Donna Lou Ellyn (Pepper) Elder, 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City following a brief illness. 
Donna Lou, or “Nonny” as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren, was born May 15, 1938, in Lakin, Kan., to Don and Vera Pepper. 
On Nov. 22, 1959, she married the love of her life Pat Elder in Johnson. He preceded her in death on April 29, 1995. Donna and Pat raised three daughters, Lynn, Lori and Lona. &nbsp;Donna Lou was a graduate of Fort Hays State College and taught elementary school for 49 years, all but one of those years in the Leoti school district. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of 
Leoti. 
She was a tremendous sports fan, especially KU basketball and all Big 12 football and basketball. She often told stories about working as a scorekeeper during Leoti 
basketball games. She enjoyed cross-stitching and all hand crafts, but 
her greatest joy was her family. 
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Lori Christensen; two brothers, LaVere Pepper and Weyland Pepper; and a nephew, Allyn Pepper. &nbsp;Survivors include her daughter Lynn Blau and husband Stan of Leoti; her daughter Lona DuVall of Garden City; a son-in-law, Leif Christensen of Leoti; a brother, Clifford Pepper of Liberal; five grandchildren, Adam Blau and wife Mel of Scott City, Hunter Carson and wife Rachel of Garden City, Lars Christensen of Anthony, Kan., Leighlyn Shifflett and husband Reagan of Hinesville, Ga., and Abigayle Blau of Hays; and four great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Blau, Maverick Shifflett, Garrett Shifflett, and Easton Shifflett. 
Cremation was chosen. There will be no visitation. Garnand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 
Funeral Services will be announced at a later date.

Scott Lee Redmon, 68, passed away on October 2, 2022, in Oberlin, KS 
with his family by his side.  He was born on February 5, 1954, in 
Greeley, CO to Melvin and Imogene (Green) Redmon.

Scott grew up in
 Greeley and Thornton, CO and in 1973 he graduated from Thornton High 
School.  On May 25, 1974, Scott married Carol Groves in Loveland, CO.  He
 had several occupations and did a little bit of everything but really 
enjoyed farming.  But most of all he loved to be with his family, go 
fishing, listen and play lots of music.  Especially the guitar.

Scott
 is survived by his wife, Carol Redmon of Oberlin, KS; daughters: 
Crystal (Ted) Stapleton of Stockton, KS and Melissa (Ronald Sporing) 
Mayden of Colby, KS; grandchildren: Makaila (Brandon) Kats of Prairie 
View, KS, Lane Stapleton of Stockton, KS, Taylor (Chyenne) Mayden of 
Gothenburg, NE, Brendan Mayden of Hays, KS; great grandsons: Jace Kats

David Ketchum

Roque Florez Garcia passed away on October 1, 2022, in Stockton,
 Kansas, at the age of 70. He was born on August 16, 1952, in Larned, 
Kansas, to Modesto and Ventura (Florez) Garcia. He was married to Brenda 
(Hunter) Garcia on October 20, 1973, in Stockton, KS. They were blessed 
with two children: Cory and Donna.

Roque grew up in St.
 John, Kansas, and after high school he attained an Associate Degree from
 NCK Technical College in Beloit, KS. He worked many years in 
maintenance at Valley View Apartments and then the Rooks County 
Courthouse in Stockton, retiring two years ago. Roque took much pride in
 his duties at the courthouse and enjoyed working for all the people. He
 was a member of Stockton Lions Club.

Roque loved his 
family and spending time with his grandkids. He enjoyed Chiefs and KU 
Basketball games which he oftentimes attended with his good friends, 
Duane Harris and Dennis Bedore. He also loved music and playing the 
drums with his band, Rolling Thunder.

Roque is survived
 by his children, Cory and Donna Garcia of Stockton; siblings, Sally 
Devena of Buhler, KS, Ted (Sandy) Garcia of Wichita, Lupe (Gerry) Hudson

grandchildren, Emil, Jake, Jo and Zeke.

to celebrate their 49th Anniversary in heaven with.

A 
funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at 11 AM at 
the Stockton United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the 
Stockton Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at 
the funeral home in Stockton.

Scott Dustin Princ, formerly of Wilson, KS, passed away on September 
30, 2022, at his home in Salina, KS at the age of 52. He was born on 
August 31, 1970, in Ellsworth, KS to John and Barbara (Hlaus) Princ. He 
Married Lynn (Valcorza) Princ in 2009 and they later divorced.

Scott
 grew up in Wilson and graduated from Wilson High School in 1989. After 
high school, he attended North Central Technical College in Beloit, KS 
and worked at Farm Mechanic and Electronics in Beloit. He later moved to
 Salina and worked in maintenance at Tony’s Pizza Plant and he currently
 worked for Russell Stover Candies Factory in Abilene, KS.

Scott
 enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved Mesha dearly and treasured time 
spent with her taking her to fairs, carnivals, and the farm.

He
 is survived by his mother, Barbara Princ of Wilson, KS; step-daughter, 
Meshasky Valcorza of Salina; brother John Princ of Beloit, KS; and 
sister Anita Princ of Salina.

He is preceded in death by his father, John Princ.

A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home in Wilson on Friday, October 7, 2022, at 10:30 AM.

David L. Frydendall

Harold Larson was born on Oct 11, 1937, and passed away on Sept 30, 2022.

He was born in Tescott, the son of Lambert and Marie Larson. He was 
raised by Walter and Lena Dodge. He had five brothers and sisters.

