Have you ever had a day where things just weren’t going the way you wanted? I know I sure have and just a couple of weeks ago, I acted like…. well, a brat, to a colleague. I all but stomped my foot in frustration and growled at someone who that I shouldn’t have. The frustration at the situation was very real but my reaction was more than it needed to be.

The 4-H motto is Learning by Doing and that applies to every aspect of life. Youth aren’t always going to make the best decisions; actually, many adults I know don’t always make the best decisions. However, our goal should always be to fairly evaluate the facts and our reaction. If we are fair in evaluating ourselves, we need to look at: do I have all the facts? Did I over-react? Will this really matter in 10 days or 10 years? What can I learn today to apply tomorrow?

Depending on the appropriateness of our reaction, we may need to own our mistake and apologize. In my case, that involved a heart-felt apology delivered with a box of cookies.

I encourage youth to stop and think about their actions and reactions. As leaders of youth, it is important to model behaviors which include apologizing when needed as well as giving them the space to learn and adjust. I encourage you to think about a situation recently that you might have handled differently and consider what you would change or if you need to make amends with someone.

Each of us are a work in progress but the goal is always progress!

Exploring Outdoors Kansas: The saga of Carl and Walter

OVERLAND PARK -&nbsp; U.S. Senator Roger Marshall announced at a Friday press conference, a shipment of protective equipment to Ukrainian military forces&nbsp;provided by Kansas law enforcement. 

The donors include Fort Hays State University police and the Colby Police Department.&nbsp;

Among the protective equipment being donated were approximately 300 vests and 50 helmets. The equipment varies in size and level of protection but will be distributed to both military and law enforcement officials within Ukraine.

Senator Marshall was joined by Eudora Police Chief Wes Lovett; Mike Bergmeier, owner of ShieldAg; and Daniel Rauchholz, owner of Farmada – Kansans who were instrumental in the collection of the protective equipment.&nbsp;

“We have all been inspired by the courage and bravery of the Ukrainian people and very few days go by in my life that somebody doesn’t ask, ‘What can we do to help the people of Ukraine?’ All this equipment is a testament of what Kansans do when we come together – more than 300 vests and 50 helmets all donated from 20 different Kansas law enforcement departments and agencies. These donations will help military and law enforcement officials in Ukraine and save lives,”&nbsp;said Senator Marshall.

Donations of the protective equipment were collected from Carbondale Police Department, Colby Police Department, Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, Eudora Police Department, Fort Hays State University Police, Haven Police Department, Kansas Attorney General’s Office, Leavenworth Police Department, McPherson Police Department, Overland Park Police Department, Park City Police Department, Riley County Police Department, University of Kansas Office of Public Safety, Wellington Police Department, and Wichita State University Police Department.

Senator Marshall’s staff is working with the Ukrainian Embassy to ship the items to Poland and they will then be moved into Ukraine and provided to Ukrainian military forces.

After a pause, the National Alliance on Mental Illness Hays affiliate is sponsoring an in-person NAMI Walk on Saturday.

The walk will begin at 10 a.m. at Municipal Park at the east shelter near the tennis courts. Walkers are invited to walk up to three miles along the dike next to the Fort Hays State University campus.

The walk will be in conjunction with a similar event in Topeka, as well as other walks occurring across the nation to celebrate the United Day of Hope. This is the first year NAMI will have walks again in person after two years of having virtual walks because of COVID.

The walks are aimed at bringing awareness to mental illness, as well as raising money to support NAMI programs.

Anastasia Condon, walk manager for <a href="https://namikansas.org">NAMI Kansas</a>, said people often establish teams in memory of loved ones who have died by suicide. Family members of people who have mental illness are also encouraged to walk.

The fundraising goal for NAMI Kansas is $100,000 of which more than $41,000 has already been donated.

Fifty percent of all the funds raised in Hays will stay in the community to support programs, including classes, support groups and advocacy programs. All the resources and classes NAMI provides are free. Information shared in classes and support groups is confidential.

NAMI Hays offers a Connections support group for people who have a mental illness at 7 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of the month at the Center for Life Experience, 103 E. 27th St., Hays. The NAMI family support group is offered at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month also at the Center for Life Experience. 

Both support groups are offered in-person in Hays, as well as online.

