&nbsp;TOPEKA — The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has rescinded a boil water advisory for the city of La Crosse&nbsp;public water supply system located in Rush&nbsp;County. The advisory was issued&nbsp;because of a line break, which caused a loss of pressure in the system.  Failure to maintain adequate pressure may result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Public water suppliers in Kansas take all measures necessary to notify customers quickly after a system failure or shutdown. Regardless of whether it’s the supplier or KDHE that announces a boil water advisory, KDHE will issue the rescind order following testing at a certified laboratory.&nbsp;

Laboratory testing samples collected from La Crosse&nbsp;indicate no evidence of bacteriological contamination and all other conditions that placed the system at risk of contamination are deemed by KDHE officials to be resolved.  &nbsp;&nbsp;

Grow Hays Inc. is accepting candidate applications for board of director positions that will open in 2023, beginning Jan. 1. There will be four open positions the board will be looking to fill. Self-nominations are encouraged.

Prospective candidates must be willing to serve a three-year term. The Grow Hays Board meets a minimum of once a month, on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 3:30 p.m. Board members are occasionally asked to serve on additional committees, which meet as required.

LOGAN — The Hansen Museum Continuing Education Program is pleased to welcome certified Bob Ross instructor Sandy Seamone to teach two Joy of Painting classes on Oct. 22 and 23. On Saturday, Oct. 22, the class will paint “Winter Barn,” and on Sunday, Oct. 23, “Poinsettias.” 

Classes will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.&nbsp; in the Hansen Museum Community Room, Logan with an hour-long lunch break each day.

The Bob Ross method is designed to be a fun and simple way to paint. Seamone learned from the happy tree guy himself. Implementing the soft-spoken, supportive ways of her mentor, Seamone creates a classroom with a relaxing and light-hearted atmosphere.

All painting supplies are provided, and no previous experience is necessary. Young and old alike will enjoy the camaraderie of these classes. Students need only bring a roll of paper towels.

Hays International Travel Club sets bake sale, barbecue for Saturday

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29,&nbsp; the Ellis County Drug Enforcement Unit (El Co DEU) will be participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. 

This bi-annual event allows for the public to anonymously dispose of old, unused, unwanted, or no longer needed medications. 

The event will be held in the north parking lot of the Ellis County Law Enforcement Center, 105 W. 12th.

In April, 7,196 pounds of medications were collected in the state of Kansas, and since the beginning of this event, a total of 233,374 pounds of medications have been collected across the state and disposed of. 

The Ellis County Drug Enforcement Unit is encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting.

Items that will be accepted are tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs. Prescription medications can be disposed of in the original container or placed in a Ziploc bag.

Liquids (including intravenous solutions), syringes and other sharps, and illicit drugs will not be accepted.

As we approach the November 8 election, I want to thank our county election officials and poll workers
for their tireless work to ensure the security and integrity of our elections.


Second, I want to remind voters they have multiple options for how to cast their ballot: in-person on
Election Day, advance in-person, or advance by mail ballot. Voters can preview their ballot and verify
their polling location at VoteKansas.gov.


Beginning on October 19, advance in-person voting may begin and advance by mail ballots are
transmitted to voters who requested a ballot. Advance in-person voting schedules vary by county. Voters
may locate their county’s advance in-person voting schedule by contacting their county election office.


Voters who requested an advance by mail ballot must return their ballot to the county election office by
7:00 p.m. on Election Day. Ballots that are returned by postal mail must be postmarked by 7:00 p.m. on

'Hell's Aquarium': Science Café scheduled for Monday

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued a boil water advisory for the city of La Crosse&nbsp;public water supply system located in Rush&nbsp;County.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Customers should observe the following precautions until further notice:&nbsp;

The advisory took effect on&nbsp;Oct. 18&nbsp;and will remain in effect until the conditions that placed the system at risk of bacterial contamination are resolved.&nbsp;KDHE&nbsp;officials issued&nbsp;the advisory because&nbsp;of a line break resulting in a loss of pressure in the&nbsp;distribution&nbsp;system.  Failure to maintain adequate pressure may result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination. &nbsp;

Regardless of whether the public water supplier or Kansas Department of Health and Environment announced a boil water advisory, only KDHE can issue the rescind order following testing at a certified laboratory.&nbsp;
