Luana Lillia Moran, 76, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2024, at her home.

Luana was born September 29, 1947, in Winfield, Kansas, the daughter of Donald Eugene and Orietta I. (Blanchette) Patchen. She was a resident of Rush County, Kansas, since 1998 moving there from California. A 1965 graduate of Mater Dei High School, Santa Anna, California, she was a dispatcher for the Rush County Sheriff’s Department for six years before her retirement. She was also employed at Casey’s General Store in La Crosse, Kansas, before her retirement.

Luana adored her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them and attending as many of their events as she could. She also enjoyed crafting.

Survivors include: two sons, Robert Mitchell (Laurie), Bison, Kansas, and Erik Mitchell (Kerri), La Crosse, Kansas; 15 grandchildren, Nicholas Mitchell, Kelsey Monahan, Ceciley MacDonald, Lacey Mitchell, Hunter Mitchell, Chase Mitchell, Christopher Mitchell, Destiny Mitchell, Taliyah Mitchell, Reese Mitchell, Isabella Mitchell, Michael Mitchell, McKenna Morss, Madison Mitchell, and Marlee Mitchell; 11 great grandchildren; one sister, Dona Herzig, Pahrump, Nevada; and her companion, Scott Romo, Great Bend, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph Moran; and a great grandson, Lucas Monahan.

Visitation will be Monday, February 26, 2024, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas.

Memorial service will be Monday, February 26, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with Pastor Terry Warner officiating.

Leona Josephine (Koerperich) Rogers, age 89, passed away on February 16 at Meadowlark Hills Bramlage House.

She was born in Hays, Kansas in 1934 to Bernard and Helen (Jaster) Koerperich, the second of 8 children. She was raised on a farm outside of Selden, Kansas, and attended Selden schools, graduating from Selden High School as Valedictorian of her class.

Leona met the love of her life, Gerald, at a local dance, and they were married on September 30, 1952. Their marriage was blessed with five children: Sherry Watts of Manhattan, KS (Harry), Geralyn Parker, Goodland, KS (Lauren), Joe Rogers, Davison, MI (Stephanie), Scott Rogers, Larned, KS (Julie) and Tami Carlgren, Newton, KS (Randy).Leona’s favorite role was being Grandma to her 12 grandchildren, Tony Parker (Amy), Fr. Nick Parker, Jillian Korte (Drew), Stuart Watts (Sam), Diana Watts, Conrad Rogers (Michelle), Jennifer Rogers, Hunter Rogers (Shazia), Melanie Morrison (Camerron), Meredith Peterson (Johnathan), Joshua Carlgren (Kenzie), and Hannah Scheetz (Mason). She loved shopping for presents for them, cooking their favorite foods, and simply spending time together. She was delighted when they blessed her with nine great-grandchildren, and more on the way.

Leona was a very smart woman and took great pride in the work she did outside the home, particularly working at Koerperich Bookbinders in Selden and as the Shipping Supervisor for over 20 years at Scott Specialties in Belleville, KS.

Leona was a faithful member of the Catholic Church. She began playing the organ for services as a teenager and held many roles in the church throughout her life. She was an active and devoted member of the Legion of Mary and led the rosary at a local retirement community. Leona served as a Hospice Volunteer for a number of years, always sharing her faith and caring for others. This was an example and blessing she passed on to her family.

Leona will always be remembered for her incredible baking and cooking skills and unfailing devotion to her family and her faith. We could not have asked for a better mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, and her memory will live on in all the hearts of those who loved her.

Leona was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years (Gerald), her parents (Bernard and Helen), and her brother, Richard. She is survived by her six siblings, 5 children and spouses, 12 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m., with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby, KS. Funeral Mass is at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Selden, KS with interment at the Selden Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Boyd Lynn Berry, age 77, passed away Friday, February 16 in Atwood, Kansas.

He was born in Colby on October 30, 1946, to Duane and Twila Berry, the first of four children. He started elementary school in Colby and later moved to northern California. He finished high school in Gem, Kansas, then returned back to California to be near his family.

Boyd worked at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard (Naval Base) for a few years then took a job closer to home driving for Van Camp Propane Company, near Oakley, Calif. In 1969 he married Sally Frederick and they moved to San Leandro, CA. Later, they moved to Colby, KS and he worked for the City of Colby.

Boyd had several hobbies, but boats, motorcycles, fishing, planes and flying were among his favorites. He could tell you just about everything about any of them. If he didn't know it, he studied it. He loved fishing and won many fishing contests throughout California, Kansas, and Nebraska. He taught many kids how to waterski, drive a boat or fish.