Harold married Royanne Young 64 years ago. Together they have six 
children: Shelly, Julie, Cindy, Mike, Joe (deceased) and Dawn. He has 16
 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He loved spending time 
with his family and telling them stories for hours.

He was a professional carpenter by trade, estimator, architect and 
engineer for more than 50 years. He designed and builtmeat-packing 
plants, residences, schools and businesses in Salina, all across Kansas 
and in other states. He was the land developer of Valley View Addition 
and Knoll Crest Estates. He owned Larson Construction Company and 
Century Sales and co-owned LAM-CO.In 1976 he designed and built the 
gazebo for Salina’s bicentennial celebration. This gazebo is now housed 
in the Jerry Ivy Park.

Harold loved to travel and was an avid reader. His passions were 
horses, hot rods and music. He enjoyed collecting car memorabilia and 
western artifacts and was a history buff. He liked to attend swap meets 
and trade shows and was quite a story teller.

Visitation will be Monday, October 3, 5-7 pm at Ryan Mortuary. 
Services will be Tuesday, October 4, at 10:00 am, at the Ryan Mortuary.

Harold Larson

Vernon Duane Schemm, age 88, of Sharon Springs passed away Friday, 
September 30, 2022. Vernon was born April 26, 1934 to Herman Fredrick 
“Fritz” and Mary Magdalena “Lena” (Deines) Schemm in WaKeeney, Kansas.&nbsp;

Vernon was born during the Great Depression and Dust Bowl era. While 
these were very challenging times, the family was able to survive, and 
his mother would frequently place moistened sheets to cover his crib 
from dust. He grew up on a farm in Wallace County and graduated from 
Wallace County High School as valedictorian in 1952. He attended Bethany
 College at Lindsborg. After 2 years in college, he enlisted in the US 
Army in 1954 which was between the Korean and Vietnam War. He was sent 
to Fort Mammoth, NJ to receive training, he entered signal school which 
developed technical skills necessary to automate, transmit and receive 
voice and data information for the Army. He also received training with 
carbine, US caliber 30 M-1 and graduated with an expert score. This was 
in the beginning of the guided missile research and development. He was 
transferred to the anti-aircraft artillery and guided missile program at
 White Sands Proving Grounds in New Mexico which at the time was a 
secret site of bomb testing. He became a member of the electronic 
trajectory unit as operator of a doppler transmitter station that 
determined ballistic trajectory data. He was often a responder who was 
the last person to prepare the missile for launch before count down. 
After leaving active duty he was part of the Emergency Reinforcement 
until Honorable Discharge in November 1962 and ranked as a SP4 USAR.&nbsp; He
 returned to Bethany to complete his college education with a bachelor’s
 degree in Math and Science.

Vernon met a young freshman in the commercial art program named 
Dixie. On July 17, 1960, he married Dixie Chain in Haven, Kansas and 
returned to Wallace County to start farming and begin their family. To 
this union four children were born, Steve, Diane, Mary, and David. 
Vernon and Dixie added a dairy and milk production to their busy life of
 farming. He decided to attend Greeley, Colorado and acquire the 
additional education he needed to teach math and science. He taught at 
Wallace County High School for 6 years until there wasn’t enough time to
 continue to teach due to a growing farm and a herd of registered 
Charolais cattle. Raising Charolais cattle was a great love of his. 
Vernon and Dixie sold the herd in 2001 when they decided to retire.&nbsp;

Vernon had a great talent for fixing things around the place, which 
often put him in his woodshop which he loved. He was a very dedicated 4H
 leader/project leader in the local club. He enjoyed people, especially 
young people; and it was evident in how they loved and respected him. 
Most important of all Vernon was a man of deep faith, he lived this 
faith out every day and made it a priority to his family. He served as 
an elder for many years. Vernon was a member of the Risen King Community
 Church in Weskan. He enjoyed helping in his community and spending time
 with his family and friends. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, Fritz and Lena; infant 
brother, Donald; and grandson, Luke Schemm.&nbsp; He is survived by his wife 
Dixie of 62 years; sons, Steve (Michelle) of Wallace, KS and David 
(Lisa) of Sharon Springs, KS; daughters, Diane (Mike) Kuykendall of 
Weskan, KS and Mary (Paul) Meyer of Auburn, KS; 12 grandchildren: Sarah 
(Taylor) Prescott of Conway, AR; Matt (Elena) Kuykendall of Tel Aviv, 
Israel; Lauren Kuykendall of Memphis, TN; Amanda (Kileab) Ammons of

Vernon and Dixie added a dairy and milk production to their busy life of
 farming. He decided to attend Greeley, Colorado and acquire the 
additional education he needed to teach math and science. He taught at 
Wallace County High School for 6 years until there wasn’t enough time to
 continue to teach due to a growing farm and a herd of registered 
Charolais cattle. Raising Charolais cattle was a great love of his. 
Vernon and Dixie sold the herd in 2001 when they decided to retire.&nbsp;Vernon had a great talent for fixing things around the place, which 
often put him in his woodshop which he loved. He was a very dedicated 4H
 leader/project leader in the local club. He enjoyed people, especially 
young people; and it was evident in how they loved and respected him. 
Most important of all Vernon was a man of deep faith, he lived this 
faith out every day and made it a priority to his family. He served as 
an elder for many years. Vernon was a member of the Risen King Community
 Church in Weskan. He enjoyed helping in his community and spending time
 with his family and friends. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Vernon is preceded in death by his parents, Fritz and Lena; infant 
brother, Donald; and grandson, Luke Schemm.&nbsp; He is survived by his wife 
Dixie of 62 years; sons, Steve (Michelle) of Wallace, KS and David 
(Lisa) of Sharon Springs, KS; daughters, Diane (Mike) Kuykendall of 
Weskan, KS and Mary (Paul) Meyer of Auburn, KS; 12 grandchildren: Sarah 
(Taylor) Prescott of Conway, AR; Matt (Elena) Kuykendall of Tel Aviv, 
Israel; Lauren Kuykendall of Memphis, TN; Amanda (Kileab) Ammons of

