Family members are sad to announce the passing of Steve Rome of Hugoton,
 Kansas. Steve was 69 years old and died on August 8th at St. 
Catherine’s Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He passed from this life 
surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer. 
 Steve was born on March 7, 1953, in Garden City to Dave and Evelyn 
Rome. The family moved to Hugoton, Kansas to begin a farming operation 
when Steve was one year old. He was a graduate of Hugoton High School in
 1971 and went on to complete an Agronomy degree from Fort Hays State 
University in 1975. He was a member of Delta Sigma Chi Fraternity while 
attending school there. He began his career by going to work for the 
Kansas State Extension field and research center in Garden City, and 
then went on to be the Agronomist for the Garden City Cooperative.

Steve enjoyed using his expertise and friendly personality to work 
alongside many farmers in the Garden City area. While working at the 
Coop, he met his future wife, Robynn Ridenour, and they were married in 
Garden City on April 3, 1982. When his father retired from farming, the 
couple moved to Hugoton, and Steve continued the irrigated farming 
operation along with his brother Keith Rome. A few years later, another 
brother Dave Rome joined the farming operation and over the next 40 
years, they built a very successful and large irrigated farming 
operation. 
 Steve and Robynn raised two children – Jennifer, born in 1984 and 
Justin, born in 1986, both of which graduated from Hugoton High School. 
The family are members of the First Christian Church in Hugoton where, 
through the years, Steve was active in Sunday school, children’s church,
 bible study and various church committees. He also served as Deacon for
 the church. 
 Steve’s civic duties were numerous. He served on the Stevens County
 Extension Board, City Council and the Economic Development Committee in
 Hugoton and won the Shakers and Movers award for his work on leading 
the development of independent gas utilities for area irrigated farmers.
 Realizing this need and benefit for area irrigation farmers was a 
passion for Steve at the time. He made numerous trips to Topeka to 
testify before state congress, and worked with countless resources, 
lawyers, lawmakers and the state groundwater and natural gas agency to 
see legislation and regulations passed for the benefit of the area 
irrigated farmers. 
 Steve also represented the agricultural profession by serving 20 
years on the Kansas Corn Growers Association and the Kansas Corn 
Commission where he used his experience and expertise in agriculture to 
benefit farmers across the state. 
 Steve will be remembered for his unfailing work ethic, his friendly 
personality, his professionalism and fortitude in seeing effective 
issues accomplished, and his willingness to come at any time to help a 
neighbor or friend in need. 
 Steve is preceded in death by his parents Evelyn and Dave Rome, and 
his sister Diane Johnson of McPherson, KS. He is survived by his wife, 
Robynn, of Hugoton, his daughter Jennifer of Omaha, NE, and his son 
Justin of Hugoton. He is survived by his three brothers – Richard Rome 
and wife Connee, Keith Rome and wife Lisa, and Dave Rome and wife Lori, 
all of Hugoton, along with his two sisters Carol Birdsell and husband 
Bill of Kansas City, MO and Mary Rome of Louisville, KY. He will be 
greatly missed by his numerous nieces and nephews, along with many 
extended family members and friends who will greatly miss him. 
 Family and friends will gather to remember and celebrate Steve’s 
life on Thursday, August 11th, at 2 PM at the First Christian Church in 
Hugoton with a graveside service to follow at Hugoton Cemetery. 
Visitation is Wednesday, August 10th from 2 PM until 8 PM with family 
greeting friends from 6 PM until 8 PM at Garnand Funeral Home, 920 E. 
11th St., Hugoton.

Steve Rome

Gary Lee Durland, 82, passed away on August 6, 2022, at Kentwood 
Plaza, in St. John, Kan. Gary was born in Lindsborg, Kan. on March 1, 
1940, to Olin and Mabelle (Peterson) Durland, who also gave him a 
brother, Bobby Jack. The family later moved to Lyons, Kan., where Gary 
graduated from Lyons High School and then continued his education in 
Kansas City, where he graduated from auto-mechanic school.

Following graduation, Gary moved to Dodge City, Kan., where he met 
the love of his life, Mary Louise Kohn. They married on November 17, 
1962, and shared 7 children and 54 wonderful years of marriage prior to 
her passing on January 14, 2018. After moving to Great Bend in 1964, 
Gary worked at Big A/Car Quest Auto Parts Store and Sanko Motors, and 
later drove bus for the Center and the Senior Center. Along with work, 
he spent many hours enjoying his woodworking hobby. He was extremely 
talented and, at one time, had 81 wood carvings in the house - excluding
 the ones he enjoyed giving away. Gary was a man of deep faith and love 
for the Lord and showed this as a member of Prince of Peace Parish, 
through worship, being a religious education teacher, and a communion 
minister.

