Rodney Wayne Smith, 69, passed away at his home on February 2, 2020. 
He was born on March 7, 1950, at Hoisington to Ivan and Myra (Carlisle) 
Smith.

A lifetime Barton county resident, Rodney lived in Great Bend. He was
 a truck driver for Air Co and most recently Groendyke. He loved 
hunting, fishing, and the peaceful solitude that his profession offered.

Survivors include, a son, Ryan Smith of Topeka; three daughters, 
Rachael Colby and husband Harold of Franklin, Neb., Jennifer Vratil and 
husband Jay of Great Bend, and Annika Smith of Great Bend; and eight 
grandchildren, Trenton Colby, Kendall Colby, Taylor Vratil, Brooke 
Vratil, Braden Vratil, Kade Vratil, Rylee Smith, and Ryan Smith, Jr. He 
was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Janice Dyer, 
infant Karen Smith, and Tacy Smith.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial 
Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 8, 2020, at 
Bryant Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Joiner presiding.

Lucretia J. “Creech” Cunningham, 80, passed away Monday, February 3, 
2020 at her home in Wilson, KS. She was born October 8, 1939 in 
Cottonwood Falls, Kansas to William Riley and Wanetta (Huelett) 
Storment. Creech was a graduate of Hays High School in Hays, KS.  She 
was united in marriage to Gary B. Cunningham on June 17, 1965 in Hays, 
Kansas.  


Creech owned and operated a house cleaning business called Happy 
Housekeepers in Hutchinson, KS for 19 years. After moving to Wilson she 
worked for Wilson Nursing Home for 17 years and as an EMT for Ellsworth 
County for 10 Years.


Creech enjoyed quilting, sewing, and gardening; she also enjoyed the
 outdoors, hunting and fishing. Her greatest enjoyment was her family; 
she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren immensely and took 
great pride in their activities and taking them on trips.


Left to cherish her memory is her son Brian (Susan) Sanders of 
Giltner, NE; daughters, Debra Sanders of South Hutchinson, Dorothy 
Sanders of Hutchinson, and Brenda (Dean) Unruh of Hutchinson; brothers, 
William Earl Storment, Donnie Lee Storment, Danny Dale Storment, and 
Audie Barry Storment; sisters, Lillian Kay Wadley and Lawanna Sue 
Storment; 12 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.


She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Wanetta; first 
husband, Donald Sanders; second husband, Gary Cunningham; sons, Gary 
Sanders and Scott Cunningham; two infant children; brothers, Wendelin 
Jay Storment and Raymond Eugene Storment; and sisters, Eunice LaDean 
Airehart and Lois Irene Axelson.


Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020, at 
10:00 A.M. at the funeral home in Wilson. Burial will follow in Wilson 
City Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday 1:00PM until 8:00PM with

Rita "Rat"&nbsp; Gaye (Atwood) Reynolds, 78, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Saturday evening, February 1, 2020, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Rita was born November 3, 1941 in Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; She was one of three daughters born to Clarence W. and Marie R. (Pozalek) Atwood.&nbsp; She grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in the Class of 1959.&nbsp; She has lived most all of her life in the Russell area.

Rita was united in marriage to Dwayne W. Reynolds on February 14, 2004 in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; She was a Bank Teller for Valley State Bank for several years.

Rita was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, where she volunteered for many years.&nbsp; She enjoyed tilling in her flower garden, playing bingo and visiting with friends at McDonalds.

Surviving family include her husband of 15 years, Dwayne of the home; two sons, Brian Anschutz of Russell, Kansas and Derrick Anschutz (Melodie) of&nbsp; Russell, Kansas; step daughter, Rose Johnston (Curt) of Eaton, Colorado; sister, Ima Jean Atwood of Lafayette, Colorado; 8 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Lila Joy Atwood.

Gregg Lawless, 59, of Osborne, KS passed away on Sunday, February 2, 
2020 at the Osborne County Memorial Hospital. &nbsp;Gregg was born on August 
5, 1960 to William J. &amp; Martha K. (Stevenson) Lawless in McCook, NE.
 &nbsp; He was&nbsp;one of several children.

