David E. “Dave” Haddock, 73, Hays, died Thursday, October 24, 2024 at HaysMed.
He was born April 30, 1951 in Hays, the son of Herman E. and Oma M. (Shetler) Haddock. Dave was a graduate of Hays High School in 1969, and served in the U.S. Army from 1969-1971, repairing helicopter skins. On May 27, 1973 he was united in marriage to Catherine Rose “Cathy” Saunders in Gillette, Wyoming. Dave worked at LaCrosse Furniture Factory for 27 years and then in the Auto Care Center at Wal-Mart for 17 years. He never knew a stranger, was a good listener, gave sound advice, and valued the importance of education. He enjoyed life outdoors, woodworking, mechanic work, farming, and loved being with his granddaughters.
Survivors include his wife Cathy of Hays, his son Tim Haddock (Mandy Brungardt) of Emmeram, his daughter, Natalie Irwin (Matt) of Centennial, CO, a brother, Jack Haddock (JoAnn) of Munjor, two sisters, Judy Allen of Topeka and Oma Dee Milledge (Rick) of Kiowa, his mother-in-law, Arlene Saunders of Gillette, WY, five granddaughters, Riley, Hayden, Katelyn, Karsyn, and Zoe, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Donald and Gary Haddock, two sisters, Joyce Haddock and Charlotta Klaus, his granddaughter, Alyshia, and his father-in-law, Bernard Saunders.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Curtis Flax officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am until service time. Memorials are suggested to the Dave Haddock Educational Fund for his granddaughters’ education.
