Betty Joan Grafel, age 89, formerly of Culbertson, NE passed away on 
Sunday, January 21, 2023 at Ashford Assisted living memory care of 
Draper, Utah.

Betty was born February 15, 1933&nbsp; in Norton, KS to 
parents August Joseph and Barbara Mary (Rohr) Rome. She was a twin and 
quite the surprise to her Mother and the Doctor, as they didn’t know she
 was expecting twins. Betty and her twin sister Jean were so tiny that 
they fit into a handkerchief. She was 1 out of 9 children. She was very 
active in HS in Seldon, KS where she played volleyball, basketball and 
was a cheerleader and loved going to dances. She also helped care for 
her younger siblings and worked with her parents at the Rome Grocery 
Store (that her parents owned.) After high school Betty spent the summer
 in Chicago with her Aunt and Uncle and enjoyed getting city life 
experience &amp; really enjoyed being treated to hot fudge sundaes. She
 then moved back to McCook to share an apartment with her friends Joy 
and Juanita and treasured those fun memories they made as roommates.&nbsp; 
Betty worked at the movie theater and then McCook Equity as a 
bookkeeper. Betty met the love of her life, Wayne Harold Grafel, and 
they were married February 21, 1955, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in
 McCook. Wayne and Betty purchased a home and farmland South of 
Culberston in 1955 and were blessed with five children.&nbsp;

Betty was
 an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church where she served as a
 Sunday School teacher &amp; was on the Women’s Altar Society, she 
volunteered with the carnivals and helped clean the church and prepare 
funeral dinners. In addition to being a farm owner/wife, Mother, 
gardener, chef and seamstress Betty worked at McCook National Bank as a 
teller and clerk for several years &amp; enjoyed her colleagues &amp; 
her regular customers in the community. Betty’s favorite role was being a
 Mother, her children were her pride and joy and she was also known and 
loved as a 2nd mom to many of her children’s friends &amp; her younger 
brothers, nephews and nieces who would come spend the summers working on
 the farm or visiting. Betty enjoyed spending time as a 4-H Leader and 
Girl Scout Leader, she even volunteered and was a trip sponsor to NYC 
and DC with the 4H kids when she was expecting Michelle and climbed 
those stairs faster than any of the kids.&nbsp; Betty will be remembered for 
the wonderful meals she made for her family &amp; friends and her 
special gift of cooking, especially her famous cinnamon rolls and runzas
 she shared and fried chicken at harvest time.&nbsp; She enjoyed sewing, 
gardening, her pets &amp; granddogs and together with Wayne, playing 
cards and dancing.&nbsp; The couple was known for their fast-paced jitterbug 
and impressive square dancing.&nbsp; The family shares many fond memories of 
traveling to the Rome family cabin, trips and cruises with lifelong 
friends, Jack and Evelyn Hook, many lake boating and picnic days and 
vacations to Hawaii, Yellowstone and Disney World.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Betty was 
very community oriented and throughout the years, was involved in 
numerous organizations to include the The Red Hats, the Culbertson 
Extension Club, Pinochle Card Club, Square Dancing and loved to be 
involved at school with the other moms attending band events &amp; games
 together.&nbsp; She enjoyed going to Bear Cave, Perk &amp; McCook bakery for
 a cup of coffee with friends and also celebrated monthly birthdays too.
 She also loved staying active by participating in the FROG Exercise 
Class in Culbertson and loved getting together with the neighbors for 
the annual July 4th firework show.

Betty was young at heart and 
absolutely loved living life to the fullest, her Grandchildren and 
Great-Grandchildren meant the world to her. Her grandchildren loved 
spending weeks at the farm during the summer where they had tea parties,
 played dress up, went to the county fairs, rode the 4 wheelers, 
explored and hiked together, helped with the farm animals, fed the ducks
 at the park,&nbsp; played lots of&nbsp; games including aggravation and learned 
to bake and sew. They also thought Grandma was the coolest Grandma when 
they discovered her love for rides at the fairs, she even rode roller 
coasters into her early 80s and was loving life.

After Wayne 
passed, Betty enjoyed spending time visiting and traveling to her 
children and grandchildren, and especially enjoyed&nbsp; living with her 
daughter Carol, in North Platte, who was her primary caregiver for her 
last several years. They had a lot of fun together &amp; Carol helped 
her through some of her biggest health trials battling her dementia. 
Betty spent the last 7 months of her life living in Utah near Michelle 
&amp; family and was surrounded with the love of God &amp; her family 
when she passed.&nbsp;

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; 
husband Wayne Grafel in 2014; twin sister, Jean Rife; sister, Dorothy 
(Edgar) Trommeter; brothers, Eugene Rome, Donnie (Geraldine) Rome, Jerry
 Rome and Leo Rome; and a sister in law, Linda Rome and Wayne’s 
immediate family.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Those left to celebrate her life include her 
children, Cynthia (Chris) Cummins of Parker, CO, Catherine (Greg) 
Anderson of Westminster, CO, Carol Grafel of Granbury,TX and partner Joe
 Infante, Wayne (Leticia) Grafel of Culbertson and Michelle (Brian) 
Martin of Draper, UT; brothers, Greg Rome of Golden, CO and William 
(Judy) Rome of Arvada, CO; sisters in law, Jeanine Rome of Grand 
Junction, CO and Virginia Rome of Arvada, CO; Grandchildren Courtney 
(Roy) Blanco, Cody Cummins(Liz) Denelle Bell, John (Katie) Moriarty, 
Halsey Fuller, Elizabeth(Joey) Hall, Sam Grafel, Alicia Watkins, Hannah 
Grafel, Mariah Martin, Bailey Martin and Lily Martin; Great 
Grandchildren, Breanne, Roy, Eden, Jake, Jaycee, Courtney, Tegan, Dutch,
 Caroline, Julian, Bradley, Raiden, Zeppelin, Helios and Hugo; as well as
 numerous nephews, nieces and extended family members and dear friends.

