Johnney “John” Lee Guffey, 81, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022, surrounded by his family at Hillsboro Community Hospital.&nbsp; Over the years, he worked for San Ore, Mistletoe Express, Beaver Express, and Prairieland Partners.&nbsp;

John was born on February 26, 1941, in Fairlane, OK, the son of Vernon M. and Ruby (May) Guffey.&nbsp; He graduated from Codell High School.&nbsp; He served in the United States Army from October 31, 1963 to October 29, 1965.&nbsp; On December 29, 1969, John was united in marriage to Kay F. Basgall in Loretta, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three children, Jeffrey, Brian, and Betty.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion Post #24.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Kay of the home; two children, Brian Guffey of McPherson, KS and Betty Laney (Josh) of Walton, KS; four grandchildren, Kane Guffey, Katelyn Guffey, Nichole Yianakopulos, and Caleb Laney; two great-grandchildren, Landyn Koons and Koda McFadden; a brother, Richard Guffey (Deb) of Hays, KS; sister-in-law, Carol Guffey of Brunswick, GA; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald Guffey; sister, Janis Johnson; a son, Jeffrey Guffey; a grandson, Trenton Yianakopulos; and daughter-in-law, Cindy Guffey.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; A Rosary will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, June 17, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Ben Shockey officiating.&nbsp; Burial with Military Honors will follow at McPherson Cemetery.

Shielda Joy Jeffery, 88, passed away at the Park Lane Nursing Home in
 Scott City on June 11, 2022, after a brief illness. She was born in 
Abilene, Kansas, on October 29, 1933, and remained a Kansas native, 
calling Scott City home for the last 64 years.

She was a caring, considerate, and generous family member and friend.
 Shielda invested a lot of time into letter writing, card mailing, 
memory keeping, and phone conversations. She had a giving heart, always 
looking for ways to help those around her.

In 1999, Shielda retired from Scott Pro after 25 years of service. 
She lived out her retirement in the community she loved and raised her 
three boys in.

Shielda is survived by three sons, Stan Lacey and Lisa of Rio Vista, 
CA, Craig Lacey and Connie of Sterling, KS, Malcolm Lacey and Rosa of 
Redondo Beach, CA; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one sister,
 Jean Elmquist and Jerry of Sacramento, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Evadena Madden, and her brother, Glenn Madden Jr.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, 
July 16, 2022, at the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas with 
Steve Payne presiding.

Josephine Cecelia Urban, Age 96, of 
Ellis, Kansas passed away Saturday, June 11, 2022, at the Good Samaritan
 Society, Ellis. She was born August 7, 1925, in Hays, Kansas to Joseph 
and Cunnigunda (Korbe) Augustine. She married Alfred Urban in Hays. He 
preceded her in death August 18, 1981.

Josephine was a homemaker as well as a 
long-time babysitter for numerous families in the Hays and Ellis area. 
Josephine had also worked at the City Café in Ellis and Dan’s Café in 
Hays. She was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis and she 
enjoyed gardening.&nbsp;

Josephine is survived by a son, James 
Urban and his wife Jill of Ellis; two grandsons, Clint and Kevin Urban 
both of Ellis; two brothers, Robert Augustine and Laverne Augustine and 
wife Betty all of Hays; and a sister-in-law, Rosie Augustine of Hays.

She was preceded in death by a 
grandson, Kyle Urban; brothers, Alfred, Marvin, Ralph, and Francis 
Augustine; sisters, Mary Ann (Younger) (Whitaker), Lucille Younger, and 
Norma Weigel; brother-in-law’s, Mike Younger, Charles Whitaker, Elmer 
Younger, and Art Weigel and sister-in-law’s, Ernestine Augustine, 
Rozanne Augustine, Betty Augustine, and Luella Augustine.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M. 
Wednesday, June 15th, 2022, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church 
in Hays with Fr. Dana Clark officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s 
Cemetery in Hays following services at the church.

Dorothy Marie “Dottie” (Beaty) Brown, 95, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Monday, June 6, 2022, at Main Street Manor in Russell, Kansas.

Dottie was born January 19, 1927, in Snyder, Texas.&nbsp; She was the daughter of Albert and Gladys M. (Gibbons) Beaty.&nbsp; Dorothy’s mother Gladys raised her two children during the depression on her own.&nbsp; It was hard times and they moved allot.&nbsp; Her favorite town growing up was Goldsmith, Texas.&nbsp; In the 1940’s she attended Snowden, Texas dramatic school and studied acting and voice training.&nbsp; While in collage she worked as a carhop at the “Triple Ex” drive-in.

Dottie was united in marriage to Kenny Dole on June 22, 1947, in Russell.&nbsp; They were blessed with two children; Nancy and William.&nbsp; They were divorced after 20 years of marriage.&nbsp; Later she was united in marriage to Marvin Brown on July 14, 1979 in Estes Park, Colorado.&nbsp;&nbsp; They lived in Sterling, Colorado until Marvin’s death on September 19, 2002.