Survivors include two sons, Ron (Diane) Durland of Great Bend and 
David (Angela) Durland of Spring Hill; four daughters, Barbara (Delbert)
 Downey of Wright, Jeanette (Brian) Standlee of Belvue, Linda Durland 
and Carla Durland, both of Wichita; 10 grandchildren; three 
great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Galen (Doris) Kohn; sister-in-law 
Sandy Kohn (Jerry Hale); cousins, Betty Ludwig and Eldon Peterson; and 
several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife; a son, 
Gregory; his parents; and his brother.

Visitation will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, 
August 11, 2022 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family receiving at 6:00 
p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be
 held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, August 12, 2022, at St. Rose of Lima 
Catholic Church with Father Bob Schremmer presiding. Interment will 
follow at Great Bend Cemetery. 

Memorials have been designated to the 
Senior Center or the Durland Memorial Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral

Gary Lee Durland

Kenneth Leroy Hanson Sr., age 83, of Randolph, passed away Saturday August 6, 2022, at the Salina Regional Health Center.

He was born on March 25, 1939, in Manhattan, the son of Kenneth and Leona (Jensen) Hanson.&nbsp; He graduated from old Randolph High School in 1957.

On June 1, 1958, in Salem, Missouri, he married Bonnie Jean Burkman.&nbsp; She survives of the home.

Kenneth graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University with a teaching degree and began his career at Lewis, Kansas, for two years, Randolph for two years and then Logan, Kansas for 27 years.&nbsp; During this time, he earned his master’s degree from Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; In 1997, he returned to Blue Valley to become the Middle and High School principal, retiring in 2004.&nbsp; Following his retirement, he continued to substitute teach and drive a school bus until he turned 80.

He was a member of the Alert Covenant Church and enjoyed riding horses, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.&nbsp; During his many years of teaching and coaching, he made a positive impact on many of his students and athletes.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Kenneth Hanson Jr. and wife Debbie of Salina, Christine Marshall and husband Cullen of Solomon, John Hanson and wife Lee Ann of Baldwin City and Julie Weidenhaft and husband Brandon of Hays; three brothers, Melvin Hanson of Hutchinson, Gene Hanson of El Dorado and Steve Hanson of Manhattan; two sisters, Shirley O’Quinn of Bartow, Florida and Wanda Murphy of Milwaukie, Oregon; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant sons, Stephen and Karl Hanson.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2022, at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kansas.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the Alert Covenant Church with Pastor Dwight Diller officiating.&nbsp; The family encourages all in attendance to wear clothing from their favorite sports team.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Randolph Fancy Creek Cemetery.

Kenneth Leroy Hanson Sr.

Warren L. Landauer, 61, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2022.&nbsp; He was born in Hays, KS to Milfred and Twila (Rohr) Landauer. &nbsp;

Warren’s faith was important growing up in the Catholic Church.&nbsp; He 
was an altar boy in his youth and went on a six-week mission trip to 
Brazil in 1979.&nbsp; He was a Boy Scout and a member of the Order of the 
Arrow honor society. &nbsp;

Warren was a self-proclaimed jack of all trades, master of none. He 
was a CNC operator and maintenance supervisor but most of all loved 
being a farmhand, herdsman and cowboy. &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents. &nbsp;

He is survived by his daughters, Sophie Landauer and Amanda Yonker; 
son, Wesley Landauer; and sisters; Donna Mays Wanda Mitchell, and Rhoda 
Jo Wray.

A rosary and vigil service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, 
August 11, 2022, with a Funeral Mass following at 1 p.m. all at St. 
Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Salina.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in All 
Saints Catholic Cemetery, Salina. &nbsp;

Constance Lucille “Connie” Eulert, 81, of Russell, Kansas, and former
 Paradise, Kansas resident, died on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at the 
Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Connie was born on July 11, 1941, in Great Bend, Kansas, the daughter
 of Donald and Nova (Alderson) Stamey.&nbsp; She grew up in and attended 
school in Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; She met fell in love and was united in 
marriage to Harold Otto “Harry” Eulert on January 23, 1960, in Hays, 
Kansas.&nbsp; Connie and Harry made their home in Paradise, Kansas and from 
this union they were blessed with 2 daughters Corianne Lea and Sherri.&nbsp; 
She helped Harry work the family farm but also worked at the Russell 
County Court House Appraiser’s Office and worked as a travel guide for 
Please Go Away Vacations.&nbsp; She was a longtime member of the Peace 
Lutheran Church in Natoma, Kansas and enjoyed traveling and watching 
survivor with her daughter Sherri.&nbsp; Most of all she enjoyed spending 
time with her family, she especially enjoyed spending time and spoiling 
her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving family include her daughter Sherri L. Glenn and husband 
Ken; her sister Pam Herrman and husband Stan of Littleton, Colorado; her
 5 grandchildren Chris and Heather Glenn, Breanna Eulert, Sara Fattig 
and Ashley Jones; and &nbsp;5 great grandchildren Parker Jones, Ambree Glenn,
 Wyatt Fattig, Morgan Fattig &amp; Daylin Glenn-Homewood and nieces and 
nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry on September 
15, 2007, and daughter Corianne Lea Eulert on March 19, 2017, 2 infant 
children, brother Gary Stamey and sister Lila Johnson.

