Clarence Ray Corke, 70, died March 1, 2024, at Clovis, CA. Born March 18, 1953 in Hays, Kansas, he was the son of Kenneth and Dolores (Simon) Corke. Clarence married Sharon Lew in 1983 and they later relocated to California. &nbsp;She passed away in 2012. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Following his graduation from Goodland High School in 1971, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Clarence was a chef on the USS Ponchatoula and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. Following his military service, he worked for the Sheridan Hotel chain in Honolulu, HI and as a civil service employee at Pearl Harbor. He worked in San Jose for Schlumberger and for the SaveMart Events Center on the Fresno State campus.

He is survived by his sisters, Carlotta McDermott of Colby, Marian Corke of Great Bend and Marlene Regehr and husband Don of Great Bend; his brothers, Rodney of Goodland and Roger and wife Barbara of Azle, TX; five nieces and nephews, Eric Corke, Chelsea Ross and husband Jason, Chianne Corke, Allison Newman and husband Cavanaugh, and Madison Regehr; one great niece, Danika Corke; and three great nephews Talon Corke, and Spencer and Sutton Ross. Clarence was preceded in death by his wife Sharon; his parents; and a brother-in-law, John McDermott.&nbsp;

Roger Harold O’Hare, son of Elton Ray and Mildred May (McCashland) O’Hare was born October 14, 1946 in Oberlin, KS and passed away peacefully at his home in Grove, OK on November 17, 2023 at the age of 77.

Roger grew up in the Lyle, KS community and attended Spring Branch School and Norcatur High School. He attended Wichita Technical Institute before entering the U.S. Army in 1966. Roger served domestically and in Europe until his honorable discharge in February 1972. On November 9, 1968, Roger married his high school sweetheart, Connie Lee Michel. Together, they raised two sons, Patrick John and Michel Ray.

Roger and Connie were self-employed, owning O’Hare Oil Company in Norcatur, KS and the Amoco service station in Goodland, KS. Roger also worked for Yost Farm Supply in Goodland, KS where he enjoyed traveling the Midwest visiting with farmers while making his favorite sales of 4-wheel drive tractors and No-Till drills. Roger volunteered for 20+ years on the Norcatur Fire Department.

Roger loved teaching his sons to hunt and fish. He enjoyed NASCAR, dirt track stock car racing in northwest Kansas, boating, and road trips throughout the U.S. During the summer months, Roger and Connie enjoyed exploring various lakes in their RV. Roger always claimed he couldn’t wait “to get on the road again” and would play the song in their truck any time they began their travels. In fact, as they would leave a campground, they would open their windows and Roger would turn up the volume on the stereo and they’d wave to everyone as they made their grand exit. Roger and Connie were huge Denver Broncos fans and relished a family rivalry when their sons became KC Chiefs fans.

In December 2018, Roger and Connie purchased a home on Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees in Grove, Oklahoma, which had fast become their favorite lake. From their deck, they enjoyed not only the lake view, but the deer and other wildlife passing by their backyard. Every summer, Roger would supervise as Connie planted brightly colored flowers in pots for their enjoyment all summer long. Many of these flowers brought in hummingbirds and cardinals which the couple began feeding.

Roger’s personality was full of wit and humor. He loved a good laugh, usually at his own expense, although he enjoyed telling stories of other’s silliness as well. He had the ability to talk with any stranger and immediately make them feel like they had been friends for years. Roger’s lively spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and sister Joleen O’Hare. Reta Mae (Stephens) Carey Rutherford passed away March 4, 2024 at the Legend at Capital Ridge Nursing Home in Topeka, KS. She was born December 13, 1936 in Lenora, KS to Levi and Blanche (Breeden) Stephens.

Reta grew up south of Clayton, KS and attended school in Jennings, KS. On February 27, 1953, Reta married Charles F. Carey in Clayton, KS. She worked as a Clerk at Mayo’s in Clay Center and then she worked at Exchange Bank in Lenora until her retirement. She later married Kenneth Rutherford on April 3, 2010. Reta was a member of Rebekah’s and the United Parish of Lenora. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, traveling, and camping.

Reta is survived by her children: Marilyn Kay Darling (Jewell) Murray of Topeka, KS, Robert Alan Carey of Morland, KS, Cindy Sue Lyne (Eugene) Newman of St. George, KS, and Steve Leon (Michelle) of Salina, KS; sisters, Margaret Gartrell and Coleen Brooks; five grandchildren: Jason (Rachelle) Lyne of Long Beach, WA, Jessica (Eric) Dieckhoff of Olathe, KS, Megan (Joseph) Ulmer of Topeka, KS, Ashley Carey of Phoenix, AZ, Pierce (Joe) Carey of Baltimore, MD; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and her special friend Ralph Berhardt. Joyce Eileen Stoner, 76, died Friday, February 16, 2024, at her home in Garden City, Kansas. She was born December 11, 1947, in Garden City, Kansas, the daughter of Donald Edward &amp; Marjorie (Brennaman) Morgan.

