Maynard Lowell Evans, age 101, of Hays&nbsp;died&nbsp;Wednesday, June 8, 2022,&nbsp;at Via Christi Village Care Center, Hays, Kansas.&nbsp;

He was born February 4, 1921,&nbsp;in Chatfield, Minnesota to Ivan Rowe and Vera (Breeze) Evans. &nbsp;He married Cyrilla C. (Schmidt) on July 20, 1946,&nbsp;in San Diego, California. &nbsp;She preceded him in death on December 9, 2015.

Maynard joined the US Navy at the age of 17, and was a veteran of WWII&nbsp;and the Korean Conflict. &nbsp;After serving 20 years he retired with the rank of Chief Gunner’s Mate (GMC).&nbsp;

After&nbsp;retirement from the Navy, he worked for the San Diego City School system for severalyears&nbsp;in landscaping. &nbsp;In 1959 Maynard, his wife,&nbsp;Cyrilla,&nbsp;and daughter&nbsp;Diane,&nbsp;moved to Hays&nbsp;where he owned and operated Evans Bike Shop and Evans New and Used for over 25 years. &nbsp;

Maynard’s life could be a book, his stories about his life and&nbsp;experiences, especially during his Navy career, could captivate a room. &nbsp;He was energetic, an entrepreneur, and genuinely wanted the best for people. &nbsp;He was an avid reader, and had a wealth of knowledge especially about current events and therefore&nbsp;he could&nbsp;interact with people on many different levels.&nbsp;

It made him very happy knowing that children in the Hays area got their first bike at the “Schwinn Shop”.&nbsp;&nbsp;He&nbsp;enjoyed reading many&nbsp;of their memories in the cards that he received for his “100th” birthday last year. 

He was a proud husband, father and grandfather.

He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, V.F.W. American Legion and The Fleet Reserve Association.&nbsp;

Survivors include his daughter, Diane Kathleen Schukman and husband, Harry, Knoxville, TN;&nbsp;his grandchildren, Evan Christopher Schukman,&nbsp;Malea Dyan Schukman;&nbsp;both of Knoxville, TN; his sister, Donna Pivonka, Rochester, MN his cousin, Janice Hartwich, Rochester, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his infant son, David Joseph Evans; his brother, Maro Evans; and his sister, Myra Rustad.&nbsp;

The very large Schmidt Family will always be his family,&nbsp;and&nbsp;a big thank you goes to all of them who always treated him as part of their family. &nbsp;The Schukman Family&nbsp;would like to thankall of you for, your&nbsp;visits,&nbsp;your&nbsp;errands you did for him, and&nbsp;also&nbsp;the&nbsp;staff&nbsp;while he lived in the Walker neighborhood at Via&nbsp;Christi Village Care Center.&nbsp;&nbsp;Your kindness and friendship will always be remembered.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 14,&nbsp;2022, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601&nbsp;with Father Harvey Dinkel O.F.M. Cap. officiating. &nbsp;Burial will be at the Saint Joseph Cemetery, Hays, Kansas with Military Honors by the Hays V.F.W.&nbsp;Post&nbsp;No. 9076.

A vigil service will be at 7:00 P.M. Monday,&nbsp;and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, and from 9:00&nbsp;to 10:00 A.M. Tuesday,&nbsp;all at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays.

Sally Jane Oberle, 71, of Ellsworth, died June 8, 2022, at Hutchinson
 Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; She was born September 24, 1950, in Haven, to
 Harry Berton and Vera Irene (Glover) Edwards.&nbsp;

Sally graduated from Holyrood High School and trade school to become a
 dental hygienist.&nbsp; She was a homemaker and loved her family very much.&nbsp;
 She had an unwavering faith in God and enjoyed In Touch Ministries with
 Charles Stanley and The 700 Club. Sally enjoyed reading, the family 
pets (which were her children), and visiting with family and loved 
friends.&nbsp; She loved to send cards and spent countless hours searching 
for just the perfect card (color, verse, and picture) to send to her 
family and friends.&nbsp; Above all, Sally was extremely proud of her two 
grandsons, Luke and Joseph.&nbsp; While the grandsons were in school, Sally 
and Norman stayed busy traveling to their sporting events, and cheering 
for them. &nbsp;They were her pride and joy.

On September 27, 1969, she married Norman Andrew Oberle, in Bushton.&nbsp; They shared almost 53 years of marriage.

