Accordingly, the university created the Dane G. Hansen Tiger Comeback Scholarship, made possible with a generous grant awarded by the Dane G. Hansen Foundation.

This initiative was designed to welcome back former FHSU students who were close to completing their degree but for various reasons stopped before finalizing degree requirements. Available to both online and on-campus students, this scholarship provides financial assistance for those who are close to completing their degree program.&nbsp;

Are you a former Fort Hays State student who ended your college education just short of getting a degree? Maybe it was because of family responsibilities? Or job demands? Or maybe because bills needed to get paid and there was nothing left to pay tuition?

Whatever the case, there is a critical need for professionals with a college degree in northwest Kansas. You could be the answer to this dilemma and “cross the finish line” to that once-elusive degree.

One such student, Christy Rothchild from Salina, was working toward a Bachelor of Science in nursing online. Rothchild learned she was pregnant with twins and had too many credit hours left to complete her degree the semester her babies were due. So she decided to put school on hold – a difficult, but wise, decision since her twins came early. She then had to assume the role of a busy mother for Aurora and Twila.

A few years later, the Tiger Comeback Scholarship caught Rothchild’s eye in the FHSU scholarship listing, and she decided she would give it a try.

Looking back on her experience, Rothchild noted, “Returning to Fort Hays State to finish was the best decision I ever made. I wish I had done it sooner.”

Crediting the leadership of Dr. Jenny Manry, professor and chair of the Department of Nursing, Rothchild successfully completed the required courses online, appreciating Manry’s tireless work to support students and make grants available for them.

Upon earning her bachelor’s degree in 2017, Rothchild entered directly into the online BSN to DNP (Bachelor of Science in Nursing to Doctor of Nursing Practice) program at Fort Hays State.

She is on track to graduate with her BSN to DNP in May 2022, and that will ultimately allow her to provide primary care across the life span.

After earning her undergraduate degree, Rothchild worked in a variety of leadership roles in acute care, then moved into her current work for Craig Homecare, doing pediatric home health care while she finishes graduate school.

She credits the Tiger Comeback Scholarship for helping her continue her education while raising a family, which now includes three daughters. Baby Lyra joined the Rothchild family this past May.

“I have that scholarship to thank for being able to finish at all and set my career path on becoming a nurse practitioner,” Rothchild said. “It helped us so much.”

Rothchild said she would encourage other students who might be considering returning to FHSU after some time away to check out the Dane G. Hansen Tiger Comeback Scholarship.

“This is the perfect time to step back and evaluate your options for both your education and career,” Rothchild said. “The last couple of years have taught us what is really important. The extra time with family is worth ‘leveling up’ your career to accommodate what really matters.”

NW Kan. downtowns earn accolades in 'heart and soul' ranking

BATON ROUGE, La. — Dawson Rooney of Hays was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Rooney was initiated at The University of Kansas.

Rooney is among approximately 25,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897 under the leadership of undergraduate student Marcus L. Urann who had a desire to create a different kind of honor society: one that recognized excellence in all academic disciplines. Scott City certifies industrial site through Sunflower program

"We're at the finish line of the application for the Rural Housing Incentive District (RHID)&nbsp; application for the Frontier Apartments," Kim Rupp, Hays finance director, announced at the beginning of Thursday night's public hearing during the city commission meeting.

The commission previously adopted a <a href="https://hayspost.com/posts/90c93372-2fbd-46d9-9156-f1b1352c38cf">resolution </a>with findings of the need for middle-income housing. The Kansas Secretary of Commerce approved of the RHID creation in mid-October.&nbsp;The process is detailed, with many steps required by state law and the city's economic development policy.

Atchison developer Justin Pregont, Frontier Apartments, LLC, plans to rehab the former St. Joseph School, 210 W. 13th Street, into high quality apartments for moderate income renters.&nbsp;

"The last remaining domino for us to really kick it into high gear is figure out whether or not we've received a moderate-income housing award through the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation," Pregont said, "... and whether this is going to go forward immediately or whether we're going to push the pause button and try again next year to receive that same pot of money."&nbsp;&nbsp;

Frontier Apartments has applied for a state $360,000 Moderate-Income Housing Grant (MIHG) from the state. Applications have also been made for state and federal historic tax credits for the limestone structure built in 1908 and listed in the National Register of Historic Places.&nbsp;

Pregont told commissioners he has "some level of optimism" that there seems to some bipartisan momentum in the state legislature for expanding the moderate housing program.&nbsp;

"The city of Hays and Ellis County have never received an award through the (MIHG) program.

