GODDARD -&nbsp;Hays High traveled to Goddard on Friday night to face the Eisenhower Tigers in the Regional round of the 5A playoffs.

Eisenhower used great starting field position to jump out to a 20-0 first half lead on their way to a 41-7 win over the Indians.

Eisenhower took their opening drive 83 yards for a 7-0 lead and then picked off a Hays pass. The Indians blocked the field goal but threw a second interception on the first play of the next drive. Eisenhower threw a 38 yard touchdown on the next play for a 13-0 lead after the extra point missed.

The snowball continued to roll down hill for Hays as their next drive ended with a punt block that was recovered by the Tigers at the Indian four. Four plays later Eisenhower grabbed a 20-0 advantage.

Hays found some momentum with a touchdown drive of six plays 63 yards. Malik Bah hit pay dirt on a two yard run. The Indians forced a punt on the next possession but ended up punting the ball away themselves. Eisenhower took the punt back to the Indian 36 yard line and scored six plays later for a 27-7 halftime advantage.

Hays High pushed the ball into Eisenhower territory on five separate occasions but could not score any points on a defense that allows just 12 points per game.

Eisenhower added two second half scores on a 28 yard run and 17 yard pass for the 41-7 win.

Hays ends the season at 7-3. Eisenhower improves to 9-1.

Malik Bah ends a record breaking career with 3,546 yards on 427 carries both setting Hays High records. His senior campaign went for 1,279 yards on 189 carries. The 189 carries sets a single season record.

Hays High graduates nine seniors off of the roster.

NORTON – The TMP-Marian Monarchs season came to an end Friday
night in the second round of the 2A playoffs with an 18-6 loss to the Norton
Bluejays at Travis Field in Norton.

The Monarchs (5-5) started the game with the football and opened
with a solid drive that got all the way to the Norton 26 yard-line but the drive
stalled and TMP gave the ball to Norton on a turnover on downs.

Norton (10-0) wasted little time, scoring in just four plays when
quarterback Eli Jones busted free for a 46-yard touchdown run to put Norton up
6-0.

After a TMP punt, Norton drove right back down the field and
capped off a 12-play drive with an eight-yard touchdown run for a 12-0 lead
with just over seven minutes to play in the first half.

TMP finally broke onto the scoreboard with just under five
minutes left in the first half when, on fourth and one, TMP’s Peyton Schwartz broke
free for a 33 yard touchdown that cut the Norton lead in half at 12-6.

After both teams turned it over on an interception the first
half came to an end with Norton leading 12-6.

In the second half both teams settled in defensively with the
Monarchs forcing Norton into a punt and turnover on downs on their first two
offensive possessions of the second half.

TMP punted on the first drive of the second half and then
after driving inside the Norton 20 yard-line, TMP turned it over on an
interception.

Norton was able to take advantage with a 14-play drive that
ended with the second rushing touchdown of the night for Jones.

TMP tried to put together one last comeback effort but an
interception ended the Monarchs threat and Norton ran out the clock for an 18-6
victory.

Norton’s Eli Jones finished with 164 rushing yards and two
touchdowns in the victory. Norton outgained TMP 300 to 161 total yards.

TMP’s Griffin Schumacher was 9-18 passing for 98 yards and
three interceptions.

The win is the ninth straight for Norton over TMP.

The Tigers finished the opening day of their season 1-1 as a team after beating New Mexico Highlands then falling to Northern Colorado. The two contests were held at the Bank of Colorado Arena.

The Tigers were able to win all but two of their individual bouts against New Mexico Highlands to start their season off on the right foot. Fort Hays State recorded five major decisions, two decisions, and a sudden victory in the dual against Highlands. Cason Lindsay was the sudden victory in overtime by a score of 8-5 at 157 pounds.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/cody-hicks/7800">Cody Hicks</a>&nbsp;handled his opponent with an 11-point victory 12-1 at 165 pounds.