Sally is survived by:&nbsp; husband, Norman; son, Andrew Oberle (Melissa),
 all of Ellsworth; grandsons, Luke Oberle (Gentry) of Goddard and Joseph
 Oberle (Alexandra) of Beloit; great-grandson, William Oberle, with two 
more great-grandchildren to join the Oberle family in 2022; sister, 
Marilyn Sue Patterson of Hutchinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by:&nbsp; her parents; brothers, Harry Edwards, 
Bill Edwards, and Bob Edwards; and sisters, Carolyn Evans and Peggy 
Green.

Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2022, at Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery located on East 8th
 Street, Ellsworth.&nbsp; Friends may call from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, 
with the family present from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Elliott Mortuary.

Michael Lee Plunkett, 60, of Lindsborg, passed away Wednesday, June 8th, 2022.
 Mike was born in Salina, Kansas on February 15, 1962, a son of the late Edna (Hart) Kerby and Eldon Roy Plunkett.
 He worked at Advance Auto as a shipping loader for 17 years and at Pfizer as an SPO for 10 years.
 Mike loved to fish, tinkering with vehicles, helping others, and was a great handyman. He could fix anything. 
 Survivors include his wife, Joanie (Pfeifer) Plunkett; step 
daughter, Gerri Huehl (Scott Phillips) of Salina; three step sons, 
Donovan Huehl (Lorrie), of Hutchinson, Kansas, Dallas Pfeifer, of 
Salina, Joshua Shafer, of Salina; 4 grandchildren; 2 great 
grandchildren; two brothers, Alan Plunkett (Terry), of Carlton, Kansas, 
Albert Plunkett, of Larned, Kansas; sister-in-law, Donna Plunkett, of 
Tescott, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.
 He is also survived by his faithful companions, Duke and Cooter.
 Mike is preceded in death by his brother, Alvin Plunkett.
 Cremation has been chosen and no services are planned.

Michael 'Mike' Lee Plunkett

James Howard Dolven (Jim or Big Jim), 76, of Ellsworth, Kansas, 
passed away Monday , June 6, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Society in 
Ellsworth. Jim was born September 7, 1945, in Decatur, Illinois.&nbsp; He was 
one of six children born to Clemens and Mollie (Wrench) Dolven.&nbsp; At a 
young age his family moved to Shelby, Montana, and he graduated from 
Shelby High School. During this time, he was very active in the Boy 
Scouts and developed his love of reading.

Jim served his country in the U.S Air Force from July, 1963 to June, 
1979 and left the service with the last rank of Technical Sergeant.&nbsp; 
During his&nbsp;time in uniform, he served in the Vietnam War and received a 
commendation.&nbsp; &nbsp;While in the military Jim was united in marriage to 
Carrie Lorena Oswald on January 28, 1967, at Sacred Heart Church in 
Emmeram, Kansas.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three&nbsp;children: Mable, 
Sean, and Ian. After moving to many locations across the United States 
and overseas&nbsp;he retired to Paradise, Kansas, where they lived for almost 
20 years.&nbsp; After his service, he worked in the oil&nbsp;field for about 15 
years and then did computer&nbsp;work for about 9 years.&nbsp; He is a member of 
St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gorham, Kansas.&nbsp; In his spare time he 
enjoyed tinkering on old computers, reading, and spending time with his 
family and friends.

Jim’s surviving family includes his wife, Carrie Dolven of Ellsworth,
 Kansas; daughter, Mable Walker (Larry) of Ellsworth, Kansas; sons, Sean
 Dolven of Camdenton, Missouri, and Ian Dolven of Lawrenceville, 
Georgia; five sisters, Petra Dennis of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Patti 
Baker (Dennis) of Tuolumne, California; Peggy Contreraz (Billy) of 
Billings, Montana; Terry Holman (Jerry) of Thomasboro, Illinois, and 
Kathy Scheet of Rushville, Illinois; granddaughter, Brittni Leiker 
(Jamie) and great grandson, Michael Dawson.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents.

Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30am Tuesday, 
June 14, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Gorham, Kansas. Burial 
will follow at the Emmeram Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 
9:00am to 8:00pm Monday, June 13, 2022, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler 
Mortuary of Russell with the&nbsp;family present to greet friends from 6:00pm

James H. Dolven

Dorothy Nider was born on May 24th, 1926, to Claude Nider and Mathilde 
(Tillie) Wolters Nider in Fairbury, NE.&nbsp; She was the 4th of 8 children 
born to them.&nbsp; The Nider family moved south of Harbine, NE, in 1933 and 
then to Knowles, CA in 1945 for Claude’s health which was near his 
sister.

