Connie L. Dreiling, age 88, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2024, at Via Christi Village Care Center, Hays, Kansas.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She was born July 31, 1935, at Hays, Kansas to Leo F. and Mary (Kuhn) Brungardt.&nbsp; She married Allen P. Dreiling on June 1, 1957, at Victoria.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on March 28, 2018.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She worked at Farmers National Bank, was secretary at Victoria High School, was a CNA at St John’s Rest Home in Victoria.&nbsp; &nbsp;She also worked with her husband Allen

at Allen Dreiling Accounting until they sold the business in 2016.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Connie was a member of The Basilica of Saint Fidelis and St. Fidelis Christian Mothers both of Victoria.&nbsp; She enjoyed her flower garden, reading, watching football, basketball, golf, and most of all spending time with her family.

RaMona L Ummel, 76, passed away on July 28, 2024 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. &nbsp;She was born on July 27, 1948 in Ransom, Kansas the daughter of Vern and Tessa (Powell) Cranston.

RaMona worked at Pizza Plus for many years prior to retiring. She was a member of Praise Fellowship Church in Ransom. She was a member of the Bazine American Legion Auxiliary and Golden Years. She married Robert Ummel on May 4, 1968, in Ransom, Kansas.&nbsp;

Survivors include husband, Robert Ummel of Bazine; son, Sean Ummel and Cindy Fuentes of Bazine; daughter, Heather Rohr and Jim Ledbetter of Waterloo, IL; grandchildren, Jacy Ummel, Brody Ummel, Braden Rohr, Preston Rohr. &nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents; half-brother, David Barrett; and half-sister, Gloria Hammond.

Mary Ellen Graeff, 97, passed away on July 27, 2024 at her home in Utica, Kansas. She was born on May 11, 1927 in Dodge City, Kansas the daughter of Roy and Neoma (Buckman) Henry.

Mary Ellen was a resident of Wichita for almost 30 years working at O.A Sutton, Bemis Bag Co. as a printer and Cessna Aircraft where she became a union steward. She returned to Utica in 1980 to care for her mother, Neoma Henry and help the Utica Star Courier. During her long life she enjoyed many activities, the Lion’s Club, church functions, and secretary-treasurer for many organizations in Utica.

She learned her printing skills from her grandfather, George T. Buckman, and her mother. She loved going to the canyons hunting shark’s teeth. She enjoyed life to the fullest extent. She came from a family with pioneer roots who came to Kansas from the Quaker area of Pennsylvania. She married Darrell Graeff. He passed away from an accident. On July 5, 1973, she married Duane Graeff in Wichita. He passed away on December 1, 2017.&nbsp;

Survivors include 2 daughters; 4 stepdaughters; 1 stepson; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; and many more family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 husbands; a son; a daughter; 2 stepdaughters; and numerous other family members.

Funeral service will be on Friday, August 2, 2024, 10:00 a.m., at the Praise Fellowship Church, Ransom, Kansas. Burial in the Utica Cemetery. Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, Kansas, on August 1, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

She was born on November 12, 1941, in Yardell, Arkansas, the daughter of Doy &amp; Nellie Ruth Dolsby Harp. Valerie was a lifetime resident of Scott City, Kansas, and was a retired school bus driver for USD 466 for 46 years.&nbsp;

She was a member of the Gospel Fellowship Church in Shallow Water, Kansas, and the Quilt Guild of Scott City, Kansas.

On October 26, 1958, she married Guy E. Stewart in Friend, Kansas. He passed away on April 18, 2018, in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp;

Melvin Lee Harmon, 90, passed away peacefully,
surrounded by his loving family, July 28, 2024, at Clara Barton Hospital,
Hoisington.&nbsp; He was born March 28, 1934,
in Great Bend, Kan., to Luther L. and Mabel Zona (Slaemer) Harmon.&nbsp; Melvin married Helen Vasquez March 2, 1963,
in Great Bend.&nbsp; Helen passed away July
25, 2011.