A gathering service will be held from 4:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. on 
Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in 
Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; Open visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 7 P.M. on 
Thursday, August 11th with the gathering service and family 
greeting guests Thursday evening.&nbsp; 

Memorials may be given to the 
Fairport Cemetery and sent in care of the mortuary.&nbsp; 
Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the

Constance Lucille 'Connie' Eulert

Larry Elmer Trout, 76, formerly of Bushton, Kansas, passed away on 
August 1, 2022, at Webster, Texas.&nbsp; Larry was born to Elmer and Emma 
Trout on July 24, 1946, in Great Bend, KS. He was raised on the family 
farm in Olmitz, KS and graduated from Hoisington High School. Larry 
often reminisced on fond memories of time spent with his parents, 
brother, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his Aunt Virginia 
Berlin of Boulder, CO and several loving cousins.

Larry shared 43 years of marriage with Laura, the love of his life, 
who survives him. He is also survived by three children: Dawn Trout of 
Rocky Ford, CO; Danny Trout of Lake Jackson, TX; and Crystal Trout of 
Lake Jackson, TX; and four grandchildren: Dylan Mortimore (&amp; fiancé 
Madison Cotterill) of Ellinwood, KS; Layne Trout of Rocky Ford, CO; and 
Emma Trout of Lake Jackson, TX. Larry is survived by his Brother-in-law,
 Scott (Ashley) Temple of Olmitz, KS; Sister-in-law Vicky (Richard) 
Romero of Longmont, CO; Sister-in-law Jo Temple of Bushton, KS; and 
Mother-in-law Karen Allison of Bushton, KS.

In addition to being a loving Husband, Father, and Papa, Larry loved 
raising cattle, working on projects including cars, tractors, houses, 
etc., and making people laugh.&nbsp; He never knew a stranger and could spend
 hours talking to people he just met.&nbsp; Throughout his entire life, Larry
 held an unwavering faith in God and was proud to share his Catholic 
Faith with others.

Larry joins his parents, Elmer and Emma Trout; his brother, Paul 
Trout; his daughter, Charlie Trout; and his Father-in-law Larry Temple 
in Heaven.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 11, 
2022, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Great Bend, Kansas with a Rosary 
recited at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, 
August 12, 2022, at 10:30am 
also at St. Rose Catholic Church with interment to follow in Hoisington 
Cemetery at Hoisington, Kansas.

Joyce Deanne (Phillips) Essmiller, 96, passed away August 7, 2022, at
 HaysMed, Hays, Kansas, after a short illness. She was born February 11,
 1926, in Hoisington, Kansas to Mark Paul and Ida Marie (Willcutt) 
Phillips. She spent her early years in Hoisington before moving to Great
 Bend. She graduated from Great Bend High School and married her high 
school sweetheart, Arnold Essmiller Jr. on January 19, 1944. They 
celebrated almost 74 years of marriage before his passing on November 
21, 2017.

Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother; 
her family was her pride and joy, and always came first. She was a 
wonderful cook who loved hosting large holiday meals and family 
gatherings, traveling anywhere anytime, family genealogy, reading and 
her bridge groups. She was friendly and outgoing, loved meeting new 
people, and could talk to anyone about almost anything.

She was a homemaker who, when her children neared college age, worked
 as a bookkeeper at Mullin Furniture, was secretary of the Barton County
 Farm Bureau Board for 10 years, worked at Steadman &amp; Hawk 
Accountants, then at Midwest Energy until her retirement. Joyce was a 
charter member of Shamrock Extension Unit, a 4-H Food Leader, a member 
of Business &amp; Professional Women, First Presbyterian Church and 
former Ladies’ Circle Chairperson, and had served on the Board of the 
Great Bend Girls’ Home. She and Arnold were also members of a couple’s 
pitch club which met for almost 60 years.

She is survived by her daughters, Jan Marie Bolick of Carmel, IN, 
ArNell Deanne Briel (Jon) of Great Bend, and Jadean Louise Takao (Eric) 
of Kailua, HI; four grandchildren, Brent Arnold Bolick (Amy) of 
Jacksonville, FL, Wendy Deanne Sundahl (Shane) of Larned, KS, Robin Ann 
Murphy (Matt) of Fishers, IN, and Hayley Lynne Dicks (Shane) of Great 
Bend; and eight great grandchildren, Sophie and Olivia Bolick, Conner 
Deer, Brady Murphy, Dalton and Parker Dicks, and Slade and Darby 
Sundahl; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her 
parents; her loving husband, Arnold; a sister, Beverly Brummett; and 
four brothers, Francis, Wayne, Marion and Maurice Phillips.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, August
 11, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 
6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, 
August 12, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church, 24th and 
Washington, Great Bend, with Reverend Kathleen Luke presiding. Interment

Richard L. “Dick” Barton, age 89, passed away on Monday, August 8, 
2022, at his home in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on May 15, 1933, 
in Hutchinson, Kansas, the son of Henry LaVerne and Dorothy Marie Welty 
Barton.&nbsp; A resident of Scott City, Kansas, since 1979 moving from 
Dighton, Kansas, he was a retired school administrator.

