Our cherished mother, Janel Louise Haug, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 20, 2025. Her life was marked by profound love, steadfast strength, and a quiet dignity that enriched every life she touched.

Born on February 2, 1959, in Hays, Kansas, Janel was the treasured daughter of Virgil and Louise Windholz and a devoted sister to her seven siblings. From an early age, she radiated a creative passionate spirit— always eager to perform, design, and express herself with an innate sense of style. Her playful, sneaky nature and deep commitment as a sister forged enduring bonds within her family.

A proud graduate of Ness City High School, Janel nurtured her artistic dreams through studies in cosmetology, interior design, and a myriad of crafting pursuits. Her creative spirit seamlessly carried over into her professional life as an agribusiness bookkeeper, where her dedication and attention to detail were evident in every task.

Yet, above all her endeavors, she cherished her roles as a mother to her five remarkable daughters, the sons she gained, and as an adoring Grannie to her 16 treasured grandchildren. Her pride in her grandchildren was palpable—she delighted in their achievements, their growing independence, and the promise of their futures, often sharing heartfelt stories of their unique talents and joyful moments. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her family, celebrating every accomplishment and milestone with profound joy and steadfast support.

She is lovingly survived by her daughters: Stephanie Shapland (Clint) of Scott City, Stacey Colbert (John) of Dodge City, Sara Thummel (Justin) of Plainville, Shannon York (Josh) of Scott City, and Shelby Hawkinson (Cole) of Ness City.

Her legacy also lives on in her grandchildren: Madison, Sebastian, Eric, Kendall, Hailey, Peyton, Dillon, Lillian, Greysen, Kaisen, Rowen, Olin, Levi, Cash, and Adley; her parents, Virgil and Louise of Ness City; her sisters, Karen Avery (Bob) of Wamego, Sharon Shields (Terry) of Houston, Myra Pfannenstiel (Craig) of Wichita, and Amy Jacobs (Neal) of Wichita; and her brothers, Virgil Windholz of Salina, Dave Windholz (Lori) of Ness City, and John Windholz (Stacy) of Bel Aire.

In a final, tender reunion, Janel now joins her grandson, Cade Andrew Thummel.

Visitation for friends and family will be on Sunday, March 2, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Fitzgerald Funeral Home in Ness City. Celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 3, 2025, at the United Methodist Church in Ness City. A luncheon and a graveside ceremony to follow, where we will gather to celebrate and honor her extraordinary life. Memorial contributions can be made to Janel’s Grandchildren Education Fund.

Janel’s unwavering faith and gentle strength carried her through many challenges, and her compassionate support was a beacon for those in need. Darlene &nbsp;Jerauld, age 90, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Society in Ellis, Kansas. She was born on July 16, 1934, to Theodore &amp; Alma Almeyer Rapier. She was a lifelong resident of Leoti until recently moving to Ellis.

Darlene was a dedicated wife and mother. She was a Holy Cross Lutheran Church member and active in the Women's auxiliary. She sold Avon products for 48 years.

On June 20, 1954, she married Chester Jerauld in Scott City, Kansas. He passed away on August 17, 2012.

Darlene’s surviving family includes Two sons- Eldon &amp; Stephanie Jerauld of &nbsp;Hays, Kansas Lynn &amp; Debbie Jerauld of Benton, Kansas, her brother Jack &amp; Sheri Rapier of Wichita, Kansas, her sister Joyce Kidwell, nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one daughter, LoVona, and her siblings, Eugene &amp; Eva Rapier, Lavon &amp; Dean Nance, and Shirley &amp; Bud Reed.

Clifford J. “Cliff” Kreutzer, 84, Ellis, died Saturday, February 22, 2025, at his home.

He was born February 26, 1940, in Yocemento, the son of Aloysius Jr. “Aloys” and Cecelia (Braun) Kreutzer.&nbsp; Cliff grew up on the family farm north of Ellis and attended the one-room Locust Grove School.

In 1959, he was united in marriage to Katharine Zimmerman, and they were blessed with four children, Douglas, Rebecca, Rosalind, and Rita Mae.&nbsp; On May 9, 1981, he was united in marriage to Nancy A. Bice in Plainville.&nbsp; 

They celebrated 43 years of marriage and were blessed with two children, Joseph and Jessica.&nbsp; Cliff was a cattle rancher and farmer, worked in the oil field for 43 years, and did construction work.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, loved animals, especially cats, and enjoyed camping, fishing, and bird watching.&nbsp; Cliff was a talented singer and musician who played the accordion, harmonica, and guitar.

