Phillipsburg resident Steven Lind passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska, age 64.

Steven Alexander Lind was born on September 5, 1958, son of Jack and Suzanne (Gochis) Lind.&nbsp;

Steven was married to Vicky (Henry) Lind on December 10, 2010, in Phillipsburg, Kansas.

He is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Suzanne Lind and his brother-in-law Craig Bonham.&nbsp;

Steve is survived by is wife Vicky Lind of Phillipsburg, Kansas, brother Jeff Lind and wife LeeAnne of Hastings, Nebraska, and sisters Linea Bonham of Franklin, Nebraska, Kris Taylor and husband Joe of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Marty Anderson and husband John of Minden, Nebraska.

Casey D. Richardson, 38, died Tuesday July 18, 2023 at his home in Lakin, Kansas. He was born February 9, 1985 in Cheyenne, Wyoming, the son of Kirk and Linda (Bosak) Richardson. Casey’s family relocated to Lakin when he was a young child and remained here.

Casey attended local schools and graduated from Lakin High School before going on to Fort Hays State University. He obtained his business degree at FHSU and moved to Denver, Colorado where he made his career as a loan officer. 

During the pandemic he relocated back home to Lakin. Casey was easy going and someone people were drawn too. He could talk to anyone.&nbsp;He enjoyed fishing, hiking and camping. He is survived by his parents Kirk and Linda Richardson of Lakin, Kansas; sister Keri (Nick) Hansen of Lakin, Kansas; brother Bo (Courtney) Richardson of Aurora, Colorado; five nieces and nephews, and his grandmother Stephanie Bosak of Cheyenne, Wyoming. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Betty Ann (Balloun) Boxberger, 90, of Russell, Kansas, passed peacefully Sunday, July 23, 2023 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas, with her family by her side.

Betty was born on March 1, 1933, in Russell.&nbsp; She was the daughter of Rudolph George and Mabelle (Britt) Balloun.&nbsp; She spent the first year of her life in Gorham, Kansas.&nbsp; Thereafter, her family moved to Russell.&nbsp; 

Betty was baptized in Trinity United Methodist Church.&nbsp; 

She grew up and attended schools in Russell; graduating from Russell High School in 1951.&nbsp; Betty then attended and graduated from Central Business College in Denver, Colorado.&nbsp; She went to work for the Bureau of Reclamation in Denver.&nbsp; Betty returned to Russell in December 1953.&nbsp; 

In March 1954, she met and fell in love with Dean H. Boxberger.&nbsp; After a seven-week courtship, they were united in marriage on May 16, 1954, in St. John Lutheran Church.&nbsp; From this union, they were blessed with five sons, Matthew, Mark, Thomas, Timothy and Scott.&nbsp; 

Betty joined and was confirmed in St. John Lutheran Church.&nbsp;

 While their sons were growing up, Betty chose to be a stay-at-home Mom.&nbsp; She enjoyed being the room mother, cub scout den mother, 4-H Leader, and volunteering in any activity that her family was involved with.&nbsp; 

Throughout her life she did secretarial work for the Bureau of Reclamation; Sohio Oil company; Harold McCombs, Attorney; Ostrum &amp; Balloun, Attorneys; St. John Lutheran Church; Russell High School; State Farm Insurance; and Russell County Extension Office.&nbsp; She also worked many years for USD 407 as a special education paraprofessional.&nbsp; 

Betty loved music and played the piano during many of her younger years.&nbsp; 

She loved God and was strong in her faith.&nbsp; She was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, serving on the Altar Guild, in the Sunday School, Prayer Shawl Ministry, member of Martha Circle, and several other volunteer jobs in her church and community.&nbsp; 

She was treasurer for the Russell Roughriders and treasurer and board member of the Russell County Food Pantry.&nbsp; She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and VFW Ladies Auxiliary.&nbsp; 

Her greatest joy was her family.&nbsp; Betty and Dean shared 69 years of marriage.&nbsp; She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and traveling with her family.&nbsp; 

She enjoyed cooking, knitting, bowling, playing bridge and crafts.