Dottie was a member of the largest sorority of women, a Homemaker. In her words, “She tried to give her kids what she didn’t have, a home.” She attended Methodist Churches all of her life.&nbsp; She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Ladies V.F.W. Post #6240 Auxiliary.&nbsp; She enjoyed reading and staying up with the latest fashions, films and hair styles, collecting antiques and spending time with her family and friends. She created a fashion and film library for her grandson Dustin to use in his studies in college.

Dottie’s surviving family include her son, William Dole of Russell, Kansas; two grandchildren, Shane Poche’ of Russell, Kansas and Dustin Poche’ of Russell, Kansas; great grandchildren Hanna Chandler, Savannah Barlow and Taylor Barlow.

Dottie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin, daughter Nancy Poche’-Stoppel, and brother Roy Beaty.

Darlene M. Curry passed away on June 10, 2022,&nbsp;in Salina, Kansas at the age of 84. She was born to Leo and Lola (Benoit) Thibault on May 13, 1938,&nbsp;in Rooks County, Kansas on the family farm near Damar. Darlene was united in marriage to Rex Curry on June 27, 1957,&nbsp;in Osborne, Kansas at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church. The couple was blessed with five children: Kendall, Cheryl,&nbsp;Dale,&nbsp;Mark, and Darren.

Darlene grew up in Osborne where she graduated from Osborne High School in 1956. Following high school,&nbsp;she married Rex,&nbsp;and&nbsp;after the loss of Dale the couple moved from&nbsp;Smith Center&nbsp;to make their&nbsp;home in Plainville, Kansas. Darlene went to work for&nbsp;Travelnol&nbsp;in Hays, Kansas as one of the first and last employees of the business.

Once&nbsp;Travenol&nbsp;relocated,&nbsp;she went to work as head of housekeeping for Redbud Village for several years&nbsp;and then continued to keep busy&nbsp;with odd jobs and&nbsp;her&nbsp;grandchildren.&nbsp;She and Rex were also locally known for their firework stand that helped the community celebrate the 4th&nbsp;of July for 35 years.&nbsp;She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and D of I.

Darlene enjoyed sewing, gardening, and baking. She was&nbsp;known&nbsp;for her pies, and the amount she would bake at a time&nbsp;-&nbsp;18! Her husband even invented a little device to help carry 4 pies at a time.&nbsp;If she wasn’t enjoying time with her family, baking a plethora of pies, Darlene enjoyed testing her luck at casinos or getting away on a camping trip.&nbsp;

As a woman of strong faith and love, her family was second only to God. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but the celebration of her life and memories will forever remain.

She is survived by her children, Kendall (Sheryl) Curry of Topeka, KS, Cheryl&nbsp;Schremmer(Chuck) of Salina, KS, Mark (Rhonda) Curry of Florence, KS,&nbsp;and&nbsp;Darren Curry of Salina, KS; siblings, Delmar (Marilyn) Thibault of La Crosse, KS, Leola Crittenden of Albuquerque, NM, Sister Carmella Thibault of Concordia, KS,&nbsp;Gerry Peterson of Salina, KS, Joyce (Dan) Rice of Hays, KS, Marion (Paul) Steichen of Salina, KS, Gary (Gayle) Thibault of Omaha, NE, Alvin (Danette) Thibault of&nbsp;Omaha,&nbsp;NE, Lonnie (Lea) Thibault of Osborne, KS, Lester Thibault of Osborne, Ks,&nbsp;and&nbsp;Bob Thibault of Topeka, KS; eight grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Darlene joins in her heavenly home, her parents, Leo and Lola Thibault; husband Rex Curry; and son, Dale Curry.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 20, 2022,&nbsp;at 10:30 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville. Visitation will be on Sunday at the funeral home from 2 PM until 5 PM&nbsp;and will be moved to the church from 6 PM until 8PM with a&nbsp;Vigil Service and Rosary starting at 7 PM.

Longtime Kanorado, KS&nbsp;resident Marvin Eugene&nbsp;Thomas Sr., 65,&nbsp;passed away&nbsp;on Monday, June 13, 2022 at his home in Kanorado. He was born November 7, 1956, in Burlington, Colorado, to Lois L. and Kenneth L.&nbsp;Thomas.

Marvin was a member of the Lions Club in Kanorado, Kansas, for several years, on the Sherman County Rural Fire Department for 18 years, and a First Responder with the Sherman County Ambulance Service for 5 years.

Marvin&nbsp;attended&nbsp;school in Burlington and graduated from&nbsp;the Burlington High School&nbsp;with the class of&nbsp;1975.