Joyce has been a lifetime resident of Garden City. She attended Garden City schools and graduated from Garden City High School in 1965. Joyce began her working career as a dental assistant for Dr. Parson and at the time of her retirement was working as office manager for Dr. Keltner. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, and she enjoyed her time doing various crafts such as ceramics, bead work, embroidery, and cross-stitch. She loved listening to music, her flower gardens and bargain hunting. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and her favorite dog “Buffy.”

On April 16, 1966, she married Richard A. Stoner in Garden City. He survives. Other survivors include three sons Kurt &amp; wife Audrey Stoner of Luther, Oklahoma, Eric &amp; wife Georgia Stoner of Wichita, Kansas, and Marc Stoner of Edmond, Oklahoma; a Brother Donald Morgan &amp; his companion Louise Autry of Wentzville, Missouri; a sister Marilyn &amp; husband Kent Seba of Garden City, Kansas; nine grandchildren Derek &amp; wife Ashlynn Stoner, Joshua Stoner, Cole Stoner, Jack Stoner, Ethan Stoner, Kate Stoner, Morgan Stoner, Maggie Stoner, &amp; McLain Stoner; and one great-grandchild Felicity Stoner. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, and a daughter-in-law Julie Stoner.

&nbsp;Shirley Ann Weber, 82, of Colby, died Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Citizens Medical Center, in Colby. She was born on February 22, 1942, in Colby, to Lorne and Florence (Farmer) Spriggs. Shirley enjoyed quilting, making table runners, reading, and spending time with her dog Molly. Shirley was united in marriage to Fred Gaede Jr. on June 5, 1960. After his passing she married Robert Weber on October 26, 1984.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband Fred Gaede Jr. and sister Jean Spriggs.

She is survived by her husband Robert; children, Darren (Jennifer) Gaede, Dawn (Joel) Kriss, Lori Hatch, Debbie (KG) Kersenbrock, Doug Weber and Michael (Kelly) Weber; and 14 grandchildren, Linsey Huffaker, Damon Gaede, Gage Owens, Kelsey Watson, Kenzie Kriss, Megan Snook, Eli Snook, Corey Siruta, Chanel Siruta, Shelby Weber, Lindsey Weber, Mason Coats, Spencer White and Levi White.

Gaylene Louise Spears departed this Earth while surrounded by her loving family on March 2, 2024, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. Gaylene was born on September 9th, 1959, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Harvey and Verdena (Burwell) Springer. She was the second of four kids born into the Springer family. The Springers moved from Nebraska, eventually settling in Richmond, Kansas. Gaylene graduated from Central Heights High School in May of 1977.

After graduation, Gaylene went on to Kansas Wesleyan University, where she was a member of the pompom squad and majored in elementary education. She met the father of her children, Mark Spears, and they were married on August 18, 1979. To this union, four children were born: Deanna Lynn, Travis Michael, Tyson James, and Darissa Gaylene. Gaylene was a wonderful mother and kept a happy home. Her children remember childhood meals spent around the dinner table as a family, as well as trips to multiple basketball tournaments where she cheered them on.

Gaylene’s children and grandchildren were the highlight of her life. She recently retired as a para from Central Heights, her alma mater, and moved in with her daughter and son-in-law, Deanna and Brent Clark, and their kids. She loved living in Garden City, telling people she had moved from a trailer into a palace. Many bowls of ice cream were shared while the family watched their nightly game shows, as well as evenings around the dinner table with Tyson and his special friend, Amber. Gaylene also enjoyed spending time with her other kids and grandkids. Grammy, as she was known, never forgot a holiday or birthday. Her grandkids always looked forward to checking the mail for a special treat around those times, and they were never disappointed.

Another of Gaylene’s passions was education in all forms. She taught school for over 30 years, and then became a para for several years after retiring as a full-time teacher. All of her students became her kids, and she loved giving handmade Christmas ornaments to each of her students, made by her own mother, Verdena Springer. Countless adults from her classroom days now decorate their Christmas trees with these beautiful pieces. Gaylene always enjoyed hearing about her students’ experiences in her classroom, and she loved seeing photos of her “kids,” all grown up.

She was preceded in death by her father Harvey Springer.

Gaylene is survived by her loving children, Deanna Clark (Brent), Garden City, KS; Travis Spears (Tamara), North Platte, NE; Tyson Spears (Amber), Garden City, KS; and Darissa Butler (Chris), Yukon, OK. She is also survived by her mother, Verdena Springer; her siblings, Russell Springer (Carla); Verlin Springer (Kim), and Marcia Springer. Left to mourn her passing are her grandchildren, Maddox, Landon, Tegin, Tucker, Carter, and Autumn. She will be missed by her nieces, nephews, and many former students and friends.

Pastor Timm O. Meyer, 70, of Norton, KS, passed away on February 28th, 2024 with family by his side.