Betty’s surviving family include her husband Dean of the home; sons, Matthew Boxberger (Genevieve) of San Jose, California, Mark Boxberger (Amy) of Noblesville, Indiana, Thomas Boxberger (Sheri) of Lawrence, Kansas, Timothy Boxberger (Dylan Palma) of Russell, Kansas and Scott Boxberger (Desiree) of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren, George, Joe, Betsy, Jakob, Elyse, Gretchen, Cassie, Joshua, and Jenna;&nbsp; great-grandson, Rami; brother, Gene Balloun (Sheila Wombles) of Lenexa, Kansas; stepsister, Joanne Grandstaff (Carl) of Hoisington, Kansas; several nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, George R. Balloun, Lloyd L. Balloun and Robert Balloun; sisters-in-law, Violetta Balloun, Nancy Balloun, Pat Balloun and Patty Balloun.

Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 29, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Church.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 28, 2023 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.&nbsp;

Jane Ann Lundy-Matlock, 68, of Vinita, Oklahoma, passed away on July 18, 2023. She was born on October 6, 1954, in Vinita, Oklahoma, to Lloyd and Ida (Simms) Lundy. 

Jane attended high school in Hays, Kansas, graduating in 1972. She then attended Colby Community College, graduating with an associate of applied science in animal technology. Throughout Jane’s younger years, she helped her parents in the hospitality business. Jane worked as a registered nurse at the Hays Medical Center for more than 20 years, before retiring.

She had many interests such as traveling and visiting many interesting countries around the world. 

She enjoyed reading and Jane always loved horses, beginning with her first pony, KoKo. She enjoyed rescuing neglected animals as well as working with her own horses. Her special interest was the American Curly Horse. Jane is preceded in death by her father, Lloyd, and a sister, Connie Baldwin. Those left to cherish Jane’s memory include her mother, Ida (Simms) Lundy, her niece, Jenny Norris Burch and husband, Allen, her nephew, Christopher Norris and wife, Megan, her business partner, and good friend, Sabrina Symns, very special longtime nursing friends, Helen and Theresa, lifetime “bonus sister” Meg, along with numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Darlene Francis Woelk, 90, went to be with her Lord on Friday, July 21, 2023, at The Pratt Health and Rehab in Pratt, Kansas.

Darlene was born on May 12, 1933, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Francis Newton and Eva Gretchen (Hogue) Davis.&nbsp; 

She was raised by her mother and would recall her adventures in her mom’s restaurant growing up in Beloit, Kansas.&nbsp; 

She graduated from Beloit High School and began working the summer of 1951, for Woelk Implement in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; 

She met the love of her life and was united in marriage to Donald F. Woelk on July 27, 1952, in Beloit, Kansas.&nbsp; They were married for 53 years and from this union they were blessed with three children, Pamela, Diane and Daron.&nbsp; 

In 1970, she became a successful tax consultant and continued this job until in 1979, when she and Don opened Woelk’s House of Diamonds in Russell.&nbsp; 

She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Order of the Eastern Star and was a Deines Cultural Center Board Member.&nbsp; She retired from the jewelry store at the age of 78.&nbsp; She continued to enjoy playing bridge with many of her friends and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She loved going to her grandchildren’s activities and made wonderful memories with all of them.

She is survived by her daughter Diane Ladenburger and husband Kenton of Pratt, Kansas, son Daron Woelk and wife Katrina of Russell, Kansas, granddaughters Alysha Dickson (Andrew), Audrey Wells (Doug), Amber Johnson (Chaun), Jennalee Martin, Aubrey Larson, grandsons Bryant Woelk (Darian) and Chase Woelk along with 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don in 2005, and daughter Pamela in 1969.

GOODLAND - On July 21, 2023, surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Virginia Ann Warakomski peacefully passed away at home after a short illness.&nbsp; Virginia was born on December 27, 1927, in Chicago, IL to Joseph and Estelle (Fydryck) Waldin.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She spent her early childhood on a dairy farm in Stevens Point, WI and then moved with her family to Niles, IL, where she graduated from Niles Township High School.&nbsp;

She and John Warakomski were married in 1948 and moved to St. Louis, MO, where she raised her two children, Mike and Mary Ellen.&nbsp; 

In her later years, she moved to Goodland, Kansas, where she enjoyed volunteering at the Goodland Churches Thrift Shop and working at Terra Bona Hawaiian Shave Ice and Coffee Company.&nbsp; 

She was an active parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, where she played the organ for mass.&nbsp; 

Virginia was an active member of the Goodland community as well.