Dorothy would tell her children that times were tough growing up, but
 living on a farm they had fresh farm products such as milk, cream, 
butter, chickens, eggs, and pork. Summer time garden of carrots, beans, 
tomatoes and potatoes were canned and along with summer sausage were put
 in the cellar for the winter.

Dorothy’s parents moved to Burlington, CO during wheat harvest of 
1949, and she came to Burlington on her vacation that summer. It was on a
 Saturday night that Dorothy’s brother, Louis, took her to the Armory to
 meet the gang around town, where Gene Penny asked her to dance. Later, 
Gene asked her to go to the show. After going back to her work in 
California, Gene and Dorothy would write letters and talk on the phone. 
&nbsp;California and its warm climate pulled at her, also leaving sisters who
 were there, but she still decided to return to Burlington following her
 heart.

Mr. Reinecker, at the Bank of Burlington, hired Dorothy as a teller 
which she loved. She was thankful for the job so she could stay in 
Burlington.

Gene and Dorothy were married 6 mo. later on May 28, 1950. Five 
children were born to them; Norman, Gary, Gregory, Kevin and Julie. They
 were blessed with 14 grandchildren, which they loved dearly.

Gene and Dorothy had a wonderful life playing golf, dancing, 
painting, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.&nbsp; 
Their house was always active with the neighborhood clan as they had a 
trampoline and generally cookies (diet ones during wrestling season). 
Gene and Dorothy would take their children to worship at the Methodist 
Church which is located across the street from their house.&nbsp; Dorothy did
 the books for the church for many years. She also trained her 
daughters-in-laws to help with harvest meals.&nbsp; Dorothy was a dedicated 
member of PEO Chapter AX for 69 years.&nbsp;

Gene died after a severe heart attack on April 20, 1998, at 73 years 
old.&nbsp; She would also lose her oldest son, Norman, age 54, while on a 
bike ride with his brother, Gary.&nbsp; Dorothy was very energetic and in her
 later years, she loved to have her hair fixed Friday morning and then 
play bridge on Friday afternoon.&nbsp; She would let her children know that 
it was important to have good cards and a good partner.&nbsp; She continued 
doing morning yoga &amp; pilates until her last few months.&nbsp; Dorothy 
went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday June the 4th at the age 
of 96 with family by her side.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents Claude and Mathilde, 
sisters Lucille &amp; Betty, brother Louis, husband Gene and son 
Norman.&nbsp;

She is survived by sisters Arleen, Maxine &amp; Marilyn (Al), brother
 Dale, sons Gary (Lynette), Greg (Tara), Kevin (Jeana), daughter Julie 
(Dub) and a daughter-in-law Susanne, her grandchildren, 
great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her.

Dorothy Lydia (Nider) Penny

Trevor Alfred Korbe, 17, died on Sunday, June 5, 2022, in Wichita County.
 He was born on July 11, 2004, in Garden City the son of Travis &amp; 
Amber (Badger) Korbe. 
Trevor attended early school at Sharon Springs where he was involved 
with football, track and power lifting. For the past two years he has 
attended Holcomb High School and continued power lifting and became part
 of the Holcomb SADD program. He enjoyed gaming and making people 
smile. 
He is survived by his Father- Travis Korbe of Wallace, Mother- Amber 
Badger of Holcomb, Grandmothers- Paula Korbe of Sharon Springs and Donna
 Badger of Holcomb, Great-Grandmother- Berna Scott of Sharon Springs, 5 
Brothers- David Korbe, Ethan Korbe, Tyler Korbe Travis Korbe all of 
Wallace and Spencer Jacobs of Laramie, Wyoming and 2 Sisters- Emilee 
Korbe of Wallace and Shayla Clark of Deerfield. 
Funeral Service will be at 2:00 PM MDT Monday at United Methodist Church
 in Sharon Springs with Rev Gaylen Crippen officiating. Burial will be

Trevor Alfred Korbe

Larry K. Owens, 80, died Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at SunPorch of Dodge City.

He was born August 28, 1941, at Dighton, Kansas, the son of Merritt 
and Viola (Maser) Owens.&nbsp; He was a graduate of Dodge City High School 
and a longtime Dodge City resident.&nbsp; He was a farmer and enjoyed horse 
racing.&nbsp; He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Dodge 
City, and the Jockey Club.