His passion for flying started when he was young as well. While living in Colby he bought a twin-engine plane and received his pilot's license. He and Sally spent a lot of time at the Colby Airport and she had even considered getting her license as well.

Boyd and Sally were married nine years before they parted. The Fredericks have continued to remain his family.

Boyd worked with his father, Duane Berry, with Berry Construction in Colby in the mid 70's. Later, along with some of the other family members, Boyd moved to Trenton, Nebraska where he and his father continued to work in construction.

However, later, Boyd bought a truck and became an independent driver delivering mail for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement. He then became a seasonal game and parks worker for the Harry Strunk Lake near Cambridge, Nebraska.In 2016, he relocated to Madison, Kansas to live closer to his family.

Boyd is survived by his brother Randy Berry of Trenton Nebraska and his sister Sheila Jones of Madison, Kansas; nephews and nieces, Shane, Matt and Danielle Jones (Nortier), Shonette and John Daniels, Aaron, Adrienne (Baumfalk), Brian and Elaine Berry and Wade Bryant; mother-in-law Millie Frederick, brothers-in-law, Mike, Jeff and Bubba Frederick, sisters-in-law, Nancy and Merlynne Frederick (Parker); and Sally Sparks.

He was prrceded in death by his parents Duane and Twila Berry; sister Loretta Bryant; nephew Jarod Berry; grandparents Clement and Neva Berry and Charlie and Mildred Carpenter.His family and friends will miss him dearly.<a>Read Less</a>

Roger Wayne Carlson, 79, of Atwood, died Sunday, February 18, 2024, at the Rawlins County Health Center. He was born May 23, 1944, in Stratton, NE, to Willis and Effie (Hay) Carlson. Roger graduated from Trenton High School. He then worked at the Atwood COOP service station where he became the manager until 1974. He moved his family to a farm north of Atwood in late 1974. Roger loved the farming life and continued to farm until 2019. Roger served on the COOP elevator board and the County Conservation District Board.

In 1964 he married Verjean Horinek. From this union, his children were Dean, Dennis, Becky, and Tyler. In 2001, Roger married Melinda (Tucker) Bell. From this union, Melinda’s children Gwen, Sarah and Susan enhanced the family.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and brother Lanny. Survivors include his wife Melinda of the home in Atwood; children, Dean Carlson of Rogersville, MO, Dennis and Stephanie Carlson of Haven, KS, Becky Chvatal of Atwood, Tyler and Tonya Carlson of Sheridan, WY, Gwen and Greg Jones of Atwood, Sarah and Mike Thompson of Binghamton, NY, and Susan and Eric Flavin from Camolin County, Wexford, Ireland. Donna Marie Campbell, 76, died on February 12, 2024, at Smith Center Health and Rehab. She was born August 15, 1947, In Smith Center, the daughter of Esbon and Gertrude Widener.

Donna spent her childhood in the Gretna area on a farm. She attended school in Smith Center. She graduated from Agra High School in 1966. She then married George Campbell on May 30, 1966; and to this union two children were born.

She loved her family and grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved working as a Certified Nursing Assistant up until the time she was forced to retire due to health. But even the last four years spent in the nursing home she wanted to help with the other residents.

She was preceded in death by her ex-husband George Campbell, her parents, a stepmother Mary Widener, a brother Roy E. Widener, a sister Maxine Duncan, a sister-in-law Sheila Widener, a brother-in-law Loren Lyons, two half-brothers Edwin Miller and Robert Miller and a half sister Patsy Miller.

Survivors include daughter Sherry Linneman (Chris Linneman) of Smith Center, a son Jay Campbell (Jennifer Campbell) of Arkansas City, KS. Grandchildren: RoseMarie C. Hanna Sam Hanna) of Ponca City, OK.; Joshua A. Donna Marie Campbell

Ronald Eric Wallgren was born in Logan, KS to Lloyd and Betty (Damewood) Wallgren on August 29, 1958. &nbsp;He passed away on January 30, 2024 in Hays, KS at the age of 65 after a lengthy illness with cancer.

Ron grew up and attended Logan Schools graduating in the class of 1976.

He had a gentle voice and a kind heart that made everyone feel loved and cared for. &nbsp;He cherished his children, grandchildren, and all his relatives and friends. &nbsp;He was also a friend to animals, who sensed his compassion and warmth. &nbsp;He lived with joy and optimism, and never let the troubles of life get him down. &nbsp;He was a valued and respected employee at O’Reilly Auto Parts, where he worked for several years. &nbsp;He always greeted people with a smile and a friendly word. &nbsp;He was a wonderful man who left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Ron is survived by his four children: Kirk Riggs and Fiancé Danielle Dolphin of Tulsa OK, &nbsp;Sara Wallgren and significant other Clinton Lee of Plainville KS, Bryson Collins and Treyvon Wallgren both of Hays, KS; partner Marissa Collins of Hays, KS; &nbsp;two grandchildren Jackson Bo Lee and Myleigh Elizabeth-Rose Lee; brother Randall (Rod) Wallgren of Wichita KS; sister in-law Janeen Wallgren of Phillipsburg KS, a niece; nephews; &nbsp;and three very special friends Melody Collins, Chloe Willigham, and Chris Willigham all of Hays Ks; along with &nbsp;many other &nbsp;friends.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Betty and a brother Lynn.