Virginia was an avid gardener as well as a sewer and quilter.&nbsp; In her spare time, she enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles with her family.&nbsp; One of her great joys was teaching two of her great-granddaughters, Gracie and Hannah, to sew.&nbsp; She enjoyed her Tuesday afternoon sewing group at the First Christian Church.&nbsp; 

She was a lifelong learner, taking piano lessons to improve her musical skills even at her advanced age, and enjoyed being a member of the library book club.&nbsp; She was especially proud of the “Good Neighbor Award” given “in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the Grandview Hills Neighborhood in Missouri,” prior to moving.&nbsp;

Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, John Warakomski; her parents, Joseph and Estelle (Fydryck) Waldin; her brothers, Joseph and Paul Waldin; her sister, Theresa (Waldin) Buck.&nbsp;

She is survived by her children, John Michael “Mike” Warakomski (Janet) and Mary Ellen Coumerilh (John), as well as her four grandchildren, Benjamin and Michael Coumerilh and Matthew and Christopher Warakomski; and her eight great-grandchildren, Kylee Addison, Gracie Warakomski; Kaitlyn, John R. and Hannah Coumerilh, and Madison, Rylie and Elijah Coumerilh as well as many friends.

A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. MT at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father Carlos Ruiz officiating.&nbsp; Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.

Linda K. Beachel, 73, passed away on July 20, 2023, in Oberlin, Kansas. Linda was born on January 20, 1950, to John Calvin and Barbara Jean (Corbin) Kappers in Colby, Kansas.

Linda was raised in Oberlin and went to Oberlin High School. 

After high school she bartended and cooked for many years. Linda enjoyed spending time at the lake, camping, fishing, and playing bingo. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

On March 1, 1985, Linda married Ronyie Beachel in Oberlin, Kansas.

Linda is survived by her husband Ronyie and her children: Kay (Jim) Betts; Brenda Van Pelt; Toby Beachel; Aaron Beachel; Corey Beachel; Colleen Bringewatt; Rebecca Beachel; and Gatlin Beachel; her siblings: Carolyn (Pete) Morales; Debby Jernigan; Gary King; and Ricky (Beth) King and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded by her parents, son Mike Beachel and niece JoEllen King.

Graveside services will be held at a later date in the Norcatur Cemetery in Norcatur, Kansas.

DIGHTON - Gerald E. Riley, 85, died on Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Hays Medical Center in Hays. He was born on June 28, 1938 at Scott City the son of Clark Elmer &amp; Alice Loretta (Luckcuck) Riley. 

He married Donna Castle on November 30, 1975 at Wichita. Gerald graduated from Dighton High School in 1956 and Fort Hays State University in 1960.

He returned to Dighton and spent a lifetime with his love of farming. He was a member of First Christian Church of Dighton, Barney Masonic Lodge and Isis Shrine. 

He enjoyed spending winters in Arizona, watching his brother coach basketball and being involved in his nephews' activities. He is survived by his wife Donna Riley, stepdaughter Renee Schooley of Salina, and granddaughter Allie and Jeff Michel of Salina, brother Keith and Merriel Riley of Hill City, and nephews Brian and Darby Riley of Prairie Village and Geoffrey and Sara Riley and great-niece Alice Riley of Kansas City, Missouri. Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Dighton Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Jennifer Bradford officiating. Friends may call from noon to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Boomhower Funeral Home in Dighton.

Steve Simonson, 72, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023 peacefully at his home in Ransom, KS. Steve was born on August 31, 1950 in Great Bend, KS to Donald and Beverly (Chaffin) Simonson.

Steve owned the Jayhawk Moving and Storage Company in Great Bend for several years before becoming the owner of “The Hatchery” in Great Bend. He later worked as a carpenter and painter in Great Bend and Pagosa Springs, Colorado. He was a jack of all trades and had a real zest for life.

He was preceded in death by his father, Don Simonson. 

He is survived by his mother, Beverly Chaffin Simonson; children, Joshua Simonson and Jessilyn Simonson; sisters, Kim Son of Radium, Debbie Hughes of Las Vegas; brother, Mike Simonson of Las Vegas; and seven grandchildren.

Dean Holmes was born on July 14, 1937 to Carl and Bernice Holmes. &nbsp;

Dean grew up in Ness County, Kansas. &nbsp;He attended Bazine High School.