"I think we put together a great application. I hope we can get that award."

If that doesn't happen by the end of the year, Pregont pledged to resubmit the application for 2022 funding.

"I am anticipating positive news, but in the event that we don't, don't be disappointed. We'll be back next time around. If it doesn't come to be this time, I'm really confident that it would be next time."

The developer estimates that approximately $1.78 million of the total&nbsp;$2.18 million project costs are RHID-eligible expenses under state law and the city’s economic development policy. The RHID would generate approximately $450,000 in incremental property tax revenues over the 20-year term of the RHID.

"Our design plan is about 40 percent finished." Pregont said. "We've developed a really good relationship with Paul-Wertenberger Construction of Hays to be the contractor on that project and we went and visited Horizon Appliances this afternoon to get that process going."

The development encompasses an adaptive reuse and historic preservation project in downtown Hays featuring eight one-bedroom units averaging 770 square feet, and four two-bedroom units averaging 1,000 square feet.

"We're just excited at this prospect," said Sandy Jacobs, mayor. "Thank you for your collaboration," Pregont added.&nbsp;

After closing the public hearing, commissioners unanimously approved an ordinance establishing the Frontier Apartments RHID, adopting the development plan and authorizing execution of the development agreement.

The RHID will be created unless the Hays USD 489 Board of
Education or the Ellis County Commission adopts a resolution
in opposition within 30 days after the public hearing.

A $147,984 construction engineering agreement was approved with Kirkham Michael Engineers, Ellsworth, related to reconstruction of south Vine Street from just south of 13th Street to the south city limit.

In July 2019, Hays received a $1 million Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) City Connecting Link Improvement Program (CCLIP) grant for the project .

The KDOT project is estimated to cost nearly $4 million with construction to begin in the spring.&nbsp;&nbsp;

After input from residents and the Hays Police Department, commissioners approved five speed limit changes as recommended by city staff.

They are located on 32nd/33rd Street, south Main Street,
east and west 8th Street, and east 13th Street.&nbsp;The school zone speed limit in front of Hays High School will also change from 20 to 25 mph.

Commissioner Shaun Musil voted against the ordinance citing disapproval of the speed increase on south Main.

"I know you say it's wide enough." Musil said. "I'm just conscious of all the housing down there and us wanting to increase it, along with the pool and a kid-related business that's going to be down there. I just don't think it's a good idea."

Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler said he'd had no feedback from local drivers about the changes.&nbsp;&nbsp;

* Approved a pool reimbursement request of $42,497 from the Hays Recreation Commission for the 2021 municipal pool operating loss. * Approved minor updates to the Comprehensive Financial Management Policy adopted in * Approved a resolution authorizing the City Manager Toby Dougherty to execute agreements related to the recent national opioid settlement action. Cities in Kansas will receive 25 percent of any settlement funds the state receives. * Heard a progress report of recent activities by city departments. * Were advised of upcoming community events during December.

Commissioner Ron Mellick was absent from the meeting. The other commissioners thanked Mellick for his 12 years of service as a city commissioner, with Jacobs calling him "one of the best public servants I've been around in terms of being informed, making sure he's connected with all the projects that the city is doing."&nbsp;

A 15-minute executive session was called at the end of the meeting by City Manager Toby Dougherty to discuss property acquisition. No action was taken.

Cities in Kansas will receive 25 percent of any settlement funds the state receives. * Heard a progress report of recent activities by city departments. * Were advised of upcoming community events during December.Commissioner Ron Mellick was absent from the meeting. The other commissioners thanked Mellick for his 12 years of service as a city commissioner, with Jacobs calling him "one of the best public servants I've been around in terms of being informed, making sure he's connected with all the projects that the city is doing."&nbsp;A 15-minute executive session was called at the end of the meeting by City Manager Toby Dougherty to discuss property acquisition. No action was taken.

Hays High School had a school-wide discussion session Wednesday about the use of social media, specifically Instagram after several questionable Instagram accounts came to light using Hays High School in the hash tag.

Principal Shawn Henderson, in a letter home to parents and a video presented to students, explained that harassment on social media was a violation of school policy and possibly a violation of the law.

