Nancy L. Boyet, Hays, died Monday, June 19, 2023 at HaysMed.

She was born May 12, 1943 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of William P. and Rosetta W. (Zell) Brown.&nbsp; 

On February 5, 1961, she was united in marriage to Winford R. Boyet in Durango, Colorado, and they celebrated 62 years of marriage.&nbsp; For many years they lived in Missouri and Colorado, recently moving to Hays.

Survivors include her husband of the home in Hays, a son, Richard Boyet and wife Melody of Grand Junction, CO, two daughters, Dorella Gillott and husband Phillip of Fountain, CO and Helenna Boyet of Hays, six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, sisters, and a son, William Jason Boyet.

No services are planned, and arrangements are in the care of Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.&nbsp;

Roy Eugene Davis, age 87, of Oakley, formerly of Park and Grainfield, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Logan County Senior Living, Oakley. He was born on July 28,1935 in Goodland to Ray and Florence (Henry) Davis. 

Roy married Caroletta Burse on March 18, 1989 in Burlington, Colorado.

Cremation was chosen. A graveside memorial service will be held at the Brewster Cemetery at a later date.

Donald Lee Kilian, Jr., 67, of Independence, Missouri, moved to heaven on Friday, April 7, 2023.

Donald was known to friends and family as “Don” or “Donnie.”&nbsp; He was born in Russell, Kansas on March 29, 1956.&nbsp; He was the fourth of six children born to Donald Lee and Mary Ann Kilian.

Don graduated from Russell High School in 1974, where he enjoyed band, football and tennis.&nbsp; He attended Salina Vo-Tech in Salina, Kansas, and upon graduation went to work for Ryder for 17 years.&nbsp; He then went on to retire from Cummins after 27 years of service.

Don married Ardys Rader in September of 1979.&nbsp; They had two children, Amanda Sue and Dustin Lee.&nbsp; Following divorce, he chose Carla Cotton to be his special lady and they shared 31 years together up to his passing.

Don loved all sports but was a major fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and the Kansas Jayhawks.&nbsp; Golfing and hunting were several of his favorite past times.&nbsp; Most important to him was quality time spent visiting with friends and family.

Don was an active member of the Independence Moose Fraternity Lodge #2414 from 2008 until his passing.&nbsp; Over the years of his fellowship, he served in many different roles on the Lodge Board of Officers and the Missouri-North Kansas Moose Association Executive Board. He served as Lodge Administrator from 2017–2020.&nbsp; In 2015, he received the Fellowship Degree of Honor.

Don was a loving dad, son, brother, uncle and a very proud recent grandpa of Dax, born in January of 2023 to Amanda and Jared.

Don is survived by companion Carla Cotton of Independence, Missouri; children Amanda Kilian (companion Jared) of Springfield, Missouri and Dustin Kilian (Ambur) of Orrick, Missouri; grandson Dax VanDyne of Springfield, Missouri; Carla’s children Joyce Provost (Scott) of Lee Summit, Missouri and Frank Cotton of Independence, Missouri; Carla’s grandson Bradley Buntin (Kelley) of Liberty, Missouri and Carla’s great-granddaughter Etta; siblings Sheila Verbraken (Michael) of Mesa, Arizona, Sonya Voorhies (Rick) of Show Low, Arizona, Sam Kilian (Cheryl) of Russell, Kansas, and Dwight Kilian (Sandy) of Phoenix, Arizona; and many nieces, nephews, cousins as well as many, many friends.

Don was preceded in death by his mother Mary Kilian; brother “Whitey” Kilian; and father Donald L. Kilian, Sr.&nbsp;

Don is deeply loved by his family and friends and will truly be missed.

Celebration of Don’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, June 25, 2023 at the Moose Lodge in Kansas City, Missouri.&nbsp; Graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, June 26, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell.&nbsp; No visitation being held.&nbsp;

Peggy Ann Rice peacefully departed this life on Sunday, June 18, 2023. She was born January 3, 1934 in Lebanon, Kansas, the daughter of Dean and Roma (Baldwin) Jennings. From childhood she embraced her only sibling, Connie, who remained Peggy's closest, best friend until the end. 

