Three-day weather outlook

There are lots of ways for you to be involved in the Barton County Fair!

The theme for the 2025 Barton County Fair is Barnyard Mardi Gras and it will be happening June 25-29.

 Exhibits are due to the fairgrounds for most categories on Wednesday, June 25. Our 4-H members must pre-enter their exhibits while Open Class entries can be entered online ahead of time or on-site on the 25th.

We have a couple of 4-H pre-fair judging events for Sewing &amp; Textiles, Shopping In Style, and Fiber Arts, as well as the 4-H Dog Show. However, these results will be on display in Expo II throughout the fair week.

Judging is handled a bit differently for 4-H and Open Class. Consultative judging is used to provide one-on-one feedback about project learning, and the exhibit, as an important part of the learning opportunity for the 4-H member and all members receive a ribbon on their entry. 

We use the Danish system for 4-H exhibits which defines a Purple as exemplary, a Blue as above average, a Red as average, and a White as having substantial deficiencies. For Open Class, the judge will evaluate the exhibit item and determine if it receives one of the top three placings awarded per class.

Each year, the Barton County Fair Association has several special award categories for Open Class which tie to the theme. Be on the lookout for the announcements about these and all Open Class opportunities. Open Class offers a youth (16 and younger), Adult (17-65), Senior (65 and better), and a Professional class for those who teach about or make a practice of selling their work.

Come join us June 25-29 to watch the livestock shows, check out 4-H and Open Class exhibits, listen to a concert, share a meal with friends, and support all ages across our community as they showcase their interests from art to woodworking!

Vocalists Kris Vox, Dave Moody, and Patrick Stone lead the band through a 2+ hour, mind-blowing, and drop-dead accurate homage to some of the biggest arena acts in the world. Van Halen, KISS, Motley Crue, Queen, Journey, and Aerosmith are but a few of the acts fans will see brought to life. 

The Hairball stage becomes an entirely new rock concert before your very eyes countless times throughout the night. The motor that drives the Hairball dragster consists of HBK on the electric bass, Billy on the drums, and Happy on the lead guitar. 

These rock &amp; roll soldiers pride themselves on nailing some of the most memorable licks and chops of all time, while adding their own style and flair that they've cultivated over decades of tireless performing. This isn’t a side job. These guys eat, sleep, and breathe Rock &amp; Roll! 

This year finds Hairball celebrating its 25th year of rocking hundreds of thousands of people across the country. The board of directors for The Bricks in Downtown Hays announces the cancellation of the 2025 Brews on the Bricks&nbsp;event, originally scheduled for Saturday, June 14, 2025.

This decision, while difficult, comes during a period of organizational transition as we begin the search for our next executive director.

During this time, our focus will be on strengthening internal operations and aligning strategic priorities to best serve Downtown Hays moving forward.

For the past eight years, Brews on the Bricks&nbsp;has been a cherished tradition, made possible by the dedication of our attendees, sponsors, volunteers, brewers and vendors. We extend our sincere thanks for your role in making the event a continued success.

All ticket holders will be contacted directly and issued full refunds.

The Fort Tavern and Patio Bar in Hays announced it will close, and the facility has been sold to a new owner.

The Fort posted on Facebook today, "Thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout the 4+ years we’ve been open! We have sold the business to an owner with a slightly different vision. 

"If you have any gift cards, now is the time to use them, and if you’ve enjoyed the VR, axe throwing or bowling, please come see us before May 19.

"We will be taking care of any bookings from now until May 19 as usual. All other reservations after that will need to be communicated with the new owner! Thank you all again for the wonderful years we’ve been here!"

The Fort bar in Hays to close, sold to new owner

RUSSELL — "Sod and Stubble," the motion picture based on the classic pioneer story, has come to theaters across the nation and on this Friday, May 9 it will premiere at the Dream Theater in Russell on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and at 2 and 6 p.m. on Sunday.

"Sod and Stubble" tells the story of the Ise family who homesteaded in Osborne County Kansas in the 1870s and battled through the many challenges of homesteading on the Kansas plains. The original story was written by John Ise in the 1930s with the help and remembrances of his mother Rosa Ise. In the 1990s, Von Rothenberger added over 150 pages of additional text to the new release. 

Now, the story of Henry and Rosie Ise comes to life on the screen through the work of an award winning cast and crew.

The film features Bailey Chase (Longmire, Homestead), Dodie Brown (American Horror Story), Barry Corbin (Lonesome Dove, No Country for Old Men), Mary McDonough (The Waltons), Buck Taylor (Yellowstone, Tombstone, Gunsmoke), Darby Hinton (Daniel Boone, Texas Rising), Rudy Ramos (Yellowstone, High Chaparral), Wyatt McCrea, R.W. Hampton, Mark Mannette, Delno Ebie and more. The film was written and directed by Ken Spurgeon.

"Sod and Stubble" was filmed in Downs, Wichita and El Dorado, Kansas.

It was produced by New Albany Films, Sod and Stubble LLC and distributed by Purdie Distribution.

Director Ken Spurgeon will be on hand this Friday as will other members of the cast and crew.

 </figure>SubmittedRUSSELL — "Sod and Stubble," the motion picture based on the classic pioneer story, has come to theaters across the nation and on this Friday, May 9 it will premiere at the Dream Theater in Russell on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and at 2 and 6 p.m. on Sunday."Sod and Stubble" tells the story of the Ise family who homesteaded in Osborne County Kansas in the 1870s and battled through the many challenges of homesteading on the Kansas plains. The original story was written by John Ise in the 1930s with the help and remembrances of his mother Rosa Ise. In the 1990s, Von Rothenberger added over 150 pages of additional text to the new release. Now, the story of Henry and Rosie Ise comes to life on the screen through the work of an award winning cast and crew.The film features Bailey Chase (Longmire, Homestead), Dodie Brown (American Horror Story), Barry Corbin (Lonesome Dove, No Country for Old Men), Mary McDonough (The Waltons), Buck Taylor (Yellowstone, Tombstone, Gunsmoke), Darby Hinton (Daniel Boone, Texas Rising), Rudy Ramos (Yellowstone, High Chaparral), Wyatt McCrea, R.W. Hampton, Mark Mannette, Delno Ebie and more.