He liked polka music and playing in a band with his uncle.&nbsp; Most of all, Cliff loved his wife, children, and grandchildren unconditionally.

Survivors include his wife Nancy of the home, two sons, Douglas Kreutzer and wife Pam of Hays and Joseph Kreutzer of Ellis, four daughters, Rebecca Herzog and husband Arthur of Hays, Rosalind Werth and husband Craig of Hays, Rita Mae Hefner and husband Michael of Colorado Springs, CO, and Jessica Kreutzer of Hays, two brothers, Nicholas Kreutzer of Bloomington, IN and Francis Kreutzer of Ellis, a sister, Elizabeth Kreutzer of Ellis, a sister-in-law, Susan Augustine and husband Bruce of Plainville, 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Katharine, a sister, Cecelia Crawford, a sister-in-law, Ruth Kreutzer, and three grandsons, Derreck L., Devin A., and Dexter B. Urban.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Friday, February 28, 2025 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis with Fr. Dana Clark officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Hyacinth Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Thursday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and from 9:00 am until service time on Friday at the church.

A vigil service and rosary will be at 6:30 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.

Lillian Mary (Robben) Hockman passed away peacefully Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Benner Thunderbird Medical Center in Glendale, AZ, at the age of 83.

Lil was born “on the farm” on January 7, 1942, to Francis H. and Clara Josephine (Windholz) Robben in Walker, KS. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Lee Hockman on July 2, 1966.

Lil grew up in Walker, KS, where she graduated from South Walker Grade School and Gorham Rural High School. She moved to Rancho Cordova, CA, where she married Ken, who was stationed at Mather Air Force Base. Lil had a long civil service career and retired at 50. Lil and Ken always had an active life, enjoying years on the Sacramento River with their boat, attending car shows with her 1957 Ford Fairlane retractable hardtop, and traveling in their motorhome after retirement. Lil enjoyed happy hour and dancing with other motorhome park friends.

Lil is survived by her daughter, Robin Long; son-in-law, Christopher Long; granddaughter, Shelby Long; and grandson, Zade Long, all of Elk Grove, CA; sister, June Denning of Plainville, KS; sisters-in-law, Louise Robben and Doris Robben, both of Victoria, KS; brother-in-law, Richard (Cleo) Hockman of Hill City, KS; sisters-in-law, LaDonna (Edward) Mattke of Ogallah, KS, and Diane Cooper of Ellis, KS.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Norbert (Teresa) Robben, Kenneth Robben, Chuck Robben, and Francis Henry Robben Jr.; sisters, Shirley (Francis) Vonfeldt and Natholie (Marion) Schumacher; and brother-in-law, Keith Hockman Jr.

Mary Ann (Erbert) Wing, 88, of Hays, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 1 at HaysMed.

Mary Ann was born to parents Bernard Erbert and Anna (Dreiling) Erbert on November 11, 1936, in Ellis, Kansas.

She was a homemaker before returning to work as the Deputy Register of Deeds for Ellis County.

After graduating high school, Mary Ann moved to Hays to begin her career. She met Dale Wing and they married on November 23, 1957.

She then became a mother to Les (Treasa) Wing, Kingman, Kansas; Peggy Wing Stramel, Hays, Kansas; Marilee Wing, Lone Tree, Colorado; Karen Wing Von Hoene, Highlands Ranch, Colorado; and Amy Wing, Lawrence, Kansas. She was a loving grandmother to Tyler (Rhonda) Wing, Sean (Barbara Peters) Wing, Alex Wing, Jack Von Hoene, and Anna Von Hoene, and a great-grandmother to Allison Wing, Isabella Wing, Victoria Wing, and Evelyn Wing.

She is survived by her immediate family and her sister Paula (Erbert) Kroeger.&nbsp;She was predeceased by her husband Dale, her parents, brothers Bernie Erbert, Robert (Althea) Erbert, George (Evelyn) Erbert, brother-in-law Verlyn Kroeger, and son-in-law Robert Von Hoene.

Mary Ann was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was an avid reader, extremely intelligent, witty and had a great sense of humor. She loved games and puzzles and could be a fierce competitor, especially in the annual Trivial Pursuit contests. She was artistic and talented and used her creativity in ways that made life special for those around her.

She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hays. Mary Ann deeply missed Dale and we will deeply miss her.

Barbara Lea (Reichel) Baus, 93, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.

