MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — After the final seconds ticked away on No. 22 Kansas State's comprehensive 48-0 win over ninth-ranked Oklahoma State on Saturday, thousands of purple-clad fans didn't storm the field so much as they wandered onto it in celebration.

Which was altogether fitting, considering the way the Wildcats methodically trounced the Cowboys.

Backup quarterback Will Howard threw for 296 yards and four touchdowns, Deuce Vaughn ran for 158 yards and another score, and a late interception by the Wildcats sealed Oklahoma State's first shutout loss since 2009 while allowing Kansas State to remain a game behind TCU in the race for berths in the Big 12 championship game.

“This is as good a win as I've ever been a part of,” Kansas State coach Chris Klieman said. “Offense fed off defense. Defense fed off the offense. We need to play complementary football and we were really good in all three phases.”

Kansas State scored TDs on its first two possessions, had 495 yards of total offense and held Oklahoma State, which had been the nation’s No. 3 scoring offense at 44.7 points per game, to just 217 yards — less than half its season average.

Kade Warner caught five passes for 97 yards and two scores, and Malik Knowles had eight catches for 113 yards. The late interception gave the Wildcats (6-2, 4-1) their first shutout of the Cowboys since a 10-0 win on Nov. 21, 1992.

“We’re confident," Howard said. "We feel good right now. And we just played a really good game against a really good team and beat them 48-0. And the nice thing is, we haven’t played our best game, and that's still in front of us.”

Spencer Sanders was just 13 of 26 for 147 yards with an interception for Oklahoma State (6-2, 3-2) before landing hard on his shoulder midway through the fourth quarter. The star quarterback did not return to the game.

The Cowboys’ most lopsided loss in nearly 18 seasons under coach Mike Gundy was also their first shutout loss to anyone since Nov. 28, 2009, when they fell 27-0 to Oklahoma in the Bedlam game.

“We got our butt kicked,” Gundy said. “I'm not taking anything away from Kansas State. They're a good team and they played really well. I don't know if they could have played a better game than they did today.”

The Wildcats have had some strangely easy wins over Oklahoma State. The last time a Gundy team was held to 12 points or fewer was in a 31-12 loss in Manhattan in 2018, and the last time the Cowboys trailed any game by at least 38 points was during a 48-14 loss to the Wildcats in 2014.

The biggest question surrounding Kansas State was the health of its own quarterback, Adrian Martinez, who played just four snaps in last week's loss to TCU because of a knee injury. And while he warmed up with the starters Saturday, it was the veteran backup Howard who headed out to the field on the opening possession of the game.

Howard proceeded to torture the banged-up Cowboys defense for the next 30 minutes.

He capped the opening drive by hitting Warner on fourth-and-10 for a 38-yard TD reception. Then, after Vaughn ripped off a 62-yard touchdown run, Howard threw a 31-yard third-down scoring strike to Phillip Brooks to make it 21-0.

“Adrian didn't feel like he was 100 percent confident in what he was going to be able to do,” Klieman said, “and I appreciate that because he's a team player. We knew we would be good either way.”

Howard's fourth TD throw — also to Warner and also on third down — was a short screen that turned into a 41-yard strike. And the final touchdown of the half, after Oklahoma State stuffed Kansas State twice at the goal line, went to Vaughn with just 11 seconds left and made it 35-0 at halftime.

Meanwhile, the prolific Cowboys offense couldn't answer any of the scores.

Their opening drive ended with a fourth-down incompletion. The next ended in a punt, and the next when Oklahoma State wide receiver Brennan Presley fumbled the ball away on the first play. The Cowboys punted twice more in the half around an interception, when Sanders overthrew everyone but the Kansas State defense.

The only question in the second half was whether the Wildcats would keep the Cowboys off the scoreboard.

“It takes all of us," Warner said, “to have an outcome like that today.”

Oklahoma State had won eight of its past 10 against ranked opponents, and the losses were by five last year to Baylor and three in double-overtime to TCU this season. But the Cowboys never put up a fight against Kansas State, even though the winner would have the inside track on a possible rematch with the Horned Frogs in the Big 12 title game.