On August 19, 1977, Marvin married Frances (Frankie) Adams in the Kanorado United Methodist Church.&nbsp;Two&nbsp;sons were born from this marriage,&nbsp;Marvin E Thomas Jr. of Kanorado, and Marshall A Thomas of Dallas TX.

Marvin worked from the time he was a kid starting at a young age delivering Milk door to door on the back of the Milk truck, he worked as a young man at Chuck’s Husky Gas station Burlington Co. he worked at the Howdy Partner Drive in doing dishes and cooking, Marvin worked for his soon to be Father in-law Roofing, worked picking up trash, and had his own trash business in Kanorado for several years, and Larry’s IGA Goodland Kansas, and went to work at the Kanorado Coop for 17 years as a gas station attendant, he worked farming jobs for several farmers&nbsp;in&nbsp;Colorado and around Kanorado, worked at Kit Carson County Correctional Burlington Colorado,&nbsp;he also worked for years for Coke a Cola Distribution Center in Goodland KS stocking Stores from Burlington,Colorado, Goodland,&nbsp;Kansas, to Colby,&nbsp;Kansas. In 2008 Marvin became sick and was disabled.

Marvin never lost his love for caring for people and helping anyone he could. He always checked in on 4 or 5 elderly people and did what he could for them. He loved playing Pool, going to car shows with the mannequins better known as the girls, doing Magic Tricks, working on his home, Woodwork, Yard Work, Fixing tires for people,&nbsp;helping people work on things, helping stranded people on the highway, and working on his 65&nbsp;chevy. The most prominent thing that everyone will remember is how honest, and caring person he was, and how he always gave his all to help his Family and Friends, and his love for people.

In December 2018 Marvin was diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer, over a 3 year period,he did 3 rounds of chemo,&nbsp;1 round of radiation, and 12 rounds&nbsp;of&nbsp;Keytruda, he also did freezing and dilation of the esophagus every&nbsp;4 to 6 weeks over the 3 year period, where he chose to stop all treatments and live life to the fullest. &nbsp;He was diagnosed with bone cancer in March of 2022 and the prognosis was not good.

Marvin is survived by his wife Frankie of Kanorado,&nbsp;sons&nbsp;Marvin E Thomas Jr.&nbsp;of&nbsp;Kanorado and&nbsp;Marshall&nbsp;A Thomas (Melanie) of Dallas TX, a brother Kenneth D. Thomas of Burlington CO, and 2 grandchildren Austin E. Thomas, and Abigail N. Thomas both from Delta Colorado, 2 brother in-laws Robert M. Adams (Robin) Greeley Colorado, and David T. Adams Jr of Kanorado, 3 Sister in-laws Sharon K. Mullis of Greeley Colorado, Kathy L. Campbell (Craig) Peoria Ill., and Wanda&nbsp;L.&nbsp;Fralick&nbsp;(Phil) of Kanorado, many&nbsp;cousins,&nbsp;nieces,&nbsp;nephews,&nbsp;aunts, and countless family and&nbsp;friends.

He was born July 6, 1981, in Hays, the son of David Allen and Judy Ann (Zimmerman) Tryon.

Helen Viola Rosenblad, 98, passed away June 10, 2022, at Thorne Care 
Center, Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp; She was born December 14, 1923, in Hutchinson, 
to Raymond Grant and Edith May (Hunter) Streeter.

Helen was a graduate of Hutchinson High School.&nbsp; She received a 
Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology and Physical Education from 
Baker University, Baldwin City, KS.&nbsp; Helen was a board member of the 
Southwest Kansas and Northwest Kansas Agencies on Aging.&nbsp; During her 
tenure as a board member, she helped establish a bus service for senior 
citizens and built central kitchens for the Minneola, KS, and Downs, KS,
 communities.&nbsp; Helen was a member of the City of Hutchinson Housing Task
 Force and City of Hutchinson Community Improvement Commission.&nbsp; She was
 a founder and director of Interfaith Housing and Community Services 
Inc., Hutchinson.&nbsp; Helen was recruited to join the Hutchinson Symphony 
Orchestra in 1966.&nbsp; She played second violin and remained as a musician 
with the symphony for 20 years.

On June 8, 1946, Helen married Rev. Ralph Alexander Rosenblad, at the
 First United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.&nbsp; They shared over 67 years 
of marriage, prior to his death on March 8, 2014.&nbsp; Being the wife of a 
pastor meant that she had to perform the duties of a pastor’s wife, from
 singing in the choir, providing cakes and casseroles for funeral 
dinners, to working with the activities of the children in the church.&nbsp; 
Helen and her husband served four churches in the New England United 
Methodist Church Conference and then relocated to Kansas, serving six 
churches in the Kansas West United Methodist Church Conference.&nbsp; She was
 passionate about both sides of the family genealogy which she 
researched and wrote about extensively.