Timm was born on December 25th, 1953 to Orval and Ruth Meyer in Black Creek, WI. After Timm graduated from Fox Valley Lutheran High School in 1972 he pursued an education in Ministry at Northwestern Lutheran College in Watertown, WI. After graduation, Timm entered Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI, graduating in 1980.

Timm served as Pastor in: Zeeland, ND and Mound City, SD; Milbank and Summit, SD; Norton and Hays, KS and McCook and Alma, NE. He also served the inmates at Norton Correctional Facility in the area of Worship and Bible Study. Serving in the Ministry for over 40 years he was very passionate about sharing the Gospel. He also cared deeply about his community, volunteering in many ways; he donated blood religiously, found joy in coaching youth soccer and helping with the walking school bus and he played an important role as the secretary of the planning commission and board of zoning appeals.

In 1976, Timm met Denise McCartney in Watertown, WI. Timm and Denise married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kewaunee, WI on May 31st 1980 and went on to have three children; Sam, Rebecca and Zach.

Timm loved life. He would spend his free time riding his motorcycle, traveling with Denise, fishing in Montana, and playing word games with family.

Timm was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Faye &amp; Joan and brother Gary. Timm is survived by his wife Denise, his son Sam (Britta) of Rochester, MN, daughter Rebecca (Ryan) of Volga, SD, and son Zach of Hays, KS, his grandchildren; Jack, Dayton and Everly, and sisters Connie and Dawn, and nieces and nephews.

Roger Harold O’Hare, son of Elton Ray and Mildred May (McCashland) O’Hare was born October 14, 1946 in Oberlin, KS and passed away peacefully at his home in Grove, OK on November 17, 2023 at the age of 77.Roger grew up in the Lyle, KS community and attended Spring Branch School and Norcatur High School. He attended Wichita Technical Institute before entering the U.S. Army in 1966. Roger served domestically and in Europe until his honorable discharge in February 1972. On November 9, 1968, Roger married his high school sweetheart, Connie Lee Michel. Together, they raised two sons, Patrick John and Michel Ray.Roger and Connie were self-employed, owning O’Hare Oil Company in Norcatur, KS and the Amoco service station in Goodland, KS. Roger also worked for Yost Farm Supply in Goodland, KS where he enjoyed traveling the Midwest visiting with farmers while making his favorite sales of 4-wheel drive tractors and No-Till drills. Roger volunteered for 20+ years on the Norcatur Fire Department.Roger loved teaching his sons to hunt and fish. He enjoyed NASCAR, dirt track stock car racing in northwest Kansas, boating, and road trips throughout the U.S. During the summer months, Roger and Connie enjoyed exploring various lakes in their RV. Roger always claimed he couldn’t wait “to get on the road again” and would play the song in their truck any time they began their travels. In fact, as they would leave a campground, they would open their windows and Roger would turn up the volume on the stereo and they’d wave to everyone as they made their grand exit. Roger and Connie were huge Denver Broncos fans and relished a family rivalry when their sons became KC Chiefs fans.In December 2018, Roger and Connie purchased a home on Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees in Grove, Oklahoma, which had fast become their favorite lake. From their deck, they enjoyed not only the lake view, but the deer and other wildlife passing by their backyard. Every summer, Roger would supervise as Connie planted brightly colored flowers in pots for their enjoyment all summer long. Many of these flowers brought in hummingbirds and cardinals which the couple began feeding.Roger’s personality was full of wit and humor. He loved a good laugh, usually at his own expense, although he enjoyed telling stories of other’s silliness as well. He had the ability to talk with any stranger and immediately make them feel like they had been friends for years. Roger’s lively spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him.Roger was preceded in death by his parents and sister Joleen O’Hare. Clinton Garman, 67, passed away on February 27, 2024 at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene, ID. He was born in Garden City, Kansas, in November 24, 1956, to Leroy &amp; Dolly Garman.

Clinton attended Garden City Sr. High School, Garden City Community College and Panhandle State University. He served in the Army, Army Reserves, and had been a member of the Civil Air Patrol.

Clinton was an active member of the Coeur d’Alene, ID, Senior Center where he not only participated in, but helped coordinate pool and bingo activities. He also enjoyed watching college basketball and football, as well as major league baseball on TV. Clinton loved to learn and was an avid reader.

Clinton is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother Robert (Karla), and his sister Peggy (Dean).

Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. on Friday, March 15 at Garnand Funeral Home followed by Graveside Services at 2:00 pm in Valley View Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard. Cheryl A. Pauley, 79, died Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the Southeast Colorado Hospital District in Springfield, Colorado. She was born July 25, 1944, in Lewis, Kansas, the daughter of Franklin Elwood &amp; Thelma Frances (Milhon) Meeker.

As a young child, Cheryl moved with her family to Garden City where she attended Garden City schools. She then attended Cosmetology school in Wichita, Kansas. A longtime resident of Garden City, Cheryl lived in Lakin, Kansas from 1964 to 1978, returning to Garden City. For more than 43 years, Cheryl worked as a beautician, and she owned and operated Shear Techniques for several years. Cheryl later worked for 6 years at Pizza Hut in Garden City. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and loved to spend her time bowling, gardening, and shooting at the gun range.

