BELOIT - The TMP-Marian Monarchs entered week eight of the high
school football season knowing that a win over Beloit would guarantee them a
first-round home game next week in the first round of the 2A playoffs. 

But
there was always the chance that if they lost and Russell lost to Norton, that
the Monarchs would punch their ticket to the postseason for just the eighth
time in program history. 

Friday night in Beloit the Monarchs could not overcome
sloppy play and lost a defense battle 14-6.

TMP (4-4, 4-2 MCL, 1-3 2A-D8) was able to force Beloit to
punt the ball on the Trojans first offensive possession but a penalty on the
return set TMP deep in the shadows of their own goalposts. 

The Monarchs lost yards on three plays and had to punt but a
13-yard Griffin Schumacher punt gave Beloit the ball at the TMP 14-yardline.
The Trojans took advantage, scoring two plays later for a 6-0 lead.

TMP, on their next drive, got inside the Trojans 30-yardline
but a penalty pushed them back and the drive stalled. 

Neither team was able to get anything going the rest of the
first half as Beloit held on to a 6-0 lead at halftime.

The third quarter was more of the same with TMP punting two
more times. The Monarchs also turned the ball over twice in the game while forcing Beloit into two turnovers of their own.

Beloit (4-4, 1-2 NCAA, 3-1 2A-D8) scored their second
touchdown of the game with just under three minutes to play in third quarter
with the two-point conversion making it 14-0.

At the end of the third quarter Beloit threatened to score
when their running back broke free for a 40-yard run before Schumacher punched
it out from behind and Logan Baalman scooped it up give TMP the ball back at
the end of the third quarter.

TMP opened the fourth quarter with a touchdown drive, sparked
by a 40-yard run on fourth down by Schumacher that set up a one-yard touchdown
two plays later for Schumacher, cutting the Beloit lead to 14-6.

The Monarchs got one more chance in the fourth quarter but they
turned it over on downs and the Trojans ran out the clock on a 14-6 victory. 

But that eight point margin was just good enough for the Monarchs
to secure a playoff spot and when Norton completed their 20-9 win over Russell
it gave TMP the three seed out of 2A district 8 and also allowed Phillipsburg
to sneak in as the four-seed, eliminating Russell from postseason contention.

TMP will travel to Larned next week for a matchup with the
Indians who finished second in 2A district 7.

HAYS - Hays High football honored their seniors on Friday night ahead of the game with the Topeka High Trojans.

Hays opened the game by scoring on their first six drives on the way to a 62-33 victory. The 62 points is tied for the fourth most scored in school history.

Malik Bah scored on three rushing touchdowns while Carter Graham threw three scores to Jarek Purdy and Ian McGuire added a touchdown rush of his own. The Indians led 48-20 by halftime.

Topeka scored on three big plays. The Trojans put points on the board with a 61 yard run on third down, an 86 yard kickoff return, and a 29 yard pass.

Bah played just beyond the first quarter. He finished with 167 yards and three scores on ten carries.

McGuire scored a pair of second half rushing touchdowns on his way to 198 rushing yards. Topeka scored a wild touchdown after recovering a fumble that was preceded by an interception on the same play and an eight yard touchdown rush against the junior varsity.

Hays compiled 529 yards of offense. Graham threw for 154 yards.

The Indians improve to 6-2. Topeka falls to 1-7. Unofficially the Indians will be the seven seed in 5A West and host Valley Center in week nine.

🏈 Hays crushes Topeka on Senior Night

PITTSBURG, Kan. - The Fort Hays State volleyball team picked up a road win over Pittsburg State Friday evening, toppling the Gorillas in four sets, 25-17, 19-25, 26-24, 25-17. The Tigers (9-13, 3-10 MIAA) totaled 11 team blocks in the win, reaching double figures for the third time across their last four contests. FHSU limited the Gorillas (7-14, 3-10 MIAA) to an attack percentage of .105 (48-31-162) while turning in a swing rate of .219 of their own (56-21-160)

A seven-point run helped Fort Hays State take control in the opening set, turning a 7-5 lead into a 14-5 advantage. Caiya Stucky&nbsp;and Riley Tinder&nbsp;both recorded two kills during the run. The Tigers held on down the stretch, maintaining a lead of at least six points the rest of the way.