Peer to Peer and Family to Family education programs are offered by NAMI throughout the year.

"What I don't think people realize is all the resources available through NAMI," said Corrina Hudsonpillar, the new chairperson of the NAMI Hays steering committee. "I didn't realize until I first became associated with NAMI. There are so many resources that are offered free, which is beautiful."

She said she hopes events like the walk can help people become more aware and be more comfortable talking about mental illness.

"The more we can talk about mental health, the better it is for everybody," she said.

Although more discussions are happening about mental illness, Hudsonpillar said stigma still persists.

"People don't talk about, 'I'm going to see my therapist today,'" she said. "But they're not afraid to say, 'I'm going to go to the doctor today,' or 'I'm going to go to the chiropractor today,' 'I'm going to go to the dentist.' Instead, when they are going to the therapist, they say they have an appointment.

"We want people to talk about that more and know that it's normal."

The NAMI Walk is open to anyone in the community who wishes to join. Children, and pets on leashes are welcome. You don't have to donate to participate. 

Hudsonpillar said those who can't make the organized event are encouraged to walk on their own any distance they wish.

Exercise is an important part of mental health, as well as physical health, she said.

Hudsonpillar said she hopes to grow the walk in Hays in the future.

NAMI Walk Hays to raise mental health awareness, funds

Shelby Oshel, a Fort Hays State University student from Parsons, is the 2022 recipient of the Lynn Haggard Undergraduate Library Research Award.

This prestigious award recognizes excellence in undergraduate research that incorporates the use of FHSU’s Forsyth Library resources and demonstrates sophisticated information literacy skills.

"Research, regardless of academic discipline, requires the best from those who partake in the process," Oshel said. “I am beyond honored to have my research serve as an example of our library’s excellent resources.”

The award honors Lynn Haggard, retired Forsyth librarian, and her 18 years of service to the FHSU community.

Students who apply for the award provide a copy of their research project, a bibliography, and a reflective essay detailing the search process and lessons learned. A committee of librarians, graduate students, and faculty from each of the five colleges evaluated the materials from ten applicants.

“Not only did Shelby write a unique research paper, but she also wrote a truly exemplary reflective essay,” said Elizabeth Downing-Turner, digital curation librarian and chair of the selection committee. “Her thoughtful evaluation of the research process demonstrates the skills the library can help students develop.”

Oshel will receive a $500 cash award for her research project, “Specters, Séance, Sex, and Spirit Cabinets: A Glance at the Smoke and Mirrors of Victorian Era England’s Obsession with Contacting the Dead.” As a senior majoring in history, Oshel completed her as part of the Historical Methods course taught by Hollie Marquess, lecturer of history.

“Her topic was fascinating, and she put forth an original thesis,” Marquess said.&nbsp; “Recently, she presented this at a conference, and the president of that association told me that Shelby needs to publish this because she would love to use it in courses since it covers so much information in an approachable way."

FHSU’s Forsyth Library announces recipient of research award

TOPEKA—Angela Coble will be sworn in as judge on the&nbsp;<a href="https://kansascourts.org/l/q353DjcZiYQu0aZnvpL27YMfBW4BL7kQENOAamJpyuA">Kansas Court of Appeals</a>&nbsp;at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, before an invited audience in the Supreme Court courtroom in the Kansas Judicial Center, Topeka.

Chief Judge Arnold-Burger, Kansas Court of Appeals, will preside over the ceremony. Coble will be introduced by retired U.S. Magistrate Judge Karen M. Humphreys and&nbsp; sitting U.S. Magistrate Judge Gwynne E. Birzer.

Coble was appointed to the Court of Appeals by Gov. Laura Kelly to fill a vacancy created when Judge Michael Buser retired January 31. Her appointment was confirmed by the Kansas Senate in March.

Coble grew up in Stockton and was introduced to the justice system through the discomfort of a child in the family court system. This planted in her the desire to become part of a solution to other people’s problems and to make sure every person has equal access to justice.

When Coble attended Kansas Wesleyan University, where she studied criminal justice, she was introduced to then-District Judge David Knudson, who was one of her professors.

"Judge Knudson encouraged me to pursue a career in law, but I was unsure where in the system I might fit,” Coble said.