Melvin, a
lifelong resident of Hoisington, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, during the Korean
Conflict earning the rank of SP3 (T) upon his Honorable Discharge and later was
employed as a custodian for U.S.D. #431 for many years.&nbsp; In his early years, Melvin worked for the
Central Kansas Cheese Plant, Herb Weiser Conoco, and Brit Spaugh Park and
Zoo.&nbsp; He was a member of St. John the
Evangelist Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #1521, and enjoyed
NASCAR, "jalopy" racing, gardening, rock and coin collecting, and was
an avid sports fan, especially being an outstanding supporter for his children
and all Cardinal students.&nbsp; He was also
known as being an honorary football coach for the Cardinals, and in his younger
years could be found doing impressive acrobatic dives at Lake Barton.

Survivors
include two sons Mike Harmon (Diane) of Hoisington, and Larry Harmon of
Hoisington; two daughters, 

Elena
Hickey (Kurt) of Coldspring, Texas, and Angie Winchell (Jeff) of Cleveland,
Texas; one sister, Hazel Lotring of Norfolk, Conn.; 13 grandchildren and 12
great grandchildren, with an additional one to arrive soon.

He was
preceded in death by three brothers, Donald Harmon, Floyd Harmon and David
Harmon; and two sisters, Donna Cape and Vernita Schroeder.

Mass of
Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 2, 2024, at St. John The
Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington, with Father Warren Stecklein
presiding.&nbsp; Military Honors will be
provided by Ft. Riley Honor Guard.&nbsp; Visitation
will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 1, at Nicholson-Ricke

Melvin Harmon, age 90

Janetta Kinderknecht Heroneme, 65, Ellis, Kansas, died Saturday, July 27, 2024.

She was born, March 12, 1959 to Charles and Angela Kinderknecht. She married Alan Heroneme October 26, 1977 at St. Mary’s Church in Ellis.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Angie and in-law parents, Albert and Lela Heroneme, a sister, Charlene, a sister-in-law, Joyce, a brother-in-law, Michael, and nephews, Patrick and Daniel.

Survivors include her husband, Alan, a son, Anthony, a daughter, Adrienne, and grandchildren Noah, Norah, and Nevaeh Heroneme, Shiloh, Sophia, and Shaylie Gaschler, brothers, Charles Kinderknecht, Timothy Kinderknecht, and Cornell Kinderknecht, sisters, Cheryl Kinderknecht and Joyce Munsch.

All are invited to celebrate a Mass of Rejoice for Janetta at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at St. Mary’s Church, Ellis. Inurnment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. David Wayne Riley, of Plainville, Kansas, passed away on July 25, 2024, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, at the age of 64. He was born on April 11, 1960, to Lloyd Riley and Ima Kaye (Sutherland) Shaffer in Wichita, Kansas.

Dave was a devoted family man and a true gearhead. After graduating from Russell High School, he attended trade school in Wichita and became an auto mechanic. He loved competing in dirt track racing, demolition derbies, and tinkering on various projects. After marrying the love of his life, Regina, he settled in Plainville and embraced his new role as stepfather. Together they expanded their family. He shared his love of motorized things with his children and included them in the preparation phase of demo derby cars, built a go-cart for the kids to putt around the family farm, and helped his father-in-law with farming chores. He enjoyed attending auctions and would often return home with fun finds that he got for a bargain. He loved music, pecan pie, and had a keen sense of humor. He served his community as a 4-H leader, assisted with religious education at Sacred Heart parish and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

David is survived by his loving wife, Regina (Schrandt), of 32 years, his children, Rochelle (Jason) Frederick of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Matthew (Lydia) Riley of Great Bend, Kansas, Mike Riley of Hays, Kansas, Mark (Brittany) Riley of Plainville; 5 step-children, K.C. (Gwen) Kraushaar of Phillipsburg, Kansas, Nicole Wise of Manhattan, Kansas, Lacy (Shawn) Graf of Abilene, Kansas, Mandy (Nathan) Jacobs of Smith Center, Kansas, Joe (Katelyn) Kraushaar of Hudson, Kansas; 24 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter; and sister, Linda Murphy of Hays, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Riley, his parents, and his in-laws, grandson Phoenix Wise, and granddaughter Cecilia Graf.

Bonita Jeanette “Bonnie” Schremmer,
80, passed away July 28, 2024, at Hospice House of Hutchinson, Kansas. She was
born on February 29, 1944, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Joseph and Emma (Reif)
Prosser. On July 4, 1962, she married William “Bill” Schremmer at St. John the
Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington.