What Dean was most proud of was his kids and grandkids, followed by his job as quality control engineer in the construction of the B-2 "Stealth" Bomber.&nbsp;

 &nbsp;He was formerly married to Shirla Bittner Holmes. &nbsp;Four children were born of this marriage, Regina, Lyle, Craig and Jeff. &nbsp;

Those left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Regina Lovell and husband, John; Lyle Holmes and wife LaDawn; and Craig Holmes and wife, Betty; one brother, Larry Holmes; eight grandchildren, Sarah Holmes, Mitch Holmes, Lindy Waltrip, Amanda Holmes, Tyke Holmes, Jace Holmes, Drake Holmes, and Cassie Haney; ten great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and his special friend of 15 years, Michelle Sander.

Juanita Mae Dinges, 86, passed away on July 24, 2023 at the Cedar Village Care Center in Ness City, Kansas. &nbsp;She was born on November 22, 1936 in Leoti, Kansas the daughter of George and Frances (Berning) Kessler.

Juanita was a hairdresser and worked for Ralph’s Best Yet Supermarket for many years. 

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and the Altar Society. 

She married Tom Dinges on August 28, 1956, in Marienthal, Kansas. He died on April 29, 2002.

Survivors include her three daughters, Sherry (John) Walker of Ness City, Verlinda Kraft of Ellinwood, Brenda (Howard) Boese of Brownell; son, Darren (Brenda) Dinges of Ness City; brother, Hilary Kessler of Scott City; 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom Dinges, and six sisters, Nettie, Josie, Zita, Sister Jenny, Johanna, and Julie.

Funeral service will be on Monday, July 31, 2023, 10:00 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Church, Ness City, with burial following in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Viewing will be held at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until service time. A parish vigil &nbsp;and rosary will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, July 30, 2023 beginning at 6:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Ness City Library, the South Ness County EMS, or the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Lenora Mae Boyd, age 98, of Utica, Kansas, died on November 13, 2022, at Rhode Island Suites, Ransom. She was born on October 17, 1924, at the home located south of Pendennis, Kansas to Howard A. and Mildred M. (Mendenhall) Sigsworth.

She attended various county schools in Ness, Lane, and Sheridan counties and her freshman high school year at Sheridan County High School in Hoxie, Kansas. &nbsp;In December 1940, her family moved to Ontario, California where she graduated from Chaffey High School in 1943.

World War II had started in 1941. Convair (now General Dynamics) was building B-24 bombers in San Diego Plant #1. She went to work as a clerk in the welding dept. where she met her husband, C.E. (Gene) Boyd and married in 1945. He was drafted into the Air Corp and was sent to Nuremburg, Germany. She taught school in Gove County while he was away. 

On his return in 1946 they went back to San Diego, he to Convair, and she worked for several years as a department head at a title company.

They parted in 1953. During the next several years, she attended UCLA and Whitties College, became an airline stewardess, taught at a private airline school and at the same time served as the registrar for the school.

In 1957, she went to work processing new business for an agency of New England Life Insurance Co. She worked in this business for the next seven years. 

In 1964, she met and married her second husband, moved to Missouri, and lived on a ranch, co-owned a resort, and co-owned a trucking company. 

In October 1975, they dissolved their marriage, she moved back to Los Angeles, and worked in life insurance business for four years. She bought a home in Riverside County, CA, moved there and worked for a family of farmers who were selling and developing their land for homes, mall, etc. until she retired in October 1989.

She then moved back to Kansas where she resided for the next 33 years. She was active in her church, local library board, welfare of kids in the Youthville organization at the Dodge City Campus.

She never received a college degree even though she attended five different colleges; the courses she took were always pertaining to either her current job or a personal interest at the time. The last course was an IRS course on partnership and corporate taxation at the University of California at Riverside. 

She enjoyed painting flowers, knitting caps and sweaters for kids at Youthville, reading, gardening, and home decorating.&nbsp;

She was proceded in death by both parents, both sisters, all aunts and uncles and fifteen cousins.&nbsp; 

Survivors include two nieces, a stepson, Denzil Hellesen and wife, Shirley of Lebanon, MO and several cousins from the Mendenhall and second cousins from the Sigsworth families.

She requested no visitation and cremation.&nbsp; Graveside committal Service will be held at the Gove County Cemetery on Saturday, July 29, 2023, 10:00 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be given to Youthville or the Utica United Methodist Church.

Jeffrey was a mechanic. He was a member of a group called Free Tomorrow.