After she graduated, Coble went to work for the clerk’s office of the U.S. District Court in Kansas City. That experience helped solidify her desire to pursue a career in law, first as a lawyer and then as a judge.

Coble said she has had two distinct legal careers since graduating from law school, and it’s the variety and depth of her experience that prepared her to become an appellate judge.

“During my time practicing as a lawyer, I met with clients, counseled them on which legal avenues to pursue, and appeared with them before judges across Kansas,” she said.

Then, as chambers counsel in the federal court system, Coble advised judges on the law applicable to parties’ disputes. She also drafted hundreds of judicial decisions from the court’s neutral perspective.

“Between these two careers, I have been able to sit in nearly every seat in the courtroom, which was excellent preparation for becoming a judge,” Coble said.

What Coble looks forward to most about becoming a Court of Appeals judge is the court’s traveling dockets. The court recently resumed its traveling docket after conducting oral argument only by videoconference during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I look forward to getting out into the communities across the state to meet litigants, attorneys and the people of Kansas,” she said. “Judges want people to know we are everyday people and we want you to understand how the system works.” &nbsp;

Coble graduated from Kansas Wesleyan College with a degree in criminal justice. She earned her law degree from the Washburn University School of Law, where she was on the Washburn Law Journal staff.

Before she was appointed to the Court of Appeals, Coble was law clerk to Magistrate Judge Gwynne Birzer and retired Magistrate Judge Karen Humphreys, both of the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas.

Before she joined the federal court, Coble was with Kennedy Berkley Yarnevich &amp; Williamson, Chtd., Salina, first as an associate attorney and later as a junior partner. She practiced primarily in civil litigation, including employment, domestic, insurance and personal injury law, and in vaccine injury law before the Court of Federal Claims in Washington, DC.

Coble is a member of the Kansas Women Attorneys Association, Wichita Women Attorneys Association, Kansas Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, American Bar Association, and was a part of the Rule 1 Committee of the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas. She also served as president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer of the Saline-Ottawa County Bar Association. She was on the board of directors of the Salina Airport Authority and the Salina Emergency Aid Food Bank, and she is the past president of the Salina Family Healthcare Center.

After a new judge serves one year on the court, they must stand for a retention vote in the next general election to remain in the position. If retained, the judge serves a four-year term.

Remember when small town Kansas had filling stations instead of convenience stores?&nbsp;

Today we will meet an old time filling station, but this one is not about filling your gas tank. Instead, it’s about filling your stomach.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Nancy Fife-Eagle and her daughter Beth Stockebrand are co-owners of Hys Filling Station, a diner in Yates Center. Nancy is vice president and compliance officer for GNBank in Yates Center. Beth is a nursing home administrator. Nancy and her husband live in the house where she grew up, in the nearby rural community of Toronto, population 281 people. Now, that’ s rural.&nbsp;

For decades, Yates Center had a small diner named Tip-Top Café. It had great memories for both Nancy and Beth.&nbsp;

“Tip-Top was my first job at 15 and I could barely drive,” Beth said. Her late father worked in the restaurant industry and even ran a small carryout place. “My dad was a really good cook.”&nbsp;

The Tip-Top Café closed and became another restaurant briefly, but was then abandoned. Beth attended Emporia State, married a Woodson County guy, and returned to the community.&nbsp;

In 2016, Nancy and Beth decided to purchase, remodel and reopen the old diner. “My husband is a car guy,” Beth said. “He runs an auto body shop in Iola so we wanted an automotive theme.”&nbsp;

In front of the diner, they installed an antique gas pump from her grandfather’s shop.&nbsp;&nbsp;Using the name Hys from Beth’s grandparent’s business name, they called it Hys Filling Station.&nbsp;

“A few people have pulled up to the pump and tried to get gas,” Nancy said with a smile.&nbsp;&nbsp;There’s no gasoline, but when those customers get inside, they find down-home family cooking and small town friendliness.&nbsp;

Hys Filling Station features hamburgers, cheeseburgers, pork tenderloin, chicken strips, chicken fried steak, ham and beans and much more.&nbsp;&nbsp;“We’ve had people rave about our hamburgers, and our chicken and noodles always sells out,” Nancy said. “All of our hamburger is grown by a local farmer.”&nbsp;