Kansas State celebrated its first home game in 28 days by ending a three-game skid against the Cowboys in confidence-building fashion. It dominated on both sides of the ball, and on special teams, nearly got a punt return touchdown.

Oklahoma State heads down Interstate 70 to face Kansas next Saturday.

Kansas State welcomes Texas to Bill Snyder Family Stadium the same day.

EMPORIA – Fort Hays State fell behind early and lost 42-14 to
Emporia State Saturday afternoon at Jones Field/Welch Stadium. The Tigers are
now 2-7 on the season while the Hornets improve to 7-2.

ESU scored touchdowns on their first three possessions and
built a 21-0 lead with 4:42 to play in the first quarter.

The Tigers countered with a 60-yard touchdown pass from Jack
Dawson to tight end Cale Cormaney.

The Hornets scored on their next two possession and led 35-7
at halftime.

The Tiger defense got a stop on the Hornets first possession
of the third quarter but a punt went off the back of a Tiger giving Emporia
State the ball at the FHSU 26. They scored one play later to push the score to
42-7.

Fort Hays State’s Manny Ramsey caught a 13-yard pass from
Dawson midway through

Manny Ramsey hauled in six passes for 66 yards and one
touchdown, moving up to second in all-time receptions at FHSU (171) and third
in career receiving touchdowns (22). Adrian Soto rushed for 67 yards.

Hornet quarterback Braden Gleason completed 30 of 

FHSU plays their final home game next Saturday against Northeastern
State at 1:00 p.m. The RiverHawks lost 21-17 at home to Washburn.

 as he hobbles around second base after muscling a home run off Dennis 
Eckersley, the Oakland A’s dominant closer. The ground ball hit by New 
York Mets outfielder Mookie Wilson <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpyJjecJnuI">skipping through the legs</a> of Red Sox first baseman Bill Buckner.

Some of the most dramatic images in World Series history are 
ingrained in the minds of baseball fans thanks to television coverage. 
This year’s World Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and Houston 
Astros will surely bring another timeless highlight to the <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2021/11/03/2021-world-series-ratings-braves-astros-game-6-draws-14point3-million.html">12 million or so viewers</a> expected to watch.

Yet the first 43 World Series weren’t televised at all. It wasn’t 
until the 1947 series between the New York Yankees and Brooklyn Dodgers –
 75 years ago – that fans could watch their favorite players duke it out
 on screen. 

As I detail in my book “<a href="https://www.nebraskapress.unl.edu/bison-original/9780803248250/">Center Field Shot: A History of Baseball on Television</a>,”
 which I co-authored with Robert Bellamy, the telecasts became a 
sensation. They drew millions of Americans to a new medium at a time 
when there were no national networks, only a handful of stations and 
somewhere between 50,000 and 60,000 TVs in the entire country.

In August 1947, the television industry anticipated a possible 
all-New York World Series: The Yankees had a huge lead in the American 
League, while the Dodgers also held a substantial one in the National 
League.  

If the two teams met in October, New York’s three television stations – run by NBC ABC, and the now-extinct <a href="https://www.britannica.com/topic/DuMont-Television-Network">DuMont</a> – decided they wanted to cover the games.

But the rights to televise the games were held by the <a href="https://www.britannica.com/topic/Mutual-Broadcasting-System">Mutual Broadcasting System</a>,
 a radio network that had no television division. Thus, Mutual would 
need to farm out the coverage to one or more New York stations.

Although no national television network existed at the time, NBC, 
DuMont and CBS did have the means to link stations on the Eastern 
Seaboard through a combination of coaxial cable, microwave and 
over-the-air broadcast transmissions, expanding the potential audience 
for the World Series. The Series would air on eight stations in four 
markets: New York City, Philadelphia, Washington and Schenectady, New 
York.

While the Yankees-Dodgers series materialized, the televising of the Series almost didn’t. 

