
Janis Conine (Sculley) died on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Lane County
Hospital with family and friends by her side. She was born on June 7,
1947, at Grisell Memorial Hospital in Ransom, KS. She was the daughter of
John and Esther Sculley (Knauf). She married Ed Conine on August 6,
1963, at Beeler, KS. They will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary
this year together.
Janis worked as a seamstress for several years when her children were
young. Later on, she worked at Dighton Grade School as a para teacher.
In the spring of 1983 she started working at the First National Bank of
Dighton, where she retired after 30 years of service as head teller.
After retirement, Janis and Ed enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing
with family and friends. They enjoyed riding their Harley’s and went on
several road trips with friends. Janis’s interests and hobbies included
fishing, golfing, bowling, camping, sewing, quilting, woodworking,
baking and bird watching. She enjoyed playing cards with the women’s
group in Dighton, meeting for coffee in the mornings and beverages in
the evenings to visit with friends. In the early 1980s, Janis took an
advanced cake decorating course and after that went on to make many
birthday, wedding and anniversary cakes for family and friends. She
recently took a woodworking class at Garden City Community College and
from that built several of her great-grandkids' wooden babydoll cradles.
It’s almost impossible to know how many quilts she made over the years
that her family will cherish forever.
She is survived by her children, 2 Daughters- Sheila and Roger Scheib of
Liberal, Shari and Mike Lake of Salina and Son- Aaron and Lisa Conine
of Dighton. 1 Brother- Max Sculley & Jeanne of Coppell, TX, 10
Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents as well as many aunts and uncles.
Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday at United Methodist Church
in Dighton with Rev A. G. Turner and Rev Julie King Dye officiating.
Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call from Noon
to 8:00 PM Monday at Boomhower Funeral Home in Dighton.