Bonnie was
a lifetime Barton County resident. She was a terrific home maker, keeping an
immaculate home and was an amazing cook and baker, along with working as a
bookkeeper and teller at First Kansas Bank for 18 years. Bonnie was a member of
St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Altar Society. She enjoyed fishing,
flowers, watching “The Walton’s”, and attending all her children’s and
grandchildren’s sporting events. Bonnie had a “masters in motherhood and
grandmotherhood” and loved hosting dinners for her family and friends.

Survivors
include her husband, Bill, of the home; three sons, Todd Schremmer of
Hutchinson, Tim Schremmer and wife Melissa, and Tyler Schremmer and wife
Renita, all of Hoisington; six grandchildren, beloved Haley Schremmer, Tara
McDiffett and husband Michael, Abbie Musgrove and companion Darin, Tyann
Schremmer, Trent Schremmer and wife Mary, and Tricia Schremmer; two great
grandchildren, Hayden Klug and Easton McDiffett; two brothers, Jim Prosser of
Springfield, Missouri, and Steve Prosser of Wichita; seven sisters, Lois
McClain and husband Jerald of Goddard, Celeste Meitner and husband Jim of

Garden City- Nelda Kay Laskey, 81, died on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at her home in Kearny County. She was born on June 14, 1943 at Norton the daughter of Floyd &amp; Bulah Mae (Shimm) McKie. She married James Lorimor on June 18, 1961 at Norton. She later married O. Charles Laskey in 1982 at Garden City.

Nelda graduated from Lenora rural High School in 1961. She later completed a home study program and passed the Registered Health Information Technician examination in 1975. She went to work for the Kansas Foundation for Medical Care in it’s initial days and did hospital audits for the Western half of Kansas. She later worked for St Catherine Hospital and Siena Medical Clinic both in Garden City and Kearny County Hospital in Lakin. She loved working in the health field and made many lasting friends and contacts over 55 years.

After retiring she and Chuck downsized and built an apartment on her Daughter’s home near Lakin. Country living was a new life for the two of them including a garden, flowers, animals including bull snakes and the usual country life. They quickly became a part of the Lakin community and enjoyed the friendship of many Lakin people. Her favorite pastime was watching her Grandson Ryder in his baseball career. In her earlier years she enjoyed golf. She was a member of Community Congregational Church of Garden City.

Marlene Ann Brull, 87, passed away peacefully on July 26,2024, at home surrounded by love and family after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.

Marlene was born to Nicholas and Catherine (Dreiling) Gabel on September 18, 1936, on the farm in Hyacinth, Kansas. She was a lifelong resident of Ellis County and a 1954 graduate of Girls’ Catholic

High School. Marlene married Charles F. Brull April 7, 1956, in Hays, Kansas, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Through this sacramental union that surpassed 68 years, they were blessed with three children, Michael, Judith, and James. Following high school, Marlene began her career at the Hays Building and Loan Association and continued in the banking business until retirement. She then worked for Dean Ellner Realtors. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Eucharistic Minister to the homebound and a member of both the Daughters of Isabella and Central Association of the Miraculous Medal. As a recipient of the Point of Light award, Marlene volunteered many hours at Thomas More Prep-Marian, including as president of the TMP-Marian Endowment. Marlene served in many organizations and in various capacities including Soroptimist, Hays area Chamber of Commerce, ARC Thrift Shop and Hays Symphony. Marlene freely gave from her heart and resources. Marlene loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was an avid crafter, sewing countless quilts for family, painting ceramics with her grandchildren, and hand-making cards for always-remembered birthdays and anniversaries. Marlene’s life served as a witness to her strong Catholic faith, from which she drew strength and raised her children.

She is survived and fondly loved by her husband, Charles; children - Mike Brull (Denise) of Hays, Judy Hicks (Dave) of Centennial, CO, and Dr. Jim Brull (Anne) of Hays; 9 grandchildren - Brandon Brull, Justin Brull (Sheridan), Jami Breit (Aaron), Jake Brull (Carly), Amanda Hicks, Kate Auriemma (Nick), Julia Keys (Sam), Luke Brull (Megan), and Carmen Brull; 9 great grandchildren - Connor, Cy and Reed Breit (Jami), Tessa, Rex, Griffin and Whit Brull (Justin), Robert Brull (Jake), and Charli Brull (Luke). Marlene is also survived by brother, Gary Gabel, and her best friend and sister, Mary Sauer with her husband, Melvin, along with numerous nieces and nephews, which she cared for deeply.