Cremation was planned. &nbsp;Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2024 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.

 </figure>Ronald Eric Wallgren was born in Logan, KS to Lloyd and Betty (Damewood) Wallgren on August 29, 1958. &nbsp;He passed away on January 30, 2024 in Hays, KS at the age of 65 after a lengthy illness with cancer.Ron grew up and attended Logan Schools graduating in the class of 1976.He had a gentle voice and a kind heart that made everyone feel loved and cared for. &nbsp;He cherished his children, grandchildren, and all his relatives and friends. &nbsp;He was also a friend to animals, who sensed his compassion and warmth. &nbsp;He lived with joy and optimism, and never let the troubles of life get him down. &nbsp;He was a valued and respected employee at O’Reilly Auto Parts, where he worked for several years. &nbsp;He always greeted people with a smile and a friendly word. &nbsp;He was a wonderful man who left a lasting impression on everyone he met.Ron is survived by his four children: Kirk Riggs and Fiancé Danielle Dolphin of Tulsa OK, &nbsp;Sara Wallgren and significant other Clinton Lee of Plainville KS, Bryson Collins and Treyvon Wallgren both of Hays, KS; partner Marissa Collins of Hays, KS; &nbsp;two grandchildren Jackson Bo Lee and Myleigh Elizabeth-Rose Lee; brother Randall (Rod) Wallgren of Wichita KS; sister in-law Janeen Wallgren of Phillipsburg KS, a niece; nephews; &nbsp;and three very special friends Melody Collins, Chloe Willigham, and Chris Willigham all of Hays Ks; along with &nbsp;many other &nbsp;friends.&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Betty and a brother Lynn.Cremation was planned. &nbsp;Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2024 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald Wallgren memorial fund.

Douglas L. Uehling passed away on February 16, 2024, at the Colonial Villa in Alma, Nebraska, at the age of 80.

Doug was born on August 22, 1943, in Oakland, Nebraska, to his parents Orville and Arwilda (Lowe) Uehling.

Doug was united in marriage to Marcia (Dake) Uehling on June 14, 1969, in Orleans, Nebraska.

He is preceded in death by his parents Orville and Arwilda Uehling, son Curtis Uehling, brother Stephen Uehling, parents-in-law Clarence and Viola Dake, and brothers-in-law Nolan and Vance Dake.

Survivors include his wife Marcia Uehling of Orleans, Nebraska, son Keith Uehling of Overland Park, Kansas, brother Russell Uehling and wife Joyce, brother-in-law Blaine Dake and wife Lana, and sister-in-law Connie Dake.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at the Almena Bible Church in Almena, Kansas, with Pastor Ron Martin officiating.

Surrounded by family, Herbert Rudolf Schritter passed from this life on February 18th, 2024 at Citizens Medical Center in Colby, Kansas.

Herbert was born April 8th, 1935 in rural Cheyenne County. He went to country school before attending Kanorado High School, where he met Carolyn, his wife of 66 years. Herbert and Carolyn were married Christmas Eve of 1954 in California before Herbert deployed overseas to serve in the Army. Herbert proudly served his country in the Army from 1954-1956 and in the Reserves from 1956-1962. Herbert was awarded the Army Occupation Medal (Germany) and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the VFW in Goodland.

After his time in the Army, Herbert began his lifelong stewardship of farming. He and Carolyn welcomed their first child, Evelyn, in 1957, their son, Neil, in 1958, and their youngest daughter, Diane, in 1960. He lived on his farm in Kanorado with his family until 2014, when his wife was admitted to Prairie Senior Living Complex. Herbert lived in Colby to be near to Carolyn, whom he visited daily. After four years, Herbert’s declining health resulted in his placement in the nursing home as well. Herbert and Carolyn spent their final years together again.

Herbert took pride in his work and family. Every year, the family came together to butcher meat for the year. It was always a cherished time which became a tradition that has spanned generations. Family gatherings were never short of love, laughter, or food, and always ended around the table playing cards. Herbert loved playing cards and taught his children and all his grandchildren to play four-point-pitch. No holiday is complete without a few games of pitch. Herbert also enjoyed woodworking, hunting, and fishing.