Vernon Duane Schemm

Dwayne Ezra Simon passed away Monday, September 26th, 2022, at the 
Sheridan County Health Complex, Long Term Care. He was 88 years old.

Dwayne
 was born May 5th, 1934, on the family farm in rural Sheridan County, to
 Murl and Stella (Sterrett) Simon the oldest of four children. He 
attended Bee Hive country school through his eighth-grade year, then 
attended Hoxie High School graduating with the class of 1952. Dwayne 
learned to drive tractors and trucks very young as a child and began 
helping on the farm. He developed mechanical and electrical skills which
 he used all his life and could work on anything and fix it. The 
children do not remember “repair men “ coming to the home for hardly 
anything because their dad “fixed it.”  When Dwayne was growing up and 
working with the cattle on the farm silage was still fed with a 
pitchfork and chores were a big part of the day. Dwayne loved cattle and
 horses and passed that love on too many of his children and 
grandchildren. He participated in 4-H and was a part of Saline Valley 
4-H club. Dwayne rode horses on the farm and many recall his horse 
Smokey that was a favorite. Entertainment was getting together with 
family and friends usually at a church social event. He was proud of the
 fact that his family was instrumental in founding Mt. Pleasant Church 
and over the years he shared his Christian faith with many that he came 
across on the road while driving trucks. In later years he went with a 
church group to Louisiana and helped provide needed services after 
hurricane devastation. That became a ministry focus for him in these 
recent days.

On December 21, 1952, Dwayne was united in
 marriage to Ila Richards at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in rural 
Studley, KS. For a short time, he worked in Colorado for the telephone 
company climbing many a pole. Then they returned to the family homestead
 just west of the church. Dwayne raised cattle and hogs and to 
supplement the family income he did custom hay work with many an early 
morning in the hay field swathing and then baling for many neighbors. 
Cowboy as he was known began trucking and hauled grain, livestock, and 
hot oil for highway construction. He took many trips to Kansas City to 
haul wheat to the terminal there. Over the years he had his own trucks 
and sometimes worked for various trucking companies. Trucking took him 
all over the country and none of the family can remember any serious 
accidents. He always said, “treat the other driver like it is your 
mother.”  He was an advocate for the industry even testifying at the 
State House on issues.

Dwayne will be missed by his 
three children, Curtis Simon and wife Deb of Quinter, Kansas; Melanie 
and husband Kevin Cooper of Hoxie, Kansas; and David Simon and wife Leah
 of Brighton, CO; grandchildren, Stephen Simon and wife Sarah of 
Quinter, KS; Becky and husband Lance Bruna of Barnes, KS; Jaime McMillan
 of Joplin, MO; Jesse Cooper and wife Sydney of Fayetteville, GA; Justin
 Cooper and wife Lindsay of El Dorado, KS; one brother, Lawrence Simon 
and wife Katherine of Morland, KS; great grandchildren Taylor and 
Madison Bruna, Oliver and Autumn Simon; Derrick, Colton and Hannah 
McMillan; Tatum and Micah Cooper; Kayden and Kolby Cooper; and a host of
 extended family and friends.

&nbsp;He was preceded in death
 by his parents, two infant children, Dwana and Danny Simon, a brother 
Fred Simon and a sister, Ruth Kerman.

A Celebration of 
Life is planned for Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at the Mount Pleasant 
Baptist Church, rural Studley, at 10:30 A.M. Visitation will be Monday, 
October 3, 2022, from 2:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M, with family receiving 
friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, 
Hoxie, Kansas. Inurnment will be later in the Baker Township Cemetery in
 Quinter, Kansas. Date to be announced and all are welcome. 

Memorials 
are suggested to Sheridan Health Complex LTC and Samaritan’s Purse

Stefanie Linn Turner, 44, passed away September 27, 2022, in Wamego.

She was born July 4, 1978, in Larned, the daughter of Philip Alan and Ann Vratil Schreiber.

A Larned resident until 2001, she moved to Wamego where she was the 
head of the billing department at Manhattan Dermatology. She was a 
member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned. She was always a helper 
and was active in the kids wrestling club. She loved music, reading, 
dogs, fishing, taking pictures, being outdoors, decorating for the 
holidays, watching the Chiefs and all K-State sports. She especially 
loved watching her kids, nieces and nephews in sports and all their 
activites.

On October 23, 1999, she married Cody Joe Turner at Larned; he survives.

Other survivors include: mother, Ann Schreiber, Larned; children, 
Adreana and Dalton Turner, of the home; sister, Emily (Michael) Racette,
 Larned; nieces and nephews, Jocelynn, Logan, Brayson, Camden, Kennedy, 
Savannah; and her beloved dogs, Mocha and Ashford.