The teams traded points early in the second set before a 7-2 Gorilla run turned an 11-11 tie into an 18-13 PSU lead. Kills from Ashlyn Reeves&nbsp;and Emily Ellis&nbsp;and a combo block from Claire Olson&nbsp;and Ellis helped the Tigers close within three, but the Gorillas bounced back to even the match with a 25-19 win.

Fort Hays State never trailed in the third set, scoring eight of the first 10 points to take control. The Tigers later led by as many as 10, 15-5, before Pittsburg State started to rally. A 13-5 run allowed the home team to pull within two, 20-18, prompting a Tiger timeout. Ellis and Stucky combined for a block out of the huddle to retake control before Tinder put down another kill, putting FHSU up 22-18. The Tigers reached set point, 24-22, but Pittsburg State scored the next two points to level the score at 24. Olson recorded a kill on the next rally to put FHSU back on top before teaming up with Reeves for the set-winning kill, 26-24.

Ellis took control in the fourth set, throwing down seven kills on eight attempts without recording an error. Pittsburg State led momentarily early on, 4-3, before Fort Hays State regained the lead for good on a Tinder kill. The Tigers continued to build on their lead throughout the set before Tinder brought the evening to a close with her 15th kill of the match.

Tinder added 20 digs on the evening, recording her fourth-consecutive double-double and her ninth of the season. Ellis contributed 15 kills on 25 swings, compiling an attack percentage of .520, while recording seven blocks. Stucky distributed 45 assists and added four blocks, including one solo.

The Tigers will wrap up the quick road trip Saturday when they take on No. 19 Central Oklahoma beginning at 2 p.m. in Edmond, Okla.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Tigers played lockdown defense, notching their fifth-straight shutout victory by a score of 1-0. FHSU moved to 11-1-3 on the season, 7-0-1 in conference play, while MSSU fell to 0-13-2, 0-7-1 in MIAA action.

Keeper Isabel Robben was up to the test in the first period, securing three big saves to keep MSSU off the board early. The Lions outshot the Tigers 5-2 up until the halftime break. The Lions also earned five corner kicks but came up empty handed. The match was scoreless after the first period.

The Tigers came out on a mission in the second period, flipping the script and outshooting the Lions 5-1. The Lions' lone shot was not on target. The Tigers broke through in the 58' minute with a goal scored by Hannah Mares&nbsp;to take the lead. Mares' shot was assisted by Sullivan Kelly, setting her up perfectly for the go-ahead score. That's all that Fort Hays would need the rest of the way to secure another road victory.

Fort Hays State travels to Warrensburg to face Central Missouri on Sunday at 1 p.m. UCM currently sits just one spot back of the Tigers and Ichabods in the MIAA standings with three matches to play in the regular season.

The Hays High Indians return home Friday night to close out
the regular season with a week eight matchup with the Topeka High Trojans.

The Indians are coming off an overtime win over Liberal to improve
5-2 and 3-1 in the WAC.

Topeka has lost three straight games are enter the contest
1-6.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Lewis Field in Hays. Live

Hays and Topeka High have three common opponents. Manhattan
who the Trojans lost to 55-19…Liberal which the Redskins won 51-13 and Junction
City who shut out Topeka last week 47-0. 

This is the 2nd meeting between Hays High and Topeka High.
The Indians won the only other meeting last year 56-6.

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Fort Hays State's Regan Hodsden won the 2023 MIAA Women's Cross Country Championship Friday afternoon, helping the Tigers to a third-place team finish. Two other Tigers joined Hodsden on the All-MIAA podium, with Jaycee Vath&nbsp;placing third to pick up first team honors and Darian Hudgeons&nbsp;placing 20th to receive honorable mention status for the second year in a row.

Hodsden is the second Tiger to win an individual conference title, and the first to do so on the women's team (Cory Keehn, 2012). The Tigers' third-place finish matches their second-best finish at the MIAA meet since joining the league in 2006.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A native of Mitchell, Neb., Hodsden continued a dominant season, winning her third race in as many tries. The 2022 XC All-American won the six-kilometer race in 21:29.8, finishing seven seconds in front of her nearest competitor.