Barbara was born on a farm northeast of Bison, Kansas, on September 19, 1931, the daughter of Henry and Esther (Foos) Reichel. Barbara always said she bounced into the world, as her mom worked in the field with a tractor that day.

Barbara grew up learning how to work. She and her brother, Caroll, were 14 months apart, therefore they learned how to work before they played. Caroll passed away in 1950.

Electricity, TV, radio, air conditioning and fans were not part of their lives.

Her dad won a radio in 1935 when Humburgs had a drawing. Needless to say, they had their ears glued to the radio at night. Of course, the radio was battery run.

They also did not have an indoor bathroom, oh the wonderful feel of an outhouse! A washtub in the wash house was their bathtub. The kids took a bath in the same water and only used it once a week. In the summertime, their dad made a shower house with a barrel for water on top. The sun would heat the water, and the bath felt so good.

Barbara’s younger brother, Arnold Neal, came along in 1935.

Barbara remembers her dad using horses and a hay wagon to put up alfalfa and wheat straw. She couldn’t remember the tractor her mom worked with on the day she was born, but she does remember when her dad got a new McCormick Deering tractor. It had lug wheels and an iron seat that you didn’t sit on, because it jarred your body too much and you would have round holes imprinted on your behind.

Barbara had to feed the chickens, help milk cows, help separate the milk and carry 5-gallon buckets in each hand across the yard to slop the pigs. Barbara’s job was also to wash the separator. All of this had to be done before she and her brother walked ½ mile across the field to school.

Barbara went to Pleasant Valley District #53 school for seven years. When her brother, Caroll, went to high school, Barbara finished 8th grade at Bison Grade School, Bison, Kansas.

Barbara attended Bison High School, Bison, Kanas. In those “good old days," girls wore dresses or skirts; boys wore casual pants, no jeans.

Barbara graduated in May, 1949. The night was dreary and rainy. The electricity had gone out, so they used barn lanterns for light.

Barbara played softball and basketball. No school had a girls basketball team, so the girls played B-team boys. Barbara always thought the girls had an edge, as the boys were afraid to touch them. All their games were played during school time. When Barbara was a junior, the boys played their games at night.

After graduating from high school, Barbara worked at the Ben Franklin Store in La Crosse, Kansas. She stayed at a home in town, where she had only one bedroom. It cost $5.00 a week. Barbara earned a little over $24.00 a week. She spent $1.00 a day for food and still put $10.00 away for savings. She worked from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Bill rolled into Barbara’s life one Saturday night. They met in the bowling alley. They dated for 3 ½ years, and were married on September 9, 1951, at the Methodist Church in Bison, Kansas.

Barbara moved to Bill's farm, northeast of Alexander, Kansas, where she continued to still do the chores she did before.

Bill had three jobs plus his farming. When he had to be on a job, Barbara had to do the field work, no umbrella or cab. They ate a lot of dirt when they were in the field. Barbara helped harvest but would never run the combine. She drove the tractor to pull it. When self-propelled combines came into view, Bill and Barbara bought one. She ran the pickup and truck, no lift, to get the grain to the elevator or to shovel the wheat into a bin.

When Bill and Barbara were blessed with Janet in 1952, Debra in 1957, and Mark in 1960, it made for more planning to get everything done.

Electricity didn’t get to their farm until 1953. They had a 120-volt light plant for lights.

When Janet went to high school, Barbara started working in town. She worked at Galen’s Men’s Wear. Then in 1970, she started working at L &amp; W Implement &amp; car dealership as a secretary. Later she worked at the appraiser’s office in the courthouse for eight years. She served on the Farm Bureau Board for 17 years.

Bill and Barbara were sponsors for “The Up With People” sing out, America Young people from Rush County. She belonged to the EHU group at Alexander, Kansas, the Review Club, Sorority organization at McCracken, Kansas, and was on the Rush County Health Board &amp; Extension Board.

Bill and Barbara went to the Lutheran Church in La Crosse, Kansas, when it was moved from the country church northeast of Alexander, Kansas, in 1953. They were Luther League sponsors for young people, sang in the church choir, and were involved in the Women of the Church until they were no longer able to function. Barbara was a substitute organist for many years, then organist for 17 years until she retired in 2016. She also served on the church board nine years.

Barbara started baking wedding cakes in 1954 and made cakes and catered for 64 years.

Barbara made many quilts. One year she embroidered 13 sets of tea towels for her family. She also made many crochet afghans.

Barbara sang at many weddings and funerals until her vocal cords were damaged by coughing.

In 2010 Bill and Barbara moved to McCracken, Kansas, after she had a heart attack in 2009 and Bill lost his leg in 2007.