On March 31, 1951, Peggy was united in marriage to Richard Rice at Smith Center, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children, Rick, Ron and Kevin.

Peggy's love for her family was immeasurable. Her primary focus was creating a warm and loving home to raise her sons alongside her husband. She was always generous and selfless. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who loved them all and made sure each one knew how special they were to her.

After serving 21 years in the Air Force, Richard and Peggy returned home to Lebanon, KS. Peggy experiences as a military spouse gave her a lifetime of memories and a great appreciation of the American flag. Peggy enjoyed reading, particularly the local newspapers to keep abreast of current events. She also enjoyed traveling, but the best part of any trip was returning home to Lebanon. Peggy loved Christmas and made the holidays special for her family. She will be sorely missed by all those who loved her, but they will find comfort in knowing that she is now enjoying her heavenly reward after being reunited with her husband.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. 

Left to treasure her memory are her children Rick (Pam) Rice, Esbon, Ks, Ron (Karen Elder) Rice, Hays, Ks, and Kevin (Diana) Rice, Lebanon, Ks, one grandson, Dave Rice, sister Connie (Roger) Sink, sister-in-law Betty Voboril, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.&nbsp;

Those preceding her in death were her husband, Donald M. Moore; her son, Daniel Moore; her parents; and four sisters. Survivors include sons, David Moore, Oakley, Paul Moore (Cindy), San Diego, CA, Donald Moore Jr. (Sandy), Monument, and Stephen Moore (Loretta), Oakley; a daughter, Claudia Coulter (Bob), Wheatridge, CO; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley. Glenita will be laid to rest in the Oakley City Cemetery.

Barbara “Barb” Jean Schindler, of Stockton, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on May 8, 2023, at Hays Medical Center, at the age of 77. She was born on June 26, 1945, to Reuben V. and Neva G. (Hayes) Richardson in Norton, Kansas. 

Barb was married on December 3, 1961, to Kermit Schindler in Phillipsburg, Kansas. They later divorced. To this union were born three children: Neva, Kermit, Jr., and Rena.

Barb grew up in Glade where she attended grade school, and in Phillipsburg where she attended high school. 

She grew up working in restaurants most of her life and then became a CNA in her later years and enjoyed working activities with the residents. She was a member of the Christian Church in Stockton after being baptized in the Calvary Church in Phillipsburg as a child.

Barb enjoyed traveling to see family, trips with her friends, and seeing sights around the United States. She also enjoyed car races, motorcycles, fairs, collecting angels and cardinals, and attending George Strait concerts. She was on a local bowling team and enjoyed evenings at the casino. Barb loved spending quality time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.

Barb is survived by the love of her life, Kermit Schindler, Sr. of Stockton; daughters Neva and Rena, both of Stockton; son Kermit, Jr. of Plainville; siblings Ronald (Wendy) Richardson of Garden City, MO, Marcia (Tom) Louis of Dundalk, MD, Patricia Dodge of Stockton, Roxie Pope of Ellis; stepdaughter, Beverly Schindler Wooley of Dorrance, KS; grandson Athan (Anna Marie) of Bastrop, Texas; grandchildren Nellie (Brandy) Grimes of Stockton, Miranda McCune and Faith Schindler, both of Plainville and Bethany Schindler of Houston, Texas; great-grandchildren Blake, Sam, Ayden, and Harlow; and many extended family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Reuben and Neva Richardson; stepdad Dane Stephenson; mother and father-in-law Ray (Vera) Schindler; daughter-in-law Machelle (Brown) Schindler; son-in-law Mark Wooley; and numerous extended family members.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 26, 2023, at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N. 1st, Stockton, KS 67669. The family will greet friends following the service at the United Methodist Church in Stockton.