On October 3, 1964, she married Joe Baier in Garden City, Kansas. Cheryl later married Lanny Pauley on August 4, 1991, in Green Mountain Falls, Colorado. He survives. Other survivors include a daughter Michelle Nicholson of Holcomb, Kansas; a son Matthew &amp; wife Teresa Baier of Cheyenne, Wyoming; six grandchildren Jacob (Caty) Nicholson, Dalton Nicholson, Darian (Cody) Nicholson, Kylea Baier, Tyler (Amanda) Lounsberry, &amp; Cody (Carman) Lounsberry; and five great-grandchildren. Cheryl is preceded in death by her parents; a son Michael Baier; and a brother Lonnie Dewayne Meeker.

Family and Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2024, at Flat Mountain Brewery in Garden City, Kansas. Cheryl A. Pauley

Neva Elaine Smith Pointer, age 87, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2024, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. Neva was born on July 20, 1936, in Montezuma, Kansas, to John and Katie Jantz Smith.

Neva attended grades one through seven in Montezuma, Kansas; the eighth grade at Norton County Country School and graduated from Elkhart High School.

Neva was married to Dean Pointer on March 18, 1955, in Syracuse, Kansas. They were married for 62 years prior to Dean passing away. To this union, five children were born. As Dean’s work required it, their family moved to several different homes. Eventually, Ulysses became their permanent resident.

The task of caring for five children kept Neva busy, yet she created and found ways to bring extra income into the household. Amongst those things were ironing for others, cleaning houses, painting and wallpapering, selling Avon, and pouring and painting plastercraft. Neva was active in the local bowling teams, holding the secretary position of bowling leagues for over 30 years.

Teaching her children how to create things of beauty from everyday things that were around the house and yard seemed to come natural to Neva. The year that the large puff ball dandelions were gathered from ditches, hair-sprayed and then painted gold will always remind her children and perhaps those elementary teachers who received them that beauty can be found in the simplest of things that seem to have no purpose.

Neva started and ran her own business, “Pointer Ceramics” for over 40 years. She spent countless hours standing at the slip-held pouring table banding, pouring and unbanding new pieces of ceramics. Neva was a 4-H Ceramic leader helping the youth of the Ulysses and surrounding communities create ceramic pieces of their own. Many county fairs had exhibits of pieces created at Pointer’s Ceramics. One of Neva’s nurses in the last week of her life was one of those young painters. Neva’s touch on others is countless.

In Neva’s own written words, “Life is such a precious gift and I have tried to enjoy it...taking care of myself and not being a burden to anyone.” Neva lived her life that way daily. In those same final words written in her handwriting “I will miss my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. My wish for them is to stay healthy and enjoy life.”Family mealtimes were a must in Neva and Dean’s home. Each evening meal preparation and clean-up was shared by everyone. The expectation to be at the dinner table on time was enforced. Creative ways to make the groceries stretch through to the end of each month happened daily. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy and corn were amongst the favorite meals enjoyed on a Sunday afternoon.

Neva didn’t attend church a whole lot but believed in God. She lived her life always trying to do for others, sometimes at a cost to herself. She valued the spiritual heritage passed down to her from her parents and grandparents. She shared her belief with her children by sending them to Sunday School and summer Bible schools. Bibles were always present in the household. Neva was baptized at the Western Prairie Care home by Shirley Williams in the fall of 2023.

Neva was preceded in death by her husband, Dean; her grandparents, Henry and Minnie Smith and Tobias and Caroline Jantz; her parents, John and Katie Smith; her sisters, Doris Amirt and Dolores Burton; her brothers, Donald Smith, Lawrence Smith and Lester Smith; and her granddaughter; Lacey Diane Case.

Neva is survived by her sister, Neoma Keith; brothers, Keller Smith and wife, Harriet, and Allen Smith and wife, Pat; children, Doris and husband, Jerry Greene, Debra Case, son-in-law, Jimmy Case, Rodney Pointer, Denise and her husband, Len Sisk, and Deanna Pointer; her grandchildren, Michael and Tashina Case, Ed and Amy Lenherr, Cory and Stacy Brown, Chris and Andrea Greene, Curtis and Charity Greene, Nici Jewell, and Derek and Amber Jewell; and 14 great-grandchildren.