Marlene Ann Brull

Stanley John “Stan” Mayers, 65, Hays, died Saturday, July 27, 2024 at HaysMed.

He was born May 19, 1959 in Osborne, the son of Raymond and Laurine (Krier) Mayers. In 1977, he graduated from Osborne High School then attended Fort Hays State University, earning a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. He was the Chief Financial Officer at Golden Belt Bank, recently retiring after more than 22 years. On June 7, 1986, he was united in marriage to Pamela “Pam” Hamel in Zurich, and they celebrated 38 years of marriage. Stan was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, St. Nicholas of Myra Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #10044, the Fourth Degree Bishop Cunningham Assembly #282, and Marked Men for Christ. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a loyal Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, and K-State fan. He was devoted to his family and loved his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Pam of Hays, his three children, Jenna Meyer and husband Marc of Nolensville, TN, Jason Mayers and wife Sara of Wichita, and Jared Mayers and fiancé Halle Lohmeyer of Hays, two grandchildren, Molly Meyer and Aiden Mayers, five sisters, Cynthia Kendig and husband Larry, Darlene Hadley and husband Craig, Shirley Thompson and husband Kent, Lisa Spears and husband Doyle all of Osborne, and Deanna Smith and husband Rick of Hays, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In 1977, he graduated from Osborne High School then attended Fort Hays State University, earning a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. He was the Chief Financial Officer at Golden Belt Bank, recently retiring after more than 22 years. On June 7, 1986, he was united in marriage to Pamela “Pam” Hamel in Zurich, and they celebrated 38 years of marriage. Stan was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, St. Nicholas of Myra Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council #10044, the Fourth Degree Bishop Cunningham Assembly #282, and Marked Men for Christ. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a loyal Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, and K-State fan. Lifelong Phillips County resident, Lee Taylor, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE at the age of 88.

He was born February 1, 1936 in Phillips County, KS the son of Hobart and Geneva (Ragsdale) Taylor. &nbsp;He was a farmer and rancher.

Lee was united in marriage to Mary Lou Elizabeth Hanes on May 16, 1958 in Alma, NE. &nbsp;She preceded him in death in 2009.

Survivors include his sons Tony and wife Jennifer of Phillipsburg, Brian and wife Pam of Phillipsburg, and Clayton and wife Ann of Stockton; 6 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a sister Virginia Lois Miller of Phillipsburg.

C. Yvonne Lane, 76, passed away on July 23, 2024 at her home in Larned, Kansas, surrounded by loving family.

Yvonne was born on April 2, 1948 in Richland Center, Wisconsin, the daughter of Lawrence and Bernadine (Schmitz) McKenzie.

A Larned resident for over 50 years, Yvonne began her career as a music therapist at Larned State Hospital, and ended as a computer and internet technician with the Larned School District until her retirement. She loved all things computer-related, and was the “go-to” technology expert for the family.

She was of the Catholic faith. In addition to her love of technology, Yvonne was an accomplished pianist and organist, as well as an incredible seamstress and cook. In her younger years, she was a competitive ballroom dancer with her first husband, George, as her dance partner. Her silver dancing shoes were a favorite amongst her four daughters.

On August 17, 1974, she married George Strobel in Great Bend, Kansas. He passed away on February 6, 2001. She later married Loren D. Lane on October 18, 2008 in Rozel, Kansas. He survives.

Other survivors include four daughters: Heather (Britt) Ewy, Great Bend, KS; Tracy (Bill) Strobel, Spartanburg, SC; Anna (Evan) Cooper, Larned, KS; Lori (Graham Duthie) Strobel, Auckland, New Zealand; three stepsons: Nathan Lane, El Paso, TX; David Lane; Sam Lane, Larned, KS; five brothers: William (Prudence) McKenzie, Rockford, IL; Edward McKenzie, Potosi, WI; Jerome McKenzie, Green Bay, WI; Raymond (Sue) McKenzie, Zumbro Falls, MN; Leonard McKenzie, Sun Prairie, WI; one sister, Diane (Ron) Fogo, Richland Center, WI; five grandchildren: Cole Ewy, Ivan Strobel, Camden Cooper, McKenzie Cooper, and Elise Cooper; one step-grandchild, Clare (Dakota) Hood; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers (Michael McKenzie, Richard McKenzie, and Leo McKenzie), and three sisters (twin sister Yvette McKenzie, Cheryl Scheuerman, and Mary Tadder).

