Despite easing drought conditions in much of western Kansas, Ellis County still has a moderate drought, according to the Kansas Drought Monitor, released today.

The monitor shows moderate drought conditions in an area from Rush and Barton counties to the Nebraska border.

No precipitation is in the forecast for Hays through Wednesday, with highs in the upper 50s on Saturday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather report from the K-State Ag Research Center says Hays has received .69 inches of rain this month and&nbsp;24.11 inches year to date, which is above the yearly average of&nbsp;22.94 inches of precipitation.

Hays received almost 4 inches of rain in November but experienced dry conditions earlier in the fall.

Hays native Leslie Hauck III has been promoted to brigadier general in the United States Air Force. He is the director of Electromagnetic Spectrum Superiority Headquarters for the U.S. Air Force stationed at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia.

His overseas assignments have included South Korea, Germany and Afghanistan.&nbsp;

Hays native promoted to brigadier general in U.S. Air Force

MIAMI COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating the death of a juvenile in rural Miami County, Kansas.

Just before 3p.m. Wednesday, emergency personnel responded to a death investigation in the 22800 block of Lewis Drive, located in rural Miami County, according to a media release from the sheriff's office.

While on scene, additional resources were requested to assist with the investigation. One juvenile was pronounced deceased at the scene, while another juvenile was taken into custody.

The sheriff's office released no additional details.&nbsp; Check the Post for more information as it becomes available.

A second doctor has sued HaysMed, arguing the noncompete clause in his contract is too restrictive.

<a href="https://hayspost.com/posts/b34af9aa-1485-42c1-a272-afe7c74a36fb">He joins Dr. Jerod Grove, a general surgeon, who has also resigned from the hospital and sued the hospital to prevent the medical center from enforcing a noncompete clause in his contract.</a>

Rodriguez, who grew up in Goodland, expressed in the lawsuit a desire to continue to live and practice in western Kansas. Both Grove and Rodriguez's contracts would prevent the doctors from practicing within a 110-mile radius of Hays, which encompasses about 80% of western Kansas.

Both physicians have cited issues with the hospital administration and concerns about the quality of care at the medical center.

Rodriguez's lawsuit cited specific issues with care, including long wait times for crucial testing and treatment of cancer patients.

It has been taking up to six weeks to get insurance prior authorization to initiate chemotherapy, three weeks to get CTs and three to four weeks to obtain PET scans and MRIs, the lawsuit said.

"These delays had never been the case at Hays Med before, and it is&nbsp;definitely not the standard of care at our larger institutions in Kansas," the lawsuit said. "Delays in obtaining tests or starting treatment can have a negative&nbsp;impact on patient outcomes."

Rodriguez said in his lawsuit his employment was "unbearable," forcing him to resign from his position.

The lawsuit says HaysMed has been unable to maintain physicians, specifically within the cancer center.

He was hired in July 2015 with&nbsp;plans to expand the practice to four doctors. However, those plans rapidly changed when both of his longtime partners left the facility within six months of his starting, the lawsuit said.

The other hematologist/oncologist left after 15 years of service at HaysMed because of direct conflicts with the administration, the lawsuit said.&nbsp;She uprooted her entire family and moved back to the Kansas City metro area primarily because she was unable to work locally, the lawsuit said.

HaysMed was unable to recruit physicians, according to the lawsuit. The lawsuit said Rodriguez used his personal contacts and reputation to recruit and successfully sign doctors to work in oncology at the hospital.

Rodriguez's colleagues Dr. Anthony Accurso and&nbsp;Dr. Matthew Mallory both left Hays Med because of direct&nbsp;conflicts with the administration, the lawsuit alleges.

The lawsuit says traveling physicians could not fill the vacuum left by the two doctors.

Rodriguez says in the suit that for three weeks, he was the only oncologist working in a practice normally staffed by three or four doctors.

Rodriguez claims in the suit he was so overwhelmed by the workload that he was evaluated in the emergency room for a possible heart attack. He was diagnosed with an ulcer that he attributed to stress.&nbsp;

Rodriguez is one of only three oncologists in western Kansas.&nbsp;

According to the lawsuit, he covers about 5,000 patients through his practice.

According to Grove's lawsuit, HaysMed has lost 12 physicians, two certified registered nurse anesthetists, and three midlevel providers. None of these have remained in the region and provide services to the residents of the state's western half.

Services impacts include cardiology, urology, orthopedics, OB/GYN, hospitalists, oncology, nephrology and general family medicine, the lawsuit said.