Sites shared photos of bad parking in the Hays High parking lot, included the hashtag bad hair day, and included photos of students sleeping in class. One site included pictures allegedly taken in the boys bathroom, mostly of people's feet.

"The most common thing we heard from our students is that it's supposed to be funny," Henderson said, "so one of the questions that we asked is do you understand the difference between laughing at and laughing with.

"Things that are OK with me and my friends in a close-knit group is different than posting it on social media for the whole world to see. Trying to help students see that balance point is challenging."

The accounts were reported by a combination of teachers, students and parents.

No disciplinary action has been taken against any students at this time, Henderson said. He said Thursday in an interview with the Hays Post his hope was by prompting discussions, the students responsible would take the accounts down.

"Our hope was that in Hays last night that there were parents and students having these conversations," Henderson said Thursday, "families and students having conversations, 'If you're involved in this, stop. It's hurtful to people.' "

In his video, Henderson encouraged those who created the Instagram to take them down. He urged students to not contribute to such accounts and to not like or share content from the accounts.

During Pride Time on Wednesday, teachers also engaged students in discussions about the use of social media and how it might harm others.

Once the high school determined that the problem was community wide, Henderson said he felt he had to engage teachers, students and send correspondence out to families

"What I mean by community-wide is there are so many kids who have access to Instagram, and it's out there, and it's so fast," Henderson said. "So many times it's impersonal, but at the same time so personal."

Each teacher at Hays High has a chart in their room that notes what level of use students can have of their cellphone during class. Red means none. The cell phone needs to be put away.

Yellow is some use if it is not intrusive, and green means phones can be actively used in classroom activities. The students are also allowed to use their phones freely during their lunch periods.

HHS officials have considered further restricting the use of cell phones during school hours. 

"We have given them some autonomy to have their cellphones at lunch, which is a change from years past. They have the autonomy to do that," Henderson said. 

"What I intentionally wanted was for those students to grapple with the idea 'Do the decisions I'm making impact my level of autonomy?'"

Hays Middle School Principal Tom Albers said the school was working with the high school and continuing to educate its students about appropriate use of social media. 

HMS has the same harassment and bullying policies as the high school.

He said he hopes the social media issues do not filter down to the middle school, but acknowledged misuse of social media was problem among youth across the nation. 

"We deal with it when we hear about it," Albers said.

HMS does not allow the use of cellphones during school hours.

As the high school moves forward, officials plan to implement a social and emotional curriculum at the school. Other schools in the district have already implemented social and emotional learning programs to meet state accreditation goals. 

School officials are considering incorporating these lessons during Pride Time or creating Mindset Monday activities.

This is a goal school officials have been working on since the start of the school year and hope to have in place next semester, Henderson said.

"When we start to talk about the social emotional wellness of our students and we start to talk about what they see and what they have access to," Henderson said, "I think that is a conversation and a collaboration with everyone who cares for and works with kids. ...

"They're faced with a lot, and they see a lot. We have to come together to have these conversations, sometimes difficult conversations."

In addition to providing holiday shopping safety tips, the Hays Police Department is encouraging residents to also have an "attitude of kindness and patience when out and about in the community, and enjoy the Christmas season in Hays."&nbsp;

"Expect long lines and delays," said Detective J.B. Burkholder. "We ask that you go into the season with the attitude of being considerate of other shoppers inside the stores, as well as drivers on the road.

"This year has presented many challenges and setbacks, and we encourage you to keep that in mind as you deal with other people, customers and clerks."&nbsp;

The No. 1 safe-shopping tip offered by Burkholder is to conceal your Christmas gift purchases.&nbsp;

"Nothing is more enticing to a thief than a car full of bags&nbsp;that are clearly visible. We ask that you lock these in your trunk and keep them out of sight," Burkholder recommended. "An easy target is one thieves commonly look for."

You should also protect your belongings while shopping.

"Women should keep your purses close to your person, and not put them in a shopping cart or leave them unattended."

Men carrying a wallet or cash should put it in a front pocket and limit the cash to what is needed for a specific store.&nbsp;

Burkholder recommends instead to use a debit or credit card. Any losses or illicit use are easier to replace than stolen cash.&nbsp;

"If those cards are stolen, report them as soon as possible to your credit card company and to the police department."&nbsp;

Area stores will be filled with more shoppers than usual.&nbsp;

Park in a well-lit public area and to be alert to your surroundings.&nbsp;

"If something doesn't feel right, call 911 or the police department. Officers can come out and assist you in any way we can," he said.

