuals to earn the distinction from the Central Region. The MIAA dominated the list this season, with nine of the 12 honorees hailing from an MIAA institution. He is the first Tiger in recorded history to receive this honor.

The Dodge City, Kan. native put together a strong junior season, averaging 72.15 across 12 events and 33 rounds of competition. Scheck earned six top 10 finishes, including one victory at the Newman Invitational in October.

Scheck competed as an individual at the Central/Midwest Regional Championships in St. Joseph, Mo. last week, becoming the first Tiger to qualify for NCAA postseason competition in a decade. He finished in a tie for 22nd out of 108 golfers at regionals at 4-over for the week (72-75-70). He also earned All-MIAA honors for his performance this season, becoming just the second player in team history to earn multiple All-MIAA recognitions.

Scheck turned in 11 rounds at-or-under par, including the lowest round in recorded team history of 7-under 64 at the Hillcat Classic in March. He posted eight rounds in the 60s on the year, including five rounds of 67 or lower.

 </figure>FHSU AthleticsNORMAN, Okla. - Fort Hays State's Cooper Scheck has been named to the 2024-25 NCAA Division II PING All-Region team, as announced by the GCAA on Wednesday.Scheck was one of just 12 individuals to earn the distinction from the Central Region. The MIAA dominated the list this season, with nine of the 12 honorees hailing from an MIAA institution. He is the first Tiger in recorded history to receive this honor.The Dodge City, Kan. native put together a strong junior season, averaging 72.15 across 12 events and 33 rounds of competition. Scheck earned six top 10 finishes, including one victory at the Newman Invitational in October.Scheck competed as an individual at the Central/Midwest Regional Championships in St. Joseph, Mo. last week, becoming the first Tiger to qualify for NCAA postseason competition in a decade. He finished in a tie for 22nd out of 108 golfers at regionals at 4-over for the week (72-75-70). He also earned All-MIAA honors for his performance this season, becoming just the second player in team history to earn multiple All-MIAA recognitions.Scheck turned in 11 rounds at-or-under par, including the lowest round in recorded team history of 7-under 64 at the Hillcat Classic in March. HOUSTON (AP) — Isaac Paredes hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the ninth inning to lift the Houston Astros to a 2-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night.

The game was tied at 1 after a home run by Jeremy Peña in the sixth inning when Paredes led off the bottom of the ninth against John Schreiber (1-2). He sent his second pitch to left-center field for his fifth homer this season, giving Houston the win after Kansas City took the series opener Monday.

Both teams got strong outings from their starters. Houston’s Framber Valdez allowed six hits and a run with seven strikeouts in eight innings. Kris Bubic yielded six hits and a run and tied a career high with nine strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.

Bryan Abreu (1-1) struck out one in a scoreless ninth for the win.

Hunter Renfroe doubled off the wall in left-center field with one out in the eighth. Valdez plunked Jonathan India on the foot with two outs, but he induced a groundout by Bobby Witt Jr. to end his night.

Maikel Garcia walked to open the fifth before a single by Vinnie Pasquantino sent him to third. The Royals took a 1-0 lead when Freddy Fermin singled on a ground ball to right field that scored Garcia.

Peña’s home run to left field tied it with no outs in the sixth. Jose Altuve followed with a double on a grounder down the third base line, but Bubic retired the next three batters, with two strikeouts, to leave him stranded.

Jake Meyers singled to start Houston’s seventh, but was out at second when Cam Smith grounded into a force out. Bubic was replaced by Lucas Erceg and he picked off Smith at first before striking out Brendan Rodgers to end the inning.

Peña has three homers, four doubles, 24 hits and 13 RBIs in 15 games since moving to the leadoff spot.

Kansas City RHP Michael Lorenzen (3-3, 3.57 ERA) opposes LHP Colton Gordon in the series finale Wednesday night. Gordon will be recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land to make his major league debut.

HAYS
- TMP-Marian closed out their regular season with a pair of home wins Tuesday.
The Monarchs swept Garden City 3-1 and 18-3.

They
wrapped up the regular season with a 21-5 record and will host a 2-1A Regional
beginning Friday. The Monarchs will play the second game of the day around 5
p.m. against the winner between Oberlin and Ell-Saline.

Garden
City has lost eight of their last 10 and dropped to 6-14 on the season.

Game 1: TMP-Marian 3, Garden City 1
 Adler Brown go the Monarchs on the board with an RBI single in the bottom of
the third. Connor Breit and Isaac Purinton both added RBI singles in the fifth
to push the lead to 3-0.

Garden
City scored their lone run on a Jakobe Rathbun triple in the seventh.

Grant
Nehls allowed no runs on three hits with four strikeouts and three walks over 6
2/3 innings and picked up the win. Isaac Purinton gave up a walk then the triple

added their sixth run on a J Seib single.