Gregg attended and graduated from Palisade Public school in 1978. &nbsp;He
 then attended a trade school to become a lineman. &nbsp;He helped his dad 
&amp; grandpa on the farm. &nbsp;He stacked hay and guaranteed his stack 
would never shift or fall. &nbsp;Gregg worked at Miller Weeder in Stratton, 
NE for a year, was a lineman for SWPPD until 2009 and in Osborne, KS as a
 lineman until he had a debilatating stroke.

Gregg is preceded in death by his son, James Madison Lawless in 10/2/2019 and both of his parents.

Gregg is survived by his wife, Connie of the home; son: Jeremiah Skye
 Lawless of Osborne; daughter: Jasmine Faith-Marie Lawless of Osborne; 
sisters: Brenda (Wayne) Daniel of Palisade, NE; Marj (Guy) Rundbeck of

Helen Marie (Ambrosius) Brown, age 76, of Hays, Kansas, died Sunday, February 2, 2020, at Via Christi Assisted Living Center in Hays.

She was born November 9, 1943,in Spokane, Washington to William H. and Helen Josephine (Woods) Ambrosius.&nbsp; She married Richard C. Brown on June 12, 1965, in Enid, Oklahoma.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on September 9, 2007.

She was a charge nurse, a clinical supervisor, an inpatient rehab and skilled nurse for over 30 years.&nbsp; She worked in home health care and at the Goodland Hospital for 13 years.&nbsp; She then moved to Hays in 1993, and worked at Hays Medical Center until she retired in 2010.&nbsp; She a 1961 graduate of Enid High School, she received her BS in Science Education in 1966 from Philips University in Enid, her LPN in 1980&nbsp; from Colby Community College and her BSN. RN. Cum Laude, in 1994 from Fort Hays State University.

She was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church and a Lay Reader.&nbsp; A life time member of the&nbsp; American Association of University Women, and a member of the National and State Association of Rehabilitation Nursing.&nbsp;

Survivors include her two sons, Rick Brown and his wife, Jennifer, Derby, KS; Bill Brown, Hays, KS; one brother, Bill Ambrosius and his wife, Kathy, Dove Canyon, CA; six grandchildren: Jordan (Ruby) Moore, Jayme Brown, Liam Brown, Cody Ramsey, Kael Ramsey, Keaton Brown; and one great grandchild, Elizabeth Moore.

She was preceded in&nbsp; death by her parents and her husband,

Helen Marie (Ambrosius) Brown

James “Jim” Kenneth Madsen, 66, of Russell, Kansas, died unexpectedly on Friday, January 31, 2020, at Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Jim was born on September 15, 1953, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Kenny and Louise (Rogers) Madsen.  He grew up on the family farm in West Branch, Iowa and attended high school there.  Jim graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor's degree in Agriculture Business.  He was united in marriage to Katrin Kolder, DVM on September 1, 1990 in West Branch, Iowa.  They divorced in 2013, but continued to breed Red Angus cattle and raise their sons Steven and Josh together.  The last five years were spent with his special friend, Lindi Clough.

The family moved from Thermopolis, Wyoming to Russell, Kansas in 2010 and put together a grassland ranch northeast of town.  Jim was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.  He loved the ranch, took pride in improving it and working with his sons.  An avid football fan, he took great interest in history, geography, conservative politics and fighting for the independent cattle producer.  The joys in his life were riding his horses with his dogs checking cows.  Watching the moon rise or the sun set from his yard brought him peace and fulfilment.  

Surviving family include Katrin and sons Josh and Steven of Russell, KS; brother Dick (Jenny) Miller of West Branch, IA; sister Patty (John) Earley of  Naples, FL; granddaughter Raelynn Madsen, Ridgecrest, CA and cousins Ronnie (Cynthia) Madsen of West Branch, IA and Richard (June)  Madsen of Coralville, IA.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30AM, Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at St John Lutheran Church, Russell, KS. A celebration of life will follow at a later date in West Branch, IA. James 'Jim' Kenneth Madsen

Judith Sandra Kent, age 76, of Norton went to be with the Lord on Sat 02/01/20.  She was born to Joseph and Anita Senter on 08/13/43 in Denver, CO. Judy was the 3rd of five children: JoAnne, Marvin and Jerald (Buz) still alive &amp; kicking. 