The lawsuit alleges HaysMed is using its noncompete clauses to try to maintain a monopoly in health care in western Kansas.

The American Medical Association’s Council on Ethics and Judicial&nbsp;Affairs discourages noncompete agreements in physicians’ employment&nbsp;contracts because they can potentially negatively affect patient care, the lawsuit said.

The lawsuit argues barring Rodriguez from practicing in western Kansas will result in patients waiting much longer or traveling longer distances for care, which could both result in adverse health outcomes, including death.

The lawsuit says HaysMed's attempt to maintain a monopoly could increase patients' insurance costs by giving HaysMed a better bargaining position with insurance companies.

The lawsuit also alleges HaysMed administrators may be using noncompete clauses in contracts to better position the hospital in the case of a potential sale.

"Upon information and belief, Hays Med has, for various reasons, been&nbsp;exploring the possibility of entering into either a sale, merger or other&nbsp;business relationship with another hospital system as it has been&nbsp;operating with negative returns for a number of years. In order to get the best price possible, upon information and belief," the lawsuit said.

"HaysMed is attempting to retain its providers, including physicians, nurses and other staff, in order to ensure it retains a larger value in the instance of a sale or re-negotiation of its insurance payment rates," the lawsuit said.

The lawsuit argues HaysMed would not be harmed if Rodriguez was allowed to continue practicing medicine in western Kansas. HaysMed is aware of Dr. Rodriguez’s resignation and has 90 days to find a suitable substitute. 

"This&nbsp;is ample time to mitigate their damages, and it is their responsibility to&nbsp;ensure continuity of care at their hospital as they have reasonable notice of &nbsp;Rodriguez's&nbsp;departure," the lawsuit said.

Rodriguez states in his lawsuit he has been unable to negotiate with another hospital in western Kansas because HaysMed has stated it will enforce his noncompete clause.

Grove signed a contract with Greeley County Hospital. <a href="https://hayspost.com/posts/ac65c186-e3de-4a74-af00-f681eacbcca2">HaysMed has countersued both Grove and Greeley County Hospital to stop Grove from practicing at the hospital in Greeley County.</a>

Rodriguez has requested an injunction allowing him to continue to practice in western Kansas and is seeking unspecified damages to be determined at trial.

HaysMed issued a statement on Rodriguez's lawsuit Wednesday afternoon.&nbsp;

"We are aware of Dr. Rodriguez’s complaint and are currently reviewing the details. We do not agree with the allegations presented and intend to address this matter through the proper legal channels, " the statement said.

"Noncompete agreements are standard practice in health care and provide assurance to our patients that the hospital and its clinics have the medical staff and expertise to provide for their oftentimes complex medical needs.

"HaysMed remains dedicated to providing specialty care for the residents of Hays and the region, just as we have for many decades," the statement said.

Second doctor sues HaysMed over noncompete clause in contract

In 2019, the city of Hays purchased a 90-acre tract of greenfield property immediately northeast of Interstate 70, Exit 161, for development opportunities.

During Thursday's work session, city commissioners will hear a proposed award for engineering services for water/sewer main extensions under I-70, abutting street/intersection improvements and internal infrastructure improvements in that acreage.

The low bid is from&nbsp;Kaw Valley Engineering, Salina, for $118,750.

In 2022, the city hired RDG Planning and Design to conduct a market analysis and conceptual rendering of the property. It includes commercial, office and residential development, along with walking trails, public art and open space.

There is no specific development plan at this time, said Jarrod Kuckelman, Hays management analyst.

"There was a concept feasibility study put together of the acreage and what could fit out there on that property. It highlighted the goals of what the commissioners would like the property utilized for," Kuckelman said.

"That study is frequently shared with developers who are looking for a spot in Hays."

Two other bid recommendations will be heard Thursday.

Jeff Boyle, parks director, will discuss the east multi-use connector paths. It will provide the necessary links between the existing path, which ends at 22nd Street just south of HaysMed, and the new path, which will connect 41st Street and Hall to the Sternberg Museum.

The total low bid for both connector paths is $231,616 from T&amp;T Builders, Hays.&nbsp;Once all these new paths are constructed, there will be about five miles of multi-use path connecting the north and east sides of town.

Jeff Crispin, director of water resources, will discuss the demolition of obsolete structures at the water reclamation and reuse facility, 755 General Custer Road.