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, with family to greet friends from 4 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Beckwith Mortuary, with Rev. Jack Singer presiding. Graveside inurnment service will immediately follow at the Larned Cemetery.

William “Bill” Thompson, 88, of Salina, KS, passed away on July 23, 2024, at the Salina Regional Hospital in Salina, KS. He was born on January 14, 1936, in Pleasant Hope, MO. Bill married Gretchen Eschbaugh on May 11, 1991.

Bill’s favorite hobbies were watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball, fishing and gardening. He cherished his time with his wife above all else, and he enjoyed having time with family and friends. Bill was a kind and gentle man and was loved by all.

He is survived by his wife, Gretchen Thompson of Salina; siblings, Robert (Lila), Richard (Jackie), Tom, Geraldine Jacobs, Kathleen (Thayer) Smith; brother-in-law, Steve (Jeanine) Eschbaugh; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nellie Mae (Howell) Parr and Seever Eugene Thompson; sister, Debra Thompson; and brother, Dennis Thompson.

She was born on September 27, 1985, in Goodland, Kansas, the daughter of Mike &amp; Jennifer Lynn “Rhonda” Abbott Beckner. A resident of Scott City, Kansas since 2006, she was a homemaker.

Branda was a member of the Prairie View Church of the Brethren in Friend, Kansas, and was an avid bow &amp; rifle hunter.

On April 24, 2015, she married Rylan D. Smith in Scott City, Kansas. He survives.

Dorothy was born April 3, 1936, in Liebenthal, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and Barbara (Obholtz) Depperschmidt. She was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. She was a homemaker and loved gardening.

She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, and St. Michael’s Altar Society, both of La Crosse, Kansas.

On June 2, 1955, she married Clarence Bittel at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas.

Survivors include: her husband, Clarence Bittel, La Crosse, Kansas; two sons, Dennis Bittel (Christie), La Crosse, Kansas, and Gerald Bittel (Linda), La Crosse, Kansas; four grandchildren, Jessica Dellett (Jason), La Crosse, Kansas, Jennifer Stonequist (Jeread), Wellsville, Kansas, Amy Love (Damian), Manhattan, Kansas, and Ryan Urban (Stephanie), Mammoth Lakes, California; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Leo Depperschmidt, Garden City, Kansas; and two sisters, Edna Augustine, La Crosse, Kansas, and Angela Archer, La Crosse, Kansas.