Herbert and Carolyn were blessed with a large family. Herbert is survived by his children, Evelyn (Don) Martin of Colby, Neil Schritter of Kanorado, and Diane (Tim) Leffler of Oberlin; grandchildren Chad Mann (Nicole) of Kanorado, Erica (Travis) Lehman of Washington, KS, Aaron (Missy) Mann of Brewster, Sara (Brenton) Kirkhart of Colby, Melissa Schritter (Nate) of Goodland, Chris Schritter (Sydney) of Brewster, Michael (Kristy) Karnes of Colby, Jessica Karnes of Almena, and Amy Kier of Norton; 24 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, with 3 more great-great-grandchildren due in the coming months; sister Gertrude Swayne, sister-in-law Carolee Schritter, brother-in-law Larry McClung, brother-in-law Bill (Shauna) Richardson, sister-in-law Marsha Brachtenbach, brother-in-law Dave Poss; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Herbert is joyfully welcomed to heaven by his beloved wife, Carolyn (Richardson) Schritter; parents Rudolf and Christina (Lippert) Schritter, infant sister Evelyn, parents-in-law Delbert and Inez (Fairbanks) Richardson, and stepfather-in-law Addison Long; brother Albert Schritter, sister Vivan McClung, brother-in-law Ted Swayne, sister-in-law Nadyne Poss, brother-in-law Tony Richardson, a stillborn sibling-in-law; a grandson-in-law Chad Kier and a nephew Mark Swayne.

Donald (Don) Duane Gilbert passed away peacefully on December 21, 2023. &nbsp;He was born in Goodland, Kansas on May 2, 1942 to Marvin and Naomi (McClung) Gilbert. &nbsp;

He grew up on a farm south of Kanorado. &nbsp;He was a1960 Burlington High School graduate. &nbsp;After High School, he graduated from the Northwest Kansas Area Vocational Technical School Drafting Program. &nbsp;On August 9, 1964 he married Judy Peters. They had two daughters, Donita and Darcy. He worked on the family farm while attending Drafting School.

The family moved to Denver, Colorado where he worked for a short time before settling in Castle Rock, Colorado. &nbsp;He eventually opened his own drafting business in Franktown, Colorado, where he worked for many years designing custom homes.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Judy, daughter Darcy and grandson Matthew. &nbsp;He is survived by his brother Dan and his daughter Donita, 2 granddaughters Ashley and Teighlor as well as one great grandson Bryson.

He was a member of the Methodist Church in Castle Rock and a member of the Franktown Colorado Chamber of Commerce. &nbsp;He enjoyed bowling league, stock car racing, fishing, woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 11:30am at the Goodland Cemetery, Goodland, KS.

Candace Amack, beloved daughter, sister, mother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on February 15, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on June 18, 1981, in Goodland, Kansas. Candace will always be remembered for her kind spirit and the love she shared with everyone around her.

Candace graduated from Goodland High School in 2000 and went on to achieve one of her proudest accomplishments - raising her children Destiny and Alexis. Her dedication to her family was unwavering, and her love knew no bounds

She leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.&nbsp;

Candace is survived by her mother Lisa Malsom (Dennis) of Goodland, Kansas, father Glenn Amack of Trenton Nebraska, sisters Crystal Amack and Cassandra (Fred) Britt, as well as her dear children Destiny and Alexis.

Visitation will be held at the Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. There will be a balloon release following viewing at the funeral home.

Debra Lynn Hadley of Dighton, Kansas passed away February 16, 2024 at Lane County Hospital Dighton, Kansas after a sudden illness.

Debra (Debbie) Hadley was born November 1, 1958 in Fairfield, Iowa, the daughter of John A. and M. Eloise (Barnett) Hadley of Richland, Iowa. She attended Richland grade school and graduated from Pekin High School. She furthered her education at Barclay College (Friends Bible College) in Haviland, Kansas and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a double major and later did post graduate studies. Debra, “Ms. Hadley” began and ended her teaching career of thirty-seven years in the Dighton Community School District and was inducted twice into Who Who’s of American Teachers. Ms. Hadley was passionate about teaching and strived to develop and encouraged her students to love learning. She had many hobbies; painting, reading and writing, cake decorating, graphology, chess, and analyzing TV shows with family and friends, and other hobbies encouraged by her students. Aunt Debbie thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews when she visited family in Iowa. Former students, her nieces and nephews were well aware Ms. Hadley/ Aunt Debbie was the queen of confetti and the game - Connect Four.