There are daily specials, including casseroles and homemade chicken and noodles every Friday. The diner is open for breakfast and lunch.&nbsp;

This is a family affair. “Beth’s father-in-law, Ron Stockebrand, breads everything by hand,” Nancy said. Beth’s mother-in-law Patty makes pies.&nbsp;

In honor of Beth’s dad, there is an entree called the Herbie, which consists of a hamburger patty on Texas toast with handcut fries, chili and cheese.&nbsp;

“My 13-year old son washes dishes on Saturday,” Beth said. “I want to teach him a good work ethic.”&nbsp;

“(Working in the diner) brings us closer as a family,” Beth said. “When I make my dad’s chili, I think of him.”&nbsp;

Beth and Nancy credit the hard-working staff and supportive customers for the restaurant’s success.&nbsp;

“I like our customers, and this is all possible because we have great team members,” Beth said.&nbsp;

Nancy adds: “I enjoy our customers and our employees. We have a lot of fun.”&nbsp;

Small town friendliness abounds here. “We’re not a very big place, so folks will often share a table with someone else,” Nancy said. “Recently there was a couple in town for a funeral. They came in and sat down with another couple they didn’t know and by the time they left, they were friends. The one couple even paid for the other’s meal.”&nbsp;

“We like to connect with people,” Beth said. “When I leave here on Saturday, my heart is full.”&nbsp;

K-State expert shares how to help gardens through severe weather&nbsp;

MANHATTAN — Storm season can be stressful for many reasons, but for Kansas gardeners, protecting their plants is a priority.&nbsp;

With Kansas’ storm season in full swing, Kansas State University horticulture expert Ward Upham has tips on how to protect and recover gardens from severe weather damage.&nbsp;

“We are entering storm season and various areas of the state will likely have high winds, excessive rainfall and hail,” Upham said.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“The force of rainfall pounding on the soil can result in a thick crust that prevents seed emergence and partially blocks oxygen from reaching roots,” Upham said. Correcting this issue is as easy as lightly scraping the soil surface after is has dried. Upham cautions deep tiling as it could damage young, tender roots.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“Standing water cuts off oxygen to the roots, which can result in plant damage if it doesn’t drain quickly enough,” he said. Plants can sometimes handle 24 hours of standing water, but hot weather following the rainfall can cause the water to become hot enough to ‘cook’ the plants.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“There isn’t much that can be done about this unless a channel can be cut to allow the water to drain,” Upham said.&nbsp;

Hail damaged plants should recover quickly as long as only the leaves were damaged. If stems and fruit were damaged the situation may become more serious. “The plant can recover from a few bruises, but if it looks like the plants were mowed down by a weed whip, replanting is in order,” Upham said.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“Either wind or water can cause plants to lean,” Upham said “They should start to straighten after a few days.” He does not recommend trying to bend them back as the plants often break easily.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Upham and his colleagues in K-State’s Department of Horticulture and Natural Resources produce a weekly Horticulture Newsletter with tips for maintaining home landscapes. The newsletter is&nbsp;available to view online&nbsp;or can be delivered by email each week.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Tips on protecting gardens during storm season

A new greenhouse is nearing completion at Victoria Junior/Senior High School.

The 20-by-40-foot structure will be used by the school's FFA program.

The program has 55 students, but they have lacked a space to grow plants. To this point, they have been growing a limited number of vegetables and flowers in the windowsills of their agriculture teacher's classroom.

The greenhouse was paid for with funds from local sponsors and Grants for Growing funds.

It will allow the students to grow a variety of plants and vegetables year-round. They plan to grow tomatoes, cucumbers, herbs sunflowers, petunias and other flowers.

The FFA students said they are looking forward to being able to have more hands-on growing experience.

Several of the FFA officers for next year said they intend to pursue agriculture careers, including farming and agribusiness.

The students hope to have a Mother's Day flower sale and a plant sale next spring. They also hope to grow vegetables that students can eat at school.

Funds raised through the sales will help fund FFA programs and travel. 

Jacy Klaus, FFA sponsor, said the school tries to take the students on at least one out-of-state trip each school year. This could include attending the FFA National Convention.

Klaus said the FFA chapter also hopes to involve some of the grade school children in their planting projects.

"It's really become not just an FFA project, but a community project," Klaus said. "We're looking forward in the spring working with the community and the community being able to use our plants in their gardens."