 </figure>Neva Elaine Smith Pointer, age 87, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2024, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. Neva was born on July 20, 1936, in Montezuma, Kansas, to John and Katie Jantz Smith.Neva attended grades one through seven in Montezuma, Kansas; the eighth grade at Norton County Country School and graduated from Elkhart High School.Neva was married to Dean Pointer on March 18, 1955, in Syracuse, Kansas. They were married for 62 years prior to Dean passing away. To this union, five children were born. As Dean’s work required it, their family moved to several different homes. Eventually, Ulysses became their permanent resident.The task of caring for five children kept Neva busy, yet she created and found ways to bring extra income into the household. Amongst those things were ironing for others, cleaning houses, painting and wallpapering, selling Avon, and pouring and painting plastercraft. Neva was active in the local bowling teams, holding the secretary position of bowling leagues for over 30 years.Teaching her children how to create things of beauty from everyday things that were around the house and yard seemed to come natural to Neva. The year that the large puff ball dandelions were gathered from ditches, hair-sprayed and then painted gold will always remind her children and perhaps those elementary teachers who received them that beauty can be found in the simplest of things that seem to have no purpose.Neva started and ran her own business, “Pointer Ceramics” for over 40 years. She spent countless hours standing at the slip-held pouring table banding, pouring and unbanding new pieces of ceramics. Neva was a 4-H Ceramic leader helping the youth of the Ulysses and surrounding communities create ceramic pieces of their own. Many county fairs had exhibits of pieces created at Pointer’s Ceramics. One of Neva’s nurses in the last week of her life was one of those young painters. Neva’s touch on others is countless.In Neva’s own written words, “Life is such a precious gift and I have tried to enjoy it...taking care of myself and not being a burden to anyone.” Neva lived her life that way daily. In those same final words written in her handwriting “I will miss my children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. My wish for them is to stay healthy and enjoy life.”Family mealtimes were a must in Neva and Dean’s home. Each evening meal preparation and clean-up was shared by everyone. The expectation to be at the dinner table on time was enforced. Creative ways to make the groceries stretch through to the end of each month happened daily. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy and corn were amongst the favorite meals enjoyed on a Sunday afternoon.Neva didn’t attend church a whole lot but believed in God. She lived her life always trying to do for others, sometimes at a cost to herself. She valued the spiritual heritage passed down to her from her parents and grandparents. She shared her belief with her children by sending them to Sunday School and summer Bible schools. Bibles were always present in the household. Neva was baptized at the Western Prairie Care home by Shirley Williams in the fall of 2023.Neva was preceded in death by her husband, Dean; her grandparents, Henry and Minnie Smith and Tobias and Caroline Jantz; her parents, John and Katie Smith; her sisters, Doris Amirt and Dolores Burton; her brothers, Donald Smith, Lawrence Smith and Lester Smith; and her granddaughter; Lacey Diane Case.Neva is survived by her sister, Neoma Keith; brothers, Keller Smith and wife, Harriet, and Allen Smith and wife, Pat; children, Doris and husband, Jerry Greene, Debra Case, son-in-law, Jimmy Case, Rodney Pointer, Denise and her husband, Len Sisk, and Deanna Pointer; her grandchildren, Michael and Tashina Case, Ed and Amy Lenherr, Cory and Stacy Brown, Chris and Andrea Greene, Curtis and Charity Greene, Nici Jewell, and Derek and Amber Jewell; and 14 great-grandchildren.Public visitation will be on Friday, March 8, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses, Kansas. Mona J. Heitschmidt, age 67, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas. &nbsp;She was born on March 8, 1956, in Scott City, Kansas, the daughter of Leonard &amp; Ruth Frank Steffens Jr. &nbsp;A lifetime resident of Scott City, Kansas, she was a secretary for Brookover Cattle Company in Scott City, Kansas for almost 30 years.

She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City, Kansas.

Survivors include her Two Daughters - Alesha Heitschmidt of Manhattan, Kansas, Chelsea Moses-Heitschmidt of Manhattan, Kansas, One Son - Josh Heitschmidt of Miller, Missouri, Two Sisters - Becky Bryant of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Sherry Hickey of Scott City, Kansas, One Brother - Johnny Steffens of Mulberry, Kansas, Six Grandchildren - Morgen Roberts of Scott City, Kansas, Raigen Wilson of Manhattan, Kansas, Carley Heitschmidt of Miller, Missouri, Lakyn Heitschmidt of Miller, Missouri, Nova Heitschmidt of Miller, Missouri, Kyilen Heitschmidt of Miller, Missouri, and numerous nieces &amp; nephews.

She was preceded in death by her Parents.

Garden City- Wanda Holmes Adam Karagoz, 85, died on Thursday February 29, 2024 at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born on August 5, 1938 the daughter of Robert “Bob” Garfield &amp; Donna Faye (Millard) Holmes. Bob had an itchy foot so the family moved a lot with many adventures and experiences. Wanda graduated from Holcomb High School. Over the early years she lived in Kansas, Nebraska, Utah and Colorado.

She married Norman Lee Adam in Holcomb on April 7, 1957. She was a farmwife and raised her kids- Robert “Buck”, Valerie, Norman Jeffrey and Craig on the farm at Holcomb. She and Norman started the Ponderosa Turf Farm and operated it as a family until his death in 1980.