Debra is survived by brothers: Mike (Pam) Hadley of Richland, Iowa, Jim (Silvia) Hadley of Richland, Iowa, Daniel (Brenda) Hadley of Milford, Iowa and Joe (Kerry) Hadley of Richland, Iowa. Carolyn M. “Kay” Anderson, 91, died Monday, February 19, 2024, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin, Kansas. She was born May 8, 1932, in Lakin, Kansas, the daughter of Virgil LeRoy &amp; Edith May (Barber) Hubbard.

Kay has lived most of her life in Lakin. She attended Lakin schools and graduated from Lakin High School in 1950. On March 20, 1953, she married Ralph R. Anderson in Las Vegas, New Mexico. A homemaker, Kay was a lifetime member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Lakin. She was also a member of PEO Chapter FQ, the Kearny County Historical Society, and SWKROA. Kay loved to spend her time doing handy work, volunteering at the church, playing Bingo and Sudoku.

Kay is survived by a daughter Sherry &amp; husband George Rapp of Holcomb, KS; a son Mark &amp; wife Suzanne Anderson of Houston, TX; a stepson Ronald &amp; wife Joy Anderson of Jacksonville, FL; a brother Eldon Hubbard of Stockton, MO; one grandson William Rapp of Holcomb, KS; and numerous step-grandchildren, step-greatgrandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Kay is preceded in death by her husband Ralph who died on September 18, 2004. She is also preceded in death by her parents; a stepson Charles Anderson; three brothers Claude Hubbard, Vernon Hubbard, &amp; Lawrence Hubbard; and two sisters Norma Jean Hornbaker and Glenda Amerine.

A private family memorial service will take place at a later date. There will be no calling hours. He was born on August 29, 1939 at Saigon, Viet Nam the son of Phi Van Vo He married Van Thi Tran in Viet Nam.Mr Vo attended high school and college in Viet Nam. He was a high ranking officer in the South Viet Nam Army and worked with the CIA until the war ended in 1975. He was captured by the communists and spent 13 ½ years as a POW until 1987. Upon his release he and his family were eligible for the United States HO Program thru his CIA work and they were relocated to Garden City. He worked in the Processing Department at Tyson until retiring when he was 80. He was Baptized in the Buddhist Temple and his Buddhist name as Peter Vo. He also attended the Vietnamese catholic services. His special interest was helping his people by serving as a translator and doing hospital and homebound visits for over 30 years.

He is survived by his Wife- Van Thi Tran, Daughter- Hanh Thi Hong Vo of Westminster, California, Son- Phuong Hong Vo of Garden City, 1 Sister and 4 Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his Father and 5 Brothers and Sisters.

She was born May 25, 1930 in Larned, the daughter of Herbert R. and Lauretta Deighton Milhouse. &nbsp;A lifetime area resident, she was a music teacher in Pawnee Rock and Larned. &nbsp;&nbsp;

She was a member of the First Christian Church and the church choir. &nbsp;Betty was a charter member of the Sweet Adelines in Larned, loved singing, enjoyed sewing and quilting. She graduated from Fort Hays Kansas State College in 1974 with a Bachelor of Music Degree and she later wrote a book, It’s Fun To Be A Rest, with her daughter, Sherryl.

On August 22, 1947 she married Robert Verne Twitchell at Ottawa, Kansas. &nbsp;He passed away December 24, 2008.

Survivors include: two daughters, Sherryl D. (Isaac) Lemuz, Larned and Rebecca A. (Gene) Hagerman, Goddard; six grandchildren, Anthony Lemuz, Paul Lemuz, Jack Lemuz, Monica Hoffman, Tyson Hagerman and Trent Hagerman and twelve great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Robert J. Twitchell; two brothers, Wayne and Glenn Brown and a sister, Bernadyne Brannon.

Rose, age 93, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas. &nbsp;He was born on September 27, 1930, in Scott City, Kansas, the son of Hubert Coy and Neva Berniece Quance Rose. &nbsp;Delbert was a resident of Logan County, Kansas from 1950 until moving to Scott City, Kansas in 1999. &nbsp;He was a farmer.

He was a member of the United Christian Church in Oakley, Kansas, served on the Logan County Soil Conservation Board for 25 years, the USD 274 Board of Education for 12 years, the Farm Bureau Board, Lee’s Township Board, and was an Observer for the National Weather Service for 50 years.

On April 23, 1950, he married Patricia L. McGuire in Oakley, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;She passed away on October 14, 2004, in Scott City, Kansas.

Mildred Garner (Reynolds) was born December 14, 1938, in Ogallah, KS, to Clarence and Jessie (Carlton) Reynolds. She passed away on February 19, 2024, at the age of 85.

Mildred graduated from Trego Community High School in WaKeeney, KS, in 1956.