Vath's third-place finish made Fort Hays State the only school with multiple finishers inside the top five. The Lincoln, Kan. native shaved more than 19 seconds off her personal-best 6K time, completing the race in 21:43.0. Hudgeons grabbed the final all-conference spot with a time of 22:29.6.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chargers and the Chiefs have been predictably good on offense this season, at least statistically, which means in the complementary world of the NFL, the difference in their records probably resides on the opposite side of the ball.

<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chargers-cowboys-justin-herbert-0e234a21170fe533d94e27fbfaa29e60">The Chargers are 2-3</a>&nbsp;largely because they allow more yards than all but one team in the league.

<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-city-chiefs-analysis-3aa0747d1c2807af3ac6071b3eff22b5">The Chiefs are 5-1</a>&nbsp;thanks to a defense that allows fewer points than all but one.

“Yeah, that helps a ton, especially when you don't play your best ball,” said Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who has been openly critical of his own play heading into&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/nfl">Sunday's game between the AFC West rivals</a>&nbsp;at Arrowhead Stadium.

“Our defense is holding it down for us right now, but let's take the pressure off them so they can play free and be even better.”

Imagine that: The Chiefs are tied for the best record in the NFL with an offense Mahomes thinks has yet to hit its stride.

Still, the Chiefs are second in yards passing, fourth in total offense and ninth in scoring the first six weeks of the season. And while those numbers were inflated by a blowout of the Bears, Kansas City's offense has nevertheless been impressive enough on a week-to-week basis to win every game since a season-opening loss to Detroit.

Part of the reason Mahomes is lamenting the offense has been its failure to reach the end zone. The Chiefs have piled up the yards between the 20s, taking advantage of short passes while opposing defenses continually take away the deep stuff, but their offense has been bogged down by turnovers and penalties when it reaches the red zone.

“You have to continue to push, continue to get better and better. That’s all you can do regardless,” Mahomes said. “We understand that it’s going to take the offense at some point to have to have the big game to win it.”

Might happen this week. The Chargers, despite some desultory lulls of their own, are a top-10 offense when it comes to passing, total offense and scoring, so the Chiefs might well need their offense to finally pop to win a shootout.

It should help their cause that the Chargers have among the worst defenses in the league.

“This is going to be a different week because it’s a shorter week,” said Chargers coach Brandon Staley, whose team is coming off a Monday night game while the Chiefs played the previous Thursday, giving them four more days to prepare.

“But in terms of the approach of how we attack a plan and what’s needed to be our best for Sunday, that has to stay the same,” Staley said. “What you have to focus on are the keys to winning. What ultimately is going to impact winning on Sunday? That’s where our full focus has to be right now. From now until kickoff, just focusing on the things that are going to help us win.”

The Chiefs should get even better on defense with the return of Charles Omenihu, who was suspended the first six games for violating the NFL’s personal-conduct policy. The former 49ers pass rusher, who signed a two-year, $16 million deal with Kansas City, is expected to be active against the Chargers despite having only a week to get back up to speed.

Kansas City brought back wide receiver Mecole Hardman this week in a swap of late-round draft picks with the Jets, who had signed him to a $4 million deal in the offseason. Hardman was part of both of the Chiefs’ recent Super Bowl-winning teams, but he barely got on the field in New York, which had made it clear in recent weeks that it was eager to move on.

The Chargers are tied for third in the league with 21 sacks, and all of them have come in their last four games. Morgan Fox has four straight games where he has taken down the quarterback, the longest streak of his career, and Khalil Mack has seven in the past two games alone, including a franchise-record six in a win over the Raiders.

“He is really healthy, and a healthy Khalil Mack is a productive Khalil Mack," said Staley, whose veteran pass rusher has sacked Mahomes twice over the years. “We’ve done an outstanding job against the run, which has earned him more opportunities to rush. I think he has capitalized on his matchups. When you can get into a rhythm, as a rusher, that’s as good as Khalil is, I think that you’re going to be consistent around the quarterback, which is what he has been.”

Justin Herbert has completed fewer than 60% of his passes in consecutive games for only the third time in his four-year career, going 22 of 37 for 227 yards with two touchdowns and a pick last week against Dallas. Yet he also has three 300-yard games in six starts against the Chiefs.