In the early 80’s she traveled to Egypt where she rode camels and saw the pyramids. She traveled to Greece and loved the music, food and the people. She visited her Uncle in Paris and made several visits to Turkey where she married Mustafa Karagoz and lived there for a time before returning to Kansas. In the late 80’s she moved to Phoenix to live and work with her son Jeff, taking care of flower departments in several craft stores. She worked a stall at the flea market in Phoenix and she was the Receptionist at Theresa’s Beauty Salon in Apache Junction, Arizona. After she retired she lived near her Mother in Apache Junction. After her Mother’s death she moved back to Kansas in 2019 to be close to her kids.

She is survived by her Children- Robert &amp; Carrie Adam of Houston, Texas and their children- Jonathan, Tanner &amp; Garret, Jim &amp; Valerie Lobmeyer of Leoti and their children- Allyson &amp; Jeremy Temares, Jordan Lobmeyer, Cami Lobmeyer, Bethany Maestas &amp; Eugene Burch and children- Mac Maestas &amp; Miles Maestas, James Adam Lobmeyer, Taryn Lobmeyer, Samantha Lobmeyer, Anthony Lobmeyer and Mason &amp; Jacobi Lobmeyer, Norman Jeffrey Adam of Mesa, Arizona and children- Jaimie Adam and Norman Jeffrey Adam, Craig Adam of Garden City and son- John Steven Smith, Brother- Robert Holmes of Carson City, Nevada and Sister- Sandra &amp; Kurt Dorman of Florence, Arizona. Wanda Holmes Adam Karagoz

Verda L. Werner – age 86, of Victoria, Kansas passed peacefully on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Via Christi Village Care Center, Hays, Kansas.

Verda was born August 4, 1937, in rural Victoria, the fourth of seven children to Simon and Ida (Ubert) Goetz. Verda grew up on the farm sharing many adventures with her siblings. She graduated from Victoria High School in 1955 and received her degree in Elementary Education from Fort Hays State University.

Upon graduation, Verda taught for one year in Damar and then moved to Brewster. While teaching there, Verda met and fell in love with Ivan Werner. They were married on June 18, 1960 at St. Fidelis Church in Victoria. Verda and Ivan began their married life in Brewster and then moved to Manhattan. Victoria became their home in 1970 and Verda started teaching at Victoria Elementary School. She faithfully devoted 27 years to her students, retiring in 1997. Verda remained involved in school activities and served as an editor for the Alumni newsletter. She enjoyed staying in touch with former students and meeting regularly with the retired teachers group. Verda felt honored to be inducted into the Victoria Alumni Association Hall of Fame on September 16, 2023.

Verda’s deep devotion to her faith was an example to those who knew her. She was a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis where she served as Lector, Commentator, Eucharistic Minister and member of the funeral dinner committee. Verda enjoyed singing with the St. Fidelis Choir and belonging to the Christian Mothers and Daughters of Isabella for 25 years.

Verda dedicated her life to her family and was happiest when spending time with them. She was an excellent cook and lovingly prepared countless delicious meals for family and friends. Verda was also a talented seamstress and following retirement, she began quilting. She enjoyed the camaraderie of the quilting community and made many quilts to donate. Her family, including extended members, treasure the quilts she designed uniquely for each person.

Verda’s other interests included flower gardening, traveling, and watching a variety of sporting events, especially when her children or grandchildren were participating.

Verda is survived by her husband, Ivan Werner, of the home; her children, Rhonda Fionda and husband, David, Chattanooga, TN; Patti Woschitz and husband, Dan, Bethlehem, GA; Mike Werner and wife, Katie, Leawood, KS; her brothers, Ronald Goetz, Hays, KS; Frank Goetz and Cam Mahaffey, Denver, CO; her sister, Sharon Merrick and husband, Frank, Oviedo, FL; her brother-in-law, Bill Meyers, Overland Park, KS; her grandchildren, Beth Darguin (Andre); Allie Hudson (Blake); Nick Fionda (Rachel); Luke Woschitz; Jill Woschitz; her great grandchildren, Leslie Spearman; Lane Hudson; Maya Darguin; Miles Darguin; her nieces and nephews; and other extended family.

Verda was preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Ida Goetz; her sisters, Alma Meyers; Norma Huffman and Richard; Berniece Bushman and Dennis, and her sister-in-law, Diane Werner.

Verda will be missed for her sense of humor, her gracious hospitality, her servant heart, and her loving spirit.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 9, 2024, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas with celebrant, Father John Schmeidler.

A vigil service and rosary by the St. Fidelis Christian Mothers will be at 6:30 P.M. Friday, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:30 P.M. Friday, and from 10:00 to 11:00 A M. Saturday at The Basilica of St. Fidelis.

Rose Marie Blasing, age 91, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Salem Home in Hillsboro, KS. She was born December 31, 1932, in Ellis, Kansas to Joseph L and Catherine (Jacques) Weber. She graduated from Ellis High School in 1951. She married Larry Dean Blasing on September 6, 1954, in Ellis. He preceded her in death March 8, 2008.