Bill passed away in 2018 and Barbara moved to La Crosse, Kansas, in 2019.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents, Henry and Esther Reichel; and her brothers, Caroll and Arnold Neal.

Survivors include: two daughters, Janet Hayes (Ted), Wichita, Kansas, and Debra Schuckman (Myron), Wichita, Kansas; one son, Mark Baus (Ann), La Crosse, Kansas; 10 grandchildren, Celi Jensby (Matt), Chad Warner (Cissi), Cari Palesano (Jeremy), Casey Warner (Robin), Christopher Schuckman (Katie), Carissa Schuckman (Jordan), Caley Clinkscales (Daniel), Veronica Kimple (Daniel), Leah Johnson (Nick) and Olivia Baus; 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Barbara made many friends from childhood to her time of death. She saw plenty of water over and under a bridge. She also remembers her great-grandfather Schwindt and her great-grandfather Krug.

All of her ancestors came from Germany via Ellis Island.

Visitation will be Friday, March 7, 2025, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas. A prayer service will be at 7:30 P.M.

Church visitation will be Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 9:00 A.M. to 9:50 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Pastor Phyllis Burdge officiating.

Interment will be Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. in the Peace Lutheran Cemetery in the country, three miles northeast of Alexander, Kansas.

Robert B. “Bob” Wilhelm, 75, Hays, died Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

He was born January 26, 1950, in Kingman, Kansas, one of five children to Dallas Eugene and Genavieve Evelyn (Blair) Wilhelm. He attended schools in Minneola, Cullison, and Belle Plaine before graduating from Sterling High School in 1968. Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1970 and attained the rank of Sergeant during the Vietnam War. He later received his BS in Biology and his MS in Zoology from Fort Hays State University. He was curator at (KSHS) Historic Fort Hays for 29 years.

He was united in marriage to Joan L. (Becker) Tippy on August 5, 1995, in Hays and joined her in raising her four children. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the American Legion, VFW, and VFW Honor Guard, the Smoky Hill Trail Association, Vietnam Veterans of America, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia Brotherhood, and the Distinguished Flying Cross Society. He was a supporter of the Hays Arts Council, the Hays Symphony, and organizations that promoted education in our community. He enjoyed listening to classical music, bird-watching, traveling, gardening, woodworking, stargazing, and photography. He loved being a full-time grandpa, was a classic movie and Star Wars buff, and passed so many of his passions on to his grandchildren. As an author he wrote for various newsletters and published a historical fiction book series titled, “Tales of the Sergeant Major” by Bob Wilhelm.

Survivors include his wife Joan, of the home in Hays, stepchildren, Merle Tippy (Toni Jensen) of Ellis, Christina Tippy (David Bodine) of Norman, OK, Jarod Tippy (Amanda) of Hays, and Brandon Tippy of Ellis, four siblings, Dallas Wilhelm, Jr. (Carol) of Elkhorn, NE, Steven Wilhelm (Teresa) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Cindy St. Peter of Corinth, TX, and Barbara Wilhelm of Wichita, seven grandchildren, Jude Tippy, Maysyn Tippy, Lucy Tippy, Michael Tippy, Joseph Bodine, Theodore Bodine, and Daniel Bodine.

Robert B. 'Bob' Wilhelm

Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Moellering) Feldt, 95, Hays, died Friday, February 21, 2025 at HaysMed.

She was born June 29, 1929 in Salina, the daughter of John M. and Elizabeth F. (Robben) Moellering.&nbsp; Betty was raised on the family farm a few miles north of Angelus, Kansas, and she received her education at school in Angelus.&nbsp; On June 2, 1948 she was united in marriage to John M. Feldt in Angelus, and they lived near Park until they moved to Hays in early 1952.&nbsp; They celebrated 57 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on November 2, 2007.&nbsp; Betty was a homemaker and a Boy Scout den mother until 1962 when John and she opened up their own business, Johnnies Skelly gas station and later, Johnnies Radiator and Auto Repair.&nbsp; She managed the office and bookkeeping at both places.&nbsp; Later on, she spent many years working at Al’s Chickenette.&nbsp; She loved to visit with the customers.

Her hobbies were participating in a Gospel singing group that sang at local rest homes, delivering the Holy Sacrament to shut-ins at home, eating and visiting with other seniors at the Hays Senior Center, and tending to her garden, raising blackberries and flowers on the farm.&nbsp; She also loved and took care of many cats through the years.