“They are kind of young, but they don’t play like it. They play like they’re veterans all around the board,” Herbert said. "They’re really well-coached. When you have a group like that together, it’s going to make for a really good defense.”

The Chiefs have won three straight against the Chargers, part of an era of AFC West dominance that has yielded seven straight division titles. One reason for that sustained success is that Chiefs coach Andy Reid spends time during training camp working specifically on division opponents, and that could give his team an advantage when game week arrives.

“I don’t know if most teams do that but I’m sure other teams do,” Reid said. “I think taking the time for the coaches and players when it’s not quite so chaotic as during the season, I think helps.”

HAYS, Kan. - With a dominant performance the Fort Hays State Tigers secured a resounding victory over the Ouachita Baptist Tigers, with a final score of 6-0. Fort Hays State goes to 5-6-2 and 4-2-2 in conference play, while OBU falls to 0-11-3 and 0-6-2 in GAC play.

The first half of the game saw the Fort Hays State Tigers asserting their dominance with five goals.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-soccer/roster/elias-ovelar-semeniuk/7678">Elias Ovelar Semeniuk</a>&nbsp;got the ball rolling with an unassisted goal at the 4:13 mark.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-soccer/roster/blake-arndt/7300">Blake Arndt</a>&nbsp;added to the lead with a goal in the 11th minute, assisted by&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-soccer/roster/pablo-orozco/7441">Pablo Orozco</a>. The second half was less eventful in terms of scoring but Fort Hays State maintained control of the game.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-soccer/roster/agustin-ayala/7302">Agustin Ayala</a>&nbsp;managed to find the back of the net at the 64th minute, with&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-soccer/roster/pablo-orozco/7441">Pablo Orozco</a>&nbsp;providing yet another assist.

Fort Hays State's goalkeeper,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-soccer/roster/ben-dixon/7307">Ben Dixon</a>, had a solid performance by making three saves and maintaining a clean sheet throughout the game. On the other side, Masaya Nitta of Ouachita Baptist put in a commendable effort, despite the challenging circumstances. He recorded 12 saves on the night before yielding to Dillon Staal for the final 19 minutes of the game. Fort Hays State displayed exceptional offensive prowess, tallying 35 shots with 20 on target, while Ouachita Baptist managed just 7 shots with 3 on target.

The victory for Fort Hays State showcased its offensive capability and teamwork. Fort Hays State looks to build on this performance, continuing its season this Saturday (Oct. 21) when they face Harding at home. Kickoff will be at 11 a.m.&nbsp;&nbsp;

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Wide receiver Mecole Hardman, who was&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/jets-chiefs-mecole-hardman-b22fa23cdf88852183aa58d3e0c4b1ff">traded from the New York Jets</a>&nbsp;back to the Kansas City Chiefs this week, said Thursday that he spent part of last season in the hospital after an abdominal injury caused him to lose feeling in his legs.

The injury occurred during a game against Tennessee in early November, Hardman said. He finished the game, and it was the following day that he began feeling cramps in his abdomen. The pain was getting worse by the hour, and after Hardman phoned Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder, he was taken to the emergency room and admitted to the hospital.

He lost feeling in his legs for “four or five days,” Hardman said, and was hospitalized two more days after getting it back, before he was finally discharged. Hardman missed the final nine games of the regular season and the Chiefs' postseason win over Jacksonville, then hurt his groin in the AFC title game against Cincinnati, forcing him to miss their Super Bowl win over Philadelphia.

“It was scary as hell, not being able to move my legs,” Hardman said in his first comments since returning to Kansas City. “It makes you think, ‘Is this it?’ The feeling came back — the doctor said it would come back, and that gave me hope. But the 10 days I was there, I slept maybe 8 hours or so, 10 hours max, because I was in so much pain.”

Doctors went back and forth on a diagnosis before settling on osteitis pubis, an inflammation of the joint between the left and right pubic bones that causes swelling and pain that extends from the groin to the lower abdomen.

The injury caused Hardman to miss the majority of his contract year, when his rookie deal was ending and he was hoping to land a big pay day. He had some interest in free agency from the Browns and several other teams, but he ultimately decided to sign a $4 million prove-it deal with the Jets in part because of the potential to play with Aaron Rodgers.