He was a US Marine Veteran of the Korean Conflict, and was a member 
of the United Methodist Church, Anthem Masonic Lodge #284 both of Scott 
City, Kansas, and was a Past Potentate of Isis Shriners of Salina, 
Kansas.

On July 25, 1957, he married Joy Graver in Ash Valley, Kansas.&nbsp; She survives.

Survivors include his Wife - Joy Barton of Scott City, Kansas, Three 
Sons - Rod &amp; Wanda Barton of Scott City, Kansas, Chad &amp; Mary Jo 
Barton of Great Bend, Kansas, Kale Barton of Scott City, Kansas, and Two
 Daughters - Jill &amp; Gary Hass of Salina, Kansas, Heidi &amp; Ken 
Ring of Clay Center, Kansas, One Brother - Donald &amp; Sharon Barton of
 Hays, Kansas, Nine Grandchildren, and Seven Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Step-Mother, Two Brothers - 
Bruce Barton and Kenneth Barton, and One Grandson - Curtis Emberton.

Melvin Pfannenstiel

Marvin A. Beougher, age 87, of Grainfield, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at Sheridan County&nbsp;Health Center in Hoxie, Kansas. Marvin was born November 9, 1934, to Merlyn and Vivian (Smith) Beougher, in Gove, Kansas. He graduated from Gove Rural High School with the class of 1952.

Marvin&nbsp;married&nbsp;Marilea&nbsp;JoAnne Johnson&nbsp;on February 12, 1956, in Gove at the Gove United Methodist Church,&nbsp;and together&nbsp;they enjoyed 63 years of marriage&nbsp;until her passing in 2019. Marvin and Marilea were blessed with two children, son Marlin, and daughter Marvel.

Marvin was drafted into the United States Army in April of 1958, where he served 1 year in Fort Sill, Oklahoma before being deployed to Neckarsulm, Germany for an additional year, serving as the Postal Officer in the 46th&nbsp;Artillery Group. After returning home in April of 1960, Marvin served an additional two years in the standby reserve, as well as 2 years in the ready reserve, before receiving his Honorable Discharge in April of 1964.

Marvin&nbsp;was the comptroller for the Gove&nbsp;County&nbsp;Cooperative and Midwest Co-op for 44 years until his retirement in April of 1997. He was commander of the Grainfield American Legion in 2011, a member of the Gove County Historical Association Museum, and a Kansas Hunter Safety Education instructor for 50 years. He was also a member of the Lion’s Club, Grainfield UMC Lay Leader, and founder of Beougher Field. Marvin enjoyed fishing, hunting, and all kinds of sports.

Marvin A. Beougher

Bernita Jean (Duffey) Gawith was born September 10, 1935, on the family 
farm in Menlo to Ray and Eva (Moos) Duffey. Bernita was the 9th of 12 
children. She loved spending time with her siblings. 
 Bernita married Mike Gawith on July 30, 1955, in Colby, KS. They were
 blessed with three children: Gary (Jeannie), Peggy, and Scott (Misty).

James Francis Schmidtberger

Leroy "Lee" Munk, age 85, passed away peacefully in Salina on Saturday, Aug 6th, 2022.

He was born to Ted W Munk and Alexia (Walter) Munk and raised on the family farm near Walker in Ellis County, Kansas.

Lee was an athlete as well as a scholar, graduating from Victoria 
High School and earning a football scholarship to St. Benedicts.&nbsp; He 
graduated from Fort Hays State University, joined the National Guard, 
and trained to be a medic at Fort Sam Houston.

He married Norma Jean Engel at St Joseph Church in Hays in 1961. 
After earning a master’s degree from Emporia State University, he taught
 high school chemistry and biology and coached basketball in Derby, KS.

In 1967, Lee and Norma moved to Salina, Kansas, where he enjoyed a 
40-year career as an agricultural pharmaceutical representative, and he 
and Norma raised their family.

Upon retirement, he spent time maintaining his properties and working
 with the Tractor Supply Company, where he enjoyed interacting with 
local farmers and ranchers. Lee enjoyed American History, gardening, 
backyard barbecues, getting up early to start his days, and a good 
movie.

Lee was defined by his love of family, his powerful work ethic, his well-mannered respectful nature, and his love of solitude.