Survivors include her daughter, Joan Stekoll and husband Bernard of Wichita, three sons, Mike Feldt and John Feldt and wife Josephine, all of Hays, and Don Feldt of Wichita, a daughter-in-law, Linda Feldt of Augusta, two brothers, John Moellering and wife Elaine of Grinnell and Bernie Moellering of Oakley, a sister-in-law, Alverta Moellering of Hoxie, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, Jackie Brown and husband Eric of Hays and their three sons Anthony, Justin, and Michael, Chris Feldt and wife Kim of Ellis and their son Liam, Megan Maska and husband Brandon and their three children Brinley, Bowen, and Brody, Jennifer Sullivan and husband Brian, and Erika Mitchell and wife Melinda and their son Ethan Montano and his son Dominic.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a son, Robert Feldt, five sisters, Marie and husband Fred Schwarz, Emelyn and husband Bill Broeckelman, Frances and husband George Schwarz, Estella and husband Gus Jueneman, and Jean and husband Dick Dempewolf, and two brothers, Reynold and wife Hilda Moellering and Robert Moellering.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 27, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Mary E. Dreiling, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the age of 92.

She was born on December 20, 1932, in Hays, Kansas, to Peter M. and Catherine (Pfannenstiel) Younger. On August 11, 1952, she married the love of her life, Robert Nick Dreiling, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis, and together, they shared 71 wonderful years of marriage.

Mary was a dedicated custodian and instructor for USD 270 in Plainville, retiring in 2002 after 30 years of service. She then worked part-time for Clean-Rite in Ellis for ten years.

Mary had a passion for family, faith, and community. She was an avid Kansas City Royals fan, enjoying both attending games with her family and watching them on TV. Family gatherings were always special, as she took great joy in cooking for the holidays. Her homemade cabbage rolls were a family favorite.

A talented seamstress, Mary created bridesmaid dresses, flower girl gowns, and expert alterations. She upholstered many chairs and drapes for homes, and loved crafting, especially creating polka-themed gifts for loved ones.

Mary and her husband were longtime members of the Sunflower Polka Club, where they enjoyed dancing for over 35 years. She also participated in the Pinochle Club and served as a board member for 17 years, helping with advertising efforts. No matter how busy she was, she always made time for family and friends. A dedicated Sudoku enthusiast, she completed a puzzle daily as part of her routine.

Mary was a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and an active participant in the Daughters of Isabella Circle #254. As a faithful servant of her church, Mary was active in the funeral committee, often baking desserts for services and other church events.

Survivors include her three children, Doris Cline of Gorham, Denise Pywell and husband Terry of Wichita, and Dennis Dreiling and wife Kathie of Medicine Lodge, her cherished grandchildren, Adam Cline and wife Tammy of Great Bend, Joshua Cline and wife Rachal of Norfolk, Virginia, Larame Cline and wife Britney of Wichita, Preston Pywell of Wichita, Crystal Pywell of Wichita, Samantha Dreiling of Garden City, and Cassandra Dreiling of Wichita, and her five precious great-grandchildren, Danica and Brody Cline of Great Bend, Mary-Elizabeth Cline of Norfolk, Virginia, Jackson and Wyatt Cline of Wichita. Additionally, she leaves behind two step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren, as well as her brother Frank Younger of Hays.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; an infant son, Darrel, an infant daughter, Mary; her sister Cora Sawazhki; and her brothers, Severin, Victor, Alvin, Joe, Richard, Sylvester, Eddie, and Norman Younger. She was also preceded in death by her sisters-in-law, Bette, Henrietta, Rosie, Betty, Dorothy, Norma, and Mary Younger; and her brother-in-law, Richard Sawazhki.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Angela Marie Leikam, of Plainville, Kansas, passed away on Feb. 14, 2025, at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska, at the age of 66. She was born on Dec. 16, 1958, to Edward T. and Josephine T. (Tuzicka) Pozalek in LaCrosse, Kansas. She married Joseph Leikam on Oct. 13, 1990, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Hays, Kansas.

Angela grew up in Timken, Kansas, and graduated from Otis-Bison High School in 1977. She dedicated much of her life to helping others, working as a certified medication aide at Rush County Nursing Home and serving as a nurse aide at both Hadley Hospital and Hays Medical Center. Angela was passionate about caregiving, further contributing through her work in home health in Rooks County and delivering meals for Meals on Wheels. For 20 years, she served as the beloved crosswalk guard for Plainville Public Schools, always watching over the children with a nurturing heart.