🤼‍♂️ No. 25 Tigers open season 1-1 at UNC Tri Dual

HAYS, Kan. – The Fort Hays State women's soccer team advanced to the MIAA Tournament semifinals after defeating Northeastern State on Friday night (Nov. 3) by a score of 2-0. The RiverHawks finished their season at 6-9-4 overall, while Fort Hays State improved to 13-3-3.The Tiger offense produced two late first half goals after the match started as a defensive stalemate. Fort Hays State was on the attack for a good chunk of the first period but could not get open looks at the net, but on the other side of the field they were not allowing Northeastern any looks either. The Tigers outshot the RiverHawks 7-5 in the opening period, and just one of NSU's shots were on goal.

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-soccer/roster/skylar-forrest/7283">Skylar Forrest</a>&nbsp;put the Tigers on top with a header in the 34'. Forrest went jumping through the air in front of the box to head the pass from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-soccer/roster/sullivan-kelly/7288">Sullivan Kelly</a>. Both Kelly and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-soccer/roster/jersey-garoutte/7603">Jersey Garoutte</a>&nbsp;were credited with the assist. Fort Hays State gained even more control of the match in the 43' off a goal from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-soccer/roster/allison-worley/7605">Allison Worley</a>.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-soccer/roster/reilly-madden/7292">Reilly Madden</a>&nbsp;put a shot on goal that was deflected right back into Worley's path who was at the right spot at the right time to make it a 2-0 game.

The Tigers then shifted their focus to playing stout defense to preserve the lead. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Fort Hays State volleyball team saw its winning steak come to an end Friday evening (Nov. 3), with the Tigers falling to Missouri Western in four sets, 21-25, 26-24, 13-25, 23-25. Fort Hays State (11-15, 5-12 MIAA) rallied from a first set defeat to take the second frame, but the Griffons (19-7, 12-5) took control the rest of the way.

Missouri Western built a seven-point lead early in the first set, 13-6, before the Tigers went on a 10-3 run to tie things up at 16. FHSU eventually took the lead at 18-17 and led as late as 20-19, but MWSU recovered to score six of the final seven points to secure a 25-21 win.

The Griffons led by four midway through the second set before the Tigers rallied to jump in front, with FHSU scoring five in a row to go up 21-19. FHSU later led by three, 23-20, before the home team scored four in a row to reach set point. FHSU scored one point down 24-22 to prolong the match, but a block on the final point sealed the win for the Griffons.

Before the match, The Tigers commemorated five seniors for their hard work and dedication to the Tigers program. The seniors included defensive starters Inigo Jimenez and Chris Rios-Cruz, along with Anders Sandsto, Christian Gonzalez, and Tyler Lockhart. &nbsp;

The initial half of the game was characterized by strong defensive performances from both teams, with neither side managing to find the back of the net. Both goalkeepers, Andrej Krivokapic for the Crimson Storm and Ben Dixon&nbsp;for the Tigers, made impressive saves to maintain their respective teams' parity.

As the match entered the second half, the anticipation continued to build. In the 55th minute, the Tigers were awarded a crucial penalty kick from a handball, which was expertly executed by Blake Arndt, granting them a pivotal lead. The Tigers weren't content with just one goal. ⚽ Tiger men victorious on Senior Night

Kansas just knocked off its highest-ranked opponent in 15 years, became bowl-eligible a second straight year for only the second time in program history and is in a fifth&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-football-poll">AP Top 25</a>&nbsp;over two seasons after not appearing in the rankings since 2009.

The No. 22 Jayhawks would add another item to third-year coach Lance Leipold's resume if they beat Iowa State on the road Saturday night. It would mark the first time they've won consecutive Big 12 games since 2008.

“We need to play better after some of these big wins,” Leipold said. “We have an opportunity where you have to go on the road, play a first-place team. A lot of things are in front of us down the stretch here. Are we just satisfied with bowl eligibility or do we want to be a team that continues to take steps?”

Kansas (6-2, 3-2 Big 12) is coming off its&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/sports/oklahoma-sooners-college-football-kansas-jayhawks-0b89980c99565c31351703450154353b">38-33 win</a>&nbsp;over then-No. 6 Oklahoma, its first against the Sooners since 1997.