&nbsp;Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 409 East F St, McCook, NE 69001. Visitation
 will be held 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. followed by recitation of the Rosary at 
6pm on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, 
McCook. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30am on Monday, February 6,
 2023, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, McCook, with Father Bernard 
Kimminau as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, McCook.

Victoria “Vickie” Louise Herl, 75, passed away February 2, 2023, at 
Locust Grove Village in La Crosse. She was born June 10, 1947, at Great 
Bend, to Victorinus “Vic” &amp; Mabel (Leeper) Herl.

Vickie was a graduate of Great Bend High School and received her 
degree from Salt City Business College in Hutchinson, where she worked 
as a legal secretary for several years. When Vickie returned to Great 
Bend, she worked as the administrative assistant of the Great Bend Public
 Library and Central Kansas Library System for 45 years, until she 
retired in 2017. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose 
of Lima Catholic Church, Altar Society and the Great Bend Saddle Club.

Vickie loved music, singing and playing the piano, and was a 
voracious reader of everything from autobiographies to science fiction, 
with a particular fondness for a good mystery. She was a private person 
with a kind and gentle soul. She was generous to a fault and a loyal 
friend. She loved all of God’s creatures but dogs and horses the best.

Survivors include, her daughter, Kellie Werner of Hays; three 
brothers, Vic "Joe" Herl, Jr. and wife Rena and James "Jim" Herl, all of
 Great Bend and Jerry Herl of North Dakota; two sisters, Valerie Hartle 
and husband Alan of Florida and Vanessa McCormick and husband Mike of 
Ohio; two grandchildren, Blaine Werner and Tryston Burgess; and a great 
grandson, Cash Werner. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a 
brother, John Herl.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 
8, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Altar Society rosary at 4:00 p.m. 
and Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 
10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 9, 2023, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic 
Church, with Father Aneesh Parappanattu presiding. Interment will be in 
Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend.

Anna Lorene Mollenkamp, 90, passed away on Jan. 31, 2023, at the Ness County Hospital in Ness City.&nbsp; She was born on Jan. 30, 1933, in LaCrosse, the daughter of Conrad and Katherine (Kraft) Bauer.

Anna was a homemaker. She was a member of the Arnold United Methodist Church, Ransom VFW Auxiliary, and officer in charge of the Arnold Post Office. She loved all types of needlework, especially knitting. She married Eugene Mollenkamp on May 16, 1954. He died on Aug. 18, 2007.

Survivors include son, Jim Mollenkamp of Arnold; daughter, Melody Wendland of Topeka; sister, Verda Ochs of Arnold; and two grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene Mollenkamp; seven brothers, and a sister.

Cremation has taken place and a service will be at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be given to the United Methodist Church of Arnold.

Alejandro A. Sarabillo, 74, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born Sept. 21, 1948, in Davao Del Sur, Philippines to Paterno Sarabillo and Sofronia Almorado. Alejandro was born and raised in the Philippines. After graduating high school in 1964, he attended Holy Cross College where he graduated with his bachelor’s degree in 1968. He began working at the Philippine Port Authority where he worked for 36 years. Alejandro retired in 2014 and spent most of his free time on the family farm. He enjoyed cooking, watching comedy shows and especially being with his grandchildren. He is survived by his children Mitchelle and Fritz Perez of Garden City, Alec Ruel and Mia Sarabillo of Davao Del Sur, Philippines, and five grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Myrna C. Sarabillo; daughter Amy Faye; and granddaughter Dinah Yu. There will be no service at this time. Delbert L. 
“Red” Ellner, 89 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, formerly of Funk, 
Nebraska, died on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at the Phelps Memorial 
Health Center in Holdrege.&nbsp; Delbert was born on June 11, 1933, near 
Lebanon, Kansas, the youngest of two sons, to Lewis and Frances (Finch) 
Ellner.&nbsp; Red received his primary education from a country school in 
Smith County, Kansas, and then graduated from Lebanon High School in 
Lebanon, Kansas, with the class of 1952.&nbsp; Following his education, he 
began working in a hardware store and a bar in Lebanon.&nbsp;

On July 
17, 1953, Red was inducted into the United States Army and served in 
Germany during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on May 27, 
1955 and began working for Burlington Northern Railroad.&nbsp; He joined the 
crew as a means of traveling West where he intended to settle, yet he 
continued to work as a lineman for 40 years.

He met 
his future bride on a blind date on New Year’s Eve 1959.&nbsp; On October 21,
 1961, Red was united in marriage to Marilyn Schoening at the St. John 
Lutheran Church in Mineola, Iowa.&nbsp; The couple made their home in Aurora,
 Illinois, where their son Patrick was born.&nbsp; Red continued to work for 
the railroad in the Communications Department.&nbsp; In 1965, they moved to 
Holdrege.&nbsp; In 1967, Red oversaw the relocation of a house to Funk and 
renovated it himself.&nbsp; Their daughter Julie was born later that year. 
&nbsp;They then built a home next door where they resided for the next 50 
years.&nbsp; During their time in Funk, he served as the mayor and served on 
the town council and also served on the school board.&nbsp; Red and Marilyn 
moved to Holdrege in 2010 and Red then began to make his home at 
Holdrege Memorial Homes in 2017.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Red 
enjoyed collecting antiques, repairing antique toys, attending auctions,
 gardening, wintering in Arizona, reading Westerns, camping and fishing 
at Harlan County Lake, and enjoying a cup of coffee at the Coffee Cup 
Café in Funk.&nbsp; He was a member of the Fridhem Lutheran Church in Funk.