A talented cook, Angela enjoyed experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen. Her love for jewelry, flowers and nature was matched only by her admiration for the birds and squirrels that visited her yard. Angela’s deep Catholic faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she found comfort in watching the EWTN Catholic Channel. Angela had a special love for holidays, and it is only fitting that she passed away on Valentine's Day, as she embodied warmth, love and kindness.

Angela is survived by her husband, Joe Leikam of Plainville; two sons, Taylor Leikam of Plainville and Travis (Tiana) Leikam of Manhattan, Kansas; sisters, Margaret Pozalek of LaCrosse, KS, Rita Holmes of Centennial, Colorado; grandson, Ben Leikam of Manhattan; and three nieces and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, James Pozalek.

Patricia Kay (Atkisson) Johnson, 72, passed away on Feb. 14, 2025, in Kansas City. She was born Dec. 27, 1952, in Stockton, Kansas, to Robert Elmer and Darlene (Cahail) Atkisson and raised by Elmer and Gladys Atkisson. Pat attended grade school and high school in Stockton, graduating in 1970.

In January of 1971, Pat married Larry “Joe” Johnson and to this union were born two children, Jeffery Joe “JJ” and Marisa Marie. For their first few years of marriage, they lived in both Goodland and Great Bend. In the spring of 1981, the family moved to Hill City and purchased the Hill City Body Shop where Pat was the office bookkeeper until they sold the business. Always a community and church participant, after their retirement, Pat volunteered her time working tirelessly at the United Methodist Church thrift store known as Second Chances. Never one to have idle hands, Pat was still busy even when relaxing, you could find her crocheting, especially afghans or reading a book.

Being devoted to her Faith, she loved her church families in both Hill City and Hays. Of course, Pat rarely missed any of her grandchildren’s sporting events or activities and loved talking about their accomplishments. On most days, one could find her out walking. Bowling was an&nbsp;activity she so enjoyed.

Pat and Joe enjoyed fishing and camping trips with friends and family. Traveling to various National Parks were the highlights of vacations. You could also find them at street rod car shows, always admiring other cars while showing their classics cars, especially the Mustangs.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Darlene Atkisson and grandparents, Elmer and Gladys Atkisson; her husband Joe; sisters-in-law Bonnie McClelland and Anne Johnson, and brother-in-law Glenn Jones.

She is survived by her children, Jeffery Joe “JJ” (Traci) of Plainville and Marisa Johnson and (Armando) of Hays; two grandchildren: Brady (Chelsea) of Portland, Oregon, and Jolyn of Plainville; her brother Bob (Kathy) Atkisson of Stockton; her sisters Susan (Larry) Bedore&nbsp;of Phillipsburg and Barbara Morris of Johnson, Kansas; brothers-in-law Loren Johnson, Buzz (Mary Lou) Johnson and sister-in-law Lee Jones; many nieces and nephews along with dear friends.

Funeral service for Pat will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 22, 2025, at First United Methodist Church in Hays.

Patricia 'Pat' Johnson

Norton resident, Gordon Dean Husted, passed away on Feb. 19, 2025, at the Graham County Hospital in Hill City at the age of 87. He was born Dec. 22, 1937, in Sheridan County, Kansas, the son of Franklin and Margaret (Montgomery) Husted.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his bonus brother Archie Hughes and his brother-in-law Steve Kosovich.

Survivors include his wife Anna of Norton; his children: Cynthia Wright of Almena, Robert (Sandy) of Norton, Randall (Brenda) of Almena and Charles (Kari) of Norton; his sister, Marian Kosovich of Junction City; his sister-in-law, Donna Hughes of Dallas, Texas, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the Graham County Hospital, Dr. Luke Handy and staff and Dawson Place for the amazing care Dean received.

Cremation was chosen. A private family service will be held at a later date.

(Peak) Rodger, age 49, of Hays, Kansas passed away February 15, 2025 in Hays.
She was born July 6, 1975 in South Carolina daughter of Don and Gaylene (Duntz)
Loyd. Her family resided in Kirwin, Kansas where she lived during her childhood
years where she was raised in a loving home with her parents and siblings.&nbsp;

Darcy graduated from Agra High School in Agra, Kansas. Shortly after graduation
she moved to Hays to further her education in nursing. It was there she met
Alan Rodger and the two of them instantly fell in love and started their
31-year path through life. Through trials and tribulations, good times and bad
their love for one another never wavered. 



She received her CNA license and instantly pursued her passion of caring for
the elderly. She worked at several different nursing homes throughout her
career providing care and love to all she met. All were truly blessed to have
such a caring person to see after them. 