She is survived by:&nbsp; her children, Signe (Glen) Rogers of Newton, KS,
 Eric (Kathy) Rosenblad of Pittsburg, KS, Kirstin (Robert) Zielke of 
Fowler, KS, and Lars (Christine Montfort) Rosenblad of rural Desmet, ID;
 bonus daughter, Dianna (Paul) Wright; grandchildren, Christian 
(Tabitha) Rosenblad, Rebekah (Dustin) Morris, Zane Zielke, Jonathan

Larry Fred Barnes, 74, passed away June 7, 2022, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, KS.

He was born November 26, 1947, in Goodland, KS, the son of John and 
Evelyn Schindler Barnes. He moved to Larned in 1978 with his wife 
Peggy.&nbsp; She passed in April 1989. He was a mechanic/ parts manager for 
Chevrolet dealerships for many years.

Most of His life revolved around cars. He used to drag race and 
enjoyed racing remote control cars. He loved his kids and grandkids.

Survivors include: three sons, Leonard Barnes, St. Francis, KS, 
Dustin Barnes, Larned, KS, Blain Barnes, Conway Springs, KS; daughter, 
Amber Barnes, Goodland, KS; five grandchildren, Jonathan Barnes, Eric

grandchildren.

Logan resident Leland R. Winkel passed away June 8, 2022 at the Sunshine Meadows Retirement Community in Buhler, KS at the age of 81.  He was born April 2, 1941, in Helena, MT.

Survivors include his daughter Darlene Post of Hill City; his sons, Gary of Hutchinson &amp; Darin of Salina; his brother Ralph of Wyoming; 6 grandchildren &amp; 1 great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 17 at 11:00 a.m. in the Logan Christian Church with Pastor Troy Buss officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hill City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 9:00 Thursday at the Logan Funeral Home.

Everett E. Boyle, born July 9, 1937, to Ethmer and 
Ardith (Wilcoxson) Boyle at Osborne, KS passed away June 10, 2022. 
Everett served in the USN 1955-1959 and retired from City of Salina 
General Services in 1997.

Married in 1961, he and Dorothy (Ahrens) raised five children: Donna 
(Dennis) Reedy, Concordia, Shirley (Kevin) McLeighton, Salina, Diane, 
deceased, Eric (Crystal), Salina, and Mark (Janelle), Salina. They enjoy
 grandchildren Erin, Adam, Matt, Emily, Jessica, Kathryne, Ashley, 
Aurora and Addison; and great grandchildren Zypher, Carter and Graham. A
 sister Linda Kimes and her husband Harv reside in Beatrice NE.

Everett spent time with Boy Scouts, amateur radio, antique cars, 
square dancing and playing cards. He volunteered at Rolling Hills Zoo, 
was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church and the American Legion.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at Ryan Mortuary. 
Graveside service at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 16 at Fairview Cemetery, 
Osborne County, KS.

Gayle Sharon (Royset) Unruh, 80, passed away May 30, 2022, at Azria 
Health in Great Bend, KS. She was born on May 20, 1942, to Sigurd and 
Borghild (Fugleston) Royset in Hettinger, North Dakota. &nbsp;After 
graduating High School she worked at the local bank and soon met her 
first husband, Rueben. They moved to Phoenix, AZ where they ran a 
successful transmission business together. After he passed, she met 
Loren Unruh and they were married on January 2, 1988 in Great Bend, KS. 
&nbsp;She quickly joined Loren in helping with the Black Angus and Best 
Western Angus Inn with her unique interior decorating style. Gayle loved
 shopping, traveling, reading and time spent with family and friends, 
especially the grandkids. She is survived by husband, Loren Unruh
 of Great Bend, KS; two step daughters, Shawnda (Stan) Misina of Wilton,
 NH and Krista (Rich) Osborne of Riverdale, NJ; grandchildren, Dake 
(Kristi) Unruh of Benton, KS, Priscilla (Travis) Wilson of Wilton, NH, 
Benjamin Garcia of Alpine, TX, Darian (Taylor) Unruh of Park City,KS,

Leroy P. Jacobs, age 82, of&nbsp;La Crosse, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, June7, 2022, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas after a brief illness. Leroy was born on September 20,&nbsp;1939, at La Crosse to Casper and Mary (Schmidt) Jacobs. He was united in marriage to Wilma&nbsp;Penka&nbsp;on January 13,&nbsp;1958, at Liebenthal, Kansas. Leroy farmed near La Crosse and raised cattle his whole&nbsp;life, and&nbsp;worked as Parts Manager for&nbsp;Dechant&nbsp;Motors in La Crosse for over thirty years.&nbsp; He was a longtime member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in La&nbsp;Crosse, and&nbsp;was a 3rd&nbsp;Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2970 at La Crosse. Leroy loved antiques and collectibles.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma L. Jacobs of La Crosse; two sons:&nbsp; Kevin (&amp; Susan) Jacobs of Irvine, California, and Randy (&amp; Lisa) Jacobs of Scott City, Kansas; two daughters:&nbsp; Michelle Higgins of Lenexa, Kansas, and Lori Jacobs (&amp; Harry Bizzell) of Salina, Kansas; four grandchildren:&nbsp; Caden Jacobs, Azure Miller, Jeremy Jacobs, and Zach Higgins; eight great-grandchildren:&nbsp; Kade Miller, Kinley Miller,&nbsp;Kase&nbsp;Miller, Micah Jacobs, Lily Jacobs, Elijah Jacobs, Judah Jacobs, and Kohen Jacobs; one brother Jerry (&amp; Kathy) Jacobs of Hays, Kansas and one sister Mary Lou Warren of Wichita, Kansas; nieces and nephews.