The predictable stumbling block was money. Baseball commissioner <a href="https://baseballhall.org/hall-of-famers/chandler-happy">Albert B. “Happy” Chandler</a>
 wanted $100,000 for the television rights to the Series. Gillette, the 
sponsor of the radio coverage on the Mutual Broadcasting System, balked 
at the steep price given television’s limited penetration – only 50,000 
to 60,000 U.S. households owned TVs at the time. The radio rights to 
reach the nation’s 29 million homes with radios had cost Mutual only 
$175,000.

Initial negotiations produced an offer of $60,000 from two sponsors: Gillette and the Ford Motor Company. New York’s <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Liebmann">Liebmann Breweries</a>
 offered to meet Chandler’s $100,000 demand, but the commissioner 
refused because he did not want beer ads when youngsters would be 
prominent members of the audience.

Even before a coverage deal had been finalized, bars, restaurants, 
television dealers, department stores, automobile dealerships and movie 
theaters started advertising the event, urging customers to come by to 
watch the World Series on television. And in the days and weeks leading 
up to the Fall Classic, the demand for television sets spiked. 

The excitement pressured Chandler and the sponsors to reach a compromise.   

Finally, on Sept. 26, just four days before Game 1 at Yankee Stadium, Chandler, Gillette and Ford <a href="https://worldradiohistory.com/Archive-BC/BC-1947/1947-10-06-BC.pdf">agreed to $65,000 for the rights to televise the World Series</a>.
 Production costs added another $35,000 to the sponsors’ bill. Mutual, 
Gillette and Ford also agreed to allow all three New York TV stations 
and those connected to them to broadcast the game, providing the widest 
possible exposure.

Initial industry estimates had the Series reaching between 600,000 
and 700,000 viewers, many of them located in the bars and restaurants 
where a substantial number of the nation’s first television receivers 
were located.  

But that forecast ended up being conservative. Although home viewing for the seven games was substantial – 450,000 in a <a href="https://worldradiohistory.com/Archive-All-Music/Billboard/40s/1947/BB-1947-10-18.pdf">Hooper rating survey commissioned by Billboard</a>
 – the out-of-home viewing numbers were extraordinary: Another 3.5 
million were estimated to have viewed the World Series in public 
locales.

Hooper’s survey found that an average of 82 customers showed up at 
each of these public locations to watch at least some of the World 
Series. Variety reported that bar owners saw a 500% increase in patrons 
during the Series, with some offering reservations to their regulars for
 a choice location near the TV set.

What viewers from those choice seats saw was primitive by today’s 
standards. The screen was usually small – 12 diagonal inches or less. 
The low-definition images were black and white and came from just a few 
cameras. No extreme close-ups were possible. There was no instant 
replay, so fans had to pay attention or the moment was lost. 

But for the first time, they were seeing the World Series live, and for free.

The audience liked what they saw. <a href="https://worldradiohistory.com/Archive-All-Music/Billboard/40s/1947/BB-1947-10-11.pdf">Billboard</a>,
 quoting The Newark Evening News, reported that TV “audiences hung on 
every turn of the video cameras and the ‘oohs and aahs’ at a slide or 
strikeout were something radio broadcasters would give their eye teeth 
to hear.”

It didn’t hurt that <a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/postseason/1947_WS.shtml">the 1947 World Series</a> ended up being so dramatic. The Yankees prevailed in seven games, but Brooklyn owned the two greatest moments.

The Washington broadcasts even reached the White House, where 
President Harry S. Truman, his staff and the D.C. press corps watched 
some of the contests. The <a href="https://worldradiohistory.com/Archive-Televiser/Televiser-1947-09-10.pdf">industry magazine Televiser</a>
 reported an enthusiastic response from the White House viewers: “If TV 
can do as good a job as that on perhaps the most difficult of all 
subjects to televise, then it really has arrived.”

The public’s embrace of the World Series on television, along with 
the generous coverage of the telecasts by the press, provided an 
important boost to the nascent television industry. The Sporting News 
reported that the first televised World Series increased sales for new 
receivers in New York to levels not seen since the early days of radio. 
Similar reports came from dealers in Washington and Philadelphia.