When the quarterback tore his Achilles tendon in the Jets' opener, Hardman said that threw their offense into disarray. He barely played the first five games, catching a single pass, and it soon became clear that New York was ready to move on from him.

“I got with my agents and they said there's some talk they could possibly trade you,” Hardman said. “After that, that's when we just started waiting for the inevitable, seeing what would happen. They kept it low-key the teams that were interested — in the mix. When I heard it was Kansas City, I was excited to get back here.”

The Chiefs waived wide receiver Montrell Washington and defensive tackle Keondre Coburn to clear the way for Hardman and defensive end Charles Omenihu, who is expected to be added to the roster after finishing his six-game NFL suspension.

Chiefs coordinators Matt Nagy and Steve Spagnuolo said they hope to get Washington and Coburn on the practice squad.

In the meantime, Hardman is trying to get up to speed in time to play Sunday against the Chargers. He said the playbook has changed little since he was part of the offense, though some of the terminology is different. And while the Chiefs hope he can provide some punch at wide receiver, special teams coordinator Dave Toub also plans to use him as a returner.

“He looks good,” Toub said. “We saw him at the Jets game when we played there. It's good to see him back in the building. If he's up (on the gameday roster), he's going to be a guy that will play on some special teams for sure. But obviously he just got here. He has to get established again, and Andy (Reid) will make that decision pretty soon.”

Chiefs punter Tommy Townsend has been dealing with hamstring soreness this season that has landed him on the injury report but has yet to keep him out of a game. That led someone to ask Toub who his backup would be if Townsend went down during a game, and the anticipated answer — big-legged kicker Harrison Butker — turned out to be far off base.

“Believe it or not, 15 is our backup punter,” Toub said, referring, of course, to quarterback Patrick Mahomes. “He wants to do it. He shows me all the time. He's out here on Saturdays booming punts. He wants to do it.”

Incidentally, the backup to Butker is not Townsend but Chiefs safety Justin Reid. He made a PAT in emergency duty last year.

Some bragging rights will be on the line Friday night when the kids of Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy and defensive backs coach Dave Merritt meet in a high school football game in suburban Kansas City. Nagy's son, Tate, plays quarterback for Blue Valley West while Merritt's son, Dawson, is a linebacker for rival Blue Valley.

“They went to Iowa State together on a (recruiting) visit earlier this year," Merritt said. "Last year they were sophomores; they didn't know each other. Now they're both in their junior year. So we're calling it the Nagy-Merritt Bowl.”

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Jets are trading seldom-used wide receiver Mecole Hardman back to the Kansas City Chiefs, where he was part of two Super Bowl-winning teams, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

The Jets also are sending a seventh-round pick in the 2025 draft to the Chiefs and getting a sixth-rounder that year in return, according to the person who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the teams had not announced the trade, which was first reported by ESPN.

The Chiefs selected the 25-year-old Hardman in the second round of the 2019 draft, and he made the Pro Bowl as a rookie as a return specialist. Hardman gradually became a bigger part of the Kansas City offense, taking advantage of prolific passer Patrick Mahomes, and wound up making 151 catches for 2,088 yards and 16 touchdowns over four seasons with the Chiefs.

He became a free agent last offseason and signed a $4 million contract with the Jets, who hoped that he could incorporate his speed and versatility into their offense. The deal included a $2.5 million signing bonus and $3.6 million in guarantees.

Hardman had a quiet training camp, and undrafted rookie Xavier Gipson eventually surpassed him on the depth chart as a returner and wide receiver. Gipson had the winning punt return in overtime in New York’s season-opening win over Buffalo and has become more involved in the offense, including running the ball out of the backfield on reverses and end-arounds.

Meanwhile, Hardman played only 28 snaps on offense — with one 6-yard catch — and two snaps on special teams. He was a healthy inactive in Week 5 at Denver when the Jets instead elevated wide receiver Irvin Charles from the practice squad because of his special teams skills.

Hardman acknowledged last week that his lack of playing time has been “hard sometimes mentally,” but said he was focused on contributing however he could.

“As of now, I guess there’s just maybe better options,” he said. “Or they just haven’t called my number yet.”

Trade speculation centering around Hardman began circulating during the past few weeks.

“I just want to play,” Hardman said. “Whether it’s here or somewhere else, I don’t make that call.”