Burkholder said the police department's "No. 1 asset is the citizens that reside in Hays, as we all work together to make this the best holiday season ever."

🎥 Hays PD: 'Patience is part of safe holiday shopping'

Last week brought a rocky two-day meeting of the Legislature’s Special Committee on Education. The purpose was to examine the decline in student achievement as shown on state assessment scores.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Nevertheless, almost an entire day was spent on testimony about Critical Race Theory.

Republicans, special interest group leaders and parents held forth that CRT is currently being taught across the state.&nbsp; This despite the Kansas State Board of Education’s widely publicized stand that CRT is not part of state curriculum standards—a viewpoint recently praised by the nationally recognized Aspen Institute Director of Education and Society Programs Danielle Gonzales.&nbsp;&nbsp;

While most speakers before the committee agreed that CRT as a theory to explain all of history was not being taught in Kansas, many pointed to instruction that focused on equity, social-emotional learning and diversity as actually promoting CTR.&nbsp; Moreover, some speakers challenged school library offerings based on language and graphics in books dealing with race, gender or sexuality.

The testimony, which can be read at Kansas Legislative Sessions Website, is troubling.&nbsp;&nbsp; Are the passionate reactions from parents on target or simply viewpoints formed by a national effort by Republicans to shore up their conservative base and become the party for parents?&nbsp;&nbsp;

Or did the parents’ comments validate perspectives of Libertarians who simply don’t believe in public education?

Or were they voices of those who wish to lay the groundwork for dismantling public education under the guise of state-funded vouchers/scholarships to private schools?&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Perhaps none of the above—a review by Education Week reported that 42 percent of respondents to a Newsweek poll had never heard of CRT.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Whether the parents’ testimony represents squeaky-wheel complaints of a vocal minority or not, the incensed advocates who testified shouldn’t be viewed as representing Kansas public opinion.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Education Week review confirmed only one common finding—parents and the public are uncertain and confused about the teaching of history and racism.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Yet when this much fervent concern is raised, KSDE and the Legislature have an obligation to let the public know that the complaints are heard, understood and will be addressed.&nbsp;

Dismissing the public’s concerns about how race and gender are taught could result in loss of creditability for both KSDE and the legislature’s education committee.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Overall, committee testimony pointed to major underlying issues:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

At the end of the second day, there was no consensus on any of the above.&nbsp; However, the committee did circle back to its original purpose and agreed to a meeting of KSDE and legislators after the start of the next legislative session in January to begin working together on improving reading achievement in the early grades.&nbsp; It’s a good place to start on a difficult journey.&nbsp;

INSIGHT KANSAS: Parents speak out at education hearing

Growing up in western Kansas, Tori Gleason knew that the area faces the same kind of health care challenges as most of rural America: a shortage of providers, technology lags, resources strained by population shifts.

So when she became a chiropractor, Gleason returned to share her skill set.

Gleason, who is transgender, often feels like she doesn’t belong in the rural western Kansas town of Goodland. But that doesn’t stop her from trying to make a positive difference here.

“I want to give back to my community and make things different because I have a passion for rural health,” she said.

Since being outed by a medical provider some 4 1/2 years ago, she has faced both harsh opposition and strong support from within the community.

“It was before I was ready to tell my story. It’s frustrating when somebody beats us to the punch, and especially when they don’t do it the way you would have done it.”

She also felt that she’d lost control of some part of her identity. Gleason noted that she was undergoing counseling but had not begun the physical process of transitioning at the time.

“I’ve had death threats, threats of violence against me,” she said. “But that is not to say all of western Kansas is like that.”

In addition to running her practice there since 2008, Gleason served on the board of Goodland Regional Medical Center, a critical access hospital, from 2011 to August of this year. Gleason believes residents of smaller communities deserve the same “health equity” as urban residents.

Now Gleason, a Master of Public Health student at KU School of Medicine-Wichita, wants to use that training to further help another marginalized population segment — the LGBTQ+ community — achieve health equity.

Along with her classes, she is taking part in several research projects into the health care experiences and needs of LGBTQ+. As a consultant, she’s worked with KU, the Masonic Cancer Alliance, American Hospital Association and other organizations on improving outcomes for that population.