She then moved her attention to becoming a homemaker providing care, and a home
filled with love for her two children. While at home she also continued to
provide home health for the elderly. She loved gardening, her dogs, but mostly
giving of herself to others. 



Darcy was preceded in death by her mother, Gaylene Loyd.

She is survived by her husband, Alan Rodger of Hays; her father, Don Loyd of
Kirwin, Kansas; 
a son, Connor Rodger of Hays; a daughter, Grace Rodger of Hays; stepdaughter,
Alexis Rodger of Salina; stepson, Braydan Rodger of Wichita; three sisters,
Sheryl Cundiff of Stockton, Melissa Buxton of Norcatur, and Lacie Loyd of
Kirwin; two brothers, Justin Bohl of Mineral Wells, TX and Brian Winters of
Hays. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews that she loved very
much.



The family would also like to give their eternal gratitude to Suzanne Bohl and
Janetta Richardson for their loving and compassionate care for Darcy at the
time she needed them the most.

 The family takes comfort in knowing she is now
with God. Darcy was loved by all and will be truly Missed.



There will be a private family celebration of life service at a later date.

their love for one another never wavered. 

She received her CNA license and instantly pursued her passion of caring for
the elderly. She worked at several different nursing homes throughout her
career providing care and love to all she met. All were truly blessed to have
such a caring person to see after them. 

She then moved her attention to becoming a homemaker providing care, and a home
filled with love for her two children. While at home she also continued to
provide home health for the elderly. She loved gardening, her dogs, but mostly
giving of herself to others. 

Darcy was preceded in death by her mother, Gaylene Loyd.

She is survived by her husband, Alan Rodger of Hays; her father, Don Loyd of
Kirwin, Kansas; 
a son, Connor Rodger of Hays; a daughter, Grace Rodger of Hays; stepdaughter,
Alexis Rodger of Salina; stepson, Braydan Rodger of Wichita; three sisters,
Sheryl Cundiff of Stockton, Melissa Buxton of Norcatur, and Lacie Loyd of
Kirwin; two brothers, Justin Bohl of Mineral Wells, TX and Brian Winters of
Hays. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews that she loved very
much.

The family would also like to give their eternal gratitude to Suzanne Bohl and
Janetta Richardson for their loving and compassionate care for Darcy at the
time she needed them the most. The family takes comfort in knowing she is now
with God. Darcy was loved by all and will be truly Missed.

There will be a private family celebration of life service at a later date.

Darcy (Peak) Rodger

Thomas (Tom) E. Casey, 75, of Hays, Kansas, passed away
peacefully surrounded by his wife and children on February 17, 2025 just five
days shy of his 76th birthday. He was born on February 22, 1949 and
was raised on a farm northwest of Natoma, Kansas, where he developed a strong
work ethic, his love of God, and his sharp wit. 

Tom graduated from Natoma High School as Valedictorian of his
class and married his high school sweetheart, Mary Hackerott, on December 27,
1969. He continued his education at Fort Hays State University with a degree in
Business Administration. His professional career spanned several companies,
including First National Bank of Natoma, National Supply, Red Tiger and
Frontier Oil, and thirty-four years as manager of Express Well Service and
Supply. He had a passion for sales and truly cared for his customers and
employees.&nbsp; He was an advocate for the
oil industry, speaking both locally and in Washington, D.C. to raise awareness
of safety standards and regulations. He was both an officer and a member of
Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association and Association of Energy Service
Companies. 

Throughout his life, Tom continued to support and work on the
family farm, alongside his father and his son. He always said “God gave us the
land, we have to take care of it”.&nbsp; He
loved his Catholic faith and was a third degree member of the Knights of
Columbus and Marked Men for Christ, eucharistic minister, catechism teacher,
and lector.&nbsp; He never gave up his pursuit
in strengthening his relationship with our Lord. 

Tom was a loyal Kansas State University fan.&nbsp; For many years, he spent Saturdays in the
fall treating family and friends to Wildcat football games as a season ticket
holder. Most recently, he loved watching his grandson wear Wildcat purple as
#97 on his big screen TV. Tom loved being a “Papa” to all ten of his
grandchildren and drove many, many miles to attend their events. 

Tom is survived by his mother, Doris Casey, his loving wife,
Mary (Hackerott) Casey; his children, Amy (Paul) Matlack, Spencer (Michelle)
Casey, Kim (Frank) Musalek, and Robyn (Brandon) Crichton; as well as his ten
beloved grandchildren: Laura Casey, Nate Matlack, Hailey (Garret) Rounsley,
Nick Matlack, Abbey Musalek, Ryan Casey, Ella Musalek, Lexi Casey, Luke
Musalek, and Colin Crichton. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald M. Casey.