Red was 
preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law; 
his son, Patrick in 2016; and his brother, Dean in 2019.&nbsp;

Red is 
survived by his wife Marilyn Ellner of Holdrege; daughter, Julie Ellner 
of San Diego, California; and sister-in-law, Jennie Ellner of Hays, 
Kansas; and several nieces.

Memorials are strongly suggested to Holdrege Memorial Homes, the Nebraska Prairie Museum, or to Donor’s Choice.

Health Center in Holdrege.&nbsp; Delbert was born on June 11, 1933, near 
Lebanon, Kansas, the youngest of two sons, to Lewis and Frances (Finch) 
Ellner.&nbsp; Red received his primary education from a country school in 
Smith County, Kansas, and then graduated from Lebanon High School in 
Lebanon, Kansas, with the class of 1952.&nbsp; Following his education, he 
began working in a hardware store and a bar in Lebanon.&nbsp;On July 
17, 1953, Red was inducted into the United States Army and served in 
Germany during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on May 27, 
1955 and began working for Burlington Northern Railroad.&nbsp; He joined the 
crew as a means of traveling West where he intended to settle, yet he 
continued to work as a lineman for 40 years.He met 
his future bride on a blind date on New Year’s Eve 1959.&nbsp; On October 21,
 1961, Red was united in marriage to Marilyn Schoening at the St. John 
Lutheran Church in Mineola, Iowa.&nbsp; The couple made their home in Aurora,
 Illinois, where their son Patrick was born.&nbsp; Red continued to work for 
the railroad in the Communications Department.&nbsp; In 1965, they moved to 
Holdrege.&nbsp; In 1967, Red oversaw the relocation of a house to Funk and 
renovated it himself.&nbsp; Their daughter Julie was born later that year. 
&nbsp;They then built a home next door where they resided for the next 50 
years.&nbsp; During their time in Funk, he served as the mayor and served on 
the town council and also served on the school board.&nbsp; Red and Marilyn 
moved to Holdrege in 2010 and Red then began to make his home at 
Holdrege Memorial Homes in 2017.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;Red 
enjoyed collecting antiques, repairing antique toys, attending auctions,
 gardening, wintering in Arizona, reading Westerns, camping and fishing 
at Harlan County Lake, and enjoying a cup of coffee at the Coffee Cup 
Café in Funk.&nbsp; He was a member of the Fridhem Lutheran Church in Funk.Red was 
preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law; 
his son, Patrick in 2016; and his brother, Dean in 2019.&nbsp;Red is 
survived by his wife Marilyn Ellner of Holdrege; daughter, Julie Ellner 
of San Diego, California; and sister-in-law, Jennie Ellner of Hays,

Paul Arthur Lueschen, 81, of Norton, KS passed away on January 28, 2023, in his home.

Paul was born in Otis, Colorado, on March 13, 1941, to Martha 
(Eikenburg) Lueschen and Arthur Lueschen.&nbsp; Arthur was a District 
Magistrate Judge for Cheyenne County for 20 years while Paul grew up in 
St. Francis.&nbsp; Paul Graduated from St. Francis High School where he met 
and married his first wife, Dorothy (Keller) Lueschen.&nbsp; He lived in 
Goodland, KS for one year while he worked at the police department.&nbsp;

Paul moved his family to Norton, KS in 1966 when he started working 
as an insurance investigator for Equifax for the next 21 years.&nbsp; While 
working for Equifax, District Magistrate Judge Ryan approached Paul 
asking him if he would be the Norton Municipal Judge.&nbsp; Paul laughed it 
off thinking it was a joke.&nbsp; When Judge Ryan approached him a second 
time, he accepted the position.&nbsp; Paul was also the Municipal Judge for 
Logan and Oberlin.&nbsp; He was a judge for approximately 42 years.&nbsp; Paul 
married Jeneen (Dole) Lueschen January 24, 1992.&nbsp; They enjoyed each 
other for 31 years.

Paul enjoyed coaching kids’ ball, riding motorcycles, water skiing, 
spending hours with the guys playing pitch and other card games, 
golfing, bowling at Rainbow Lanes on league, helped with Boy Scouts, 
Jaycee Club, working in the yard, and creating many wood crafts 
including the nativity scenes still displayed at the Church of God, 
Norton Christian Church, and the Andbe Home.&nbsp; Paul didn’t know a 
stranger.&nbsp; Most of them would tell you about his sense of humor.&nbsp; He was
 known for telling jokes and playing pranks on many people.&nbsp;

Paul is survived by his wife, Jeneen, his two children Julie 
(Patrick) Douglas and Lisa (Donnie) Edgerton, two step-children Chastity
 (Kent) Ingram and Nicholas (Shannon) Harman, eight grandchildren Kyle 
(Shannon) Douglas, Kayla (Tyler) Rutherford, Kurt Douglas, Dianna 
Douglas, Natasha (Kyle) Carman, David (Katrina) Edgerton, Ashley 
Edgerton, and Allen Harman, 13 great grandchildren, and many fur babies 
he loved dearly.&nbsp;

Paul’s family will host a funeral service on Friday, February 3rd,
 2023, at 11:00 am.&nbsp; The service will be at the Church of God in Norton, 
KS with Darel Boston &amp; Gunner Hays officiating. &nbsp;In lieu of flowers,
 a Memorial for Hospice Services has been established. &nbsp;The family 
appreciates the amazing care they provided them and Paul.

LaDonna Joy Gano

Wendel Leon Folkerts was born on September 16, 1939, in a rural Timken, KS farm home to Arnold Folkerts and Wilhelmina Margareta “Minnie” (Suchy) Folkerts.&nbsp; He passed from life to eternal life peacefully at age 83 on February 1, 2023.