Kathy Gregory, 69, of Wichita, died peacefully on June 9, 2022, from complications related to Alzheimer’s Disease. 
 Kathy was born Kathryn Ruth Rohrbough to Dale Rohrbough and Irene Chvilicek on September 25th, 1952, in Oakley, Kansas. 
 The oldest of seven children, she grew up on the family farm in 
Logan and Scott Counties and attended a one room country school. Later, 
she graduated from High School at Scott City, Kansas in 1970. She 
attended Colby Community College on an art scholarship graduating in 
1972. She finished her bachelor’s degree in art education from Fort 
Hays State in 1974. She married John Gregory, a college classmate March
 2, 1974 at the Basilica of St. Fidelis Catholic church in Victoria, 
Kansas. Her art teaching career began with the Summerfield, Axtell and 
Bern school district in northeastern Kansas.&nbsp; Later, she taught 
elementary and junior high art at Osborne and Alton schools for several 
years. After pausing to have a family of two daughters, Robin and 
Crystal, she finished her master’s degree and taught elementary art at 
Southeast of Saline Schools in Saline County. She was named the Kansas 
Outstanding Elementary Art Educator for the school year of 2007 - 2008 
by the Kansas Art Education Association.&nbsp; Many adult students took 
college art classes from her when she taught drawing, painting, 
photography and pastel classes at night for Cloud County College over a 
period of fifteen years. 4-H members in Saline County knew her as a 
project leader for sketching and drawing for thirty years. The Assaria 
community also knew her as an active member of the Assaria Lions Club. 
 She is survived by her Husband, John of the home, Daughters, Robin 
Gregory of Oklahoma, Crystal Elliott (Nathan), their children and her 
grandchildren, William and Halle all of Wichita. Three sisters and two 
brothers also survive. 
 She is preceded in death by one brother.
 Family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Thursday, June

Martin A. “Sandy” Binns, age 81, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 
2022, at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born 
on March 24, 1941, in Scott City, Kansas, the son of Samuel Lee and Ines
 Evelyn Needles Binns.&nbsp; A lifetime resident of Scott City, Kansas, he 
works for the&nbsp;US Postal Service for 40 years.

He was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the 173rd Airborne unit.&nbsp; He was also a VFW and American Legion member.

On February 19, 1997, he married Kelly J. Biggerstaff in Las Vegas, Nevada.&nbsp; She survives.

Survivors include his Wife - Kelly J. Binns of Scott City, Kansas, 
Three Children - Andrew of Wichita, Kansas, Kevin &amp; wife Cassie of 
Claflin, Kansas, Destiny of Hoisington, Kansas, One Brother - Clifford 
L. “Pete” &amp; Emma Jean Binns of Scott City, Kansas, One Sister - Jo 
Ellen &amp; Don Wimp of Oswego, Kansas, Seven Grandchildren, and many 
nieces &amp; nephews.

Carrol Deane Young, age 83, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at
 the Greeley County Hospital in Tribune, Kansas. She was born on April 
19, 1939, in Hutchinson, Kansas to David &amp; Frances Wilcox 
Stephenson. In 1943, at the age of 4, her family moved to Greeley County
 where she would live the rest of her life. On November 2, 1958, she 
married Ralph W. Young in Goodland, Kansas. He survives. She was a 
homemaker first and foremost but used her skills in interior design and 
landscaping in her community. She was a member of the Community of 
Christ Church in Tribune, Kansas. Carrol was faithful in attending a 
weekly community Bible study and found great joy in getting a Coke and 
dragging main and the alleys with her sisters-in-law; Frances and Hazel 
in their senior years. Her other joy was found in spending time with her
 loved ones.