On October 13, 1957, she was united in marriage to Gayle Garner in the Ogallah Christian Church, Ogallah, KS. To this union, three children were born. Gayle preceded her in death on July 6, 2010.

Mildred was a member of the Ogallah Christian Church, Ladies Aid of the Ogallah Christian Church, and Friendly Dozen, Ogallah. She was also a member of the Y.M.P. Club, WaKeeney, and served on the board of Trego Senior Center, WaKeeney, and Hays Shooting Stars Square Dance Club, Hays, KS.

Those left to mourn her loss are two daughters, Debra Dykema and husband, Darwin, WaKeeney, KS; Michelle Gieber and friend, Terry Kuchcinski, Manhattan, KS; and a daughter-in-law, Cathy Tidball, WaKeeney, KS. Three grandchildren, Amanda Esslinger and husband Tony, Ridgecrest, CA; D’Anne Dykema and friend David Olivas, WaKeeney, KS; and Devin Lemman and husband Joshua and children, Hays, KS. Four great-grandchildren: Abrienna and Nicholas Esslinger, Ridgecrest, CA; and Jesse and Ava Olivas, WaKeeney, KS.

Her parents, a brother, Jack, a son, Allen, a son-in-law, Doug Gieber, and many relatives and friends preceded her in death.

Mildred enjoyed traveling, the highlights of her vacations were Alaska and Germany. She also enjoyed reading, knitting, and crocheting (a talent she passed on to her children and grandchildren). Mildred's faith in the Lord was very important to her, and it shaped her into a loving spouse, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, as well as a caring friend to many. It is because of her faith that we rejoice, knowing that she is living in the presence of our Lord for all eternity.

Services will be Friday, February 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Ogallah Christian Church, Ogallah, KS, followed by interment in the Ogallah Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney, KS.

She passed away February 20, 2024, at Ascension Living Via Christi Village, Hays, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp; Her parents were James Grover Feary and Nellie (Ferree) Feary.&nbsp; They preceded her in death and are buried at Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie, Oklahoma.&nbsp; Roberta was a devoted member at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Denver Colorado.&nbsp; Monsignor Richard Charles Hiester, a Choral Director, was a friend and mentor during Roberta’s time in Denver.&nbsp; Roberta organized and directed the Denver Centennial Choristers in the 1950s.&nbsp;

Roberta taught both elementary and high school classes in California.&nbsp; She later worked for the Grolier Education Corporation which later became the Scholastic Corporation.&nbsp; Most recently Roberta volunteered as a “Foster Grandparent,” “Grandma Bobbi,” at Roosevelt Elementary School in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; Roberta enjoyed working with children and was loved by many. &nbsp;

She received a Bachelor of Arts in 1952 and a Master of Arts in 1954 from Tulsa University in Oklahoma.&nbsp; Music was one of Roberta’s many talents.&nbsp; She was an accomplished pianist, organist, flutist, cellist, and accompanied Spanish Mass in Denver, Colorado. &nbsp;

Roberta’s favorite hobby was grooming her prize-winning dogs.&nbsp;&nbsp; Her Pomeranians received many awards including “Best of the Breed” at dog shows in various regions from 1978-1998.&nbsp; Other dogs she owned included a German Shepherd, a registered Therapy dog, and one of the last Bell Haven Collies.

Roberta is survived by cousins in Colorado and North Dakota.&nbsp; She will be buried with her parents at Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie Oklahoma.&nbsp; No services are planned.

Maxine Elizabeth Scheck, 86, of Russell, Kansas, died on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society in Ellsworth, Kansas.

Maxine was born on November 13, 1937, in Arma, Kansas, the daughter of John and Yuliet (Nahon) Wyant. She grew up in the Russell and Gorham areas most all her life and graduated from Gorham High School in Gorham, Kansas. She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Melvin Joseph Scheck on August 10, 1955, in Gorham, Kansas. From this union Maxine and Melvin were blessed with 3 sons Charles, Kenneth and Christopher. She worked for J.C. Penny’s and Wards as a salesperson and worked as a meat cutter at Safeway. She was a longtime member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell and a member of the church woman’s auxiliary and Russell County voting organization. She enjoyed baking, camping, fishing and watch NFL Football, cheering on her Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and especially enjoyed be active in her grandchildren’s lives.

Maxine is survived by her two sons Kenneth J. Scheck and wife Stephanie of Russell, Kansas and Christopher J. Scheck of Topeka, Kansas; three sisters Freda Taylor of El Dorado, Kansas, Beverly LaFlair and husband Howard of Arizona and Paula Crites of Ellsworth, Kansas; 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Melvin J. Scheck on August 25, 2015, and son Charles A. Scheck.