Wendel attended a one-room grade school in District 41 of Rush County and graduated from La Crosse Rural High School in 1957.&nbsp; He managed Stevenson’s Clothing Store in Hill City, KS until 1961 when he went back to school and then graduated from Fort Hays State University with a BA Mathematics Degree in 1965.

After graduation, Wendel spent 10 years in the life insurance business where he was President of Central Kansas Life Underwriters for one year.

He met Anna Marie Toothaker in Great Bend, KS, where they both worked, and they married on August 5, 1967, at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Ft. Collins, CO.&nbsp; Wendel and Anna raised five children: Bret and Chad from a previous marriage, Oliver, an adopted son from Canada, and two daughters, Jeni and Jill.&nbsp; His desire was to raise his combined family on a farm, so, he and Anna plus five farmed until 1984.&nbsp; Wendel also served on the USD 395 School Board in La Crosse, KS.

Wendel was baptized at Peace Lutheran Church, Albert, KS as an infant, taught Sunday School classes, sang for weddings, and was active on various church boards.&nbsp; He served as Chairman of the Kansas Lutheran Hour in the '70s, and was President of the Great Bend Chapter of Full Gospel Businessmen in the '80s.

He went to work for NCRA in 1984 in the Great Bend, KS office, was later transferred to the Denver office and then finished his NCRA career in McPherson.&nbsp; In McPherson, he was active in the McPherson United Way campaigns, and acted as Chairman of All School Day in 2006.

He is survived by his wife, Anna of McPherson, KS; three sons and two daughters, Bret of Hays, KS, Chad (Lori) of Rush Center, KS, Oliver of Canada, Jeni (Terry) Hanken and Jill (Mark) Reifschneider of McPherson, KS; one brother and two sisters, Gerald (Charlotte) of Sacramento, CA, Marlene (Mak) Brack of Great Bend, KS and Karen (Michael) Cannon of Plano, TX; 8 grandchildren, James (Sara) Folkerts of Mission, KS, Jenna (Chris) Reynolds of Raleigh, NC, Katlyn (Avery) Roe of Logan, UT, Jack (Tyna) Reifschneider of Inman, KS, and Bo Reifschneider of Phoenix, AZ, Cole, Trey, and Drew (Kariana) Hanken, all of McPherson, KS; and six great-grandchildren, Everett, Isabella, and William of Mission, KS, Oliver and Owen of Raleigh, NC, and Elsie Reifschneider of Inman, KS; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Minnie Folkerts, and one brother, Arnold Folkerts.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 6, 2023, at New Hope Evangelical Church, McPherson, KS with Pastor George Bocox officiating.&nbsp; A private burial will be at Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Albert, KS at a later date.

Wendel Leon Folkerts

A new star appeared in the sky on Jan. 24, 2023, when Clinton Wayne 
Pitts passed away at his home in West Hollywood, California. He was 34 
years old.

Clint (Wayne to his family and friends in Kansas) was 
born to Clinton and Anita (McCollum) Pitts in Great Bend, on Jan. 7, 
1989. He grew up in and around Claflin. In 2009, Clint moved to Southern
 California, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design 
from the Laguna College of Art + Design. Over the course of his design 
career, Clint shared his talent and creativity with a number of leading 
firms and companies, most recently Vanguard.

On Sept. 5, 2015, 
Clint married Adam Brauner at the historic Sentinel Hotel in Portland, 
Ore. They spent several years living in the Pacific Northwest before 
returning to Southern California in 2019.

Clint had a magnetic and
 electrifying personality. He brought light into every room he entered 
and made everyone he met feel like the most special person in the world.
 He was passionate about music; a few of his favorite artists included 
Dolly Parton, Tegan &amp; Sara, and Robyn. He loved RuPaul’s Drag Race, 
The Golden Girls, movies, facials, board games, Halloween, and travel. 
He exuded adventure, style, and curiosity. His sparkle and warmth will 
continue to be felt by the people he touched for years to come.

Clint’s
 memory will be cherished by many, many people, including his husband 
Adam and his siblings Loretta (Pitts) Franz and her husband Doug, 
Crystal (Pitts) Gardiner and her husband Ryan, Robert James “RJ” Kelly, 
Loren (Pitts) Meyer and his husband Andreas, Stormy Pitts, and Triston 
Pitts and his wife Colette. He will also be remembered with deep 
affection by his chosen and extended families.

A private 
celebration of life will be held on Feb. 11, 2023, in Hutchinson,

Clinton Pitts

Karlynn K. Beck, 63, died unexpectedly on February 1, 2023. &nbsp;She was 
born June 16, 1959, in Great Bend, Kansas, the daughter of Dale and 
Arlene (Hoffman) Strube.&nbsp; At a young age Karlynn lost her father to 
cancer and her mother remarried Robert Strube, who raised her and her 
siblings.&nbsp; Karlynn graduated from Claflin High School in 1977.&nbsp;

Karlynn began her career as a bookkeeper and secretary for DS&amp;W 
Well Servicing.&nbsp; She married Fred Beck on September 28, 1981.&nbsp; Together 
they raised three children in their hometown of Claflin.&nbsp; Karlynn also 
spent time working for Millers of Claflin.&nbsp; In 1997, her and Fred 
started their own business, Classic Well Service, which they 
successfully ran together for 24 years.&nbsp;

She was a longtime member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic 
Church, where she was active in the Altar Society and as a Eucharist 
Minister.&nbsp; Karlynn had a giving heart, she loved spoiling her kids and 
especially her grandkids and was present at all their events.&nbsp; Her home 
was always welcoming with its sights and scents, and you were usually 
gifted with something when you left. She loved celebrating every 
holiday, whether it was decorating her home, cooking, or hosting friends
 and family.&nbsp; Later in life, she enjoyed her girls group outings to 
celebrate birthdays and special occasions.&nbsp; A natural green thumb, 
plants and flowers thrived in her care.&nbsp; But her legacy was definitely 
her family which she loved greatly.