She remains celebrated by her 2 children: Derek (Sue) and Jolene (Mike Ward.) plus 4 grandchildren: Brenda, Jeffrey (Katie, Jordan (Jessica) and Kelsey Kuehn; and the 6 great grandchildren: Savannah, Aspen, Sonny, Zayden, Myla and Eliana. 

Judy was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Charley Thomas Kent, her daughter Denise, and her brother Jim.    Chuck and Judy moved to Norton from the Denver area in 1985, and owned the Pool Hall on State Street for several years. Afterward Chuck worked for the school district and Judy was the feisty homemaker. Chuck and Judy were members of the American Legion and had many friends with whom they went dancing, playing cards and throwing darts.  She moved into Dawson Place in Hill City where she lived since 2009.

Judy was the 3rd of five children: JoAnne, Marvin and Jerald (Buz) still alive &amp; kicking. She remains celebrated by her 2 children: Derek (Sue) and Jolene (Mike Ward.) plus 4 grandchildren: Brenda, Jeffrey (Katie, Jordan (Jessica) and Kelsey Kuehn; and the 6 great grandchildren: Savannah, Aspen, Sonny, Zayden, Myla and Eliana. Judy was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Charley Thomas Kent, her daughter Denise, and her brother Jim. Chuck and Judy moved to Norton from the Denver area in 1985, and owned the Pool Hall on State Street for several years. Afterward Chuck worked for the school district and Judy was the feisty homemaker. Chuck and Judy were members of the American Legion and had many friends with whom they went dancing, playing cards and throwing darts. Margaret Agnes White, 87, passed away on February 1, 2020, at 
Medicalodges of Great Bend. She was born on June 18, 1932, at Odin to 
Joseph &amp; Agnes (Debes) Wondra. She married Robert A. White on 
September 18, 1951 at Odin, KS. He died on July 30, 2010.

She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Margaret loved to garden.

Survivors include her children, Ronnie White of Marion, Va., Larry 
White and wife Danette of Damascus, Md., Karen Irick and husband Mike of
 Brownsville, Tenn., Patsy White and husband Bill Troyer of Eugene, 
Ore., James White and wife Midori of Seattle, Wash., Greg White of 
Fayetteville, Ark.; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four 
siblings, Rita Legleiter, Art Wondra, Jerry Wondra, and Jeanie Hapes. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Marilyn; two 
brothers, Robert Wondra and Al Wondra; and three sisters, Mary Ann 
Collins, Cecilia Schneweis and Sister Edith “Catherine” Wondra.

Lifelong Sherman County resident James Leland Fritz, 77, passed away 
on Saturday, February 1, 2020, at Via Christi in Wichita, Kansas 
surrounded by family.

James was born on December 25, 1942, in Goodland, KS to Martin Fritz 
and Lena (Schock) Fritz. He attended school in Ruleton, Kansas until the
 8th Grade. After graduating, he farmed and worked at the automotive 
shop with his brother, Jake. At the age of 22, he enlisted in the U.S. 
Army and served our country for 3 years. He then returned to help Jake 
operate Fritz Bros. Garage and work at the CO-OP. In 1967, he began 
farming in Sherman County, which became Fritz Farms.

Jim never knew a stranger. He made a lasting impression on everyone 
he met. Many friends and family loved being near him because you knew he
 was going to say something or do something good. He loved fishing, 
playing cards and bowling, but his main passion was farming.