When asked if he’d welcome a trade, Hardman said: “It depends. If it works out for both sides, I guess, I don’t know. I’ve never been part of this, so I don’t know.”

Kansas City became a natural fit given his background with the Chiefs and their own problems at wide receiver.

They allowed Hardman and veteran JuJu Smith-Schuster to sign elsewhere in free agency, and they were confident that a young and untested group of wide receivers would be able to step up. But while rookie Rashee Rice has started to make more plays, the Chiefs have still gotten little from second-year pro Skyy Moore or oft-injured Kadarius Toney.

Wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who is making more than the rest of their receivers combined, has failed to make an impact, and the Chiefs lost Justin Watson for the short term after he bruised an elbow last week against Denver.

Watson did not practice Wednesday and is unlikely to play Sunday against the Chargers.

The Chiefs have won five straight heading into their AFC West matchup with Los Angeles, while the Jets handed the Eagles their first loss last week and are carrying back-to-back wins into their off week.

Hardman should immediately help a Chiefs offense in need of playmakers around Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce.

HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State baseball team will wrap up its fall practice season with the 2023 Tiger Fall World Series October 24-26 at Larks Park. All three games in the inter-squad series are free to attend and open to the public. First pitch is slated for 6:05 p.m. each evening.

The Tigers have been split up into two teams, one coached by assistant coach Cory BOnner and Luis Ayala&nbsp;and one led by graduate assistant Soren Graversen and Elliott Herrmann.

All three games will be played regardless of outcome.

The Hays High girls golf team shaved 10 strokes off their day
one total and finished in second place at the 5A State Golf Tournament Tuesday at
Carey Park in Hutchinson. After a 345 team score on Monday, Hays shot 335
Tuesday for a two-day total of 680. Kapaun Mt. Carmel won the team title by 31
shots. The Crusaders bettered Monday’s 327 by shooting 322 in the final round.
Bishop Carroll finished third with a 700.

Evyn Cox led the Indians with an eighth-place finish. Cox had
rounds of 83 and 82 for a two day total of 165. Abbie Norris had two rounds of
85 and tied for 11th at 170. After shooting an 89 on Monday, Jaycee Oakley
finished with an 83 on Tuesday and finished 13th at 172. Lily Garrison had
rounds of 88 and 85 and placed 15th with a 173. All four picked up all-state honors.

Kapaun’s Zimena Sarinana and Andover’s Regan Dusenbury both
shot rounds of 70 on Monday and 74 on Tuesday and finished atop the leaderboard
with a 144 total.

TMP-Marian’s Ashley Hipp closed with a 96 and finished 15th
at the 3-2-1A tourney at the Hesston Golf Course. Hipp shot an 88 in her first
round on Monday for a 184 total.

Margaret Ulruch of Collegiate, who shot a 73 Monday, won the
3-2-1A individual title after firing an 81 Tuesday for a 154 total. Colby’s
Anna Starbuck tied for second six strokes backs after rounds of 82 and 78.
Logan Nolan of Colby placed eighth with a 176.

Silver Lake won the team title with a 701, 21 shots better
than Colby who had a 723 total.

Topeka Hayden won the 4A team title by 37 shots over Wamego.
Hayden shot a 661 and Wamego 698. Wamego’s Addison Douglass won the individual title
after rounds of 73. Pratt’s Avery Blasi finished second six shots back.

Olathe Northwest won 6A by 24 shots over Manhattan. Kinslea
Jones of Maize had rounds of 71 and 66 and won the individual title by three
strokes over Blue Valley’s Hadley Neese who had rounds of 72 and 68.

one total and finished in second place at the 5A State Golf Tournament Tuesday at
Carey Park in Hutchinson. After a 345 team score on Monday, Hays shot 335
Tuesday for a two-day total of 680. Kapaun Mt. Carmel won the team title by 31
shots. The Crusaders bettered Monday’s 327 by shooting 322 in the final round.
Bishop Carroll finished third with a 700.Evyn Cox led the Indians with an eighth-place finish. Cox had
rounds of 83 and 82 for a two day total of 165. Abbie Norris had two rounds of
85 and tied for 11th at 170. After shooting an 89 on Monday, Jaycee Oakley
finished with an 83 on Tuesday and finished 13th at 172. Lily Garrison had
rounds of 88 and 85 and placed 15th with a 173. All four picked up all-state honors.Kapaun’s Zimena Sarinana and Andover’s Regan Dusenbury both
shot rounds of 70 on Monday and 74 on Tuesday and finished atop the leaderboard