On Tuesday, May 30, 2023, Robert Edward Tamney passed away at the age of 84.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Martha Scott Tamney and sister,&nbsp;Judy Tamney Hollifield.

Robert is survived by his wife of 51 years, Merlene (Lene); his children Melody (Marc), Candi,&nbsp;Kelly (Karen) and Robin; his brother Clarke (Vonica); brother-in-law Bobby; many beloved&nbsp;grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and&nbsp;friends.&nbsp;

Robert graduated from Chamberlain High School in Tampa, Florida and William Carey College in&nbsp;Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He also attended the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in&nbsp;New Orleans, Louisiana.

Robert was a Minister of Music, Youth and Senior Adults at various Southern Baptist Churches&nbsp;across the south.

Robert was a 49-year member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Egypt Temple.

Throughout his earthly life, Robert enjoyed being on and in the water, golfing, playing cards and&nbsp;games, watching a variety of sports on TV, but most of all he enjoyed being with family and&nbsp;friends.

Robert requested to be cremated with his ashes scattered over the pond at his residence on the&nbsp;Mirrored K Legacy Ranch, in Jay Em, Wyoming. There will be no service.

In the last three years, Robert was involved in working with Kelly and Karen as they developed a&nbsp;non-profit program dedicated to helping military veterans and first responders work through&nbsp;anxiety, depression and other PTSD symptoms while helping the American Mustang find a&nbsp;quality forever home.

JETMORE – Diana Mae Harms, 76, entered the gates of heaven to be with her wonderful husband, Gordon, on June 17, 2023, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

She was born June 19, 1946 in Flagler, CO, the daughter of Merl and Irene Yoder Wing. 

A longtime area resident, she was a CMA and worked on the EMS. &nbsp;She was an EMT I, training, CPR, and an instructor coordinator for Hodgeman County EMS and surrounding areas. Also, she worked with the Dodge City Community College EMS Program. &nbsp;She was an officer and board member for KEMPTA and SKEMS. 

Her greatest achievement was being a mom, grandma, and mentor to many.

She married Robert Arnold on July 24, 1963. &nbsp;They later divorced.

On September 25, 1999, she married Gordon L. Harms in Dodge City. &nbsp;He passed away June 6, 2019.

Survivors include: her dog, Kitty; four children, Tammy Denison, Jetmore, Todd (Lisa) Arnold, Wellington, CO, Sharon (Larry) Kiehl, Perryton, TX, Billy (Chantelle) Arnold, Hays; her four stepchildren, Michele (Bob) Crabill, Jetmore, Darron Harms (Lisa Wasinger), Hanston, Vaughn (Julie) Harms and Brandon (Trisha) Harms, both of Jetmore; brother Ron (Lori) Wing, Olathe, CO; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Melvin, Bob, Lloyd, Don, Dwight and Ken; two sisters, Ilene and Wanda; Grandson, Andrew Denison; two granddaughters, Alexis Garcia and Heather McKinney and one great-grandson, Joel Miller.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 23, 2023 at United Presbyterian Church, Jetmore, with Rev. Mark Durham presiding. &nbsp;Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore. &nbsp;Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore.

He was born March 22, 1978 in Dodge City, the son of Robert and Louise Ohman Waterhouse. &nbsp;A lifetime area resident, he worked in maintenance at Cargill.

Survivors include his father, Robert “Bob” Waterhouse, Jetmore; two sons, Jason Waterhouse, Jetmore and Caleb Waterhouse, Fort Hood, TX; two brothers, Brett Waterhouse, Jetmore and Scott Waterhouse, Guymon, OK.

Mary Joan Harvey (Schroeder) passed peacefully in Mt. Dora, Fla., on June 7, 2023, at the age of 93.

She was surrounded by family. Harvey was a native Kansan and was a long-time resident of Hays.