Iowa State (5-3, 4-1), picked to finish 10th in the Big 12 in the preseason media poll, has won three straight and sits in a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/baylor-bears-iowa-state-cyclones-bf400a85213db362bd8fea4ce0d13338">five-way tie for first place</a>. The Cyclones will be going for a fourth win in a row for the first time since 2020, when they reached the Big 12 championship game.

Iowa State coach Matt Campbell said his team has had a steely resolve since last spring, a reference to a state investigation into&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/iowa-state-gambling-deshawn-hanika-08332b3d982f302e8fb5ee1b1c2feae0">illegal sports wagering</a>&nbsp;by college athletes that resulted in the suspensions of five projected starters.

“Our program has really been its best when we’ve just worried about what’s going on here and now,” Campbell said. “The whole thing with this group, I think it’s already passed that test in a way, because I think people wrote them off probably in May and they’ve had the ability to just worry about the process that it takes to be successful.”

Leipold provided no clarity to KU's quarterback situation earlier this week. Jason Bean has started the past four games and six of the eight in place of Jalon Daniels, who has had a back injury. Leipold said Daniels, who dressed for the Oklahoma game but didn't play, would be the starter if he's healthy.

One of Iowa State's priorities will be to keep the Kansas quarterback in check in the run game. Excluding sacks, Bean averages 7.2 yards per carry and Daniels 6.5.

The Cyclones already have faced three of the top five rushing quarterbacks in the Big 12 in Cincinnati's Emory Jones, TCU's Chandler Morris and Oklahoma's Dillon Gabriel. Jones netted the most yards, 72 on 15 carries.

“The only thing that's beneficial is we've played some mobile quarterbacks already this year,” Campbell said, “and you've got to hang your hat on some of that.”

Kansas' Devin Neal and Daniel Hishaw are the top running back tandem in the Power Five with a combined 1,259 yards. Neal has 786 yards and seven touchdowns on 115 attempts and Hishaw has 488 yards and eight touchdowns on 80 carries.

The Cyclones are plus-seven in turnover margin through eight games. They have just seven giveaways, including just one lost fumble. They were minus-seven in 2022.

“Maybe No. 1 when we came back (after last season) is, 'How do we get ourselves back on the right side of the turnover margin?' The margin really does say you’re invested in the team — your willingness to take care of the football and doing everything in our power to go get the football," Campbell said.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — One of the primary things Texas coach Steve Sarkisian wants in a punt returner is courage.

<a href="https://texassports.com/sports/football/roster/xavier-worthy/12556">Xavier Worthy</a>&nbsp;admits he was not always brave enough to handle the job. He has no fear anymore.

Worthy, already one of the most dynamic wide receivers in the country, has turned into arguably the Big 12's most explosive punt returner heading into the home stretch of the season. He leads the league in total punt return yardage and scored his first career touchdown return last week&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/byu-texas-murphy-slovis-big-12-cdcec8aa11cb09c8cf9db2ed00cad99f">against BYU</a>.

That makes him just another new headache for No. 25 Kansas State (6-2, 4-1) when the Wildcats face the No. 7 Longhorns (7-1, 4-1, No 7 CFP) in a key Big 12 showdown on Saturday. Five teams are&nbsp;<a href="https://big12sports.com/standings.aspx?path=football">tied for first</a>&nbsp;in the league and the winner emerges with an inside track to conference championship game.

“Basically you've just got to be fearless back there. I ain't gonna lie, it's a scary job,” Worthy said of fielding punts amid the oncoming rush of tacklers.

Worthy said he was “too scared” to do it in high school in Fresno, California. He wasn't given a choice in college.

“Coach just told me ‘you’re on punt return,'” Worthy said.

Texas saw in him the speed, shifty moves and excellent hands to excel as a kick returner. He has been the Longhorns' primary punt returner for two seasons, but never broke free to the end zone until last week.