She was preceded in death by: her father, Philip Schreiber; 
grandfather, Leon Schreiber, grandparents, Bill and Mildred Hanshew, and
 Leo and Nina Vratil.

Memorial mass will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 7, 2022, at Sacred 
Heart Catholic Church, Larned, with Father Bernard Felix presiding. 
Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2022 at 
Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with family present from 4-6 p.m. Inurnment

Marilyn (Klaus) Leiker, 80, Hays, died Thursday, September 29, 2022, at her home.

She was born March 14, 1942, in Hays, 
the daughter of Paul and Emmerentia (Haselhorst) Werth.&nbsp; In 1960, she 
graduated from Girls Catholic High School.&nbsp; She was the owner of Klaus 
Carpet.&nbsp; On June 2, 1962 she was united in marriage to Norman J. Klaus 
in Schoenchen, and they celebrated nearly 34 years of marriage before he
 preceded her in death on May 24, 1996.&nbsp; On June 30, 2001, she was 
united in marriage to Alexius “Alex” Leiker.&nbsp; He preceded her in death 
on February 2, 2020.&nbsp; She was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic 
Church and the VFW Auxiliary.

Survivors include her two sons: Neil 
Klaus and wife Sondra of Hays and Nolan Klaus and companion Shelley of 
Olathe, four stepsons: Curt Leiker and wife Davina of Greeley, Wes 
Leiker and wife Jenni of Hays, Todd Leiker of Olathe, and Mike Leiker 
and wife Kelly of Hays, 14 grandchildren: Adam Klaus, Amber Albers and

Marilyn (Klaus) Leiker

Charles “Charlie” Joseph Hoch passed away Thursday, September 29, 2022, 
in Topeka, Kansas, at the age of 63. He was born January 20, 1959, in 
Wilson, Kansas, to Rudy and Violette (Lank) Hoch. Charlie married 
Melanie Ann McComb on August 1, 1981, in Stockton, Kansas. They enjoyed 
41 years of fun and adventure together. Charlie grew up in 
Wilson and graduated from Wilson High School in 1977. He received his 
Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Education from Fort Hays State 
University in 1981. He taught Industrial Arts, Technology Education, and
 Drivers Education at Royal Valley High School in Hoyt, Kansas, from 
1982-2013, retiring after 31 years of service. He was also a high school
 track coach many of those years. After retiring from teaching, Charlie 
started a handyman service putting to use his woodworking and general 
“fix-it” skills. It was said by many that Charlie could fix anything, 
and he took pride in the quality of his work and being able to help 
others. He was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. 
 Charlie had a passion for British sports cars. He was a founding member
 of the Topeka British Car Club and served as the club’s president for 
many years. He and Melanie enjoyed several adventurous trips across the 
U.S. in their Triumph Spitfire and MGA. He was also a member of the Lake
 Sherwood Sailing Club where he enjoyed competing in the sailing races. 
He also enjoyed boating, fishing, and entertaining friends and family on
 the lake. Charlie had quite an interest in black powder shooting and 
target shooting. He participated in competition shooting and was skilled
 in hitting the bullseye. Some of Charlie’s best memories were made 
during the many vacations he and Melanie took together. Some of their 
favorite places to travel were Colorado, the gulf coast of Florida, the 
Caribbean, and Mexico. Charlie is survived by his wife, 
Melanie, of Topeka; sisters, Toni (Mike) Pflughoeft of Ellsworth, and 
Sydney (Bill) Connelly of Kingman, Arizona; brothers, Joe (Linda) Hoch 
of Des Moines, Iowa, and John (DeAnne) Hoch of Wilson; and many nieces 
and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudy and Violette Hoch. 
 Family will greet friends at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 6th, at Kevin 
Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka, KS 66614, where
 Celebration of Life will be at 3 p.m. Friends are invited to gather 
following the celebration at the Lake Sherwood Clubhouse, 6910 SW 
Fountaindale Road, Topeka KS 66614. An inurnment of ashes at Wilson

in Topeka, Kansas, at the age of 63. He was born January 20, 1959, in 
Wilson, Kansas, to Rudy and Violette (Lank) Hoch. Charlie married 
Melanie Ann McComb on August 1, 1981, in Stockton, Kansas. They enjoyed 
41 years of fun and adventure together. Charlie grew up in 
Wilson and graduated from Wilson High School in 1977. He received his 
Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Education from Fort Hays State 
University in 1981. He taught Industrial Arts, Technology Education, and
 Drivers Education at Royal Valley High School in Hoyt, Kansas, from 
1982-2013, retiring after 31 years of service. He was also a high school
 track coach many of those years. After retiring from teaching, Charlie 
started a handyman service putting to use his woodworking and general 
“fix-it” skills. It was said by many that Charlie could fix anything, 
and he took pride in the quality of his work and being able to help 
others. He was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. 
 Charlie had a passion for British sports cars. He was a founding member
 of the Topeka British Car Club and served as the club’s president for 
many years. He and Melanie enjoyed several adventurous trips across the 
U.S. in their Triumph Spitfire and MGA. He was also a member of the Lake
 Sherwood Sailing Club where he enjoyed competing in the sailing races. 
He also enjoyed boating, fishing, and entertaining friends and family on
 the lake. Charlie had quite an interest in black powder shooting and 
target shooting. He participated in competition shooting and was skilled
 in hitting the bullseye. Some of Charlie’s best memories were made 
during the many vacations he and Melanie took together. Some of their 
favorite places to travel were Colorado, the gulf coast of Florida, the 
Caribbean, and Mexico. Charlie is survived by his wife, 
Melanie, of Topeka; sisters, Toni (Mike) Pflughoeft of Ellsworth, and 
Sydney (Bill) Connelly of Kingman, Arizona; brothers, Joe (Linda) Hoch 
of Des Moines, Iowa, and John (DeAnne) Hoch of Wilson; and many nieces 
and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudy and Violette Hoch. 
 Family will greet friends at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 6th, at Kevin 
Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka, KS 66614, where
 Celebration of Life will be at 3 p.m. Friends are invited to gather