She is survived by sons Fred (Sheri – deceased), Mark (Lise), Steve (Karen), Paul (Susan – deceased), and James (Sarita) Harvey; daughters Marilyn Schumacher (Bob), and Barbara Schnose (Mark); and brothers Fulgence (Rita), Gerald Schroeder (Mary Lou), and Dan (Janet). She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Harvey married Thomas Larkin Harvey on June 7, 1952. They were married 57 years.

She was preceded in death by husband Thomas; parents Margaret (Arendt) and Charles Schroeder; brothers John, Anthony Leon (Antonetta Marie-deceased), Charles Martel (Eileen-deceased), and Nicholas Patrick (Judy); and sisters Delores Orten (Duane-deceased), Barbara Mindrup (Patrick (Joe)-deceased), and Rose Winkler (Donald-deceased); and grandson Jake Harvey.

Harvey was an alumna of Girls Catholic High School in Hays, and Saint Mary’s Nursing School in Manhattan, Kan. She worked as a registered nurse in Kansas until retirement and had a great love for her family, friends and her faith.

The funeral will take place at a future date at Arlington National Cemetery.

Glen Alexander Doonan, 76, passed away June 18, 2023, at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita. &nbsp;He was born April 10, 1947, in Parsons, to Willard and Blanche (Schaffer) Doonan. &nbsp;Glen married Dorthy Hart Sept. 6, 1969, in Patuxent River, MD.&nbsp;

Glen, a Hoisington area resident since 1975 coming from Pratt and Great Bend, worked as a machinist for GBI for 26 years, retiring in 2001. &nbsp;During that time, he also owned and operated Glen's Place Bar and Grill. &nbsp;

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington, Knights of Columbus Council #1521 and was a Vietnam veteran of the United Stated Navy, obtaining the rank of E4 Petty Officer 3rd Class in the SeaWolf class. He was a tractor enthusiast and enjoyed fishing and lending a hand to his community of farmers. &nbsp;Above all, he was a man of faith and family.&nbsp;

Survivors include wife, Dorthy Doonan, of the home; two sons, Jeff Doonan of Hoisington, Wade Doonan and wife Sandy of Salina; one daughter, Lynn Andres and husband Merlyn of Solomon; one brother, Roy Doonan of Hutchinson; two sisters, Faye Doonan of Hoisington, and Darlene Stoss of Hoisington; six grandchildren, Jacob Andres and wife Jennifer, Shauna Andres, Alexis Miller and husband Conlan, Austin Doonan, Kacee Doonan and Bryce Doonan; one great-grandson, Benjamin Andres; and his beloved mutt, Hank.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by brother, Willard Ray “Butch” Doonan; and a brother-in-law, Ed Stoss.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 23, 2023, at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Hoisington, with Father Anselm Eke presiding. Nila Mae (Breit) Winder, 82, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2023, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.

The family will celebrate Nila's life at a later date with a memorial service to be held in Hays, Kansas.

Nila was born on July 24, 1940, in Pfeifer, Kansas, to the late Alois and Pauline Breit. Her story is one of love, family, and the joys of being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. For 43 years, she shared a deep and affectionate bond with her husband, Lawrence Eugene Winder, creating a life filled with cherished memories and a strong partnership.

Nila was a faithful member of St. Egbert Catholic Church. She was a devout Catholic woman who held strong to the beliefs that guided her life.

Nila had great satisfaction when working in the yard which was both fulfilling, and the result was rewarding. Whether she was gardening, landscaping, or simply spending time outdoors, it was certainly an enjoyable activity for her.

Collecting knickknacks was a fun hobby that Nila loved. Expressing her individuality, creativity, and appreciation for the things that caught her eye and sparked her curiosity, her collection was incredible along with the joy each trinket brought her.

Though she may no longer be with them in person, Nila's legacy of love will forever be cherished by her family. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters Kimberly Rice and husband George of Newport and Amy Barmann and husband Kyle of St. Joseph, MO; sisters Cora McCartney and husband Jerry of Garden City, KS and Judy Strecker and husband Richard of Wichita, KS; brother Ed Breit and wife Maryann of Hays, KS; grandchildren Phillip Recob, Whitney Smith, Collin Jackson, and Devon Jackson; and great-grandchildren Kaiden Jackson and Waylon Smith.