While a few serious
issues continue to be debated in committee and the courts, basically the 2022
legislative session is a wrap. And once again, Medicaid expansion didn’t pass.

True, the
legislature agreed upon an expansion of the postpartum health coverage offered
under KanCare to new mothers, which is an important step. But the broader
expansion of Medicaid, the one embraced by 38 states (including every state
that borders Kansas), the one supported by nearly 80% of Kansas voters, is
still firmly opposed by a majority of the Republicans those voters sent to
Topeka. Why this is the case remains puzzling. One reason may be the
misinformation about Medicaid expansion frequently spread by Republican
leaders--often intentionally, but also sometimes due to their own confusion.

The traditional
conservative line against expanding Medicaid coverage to people who have no
medical insurance through their low-paying jobs and cannot afford private
insurance, but still aren’t poor enough to meet KanCare’s strict requirements,
is that doing so would increase the number of “able-bodied” people receiving
government assistance, and that’s bad. That position can be argued with, of
course, but at least it reflects an ideological position familiar to Kansans.

Lately though, leading
Republicans have also taken to claiming that Medicaid expansion must be fought
in order defend those Kansans already on Medicaid. Representative Dan Hawkins,
the Republican majority leader in the Kansas House, recently made this case,
insisting that in states which have expanded Medicaid high enrollments have
“crowd[ed] out other state budget priorities,” lengthened waiting lists, and
left those states with “less to spend on things like education and public
safety.” These claims either lack context or are simply incorrect.

It is true that
Medicaid enrollments in the states which have expanded their programs have been
far higher than anticipated, especially during the pandemic. But the evidence
for Rep. Hawkins’s other claims is very thin. Medicaid expansion, it must be
remembered, was part of the overall reform of American health care which the
Affordable Care Act created over a decade ago, and taps federal resources to
cover Medicaid costs. An extensive study of the budgets in all states where
Medicaid has been expanded--published by the non-partisan Commonwealth
Fund--concluded that the budgetary burden of Medicaid payments in most of those
states actually declined, even with higher than estimated enrollments. And
whatever additional costs and bureaucratic transitions came with managing those
Medicaid applicants, they were almost never large enough to threaten existing
programs or force tax increases to maintain balanced budgets.

Hawkins’s warning
about people dying while waiting for treatment under Medicaid in expansion
states sounds worrisome—until you remember similar tragedies characterize
waiting lists in non-expansion states. When dealing the health needs of the
working poor and disabled, there’s always plenty of frightening statistics
available. But pitting those currently receiving KanCare assistance against
those Kansans struggling to survive on incomes that put them below the poverty
line misses the whole point of Medicaid in the first place.

Ultimately, when
Hawkins writes that “expansion in Kansas will result in the same outcome as it
has in every other state where it has been implemented,” he’s actually arguing
in favor of a positive change. My recommendation to anti-expansion Republicans
like Hawkins, therefore, is to stick with their well-understood, Brownback-era,
anti-welfare and libertarian arguments. Trying to claim that the policy changes
which Medicaid expansion would entail for some Kansans receiving its assistance
is itself an argument for denying of it to other equally needy people simply
doesn’t work.

INSIGHT KANSAS: The never-ending fight against Medicaid misinformation

HaysMed nurse honored with Daisy Award

Several Fort Hays State University faculty and students provided presentations at the Kansas Section Meeting of the Mathematical Association of America.

The conference was held last month in Atchison, where FHSU representatives gave nearly half of the 13 presentations for attendees from various colleges and universities around the state.

FHSU’s two student teams brought home fourth- and fifth-place finishes from the Collegiate Math Competition held during the conference.

Claiming fourth place were Peilin Zhang, Chulin Feng, and Lailah Collins. Finishing right behind in fifth place were fellow Tigers Sanghoon Lee and Seung Gu Lee.

Faculty representatives for FHSU were Drs. Soumya Bhoumik, Keith Dreiling, Paul Flesher, Sarbari Mitra, Bill Weber, Lanee Young, and Hongbiao Zeng.

Well, it’s been decided. &nbsp;The people have spoken. &nbsp;Our free right has been exercised. &nbsp;What we live for — the&nbsp;freedom to choose as a democracy. Now what?