Gleason said she might never have enrolled in the MPH program if not for the COVID-19 pandemic, which led KU Wichita to offer it online. Living 17 miles from the Colorado state line, with joint custody of two children, Gleason said it wouldn’t have been practical to travel back and forth to Wichita.

“The pandemic removed a barrier to me,” she said. “I’m in Mountain Time Zone, I’m so far away.”

Gleason, who’s on track to graduate in 2023, grew up in Dodge City and majored in biology at Kansas State University. She earned her doctor of chiropractic degree from Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa.

One of Gleason’s specialties is working with athletes. Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland is known for its wrestling team, and Gleason often collaborates with the program’s physician, trainer and physical therapist to “get an athlete back on the mat as soon as possible.”

“It’s a team concept. It’s a place where you check your ego at the door.”

The pandemic has also allowed Gleason to take part in research remotely that otherwise might not have been possible. She is involved in studies of several different LGBTQ+ age groups, as well as how the health care system as a whole serves that community. When it comes to research, Gleason believes there should be “nothing about us without us.”

Part of her passion for marginalized populations comes from her background growing up in Dodge City, when she found no resources or help for a young queer person. Her desire is that “kids not go through the same thing I did as a kid.”

Gleason acknowledges that living in Goodland presents challenges, as she may be the first openly transgender some residents have encountered.

But many are supportive, especially the athletes with whom she works.

“The vast majority of people under 25 are fine with it. I have high school students who will correct their parents on the proper pronouns to use.”

Living 17 miles from the Colorado state line, with joint custody of two children, Gleason said it wouldn’t have been practical to travel back and forth to Wichita.“The pandemic removed a barrier to me,” she said. “I’m in Mountain Time Zone, I’m so far away.”Gleason, who’s on track to graduate in 2023, grew up in Dodge City and majored in biology at Kansas State University. She earned her doctor of chiropractic degree from Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa.One of Gleason’s specialties is working with athletes. Northwest Kansas Technical College in Goodland is known for its wrestling team, and Gleason often collaborates with the program’s physician, trainer and physical therapist to “get an athlete back on the mat as soon as possible.”“It’s a team concept. It’s a place where you check your ego at the door.”The pandemic has also allowed Gleason to take part in research remotely that otherwise might not have been possible. She is involved in studies of several different LGBTQ+ age groups, as well as how the health care system as a whole serves that community. When it comes to research, Gleason believes there should be “nothing about us without us.”Part of her passion for marginalized populations comes from her background growing up in Dodge City, when she found no resources or help for a young queer person. Her desire is that “kids not go through the same thing I did as a kid.”Gleason acknowledges that living in Goodland presents challenges, as she may be the first openly transgender some residents have encountered.But many are supportive, especially the athletes with whom she works.“The vast majority of people under 25 are fine with it. I have high school students who will correct their parents on the proper pronouns to use.”

Goodland student helping LGBTQ+ community achieve health equity 

Collecting a representative silage sample is a difficult task and should involve more than just taking a few handfuls of silage from the face of the pile or the bunker silo.&nbsp; Corn silage and sorghum silages are a mixture of stover and grain.&nbsp; In some cases, small grain silages may also contain grain.&nbsp; This presence of grain in the silage creates some special challenges when obtaining a representative sample.

The best way to obtain a representative sample would be to first deface the amount of silage needed for a daily feeding.&nbsp; In an ideal setting, approximately 12inches of the entire face would be fed each day. The defaced silage should be mixed with a loader or a mixer wagon prior to sampling and feeding.

Once the silage is mixed, take a small scoop and scoop 15-20 samples from around the silage into a clean bucket.&nbsp; When scooping, try to scoop a similar amount with each scoop.&nbsp; Scooping will reduce the loss of finer particles from the samples.&nbsp; Simply grabbing a handful will generally reduce the amount of fine particles and increase the amount of the larger particles of stover.&nbsp; Next, blend the contents of the bucket by hand, rolling, or dumping on a small tarp and repeatedly lifting alternate corners of the tarp to mix the sample.&nbsp; Once the sample is mixed, if not already in a pile on a clean table, dump into a single pile and begin to quarter the sample into equal portions.&nbsp; You want to send about one pound of sample to the lab.&nbsp; So depending on the amount of material you have collected, continue to divide the sample into pie shaped portions until you have one pound of material for the sample being shipped to the lab.&nbsp; Make sure you include all the fine particles in the sample being shipped.&nbsp; An alternative method to dividing the sample into pie shaped portions would be to simply scoop 4-6 amounts into the sample bag until you have a one-pound sample, taking care to include all fines etc. in the sample.