Vernon Robert “Bob” Waugh, Jr. of Russell, Kansas, died on Friday, June 16, 2023, at the Kansas Soldiers’ Home in Ft. Dodge, Kansas.

Bob was born on May 27, 1953, in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Vernon Robert, Sr. and Mary H. (Glenn) Waugh. He grew up in Dighton, Kansas, and graduated from Dighton High School in the class of 1973. 

After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps. 

He moved to Russell, Kansas, in 1981, and worked at the Russell City Power plant. He worked as a power plant operator for 15 years and worked for the Russell City Police for six years, working over 20 years for the City of Russell. 

He was a longtime member of the Calvary Chapel Assembly of God Church in Russell and a member of the First Congregational Church in Russell. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and American Hunting Club. He was a biology nut researching in his private time and enjoyed working with microscopes. He also enjoyed shooting sports and gardening.

He is survived by one brother, Brian Waugh, Sr. of Garden City, Kansas; and four sisters, Sally Waugh of Dighton, Kansas; Veronica Kennon (Blake Holloway) of Chandler, Texas; Christina Kerls of Topeka, Kansas; and Amanda Darcy (J.R.) of Spearville, Kansas. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews: Jerry, Alex, Brian Jr., William, Trisha, Hunter, Brady, Harley, Adler, Evan, Noah, Harry, Emma Lee, Avery, Blake, Paislee, Paxton, and Justin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Robert “Bob” Waugh, Sr. and Mary Waugh, and by his brother Jack Waugh and sister Mary Lou Waugh.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the First Congregational Church in Russell, Kansas, with Pastor Ron Wedel officiating. A graveside service and burial will be held at 3:00 p.m.. on Thursday afternoon, June 22, 2023, at the Dighton Cemetery in Dighton, Kansas. Military honors will be presented by the Dighton American Legion and United States Marine Corps. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at the mortuary with family greeting guests from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening.

Vernon Robert 'Bob' Waugh, Jr.

Stacey Schumacher Badger, 56, passed away on Jan. 16, 2023, in Salem, Oregon. She was born June 27, 1966, in Hays, the daughter of Leon Schumacher and Stephanie Jacobs Schumacher.

Stacey was a graduate of the class of 1984 from Hays High School. She then attended Kansas State University from 1984 to 1988, where she earned two bachelor’s degrees: one in Spanish and another in journalism and mass communications.

Her senior year at Kansas State, Stacey was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and went on to graduate cum laude. Not long after graduating with her bachelor’s degrees, she made the decision to study law and attended the University of Kansas where she graduated in 1993 with a Juris Doctor degree.

Stacey soon began her legal career in Carbondale, Ill., where she worked as a legal intern for the Illinois Migrant Legal Assistance Project (IMLAP), performing outreach and providing legal assistance to migrant farmworkers there.

In 1996, she made the move to Chicago; to work as a staff attorney with the Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago (LAF), an organization that provides legal services to the economically disadvantaged. She eventually returned to work for IMLAP again, but this time in the role of staff attorney. Stacey was very passionate about advocating for the disadvantaged and marginalized in society. Because she was a fluent Spanish speaker, her position as staff attorney at IMLAP advocating for the rights of migrant farm workers was a perfect fit for her.

After a life-changing diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 1999, Stacey’s path changed significantly. She left her job at the Migrant Legal Assistance Project and accepted a position as a corporate immigration attorney with the Chicago law firm Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen and Loewy; where she worked until 2003.