Theresa (Braun) Kuhn, age 88, of Victoria, Kansas, passed away Friday, September 30, 2022, at Via Christi Village Care Center Hays, Kansas.

She was born December 6, 1933, to Raymond P. and Agnes (Staab) Braun on the Braun family farm two miles west of Victoria, and assisted by Doctor Bert Anderson.

She married Oliver A. Kuhn on April 18. 1953, at St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria. &nbsp;He preceded her in death on August 1, 2004.

Theresa was a homemaker, a farmer’s wife, working with her husband whether it was cattle, hogs or harvest. &nbsp;She worked with her husband and son, as traffic controller and photographer for many years on all the house moving jobs they completed.&nbsp;

She lived all her life on the farm and attended Victoria High School. &nbsp;Theresa was a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis, the St. Fidelis Daughters of Isabella, and the Victoria V.F.W. Auxiliary. &nbsp;

She enjoyed her beautiful peonies in her huge yard, her vegetable garden and blackberries. &nbsp;She baked lots of harts and kuchens for funeral dinners. &nbsp;Her family was very precious to her, attending all of her grandsons sports activities, and no patching or sewing job was impossible. &nbsp;She was a seamstress for many years making formals and wedding dresses. &nbsp;

She is survived by her son, Robert Kuhn and wife, Debbie, Victoria, KS; her daughter Sharon Bleske and husband, Calvin, Victoria, KS; her grandson, Jordan Bleske and companion, Marcy Gaines; Ryan Bleske and wife, Kaitlynn; her great grandson, Kelton Bleske; her brother, John Braun and wife, Josie, Victoria, KS, her sister-in-law, Stella Braun, Hays, KS; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Theresa (Braun) Kuhn

Lyndell May Dykes, age 79, of WaKeeney, Kansas, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2022 in WaKeeney. She&nbsp;was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on June 15, 1943, to Gladys and Roy Dykes.&nbsp; Lyndell lived in Cheyenne through high school.&nbsp; She was in the first graduating class of Cheyenne East High School in 1961, where she was a member of the National Honor Society.&nbsp; Lyndell went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts from Hastings College in 1965.&nbsp; Upon graduation from Hastings College, she earned a prestigious grant to the Parson's School of Design in New York City where she studied art and worked for about two years.&nbsp; She decided to pursue a Master's degree at Fort Hays State and made Kansas her permanent home. Lyndell spoke four languages - English, French, Italian, and Spanish.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She taught high school art in Hill City for several years.&nbsp; She also owned The Studio in WaKeeney for 20+ years where she was an expert framer providing custom frames for many customers. Lyndell had the privilege of framing all of Dr. John Cody's original prints, which eventually hung on display at the Smithsonian and later at Johns Hopkins.

In May of 1979, Lyndell accepted a position with High Plains Mental Health Center to apply her teaching and art experience in working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. She worked in the partial hospital program teaching life skills and assisting clients in gaining the skills to live more independently. She became a licensed substance counselor and provided payee support for those needing assistance. Both clients and staff appreciated her compassion and her genuine concern for each individual. Because of her compassion, kindness and ability to hold the line, some clients referred to her as “Mother Teresa with an Attitude."&nbsp; She served the people of Northwest Kansas for 23 years.

&nbsp;She loved to travel, listen to music, play the violin, paint, play cards, golf with friends, and work in her greenhouse and garden. Throughout her lifetime, she loved her kitties as close friends.&nbsp; Lyndell had an abundance of friends; she never met a stranger.&nbsp; She was a bit of a foodie and loved peanut butter, chocolate, and all things lemon.&nbsp; Lyndell had a great dislike of the color green, which her brother teased her about profusely, and she and her nieces laughed about often.

Lyndell is survived by her brother, Howard G. Dykes (Jackie) of Cheyenne, Wyoming; nieces, Stacy Maestas (Christopher) and Kimberly Southworth (Jerome) who also live in Cheyenne; great nephews, Garrett Maestas (Haley) and Reagan Kosowicz; great nieces, Lakiea Jenkins (Jordan), Brenna Kosowicz, and Hannah Maestas; four great great nephews and one great great niece; her trusty companion, Dusty the Black Cat; and her adoptive families, too many to name, in WaKeeney.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gladys and Roy Dykes; numerous aunts and uncles, and life-long friends over the years.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Her family and close friends will host a reception with light refreshments to celebrate Lyndell’s life on Saturday, October 8, from 11:00 to 1:00 at the WaKeeney Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 332 N 6th Street, WaKeeney, KS. Use the East entrance.

Kathryn Jane (Basinger) Driver, 90, passed away Sept 28, 2022.&nbsp; She was born in Wichita KS, Sept 14, 1932.