A celebration of the funeral mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell, Kansas. Burial will follow at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Russell. From this union Maxine and Melvin were blessed with 3 sons Charles, Kenneth and Christopher. She worked for J.C. Penny’s and Wards as a salesperson and worked as a meat cutter at Safeway. She was a longtime member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell and a member of the church woman’s auxiliary and Russell County voting organization. She enjoyed baking, camping, fishing and watch NFL Football, cheering on her Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and especially enjoyed be active in her grandchildren’s lives.Maxine is survived by her two sons Kenneth J. Scheck and wife Stephanie of Russell, Kansas and Christopher J. Scheck of Topeka, Kansas; three sisters Freda Taylor of El Dorado, Kansas, Beverly LaFlair and husband Howard of Arizona and Paula Crites of Ellsworth, Kansas; 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Melvin J. Scheck on August 25, 2015, and son Charles A. Scheck.A celebration of the funeral mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell, Kansas. Anna Selenke, 101, of Oakley, died Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the Logan County Senior Living, in Oakley. The daughter of Boniface and Anna (Brungardt) Prewo, Anna was born on August 29, 1922, in Grainfield, KS. She married Ambrose Selenke on November 17, 1947, and to this union six children were born.

Anna was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and enjoyed attending Mass and praying the rosary. She liked to attend any sporting event or activity where her grandchildren were participants. She loved to garden and raise flowers. Her children and grandchildren have many items that she crocheted. She was truly happy when sitting at her sewing machine. Anna adored each of her cats. Playing cards was always the highlight of her week and she loved to go shopping! You could always count on Anna being late. If her kids wanted her to be at their home for dinner at six, they learned to say they were planning dinner at five.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents, Boniface and Anna Prewo; her husband Ambrose; son Larry; daughter Darlene Rietcheck; brothers, Albert, Acquline and Ben Prewo; sisters, Rose Prewo, Eleanor Prewo and Mary Stroda and four infant brothers, Edward, Joseph, Peter and Robert Prewo.She is survived by her children, Anna Hillman, of Lincoln, NE, Diana (Bob) England, of Norman, OK, David (Gayle) Selenke, of Oakley and Donald Selenke of Oakley; six grandsons; two granddaughters and eleven great grandchildren.

Anna Selenke (Prewo)

Cheryl Arlene Legg Bihlmaier, of Osborne, KS, passed away after a tremendous battle with cancer on February 9, 2024. She was born in Beloit, KS on September 10, 1952, the only child of Percy and Florence McClure Legg. She was 71.

Cheryl graduated from Osborne High School in the Class of 1970, where she was active in many extracurricular activities including pep club, class officer positions, mixed chorus and various musical bands. She attended Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS, returning to Osborne and taking a position as bookkeeper in the laboratory department of Osborne County Memorial Hospital.

She married Steve Bihlmaier in 1976 in Osborne, where Steve was an insurance and real estate agent for the Bihlmaier Agency. Cheryl joined Steve’s business as secretary and bookkeeper and soon became licensed as an insurance and real estate agent as well. Cheryl and Steve eventually helped manage the local State Farm practice owned by Steve’s father, Gene Bihlmaier. When the Bihlmaier family purchased the Farmers National Bank, which later became The Farmers Bank of Osborne, Cheryl managed the Osborne Investment Insurance Agency associated with the bank. She continued to be heavily involved with many aspects of the bank until retirement in 2020.

Cheryl was a member of the United Methodist Church in Osborne, where she played the organ and piano for several years when her two sons were young. She was also a longtime member of the Osborne PEO, serving as president and in various officer roles. From being a Boy Scout den mother to cheering her boys on at every sports event, Cheryl was deeply supportive of their many activities and academic pursuits. Gathering yearly in Colorado and Arizona with her family and dear friends were always cherished opportunities to be together and make lasting memories.

A gracious and caring person, Cheryl was generous with her time and expertise, willingly passing on her skills to numerous family and friends over the years. She enjoyed playing her grand piano and had great pleasure in knitting gifts for loved ones. A lifelong avid reader, Cheryl was never without a paperback in hand and a good book recommendation to pass along. Cheryl appreciated attention to detail and remembered all of her children’s and granddaughters’ accomplishments, always happy to tell and re-tell a good story involving family members’ activities.

In 2012, Cheryl’s eldest son, Nate passed away, unexpectedly at the age of 31. While this unimaginable tragedy resulted in extreme sorrow and forever changed many lives, Cheryl stoically remained the ultimate pillar of enduring strength and everlasting love for her family, especially to her granddaughter Dylan, who never had the chance to meet her incredible father. It is with this same fortitude and resolve that Cheryl courageously fought her illness for several years, never complaining once. Cheryl’s purposeful life and her amazing will to fight were rooted in her abundant love for her three granddaughters, whom she was determined to see grow into young women with a strong sense of self, just like her.