Survivors include; her loving husband of 41 years, Fred Beck; three 
children, Elisha Engelbrecht and husband Josh of McPherson, Evin Beck 
and wife Kayla of Auburn, Alabama, and Erin Beck and wife Cindy of Great
 Bend; ten grandchildren, Loghan, Vivian, and Lincoln Engelbrecht, 
Maddox, Elsa and Emmy Beck, and Luke, Lawson, Laney, and Lexi Beck; her 
mother, Arlene Strube of Olathe; five siblings, Kim Connell and husband 
Mark of Claflin, Kevin Strube and wife Cindy of Hays, Kent Strube and 
wife Shelly of Garden City, Kurt Strube and wife Patty of Olathe, and 
Kelli Webb and husband Gregg of Independence, Missouri; brothers-in-law,
 Jerry Beck and wife Christa, and Art Beck and wife Leah; sister-in-law,
 Bonnie Buehler and husband Jere; 10 nieces, 16 nephews, and 55 great 
nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her fathers, Dale Strube and Robert Strube and her cherished grandmother, Mary Hoffman.

Family will greet friends from 3 to 4 p.m., Sunday at the church with
 Vigil and Rosary to begin at 4 p.m.&nbsp; Friends may sign the book 9 to 5 
p.m. Friday and 8 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Monday, February 6, 2023, 
at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Terrance 
Klein.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Pleasant View, Claflin Cemetery.&nbsp;

Minister.&nbsp; Karlynn had a giving heart, she loved spoiling her kids and 
especially her grandkids and was present at all their events.&nbsp; Her home 
was always welcoming with its sights and scents, and you were usually 
gifted with something when you left. She loved celebrating every 
holiday, whether it was decorating her home, cooking, or hosting friends
 and family.&nbsp; Later in life, she enjoyed her girls group outings to 
celebrate birthdays and special occasions.&nbsp; A natural green thumb, 
plants and flowers thrived in her care.&nbsp; But her legacy was definitely 
her family which she loved greatly.Survivors include; her loving husband of 41 years, Fred Beck; three 
children, Elisha Engelbrecht and husband Josh of McPherson, Evin Beck 
and wife Kayla of Auburn, Alabama, and Erin Beck and wife Cindy of Great
 Bend; ten grandchildren, Loghan, Vivian, and Lincoln Engelbrecht, 
Maddox, Elsa and Emmy Beck, and Luke, Lawson, Laney, and Lexi Beck; her

Mark of Claflin, Kevin Strube and wife Cindy of Hays, Kent Strube and

Kelli Webb and husband Gregg of Independence, Missouri; brothers-in-law,
 Jerry Beck and wife Christa, and Art Beck and wife Leah; sister-in-law,

Mary Ann Befort, 90 years old, passed away on January 31, 2023 in La Crosse, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born October 7, 1932, in Hays, Kansas, to Leo and Emma Gabel. She married Earl Befort on November 10, 1955.

Mary Ann worked as a school cook for USD 489 in Hays, as well as a secretary for Ralph Hunter, and a bookkeeper for Munjor water district.&nbsp; She was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Munjor.&nbsp; She enjoyed sewing, spending time with her grandchildren and hosting special holiday meals.

She is survived by two sons, Jake Befort and his wife Mitzi of Bison, KS and Lyle Befort and his wife Linda of Sublette, KS; six grandchildren, Amy Davidson and her husband Michael, Ryan Befort and his wife Sarah, Morgan Befort, Dusti Befort, Kali Befort, Dawn Befort as well as six great-grandchildren; brothers Melvin Gabel, Salina, KS; Robert Gabel, Colorado; and Hilarius Gabel, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers, Gilbert, Herbert, and Vernon Gabel.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM on Monday, February 6, 2023, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Munjor. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorial visitation will be Sunday 5PM - 7PM with a combined vigil and rosary at 7PM all at Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine, Hays, KS 67601.

Virgil Elwood Sneath,&nbsp;89, of&nbsp;Quinter, KS, passed away on&nbsp;January 30, 2023. Virgil&nbsp;was born in&nbsp;Kaneer, KS&nbsp;on&nbsp;November 29, 1933.&nbsp;He&nbsp;graduated from&nbsp;Geneseo&nbsp;High School&nbsp;and continued&nbsp;his education at a vocational school.

Virgil&nbsp;was united in marriage&nbsp;to&nbsp;Joyce Sprick&nbsp;on&nbsp;December 7, 1978; they were married&nbsp;44 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He&nbsp;worked as an electrician&nbsp;for&nbsp;years.&nbsp;He&nbsp;enjoyed&nbsp;fishing, hunting, stockcar races, and football.&nbsp;He&nbsp;was also actively involved in&nbsp;Gove Community Bible Church.

Virgil&nbsp;is survived by&nbsp;his wife, Joyce, of Quinter;&nbsp;children,&nbsp;Sherry, Gene, Justin and their spouses and children;&nbsp;siblings, Earl, Gerald, Laura, Carolee, Ed, Cheryl, Don, Judy, and&nbsp;many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and&nbsp;friends.

Michael A. Todd, age 70, peacefully 
passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at his home in Scott City, 
Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on October 14, 1952, in Akron, Colorado, the son of 
Harold and Mary Dickinson Todd.&nbsp; Mike grew up in Leoti, Kansas, and moved
 to Scott City, Kansas, in 1993 where he worked for the City of Scott 
City for 19 years before retiring.

He was a member of the Spuds Coffee Group and was an avid hunter.

On April 16, 1985, he married Kay Simons in Tribune, Kansas.&nbsp; She survives.