She attended elementary and junior high schools in Wichita.&nbsp; After 
her father returned home from WWII the family moved to Garden City; 
while there, she completed high school.&nbsp; She ultimately received her BA 
degree in Business Administration – Public Administration from the 
College of Santa Fe, in Santa Fe, NM at the age of 59.&nbsp; 

She married Dr. 
Richard “Kay” Driver and lived in Goodland, KS; she was a homemaker and 
loved to play golf at Sugar Hills Country Club, where she was the Ladies
 Club Champion in the early 1970s.&nbsp; In 1975 she moved back to Garden 
City and worked in the insurance industry.&nbsp; Her twin sister suggested 
she relocate to New Mexico where she worked for the Los Alamos National 
Laboratory. Upon retiring she moved to Albuquerque, NM.&nbsp; In 2000, she 
joined her son and his family in Salina.&nbsp;&nbsp; Jane’s passion for nature, 
gardening, and Southwest Indian culture was always evident in her 
jewelry she wore and her home décor.&nbsp; She was a proud master gardener 
and an avid KSU fan.&nbsp; She was very active in hr church serving as a 
Deacon and Elder at the Salina First Presbyterian Church.

She leaves behind; son, Dr. Kenton Driver (Dr. Stacy Clark), and 
their children, Bailey and Benjamin; grandson, Kirby Driver Jr (Brenda),
 their children, Kaylee, Kirby and Kamden of Dallas, TX; granddaughter, 
Kelly Driver, and her daughter, Kennedy of Dallas, TX; and 
daughter-in-law, Teresa Driver of Dallas, TX.&nbsp; Preceded in death by son,
 Kirby Driver; her twin sister, Kathleen Joan Holliway; and parents, 
Clayton and Eloise Basinger.

There will be a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. Monday, Oct 10, 2022 at the Salina First Presbyterian Church.

home in Littleton, Colorado on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at the age 
of 74.

James M. Smith

It is with profound sadness, that I announce the death of my dad, 
Billy J. Alumbaugh.&nbsp; He passed away peacefully on September 26, 2022, 
surrounded by his family in Larned, KS.

My dad loved gardening, landscaping, and spending time with his 
family.&nbsp; Billy was especially fond of his grandchildren and was so 
excited to meet his new great-granddaughter, Claire, who is expected to 
be here soon.

Billy was born May 8, 1955, in Chula Vista, CA, and lived in 
Nickerson, Hutchinson, Turon, Lincoln, and most recently, Larned.&nbsp; He 
graduated from Nickerson High School in 1973 and worked as a laborer.&nbsp; 
He served in the United States Army from July 1973 to March 1976.

My dad could plant anything in the ground, and it would blossom into 
the most beautiful masterpiece.&nbsp; He tried in vain each year to teach me 
his craft, but finally succumbed to the realization that I just did not 
have the “magic touch” and allowed me to water his plants instead (but 
not too much and only during certain times of the day)!&nbsp; Billy loved 
mowing yards – any yard with any type of mower and at any time of the 
day.&nbsp; He knew exactly how to perfectly care for and maintain the most 
beautiful yards.&nbsp; Billy was also known for his beautiful food gardens 
that he planted every year.

Throughout his life, my dad was known for many things; making friends

Billy is survived by the love of his life, Debra Alumbaugh – a woman 
who should be considered for sainthood solely by withstanding all the 
stitches, broken bones, surgeries, car wrecks, explosions, 
electrocutions, lightning strikes, snake bites, and other traumatic 
events she witnessed during their 46 years together.

Other survivors include:&nbsp; his daughter, Jessica (David) MacMahon; 
grandchildren, MacKenzie (Preston) Pittman, David (Brandy Trengove) 
MacMahon, and Sarah MacMahon.&nbsp; Anytime he spoke about us, it brought a 
smile to his face and he always said that he was so proud of all of us 
and the people we turned out to be.&nbsp;

He is also survived by: &nbsp;his brothers,&nbsp; Don Michael (Kathy) Minnich 
of East Mountain, TX, and Mark (Carolyn) Blair of Longview, TX; sisters,
 Tammy (Rusty) Yarborough of McPherson, KS, Tammy Vincent of Marshall 
TX, and Vicky (LeRoy) Kuzel of Washington state; sisters-in-law, 
Kimberly and the late Melvin Hooker, and &nbsp;Vicki Dority and the late John
 Holmes; brother-in-law, Mitchell Dority; and a plethora of nieces and

Billy was preceded in death by: his adoptive parents, Faye and Dwight

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 3, 
2022, at the South Hutchinson Community Building, 101 West Avenue C, 
South Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp; Military honors will be conducted by the Fort 
Riley Honor Guard.&nbsp; Family and friends are invited to stay for a light 
meal after the service.