He married Joan Fritz on August 12, 1972. Jim and Joan enjoyed time 
with family, fishing at the lake, bowling, and farming until Joan’s 
passing on August 4, 1986. Preceding him in death were his parents, his 
wife Joan, and his brother Jake Fritz, and Carl Schock (Uncle). He is 
survived by his Daughter Mable (Kenny Seibel) Goalden. Grandsons Dustin 
(Ashley) Goalden, Scott (RaeAnn) Hayes. Great Grandchildren Gunner, 
Tailynn, and Emery Goalden, Cheyenne, Cheryl, and Cooper Hayes. Nephew 
Rusty (Wendy) Fritz. Nieces Lanette (Mike) Keiner, and Kelly (Randy) 
Selbe, and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Service will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at 10:00 AM MT at

Alexius “Alex” Leiker, 83, Hays, died surrounded by family on Sunday, February 2, 2020, at HaysMed.

He was born August 17, 1936 in 
Liebenthal, the son of Alexander and Christina (Enslinger) Leiker.&nbsp; He 
was a United States Army Veteran and owned and operated Leiker Plumbing,
 Heating, and Air.&nbsp; 

On December 28, 1959, he was united in marriage to 
Betty L. Mermis in Hays, and they celebrated nearly 39 years of marriage
 before she preceded him in death on October 1, 1998.&nbsp; 

On June 30, 2001,&nbsp; he was united in marriage to Marilyn (Werth) Klaus in Hays, and they 
celebrated over 18 years of marriage.&nbsp; He was a member of St. Nicholas 
of Myra Catholic Church, Hays American Legion Post #173, Schoenchen 
Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #4166, and the Bishop 
Cunningham Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus.&nbsp; He liked to work, enjoyed
 tinkering and fixing things, helping his boys when they were in Boy 
Scouts, and camping and being outdoors.

Survivors include his wife; Marilyn of 
the home in Hays, four sons; Curtis Leiker and wife Davina of Olathe, 
Wesley Leiker and wife Jennifer of Hays, Todd Leiker of Olathe, and

John William Martin, 39, passed away February 1, 2020, at Via Christi
 St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita. He was born May 12, 1980 
in Great Bend, to William A. “Sonny” and Carolina (Ledesma) Martin.

John had been a Hoisington resident since 2015, moving from Midland, 
Texas. He worked in retail fabrication sales, and was a passionate 
mechanic, especially enjoying many hours on motorcycles and his classic 
Chevy Impala. John was a baptized member of the Catholic faith.

Survivors include his parents, Sonny and Carolina Martin of 
Hoisington; two sisters, Susan Clark and husband Bryan of Hutchinson, 
and Stephanie Kelsey of Ellis; nieces and nephew, Natalie Kelsey, Haylee
 Kelsey and Brendan Clark; grandmother, Alberta Ledesma of Hoisington; 
many aunts and uncles, including, John and Juanita Heinrich of Great 
Bend and Dallas Martin of Midland; and many cousins, including, Patty 
Diaz of Great Bend, Penny Swafford of Rolla, Mo., and Mitch Martin of 
Midland. John was preceded in passing by grandparents, Dorotha Surface, 
Doyle F. Martin and Herman Ledesma; one sister, Adrianne Carolina 
Martin; and many uncles and aunts, including, Arthur Tisdall and Doyle 
A. Martin.

There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place. Private

Donald Carl “Don” Hardy, 91, Bison, Kansas, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2020, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.

Don was born April 28, 1928, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Carl Harold and Elizabeth Jeannette (Rothweiler) Hardy.&nbsp; He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas.&nbsp; He was a farmer/stockman.

He was a 1945 graduate of Bison Rural High School, Bison, Kansas, and attended Baker University, Baldwin City, Kansas, where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Bison, Kansas, serving on many church committees

He was a former member of the Bison-Timken Men’s Club; the Bison Co-op board of directors; and past president of the Bison State Bank.

He spent many years as a member of a local bowling team.&nbsp; He especially enjoyed being a scorekeeper for almost 50 years for local basketball games. &nbsp;

He was a past chairman of the Eunice Edwards Scholarship Committee for 50 years, from 1967 to 2017.

Due to the sudden death in 1961 of his brother in law, he stepped in to help his sister with his two young nephews.

