HAYS – Wilbert Espinal had three hits including a home run as the Hays Larks hold off the Gameday Angels 8-5 Saturday night at Larks Park to run their winning-streak to nine games.
Espinal got the Larks (12-2, 9-1 RMBL) on the board early with an RBI double in the bottom of the first to give them the early lead. His solo homer in the eighth capped off the scoring and gave the Larks the series win.
Curtis Byrne added an RBI double in the first which gave the Larks an early 2-0 lead. Thomas Lyssy hit a two-run homer in the second and pushed the lead to 4-0. Gameday scored two in the top of the fourth but Kaleb Duncan’s two-out double in the fourth scored two and pushed the Larks lead to 6-2.
The Angels rallied with a run in the sixth and two in the seventh to pull within a run at 6-5 but Espinal hit a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh and Trent Baker added an RBI single in the eighth for the final margin.
Starter Blake Lehmbeck (3-0) allowed two unearned runs on three hits with six strikeouts and no walks for the win. Garrett Hicks struck out three over the final 1 1/3 innings and picked up his first save.