After
Garden City scored another run in the second to make it a 6-3 game, TMP responded
with six more in the bottom of the inning. Ty Schmeidler singled home the first
run and would later score on a wild pitch. Grant Nehls also scored on a wild
pitch, Breit and Caden Dinkel added a bases loaded walks and Ian Nehls scored
on an error.

The
Monarchs added three runs in the third and fourth. Schmeidler and Breit both had
RBI triples, Austin Gilbert drove in a run with a sac fly. In the fourth, the
Monarchs scored on a Grant Nehls triple, a Carson Liles sac fly then ended the
game when Schmeidler scored on a wild pitch.

LIBERAL
– Cooper Johnson shot an even-par 70 and finished in second place to pace the
Hays High boys golfers at the Liberal Invitional Tuesday at the Willow Tree
Golf Course.

Dodge
City’s AJ Peters won the individual title with a 2-under-par 70. Hays High’s
Caleb Thompson shot a 5-over-par 77 and finished sixth.

Dodge
City won the team title with a 307, Liberal was second with a 312 and Hays
third with a 320.

with an 8-4 loss at Garden City Tuesday. It’s the Buffaloes sixth-straight win
and it gave them the series win over HHS two games to one.

Buffs (17-5, 8-4 WAC) scored six in the fourth to break open a 2-2 game. Piper
Harris hit a two-run homer to break the tie. They added two more runs on a
fielder’s choice then scored two more on a single to center.

The
Indians (14-10, 7-5 WAC) had tied the game in the top of the inning on a two-out
single from Brynlee Brous followed by a double from Lanie Becker.

Riley
Dreher would add a two-run homer in the fifth.

🥎 HHS drops WAC finale at Garden City

2025 NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday-Saturday, May 22-24, 2025 Pueblo, Colo. • CSUP Thunderbowl

The Fort Hays State track and field teams will send nine student-athletes to compete in eight events at the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships. This year's indoor meet is being held Thursday (May 22) till Saturday (May 24) at the CSUP Thunderbowl in Pueblo, Colo.

Six members of the men's team will take on the decathlon, 4x100m relay, pole vault and 200m, while three members of the women's team will aim for national success in the pole vault, discus and 10,000m.

Annabeth Baalmann, a junior pole vaulter, will look for her second All-American honor after finishing eighth indoors last season. She broke her own school record multiple times this year, with a top clearance of 14-0.5, the third-best mark in the country. Baalmann also became the first woman in school history to surpass the four-meter mark, doing it both indoors and outdoors, further cementing her place in program history.

Emily Diercks, a junior distance runner, is set to compete in the 10,000m after breaking the school record last week at the Franson Last Chance. She finished in 34:46.53 to claim a spot in nationals. Diercks has already broken three school records in the indoor and outdoor seasons, including the mile and 3,000m run during the indoor season.

Freshman standout Emma Slade will compete in the women's discus throw after she threw for 160-2 feet earlier this outdoor season, she had a top five mark for a good chunk of the season and now ranks 15th in Division II.

Junior sprinter Toby Wahlmeier is set to compete in the 200m dash, this will be his first trip to nationals after finishing this outdoor season with multiple provisional marks. He blazed to a 20.74 second 200m finish at the Alex Francis Classic a few weeks back and the mark held up to 19th in DII.

Nolan Churchman will compete in three events, the decathlon, long jump and 4x100m relay. Churchman is a seven-time All-American, including two All-American finishes in the outdoor decathlon. The senior ranks seventh in the country this season in the decathlon with a season-best total of 7,138 points. Churchman also has the 14th best long jump in DII, jumping 24-7 feet at the Jo meaker Classic earlier this season.

Freshman vaulter Josiah Ball vaulted his way into nationals with a qualifying mark of 16-7.5 feet this past weekend at the Ward Haylett Invitational. This will be his first trip to nationals.

Avrey Albright, Hayden Albright, Churchman and Wahlmeier are set to compete in the 4x100m relay race. Freshman Drew Tolar will join the team as the fifth runner, providing valuable depth alongside the core group of four competitors.

The Tigers have delivered an impressive outdoor season, highlighted by three school records and 33 NCAA provisional marks. The Tiger men rank 41st in the latest USTFCCCA MIAA rankings posted today (May 13) while the women rank 46th in DII.

Churchman is a seven-time All-American, including two All-American finishes in the outdoor decathlon. The senior ranks seventh in the country this season in the decathlon with a season-best total of 7,138 points. 👟 FHSU sending nine to outdoor nationals

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– The eyes of the college football world will be on Kansas State as the Wildcats kick off the 2025 college football season with the Aer Lingus College Football Classic against Iowa State kicking off at 11 a.m. (CT), 5 p.m. (GMT) and be televised by ESPN, the network announced Tuesday during the Disney Ad Sales Upfront.

This is the first time since 2010 against UCLA that K-State will open its season on ESPN. This is just the second time in the 129-year history of the program that the Wildcats will play abroad (1992 in Tokyo, Japan vs. Nebraska).