His parents and sister, Charlene (Munk) Dreiling, preceded him in 
death.&nbsp; He is survived by his wife Norma Jean of 61 years, sister, 
Terese Jones and her husband Doug, daughter Connie Williams and her 
husband Greg, son Curtis Munk and his wife Becky, and daughter, Ilene 
Munk, and two grandsons, Alex and Ian Gaekwad.

Visitation will be at Ryan Mortuary in Salina, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, 
on Wednesday, August 10th, with a rosary to follow from 7:00 to 8:00 pm.

The funeral mass will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Salina, on Thursday, August 11, at 10:00 am.

Burial will be at 3:00 pm in the family plot in St. Ann’s Cemetery in Walker, Kansas.

Memorials may be sent to St. Mary’s Church in Salina or St. Ann’s church in Walker.

Lee touched many lives in a profound way, and he will be missed.

Carolina, loving wife and mother of four, died Wednesday, August 3, 2022,&nbsp; at Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta, Georgia.

She was born June 4, 1950, in McCook, Neb., the daughter of Francis and Wilburma (Shields) Winkler.&nbsp; She 
graduated from Oberlin High School and went on to receive her nursing 
degree from Washburn University.&nbsp; Joyce was a practicing pediatric, home
 health, and hospice nurse for 40 years.&nbsp; On October 28, 2000, she 
married Thomas Misiag of Aiken.

Survivors include her husband Tom of 
Aiken, SC, four children: Jessica Johnson and husband Brandon of Hays, 
Kristopher Marintzer and wife Anna Beth of De Soto, Cody Marintzer and 
wife Karen of Hays, and Shiloh Martinez and husband Adrian of Sartell, 
MN, 15 grandchildren whom she adored: Tucker, Jersey, and Cooper 
Johnson, Mason, Miles, and Meryn Marintzer, Caleb, Mattias, Joshua, 
Catherine, Benjamin, Cecilia, and Augustin Marintzer, Isabel and 
Sebastian Martinez, and a nephew whom she thought of as her own: Joshua 
Waddell and wife Tina of Hays.

She was preceded in death by her parents, twin sister: Janet Sue Waddell, and a granddaughter: Tess Rose Johnson.

Joyce Ann Misiag

Larry Dean Kilian passed away July 31, 2022, at 85 years of age at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas.&nbsp; 

Larry was born February 21, 1937, in Ellsworth, Kansas. Larry 
competed in shot put in Junior High track and field and was on the 440 
relay team, posting a new school record with a 51.4 run. He also played 
varsity football all 4 years of high school, played men’s basketball, 
and ran track. In 1955, he was part of the Russell Broncos Men’s 
Basketball team State Class A Champions.&nbsp; Larry met Donna Lee Franklin 
at a band trip to the fair in Salina, Kansas, and started dating at age 
15. This relationship continued until he was united in marriage to Donna
 on July 31, 1960. Their first year of marriage they moved from Russell 
to Hoxie, Kansas, where Donna taught second grade and Larry taught 
grades 5-8 at a nearby little town—Studley, Kansas.

Larry and Donna moved back to Russell in 1963 where he began farming 
with his father.&nbsp; They farmed wheat and milo and raised Angus cattle. 
Harvest time was his favorite time because family all pitched in and 
worked it.&nbsp; Donna made lunch at the house for all the workers and 
prepared sandwiches for them to eat later for dinner. Dad took his 
30-minute power nap after lunch before going back out in the field.&nbsp;

In June 2006, Larry and Donna decided to retire from their farm life 
in Russell after 45 years.&nbsp; Larry and Donna chose to make a move to 
Eudora, Kansas, to be close to family.&nbsp; They enjoyed going to 
auctions/estate sales, traveling with family and friends, and attending 
their grandsons’ basketball and baseball games.&nbsp; As a pastime Larry took
 up stained glass, which, for a “farm boy from a small town in Kansas,” 
he was very talented He also enjoyed refinishing furniture. He displayed
 these beautiful creations in his booth at the D. Palma and Co. 
Mercantile antique mall in Russell and gave them as gifts to friends and
 family.

Larry was preceded in death by his father and mother, Johnny Kilian 
and Alvina Lucille (Krug) Kilian; and his wife. He is survived by one 
daughter, Karla Jean (Doug) Krause of DeSoto, Kansas; one son, Stuart 
John (JoAnn) Kilian of Gorham, Kansas; and three grandsons, Travis 
(Staci) Krause of Wichita, Kansas; Trent Krause (Kaytlyn Green) of 
Lenexa, Kansas; and Cameron Kilian of Gorham, KS.

The family extends their heart-felt thanks to the many friends who 
visited, phoned, and sent cards during the past months.&nbsp; They also 
extend their gratitude to the nurses and physicians at Lawrence Memorial
 Hospital, Precision Cancer Center, and the Douglas County Visiting 
Nurses and Hospice Care. Larry will truly be missed by the many people 
whose hearts he touched.