Jeanette Younger age 91, of Victoria, Kansas passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Via Christi Village Hays, Kansas surrounded by her family.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She was born November 21, 1932, in Hays, Kansas to Henry A. and Pauline (Dreiling) Schumacher.&nbsp; She married James F. “Jack” Younger on January 26, 1952, in Victoria, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on September 3, 1996.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She and her husband owned and operated Younger Oil Service Station in Victoria for 42 years.&nbsp; They started their business in 1952, on Old Highway 40, then moved to their new location on Interstate 70 in 1967 and closed in 1994.&nbsp; Jeanette grew up in Victoria and was a 1950 graduate of Victoria High School.&nbsp; After high school she worked for a few years at the Ellis County Court House as an assistant for the County School Superintendent Tom Roth.&nbsp; She also worked a total of 12 years at St. John’s Rest Home at Victoria in housekeeping and the last two years at Via Christi Village in food services.&nbsp; Jeanette retired at the age of 80.&nbsp; She was a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis and a former member of the Daughters of Isabella both of Victoria.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Jeanette is known for many fantastic attributes.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was well known for her love of people and enjoyed working with her husband Jack daily at their Service Station, often running it on her own.&nbsp;&nbsp;Her work ethic was contagious.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;That love of people prompted Jeanette to constantly plan for her next entertainment opportunity.&nbsp;&nbsp;Community fish fries, corn on the cob feeds, weddings, reunion’s all excited her to see old friends and relatives. (There was never a small first communion party at the Younger house…each gathering outdid the last!)&nbsp;&nbsp;Folks who ever attended a “Younger Wedding” will know she was one of the founding members of the Ladies “Hat Dance” which has lasted for decades.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She was also very fond of travel, and learning about different cultures around the world, but always returning to her beloved Victoria where she was a main figure in the business and social community.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;But her greatest love was for family!&nbsp;&nbsp;She taught her family the importance of supporting each other through thick and thin.&nbsp;&nbsp;To this day, that mindset has permeated through 4 generations, and is sure to continue through many more.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Jeanette was the last living survivor of the Henry and Pauline Schumacher family.&nbsp; She is survived by her children, Frank Younger and his wife, Joleene, Victoria, KS; Debra “Deb” Gallagher and her husband, Mike, Liberty, MO; Diane Pfeifer and her husband, Kenny, Victoria, KS; Stan Younger and his wife, Karen, New Braunfels, TX; her grandchildren, Tonya Cole (Mike); Chris Younger (Katina); Jon Gallagher (Vickie Haywood); Sara Wartner (Cory); Eric Pfeifer (Jennifer); Kory Pfeifer (Jessi); Troy Pfeifer (Wendy); Jennifer Wyatt (Ruston); Amanda Breen (Matt); her twenty great grandchildren; her four great great grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Ethel Younger and Det Younger, both of Victoria, KS.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Lucille Wanda Kuhn, age 70 of Ellis, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She was born February 24, 1954, in Hays, Kansas to Andrew T. “Andy: and Clara Irene (Hammerschmidt) Kuhn.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She worked at the DSNWK/Reed Center at Hays in the sewing department and housekeeping for almost 50 years, and retiring in 2023.&nbsp; She grew up in Ellis, Kansas, attended the Washington Grade School and then graduated high school from the Reed Center,&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellis, and a member of the Victoria V.F.W. Auxiliary.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She was known as Lu; Lucy; LUCY GIRL; but by her mother as Lucille.&nbsp; She enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles, Lu has put together over 500 puzzles, listening to her music on her cassette player, and watching her TV shows.&nbsp; Her best game shows where The Price Is Right and Match Game.&nbsp; Her series shows where Major Crimes, The Closer and Rizzoli and Isles, and she always tuned in on the EWTN Channel.&nbsp; She would look out her window at home and watch her windmills outside and enjoyed spending time with her family.&nbsp;

Lucille Wanda Kuhn

Charles “Charlie” Edward Norton, age 81, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024, at his home in Leoti, Kansas. He was born to Walter Wade and Clara Francis Moore Norton on November 25, 1942, in Scott City, Kansas, and was a lifelong resident of Leoti. Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1964, Charlie served as an armorer in the 2/21st Artillery, 25th Infantry Division, U.S. Army until 1966, attaining the rank of Specialist E4.

On January 21, 1966, Charlie married Patricia J. Schulz in Lakin, Kansas. She survives him.

After his military service, he attended a farrier’s school and shod horses for many years. Charlie went on to become a renowned artist and historian, capturing the true spirit of the American West, its buffalo, and its people in his sculptures and paintings. Charlie was inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Dodge City, and was the sculptor of the 8th Wonder of Kansas, “Buffalo Bill” in Oakley, Kansas. He was a lifetime member of the Sharps Collectors Association, a board member of the Kansas State Historical Society, and a supporter of the Museum of the Great Plains in Leoti, Kansas. Charlie truly lived a western life.

Charlie is survived by his wife and three children: Tonya &amp; John Lamb of Russell Springs, Kansas; Taner &amp; Suzanne Norton of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and Carson &amp; Ashley Norton of Leoti, Kansas. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A graveside memorial service will be held at the Leoti Cemetery at a later date.

He grew up on the Price Farm, a Holstein Dairy Farm, northwest of Garfield, in Pleasant Ridge Township. He grew up as a member of the Garfield Boosters 4-H club. He attended Garfield Schools, graduating from high school in 1960. He then attended Hutchinson Community College where he went on to work in Wichita Aircraft Mfg, lastly working with Lear Jet. He married Carol Whitman on April 27, 1968 in Wichita, Kansas. He served two years active duty in the US Army at Ft. Carson, Colorado. He was a member of the Garfield United Methodist Church and Garfield American Legion Post 300. Kenneth and Carol farmed in Pawnee County and he worked at Larned State Hospital and Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility. He enjoyed his passions of farming, hunting, fishing, and family gatherings.Survivors include: his wife of fifty-six years, Carol Price; two daughters, Stephanie (Michael) Hall, Salina, Ericka (Chad) Davis, Ellsworth; brother, Lester L.