Survivors include his Wife - Kay Todd of Scott City, Kansas, Three 
Children - Ryan &amp; Shannon Todd of Gainesville, Florida, Chastel 
&amp; Eric Vallerand of Gainesville, Florida, Jeffrey &amp; Rachel

Plainville Kansas, graduated from his earthly body at St. Frances 
Medical Center in Topeka surrounded by his family. Jack was born in 1948
 the son of Ronald and Luella “Bebe” Burton.

He 
graduated from Plainville High School in 1966 and attended Kansas State 
University where he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. Jack
 enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the fast attack Submarine 
USS Snook. He was Past Master of the Paradise Masonic Lodge #290, served
 on the USD 270 School Board, longtime member the Plainville Fire 
Department and the Plainville Rescue Squad. He was a member of the VFW, 
Kansas Farm Bureau, United Methodist Church, and Senior Corps.

Jack
 worked for Phillips 66 and the Kansas Department of Corrections. He 
farmed in Rooks and Ellis County. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed
 serving as a host Hunt Master for friends from many states, his 
gregarious nature, bullet proof spirit and amazing stories entertained 
all those whom he encountered and insured that anyone who met him was 
never a stranger more than once.

Jack is preceded in 
death by his daughter Amber, father Ronald, mother Bebe, and brothers 
Mike and Ronnie. He is survived by his brother Pat of Crowley, TX; 
sister Susan of Covington, LA; son Noah Burton, wife Jenn and 
grandchildren Addison Grace Henshaw and Ranger Michael Burton of Justin,
 TX; daughter Heidi Kelly, husband Caleb and grandchildren Makayla, 
Sullivan, and Prosper Jack Kelly of Round Rock, TX; grandson Hunter

Goodland, KS resident Delain&nbsp;Jack Roberts, 67, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023, at the Goodland Regional Medical Center in Goodland.

Jack was born on February 4, 1955, in Atwood, Kansas, to Jack&nbsp;Delain&nbsp;and Glenda J. Roberts. &nbsp;He grew up and stayed with his grandparents in Oberlin, KS for many years.

In the 1990s, Jack and his brother David moved to Goodland. &nbsp;They quickly became a part of the community and developed many friends in Goodland. &nbsp;Jack loved to attend movies at the theater and the car races at the fairgrounds. &nbsp;He liked to joke and tease other people at any opportunity.

Jack joined the Goodland Catholic Church in 2002. &nbsp;He became a very active member in the Church and the Knights of Columbus. &nbsp;Jack usually was one of the first people to volunteer at any function. &nbsp;He loved playing Bingo, and helping his fellow Knights with setup and cleanup on Bingo nights. &nbsp;Jack enjoyed collecting the tickets for the Tilt&nbsp;A&nbsp;Whirl during fair time. &nbsp;

Jack had a passion to paint and would give his paintings away to his friends. &nbsp;He was proud to enter his artwork at the fair and was thrilled to receive a ribbon for his entry. &nbsp;Jack liked to earn extra money by mowing yards in town. &nbsp; Another passion of Jack’s was the Denver Broncos. &nbsp;He was able to attend several Bronco games over the years. &nbsp;He would always call several people before and after a game, and he was very excited when the Bronco’s won a Super Bowl.

Preceding him in death was his mother Glenda J. Roberts.

He is survived by his father Jack Roberts Sr. and step mother Donna of Longmont, CO, a sister Jennifer and her daughter Anastasia also of Longmont, CO, brothers David Roberts of Goodland, KS, Everett (Jennifer) Roberts of Papillion, NE, and their children Bryce, and Landon John of Longmont, CO; a step brother Roger Gibson and step sister Gigi King, of Longmont, CO, and cousins Tim and Barbara Wolters as well as many other cousins. &nbsp;

We will always remember&nbsp;Delain&nbsp;Big Jack as a very kind and sweet loving gentle man always with a smile on his face.

Kevin Dwight Gwaltney, 45, was received in the arms of the Lord on 
January 29, 2023, at his home in Dodge City.&nbsp; His earthly suffering has 
ceased.

Kevin was born on June 20, 1977, and is a 5th generation 
native of Dodge City.&nbsp; He was the owner and president of Diamond Roofing
 and was an active and well-respected member of his community. &nbsp;As a 
young boy, Kevin was a spectacular athlete in football, track &amp; 
field, and excelled particularly in the game of basketball.&nbsp; He was 
involved with local basketball through his teenage years and was a 
valuable part of his AAU Basketball team through his time in high 
school.&nbsp; After a Jayhawk Conference Championship at Dodge City Community
 College, Kevin went on to play NCAA Division 1 basketball for one 
season at Wichita State University and then two years at Fort Hay State 
University.&nbsp; His claim-to-fame in his playing career was breaking Eric 
Chenowith’s (KU basketball) nose in an exhibition game as a Fort Hays 
State University Tiger; the lone highlight in an otherwise lopsided 
affair.&nbsp; Kevin went on to finish his bachelor’s degree in 
business/finance at Kansas State University.&nbsp; Kevin was recently 
inducted into the DC3 Sports Hall of Fame in 2022, an honor for which he
 was incredibly proud.&nbsp; Kevin was an avid lover of the Jayhawks, 
Wildcats, and Chiefs, and not to mention country music.&nbsp;

After college, Kevin returned to Dodge City to contribute his 
knowledge and experience to his family’s roofing business.&nbsp; It was here 
that he met Jordan and the two started their journey together in life.&nbsp; 
After a brief respite in St. Louis, Missouri, Kevin and Jordan returned 
to Dodge City to run the family business since his mom and dad moved to 
Manhattan in an effort to more broadly serve the Kansas roofing 
construction market.&nbsp; Kevin’s father Rick passed away unexpectedly in 
2011 at which point Kevin took the reins of the business and has 
continued its success to this very day.&nbsp; In addition to the time and 
attention he devoted to his family and his business, for the past 16 
years Kevin continually served in leadership roles in the Midwest 
Roofing Contractors Association, where he was ultimately elevated to the
 association’s President.&nbsp; Most recently, Kevin has served on the Board 
of Directors of the National Roofing Contractors Association, all the 
while continuing to serve the roofing industry through the MRCA in 
various positions.&nbsp;