“You have to be able to catch the ball. I know that sounds simple, but a lot of times in high school they just don't get the punt like punters in college and pro ... They are end over end or rolling on the ground,” Sarkisian said. “You have to be able to (catch) it when people are running at you.”

A good returner also needs “natural instincts and feel,” Sarkisian said.

Worthy's 25 career touchdown receptions already rank third in school history. The junior's big-play ability in the return game is now a new threat for Kansas State coach Chris Klieman, who said the Longhorns are already the best Texas team he's faced in five years.

Worthy's touchdown against BYU was the first Texas punt return for a score since 2018 — against Kansas State.

“I don’t see any weakness on either side of the ball," Klieman said, "or special teams.”

With all the firepower in the two offenses, there is a chance the Longhorns and Wildcats stage a defensive struggle. Kansas State has allowed no touchdowns over the last nine quarters and won its last two games by a combined scored of 82-6. Texas has two games when it allowed only one touchdown and two more when it allowed none.

“We’re playing at an elite level, which is what we’ve been trying to achieve the whole year,” Wildcats defensive end Nate Matlack said. “It feels good to be playing at this level, shutting guys out or holding them to one score. That’s the goal.”

Texas sometimes struggles to score touchdowns near the goal line. Texas twice got stuffed in short yardage on fourth down against BYU, the same problem that flared in a tight loss to Oklahoma. The Longhorns were just 2 of 5 converting “red zone” drives into touchdowns against BYU.

Texas will again start Maalik Murphy for Quinn Ewers (shoulder sprain) at quarterback. Murphy was solid if unspectacular in his first career start against BYU with 16-of-25 passing for 170 yards and two touchdowns. He also had two first half turnovers. Freshman Arch Manning remains the top backup.

Kansas State has been using a rotation of veteran Will Howard and freshman Avery Johnson at quarterback. Howard is the veteran in coordinator Collin Klein's offense and would be a steady hand amid a hostile crowd with the lead in the Big 12 at stake. Howard brings a burst of speed the Longhorns rarely see at quarterback. He ran for five touchdowns against Texas Tech earlier this season.

INDIANAPOLIS – Fort Hays State Women's Soccer is ranked No. 6 in the second edition of the NCAA Central Region Rankings, released on Wednesday (Nov. 1). This is the first release with rankings assigned to the teams as the top 10 teams under consideration were listed last week alphabetically. The list of 10 teams can change week-to-week as future results affect the formulas used to produce region rankings.

Fort Hays State is in good shape at this point, sitting at 11-3-3 overall. The FHSU win over Southwestern College is removed from its record for region ranking purposes since results against NAIA or other NCAA level teams are not figured into the formula.

According to the report for the Central Region located at the bottom of the region rankings page on NCAA.com, Fort Hays State has the sixth-best In-Region RPI and seventh-best Division II Performance Indicator value in the Central Region. Washburn owns the highest In-Region RPI and St. Cloud is No. 2 in RPI, which reflects where each sit in the region rankings. Fort Hays State is seeking back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history, with previous appearances in 2012, 2016, and 2022.

Eight teams from the Central Region will be selected to compete in the Central Regional of the NCAA Tournament following the conclusion of conference tournaments. The region consists of teams from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, and Great American Conference. Champions from each of the three conference tournaments within the region will receive automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament.

The MIAA and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) each have five teams listed in the first release. Though the Great American Conference (GAC) does not have a school in the list of 10 right now, one of its members will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by virtue of winning their conference tournament. Fort Hays State is 2-3-2 against the teams currently listed among the 10 in the region rankings.

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Fort Hays State Men's Basketball team got their 2023-24 season underway on Wednesday night with an exhibition game against the University of Kansas.