Survivors include:&nbsp; two nephews, Don Reinhardt (Jan) Bison, Kansas, and Gregg Reinhardt (Maggie, Great Bend, Kansas; two great nieces, Elizabeth Pinkston (Jason, Larned, Kansas, and Amy Blackburn (Mitchell, Bison, Kansas; and four great great nieces; and two great great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Francis Hardy; and his sister and brother in law, Carol and Lowell Reinhardt.

Memorial service will be Friday, February 7, 2020, at 10:00 A.M. at United Methodist Church, Bison, Kansas, with Pastor Angie Vertz officiating. &nbsp;

Donald Carl 'Don' Hardy

Margaret Christine (Johnson) Boschowitzki, age 91, of Ellis, Kansas passed away Thursday, January 30, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society, Hays. 

She was born March the 8, 1928 on the kitchen table at the family farm at Yocemento, Kansas to Sophus and Bertha (Brown) Johnson. On July 4, 1964 she married Reinhold Boschowitzki in the Congregational Church in Ellis. He preceded her in death on December the 22, 2010.&nbsp;

Margaret was a nanny early on helping when her siblings had babies taking care of the older nieces and nephews. She loved babies and was an LPN for 44 1/2 years at St. Anthony Hospital until she retired in September of 1992 . Most of those years were spent working in the OB Department taking care of several generations of babies. She was also a farmer alongside her husband Reinhold.&nbsp;

She is survived by her daughter, Amy Herl and husband AJ of Ogallah, Kansas; her grandchildren, Jared Herl of Jetmore , Katelyn and Ryan Herl of Ogallah; brother-in-law, Sam Higgins of Midland, Michigan as well as many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert, Charles and John Johnson and her sisters, Alice Fleming and her twin sister Mary Higgins.&nbsp;

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 5th at Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E 17th Ellis, KS 67637. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Ellis.

Visitation will be Wednesday 10:00 AM until service time.

 </figure>Margaret Christine (Johnson) Boschowitzki, age 91, of Ellis, Kansas passed away Thursday, January 30, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society, Hays. She was born March the 8, 1928 on the kitchen table at the family farm at Yocemento, Kansas to Sophus and Bertha (Brown) Johnson. On July 4, 1964 she married Reinhold Boschowitzki in the Congregational Church in Ellis. He preceded her in death on December the 22, 2010.&nbsp;Margaret was a nanny early on helping when her siblings had babies taking care of the older nieces and nephews. She loved babies and was an LPN for 44 1/2 years at St. Anthony Hospital until she retired in September of 1992 . Most of those years were spent working in the OB Department taking care of several generations of babies. She was also a farmer alongside her husband Reinhold.&nbsp;She is survived by her daughter, Amy Herl and husband AJ of Ogallah, Kansas; her grandchildren, Jared Herl of Jetmore , Katelyn and Ryan Herl of Ogallah; brother-in-law, Sam Higgins of Midland, Michigan as well as many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert, Charles and John Johnson and her sisters, Alice Fleming and her twin sister Mary Higgins.&nbsp;Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 5th at Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E 17th Ellis, KS 67637. Burial will follow in Mt. Margaret Christine (Johnson) Boschowitzki

Mary Ann Brungardt, 102, passed away at Ellinwood District Hospital in 
Ellinwood, KS on January 31st, 2020. She was born in Dubuque, KS on 
January 28th, 1918 to parents Frank &amp; Mary (Weber) Thill. Mary 
Ann&nbsp;was a longtime Ellinwood resident moving to town upon the passing of
 her parents at the age of 11, where she lived with John &amp; Mayme 
(Thill) Kowalsky.&nbsp; Mary Ann graduated from Ellinwood High School in 
1936&nbsp;and later married Benjamin Brungardt in Ellinwood on June 11th, 
1946. He passed away in 1966.&nbsp; Memberships include St. Joseph Catholic 
Church, Altar Society, and Daughters of Isabella.&nbsp;


Survivors include daughters, Sally Rupp, Hays, KS and Susie (Paul) 
Batchman, Ellinwood, KS; sister, Anna Lee Habiger, Ellinwood, KS;

Lester Dean Betts, age 82, of McCook NE, a beloved husband, father, 
brother, grandfather and friend, passed away on January 29, 2020 at 
Kearney Regional Health in Kearney, NE.