Honorary casket bearers are David MacMahon, David J. MacMahon,

surrounded by his family in Larned, KS.My dad loved gardening, landscaping, and spending time with his 
family.&nbsp; Billy was especially fond of his grandchildren and was so 
excited to meet his new great-granddaughter, Claire, who is expected to 
be here soon.Billy was born May 8, 1955, in Chula Vista, CA, and lived in 
Nickerson, Hutchinson, Turon, Lincoln, and most recently, Larned.&nbsp; He 
graduated from Nickerson High School in 1973 and worked as a laborer.&nbsp; 
He served in the United States Army from July 1973 to March 1976.My dad could plant anything in the ground, and it would blossom into 
the most beautiful masterpiece.&nbsp; He tried in vain each year to teach me 
his craft, but finally succumbed to the realization that I just did not 
have the “magic touch” and allowed me to water his plants instead (but 
not too much and only during certain times of the day)!&nbsp; Billy loved 
mowing yards – any yard with any type of mower and at any time of the 
day.&nbsp; He knew exactly how to perfectly care for and maintain the most 
beautiful yards.&nbsp; Billy was also known for his beautiful food gardens 
that he planted every year.Throughout his life, my dad was known for many things; making friends

Billy Joe Alumbaugh

Marilyn Edna Brehm, 86, passed away on February 26, 2022, at her home
 in Phoenix, Ariz. She was born on September 25, 1935, in the family 
homestead on the Barton/Stafford County line, in Stafford County to 
Ernest and Alice (Batchman) Spacil. Marilyn was married to William Brehm
 on June 25, 1965, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood, Kan. He 
passed away on July 22, 1996.

Marilyn grew up in Ellinwood, Kan., graduating from Ellinwood High 
School. She received all her sacraments at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 
in Ellinwood, Kan., 64 year member of the Daughters of Isabella 
Immaculate Conception Circle #744, and a member of St. Joseph Catholic 
Church in Phoenix, Ariz. Marilyn was a lady of many hobbies and skills: 
bowling, playing cards, being an excellent cook and homemaker.

Survivors include, a son, William “Bill” Brehm, II, and his fiancé, 
Janet Mariscal, of Phoenix, Ariz.; a grandson, William “Billy” Brehm, 
III, of Phoenix, Ariz.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She 
was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers, Ronald 
and Raymond Spacil; and a sister, Norma Mae (Spacil) King.

She was preceded in death by brother, Ronald Spacil, brother, Raymond Spacil, sister, Norma Mae (Spacil) King.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Mass of 
Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 
2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ellinwood, presided by Father 
Terrance Klein, preceded by the Daughters of Isabella Rosary at 9:30 
a.m. Inurnment will follow at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery.