Three clarifiers were abandoned when the facility was upgraded between 2017 and 2019 to meet the Kansas Department of Health and Environment's new permit requirements.&nbsp;

One clarifier will be kept, although its metal components will be removed. It will be used if contaminated wastewater needs to be temporarily separated.

A single bid of $191,550 was submitted by M&amp;D, Hays, and is below the budget of $200,000. 

Boyle and Roger Bixenman, Hays Recreation Commission superintendent, will discuss the 2024 financial report and attendance at the pools and the sports complex.

This year, the recreation commission's total operating loss at the Hays Aquatic Park and Wilson Pool was $50,895. An agreement between the city and HRC splits the loss between the two entities, with each paying $25,447.

Attendance at the Hays Aquatic Park increased in 2024, with 46,004 patrons visiting the pool compared to 43,204 in 2023. Wilson Pool visitation decreased to 2,653 in 2024 compared to 2,903 in 2023.&nbsp;

The Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex neted a profit of $39,883 for the rec commission in 2024.

🎥 I-70 Exit 161 city property to be linked to city infrastructure for future development  

NEW YORK (AP) — Investigators are searching for clues that could help them identify the masked gunman who&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/manhattan-shooting-death-daa1e8c8c05606197a5bd2e0242f1683">stalked and killed</a>&nbsp;the leader of one of the largest U.S. health insurance companies on a Manhattan sidewalk, then disappeared into Central Park.

UnitedHealthcare CEO&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/united-healthcare-ceo-new-york-shooting-brian-thompson-8a130e64bcab749d1a085f5a34ab8254">Brian Thompson</a>, 50, died in a dawn ambush Wednesday as he walked to the company's annual investor conference at a Hilton in Midtown, blocks from tourist draws like Radio City Music Hall and the Museum of Modern Art.

The killing, and the shooter's movements in the minutes before and afterward, were captured on some of the multitudes of security cameras present in that part of the city.

One video showed him approach Thompson from behind, level his pistol and fire several shots, barely pausing to clear a brief gun jam while the dying health executive tumbled to the pavement.

Other security cameras captured the initial stages of the gunman's escape. He was seen fleeing the block across a pedestrian plaza, then escaping on a bicycle into Central Park, where he vanished.

Police used drones, helicopters and dogs in an intense search, but the killer's whereabouts remained unknown late into the night.

New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said that while investigators had not yet established a motive, the shooting was no random act of violence.

“Many people passed the suspect, but he appeared to wait for his intended target,” Tisch said at a news conference Wednesday.

“From watching the video, it does seem that he’s proficient in the use of firearms as he was able to clear the malfunctions pretty quickly,” NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said.

Police issued several surveillance images of the man, who wore a hooded jacket and a mask that concealed most of his face and wouldn't have attracted attention on a frigid winter day. Some of the photos were taken at a Starbucks coffee shop shortly before the shooting.

The police department offered a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

“Brian was a highly respected colleague and friend to all who worked with him,” the insurer’s Minnetonka, Minnesota-based parent company, UnitedHealth Group Inc., said in a statement. "We are working closely with the New York Police Department and ask for your patience and understanding during this difficult time.”

Thompson’s wife, Paulette Thompson, told NBC News that he told her “there were some people that had been threatening him.” She didn’t have details but suggested the threats may have involved issues with insurance coverage.

Eric Werner, the police chief in the Minneapolis suburb where Thompson lived, said his department had not received any reports of threats against the executive.

Investigators recovered several 9 mm shell casings from outside the hotel and a cellphone from the alleyway through which the shooter fled. They were also searching Thompson's hotel room, interviewing his UnitedHealthcare colleagues and reviewing his social media, Kenny said.

Police initially said the shooter rode into Central Park on a bicycle from the city’s bike-share program, CitiBike. But a spokesperson for the program’s operator, Lyft, said police officials informed the company Wednesday afternoon that the bike was not from the CitiBike fleet.

Health care giant UnitedHealth Group was holding its annual meeting with investors to update Wall Street on the company's direction and expectations for the coming year. The company ended the conference early in the wake of Thompson's death.

Thompson, a father of two sons, had been with the company since 2004 and served as CEO for more than three years.

UnitedHealthcare is the largest provider of Medicare Advantage plans in the U.S. and manages health insurance coverage for employers and state and federally funded Medicaid programs.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/GovTimWalz/status/1864326551661154556">posted on the social platform X</a>&nbsp;that the state is “sending our prayers to Brian’s family and the UnitedHealthcare team.”