Carrol lived a full life, having owned and managed the Boot N’ Buckle
 clothing store for several years in the 1980s as well as owning and 
managing the family farm with her husband in Northwest Greeley County 
from 1962 until 2017. In May of 1977, Carrol and Ralph moved from the 
farm to their home in Tribune. She also served as Secretary at the 
Extension office in Greeley County. Later in life, she attended the 
Sheffield School of Design and used those skills in her beloved 
hometown.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph Young of Tribune, Kansas, four 
daughters, Sherry &amp; (Alan) Peter of Tribune, Kansas, Connie &amp; 
(Ken) Shafer of Tribune, Kansas, Lisa Young of Hays, Kansas, Billie 
&amp; (Dale) Kuhlman of Olmitz, Kansas, and one brother, Don &amp; 
(Stephanie) Stephenson of Oakley, Kansas, nine grandchildren, and 
fourteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Davie Stephenson, one sister, Patsy Hapes, and one son, Larry Rae Young.

Graveside services will be held at the Greeley County Cemetery on 
Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at 11:00 Mountain time with Ron Riley and Jerry 
Young presiding.

Visitation will be at the Price and Sons funeral home in Tribune, 
Kansas on Monday, June 13, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. 
Mountain time.

Memorials may be given to the Greeley County Hospital or the Greeley

Elmer Reno Purvis, age 83, lifelong resident of Sherman County, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Topside Manor.&nbsp;

Elmer was born to Ralph and Murel (Moore) Purvis on the family farm 
in Sherman County. He attended Sandy Hill and Smokey Hill Country 
schools until the 8th grade. He completed diesel mechanics training and 
received a diploma from Interstate Training Service for Diesel and Heavy
 Equipment. On June 5, 1960, he married Joyce Tracey in Texhoma, 
Oklahoma.&nbsp; Elmer lived all his life in Sherman County, except for 4 
years while working for Chicago Rock Island and Pacific Railroad, he 
returned to the family farm in October 1961.&nbsp;

He was raised in a Christian home and fondly recalled his mom reading
 Bible stories and praying with him. He especially remembered the time 
when he was 4 years old, while riding on a trailer of wheat with his 8 
year old sister, JoAnn. His father was turning onto a cement slab to 
dump the wheat when Elmer decided to climb off over the side, slipped 
and slid under the trailer, the tires went over the pelvis area, 
breaking his hips and causing severe internal injuries.&nbsp; Doctors in 
Goodland didn’t expect him to live and was keeping him sedated, after 24
 hours they called in Dr. Renner who performed a life-saving surgery.&nbsp;

Elmer loved to farm and could hardly wait each spring to be out in 
the field.&nbsp; He put down an irrigation well in 1965, and irrigated by 
ditch-type for many years, laying out pipe, changing water morning and 
night and all that goes with it.&nbsp; Later he changed to using sprinkler 
systems. The kids said that dad decided to go to center pivots after 
there was no children to help move pipe and change water.&nbsp; He was 
blessed when Stan and Becky agreed to move back to Sherman County and 
help farm.&nbsp;

As the grandkids came along, he loved giving them tractor and combine
 rides. Elmer loved music, playing his steel guitar, and having someone 
playing piano or other instruments along with him.&nbsp; He sang with a men’s
 quartet at church. Elmer served on the board at Goodland Bible Church, 
the Goodland Christian School, and the McPherson Township Board.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, Minnie Brazda, Irene Jewel and Ruth Sears.&nbsp;

Elmer is survived by his wife, Joyce of Sherman County; children, 
Terri (Jerry) Spooner of Fort Morgan, CO, Tammy (Tim) Rensberger of 
Buchanan, MI, Stan (Becky) Purvis of Sherman County, Steve (Carrie) 
Purvis of Niles, MI, Tracy (John) Adams of Troy, IL; grandchildren, Jill
 (Tanner) Dixon, Drew (Kinsey), Zach (Jamie), Zeb (Karent) Tedford, 
Bryce (Malorie) Rensberger, Lance (Caitlin), Tiffany and Lisa (Logan)

Mary Anne Johnson

Oral surgeon, great outdoorsman, devoted father, loving husband, loyal friend, and all-around really nice guy, Dr. Paul Dean Wagner (Wags) died peacefully surrounded by his immediate family in Lawrence, Kansas, June 1, after a long and brave battle with Parkinson’s. He leaves behind an enormous legacy and wonderful memories of adventure, leadership, friendship, general orneriness, and undeniable service to those around him.  He carried a quiet, caring demeanor, a surprising sense of humor, and a strong, adventurous spirit.

Born Christmas Eve 1937 in Concordia, KS.  His parents, Oral and Mary, instilled a sense of honor, fairness, hard work, and devotion to his family at a young age. Early years included working on farms and at the family drugstores, school athletics, lifeguarding, and Boy Scouts of America, where he became an honored Eagle Scout. Here he developed an immense appreciation for the great outdoors, leadership, and physical fitness. He graduated in 1957 from Mankato High School. (KS)

Before graduating in 1961 from the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy, he played drums in the KU Bands and Orchestra, worked as a physiology lab assistant, and was a member of Alpha Nu Chapter, Beta Theta Pi.  He also met and married the love of his life, Sharon, who happened to live next door.