Tom’s legacy will live on through his grandchildren by all he
taught them through his living and dying. He will be deeply missed by all who
had the privilege of knowing him. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Saturday,
February, 22, 2025, Tom’s 76th birthday, at Immaculate Heart of Mary
Catholic Church with Fr. Fred Gatschet officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in St. Michael the
Archangel Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be
from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Friday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Saturday, all

Thomas (Tom) E. Casey

Sharon Sue McLaughlin, 69, of Zurich, Kansas, passed away
on February 15, 2025, at HaysMed in Hays, Kansas. She was born on July 13,
1955, to Delwin and Velma (Meitler) Mendenhall at Plainville Rural Hospital in
Plainville, Kansas. She married Rick McLaughlin on October 21, 1978, at the
United Methodist Church in Plainville.

Sharon grew up in Zurich and graduated from Palco High
School in 1973. She dedicated 26 years of her life as a bookkeeper at Mr. K's
and spent another 14 years as a secretary at World Pest Control, where she was
a valued colleague and friend to many.

Sharon had a deep passion for life and always put others
first. She loved to cook, and her world-famous macaroni and cheese will be
remembered by all who had the privilege of enjoying it. Sharon also had a love
for music, particularly classic rock, and as a talented pianist, she generously
shared her musical gifts with family and friends. 

Playing cards with her loved ones was one of Sharon’s
favorite pastimes, and there was nothing she cherished more than spending quality
time with her family. She took great pride in her sons and grandchildren and could
always be found cheering them on at their sporting events, exuding her
trademark enthusiasm. 

Sharon’s playful spirit was one of her most defining
qualities - she was a prankster with a great sense of humor who brought
laughter to all who knew her. In addition to her mischievous side, Sharon was
also the ultimate organizer, ensuring that everything ran smoothly, and
everyone was taken care of.

Sharon’s presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of
laughter, love, and joy will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Rick of Zurich, KS;
sons, Chad (Aimee) McLaughlin of Zurich, J.T. (June) McLaughlin of Abilene, KS;
sister, Jeanie (Mark) Cameron of Abilene, KS; brothers, Randy (Sonja)
Mendenhall of Liberal, KS, Rocky (Deb) Mendenhall of Salina, KS, Rick (Rita)
Mendenhall of Garden City, KS, and Reggie (Cheryl) Mendenhall of Pratt, KS; eight
grandchildren: Zack, Alex, Vincent, Allissa, Jesseca, Courtney, Seirra,
Cameron; and five great-grandchildren: Lynlee, Leah, Derrick, Dawson and Miri.

and granddaughter, Tesla. 

A Celebration of life service will be held on Saturday,

Ty Alan Kaiser

Edgar M. Deines passed peacefully on February 11, 2025, at
age 95 from complications due to dementia. Edgar was born March 31, 1929, in
WaKeeney, Kansas, to Benjamin and Pauline (Stieben) Deines. He was the last
living sibling of eleven brothers and sisters: Raymond, Elmer, LaVerne, John,
Carroll, Lillian, LaVera, Wilma, Betty, and Charlotte.

Edgar was a lifelong resident of WaKeeney. He left home as a
high school junior and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in December 1948, much to
the disbelief of his mother. He proudly served four years during the Korean War
and was honorably discharged in 1952 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. During
his service years, he was stationed at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas;
Chanute AFB in Rantoul, Illinois; Clark AFB in the Philippines; and served with
the 6th Troop Carrier Squadron in Tachikawa, Japan. While in Japan, he
completed his high school education.

After his military service, he returned to WaKeeney, began
his career in the retail clothing business, and married the love of his life,
Rosetta Jane Rohn, on August 3, 1953—a marriage that lasted 71 years. They were
blessed with two children, Lance and Jana. In 1970, Edgar and Rosetta purchased
the former Hillman’s clothing store and began Deines Clothing, a men’s and
boys’ clothing store that they operated for 23 years before retiring and
selling the store in 1993. It was during Edgar’s many years in retail clothing
that he coined the phrase and said often until the end of his life: “When you
look your best, you do your best!”

shown to Edgar by Dr. Gordon Lang, Dr. Paulo De Andrade, and the staff of Trego
County Lemke Memorial Hospital and Long-Term Care. The family also thanks