⛳ HHS girls finish second at 5A state, TMP's Hipp top-20

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Volleyball dropped their mid-week MIAA match with Emporia State on Tuesday at Gross Memorial Coliseum. The Hornets took the first two sets before the Tigers won the third by two. However, a comeback was not in order as the Hornets put the match away in the fourth set. ESU won by scores of 26-24, 25-20, 23-25, and 25-12.

The Tigers had three set points to work with in the first set, only to see the Hornets rally for five straight points and steal the opening set. A pair of kills, an attack error by FHSU, and then a pair of service aces put the Hornets over the top to win by two.

The Tigers held a five-point lead in the second set only to see the Hornets rally back to a tie at 17-17. Eventually the Hornets snuck past again with a five-point run to take a four-point lead at 22-18. ESU went on to take the set 25-20.

After another five-point lead by the Tigers early in the third set, the Hornets rallied back to even the score at 9-9. From that point, the set was tight, but the Tigers won three of the final four points in the set to take their first set of the night 25-23. Any Tiger comeback hopes were put to bed in the fourth set though when the Hornets went on a seven-point run to extend their lead to 19-8. They closed out the match with a 25-12 set win to knock of the Tigers 3-1.

Gracie Rains&nbsp;led the Tigers with 13 kills, followed by 11 from Riley Tinder, Caiya Stucky&nbsp;recorded 36 assists. Tinder finished with a double-double, adding a team-high 18 digs, while Kirsten Evans&nbsp;added 14 digs.

Sandora Sasaki was the workhorse for the Hornets, putting down 32 kills, but also had 14 errors attacking the ball 70 times. Brailee Bogle handed out 45 assists, while five Hornets reached double figures in digs led by Tasiah Nunnery with 16.

Now 8-13 overall, 2-10 in the MIAA, Fort Hays State hits the road this weekend for conference matches at Pittsburg State (Friday) and Central Oklahoma (Saturday). Emporia State moved to 10-9 overall and 4-7 in the MIAA with the win.

🏐 Tigers fall at home to Hornets in four

HAYS - The Hays Hays boys soccer team closed out their home schedule with a 10-0 win over TMP-Marian Tuesday night at Hays High School.

The Indians led 4-0 at the half and finished 4-2-1 at home.

The Indians have won three of their last four and take an 8-6-1 record into their regular season finale at the Wichita Classical School on Thursday.

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - Fort Hays State Women's Golf competed at the Midwest Intercollegiate Tournament held on October 16-17 at the challenging Mules National Golf Club. The 5682-yard, par-70 layout posed a challenge for the competition, resulting in an average stroke count of 82.49 throughout the tournament.

The Tigers opened with a score of 338 in the first round, followed by a 336 on day two. The team concluded the 20-team tournament with a total stroke count of 674, securing 17th overall. Notably, the team managed to register four birdies and 63 pars over the two-day tournament.

Leading the charge for Fort Hays State were Morgan Brasser and Corbyn Marquess, both securing the 33rd spot in the 112-player field. Brasser played posted rounds of 82 and 76, while Marquess&nbsp;posted scores of 78 and 80. Brasser had 22 pars and a birdie to her credit, while Marquess had 17 pars and a pair of birdies.

Hayden York&nbsp;secured the 89th spot with 12 pars and a birdie finishing with rounds of 85 and 89. Shauna Lee&nbsp;finished 102nd overall with rounds of 93 and 91. Ella Neuhauser&nbsp;concluded her performance at 104th place with rounds of 100 and 93.

Central Missouri emerged as the victors in the team competition on their home course, finishing 22 strokes over par. Second place was secured by Minnesota State, who recorded a total of 41 strokes over par as a team. Hayley Jones of Central Missouri clinched the individual title, finishing just 1-over par for the tournament.

The Fort Hays State Women's Golf Team will be back in action next week, competing in the last tournament of the fall season, the Tulsa Cup.&nbsp;&nbsp;