Darlene Marie Werth, age 83, of Hays, Kansas died in her home on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, in Hays. She was born on December 1, 1940, on the family farm near Munjor, Kansas to Henry and Josepha (Klaus) Ruder. She was a 1958 graduate of Victoria High School. Darlene married Irvin Lee Werth in Victoria, Kansas at The Basilica of St. Fidelis on November 14, 1959. He preceded her in death on September 21, 2015.

Darlene was a homemaker and along with Irvin started their own business, Smoky Hill Sand Company, where she was the bookkeeper.&nbsp;She enjoyed gardening, canning, quilting, baking, and cooking traditional German meals for her family. She enjoyed watching masses and country music shows on TV. She was a member of the St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, past member of the Schoenchen Altar Society and taught religious education classes for St. Anthony’s Parish.

Darlene Marie Werth

On February 19, 2024, Ruth Nadine (Ives) Fenton caught her last glimpse of the evening sunset on this earth. Ruth was born on August 27, 1936, to Harold and Hilma (Fisher) Ives. She was the 6th of 8 children growing up just north of the Stockton city limits. Sharing her early years on the farm with 3 brothers, 3 sisters, 3 cousins and then 2 nieces later on.

Ruth enjoyed helping her dad on the farm. She attended school in Stockton, and during her high school years she was a barista at the local drugstore/soda shop, working for her Uncle Lee Robinson. The local football boys hung out there after school and practice. By chance, one of those boys asked her if she would go out with him and she told him no. But his friend Raleigh Fenton said, “well how about going out with me?” And their life story began with movie nights, hunting adventures, motorcycle riding and more.

Ruth married her high school sweetheart Raleigh Earl Fenton on October 6, 1957. Ruth’s dad wasn’t so happy about losing one of his best hired hands, as the story goes. Ruth and Raleigh celebrated 67 years of life together on their farm east of Stockton. In early years, Ruth worked at the local ASCS office transitioning to stay at home mother to daughters Kathy and Kristie, and in later years granddaughter Jamie. Ruth was the best grandma and great grandma. She babysat every one of them. From the Glover tribe of Amber, Lacey, Ashton, Kaitton and Mattie, to Kristie’s youngest Jessica hanging out daily while her parents worked split shifts to the great grands of the Balthazor’s.

Ruth fulfilled many duties on the farm from farm gopher, harvest meal cook and delivery woman, parts runner, tractor driver, farm chauffeur, equipment mover, neighborhood lawn mower, nurse maid to baby calves (even allowing them in her living room to warm by the fire) just to name a few. Ruth began working outside the home again in 1984 delivering mail to a large portion of territory east of Stockton and Woodston; rain, snow, or sunshine until she retired in 2011.

Ruth (in her family’s humble opinion) was the best cook around. Her fried chicken brought friends and family to their home on a regular basis. She rarely followed a recipe or used measuring tools. Her best meals were made when cleaning out the refrigerator with recipes too rare to be duplicated by others. No one ever left feeling unwelcome or hungry. She made her house a home. She was a natural born caregiver for friends, neighbors, her parents, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and Raleigh even to the end, concerned he wasn’t eating properly and getting enough rest. Ruth had many talents; seamstress, organist, hairstylist, pianist, vocalist, and wedding cake baker to name a few.

She will forever be remembered by her loved ones as the cat whisperer. Taming the wildest of cats into a favorite, often a privileged house cat. She lovingly took in the strays often dumped at the end of the driveway (others must have known of her talents). These cats became her regular morning chore, feeding them and loving them, and counting them each morning to make sure none were missing from the herd. And yes, we do mean herd. Another of her favorite things besides cats were sunrises and sunsets. Beginning each morning at the breakfast table with Raleigh watching the morning sunrise with a cup of coffee.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents Harold and Hilma Ives, brothers AJ (Norma) Ives, Max (Lavonne) Ives, and Dean (Earlene) Ives, sisters Elaine (Edward) Yoxall, Norma Moore, Joyce Keeten, father and mother-in-law Earl and Mattie Fenton, sisters-in-law Janeva (Warren) Jones and Janette (Herb) Jones, daughter Kristie (Steven) Johnston and her beloved boxer Annie.

She is survived by her husband Raleigh of the home, daughter Kathy (Jim) Glover of Larned, sister Dixie Rose of Wagoner, OK, brother-in-law Donnie Keeten of Glade, granddaughters Jamie (Adam) Balthazor and Jessica Johnston all of Stockton, Kaitton and Mattie Glover of Larned, grandson Ashton of Burdett as well as Amber (Micheal) Gray and kids and Lacey Lyne and son of Sterling. Great-grandchildren Baileigh, Zeke, Leigha and Blake Balthazor of Stockton, Samuel Glover-Alvarez of Larned, and many nieces and nephews, and a herd of cats.

She requested no funeral. Everyone is invited to a come-and-go luncheon on May 25, 2024 at the Senior Center in Stockton, KS.

Ruth Nadine (Ives) Fenton

Hattie Ann Clifford, 68, passed away on Feb. 29, 2024, at her home in Russell, surrounded by her loving DSNWK staff. She was born on Feb. 4, 1956, in Kyle, South Dakota on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation to Floyd Clifford and Lulu Twiss.