<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Sarnoff">David Sarnoff</a>,
 chairman of RCA – which owed NBC and was a leading manufacturer of 
receivers – regarded television’s coverage of baseball and its crowning 
event, the World Series, as one of the most important factors in 
triggering the growth of the new medium.

Television makers, <a href="https://books.google.com/books/about/Center_Field_Shot.html?id=6kPQhpS-X8YC">he concluded</a>,
 “had to have baseball games and if [baseball owners] had demanded 
millions for the rights, we would have had to give it to them.”

The television industry eventually did pay millions and then billions for those rights. <a href="https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Daily/Issues/2018/11/15/Media/MLB-Fox.aspx">Fox’s latest seven-year contract</a>, including rights to the World Series, pays Major League Baseball $5.1 billion.

Happy Chandler’s 1947 demand for a $100,000 seems like quite a bargain today.

ingrained in the minds of baseball fans thanks to television coverage. 
This year’s World Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and Houston 
Astros will surely bring another timeless highlight to the <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2021/11/03/2021-world-series-ratings-braves-astros-game-6-draws-14point3-million.html">12 million or so viewers</a> expected to watch. Yet the first 43 World Series weren’t televised at all. It wasn’t 
until the 1947 series between the New York Yankees and Brooklyn Dodgers –
 75 years ago – that fans could watch their favorite players duke it out
 on screen. As I detail in my book “<a href="https://www.nebraskapress.unl.edu/bison-original/9780803248250/">Center Field Shot: A History of Baseball on Television</a>,”
 which I co-authored with Robert Bellamy, the telecasts became a 
sensation. They drew millions of Americans to a new medium at a time 
when there were no national networks, only a handful of stations and 
somewhere between 50,000 and 60,000 TVs in the entire country.<h2>Negotiations go down to the wire</h2>In August 1947, the television industry anticipated a possible 
all-New York World Series: The Yankees had a huge lead in the American 
League, while the Dodgers also held a substantial one in the National 
League. If the two teams met in October, New York’s three television stations – run by NBC ABC, and the now-extinct <a href="https://www.britannica.com/topic/DuMont-Television-Network">DuMont</a> – decided they wanted to cover the games.But the rights to televise the games were held by the <a href="https://www.britannica.com/topic/Mutual-Broadcasting-System">Mutual Broadcasting System</a>,
 a radio network that had no television division. Thus, Mutual would 
need to farm out the coverage to one or more New York stations. Although no national television network existed at the time, NBC, 
DuMont and CBS did have the means to link stations on the Eastern 
Seaboard through a combination of coaxial cable, microwave and 
over-the-air broadcast transmissions, expanding the potential audience 
for the World Series. The Series would air on eight stations in four 
markets: New York City, Philadelphia, Washington and Schenectady, New 
York.While the Yankees-Dodgers series materialized, the televising of the Series almost didn’t. The predictable stumbling block was money. Baseball commissioner <a href="https://baseballhall.org/hall-of-famers/chandler-happy">Albert B. “Happy” Chandler</a>
 wanted $100,000 for the television rights to the Series. Gillette, the 
sponsor of the radio coverage on the Mutual Broadcasting System, balked 
at the steep price given television’s limited penetration – only 50,000 
to 60,000 U.S. households owned TVs at the time. The radio rights to 
reach the nation’s 29 million homes with radios had cost Mutual only 
$175,000. Initial negotiations produced an offer of $60,000 from two sponsors: Gillette and the Ford Motor Company. New York’s <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Liebmann">Liebmann Breweries</a>
 offered to meet Chandler’s $100,000 demand, but the commissioner 
refused because he did not want beer ads when youngsters would be 
prominent members of the audience.Even before a coverage deal had been finalized, bars, restaurants, 
television dealers, department stores, automobile dealerships and movie 
theaters started advertising the event, urging customers to come by to 
watch the World Series on television. And in the days and weeks leading 
up to the Fall Classic, the demand for television sets spiked. The excitement pressured Chandler and the sponsors to reach a compromise. Finally, on Sept. 26, just four days before Game 1 at Yankee Stadium, Chandler, Gillette and Ford <a href="https://worldradiohistory.com/Archive-BC/BC-1947/1947-10-06-BC.pdf">agreed to $65,000 for the rights to televise the World Series</a>.
 Production costs added another $35,000 to the sponsors’ bill. Mutual, 
Gillette and Ford also agreed to allow all three New York TV stations 
and those connected to them to broadcast the game, providing the widest 
possible exposure.<h2>An unexpectedly strong response</h2>Initial industry estimates had the Series reaching between 600,000 
and 700,000 viewers, many of them located in the bars and restaurants 
where a substantial number of the nation’s first television receivers 
were located. But that forecast ended up being conservative. Although home viewing for the seven games was substantial – 450,000 in a <a href="https://worldradiohistory.com/Archive-All-Music/Billboard/40s/1947/BB-1947-10-18.pdf">Hooper rating survey commissioned by Billboard</a>
 – the out-of-home viewing numbers were extraordinary: Another 3.5 
million were estimated to have viewed the World Series in public 
locales. Hooper’s survey found that an average of 82 customers showed up at 
each of these public locations to watch at least some of the World 
Series. Variety reported that bar owners saw a 500% increase in patrons 
during the Series, with some offering reservations to their regulars for
 a choice location near the TV set.What viewers from those choice seats saw was primitive by today’s 
standards. The screen was usually small – 12 diagonal inches or less. 
The low-definition images were black and white and came from just a few 
cameras. No extreme close-ups were possible. There was no instant 
replay, so fans had to pay attention or the moment was lost. But for the first time, they were seeing the World Series live, and for free.<h2>The TV industry’s World Series bump</h2>The audience liked what they saw. <a href="https://worldradiohistory.com/Archive-All-Music/Billboard/40s/1947/BB-1947-10-11.pdf">Billboard</a>,
 quoting The Newark Evening News, reported that TV “audiences hung on 
every turn of the video cameras and the ‘oohs and aahs’ at a slide or 
strikeout were something radio broadcasters would give their eye teeth 
to hear.” It didn’t hurt that <a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/postseason/1947_WS.shtml">the 1947 World Series</a> ended up being so dramatic. Hays High hosted Wichita West in week nine on Friday at Lewis Field Stadium.&nbsp; It was a costly win however as the Indians lost Malik Bah on the first offensive play of the game for Hays. Bah, who entered the game ten points shy of the single season scoring record, landed awkwardly on his&nbsp; arm following a tackle. He was removed from the game with his arm stabilized.&nbsp;