Survivors include: 2 sons, Wes and wife Shannon and Bryan and wife 
Cynthia all of Dodge City; 3 grandchildren, Aubrey Owens, New York City,
 New York, Alivia Owens, Grand Blanc, Michigan and Canyon Owens, Dodge 
City; 2 brothers, Don Owens and Gerald Owens and wife Carol all of Dodge
 City; and a sister, Jeanette Gregory, Carlsbad, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Alanna Owens.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 am Saturday, June 18, 2022, at 
Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, with Jeff Hiers officiating.&nbsp; There

Larry K. Owens

Ramona Tefft, 91, a longtime resident of Great Bend, now residing in 
Wichita, Kansas, passed away June 8, 2022, at Harry Hynes Hospice in 
Wichita. She was born in Hoisington, Kansas, on August 23, 1930, the 
daughter of Willard “Bus” &amp; Frances Fern (Kent) Hall. Ramona married
 Maurice R. Tefft on June 26, 1949, in Hoisington. Maurice passed away 
on November 10, 1980. She and Maurice were members of the First United 
Methodist Church in Great Bend for many years.

Ramona was a graduate of Hoisington High School. Following 
graduation, she briefly worked as a bookkeeper, then once married, she 
and Maurice moved to Great Bend. She became a full-time homemaker, until
 he passed. She then went to work at Westwood Racquetball Club as a 
bookkeeper, then became a traveling relief care companion for Loving 
Care, Inc., of Pratt, Kansas. At age 70, she retired and moved to 
Olathe, Kansas, then to Wichita, Kansas, at age 80 to be near her eldest
 daughter’s family. She kept very busy playing bridge at many of the 
local senior centers three times a week, until her health declined.

Survivors include, a daughter, Maureen (Dave) Henning of Wichita, 
Kan.; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Hall of Martinez, Ga.; a son-in-law, 
Bruce Brooks of Lawrence, Kan.; three grandchildren, Erin Brooks of 
Lawrence, Kan., Megan Brooks of Shawnee, Kan. and Michelle (Mike) 
Cottingham of Wichita, Kan.; 4 great grandchildren; 1 great great 
grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by
 her husband, Maurice Tefft; a daughter, Shelley V. Brooks; her sister, 
Aileen Bryant; and two brothers, Bob and Kent Hall.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 14, 
2022, at Bryant Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 11:00 
a.m., Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at the Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials

Ramona Tefft

James K. “Jim” DeWald, 86, died June 6, 2022, at Kansas Heart 
Hospital, Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born January 4, 1936, in Hoisington, 
Kansas, the son of Jacob R. and Gertrude (Schwein) DeWald.&nbsp; Jim was a 
graduate of Hoisington High School.

A lifetime Barton County resident, Jim was a farmer and had worked in
 the oil field for Lane Wells and also with his brother Vernon laying 
carpet and tile.&nbsp; He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in 
Galatia and was a former volunteer firefighter with the Galatia Fire 
Department. He also ran the road grader in the township and was 
caretaker of the Fairview Cemetery for many years.

On May 9, 1966, he married Georgetta Jean Hester. She preceded him in death on November 25, 2020.

He is survived by two daughters; Ann Janzen and husband Stan of 
Buhler, and Stephanie Hermes and husband Chris of West Des Moines, Iowa; 
six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, Vernon DeWald and sister, Doris Boxberger.

A graveside inurnment service will be held at a later date at Fairview Cemetery, Galatia.

Theodore V. “Teddy” Gingrich, 80, passed away June 6, 2022, at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, KS.

He was born October 12, 1941, in Larned, the son of Ted Warder and 
Lola Emma Buhrer Gingrich.&nbsp; A lifetime area resident, he was a 
Farmer/Stockman.

He was a member of the Church of Christ, St. John, where he served as
 an Elder.&nbsp; He enjoyed Church, Farming and spending time with family and
 his dog, Roxie.

On October 22, 1961, he married Carol Ann McBride in St. John, KS.&nbsp; She survives.

Other survivors include: three daughters, Shari (Jim) Soukup, Desert 
Hills, AZ, Serena (Tim) Neidig, Belpre, KS, Lori (Brent) LaMar, Desert 
Hills, AZ; two sisters, Martha (Vince) Guzzo, Overland Park, KS, Vivian 
Johnston, Lenexa, KS; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved dog, Roxie.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be 10 a.m. 
Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Larned United Methodist Church with Carl 
Feril presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June