Roy Douglas Armstrong, age 71, died at his home in WaKeeney, Kansas on July 21, 2023. &nbsp;He was born in El Paso, Texas on August 27, 1951, the son of JD and Dorothy (Carroll) Armstrong, Sr. &nbsp;

Doug moved to many places with his family until they settled in Liberal, Kansas where he graduated from high school. He then moved to Hays in 1970 and attended Fort Hays State University on a wrestling scholarship. 

Doug worked for the State of Kansas Department of Health and Environment as an Environmental Compliance Regulatory Specialist. He retired in 2014 after 43 years. 

Doug never knew a stranger. He was a hard worker and loved carpentry. He enjoyed sharing his woodworking with others, gardening, and spending time with family and friends telling stories.

Doug is survived by his girlfriend of seventeen years, Doris Epke of Schoenchen, Kansas; his brothers, JD Armstrong, Jr. of Wichita, Kansas and Bobby Armstrong of Bel Aire, Kansas; his daughter, Tamara Delka and her husband, Troy, of Lincoln, Nebraska; his son Ryan Armstrong of Kansas; and two grandchildren, Kieston and Davin Delka.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Steve Armstrong.

There will not be a public service and the family will have a private memorial at a later date. &nbsp;

Mary Kay (DeWitt) Prickett, age 79, passed away on July 6, 2023, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, KS. She was born on May 27, 1944, in Trego County, KS, the daughter of Dale and Rose (Buell) DeWitt. 

She had four daughters Deborah Hayden (Tom), Christine Wilson (Michael), Brenda Wockenfuss (Brian) and Samantha Pohlman (Corey).

She was preceded in death by her parents Dale and Rose DeWitt, brother Richard (Mike) DeWitt, and granddaughter Heidi Hayden. 

In addition to her four daughters, she leaves behind a sister, Della Tomanek (Lynn), brother Ray DeWitt (Jackie), nine grandchildren, 20 great- grandchildren and six nieces.

Mary Kay was known as a hard worker, often holding two or three jobs at a time. However, her career and calling was working as a 911 dispatcher at the Trego County Law Enforcement Center, where she served for 37 years alongside her law enforcement family. 

Her proudest achievement was being a mom to her four daughters. She was also a loving daughter, sister, grandmother, “dog mom” and friend. She was ever learning, reading and enjoying her flowers, her dogs (and eventually a cat), and shopping for vintage treasures that she creatively displayed in her home.

She was a proud member of the community, serving on the WaKeeney Public Library Board and the Kansas Library Trustee Association as a Northwest Kansas Library System representative. She volunteered at the Trego County-Lemke Memorial Hospital gift shop. She was a Democratic precinct committee woman and was politically engaged. She supported all things local and loved that WaKeeney was the Christmas City of the High Plains, so much so, that Santa was often spotted riding with her during the Christmas season.

Visitation for friends and family will be held on Friday evening from 5:00 – 7:00, August 18, 2023, at the Western Cooperative Electric Association, 635 S. 13th Street, WaKeeney, KS.

Services will be held at 11:00, August 19, 2023, at the Ogallah Christian Church, 305 Centre Street, Ogallah, KS, with lunch following. A private burial will be held later.

Bill L. Zimmerman, 73, of Hays, Kansas, died Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Hays Medical Center. He was born December 10, 1949, in Quinter, Kansas to Joseph and Martina (Ziegler) Zimmerman. 

He married Vivian Werth in Hays on May 4, 1974. Bill graduated from Quinter High School, Quinter, Kansas in 1967. He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War for two years as a combat engineer building helicopter landing pads and roads. He also hauled heavy equipment while in Vietnam. He worked at Allied, Inc. (now APAC) as assistant manager of the Ready Mix and supervised drivers and the maintenance for the fleet of mixer trucks and equipment for almost 40 years before he retired due to health reasons.