The Indians did score on the next play when Keyreese Groen ran in from 38 yards out. It was the first of his five combined touchdowns. He scored again on a 13 yard run and threw touchdown passes to Bryce Salmans, Matthew Berner and Keamonie Archie.&nbsp;

West did manage a first half touchdown for a 41-6 lead for Hays at halftime.

The Indians scored three points on a Teegan Turnbull 33 yard field goal to start the second half. It would be their last points of the night. The Pioneers scored on two runs of 67 and 28 yards for the final of 44-20.

Hays improves to 8-1 while West ends their season at 2-7. The Indians will host Valley Center next Friday. The Hornets beat Maize South 34-27.

The TMP-Marian Monarchs closed out the 2022 season with a rout of the Southwestern Height Mustangs Friday night at Lewis Field Stadium in Hay 55-6.

The Monarchs (4-5) wasted little time getting their offense going, scoring on their first three drives of the first half.

TMP's first drive started at midfield and on fourth down Kade Harris scored a 29-yard touchdown run on fourth down to put the Monarchs up 7-0 after the Henry Speno extra point.

After a Kendall Walker interception, TMP freshman Carson Liles found Harris first his first career touchdown pass from 24 yards out to put TMP up 14-0.

After a long touchdown pass by the Mustangs (2-7) cut the TMP lead in half, the Monarchs answered with a Landon Rozean 10-yard touchdown with a little over four minutes left in the first half for a 21-6 lead.