Teddy V. Gingrich

Maxine Elsie Starkey was born on November 8, 1922, on the family farm in 
Rawlins County, Kansas, to Peter T. and Mary F. Nelson. She had two older
 siblings, Orvis and Zelma. Shortly thereafter the family of five 
welcomed a new brother, Dale. This brother became a favorite playmate of
 Maxine’s. 
Maxine took care of her mother for a year after she graduated high 
school. She then taught school for a year at a one room country school. 
She went one year to Ft Hays; then returned and taught school in Gem, KS
 for three years to earn enough money to complete college. She finished 
her final three years in college and graduated from Ft. Hays State with 
double English and History majors. 
Maxine met her husband Clifton at Ft. Hays. They married on December 26,
 1948, at the Colby Presbyterian Church in Colby, KS. They both taught 
school in Liberal KS for two years. 
The couple purchased a farm in 1951 south of Brewster, KS. They welcomed
 four children, Lynda, Allen, and Galen. The family was extremely 
involved at the Brewster United Methodist Church where Maxine taught 
Sunday School and was active in the women’s group. 
Maxine passed away at Citizens Medical Center in Colby, KS on June 6, 
2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband and 
son Allen. She is survived by three children, Lynda, Leann and Galen; a 
son-in-law, John Carter; and two granddaughters, Rachel and Reillee. She
 is also survived by many relatives and loving friends. 
The family will receive friends starting at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 10, 
2022, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby, then process to Beulah Cemetery, 
Colby, for a Graveside Service at 2:00 p.m.

 </figure>Maxine Elsie Starkey was born on November 8, 1922, on the family farm in 
Rawlins County, Kansas, to Peter T. and Mary F. Nelson. She had two older
 siblings, Orvis and Zelma. Shortly thereafter the family of five 
welcomed a new brother, Dale. This brother became a favorite playmate of
 Maxine’s. 
Maxine took care of her mother for a year after she graduated high 
school. She then taught school for a year at a one room country school. 
She went one year to Ft Hays; then returned and taught school in Gem, KS
 for three years to earn enough money to complete college. She finished 
her final three years in college and graduated from Ft. Hays State with 
double English and History majors. 
Maxine met her husband Clifton at Ft. Hays. They married on December 26,
 1948, at the Colby Presbyterian Church in Colby, KS. They both taught 
school in Liberal KS for two years. 
The couple purchased a farm in 1951 south of Brewster, KS. They welcomed
 four children, Lynda, Allen, and Galen. The family was extremely 
involved at the Brewster United Methodist Church where Maxine taught 
Sunday School and was active in the women’s group. 
Maxine passed away at Citizens Medical Center in Colby, KS on June 6, 
2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband and 
son Allen. She is survived by three children, Lynda, Leann and Galen; a 
son-in-law, John Carter; and two granddaughters, Rachel and Reillee. She
 is also survived by many relatives and loving friends. 
The family will receive friends starting at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 10, 
2022, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby, then process to Beulah Cemetery, 
Colby, for a Graveside Service at 2:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the

Maxine Elsie Starkey

Lisa Marie VonFeldt passed away in her home on June 6, 2022, at the age 
of 58 after her four-year battle with cancer. She was born on January 9,
 1964, to Leo and Dorothy (Goetz) in Kanorado, Kansas.
 Lisa grew up in Rooks County where she attended Palco High School 
and graduated with the class of 1982. After high school, Lisa obtained a
 bachelor’s degree in Agra Business from Fort Hays State University and 
then entered the workforce in Hays, Kansas working for the Amphenol 
Adronics for 20 years working as a line leader, lab tech, and auditor. 
She finished out her working career at the Rooks County Health Center 
where she worked for almost 10 years when her health began to decline. 
Lisa enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest; she was happy, kind, and 
family-oriented. Her passion to spend time reading, crocheting, or 
finding a good place to eat could only be matched by her time spent with
 her nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Lisa was a member of 
the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville and the St. Joseph 
Catholic Church in Hays as well as a member of the D of I.
 A hardworking woman of faith, hope, and love, Lisa showed us all by 
her life that the greatest of these is love. Although she will be 
greatly missed, she will live forever in the hearts of those who knew 
her best, for they were greatly loved.
 She is survived by her mother, Dorothy VonFeldt of Palco, KS;