Frequently we are asked how often one should submit samples to the lab.&nbsp; It really depends on the amount of silage you are feeding and the consistency of the silage mass that you created.&nbsp; For smaller feeding operations, once a month sampling is generally adequate as long as the silage is consistent.&nbsp; However, if the composition of the silage is variable, then more frequent sampling would be needed.&nbsp; In larger feeding operations, weekly or twice weekly sampling is recommended.&nbsp; On-farm moisture determination is recommended one to two times each week.

RUSSELL COUNTY—A Northwest Kansas woman was injured in an accident just before 8a.m. Friday in Russell County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer driven by Cynthia C. Patterson, 31, Phillipsburg was eastbound on Interstate 70 five mile east of Russell.

The SUV traveled off the roadway to the right, struck the KDOT guardrail and came to rest on the shoulder.

EMS transported Patterson to the hospital in Russell. A 3-year-old in the vehicle was not injured. Patterson was not wearing a seat belt, according to the KHP.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment on Friday reported 10 new COVID-19 cases in Ellis County had been identified since Wednesday.

On Dec. 9 at approximately 4:20 p.m., the Hays Fire Department was dispatched to a report of smoke coming from the laundry room at Midway Apartments 505 E. 20th in Hays.

Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke coming from the laundry room. Crews entered the room and found cleaning cloths in a dryer that started burning. 

A water fire extinguisher was used to extinguish the small fire. 

Firefighters removed the cleaning cloths from the dryer and carried them outside to cool them off.

Firefighters then removed the dryer from the laundry room to the outside. 

No damage was done to the building and no occupants were injured.

The fire was caused by cooking oil-soaked cloths that were not properly washed before drying. 

The Hays Fire Department would like to remind everyone that when washing these type of cleaning cloths that you use the appropriate detergent to wash the cloths to remove the oils. 

We would also like to remind everyone to have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

The Hays Fire Department, Ellis County Fire Department Company 5, Ellis County EMS, and Hays Police Department all responded.

HFD: Apartment building fire started by cooking oil soaked laundry

Fort Hays State University will recognize approximately 1,300 graduates during its third annual fall commencement Friday and Saturday, Dec. 17-18.

Graduates who have chosen to participate in person will be honored in two ceremonies on Friday at Gross Memorial Coliseum (GMC). All graduates will be recognized in two virtual ceremonies Saturday.

The ceremonies will begin on Friday for undergraduate, master’s, and Ed.S. candidates in the Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship at 8:30 a.m. Central time, followed by the College of Health and Behavioral Sciences, and the Werth College of Science, Technology, and Mathematics.

The 11 a.m. ceremony will feature the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences and the College of Education for undergraduate, master’s, and Ed.S. candidates.

Saturday’s virtual ceremonies will begin at 8 a.m. for the Ed.S. and master’s students. The undergraduate virtual ceremony will follow at 10 a.m.

All ceremonies – in-person and virtual – will be broadcast on Central time and will be located on the Tiger Media Network and the FHSU Facebook. An individual is not required to sign up for a Facebook account to view the ceremonies.

Parking lots adjacent to the coliseum typically fill up quickly, but parking is available on the main campus. In the event of inclement weather, unpaved lots near GMC will be closed, making it necessary to park on the main campus.Here are a few suggestions from the University Police to help ease the congestion:<ul>
 <li>Guests arriving for the second ceremony are encouraged to arrive no more than 15 to 30 minutes before 10 a.m. Arriving too early will result in guests being forced to park further away or face departing traffic from the first ceremony. Delaying arrival will also allow time for departing guests from the first ceremony to clear the area in preparation for the second ceremony.</li><li>Graduates driving themselves are encouraged to arrive early and park on the main part of campus and walk or take the shuttles to GMC. This will better ensure they avoid traffic congestion, get a parking spot, and arrive on time for their ceremony. Shuttles will be available both days before and after both ceremonies with the drop-off station at Gate 3.</li><li>Faculty and staff attending are also encouraged to park on the main part of campus and walk or take the shuttles to the ceremonies.</li><li>All guests are encouraged to carpool when possible. Fewer cars will ease traffic congestion and increase the amount of parking at GMC.</li><li>VIP parking is available on the west side of GMC, with handicapped parking on the east side.</li>