With the short field to start the second half, after a failed outside kick attempt by Southwestern Heights, Liles scored his first career rushing touchdown to put TMP up 28-6.

The Monarchs scored 21 points in the third quarter with Liles finding Harrison Lowe from 23 yards out for his first career receiving touchdown and then Peyton Schwartz got into the action with his first receiving touchdown from 17 yards out to put TMP up 41-6 with four minutes left in the third quarter.

Liles threw his fourth touchdown pass of the game, a 40-yard strike to Harris, to open the fourth quarter and then Rozean scored his second rushing touchdown with a little more than a minute left in the game as the Monarchs go on to the 55-6 victory.

Liles finished the game six-of-seven passing for 149 yards and four touchdowns.

The Monarchs amassed a second-high 423 yards in the win.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs acquired New York Giants wide receiver Kadarius Toney on Thursday for a pair of picks in next year's draft, a person familiar with the terms of the trade told The Associated Press.

The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal was pending a physical, said the Giants will get the third-round pick that the Chiefs got as compensation for Ryan Poles becoming the general manager of the Chicago Bears along with a sixth-round pick in the 2023 draft that will be hosted by Kansas City.

"We just thought it was for the best of the team,” Giants coach Brian Daboll told reporters Thursday.

Toney was drafted in the first round by the Giants last year and is under contract through the 2024 season with a fifth-year team option.

That makes the trade relatively low risk for the Chiefs, who still have eight selections in next year's draft.

Toney only has two catches for no yards this season in part because of a right hamstring injury he sustained in training camp. He tweaked the injury in Week 2 against Carolina, then hurt his left hamstring in practice earlier this month.

The Chiefs are off this week, which could give Toney time enough to recover — and learn their playbook — before they begin the second half of the season against the Tennessee Titans on Nov. 6 at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Giants were eager to gain draft capital for Toney, who had been bypassed on the depth chart in New York, while the Chiefs were eager to gain a high-upside wide receiver signed for the next two years. Their top two wide receivers, Mecole Hardman and JuJu Smith-Schuster, are scheduled to become free agents after this season.

After heavy rain and strong winds suspended play after 13 holes on Monday, Brasser finished her first round with back-to-back bogeys on Tuesday morning. But the Andale, Kan. native turned things around after signing her first scorecard, recording five birdies in the final round while the rest of the field struggled through windy and soggy conditions. The nine honorees matches the second-most for a season in program history. She has helped the Tigers to 11 shutouts as a team this year, the fifth-most in the nation at this point. Even with being an anchor among the Tiger defense at center back, she still provided crucial moments of offense for the Tigers notching two goals and two assists during the regular season. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6693">Isabel Robben</a>&nbsp;earned a second-team selection at goalkeeper. She has the best marks in both categories among MIAA goalkeepers that have played in all conference contests (11) and all contests overall (18) this season. She has been instrumental in making the Tigers one of the elite defensive teams in the nation, complementing Madden in the other center back position. Puchino also has one goal for the season, a key equalizer in the draw with nationally ranked Central Missouri. She has played 1,615 of the 1,620 minutes possible for the season, only missing five minutes of action due to a brief injury sustained before returning for the remainder of that contest. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6682">Emily Hutchings</a>&nbsp;earned the second All-MIAA selection of her career with a third-team nod at midfielder. She was a second-team selection last year. Serving as one of the team's captains and a steadying presence on the field for the Tigers, Hutchings has played the most minutes among any midfielder on the All-MIAA team with 1,566, and the most minutes in MIAA-only contests among the group (960). She has helped FHSU to the fewest goals allowed among MIAA teams with just eight for the season, and FHSU ranks 10th&nbsp;in the nation in goals against average (0.44). She has helped the Tigers to 11 shutouts as a team this year, the fifth-most in the nation at this point. Even with being an anchor among the Tiger defense at center back, she still provided crucial moments of offense for the Tigers notching two goals and two assists during the regular season. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6693">Isabel Robben</a>&nbsp;earned a second-team selection at goalkeeper. She has been one of the top goalkeepers in the conference and nation with a .448 goals-against average that ranks 13th&nbsp;nationally and .877 save percentage that ranks 18th&nbsp;nationally. She has the best marks in both categories among MIAA goalkeepers that have played in all conference contests (11) and all contests overall (18) this season. She has played all but 11 minutes this season and has 10 individual shutouts along with a combined shutout in the non-conference match when she rested for the final 11 minutes. She leads the Tigers in goals with seven and points with 15 entering postseason play. Brasser fired a 1-under par round of 71, coming from seven shots back of the lead at the start of round two to claim the tournament by one stroke. She finished at 5-over par overall, a total of 149. Brasser topped a field of 90 golfers in the event, including four of the top 60 players in NCAA Division II according to the Golfstat individual ranking system. She carded five birdies, four bogeys, and nine pars in the second round to chase down round-one leader Lanie Veenendall of Top 20-ranked Augustana (S.D.). Veenendall shot a 1-under par 71 before shooting a 7-over par 79 in round two. By the end of the day, Brasser climbed 14 notches on the leaderboard to win the tournament. Brasser tied for the most birdies in the tournament with seven, matching Aubrey Marx of Southern Arkansas, and she tied for second in par-5 scoring for the tournament at 1-under par, only behind Emma Hester of Southern Arkansas (2-under). Brasser was even par on the par-3 holes in the tournament. The tournament was suspended due to rain on day one with most golfers stopping on or through 13 holes of play. ⛳ FHSU's Brasser charges to Tulsa Cup title