A graveside memorial service to celebrate Larry’s life will be held 
at 10 A.M. on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at the Russell City Cemetery in
 Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Friday, 
August 19, 2022, at the mortuary with family greeting guests from 6 P.M.
 to 8 P.M. Friday evening.&nbsp; Cremation has been selected by the family.&nbsp;

funeral services.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Jeannine “Jeannie” Horn, 92, died on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at Lane 
County Hospital in Dighton. She was born on April 21, 1930 at 
Hutchinson the daughter of Ralph Hamilton &amp; Geraldine Estelle 
(Mitchell) Wilson. She married Lawrence Albert “Lefty” Horn on January 
1, 1950. He died on April 16, 2002. 
Jeannie graduated from Sterling High School in 1948. At the age of 16 
she started working in Sterling Cafe and later J.C. Penny’s and IGA 
Grocery Store. After her marriage she moved to Dighton and worked at 
the SRS Office for 10 years and 18 years in the office at Lane County 
Hospital. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and sang in 
the choir for 25 years. She enjoyed playing bingo and being involved 
with her Grandchildren. 
She is survived by her Daughter- Toni Molina of Canyon, Texas, 3 Sons- 
Craig Horn of Ness City, Larry Horn of Dighton and Lloyd Horn of Fort 
Worth, Texas, 6 Grandchildren, 4 Great-Grandchildren, Brother- Robert 
Wilson of Midland, Texas , Half Sister- Mary Navarro of Lyons. She was 
preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Sister Donna Mae Kisling, 2 
Brother- Robert A. Wilson and 1 Grand-Daughter.

Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson, Kansas.&nbsp; Grace was born on 
September 3, 1963, at Great Bend to James H. and Mary (Boman) Gardner.&nbsp; 


She graduated from Great Bend High School and worked as Admissions 
Director, Activities Director, and Certified Nurses Assistant for the 
former Great Bend Manor Nursing Home and later worked as Certified 
Nurses Assistant for the Dominican Sisters Convent in Great Bend for 13 
years prior to her retirement. Grace enjoyed knitting and crocheting, 
attending professional wrestling events (and later watching them on 
television), and going to Michael Bolton concerts throughout the area in
 her younger days.

Survivors include one sister, Sue Meyeres of Great Bend, Kansas; two 
nieces:&nbsp; Melissa Fields of Great Bend, Kansas and Mary Vasquez of 
Concordia, Kansas; one nephew James (and his wife Joyce and son Anakin) 
Fields of Cuba, Missouri.&nbsp; Grace was preceded in death by her parents; 
one sister Linda L. Fields and one brother Jack D. Boyer.

According to her wishes, cremation has been chosen and inurnment will
 take place in the Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend, Kansas at a later

Wayne Harold Hagerman, 74, passed away August 6, 2022, in Larned, KS.

He was born May 17, 1948, at Great Bend, KS, the son of Harold E. and 
Julia E. Brady Hagerman. A lifetime area resident, he was a 
farmer/stockman and served as State Representative 114th District for a two-year term.

He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Albert, Santa Fe Trail 
Center, Fort Larned Old Guard, Kansas Wheat Commission, and was a 
lifetime Kansas State Alumni and Veteran.

On May 2, 1981, he married Brenda West at Peace Lutheran Church, Albert, KS.&nbsp; She survives.

Other survivors include: brother, Charles (Chris) Hagerman, Larned; 
sister, Margaret Ann Spreier, Larned; six nephews, Lance Hagerman, Jeff 
Spreier, Tim Spreier, Brandon Holloway, Bryce Craig, Joshua Riedel and 
two nieces, Brianna Miller, Kayli Greer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Bill Spreier.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 11, 2022, at 
Larned Cemetery, Larned, KS, with Pastor David Spare presiding. 
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at 
Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.

Loren Wesley Luther, age 77, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2022.&nbsp; 
He was born March 27, 1945, to Lloyd and Thelma (Mather) Luther in 
Oakley, Kansas.&nbsp;

He grew up in western Logan County and went to grade school at Winona
 Consolidated School, one year in Brewster and then graduated from 
Winona in 1965.&nbsp; He married Greta “Rita” Wimer, to this union Lloyd 
Allen and Brian Wayne were born.&nbsp;

He worked in a sawmill in Longview, Washington, until they&nbsp;moved back
 to Kansas to help on the farm until they sold the farm, then he worked 
at a dairy, farming and ranching, and at a&nbsp;foundry in Salina. 
&nbsp;After&nbsp;an&nbsp;accident he returned to Sharon Springs where Loren&nbsp;and his 
son, Brian started B&amp;L Construction until he retired in 2005. 
&nbsp;During his&nbsp;retirement he enjoyed doing odd jobs, cutting wood, 
gardening, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and 
friends.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Lloyd Alan; brother, Lyle Eugene.&nbsp;