More significant than his dedication to his work and community, was 
his love and devotion for his wife and daughters. &nbsp;Each of them will be 
forever blessed with lasting memories of his kindness, strong work 
ethic, sense of humor, and dedication to family.&nbsp; Madison will always 
remember their wild rides on the golf cart (rarely actually on a golf 
course).&nbsp; Alyssa will cherish the day her dad gifted their family with a
 new piano, her fingers gracing the keys with the music of a true 
artist.&nbsp; And Raegan, the sweetness of her daddy’s lap, while they laid 
the day to rest while reading or watching a movie.&nbsp; For Jordan, the loss
 will burn forever, but her passion for life, for her children, and for 
their family’s future will live on with Kevin’s influence.&nbsp;

Kevin was a generous contributor to his church community, to local 
sports, both youth and high school, and the Dodge City Roundup Rodeo.&nbsp; 
Kevin was committed to helping his community grow and flourish and was 
an active member of the Dodge City Chamber of Commerce.&nbsp;

Kevin is reunited in everlasting life with his father, Dwight “Rick” 
L. Gwaltney, III, along with his paternal grandparents, Dwight Gwaltney,
 Jr. and June Gwaltney both of Hutchinson; his maternal grandparents, 
Samuel Caughron and Maxine Nevins Caughron both of Dodge City.&nbsp; Kevin 
leaves behind a loving wife of 19 years, Dr. Jordan Gwaltney of Dodge 
City, and his three beautiful daughters, Madison (16 years), Alyssa (13 
years) and Raegan (8 years).&nbsp; Kevin is also survived by his mother, 
Patricia Gwaltney of Dodge City and his 3 sisters, Laura Gwaltney Mead 
of Dodge City, Monica Cameron and husband Marc of Manhattan, and Andrea 
Platt and husband Ryan of Manhattan, as well as several nieces and 
nephews.&nbsp;

Kevin Dwight Gwaltney

Peggy Elaine Christiansen, 74, passed away on February 1, 2023, at 
Prairie Sunset Home in Pretty Prairie, Kan. She was born on August 6, 
1948, in Great Bend, Kan., to George and Mary Ruby (Cunningham) 
Callaway. On June 19, 1965, she married Larry Christiansen in Ellinwood,
 Kan.

A resident of Hudson since 1966, Peggy worked in social service 
admissions at Woodhaven in Ellinwood and Leisure Homestead in St. John. 
She was a member of Peace United Church, Calvary Baptist, Mt. Pleasant 
Ladies Aid, Great Bend Saddle Club, St. John Parents Tiger Club, and 
Stafford County Extension Council. Peggy was a community leader for 
Jolly Worker 4-H Club of Hudson and South Bend Jolly Worker 4-H Club of 
Great Bend.

Survivors include her husband; daughter, Dawn (Jay) Brack of 
Hutchinson, Kan.; two sons, Curtis (Tami) Christiansen of Wichita, Kan.,
 and George Allen “G.A” (Aimee) Christiansen of Great Bend, Kan.; five 
grandchildren, Jayce, Gage, Jaxon, Bradyn, and Courtney Christiansen; 
and three step-grandchildren, Kodie McFarren, Cooper and Kadie Bailey. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Chandler 
Christiansen; sister, Mary Lee Barry; and half-brother, Allen Callaway.

Visitation will take place from Noon to 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 3,
 2023, with family receiving guests from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at

Annette “Nettie” Norman, age 76, died Saturday, January 28, 2023, at the Azria Health Woodhaven Care Center in Great Bend, Kansas.

She was born October 22, 1946, in Pratt, Kansas. &nbsp;Annette was the&nbsp;fifth&nbsp;of&nbsp;seven&nbsp;children.&nbsp;She lived in various locations before settling in Hays, in her adult years.&nbsp;After 25 years of employment, she retired from Good Samaritan&nbsp;Society of Hays Care Center. &nbsp;

Nettie loved to socialize with family and friends.&nbsp;Her quick wit, humorous stories, and caring nature brightened the lives of those who knew her.&nbsp;She was truly one of a kind, with her own unique slang and a big playful smile.&nbsp;Perhaps she said it best at her retirement party when she commented, "I'm just so ornery."

She is survived by&nbsp;her&nbsp;brother,&nbsp;Bob Bandy and wife,&nbsp;Fran,&nbsp;&nbsp;Aurora, CO; her&nbsp;friend Ray Morris,&nbsp;Russell, KS, her DSNWK family, and countless others in the community whose lives she touched.&nbsp;

Annette 'Nettie' Norman

Hanna Elizabeth (Casad) Townley was born June 24, 1982, in Hays, KS. 
She passed away at the age of 40 on Friday, January 27, 2023, in Lincoln 
KS. 

She was the daughter of Cheryl (Iwanski) Casad and Andrew Casad. 

Hanna
 was a graduate of Stockton High School, Stockton KS, class of 2001 and 
furthered her education at Fort Hays State University where she received
 an associate’s degree in office technology. 

Hanna met Chad 
Townley her sophomore year in college, 2002, and they were married March
 18, 2007, at the Monte Carlo Resort in Las Vegas, NV. Hanna and Chad 
have a son, Hunter, who was born on October 18, 2010. Hunter was always 
the apple of her eye. 

She was a resident of Lincoln, where she worked at Lincoln County Courthouse and most recently at the Bank of Tescott.