Paul worked at Family Drug in Lincoln, Nebraska, witnessing the birth of two beautiful daughters, Anne and Mary Beth, and decided he would rather write prescriptions instead of filling them.  So, he moved his young family to Memphis, where he was able to work his way through the University of Tennessee School of Dentistry in 3 years, completing 4 quarters a year. He continued with a medical internship at the University of Alabama, Birmingham, and residency at Hershey Medical Center and Harrisburg Hospital, finishing in 1972.  He soon became a diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

While living and practicing Oral Surgery in Hershey, he introduced his growing family to running, canoeing, back-packing, and hiking in beautiful Pennsylvania and neighboring states!  He served on the boards of the Pennsylvania Sierra Club, and the Appalachian Trail Conference, leading a group who saved Stony Creek Valley, and helped maintain hiking trails.  He ran the Harrisburg Marathon, the first of many to come, including Boston, National Capital of Canada and NYC.

In 1975 Kansas friends and family recruited the Wagners to come home. And, the Wagner pre-teen daughters agreed to leave their beloved Hershey for Kansas – if they could ski in Colorado and get a cat!  That being achievable, Paul returned to Kansas with his family and began his own OMS practice in Hays.  Appropriately on Labor Day, Paul Jr. (PJ) was welcomed to complete their family!  Soon Paul organized the Hays Area Road Runners, (HARR! HARR!) and a fun-loving group of running addicts developed.  A bicycling group followed. Suddenly, marathon, triathlon, and distance bicycling competition and recreational trips were in order, and great friendships were born!  He served in professional capacities there as well:  Chief of Staff of Hays Medical Center, State President of KS Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Society, President of the energetic Western KS Dental Study Club.

Dr. Wagner and his family loved to back pack and canoe in the Minnesota and Canadian Boundary Waters, and the Colorado Mountains.  They were able to ski in Colorado, Ride the Rockies, Bike Across Kansas, Tour Wyoming, and compete in numerous races and events!  Laughing, joking, loving, challenging, developing great friendships, creating special memories, all part of his persona, continued in his retirement.

In 2005, Paul retired from his OMS practice, and moved with Sharon to Arrowhead Mountain in the Vail Valley.  Here, the beautiful mountains were in his backyard, skiing was available every day the lifts were open.  Terrific friendships were established with like minded residents who loved the clean air, beautiful mountains, and the active lifestyle.  These friends were a special mix of different cultures, from many parts of our country.  Yet, all were still contributing to our world, working for Habitat of Humanity, Mountain Rescue, and in many other volunteering capacities.

Paul was married to Sharon Mather on July 17,1960 in Stafford, Kansas. Sharon survives him and resides in Lawrence. Other survivors are his children:  Anne Wagner Dewitz, of Olathe, KS, Mary Beth (Gregg) Minion of Glenwood Springs, CO. and Paul Dean (Elizabeth Curry) Wagner, Jr. of West Hollywood, CA. and his grandchildren:  Kyle Dewitz of Nashville, TN, Alec (Tom Bethany) Hynes of New York, NY,  Casey Hynes-(Nathan) Seaford of Solvang, CA, and Elissa Dewitz of North Hollywood, CA. and his great granddaughter, Roo Elliot Seaford of Solvang, CA.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents Oral Harlan Wagner and Mary Amis Wagner of Mankato KS and his brother Sam Wagner of Smith Center, Kansas.

A member of the Unitarian Church of Memphis and Harrisburg, Paul lived a life honoring diversity, tolerance, and service to others. Because he requested cremation, a celebration of life event will take place in Lawrence in the fall of 2022.

Dr. Paul Dean Wagner 

Grace Irene (Barnett) Jones, of Colby KS, was 86 when she passed away on
 Sunday, June 5th, 2022, at home in Colby. She was born November 6, 
1935, to Lester and Adele Barnett. She was the youngest of 9 children. 
Grace graduated from Colby High School in 1953. While attending Colby 
schools, she met Harold Jones. Grace married Harold on August 21,1955. 
She worked at Great Plains Electric up until 1961, when she got the call
 that her and Harold were able to adopt and pick up Donald. She quit her
 job that day and they drove to Wichita, KS to pick up their son. During
 that time Grace stayed home to care for him and they adopted their 
daughter Linda on December 14, 1963. 