With great sadness, we report the passing of Captain Ronald Thielen, PO614&nbsp;on Sunday November 7, 2021.&nbsp;&nbsp;Ron was at home in Gilbert, Arizona, with his wife, Mary, when&nbsp;he succumbed&nbsp;to heart disease after a long and valiant battle.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Captain&nbsp;Ron, as his friends knew him,&nbsp;was born on December 13, 1945, and&nbsp;hailed from Dorrance, a small town in central Kansas.&nbsp; Ron was already a licensed pilot&nbsp;when he attended university in Kansas.&nbsp; He then volunteered to become a pilot for the United States Marine Corps, where he flew the photo-reconnaissance version of the Grumman A-6 Intruder in Vietnam.&nbsp; Ron was "in country" for ten months.&nbsp; Many of Ron's missions involved&nbsp;intelligence&nbsp;gathering as he flew over the infamous Ho Chi Minh trail.&nbsp; While stationed in Vietnam, Ron was exposed to the defoliant Agent Orange, which negatively impacted his health in his later years.&nbsp; After his service in the Marine Corps, Ron became type-rated in the Lear Jet and Cessna Citation, and flew for a Texas-based film production company.&nbsp; On February 16th of 1987, Ron was hired by America West Airlines, where he was based in Phoenix, Arizona.&nbsp; Ron flew the Boeing 737-100, 200. and 300, now called the Boeing 737 Classic.&nbsp; After his upgrade to Captain on the 737, Ron transitioned to the Airbus A320, and flew both the A319 and A320 to destinations in the United States, as well as Mexico and Canada, until his retirement in 2002.&nbsp;&nbsp;Ron particularly enjoyed flying the Airbus to Anchorage, Alaska.

When Ron was not flying, he enjoyed riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and regularly made the yearly pilgrimage to Sturgis, South Dakota.&nbsp; Ron was also an avid sportsman and outdoorsman, who participated in the Kansas deer harvest for many years.&nbsp; Ron was very patriotic, and was proud of his military service.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ron is survived by his spouse, Mary Thielen, of Gilbert, Arizona, as well as daughters Cherrie Jo of Georgia, Deanna of Nebraska, and son Dallas, who lives in Arizona; sister Kay Robinson of Hoisington, Kansas. &nbsp;Ron was also close to his three stepsons, JD and Paul Gallagher of Colorado, and Andrew Gallagher, who lives in Arizona.&nbsp; Ron was a highly-regarded Captain.&nbsp; Those of us who knew Ron remember him as a quick-witted, clever pilot, and a devoted and loyal family man&nbsp;with&nbsp;strong&nbsp;friendships.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Cremation has been selected by the family. &nbsp;A memorial funeral mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, June 17, 2022, at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dorrance, Kansas. &nbsp;Burial of the cremains will follow at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Dorrance, Kansas. &nbsp;Military honors will be performed by the Russell V.F.W. Post 6240. &nbsp;Family will&nbsp;greet guests the day of the service. &nbsp;A reception will be held&nbsp;in the building next to the cemetery&nbsp;after the service. &nbsp;

Bob Michel, 79, passed away June 3, 2022, at Smith County Hospital in Smith Center. He was born June 13, 1942, in Beloit to John and Hilda (Rein) Michel. 

He was a farmer and avid antique collector.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte of the home; children R.J. Michel of Andover KS, Lee Ann Michel of Lincoln NE, Allen Schweitzer of Downs, Perry Schweitzer of Osborne, Ronda Cameron of Osborne; brothers Lawrence Michel of Downs  and Jerry Michel of Phillipsburg; sisters Betty Wolters of Portis, Sue Witham of Salina, 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Peggy Ann Crumb, 73, died June 7, 2022, at St. Catherine Hospital of 
Dodge City. She was born on September 2, 1948, at Hays, Kansas, the 
daughter of Sylvan and Mary (Niblock) Harris.

Peggy grew up in Plainville and was a graduate of Plainville High 
School. She then attended Fort Hays State University and later moved to 
Dodge City. On February 10, 1968, she married Dale R. Crumb in Dodge 
City. Peggy worked at Manor of the Plains and later for Bright 
Beginnings Early Childhood Center and also at Dillons. She loved reading
 (especially romance novels) and spending time with her family. Peggy 
was a very giving person and would do anything for anyone including 
being a foster grandmother.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Dodge City.

Peggy is survived by her three children, Brian Crumb and Maricela of 
Dodge City, Rita Ortiz and Vic of Dodge City, and Randy Crumb and 
Peaches of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren, Jeremy, Jessica, Jennifer,
 Angelica, Andrew, Deanna, Valerie, Victor, Vincent, Aysia, Eric, and 
Ashlynn; eight great grandchildren; and three brothers, Dennis Harris of
 Minneapolis, Floyd Harris of Downs, and Larry Harris of Solomon.She was
 preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale Crumb; and 
daughter, Debra Goodwin.

Funeral service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Friday, June 
10, 2022, at 10:30 AM with Mr. Jeff&nbsp; Hiers presiding.&nbsp; Burial will follow

Dale Laverne Clews

Michelle Janette Kaiser, 55, died June 6, 2022, at Ascension Via 
Christi St. Francis, Wichita, Kansas. She was born October 24, 1966, in 
Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Martin James and Kary Sue (Overbaugh) 
Miller.&nbsp; Michelle was a 1985 graduate for Hoisington High School and 
went on to graduate from Barton County Community College.