After Hattie’s birth, she and her family moved to Henderson, Nev., in June 1956. Hattie lived with her parents until 1973 when her parents divorced, at which time she moved to Martin, S.D., to live with her grandparents.

Hattie learned many independent living skills from her grandmother: washing dishes, folding laundry, making beds and assisting with some cooking. Hattie then moved back to Henderson, Nev., in 1974 to live with her dad and attended the Helen J Stewart School, graduating in 1975. 

Hattie lived with her dad until 1985 when she went to live with her sister Beverly and family. She lived there until Beverly passed away in 1998. Hattie’s brother Don, and her sister-in-law, Robyn assisted in caring for Hattie, and arranged for Hattie to enter into DSNWK services in Hill City in 1998. Hattie was very close to Robyn and enjoyed spending time with her. She made many friends while in Hill City and enjoyed arts and crafts classes. Hattie lived in Hill City until 2015 when she moved to a DSNWK group home in Russell, and Connie Schinkus became her court-appointed guardian.

Hattie enjoyed when Connie came to visit: enjoying all the goodies and coloring books she provided. She loved the therapy dog Lucy and would always give her hugs, kisses, and had a great big grin while doing it. Hattie enjoyed shuffling her playing cards, coloring books, teapa (coffee), pickles, and cottage cheese. Hattie will be greatly missed by her DSNWK friends and family.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. March 5 at the Pioneer Developmental Center of Russell. Burial will be at Stockton City Cemetery at a later date.

Hattie’s brother Don, and her sister-in-law, Robyn assisted in caring for Hattie, and arranged for Hattie to enter into DSNWK services in Hill City in 1998. Hattie was very close to Robyn and enjoyed spending time with her. She made many friends while in Hill City and enjoyed arts and crafts classes. Hattie lived in Hill City until 2015 when she moved to a DSNWK group home in Russell, and Connie Schinkus became her court-appointed guardian.Hattie enjoyed when Connie came to visit: enjoying all the goodies and coloring books she provided. She loved the therapy dog Lucy and would always give her hugs, kisses, and had a great big grin while doing it. Hattie enjoyed shuffling her playing cards, coloring books, teapa (coffee), pickles, and cottage cheese. Hattie will be greatly missed by her DSNWK friends and family.A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. March 5 at the Pioneer Developmental Center of Russell. &nbsp;James M Helus, 63, of Colby, died Friday, March 1st, 2024, at Citizens Medical Center. He was born July 11, 1960, in Colby, KS, to William and Janice Helus. He graduated from Colby High School in 1979. On June 27, 1992, he married the love of his life, Glenda Hankins.

LeRoy Dinkel, 86, of Grainfield, Kansas, died February 27th, 2024, at Wheatlands Healthcare Center in Kingman, Kansas with family at his side. He was born in Grainfield to John and Christina (Kaiser) Dinkel on September 23, 1937.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Christina; siblings, Mary, Francis, Richard, Darlene, and Loretta; his wife of 29 years Inez (Kraft) Dinkel, and second wife Joan (Yoakum) Dinkel of 22 years.LeRoy is survived by his sister Louella (Willie) Zerr of Oakley, Kansas; children; John (Laura) Dinkel of Leander, Texas; Vicki (Joel) Jarnagin of Goddard, Kansas; Jim (Cindy) Dinkel of Las Vegas, Nevada; Brad Dinkel of Round Rock, Texas; and Scott (April) Dinkel of Lincoln, Nebraska.LeRoy enjoyed seven grandchildren; Matthew, Jessica, Jayde, Joshua, Trevin, Trajan, Tatiana; and eight great grandchildren; Jackson, Jase, Cooper, Reagan, Aleyna, Aston, Evelyn, Iylah.

LeRoy was a lifelong resident of Grainfield where he raised his family and worked in the northwest Kansas area until his retirement.

After graduating from Grainfield High School in 1955, he enlisted in the US Navy and was honorably discharged after three years of service.

On December 27, 1961, he married the mother of his five children, Inez Kraft in Park, Kansas. After Inez passed away in 1990, he remarried to Joan Yoakum in Grainfield on October 24, 1992.LeRoy worked at the family service station with his dad after his time in the Navy. He was also employed by Shaw Motors, and Mead Construction before starting his own contracting business in association with Southard Home Improvement. After selling the business, he became the Grainfield city services manager until his retirement. Even after retirement he helped out with projects around the community and anyone who required his many areas of expertise. He was a volunteer fireman, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion.

There will be a visitation and viewing from 3:00- 5:00 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley. A rosary will be led by the Knights of Columbus at 9:30 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2024, at Saint Agnes Catholic Church in Grainfield. Graveside service will follow at the Grainfield Cemetery. Honorary bearers for the service are Mathew Dinkel, Joshua Jarnagin, Trevin Dinkel, Trajan Dinkel, and Chandler Ray.