Lester was born to Martin and Elsie (Miller) Betts on May 13, 1937 in
 Dorrance, KS.&nbsp; He was one of seven children who attended school at 
Dorrance.&nbsp; Following high school, he played football at Dodge City 
Junior College.

Lester married Marilyn (Herbel) Betts on October 21, 1956.&nbsp; The 
couple was blessed with two children; son, Leslie and daughter, 
Lorenda.&nbsp; Lester enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly serving his
 country for two years, which included service on the aircraft carrier 
USS Ticonderoga.&nbsp; Lester spent all his life in the oilfields, working 
with Gore Oil Company until his retirement in 2000.&nbsp; After retirement, 
he spent many years farming and raising cattle.&nbsp;

Lester was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in McCook.&nbsp; He was 
also a lifetime member of the Russell V.F.W Post 6240 and the Heritage 
Antique Tractor Club.&nbsp; One of his most memorable moments was when he was
 a player on the Dorrance High School State Championship Basketball Team
 of 1956.&nbsp; Throughout his life, Lester enjoyed hunting and fishing.&nbsp;

Lester was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Marvin, 
Athol, Leroy and Edward Betts; and his two sisters; Imogene Galliart and
 Verba Gilmore.&nbsp;

Those left to celebrate his life include his wife of 63 years, 
Marilyn Betts of McCook; son, Leslie (Lorie) Betts of Dorrance, KS; 
daughter, Lorenda (Steve) Forbes of Beaver City, NE; five grandchildren,
 Jake, Krystle, Autumn, Nicole and Sarah; and five great grandchildren, 
Aiden, Noah, Amea, Kenya and Amelia.&nbsp;

Lester Dean Betts

Our
 foundation, our strength, our wisdom, our mother; Lita Jeannine (Scoby)
 Pfeifer, 87, passed away November 20, 2019 from influenza at Capital 
Medical Center in Olympia, Washington, after a brave and courageous 
battle with lung cancer and COPD.

Mom
 was born October 19, 1932, in St. Francis, Kansas to Lyle and Twila 
Scoby. She lost her parents at a young age and was raised by her 
grandparents, Henry and Lucinda Schaefer. In her early years, the family
 moved to Utica, Kansas and then later to Hays, Kansas, where she went 
to high school, attended Fort Hays State University, met and married her
 first love and our father, Callistus M. Pfeifer. Together they raised 
eight children. Mom owned and operated the House of Color and sold real 
estate in Hays, until she moved to Olympia in 1989, where she lived 
until her passing.

Along
 with her parents and grandparents, Mom was preceded in death by our 
father, Callistus M. Pfeifer; her sister, Connie Balzerick; and 
brother-in-law, Bob Balzerick.

Mom
 will be greatly missed by her children, Linda (Bill) Hall, Rhonda 
(Bill) Stowe, Diana (Rich) Sanders, Sharon (Steve) Brackney, Lance 
(Thea) Pfeifer, Lori (Michael) Chiechi, Lisa (Paul) McLain, and DeAun 
Pfeifer; grandchildren, Courtney (Wendy) Hall, Brian (Julee) Hall, Cole

Mom's
 passion for life was all consuming. She loved family gatherings, warm 
sunshine, the smell of fresh cut grass, and BBQ's. She loved a good 
glass of wine, martinis on special occasions,’50s music, crossword 
puzzles, and was always, always up for a good game of poker!

Mom's
 contagious laugh while telling a joke or story, her sound advice to 
anyone in need, her sharp as a tack mind and memory, and her unwavering,
 unconditional love will forever be missed, but will forever be carried 
in the hearts and memories of all who knew and loved her.