Cheryl’s greatest source of joy was her family.

She was preceded in death by parents Percy and Florence Legg, and son Nate Bihlmaier. She is survived by her beloved husband Steve Bihlmaier; son Matt Bihlmaier, his wife Jenn and granddaughters Claire and Olivia of Lawrence, KS; and daughter-in-law Nancy Bihlmaier and granddaughter Dylan of Houston, TX. Cheryl also leaves behind brother-in-law Doug Bihlmaier and his wife Kathy; niece Jesse Stiles, her husband Davey and great-niece Zoe; and niece Haley Bihlmaier, all of East Hampton, NY.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be gratefully designated to the Nate Bihlmaier Scholarship Fund or to Osborne County Memorial Hospital.

Edna Lucille (Lamm) Pick, age 103, of Brandon, Mississippi, transitioned to her heavenly Home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 3, 2024.&nbsp;

She was proceeded in death by her husband of almost 30 years, Rev. Roy Dean Pick, in 1969; parents, William and Helen Lamm; and 7 younger siblings. Survivors include daughter, Twila Lichlyter (Otis) of Brandon, Mississippi, and son, Ron Pick (Debbie) of Wichita, Kansas; four grandchildren, Cyndi Lichlyter Wilson (Phil), Phillip Lichlyter (Lisa), Paul Lichlyter (Amy), and Robert Pick; 3 step grandchildren, Kim Coos, Brandon Coos, and Crystal Findley; seventeen great-grandchildren; 22 great, great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Lucille Pick was born on November 2, 1920, on their farm just south of Alton, Kansas. She graduated high school in May 1939 and married Dean Pick at age 19 on April 28, 1940. After the war, he became a pastor, and they pastored Assembly of God churches in Strasberg, CO; Alma, NE; Lyons, NE; Sharon, KS; Pomona, KS; and Edna, KS. While living in Edna, Dean was diagnosed with advanced lymphatic lymphoma. In May 1969, they moved to Hutchinson, Kansas, and he passed away in mid-October. In the years after becoming a widow, she was employed doing clerical work in various offices but eventually started working for the State of Kansas Disability Determination Services, a branch of the Social Security Department. She worked there in a full-time capacity until her retirement in 1987, and part-time another 7 more years. She then moved to Mississippi to be near her daughter and their family in 1994.

Lucille’s faith journey began as an 8-year-old at a Quaker church camp meeting near Alton, Kansas. While in high school, she rededicated her life to the Lord and was a member of Assembly of God churches from then on. For many years and up until her death, she was a member of Brandon Assembly of God.

Over her lifetime, Lucille loved to travel, particularly to family events, regardless of how far away. She was a proud mother and grandma, a caring pastor’s wife, an efficient clerical worker, a women’s ministries leader, and, what particularly characterized her the last 25 years or so, a devout prayer warrior. When she started losing her mobility, she knew her greatest job was sitting in her recliner and praying.

Lucille had several favorite Bible verses but the one she wanted on her gravestone is Psalm 91:2… “I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust.” She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but she is rejoicing with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Judith (Judy) Jane Rentschler, 85, passed away February 15, 2024 at Kearney Regional Medical Center, Kearney, NE.

Judy Emigh was born February 26, 1938 in rural Sheridan County to Lyle Zadoc and Clyda Belle (Shaw) Emigh.

She was raised in Sheridan County and graduated from Selden High School in 1956. After high school she worked at her families cafe in Selden where she met LaVern. On November 17, 1957 she married LaVern William Rentschler in the United Methodist Church in Selden. To this union they were blessed with three children, Ronald LaVern, Vickie Lynn and Julie Lynelle.

They made their residence in Smith Center in 1959. In 1972 she began working at USD #237 in the food service for 22 years when she retired. She enjoyed getting to see all her children &amp; grandchildren at school over the years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, Smith Center. She loved volunteering at the Hardly Used Shop.

She loved her family dearly, following her three children, six grandchildren &amp; twelve great grandchildren with any event they were involved in. She was truly a Redmen and Lady Red fan!!

Her &amp; LaVern participated in antique tractor pulls. They would travel to the pulls &amp; she loved to cheer him on. They enjoyed attending KS &amp; NE State Fairs over the years. She was a collector of Precious Moments and they visited The Precious Moment Chapel in Carthage, MO. They also enjoyed vacationing in Branson, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Brother Gary Emigh, Sister Joan Emigh and Sister-in-law Ailene Phelps.