In 2003, following her heart, she made a bold decision to leave behind her life as a corporate lawyer in Chicago, and instead, forged a new path for herself in Tucson, Ariz., where she moved in spring 2004. Arizona was a new beginning for Stacey and along with that brave move came many new life adventures, new job opportunities, and most importantly a new love, Don Badger. Stacey and Don, both practicing Buddhists, met at a local Buddhist meeting in Tucson in 2004. Soon after, they started dating, fell in love, and were later married on Feb. 26, 2006. Don was the love of Stacey’s life and the two lived happily together in Scottsdale, Ariz., until Don’s untimely death in January 2009.

Stacey continued to live in the Scottsdale area for several years after Don’s passing. Unfortunately, during that time, her MS progressed significantly, making everyday life more difficult for her to navigate alone. In 2014, she was introduced to Scott Belmont by a mutual friend from the Buddhist community in Scottsdale. The two hit it off instantly and quickly became a couple. In April of 2015, Stacey and Scott moved to Salem, Oregon, to escape the Arizona heat, where they continued to live together until Stacey’s recent hospitalization and subsequent passing.

Stacey was very much a citizen of the world and had many different interests and passions. She loved music of all kinds and had an extensive collection. Not only did she love listening to great music, Stacey also loved to sing. In high school she sang in the Pop Singers, Acapella Choir and performed in several musicals. She also loved to travel and made several trips to Mexico over the years, even attending the university in Jalapa, Veracruz, one summer. She visited Cuba, Guatemala, Brazil and on more than one occasion, Peru.

Stacey loved reading and, even more, writing. She was, in fact, an author. She wrote and released her own memoir, "The Invisible Cause," in 2011, which tells the story of her life and particularly recounts her struggles and perseverance after receiving the MS diagnosis in 1999 and the sudden passing of her husband, Don, in 2009.

Stacey Badger was a very spiritual person. She spent her lifetime working on healing and bettering herself in every way possible. She had a ‘never- give-up mentality,' and she practiced it until the end. We admire and miss her greatly.

Stacey is survived by her parents, Leon and Stephanie Schumacher, Hays; her brother, Scott Schumacher, Olathe; her sister, Jacinta (Kendall) McKevery, Olathe; her sister, Nicole (Sheldon) Mabry, Garland, Texas; her nieces, Stephanie Sailes Cervantez, Lewisville, Texas; Jourdan McKevery, Overland Park; Kierra McKevery Herdrich, Olathe; Regan Schumacher, Tulsa, Okla.; her nephew, Riley Schumacher, Lincoln, Neb.; her partner, Scott Belmont, Salem, Oregon; and many other family members and friends.

An inurnment will take place at 1:00, Saturday, June 24th, at the Saint Francis Cemetery in Munjor, Kansas, to be followed by a celebration of Stacey’s life at 2:00 at the V.F.W. in Hays, Kansas. All family and friends are welcome.

Carole Ann Zerr, age 85, of Quinter, KS, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the Sheridan County Hospital, Hoxie, KS. 

Services will be held on Monday, July 10 at 10 a.m. at the Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter, KS. Burial will take place at the Baker Township Cemetery in Quinter immediately following the service. Lunch will be served directly following the service, at the Eagles Lodge in WaKeeney.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Garry Zerr, parents Laurence and Elba Berry, sisters Audine (Dale) Richards, Donna (Jim) Dugan, and brother Larry (Reva) Berry. 

She is survived by her children Denise Billinger, Russell, KS, Julie (Jerry) Tynon, Kansas City, MO, Carla Bujnoch, Van Vleck TX, Paula Buchholz, Quinter KS, and Blaine (Stephanie) Buchholz, WaKeeney KS; grandchildren Brandon Knipp and wife Shelby, Russell, KS, Amanda Bujnoch, Kansas City, MO, Demi Bujnoch, Bay City, TX, Austin (Kyley) Wancura, Colby, KS; and great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Mason, Braxton and Skye Knipp, Alexandria, Onykah, and Krysta Bujnoch, and Evan Wancura. A favorite past time of hers was bowling. She bowled in local leagues for many years and traveled to state tournaments with her teams across Kansas and even went on a trip to Reno, NV for the nationals by train. One of the highlights of her bowling career was when she received her Grand Duchess pin at state for still bowling at the age of 70.