On October 24, 1987, she married Randy Joseph Kaiser at Concordia Lutheran Church in Hoisington.

A lifetime Hoisington area resident, Michelle was a teacher at 
Roosevelt Elementary School in Hoisington.&nbsp; She started as a teacher’s 
aide in 1988 and has been a 3 year old &nbsp;pre-school teacher for many 
years. Each child was deeply loved and cared for under her guidance.

A strong woman of faith, Michelle was a member of Concordia Lutheran 
Church where she taught both Sunday School and Bible School, and was a 
member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the church choir. 
She also attended Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a member of the 
bell choir.

Michelle was born and raised on a dairy farm and always loved to work
 with animals. She was involved in the Eureka Homesteaders 4-H &nbsp;Club as a
 child, showing dairy cows, and later as a leader with her children.&nbsp; 
She loved summers on the farm helping with harvest, whether it was 
driving truck, tractor or the combine or helping prepare the meal with 
her mother.

Survivors include; her husband of 34 years, Randy Joseph Kaiser of 
the home; and three children, Brianna Rachelle Boller and husband Sean 
of Garden City, Sarah Sue Wilson and husband Christian of Colby, and 
Jeffrey James Kaiser and fiance Amy Christopher of Hoisington; parents, 
Jim and Kary Miller of Hoisington; sister, Cynthia Lockwood and husband 
Kent of Great Bend; and brothers, Troy Miller and wife Carrie, and Mark 
Miller, all of Great Bend; mother-in-law, Shirley Miller of Hoisington; 
&nbsp;many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and most 
importantly her two grandchildren, Emerson Grace Boller and Olivia James
 Wilson.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Martin &amp; Juanita 
Miller, and Fred &amp; Beulah Overbaugh, and father-in-law, Walter 
Kaiser.

Visitation will be Thursday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, with family 
to greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Friday, June 10, 2022, at Concordia 
Lutheran Church, with Pastor Gary Wolf presiding.&nbsp; Burial will follow in
 Hoisington Cemetery.

Christi St. Francis, Wichita, Kansas. She was born October 24, 1966, in 
Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Martin James and Kary Sue (Overbaugh) 
Miller.&nbsp; Michelle was a 1985 graduate for Hoisington High School and 
went on to graduate from Barton County Community College.On October 24, 1987, she married Randy Joseph Kaiser at Concordia Lutheran Church in Hoisington.A lifetime Hoisington area resident, Michelle was a teacher at 
Roosevelt Elementary School in Hoisington.&nbsp; She started as a teacher’s 
aide in 1988 and has been a 3 year old &nbsp;pre-school teacher for many 
years. Each child was deeply loved and cared for under her guidance.A strong woman of faith, Michelle was a member of Concordia Lutheran 
Church where she taught both Sunday School and Bible School, and was a 
member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and the church choir. 
She also attended Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a member of the

Weldon John Carlin passed away June 3, 2022, at the Logan Manor Community
 Health Services at the age of 81. He was born January 18, 1941, in 
Speed, KS to John Edward and Helen (McCall) Carlin.
 Willie grew up in Logan and Lenora, KS and was a 1959 Lenora High 
School graduate. He went on to attend a trade school in Kansas City for 
auto body work. Willie married Carol Glennemeier on February 9, 1961, and
 lived in Kansas City until he completed his schooling. 
 They moved back to Norton and started 60 years of life together 
which included bringing up four kids, Kathy, Marcelyn, John, and Brad. 
Willie worked for 48 years at New Look Body Shop in Norton, KS. He 
served on the Norton City Fire Department from 1966-1984 and was the 
Chief from 1981-1984. Throughout his career he worked with 52 different 
men on the fire department. Willie was instrumental in building the fire
 department into what it is today. In his spare time, you would almost 
always find Willie and Carol together, from playing dice and games in 
the evenings to camping and traveling together. For their 50th wedding 
anniversary their family held a game night. Willie also enjoyed toy 
trains and woodworking with a scroll saw. 
 Willie is survived by his children: Kathy Carlin of Norton, Marcelyn
 Carlin of Hill City, John Carlin of Norton, and Brad Carlin and his 
wife Chris of Norcatur; grandchildren: Kyle &amp; Stephanie Carlin and 
their kids Lauren and Evan, Donald and Kylie Eggleston and their kids, 
Vicki, Kori, Liam, and Jade, and Brian Carlin, Heath Welch and his 
daughter, Raelynn, Alex Fischer, and Chance Keiswetter; brother, Harold 
Carlin of McCook, NE, and sister, Irene Koester of Logan, KS. He was 
preceded in death by his parents, wife, Carol; grandson, Lucas Welch; 
sister, Dorothy Shoemaker; sister-in-law, Teresa Carlin, and niece, Deb 
Koester.
 Memorial services will be held 10:30 am Saturday, June 11, 2022, at