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Volleyball fell in four sets to No. 8 ranked Nebraska-Kearney on Tuesday evening (Oct. 25) at Gross Memorial Coliseum. The Tigers evened up the match with a convincing second-set win and held a lead in the fourth, but the Lopers made a late burst to avoid a fifth set. UNK moved to 24-3 overall, 14-3 in the MIAA, while FHSU is now 10-15 overall and 5-12 in the MIAA.

HAYS -&nbsp;The Hays High boys soccer team dropped their postseason opener Tuesday, losing 1-0 to Andover in the first round of the 5A West Regional. 

Andover (8-6-2) advances to the reginal final where they will play No. 2 seed Emporia Thursday.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Frank Clark was suspended two games by the NFL on Tuesday after pleading no contest last month to two counts of misdemeanor possession of an assault weapon in Los Angeles.

The league announced the suspension as the Chiefs (5-2) head into their bye week. He will miss games against the Titans and Jaguars and will be allowed back with the team on Nov. 14 in time for that week's game against the Chargers.

The three-time Pro Bowl pass rusher was sentenced to one year of probation and 40 hours of community service after he was arrested in March 2021, when he was pulled over while riding with another man in a vehicle that did not have a license plate. An officer noticed a weapon in the car and recovered two loaded firearms.

Three months later, Clark was pulled over for a code violation and officers discovered another gun in his vehicle.

The 29-year-old Clark has struggled with illnesses throughout the fall, and that's limited him to just 15 tackles and three sacks. That comes after a disappointing season in which Clark had 4 1/2 sacks, his lowest total since his rookie season.

The Chiefs, desperate to improve their pass rush after ranking among the league's worst last season, managed to rework Clark's massive contract in the offseason to keep him in Kansas City. He got a signing bonus of $4,550,000, a base salary of $3,725,000 this season and a roster bonus of $900,000, along with $75,000 for each game he is active.

Without Clark, the Chiefs will have to lean on first-round draft pick George Karlaftis and veteran Carlos Dunlap along with Mike Danna, who has struggled for several weeks with a calf injury but should be healthy after the bye. They also will need to get continued production from defensive tackle Chris Jones, who leads the team with five sacks.

The tournament was only 36 holes, played in damp conditions due to rain in the Tulsa area. Mills put together rounds of 75 and 76 for a 151 total. He had three birdies in the opening round, then two in the second round.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7103">Tanner Copeland</a>&nbsp;was the next Tiger finisher in a tie for 26th, shooting rounds of 74 and 78 for an 8-over total of 152.