The Kansas Jayhawks opened the game with a quick 6-0 run, attacking the paint with Hunter Dickinson. Dickinson recorded nine of Kansas' first 11 points. The Tigers waited just over two minutes for their first bucket coming by way of a Kaleb Hammeke&nbsp;layup. Bjarni Jonsson&nbsp;followed moments later with a layup to make the score 6-4, but that's as close as the Tigers would get to the preseason No. 1 overall team in the country.&nbsp;&nbsp;

KU rattled off a 6-0 scoring run heading into the second media timeout of the night, leading the Tigers 19-8 with 11:57 left in the first half. Fort Hays State not only worked to remove the lid off the basket, but also had to fight against foul trouble through the first 20 minutes of play. Fort Hays State shot 8-of-30 from the field and was charged with 13 personal fouls in the first frame. The Tigers caught a burst of life off their lone first half 3-pointer from Traejon Davis, making it a 37-21 game with 2:39 left before the break and forcing KU into a timeout. Lucas Hammake was able to beat his man off the dribble and score a tough runner in traffic to close out the half, trailing 43-23.

The Tigers scored the first four points of the second half but the slight momentum that was built was quickly erased by Kevin McCullar Jr. who had eight points in just 11 minutes in the second half.

The run of the night for the Fort Hays State offense took place late in the second half when the Tigers rattled off 10 unanswered points in a two-minute span, trimming the Kansas lead to 18 points. The scoring spurt included five straight points from Elijah Nnanabu, a made jumper by Shaun Riley, and a Jaheim Holdon&nbsp;three-pointer.

Fort Hays State shot far better in the second half from behind the three-point line at 50 percent, going 6-for-12 from deep. The Tigers had six different players net a three including Nnanabu who knocked down two threes and led FHSU in scoring with 14 points. Traejon Davis&nbsp;added nine points, while Kaleb Hammeke&nbsp;finished with eight.

McCullar Jr. led the scoring attack for the Jayhawks with 21 points, drilling four shots from beyond the arc. Hunter Dickinson and KJ Adams Jr. also finished in double figures with 14 and 17 points respectively.

The Tigers are set to open regular season play with a pair of neutral site game against Southwestern Oklahoma State on Friday, Nov. 10 and Arkansas Tech on Saturday, Nov. 11.

🏀 Tigers battle No. 1 Kansas to the end

The Big 12 on Wednesday released four years of&nbsp;<a href="https://big12sports.com/documents/2023/11/1//FB_Matrix_24_27.pdf">football opponents</a>&nbsp;for its newly expanded 16-team conference, including a yearly BYU-Utah game and an emphasis on other in-state rivalries.

The Big 12 adds Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah from the Pac-12 in 2024 while saying goodbye to Oklahoma and Texas. The Sooners and Longhorns are joining the Southeastern Conference.

“As we look towards the future of this Conference, we are thrilled to introduce the first football scheduling matrix for the new-look Big 12," Commissioner Brett Yormark said in a statement. "In this model, competitive balance and student-athlete wellness was prioritized. Rivalries will be protected and new matchups will be introduced — the excitement and parity this Conference is known for will continue for years to come.”

Big 12 teams will play nine conference games per season and every member will play at least one home-and-home with the other 15 schools over the next four years. Dates of games will be released later.

The BYU-Utah rivalry is one of the most intense in college football, but the two have not competed in the same conference since they both left the Mountain West in 2011. The Cougars and Utes have played nine times since, though not this season — BYU's first as a member of the Big 12 after being a football independent.

Next year's BYU-Utah game is scheduled to be played in Salt Lake City. The rest of Utah's home schedule includes Arizona, TCU and Iowa State.

The other annual protected rivalries in the Big 12 will be Kansas-Kansas State, Baylor-TCU and Arizona-Arizona State.

Colorado's return to the Big 12 will be marked by home games against Utah, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Kansas State and Cincinnati. The Buffaloes were an original member of the Big 12 but left for the Pac-12 in 2011. CU announced its return to the conference this past summer in a move that helped trigger the demise of the Pac-12.

Arizona's 2024 schedule includes home games against Arizona State, Colorado, Houston, Texas Tech and West Virginia.