The Wildcats and Cyclones are meeting on a neutral-site field for just the third time in the 108-game series. Kansas State took both games of a two-game series at Arrowhead Stadium in 2009 and 2010.

Game times for Kansas State's non-conference games in 2025 will be announced in the coming weeks.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Rose’s permanent ban was lifted eight months&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/pete-rose-obituary-reds-e0f3dfa057fc46629447e04b6540e4c8">after his death</a>&nbsp;and came a day before the Cincinnati Reds will honor baseball’s career hits leader with Pete Rose Night.

Manfred announced Tuesday that he was changing the league's policy on permanent ineligibility, saying bans would expire at death. Several others will also have their status changed by the ruling, including all members of the 1919 Chicago Black Sox, former Philadelphia Phillies president Williams D. Cox and former New York Giants outfielder Benny Kauff.

Under the Hall of Fame’s current rules, the earliest Rose or Jackson could be inducted would be in 2028.

Rose agreed to a permanent ban on Aug. 23, 1989, following an investigation commissioned by Major League Baseball concluded Rose repeatedly bet on the Reds as a player and manager of the team from 1985-87, a violation of a long-standing MLB rule.

Lenkov and Rose’s daughter Fawn had met with Manfred on Dec. 17.Rose’s supporters have included U.S. President Donald Trump, who has said he intends to pardon Rose posthumously.&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/pete-rose-reinstatement-00a2532eeb4f1aa3dd81530260de44b8">Manfred discussed Rose with Trump</a>&nbsp;when the pair met in April, but he hasn’t disclosed specifics of their conversation.In a letter to Lenkov, Manfred wrote, “In my view, a determination must be made regarding how the phrase ‘permanently ineligible’ should be interpreted in light of the purposes and policies behind Rule 21, which are to: (1) protect the game from individuals who pose a risk to the integrity of the sport by prohibiting the participation of such individuals; and (2) create a deterrent effect that reduces the likelihood of future violations by others."In my view, once an individual has passed away, the purposes of Rule 21 have been served. Obviously, a person no longer with us cannot represent a threat to the integrity of the game. Moreover, it is hard to conceive of a penalty that has more deterrent effect than one that lasts a lifetime with no reprieve. Therefore, I have concluded that permanent ineligibility ends upon the passing of the disciplined individual, and Mr. Rose will be removed from the permanently ineligible list.”A 17-time All-Star during a playing career from 1963-86, Rose holds record for hits (4,256), games (3,562), at-bats (14,053), plate appearances (15,890) and singles (3,215). He was the 1963 NL Rookie of the Year, 1973 MVP and 1975 World Series MVP. A three-time NL batting champion, he broke the prior hits record of 4,191 set by Ty Cobb from 1905-28.“Pete is one of the greatest players in baseball history, and Reds Country will continue to celebrate him as we always have," Reds owner Bob Castellini said. “We are especially happy for the Rose family to receive this news and what this decision could mean for them and all of Pete’s fans.”Jackson was a .356 career hitter who was among the eight Black Sox banned for throwing the 1919 World Series. He died in 1951, but he remains one of baseball's most recognizable names in part for his depiction by Ray Liotta in the 1989 movie Field of Dreams.<h2>What else needs to happen for Rose or Jackson to reach the Hall of Fame?</h2>Under a rule adopted by the Hall’s board of directors in 1991, anyone on the permanently ineligible list can’t be&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/rose-hall-of-fame-d3da8832097f2717590096d68600fee4">considered for election</a>&nbsp;to the Hall. Jackson was twice considered on ballots by the Baseball Writers' Association of America, but received just 0.9% in 1936 and 1% of a nominating vote in 1940.Rose’s reinstatement occurred too late for him to be considered for the BBWAA ballot. If not on the permanently banned list, Rose would have been eligible on the ballots each from 1992 through 2006. He was written in on 41 votes in 1992 and on 243 of 7,232 ballots (3.4%) over the 15 years, votes that were not counted.Hall of Fame Chairman of the Board Jane Forbes Clark said in a statement that players affected by Manfred's ruling Tuesday would be considered.“The National Baseball Hall of Fame has always maintained that anyone removed from Baseball’s permanently ineligible list will become eligible for Hall of Fame consideration,” she said. “Major League Baseball’s decision to remove deceased individuals from the permanently ineligible list will allow for the Hall of Fame candidacy of such individuals to now be considered."Without the ban, both players are eligible for the Hall’s Classic Baseball Era, which next meets to consider players in December 2027 and considers those whose greatest contributions to the sport were before 1980.A 10-person historical overview committee selects the eight ballot candidates with the approval of the Hall’s board and the ballot is considered by 16 members at the winter meetings, with a 75% or higher vote needed. The committee members include Hall of Fame members, team executives and media/historians.Among the players in the 2028 class eligible for the BBWAA ballot are Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina.<h2>Did Trump help get Rose reinstated?</h2>Trump has said he would pardon Rose, but it’s not clear what a presidential pardon for Rose would entail.