He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles, fishing, hunting, gardening, and traveling all over the United States on his motorcycle. He was an excellent gardener and was proud to share fruit and produce with friends. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1325, Hays American Legion, Hays VFW, Vietnam Veterans of America, Harley Owners Group, the Patriot Guard, and the American Legion Riders. He is survived by his wife, Vivian of Hays; four brothers, Fr. Don Zimmerman, Manhattan, Kansas, Darrell (Barbara) Zimmerman, Mulvane, Kansas, Wayne (Sheryl) Zimmerman, Quinter, Kansas, and Bob Zimmerman, Stafford, Kansas; two sisters, Marilyn (Glen) Gabel, Hays, and Jolene (Tim) Nejdl, Quinter, Kansas; a brother-in-law, Allen (Cheryl) Werth, Hays, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Linda Werth, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Bonnie Werth, Colby, Kansas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, many friends, and his beloved cats. Zimmerman, 73, of Hays, Kansas, died Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Hays Medical Center. He was born December 10, 1949, in Quinter, Kansas to Joseph and Martina (Ziegler) Zimmerman. He married Vivian Werth in Hays on May 4, 1974. Bill graduated from Quinter High School, Quinter, Kansas in 1967. He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War for two years as a combat engineer building helicopter landing pads and roads. He also hauled heavy equipment while in Vietnam. He worked at Allied, Inc. (now APAC) as assistant manager of the Ready Mix and supervised drivers and the maintenance for the fleet of mixer trucks and equipment for almost 40 years before he retired due to health reasons. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles, fishing, hunting, gardening, and traveling all over the United States on his motorcycle. He was an excellent gardener and was proud to share fruit and produce with friends. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1325, Hays American Legion, Hays VFW, Vietnam Veterans of America, Harley Owners Group, the Patriot Guard, and the American Legion Riders. He is survived by his wife, Vivian of Hays; four brothers, Fr. Don Zimmerman, Manhattan, Kansas, Darrell (Barbara) Zimmerman, Mulvane, Kansas, Wayne (Sheryl) Zimmerman, Quinter, Kansas, and Bob Zimmerman, Stafford, Kansas; two sisters, Marilyn (Glen) Gabel, Hays, and Jolene (Tim) Nejdl, Quinter, Kansas; a brother-in-law, Allen (Cheryl) Werth, Hays, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Linda Werth, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Bonnie Werth, Colby, Kansas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, many friends, and his beloved cats. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Martina Zimmerman; his paternal grandparents, Ted and Rosalie (Heier) Zimmerman; his maternal grandparents, Adam and Mary Ann (Phlieger) Ziegler; his in-laws, Richard and Millie Werth; two sisters-in-law, Viola Zimmerman and Margery Werth; and a brother-in-law, George R Werth. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 215 W. 13th Street, Hays, Kansas. Officiant will be Fr. Rich Daise with Fr. Dana Clark Concelebrating. Bill L. Zimmerman

Floyd Charles Tuzicka, 85, of Russell, Kansas, and formerly of Hoisington and Olmitz, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, July 24, 2023 at the Russell Regional Hospital.

Floyd was born April 25, 1938 in rural Olmitz.&nbsp; He was the son of Charles George and Barbara Janice (Dome) Tuzicka.&nbsp; He grew up in Hoisington and attended Hoisington schools.

<h2>Floyd Charles Tuzicka, Russell</h2>Floyd Charles Tuzicka, 85, of Russell, Kansas, and formerly of Hoisington and Olmitz, Kansas, passed away Monday morning, July 24, 2023 at the Russell Regional Hospital.Floyd was born April 25, 1938 in rural Olmitz.&nbsp; He was the son of Charles George and Barbara Janice (Dome) Tuzicka.&nbsp; He grew up in Hoisington and attended Hoisington schools.Floyd served his country in the U.S. Army.&nbsp; He was stationed in Beirut and Lebanon.&nbsp; After his tour was done, he returned to the Olmitz area.Floyd was united in marriage to Clara Constance “Connie” Hewitt on November 17, 1963 in Medicine Lodge, Kansas.&nbsp; They made their home in Olmitz.&nbsp; They moved to the Russell area the last couple of years.Floyd worked for Red Tiger in the oilfields.&nbsp; He was a member of the St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Olmitz and later St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Russell.&nbsp; He was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus.&nbsp; He was past commander of the VFW Post in Hoisington and later joined the VFW Post 6240 in Russell.&nbsp; He enjoyed hunting, especially bird hunting, fishing and gardening.Floyd is survived by his wife of 59 years, Connie of the home.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Orville Tuzicka.Celebration of the funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 27, 2023 at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Russell.&nbsp; Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, at the St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery in Olmitz, where the Russell V.F.W. Post #6240 Honor Guard will conduct Military Rites.&nbsp; Vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m.to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the mortuary.&nbsp; A memorial has been established with St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church.&nbsp; Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