Marilyn Edna Brehm

Merle Dean Lonnon passed away in Boulder, Colorado, on August 1st, 2002. He was 89 years old. Merle was born on Mother’s Day, May 14, 1933, on his grandfather’s homestead three miles east and two miles south of Ellis, Kansas. Merle’s loving parents were Inez Isabelle (Louage) Lonnon and John Jennings Lonnon. He was the youngest child in a family of five children. Merle had two sisters, Zoe and June, and two brothers, Gene and John. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Phyllis Ann (Disney) Lonnon, and siblings, Wiley Eugene Lonnon, Zoe Eileen (Lonnon) Moorehouse, and John Louage Lonnon. Merle’s dear sister, June Isabelle (Lonnon) Loveridge, survives and has been a wonderful comfort to Merle in his later years. Merle lived an exciting boyhood, helping his parents farm wheat by driving a tractor, and caring for cattle and horses. He attended a one-room country school house, Beaver Bank, before moving onto Main Street in Ellis, Kansas, across from the Methodist Church. Merle said the most important thing he learned from High School happened accidentally when his brother, John, and a friend gave him a beat-up old Model T car. Merle and his friends worked on five other cars and learned a lot by reading manuals and experimenting. In Merle’s own words, he had a good time going to high school, getting average grades, and playing basketball. After high school, Merle joined the Air Force applying as an auto or diesel mechanic but tested with an aptitude for a radar technician. Merle was stationed in Alaska from 1954 to 1956 in the 4th Mobile Squadron. After being discharged from the Air Force, Merle started a military career on the DEW Line as a Crypto-Radician, encoding and deciphering secret messages from U2 spy planes. Merle served two Air Force contracts, but on the flip of a coin, decided to leave the Air Force and go back to college. Merle started classes at Fort Hays State University and started dating Phyllis Disney that summer. Merle and Phyllis fell in love. Merle said it best himself, “The best part of Phyl was how she made me feel about myself; she had more confidence in me than I did. She would even laugh at my bad jokes.” They were married in a small ceremony in the Methodist Church in Ellis, Kansas, with a reception at the Disney home. Early in his married life, Merle received a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ. In 1965, Merle and Phyllis moved to Arden Hills, MN, where Merle started his 30-year career in the computer tech industry at Control Data and later Bit 3 Computer.&nbsp; Merle and Phyllis started their family of four children on Noble Road and would live there for the rest of their married life together. Merle encouraged his children to be active by playing table tennis and basketball, running cross country, and lifting weights. He spent many hours supporting his children’s activities. Merle inspired all his children to pursue college degrees in engineering fields. Ardith, Gene, Greg, and Daryl graduated from the University of Minnesota. Many also went on to receive more advanced engineering degrees. Without a doubt, his children had the same aptitude as Merle, but his encouragement and shining example were invaluable. In 2006, Merle was diagnosed with a Meningioma Brain tumor and underwent surgery to remove the tumor. Merle and Phyllis always felt great gratitude to Dr. Meyer, head of Neurosurgery at the Mayo Clinic, who performed the surgery, and the Mayo Clinic for their role in his surgery and recovery. With courage and grace, Merle always confronted his health issues head-on and was rewarded with more than fifteen additional years of productive life. During their retirement years, Merle and Phyllis enjoyed working on and visiting the Disney family home they owned in Ellis, Kansas. They traveled around the country to visit their growing family, with the addition of eight grandchildren. Ardith’s family, including Sam and their children Julia, and Grant, grew up in Colorado. Gene’s family with Rosanna and their children Matthew, Samantha, Cole, and Paige live in Florida. Greg and Melissa live in Idaho. Daryl’s family, including Sudha and their children Maya and Ethan, also live in Colorado. On December 10, 2014, Phyllis passed away at 80 years of age in St. Paul, Minnesota. Merle remained in Minnesota for almost five years before moving to Colorado a few months before the coronavirus pandemic lockdowns. His daughter, Ardith, and son, Daryl, feel fortunate to have shared those final years with their father, Merle. As both Merle and Phyllis wished, their memorial will be a joint ceremony honoring them both on October 8, 2022, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Ellis, Kansas, at 1:30 PM. Phyllis Ann (Disney) Lonnon passed away in St. Paul, Minnesota, on December 10th, 2014. She was 80 years old. Phyllis was born on November 1st, 1934, in WaKeeney, Kansas, to her loving parents, Mayme Ethel (Nelson) Disney and Robert Eugene Disney. Phyllis was the sister of three brothers, Bob, Walt, and Kep. Her parents and brothers, Robert William Disney and Walter Eugene Disney, preceded her death. Phyllis’ dear brother, Richard Kepple Disney, currently lives with his family on the East Coast. As a young girl, Phyllis enjoyed participating in Sunday dinners and the large extended family gatherings of the Disney and Nelson families. She helped her family, who owned the Mobil Gas Station right off Interstate 70 in Ellis, Kansas, for many years. Phyllis attended Ellis High School, where she enjoyed her friends and cheerleading. During high school, she worked at Geyer’s Rexall Drug Store. She attended the high school basketball games of her future husband, Merle. On August 16, 1962, Phyllis married Merle Dean Lonnon. The ceremony took place at the Methodist Church. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Disney home on Ross Street in Ellis, Kansas. Phyllis's teaching career began after she received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Kansas State University and a Master's Degree in Home Economics from the University of Arizona in Tucson. For ten years, Phyllis taught home economics in schools in Colby, Kansas, and Parker and Tucson, Arizona. When Merle graduated from college, Phyllis and Merle moved to Arden Hills, MN, and started their family of four children. Phyllis focused all her energy on nurturing and supporting her family. She perfected the art of teaching and designing almost anything, including furniture, clothing, food, and family life. Phyllis opened her home and yard to the Noble Road neighborhood, creating an environment where her children and friends always felt welcome. All four of her children have fond memories of those Noble Road years. Phyllis encouraged her children to enjoy life, study hard, and focus on a college education. By the time their college years were over, Ardith, Gene, Greg, and Daryl all had technical degrees, either Computer Science or Electrical Engineering, from the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology. Many went on to obtain advanced degrees, too. During their retirement years, Phyllis and Merle enjoyed working on and visiting the Disney family home they owned in Ellis, Kansas. They traveled around the country to visit their growing family, with the addition of eight grandchildren. Ardith’s family, including Sam and their children Julia, and Grant, grew up in Colorado. Many went on to obtain advanced degrees, too. During their retirement years, Phyllis and Merle enjoyed working on and visiting the Disney family home they owned in Ellis, Kansas. They traveled around the country to visit their growing family, with the addition of eight grandchildren. Ardith’s family, including Sam and their children Julia, and Grant, grew up in Colorado. Gene’s family with Rosanna and their children Matthew, Samantha, Cole, and Paige live in Florida. Greg and Melissa live in Idaho. Daryl’s family, including Sudha and their children Maya and Ethan, also live in Colorado. Phyllis’s husband, Merle, passed away on August 1st, 2022, in Boulder, Colorado. In 2008, Merle and Phyllis built memorial boxes and planned to be buried together. Dreiling, 90, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on September 27, 2022.
 Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Oct. 3, 11:00 a.m. at St. 
Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO. 
Visitation prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be 
made to St. Thomas More Catholic Church.

He was born on July 27, 
1932, to Fridolin Joseph and Agnes Dreiling in Hays, Kansas. Raised in 
St. Peter’s Parish, he attended Hogan High School, UMKC, and St. Louis 
University School of Dentistry and Orthodontics. After graduating he 
joined his brother and father in practicing orthodontics on the Plaza 
forming Dreiling, Dreiling, and Dreiling. He always enjoyed running into
 former patients and asking to see their smile, always remembering the 
ones who didn’t wear their retainer.

An avid sports fan he loved 
playing golf and tennis and cheering on his beloved Chiefs and Royals. 
He enjoyed being part of the Lake Lotawana community for over 60 years 
and nothing made him happier than his yard full of friends and family 
enjoying themselves.

Ron, a man of faith, was a founding member of
 St. Thomas More Catholic Parish where he sent his five children to 
school and remained a lifetime member. He was a wonderful father and 
considered his five children to be his greatest legacy.

Ron is 
survived by his five children; Maria Dreiling Bourk (Gib), Michelle 
Dreiling Fitzgerald (Dan), Fred Dreiling (Erin), Ron Dreiling Jr. 
(Suzi), Tom Dreiling (Karolyn); eleven grandchildren, Katie, Maggie, and
 Paul Bourk, Danny and Patrick Fitzgerald, Lily and Freddy Dreiling, 
Reagan and Caroline Dreiling, and Tommy Jr. and Addie Dreiling.