Throughout her life, she was a 
devoted wife and mother. Grace has numerous roles. She was active in her
 church- First Baptist Church of Colby. She was a member of the American
 Baptist Women and devoted to her faith. Grace never missed an 
opportunity to support her children whether it be a school play where 
Donald thrived or a cheerleading event in which Linda was very 
competitive. On August 21, 1983, Grace had the pleasure of becoming a 
grandparent. This was a role that she fully embraced with her whole 
heart. 
 She dedicated countless hours of services to several organizations 
never missing the opportunity to lend a helping hand. Grace and Harold 
were not afraid to travel. They traveled to all fifty states and a 
numerous number of foreign countries. All with love in mind and the 
intention of creating memories that would last a lifetime and that shown
 to be true to the end. Grace was not afraid to tell you how she felt. 
She was not afraid to lead with a trump card in a family game of up and 
down, which if you know cards you know this didn't really scream "I'm 
playing for the team". And of course, the ornery smile that preceded was
 worth the damage. If she liked you, then she loved you and for those of
 us that were able to break through that hard shell know the value of 
Grace Jones. A beautiful, loving, caring woman that will be not only 
forever remembered but forever missed. 
She was preceded in death by her mother Adele; father Lester; brothers, 
Samuel, Lynn, Victor, Vernon, Wilbur, Morris and Bernard; her husband 
Harold; son Donald and grandson Kuper Jones. 
Grace is survived by her sister Helen Klein; daughter Linda Jones; many grandchildren, and great grandchildren. 
Grace will always be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, wife, 
mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and Christian who cared 
deeply for everyone in her life. She will be deeply missed. 
Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2022, at Baalmann Mortuary, 
Colby. Funeral Service is 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 11, 2022, at the

 </figure>Grace Irene (Barnett) Jones, of Colby KS, was 86 when she passed away on
 Sunday, June 5th, 2022, at home in Colby. She was born November 6, 
1935, to Lester and Adele Barnett. She was the youngest of 9 children. 
Grace graduated from Colby High School in 1953. While attending Colby 
schools, she met Harold Jones. Grace married Harold on August 21,1955. 
She worked at Great Plains Electric up until 1961, when she got the call
 that her and Harold were able to adopt and pick up Donald. She quit her
 job that day and they drove to Wichita, KS to pick up their son. During
 that time Grace stayed home to care for him and they adopted their 
daughter Linda on December 14, 1963. Throughout her life, she was a 
devoted wife and mother. Grace has numerous roles. She was active in her
 church- First Baptist Church of Colby. She was a member of the American
 Baptist Women and devoted to her faith. Grace never missed an 
opportunity to support her children whether it be a school play where 
Donald thrived or a cheerleading event in which Linda was very 
competitive. On August 21, 1983, Grace had the pleasure of becoming a 
grandparent. This was a role that she fully embraced with her whole 
heart. 
 She dedicated countless hours of services to several organizations 
never missing the opportunity to lend a helping hand. Grace and Harold 
were not afraid to travel. They traveled to all fifty states and a 
numerous number of foreign countries. All with love in mind and the 
intention of creating memories that would last a lifetime and that shown
 to be true to the end. Grace was not afraid to tell you how she felt. 
She was not afraid to lead with a trump card in a family game of up and 
down, which if you know cards you know this didn't really scream "I'm 
playing for the team". And of course, the ornery smile that preceded was
 worth the damage. If she liked you, then she loved you and for those of
 us that were able to break through that hard shell know the value of

Scott A. Jordan, age 55, of Hays, Kansas died on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. &nbsp;

He was born September 5, 1966, in Clearfield, Utah, to Randall Wayne and Sue Ellen (Clifton) Jordan Sr. &nbsp;He married Lynette Rumpel and they later divorced. &nbsp;His companion and fiancé is Becky Meserve.

Scott was the manager of the Pheasant Run Restaurant in Hays for the past number of years, and prior to this he was a service technician at Tri Central Office Supply in Hays for over 20 years. He lived in Utah, Washington, Illinois, Arizona, and moved to Hays in 1978. &nbsp;He was a 1984 graduate of Hays High School. &nbsp;Scott enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, loved Kansas State University and loved the time he spent with his family, and his extended family including Ryan Werth.&nbsp;

Each year, he looked forward to playing Santa Claus and seeing the smiles on the children’s faces.&nbsp;He loved cooking, never met a stranger, and gave the best hugs.&nbsp;

If Scott wasn’t “Hanging in there like a hair in a biscuit” then he was probably, “Finer than a frog hair split four ways.”&nbsp;&nbsp;Most important, as Scott would say, “It could be worse, we could all be naked doing this.”

Survivors include his fiancé, Becky Meserve, of the home; his children,&nbsp;ChanteeJordan and Grant Holland, San Marcos, TX; Carey Jordan, Schoenchen, KS; his grandchildren, Sammie Rude, Hays, KS; Jordan Holland, San Marcos, TX; his mother, Sue Jordan, Hays, KS; his brother, Randy Jordan Jr. and wife, Myrna, Hays, KS; and a number of nephews and nieces.

Scott was preceded in death by his father; Randy Jordan Sr.; his grandparents, Larry and Rose Jordan; John and Jean Clifton.

A Celebration of Life service will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 13, 2022, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601 with Rev. Troy Miller officiating. &nbsp;A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