From a young age Carole worked at her parent's restaurants in Quinter and Plainville. She also spent many years as a cook and waitress in restaurants around WaKeeney.

Carole was always glad when her kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren came to visit her. She’d always try and find something to feed them. They all loved it when she cooked fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy and, boy, could she make awesome pies!

Services will be held on Monday, July 10 at 10 a.m. at the Schmitt Funeral Home, Quinter, KS. Burial will take place at the Baker Township Cemetery in Quinter immediately following the service. Lunch will be served directly following the service, at the Eagles Lodge in WaKeeney.She was proceeded in death by her husband Garry Zerr, parents Laurence and Elba Berry, sisters Audine (Dale) Richards, Donna (Jim) Dugan, and brother Larry (Reva) Berry. She is survived by her children Denise Billinger, Russell, KS, Julie (Jerry) Tynon, Kansas City, MO, Carla Bujnoch, Van Vleck TX, Paula Buchholz, Quinter KS, and Blaine (Stephanie) Buchholz, WaKeeney KS; grandchildren Brandon Knipp and wife Shelby, Russell, KS, Amanda Bujnoch, Kansas City, MO, Demi Bujnoch, Bay City, TX, Austin (Kyley) Wancura, Colby, KS; and great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Mason, Braxton and Skye Knipp, Alexandria, Onykah, and Krysta Bujnoch, and Evan Wancura. A special mention to Karen, Jacob, Jillian and Ashley Sanders, and Landon Smith, AZ. Carole is survived by her sister Sharon (Ted) Patterson, Quinter, KS and many nieces, nephews and friends.A favorite past time of hers was bowling. She bowled in local leagues for many years and traveled to state tournaments with her teams across Kansas and even went on a trip to Reno, NV for the nationals by train. One of the highlights of her bowling career was when she received her Grand Duchess pin at state for still bowling at the age of 70.From a young age Carole worked at her parent's restaurants in Quinter and Plainville. She also spent many years as a cook and waitress in restaurants around WaKeeney.Carole was always glad when her kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren came to visit her. She’d always try and find something to feed them. Donald Dean Ginther, 86, of Luray, Kansas, died surrounded by his family, on Friday, June 16, 2023, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Donald was born on February 9, 1937, in Russell, Kansas, the son of Alex S. and Helen Arlene (Schmidt) Ginther. 

He grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1955. He joined the United States National Guard, serving his country for several years. 

He met, fell in love, and was united in marriage to Simone Marie Urban on February 04, 1961, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell, Kansas. From this union Donald and Simone was blessed with six children Tom, Kathy, Marlene, Joyce, Donna and Kenneth. 

He worked as a farmer and rancher and loved tending to his farm and being outdoors. He was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Russell. He was a member of the Waldo Volunteer Fire Department, the Natoma, Paradise and Waldo School Board and Waldo Township Board. He enjoyed fishing, farm animals, University of Kansas basketball and Kansas City Chiefs football. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and many grandchildren.

Surviving family include his wife of 62 years, Simone of the home; son Tom Ginther (Theresa) of Luray, Kansas; daughters Kathy Moravek (John) of Hays, Kansas, Marlene Miller (Mike) of Canton-Galva, Kansas, Joyce Webb (Russell) of Minneapolis, Kansas and Donna Dirks (Eric) of Lorraine, Kansas; brothers Milt Ginther and Glenn Ginther (Daisy) all of Russell, Kansas and Elnora Boatright (Bob) of Lawrence, Kansas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Kenneth Ginther, brothers Dwain and Allen Ginther.

A celebration of Donald’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 23, 2023, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell, Kansas. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday June 22, 2023, at the mortuary with family greeting guests from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday evening. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Waldo Fire Department #3 or Amherst Church and sent in care of the mortuary.&nbsp;