Hanna
 was a beautiful soul always wearing a smile, quiet but bubbly and spoke
 the sweetest words. She enjoyed watching her son, Hunter, grow up and 
in all of his activities, spending time at the race track, hunting and 
fishing with Chad and Hunter and anyone else they could bring along. 
They were a family that loved just being together. She had a love for 
Boston Terriers and Sadie was her pride and joy, here’s to one last 
“Sadie Come.” 

Hanna was the best mom, wife and friend. She was 
loved by everyone and loved everyone she came in contact with. She 
always wanted everyone to be happy. Always prepared with snacks and 
drinks so no one would go hungry or thirsty. Bottled water was the drink
 of choice. She was always prepared for everything and volunteered to 
clean and even steam clean the carpets. She enjoyed being outside, 
mowing the lawn, taking care of her flowers and had a love-hate 
relationship with her community garden. Hanna loved teasing all she 
loved from her “sch-weetie pie’s” and joking about the gorilla tape 
keeping a shoe together. She always had a one-liner or zinger to keep 
you on your toes.

Hanna was a mother, a wife, a sister, a 
daughter, a friend and one so many loved and cared for. Her smile and 
thoughtfulness could light up a room. Her beauty and love will shine 
forever.

Hanna was preceded in death by her grandparents Kenton and Bea Casad; grandfather Irwin Iwanski; and father-in-law Kent Townley.

 is survived by her husband Chad and son Hunter of Lincoln; mother 
Cheryl Casad of Olathe, KS; father Andrew Casad of Lincoln, NE; brother

 the sweetest words. She enjoyed watching her son, Hunter, grow up and 
in all of his activities, spending time at the race track, hunting and 
fishing with Chad and Hunter and anyone else they could bring along. 
They were a family that loved just being together. She had a love for 
Boston Terriers and Sadie was her pride and joy, here’s to one last 
“Sadie Come.” Hanna was the best mom, wife and friend. She was 
loved by everyone and loved everyone she came in contact with. She 
always wanted everyone to be happy. Always prepared with snacks and 
drinks so no one would go hungry or thirsty. Bottled water was the drink
 of choice. She was always prepared for everything and volunteered to 
clean and even steam clean the carpets. She enjoyed being outside, 
mowing the lawn, taking care of her flowers and had a love-hate 
relationship with her community garden. Hanna loved teasing all she 
loved from her “sch-weetie pie’s” and joking about the gorilla tape 
keeping a shoe together. She always had a one-liner or zinger to keep 
you on your toes.Hanna was a mother, a wife, a sister, a 
daughter, a friend and one so many loved and cared for. Her smile and 
thoughtfulness could light up a room. Her beauty and love will shine 
forever.Hanna was preceded in death by her grandparents Kenton and Bea Casad; grandfather Irwin Iwanski; and father-in-law Kent Townley.Hanna
 is survived by her husband Chad and son Hunter of Lincoln; mother 
Cheryl Casad of Olathe, KS; father Andrew Casad of Lincoln, NE; brother 
Joseph “Joey” Casad (Melissa) of Olathe; mother-in-law Janese Townley of
 Stockton; sisters-in-law, Sandy Townley of Stockton, Shannon Rappoport 
(Kevin) of Parker, CO; brother-in-law Mike Townley of Woodston, KS; 
grandmother Virginia Iwanski of Stockton; nephews Landon and Jameson 
Casad (Joey) of Olathe, and Logan Cone (Shannon) of Parker, CO; and many
 aunts, uncles and cousins.Public visitation: 1-7 p.m., Friday, 
February 10, 2023, at Hall Chapel, Lincoln, KS. Family will be present

Hanna Elizabeth (Casad) Townley

John&nbsp;Joseph Zimmerman, age 96, died on January 30, 2023,&nbsp;at the Gove County Long Term Care, Quinter, Kansas, where he has resided for the last five years. &nbsp;He was born on August 22, 1926,&nbsp;in rural Gove County the son of Ben and Mary (Wildeman) Zimmerman. &nbsp;

John graduated from Park High School and then served in the United States Army. &nbsp;He was a member of the Grainfield American Legion, Knights of&nbsp;Columbus&nbsp;and the Gove Lions Club.

On May 26, 1952, John was united in marriage with Cecelia Engel at the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Grainfield. John worked for Walt’s Repair (Walt Hein) of Grainfield. &nbsp;John and Cecelia were the owners and operators of J&amp;C Grocery in Gove, Kansas for&nbsp;many&nbsp;years. &nbsp;John also worked over 20 years as the building superintendent for the Gove County Court House in Gove and assisted as a dispatcher for the Gove Count Sheriff’s Departments and as a bailiff. &nbsp;John and Cecelia visited many wonderful places in their camper and were members of the Hackberry Hoppers camping club.

John is survived by five children, Rita (Randall)&nbsp;Hargitt&nbsp;of Quinter, Helen Mary Varner of Wichita, Patty (Lory) Postoak of Wichita, Danny (Carol) Zimmerman of Maryville, Missouri, and Terry (Mary) Zimmerman of&nbsp;Cypress, Texas. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; his siblings, Pauline Younker of&nbsp;Munjor, Angie&nbsp;Hausheer&nbsp;of Bentonville, Arkansas and Ralph and J.D. Zimmerman, both of Oakley and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Cecelia and daughter Kathleen Jacoby. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Leo and Pete, and sisters, Genevieve Stefan and Alberta Walt.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at the St. Agnes Catholic Church on Saturday, February&nbsp;4, 2023, 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow in the Grainfield Cemetery. &nbsp;A rosary and vigil will be held at the St. Agnes Youth Center on Friday, February 3, 2023,&nbsp;beginning at 7:00 P.M. &nbsp;Visitation will begin that evening at 6:00.&nbsp;

Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Agnes Catholic Church, Grainfield.