Maxine Elsie Starkey (Nelson)

Mary Anne Johnson, 84, of rural Bogue, Kansas, died June 6, 2022, at Dawson Place in Hill City.
 	She was born January 5, 1938, in Phillipsburg, the only child of 
Alvena (Sims) and Marion Francis Kinney. Anne attended schools in 
Richfield, Coolidge, Rexford, and Webster and was a 1955 graduate of 
Long Island High School. She married Loren Johnson June 5, 1955, at the 
Stockton Methodist Church. They celebrated 67 years of marriage this 
month. The couple made their home on a farm north of Bogue.
 	Anne was a member of the Bogue Community United Methodist Church, 
United Methodist Women, and Builders Class. She worked for 25 years at 
the Farmers State Bank in Bogue. She served two terms on the Graham 
County Library Board and over 25 years as the Graham County United 
Methodist Parish Treasurer. She also held various offices in TPM Club, 
Builders Class, United Methodist Women and Harmony Bridge Club. She was a
 Cub Scout Den Mother, 4-H leader, Sunday School teacher, Church board 
member and served on the first Graham County Parish Council when it was 
formed in 1971.
 	Anne was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by three
 sons: Steven Johnson and wife Sheryl of Oakley, Terry Johnson and wife 
Suzanne of Lawrence, Corey Johnson and wife Joanne of Bogue; three 
daughters: Vicki Johnson of Bogue, Sherri Brown and husband Troy of 
Hays, and Jessica Dirks and husband Troy of Garden City; 18 
grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Surname Degenhardt is composed of Old High German degan ‘young warrior’, hart ‘strong’. &nbsp;A fitting title for this man. &nbsp;

Kenneth&nbsp;E. Degenhardt, age 81, residing in Mulvane, Kansas, ended his fight with a form of progressive dementia on May 31st, 2022, at St. Francis Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas.

Kenny was born January 26th, 1941, in Pfeifer, Kansas, to Casper and Anna Margaret (Urban) Degenhardt. &nbsp;He grew up in attendance of the Holy Cross Catholic School in Pfeifer, Kansas, with daily duties as an altar boy. &nbsp;His childhood initials, still etched into a pew in the church.

In January of 1961, Kenny answered the call of duty by enlisting in the US Air Force. &nbsp;His pride in serving this country became an inflection point for all the experiences and “service to others” that would follow. &nbsp;

Trained as an electrician, Kenny owned and operated Degenhardt’s Heating and Air Conditioning in Hays, Kansas. &nbsp;He provided outstanding service to his customers for over two decades.

He also served 16 years as the Director of Facilities at the Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation in Wichita, Kansas. &nbsp;Kenny’s desire to serve others was never more appreciated by a group of people.

Not one to let the moss grow, Kenny continued to serve his military brothers and sisters after retiring. &nbsp;A celebrated volunteer recognized for the many hours of distinguished service, he absolutely loved his work at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center. &nbsp;

Kenny was predeceased by his parents; &nbsp;his brother, Vernon Degenhardt and an infant brother, Larry Degenhardt; his sisters, Viola “Effie” Fiffe, Ruby Antrim, Cleopha (Cleo) Klein; and his grand-daughter, Erynn Hanna.

He is survived by his wife, Jill Degenhardt of Mulvane, Kansas; Sister, Sylvia Kruse (Dave) of Hoxie, Kansas; Sister-in-law, Virginia Degenhardt of Branson, Missouri; Children: Keith Degenhardt of Hays, Kansas; Karen Rush (Rob) of Evans, Colorado; Kay Guzman (Dan) of Wichita, Kansas; Kirk Degenhardt of Hays, Kansas; &nbsp;Keri Sutter (Zac Nelling) of Oak Grove, Missouri; &nbsp;Kindra Degenhardt of Derby, Kansas; &nbsp;Kim Hanna (Eric) of Midlothian, Texas; &nbsp;Steve Griffin of Wichita, Kansas; 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on June 17th, at the North Woodlawn Baptist Church, 1409 N. Woodlawn Blvd, Derby, Kansas. &nbsp;Reception to follow internment.
