Jimmie Kathryn Shoemaker-Meyer

Jimmie Kathryn Shoemaker-Meyer, 103, Hays, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at Redbud Village in Plainville.

She was born September 24, 1921 in Piedmont, Oklahoma to John Dallas and Cora Lillian (Russell) Harrison. She grew up in El Reno, Oklahoma, graduating from El Reno High School in 1939. Her family moved to Oklahoma City in 1939 and there she met and married Charles E. Shoemaker on November 12, 1941. They moved to Wichita, Kansas and to this union were born two daughters and one son. In 1947, they moved to Hays, Kansas and were married 54 years before he preceded her in death on February 16, 1995. Jimmie worked for USD 489 as a school secretary at Lincoln Elementary School from 1964-1984. She married Mervil J. Meyer on June 12, 1999 and moved back to El Reno. He preceded her in death on January 20, 2008, and in 2013 Jimmie returned to Hays. She was a member of First Christian Church, Group One Circle, El Reno Study Club, and volunteered at the Hadley Hospital Gift Shop and the Community Assistance Center. She enjoyed sewing, water aerobics, playing cards, and learning about her computer. She loved being a homemaker and mother, and she treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Kathy Sturgeon and husband Lee of Surprise, AZ, Sherri Nelson and husband David of Hays, and Terry Shoemaker and wife Mariola of Elgin, IL, a stepson, Lindell Meyer and wife Beatriz of Oklahoma City, OK, nine grandchildren, Jeffrey Sturgeon, Jill Lucarelli and husband Mike, Tammy Nelson, Debbie Nelson, Michael Nelson, Brian Pearson, Hope Shoemaker, Charles E. Shoemaker II, and Katie Shoemaker Nicholson and husband Mike, four great grandchildren, John and Matthew Lucarelli, Callie Louise Shoemaker, and Johnathan Sawyer Nicholson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Charles and Mervil, five sisters, Floreine Castor, Irma Fae Bailey, Hazel Reed, Helen Jo Curtis, and Phyllis Ann Martin, two brothers, Dallas Russell Harrison and Donald Ray Harrison, and a stepdaughter, Marilyn Meyer Corn.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Rod Sutter officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Allen Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 on Wednesday and from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday, all at the funeral home.