🏈 Big 12 releases 4 years of football opponents for 16-team conference

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State had 10 players named to the All-MIAA Women's Soccer Team for 2023 on Wednesday (Nov. 1). The Tigers had one first-team, three second-team, two third-team, and four honorable mention selections. The list of honorees included Emily Hutchings, Reilly Madden, Sullivan Kelly, Allison Worley, Isabel Robben, Ryan McCabe, Hannah Mares, Montserrat Diaz, Kintzli Wagner, and Megan Wiman. The All-MIAA Team is voted on by head coaches of each MIAA school. Coaches cannot vote for their own players.

Earning first-team honors at defender was Emily Hutchings. She is now a three-time All-MIAA selection. Hutchings made the transition to defender this year after already garnering all-conference honors twice as a midfielder. She played all but seven possible minutes in the regular season and notched one assist, helping the Tigers hold opponents to a 0.61 goals against average. She has helped the Tigers to 31 wins over the last three seasons.

Reilly Madden is now a four-time All-MIAA selection, receiving second-team honors this year at defender. She is the most decorated player in program history, now with four All-MIAA honors, an all-region selection, and an All-MIAA Tournament honor. Madden continues to be the anchor of the Tiger defense, which recorded 11 shutouts in the regular season. From her center back position, Madden has now helped the Tigers to 31 shutouts over the last three seasons. She played all but nine minutes of the regular season. Madden also notched four points in the regular season with a game-winning goal and two assists. She has been part of 41 wins for the program since 2019.

Sullivan Kelly picked up her second career All-MIAA selection, honored on the second team at midfielder this season. She tied for the MIAA lead in regular season assists with seven, while also scoring three goals for a total of 13 points. All three of her goals were game-winning goals, helping the Tigers to a 12-win regular season, which is their most wins a regular season since 2016.

Allison Worley joined the party on the second team at forward. The first-year transfer scored seven goals in the regular season, which ranked seventh in the conference. Her 14 points sat 10th in the conference in the regular season. All of her goals were in separate contests and she had two game winners in the regular season.

Isabel Robben is now a two-time All-MIAA selection, earning third-team honors at goalkeeper this year. Robben led the MIAA in regular season shutouts with 11, which also ties the FHSU single-season record for individual shutouts she already shares with Abbie Flax and Kristen Thompson. Robben now has 22 career shutouts, which is a school record as well. She had a 0.61 goals against average in the regular season and made 49 saves. Robben is one of three players nationally to play all 1,620 minutes possible in goal during the regular season, joining Rebecca Partyka of Northeastern State and Bailey Daugherty of Delta State.

Ryan McCabe nabbed her second All-MIAA selection as a midfielder with third-team honors this season. She logged 1,369 minutes during the regular season and recorded one assist. She played at least 70 minutes in all but four matches during the regular season.

Hannah Mares is now a two-time All-MIAA selection, receiving an honorable mention pick this year. Mares led the Tigers in goals (8) and points (16) in the regular season. She ranked sixth in the MIAA in goals scored and points. A highlight of her season was tying the school record for goals in a match with a hat trick against Southwestern College. She netted three goals during the course of MIAA play and both of her game-winning goals were against MIAA opponents. Mares owns the best shot accuracy in NCAA Division II so far this season with a .771 shots on goal percentage (27-of-35).

Montserrat Diaz picked up her first All-MIAA honor with an honorable mention pick at forward. She had a total of 10 points in the regular season with four goals and two assists. She had a pair of game-winning goals in the regular season and two of her goals were against Emporia State, helping the Tigers to a 1-0-1 record against the Hornets to win the tiebreak for the No. 3 seed in the MIAA Tournament.

Kintzli Wagner earned her first All-MIAA nod in her first year with the Tigers after transferring from Northwest Missouri State. She recorded three assists in the regular season, while logging 894 minutes in the midfield. All of her assists came in shutout wins for the Tigers.

Megan Wiman also earned her first All-MIAA selection at defender. She played all but 29 minutes of the regular season, going the distance in all but two matches to help the Tigers to 12 wins and third-place finish in the MIAA.
