Janis Conine (Sculley) died on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Lane County Hospital with family and friends by her side. She was born on June 7, 1947, at Grisell Memorial Hospital in Ransom, KS. She was the daughter of John and Esther Sculley (Knauf). She married Ed Conine on August 6, 1963, at Beeler, KS. They will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary this year together.

Janis worked as a seamstress for several years when her children were young. Later on, she worked at Dighton Grade School as a para teacher. In the spring of 1983 she started working at the First National Bank of Dighton, where she retired after 30 years of service as head teller. After retirement, Janis and Ed enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing with family and friends. They enjoyed riding their Harley’s and went on several road trips with friends. Janis’s interests and hobbies included fishing, golfing, bowling, camping, sewing, quilting, woodworking, baking and bird watching. She enjoyed playing cards with the women’s group in Dighton, meeting for coffee in the mornings and beverages in the evenings to visit with friends. In the early 1980s, Janis took an advanced cake decorating course and after that went on to make many birthday, wedding and anniversary cakes for family and friends. She recently took a woodworking class at Garden City Community College and from that built several of her great-grandkids' wooden babydoll cradles. It’s almost impossible to know how many quilts she made over the years that her family will cherish forever.