A mass at St. Joseph's Church in Hays will be held June 20, at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will 

follow
 at the Victoria Cemetery. Afterwards, the family will host a 
celebration of life gathering at Gella's restaurant in Hays from 1:00 
p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Almena resident Enid Foland passed away Feb. 1, 2020 at the Norton County Hospital, Norton, at the age of 94.&nbsp; She was born April 28, 1925 in McCook, NE, the daughter of Walter &amp; Olive (Wade) McGee.

Survivors include her daughter, Lynette Donaldson of Almena; her stepson, Gene Foland of Berryton, KS; 2 stepdaughters, Carolyn Foland of Sacramento, CA &amp; Nancy Engler of Topeka, KS; 1 grandson; 6 step grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; &amp; 9 step great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

Donald Arthur Fred Wiechman, age 84, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas.  He was born on June 7, 1935 in Scott City, Kansas, the son of John and Hilda Koch Wiechman.  A lifetime resident of Scott City, Kansas, he was a farmer, excellent woodworker, and an avid Scott City Beavers supporter.

He was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Scott City, Kansas and was an Army National Guardsman for six years.

On September 28, 1958 he married Marlo Nickelson in Scott City, Kansas.  She survives.

Survivors include his Wife - Marlo Wiechman of Scott City, Kansas, One Son - Troy &amp; Tina Wiechman of Sterling Heights, Michigan, One Daughter - Zoe &amp; Lyman Bowling of Winfield, Kansas, One Brother - Jerry &amp; Joyce Wiechman of Scott City, Kansas, Two Sisters - LaVera King of Scott City, Kansas, Velda &amp; Milt Riddiough of Scott City, Kansas, Seven Grandchildren and Two Great Grandchildren.

Donald Arthur Fred Wiechman

Eleanor I. (Ellie) Pitts, 85, passed away January 30, 2020 at Hodgeman County Health Center, Jetmore.

She was born June 16, 1934 in Hodgeman County, the daughter of Harry 
B. and Mildred Hull Hamm.&nbsp; A longtime area resident, she was a retired 
cook for the Jetmore High School.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion 
Auxiliary and a lifetime member of the Haun Museum, all of Jetmore.

On August 3, 1953, she married Norman Pitts in Las Vegas, NM.&nbsp; He survives.

Other survivors include: son, Jesse W. (Peggy). Pitts, Jetmore, KS; 
four daughters, Sherry J. (Scott) Childers, Blytheville, AR, Diana R. 
Salmans (Greg) and Beverly D. (Ken) Kellenberger, both of Claremore, OK,
 Rhonda L. (Mike) Cohoon, Cimarron, KS; brother, Gerald Hamm, Grand 
Lake, OK; sister, Karen Millen, Brier, WA; twelve grandchildren and 
twenty-four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Clifford Hamm and two sisters, Evelyn Hertel and Betty Blazic.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday at United Methodist Church, 
Jetmore, with Rev. Peter Mtuamwari and Rev. Mark Durham presiding.&nbsp; 
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Beckwith Funeral 
Home, Jetmore.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore.

Eleanor I. (Ellie) Pitts

Stephen S. La Bash, Jr. was born December 28th, 1942 in New York City, 
NY to Stephen S. La Bash, Sr. and Margaret M. La Bash. He passed away 
January 27th, 2020 at his home in Oberlin, KS at the age of 77. 


Stephen grew up in Los Angeles, CA, where he attended Loyola 
Catholic High School, the oldest high school in the state of California.
 He later attended Santa Clara University and Georgetown University 
School of Medicine. He served in the United States Army and Air Force 
during the Vietnam War as a Flight Surgeon. Stephen went on to serve for
 over 20 years, earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Stephen 
practiced medicine as a general surgeon until he retired in 2003. 


Stephen met the love of his life, Judith Christina Scrine of 
Portsmouth, England, in New York City at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Operating
 Room # 12, where she was working as a registered nurse. He married 
Judith on November 15th, 1969 in Nailsea, England.  Stephen and Judith 
went on to raise their three children across the country and the globe, 
while serving in the United States Army. 