My husband’s class was the&nbsp;first&nbsp;to graduate from the current Hays High School&nbsp;in 1982.&nbsp;&nbsp;When our daughter attended Hays High and we began going to events there, we&nbsp;were appalled at the condition of the bathrooms near the cafeteria. &nbsp;It&nbsp;clearly looked like an act of vandalism&nbsp;that&nbsp;had never been repaired&nbsp;and looked as if no maintenance whatsoever had been done. &nbsp;During&nbsp;the hype of the school bond, I heard a story about how some Hays High athletes vandalized the locker room after losing a big game. It sounded as if no one was held accountable – students or parents. Later, $10,000 was put into upgrading said locker room. Now, of course this is hearsay and I have no idea&nbsp;whether it is true. &nbsp;Somehow, after seeing those bathrooms though, I believe it.&nbsp;To give a fair shake,&nbsp;there have been upgrades&nbsp;over the years&nbsp;that are quite impressive. &nbsp;Though,&nbsp;if I am&nbsp;being&nbsp;completely honest, music has&nbsp;totally&nbsp;gotten the shaft in those upgrades and repairs.

I attended the “old” Hays High on 12th&nbsp;Street as did my&nbsp;husband,&nbsp;as well as&nbsp;my mother,&nbsp;who is now 89. &nbsp;According to Wikipedia, the old Hays High was built in 1916&nbsp;and parts were torn down and rebuilt in 1939. &nbsp;When we&nbsp;attended&nbsp;the old building,&nbsp;I don’t recall maintenance&nbsp;being a problem.&nbsp;I don’t recall vandalism happening&nbsp;or if it did, it was repaired.&nbsp;&nbsp;Everything was maintained and worked&nbsp;properly.&nbsp;&nbsp;Everyone who smoked, smoked outside – no big deal. &nbsp;The property was respected and taken care of,&nbsp;and it lasted through time&nbsp;– some of it&nbsp;is&nbsp;still standing and in&nbsp;decent&nbsp;shape&nbsp;for its age. &nbsp;Minus&nbsp;the 12th&nbsp;Street&nbsp;Auditorium,&nbsp;which&nbsp;is&nbsp;a disgrace and embarrassment. &nbsp;Luckily, the stars&nbsp;who&nbsp;shine on stage, shine&nbsp;brighter than&nbsp;the buckets holding the&nbsp;water&nbsp;dripping from the ceiling&nbsp;in front of the stage.

My point of this post is not to bash the decision people&nbsp;made,&nbsp;one way or the other,&nbsp;or to complain about taxes going up. &nbsp;My point is simply this&nbsp;– something new needs to be respected and maintained. &nbsp;Children and parents need to be held accountable if damage is done – whether they are a visiting school or the students attending every day. &nbsp;If I am going to pay for schools that are being built or fixed up, I expect them to be treated as if you were walking into my house. &nbsp;I don’t think that is too much to ask. &nbsp;It should be known that they are owned, if&nbsp;not on paper,&nbsp;by the people, with&nbsp;our contributions&nbsp;as a community. &nbsp;Administration must take&nbsp;their&nbsp;part&nbsp;very seriously&nbsp;in&nbsp;the&nbsp;management and&nbsp;maintenance of these buildings&nbsp;and hold anyone accountable who damages them. &nbsp;Children should be taught&nbsp;to&nbsp;respect the property&nbsp;and&nbsp;take care of something that their own children may use in the future. &nbsp;That is all I ask as a taxpayer who will now be contributing to&nbsp;future generations.

BARTON COUNTY—Two people were injured in an accident just afternoon Friday in Barton County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2015 Peterbilt semi driven by Clarence Ray&nbsp;Messick, 60, Saint John, was&nbsp; was following a 2022 John Deere 410R Sprayer driven by Jacob Tinsley, 30, Larned, eastbound on Kansas 96&nbsp;four miles northwest of Great Bend.

The semi began to pass the sprayer as the Peterbilt was making a left turn onto Northwest 30 Road.

The semi struck the left rear section of&nbsp; Sprayer causing it to rollover onto Northwest 30 Road. The semi&nbsp; came to rest on the south shoulder.

EMS transported Messick to Wesley Medical Center and Tinsley to the hospital in Great Bend.
