Laurene Marie (Olson) Dempewolf

Laurene Marie (Olson) Dempewolf, 75, of North Platte, NE passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at Linden Court Nursing Home.

Laurene was born on November 20, 1946, in McCook, NE the daughter of George and Laura (Bruggeman) Olson.

In her early years, Laurene grew up in the rural NW Kansas area of Selden and Dresden.  Following the passing of her father in 1958, her family moved to Oberlin, KS.  She attended Leoville Grade School; Jr. High in Oberlin, KS; High School at the Apostolic School of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Concordia, KS and completed her CNA training at Good Samaritan in Oberlin later in life. 

On April 22, 1967, she married Donald L. Dempewolf and to that union four children were born.  Laurene babysat, took in ironing, cleaned homes and worked at the Dairy Inn during the years while her own children were young. She continued cleaning homes weekly for many elderly and working women and babysat with a good friend off and on through the years. She worked at Sacred Heart Catholic Church as secretary for nine years. She worked as a CNA at Cedar Living Center; worked in the thrift store in Oberlin; and at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home for twelve years. She, along with her husband and daughter, also cleaned the Oberlin Clinic nightly for five years. 

She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oberlin where she served as Eucharistic Minister, Lector, Parish Council, and President of the Altar Society three times.  She took Communion to the homebound and sick, and her family cleaned the church for several years.  She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Widows and Friends in Oberlin.  On November 5, 2016, she moved to North Platte, NE and became very active in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.  She was a member of the Without a Spouse group, Catholic Daughters, the Rosary Group, and the Golden Girls.

Laurene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; son, Michael; 16 brothers- and sisters-in-law and many other loved ones.

Those left to cherish Laurene’s memory are her son, Larry Dempewolf of Central City. NE; daughters, Donna (Kevin) Juenemann of Kansas City, KS and Jennifer (Tony) Krajewski of North Platte, NE; brothers, Jim (Dari) Olson and Bernard Olson both of McCook; sister, Georgene (Lyle) Carstenson of Newton, KS; sisters-in-law, Marian Dempewolf, Jean Dempewolf, and Dianne Kleidosty; brother-in-law, Myron Kleidosty; six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17th, 2022, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Kadaprayill as celebrant.  Graveside service and burial will follow at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Colby, KS.  Visitation will be on Friday, September 16th, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel followed by The Rosary and Christian Wake Service at 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or to the North Platte Area Food Bank.

Carpenter Memorial Chapel, North Platte has been entrusted with the arrangements.