While his son was growing up, Stephen volunteered with the Boy 
Scouts of America and at Philmont Boy Scout Camp in New Mexico. He 
supported and encouraged his two daughters’ interests in art, music, and
 the outdoors, including taking them on camping trips and encouraging 
them to work in National Parks during their summer breaks from 
university.  He also took great joy working on his used sailboat, trying
 to continually plug and stay ahead of the seemingly never-ending stream
 of holes that plagued the boat. He learned to fly in St. Francis, KS 
and aviation became one of his great pleasures. He later served in the 
Civil Air Patrol, during which he served a period of time as the Civil 
Air Patrol State Surgeon. 


He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oberlin, KS 
and volunteered with TeamMates, in McCook, NE.  He also volunteered at 
free community healthcare clinics. In his retirement, he studied music 
theory and learned to play the piano and the saxophone, taking regular 
music classes at McCook and Colby Community Colleges and attending 
summer music camps. He also played percussion in the community band.  


Stephen was an avid history buff, including American, military, and 
religious history, with a voracious appetite for history books and 
programs. He also had a long-standing interest in gardening and had been
 planning to start propagating plants from seed over the winter. 


Stephen was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his 
wife Judith and his children Stephen (and Miranda) La Bash of Aiea, 
Hawaii; Heather La Bash of Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia; Heidi La 
Bash of San Francisco, California; and his three granddaughters: 
Charlotte, Valen and Sabine.

Betty "Bet" Jean Frump, 67, of Colby, 
passed away Wednesday Jan. 29, 2020 at Hays Medical Center.&nbsp; She was 
born July 9, 1952 to Lyle and Arloine Eichelberger of Sterling, Ill.&nbsp;

Bet was known for her love for Christ 
and her family. She never knew a stranger and would welcome anyone into 
her life. Bet always put her family first; she made sure that her kids 
and husband were always taken care of.

It was her love for Jesus that 
instilled a desire to make sure she shared His love with everyone she 
came into contact with.&nbsp; One of the things she loved most was crocheting
 afghans and giving them away to anyone who was in need.&nbsp; She loved 
unconditionally and always strived to make sure everyone knew the love 
that Jesus has for them.&nbsp;

Bet’s life is celebrated by her husband
 Andrew Frump of 22 years.&nbsp; She was a proud mother of four children from
 her first marriage: Melissa and her husband Steve Baldwin of Joliet, 
Ill., Christina and husband Michael Cruse of Dixon, Ill., Douglas 
McDowall of Colby, Kan., Kari and her husband George Trail of Colby.&nbsp; 
Bet was also proud of her eight grandkids and seven great-grandkids.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents Lyle and Arloine Eichelberger. &nbsp;

There will be a service&nbsp;at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3rd, 2020 at Celebration Community Church in Colby, 1923 South Range Ave.&nbsp;

Charles K. “Chuck” Sproul, 73, Hays, died Friday, January 31, 2020 at his home.

He was born June 15, 1946 in 
Coffeyville, Kansas, the son of James and Ruby (Ninemire) Sproul.&nbsp; On 
August 28, 1965 he was united in marriage to Virginia L. “Gina” Keller 
in Ellis, and they celebrated over 54 years of marriage.&nbsp; He was a 
farmer, worked for Ellis County Feeders, and was a roustabout in the 
oilfield.&nbsp; Chuck enjoyed racing, hunting, welding, carpentry, and he was
 a jack-of-all-trades who enjoyed tinkering and building things.&nbsp; He and
 his wife loved dancing, and he loved his family, grandsons, granddogs 
and animals.

Survivors include his wife; Gina of the
 home, two sons; Kenny Sproul and wife Jodi and Chad Sproul and wife 
Jennifer, all of Hays, a daughter; Deana Sproul of Ellis, two grandsons;
 Dakota Sproul and girlfriend Kaitlyn Richmeier of Hays and Dawson 
Sproul of Stanford, CA, and two brothers; Earl Myers and wife Cheryl of 
Mountainburg, AR and John Munstermann and wife Shelley of Lincoln, NE.