Loren is survived by his friend, Darlene Freytag of Goodland; son, 
Brian (Connie) Luther of Norton, KS; grandsons, Drew Riley of 
North&nbsp;&nbsp;Dakota and&nbsp;Blaine Luther of North Platte, NE; granddaughter, 
Chalee&nbsp;Luther of Goodland, KS; brothers, Phillip (Carolyn) Luther of 
Longview, WA and Michael (Diane) Luther of Goodland; sister Margaret

Loren Wesley Luther (1945-2022)

Jerry Lee Winter was born January 5, 1935, in rural Kit Carson County,&nbsp; Colorado, just southwest of Kanorado, Kansas, to Wayne and Sylvia 
(Armitage) Winter. &nbsp;Jerry lived his entire life in the Kanorado area 
where he attended school and graduated with the class of 1953.

On July 14, 1953, he married Melba Coons.&nbsp; They lived on a farm 
southeast of Kanorado and eventually moved their house to a half mile 
south of Kanorado where they raised their three sons.&nbsp; Jerry and Melba 
milked cows for a few years, farmed and Jerry began aerial spraying with
 his father.&nbsp; He continued to run Winter Flying Service after his father
 retired and was an aerial spray pilot for over 45 years.&nbsp; Jerry enjoyed
 building things and incorporated that with his passion of aviation when
 he built a snowplane utilizing an aircraft engine. He later built a 
flat bottom boat, once again using an aircraft engine. &nbsp;

While in high school, he participated in football, basketball and 
baseball and later played town team basketball and summer softball.&nbsp; He 
spoke often of these experiences. Jerry and Melba were proud supporters
 of their children and grandchildren and spent many hours and miles 
following their activities.

He was proceeded in death by wife Melba (Coons) Winter in October of 
2021, his parents A. Wayne Winter and Sylvia (Armitage) Reynolds, 
brother Don (Joyce) Winter.&nbsp; 

He is survived by sons Gary (Deb) Winter of
 Kanorado; Larry (Janet) Winter of Fairbury, NE; Terry Winter of Parker,

Jerry Lee Winter

William “Bill” G. Schultze, age 68, was born on February 1, 1954, to Rex and Rita (Clark) Schultze in Russell, KS. He passed away on August 5, 2022, at the Osborne County Memorial Hospital. Bill was one of the last classes to attend Covert Grade School and then graduated from Osborne High School in 1972. 

After graduation, he attended Goodland VoTech and graduated from the diesel mechanic program with his Associates degree. On September 8, 1973, he was united in marriage to Beth (Mayes) Schultze and to this union five children were born. Amy Elizabeth, Angela Kay, Eric William, Bryan Charles and Tyler Reginald. They raised their family in rural Paradise, KS until 1991 when they moved to the family farm south of Osborne. 

Bill spent his life farming, ranching and attending every event possible of his kids and grandkids and never hesitating to help Beth with any of their many projects. In earlier years he enjoyed team penning with his family and close friends. A favorite memory of his was when he won the Osborne County Ranch Rodeo with his sons. He enjoyed coyote hunting on Sundays throughout the winter months. Bill spent many hours hunting pheasants and elk. 

On his many adventures, he was always looking for Hesston belt buckles to complete his collections to pass onto his children and grandchildren. 

Bill was preceded in death by his grandparents, Reginald and Mildred Schultze and Father in law, Doyle Sackhoff. Bill is survived by his wife, Beth of the home, his parents Rex and Rita Schultze of Osborne, mother in law JoAnn (Arden) Putnam of Downs, KS, sister Connie (Kim) Moore of Osborne. His 5 children, Amy (Brandon) Miller of Phillipsburg, Angie (Jerrad) Goheen of Osborne, Eric (Lindy) Schultze of Osborne, Bryan (Amanda) Schultze of Osborne, Tyler (Chelsea) Schultze of Osborne. Bill has 13 grandkids who he loved endlessly, Austin, Ethan, and Owen Miller, Connor, Nathan, and Lexi Goheen, Reata, Rory and Raleigh Schultze, Reece and Ashlyn Schultze, and Coy and Tru Schultze. He was surrounded and loved by a large extended family. Bill will be greatly missed by his family and friends who loved him very much.

The Earthly life of Kay Suzanne McCarthy ended on Aug 1st, 2022, physically surrounded by 4 of her 5 children.  
She was immediately welcomed to the Kingdom of God by her late son, John
 Stannard, who became a resident just 2 months prior. He had spent his 
days gathering family and preparing a welcome home party for his mom. 
Upon arrival at the Gates of Heaven, which were incredibly pleasing to 
Kay’s visual palette, Kay met her own mother, Marjorie Rice, for the 
first time since she was 3 years old.

Also awaiting Kay’s entrance was 
her dad and the love of her earthly life, Tom Stannard. So many souls 
danced in the Heavens upon her arrival and her accolades for a life well
 lived were acknowledged and appreciated by Jesus Christ, her Savior.  
Kay invested in her life by prioritizing people. The true measure of her
 wealth remains the love she shared for life and her ability to 
exemplify what intention and persistence can reap. She lived with a 
twinkle in her eyes and a quick dance move that synchronized smoothly 
into her stride as she went from two-step to jazz to waltz. She never 
skipped a beat; each season of her life demonstrated her artistic soul. 
 
Kay embraced every stage of her life and used gratitude as a tool to 
overcome life's trials. Seeing the good in every bad situation, 
recognizing that “doing something, even if it's wrong “moved her to the 
next right thing when making decisions...she was a master of creating 
her own joy as she was dealt some challenging hands during her stay on 
earth.  
Kay held many prestigious titles and was recognized on many platforms 
for her paintings and her ability to provide leadership to organizations
 and events for the arts.... but the one she is most noted for and proud
 of is her legacy of love for her children, grandchildren and great 
grandchildren. She fulfilled her heart's desire to leave a story of 
people who came to Jesus. She ultimately handed over the reins to Him 
as He greeted her at the gates and the party ensued.  
There will be a celebration of Kay’s life at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 
14, 2022, at the Wesleyan Church, Colby, KS. A dedication of her ashes 
will take place at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Riverview

Kay Suzanne McCarthy

Charla Rose (Bechard) Moos passed away peacefully on August 5, 2022, at 
her home. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and 
friend. She was the first born to Adeline (Kepka) and Armond Bechard Sr.
 on October 11, 1952. After graduating high school, Charla married the 
love of her life, Dennis Moos at the Immaculate Conception Church in 
Grinnell, KS. Together they had three children: Kimberly, John, and 
Jennifer. 
Charla loved spending time with her family along with cheering on her 
KSU Wildcats. Her five brothers and sister did eventually get her to 
cheer for the Jayhawks during KU Volleyball games, which she loved to 
watch. 
During her battle with Polycystic Kidney Disease, she was able to 
receive two lifesaving kidney transplants which allowed her to make many
 more precious memories with her family. 
Charla was a member of the Altar Society, VFW Auxiliary, and served many
 years as a 4-H Leader. Her hobbies included making crafts and the many 
rosaries she made for others over the years. Charla is especially 
remembered for her kolaches she would make for friends, neighbors and 
the Grinnell Warriors activity and athletic teams. 
Those proceeding her in death are her parents, Adeline and Armond 
Bechard Sr., her brother Don Bechard and her six precious grandbabies. 
Charla will be greatly missed by her husband, Dennis of Grinnell; 
daughters, Kimberly (Steve) Crooker, of Alexandria, VA and Jennifer 
(Jason) Burrows, of Hugoton, KS; son John, of Lawrence, KS; four 
grandchildren, Jayden, Joshua and Jaycee Burrows and Jude Crooker; her 
siblings, Harold (Susan) Bechard, of Salina, sister-in-law Jan Bechard, 
of Gardner, Richard (Pam) Bechard, of Overland Park, Raymond (Pam) 
Bechard, of Lawrence, Armond Jr. (Cindy) Bechard, of Leawood and Mary 
Beth (Jay) Nelson, of Tonganoxie, along with many nieces and nephews.

During her battle with Polycystic Kidney Disease, she was able to 
receive two lifesaving kidney transplants which allowed her to make many
 more precious memories with her family. 
Charla was a member of the Altar Society, VFW Auxiliary, and served many
 years as a 4-H Leader. Her hobbies included making crafts and the many 
rosaries she made for others over the years. Charla is especially 
remembered for her kolaches she would make for friends, neighbors and 
the Grinnell Warriors activity and athletic teams. 
Those proceeding her in death are her parents, Adeline and Armond 
Bechard Sr., her brother Don Bechard and her six precious grandbabies. 
Charla will be greatly missed by her husband, Dennis of Grinnell; 
daughters, Kimberly (Steve) Crooker, of Alexandria, VA and Jennifer 
(Jason) Burrows, of Hugoton, KS; son John, of Lawrence, KS; four 
grandchildren, Jayden, Joshua and Jaycee Burrows and Jude Crooker; her 
siblings, Harold (Susan) Bechard, of Salina, sister-in-law Jan Bechard, 
of Gardner, Richard (Pam) Bechard, of Overland Park, Raymond (Pam) 
Bechard, of Lawrence, Armond Jr. (Cindy) Bechard, of Leawood and Mary 
Beth (Jay) Nelson, of Tonganoxie, along with many nieces and nephews. 
Visitation is from 5-7:00 p.m., with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, 
August 10, 2022, at the Immaculate Conception Parish Hall, Grinnell, KS.
 The Funeral Mass is at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 11, 2022, at the 
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Grinnell, with burial in the 
church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception 
Church or the Quinter Ambulance Service and sent in care of Baalmann