“This is horrifying news and a terrible loss for the business and health care community in Minnesota,” the Democrat wrote.

Search continues for suspect who gunned down health insurance CEO

KANSAS CITY —A woman has been charged with stealing packages from porches throughout the Kansas City area this past weekend, according to a statement from the Clay County, Missouri Sheriff.

Kayley Worthington, 24, of Excelsior Springs is charged with one count of felony theft and one count of felony possession of a controlled substance. She is being held in the Clay County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond. If she posts bond, one of the conditions of her bond is that she may not be within 100 feet of anyone’s porch other than her own. Additional charges against additional suspects are possible.

After seeing multiple reports on social media of packages being stolen in Liberty, Smithville, and Kansas City, North, over the weekend, Sheriff’s Office investigators began collaborating with police departments in those cities and working to identify the thieves. Their investigation led them to a home in Excelsior Springs early Monday evening, where they located Worthington and took her into custody. Deputies served a search warrant at the house and recovered 51 stolen items, as well as methamphetamine.

Detectives have so far identified nine victims. Clay County residents who had a package stolen Nov. 29 – Dec. 1 and have not yet filed a police report are encouraged to do so.

Cora Lou Ryan, age 87, of
&nbsp;Victoria, Kansas passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at her home. 

She was born May
21, 1937, on the family farm at Victoria, Kansas to Alphonse M. and Mary
(Windholz) Kuhn. She married Richard Ryan and later separated.

She was a business woman maintaining her upholster shop on her farm for over 25
years.&nbsp; She was a city clerk for the City of Victoria for 12 years, she
was the office manager for the first Victoria cable TV company, and retired
after a number of years working for Ralph Howerton Taxes and Accounting. 

Cora started the Victoria Meal Site and the Meals on Wheels
program.&nbsp; She was very active in the Victoria V.F.W. Auxiliary Post No.
1751, chaired a lot of their programs and played piano at their activities. She
served four terms on the Victoria School Board and served on the St. Fidelis
Church Committee. &nbsp;

She grew up on
the farm in Victoria and was a 1955 graduate of Victoria High School,&nbsp;a member of The Basilica of Saint Fidelis, and Victoria V.F.W. Auxiliary Post No. 1751.  She was an avid reader, she worked many years on her Volga German families genealogy, and enjoyed playing cards.&nbsp;

Cora is survived by her children, Jim Ryan and wife, Vicki, Wichita, KS; Ruth
Ryan, Wichita, KS; Sean Ryan and wife, Christy, Topeka, KS; her grandchildren,
Bryson Ryan; Logan Ryan and wife, Alora; Stacy Velleca and husband, Drew;
Brittany Ryan; Alex Ryan and wife, Jocelyn; Preston Ryan and wife, Ashley; her
great grandchildren, Laney Velleca; Cooper Velleca; Ruby Velleca; Ava Ryan; and
her sister, Alice DeHart, Renton, WA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alphonse M. and Mary Kuhn; her
sisters, Lenora Lang and husband, George; Mildred “Millie” Patterson-Goetz and

Hays Police Department arrest log, Nov. 24-30, 2024

Hays USD 489 celebrated the opening of the new Roosevelt Elementary School addition Monday night.

The addition and renovation is the first project completed under the $145 million bond issue.

Teachers worked on moving into the new space last week. Students' first day in the new addition was Monday.

"These new spaces will offer flexibility for new learning opportunities for students and staff that they've never had," Superintendent Ron Wilson said Monday night.

"While today we are celebrating the opening of a new and improved Roosevelt, we are also celebrating the beginning of something great that will occur across our district over the next two years as we continue to provide great learning space for all students and staff across our district," Wilson said, alluding to the other bond-funded projects that are in the works.

New classrooms were added to the Roosevelt to make it a four-section school, which means that it will be able to accommodate four classes of each grade, kindergarten through fifth.

Fourth- and fifth-grade students will occupy classrooms in the new addition, which also includes a gym and new library.

Previously, the school had one room used as a cafeteria, gym and auditorium, which made scheduling difficult.

A STEM teacher has been added at each elementary school. Roosevelt will now have a classroom dedicated to STEM classes.

The school board has approved the purchase of new furniture for the school, but it is on order.

Wilson thanked many people for supporting the bond issue and the construction project, including the school board, architects DLR Group and Nabholz Construction, the construction manager.

"We would also not be here today without the tremendous support of the Hays USD 489 parents," Wilson said. "... and the Hays community members who united and voted for this bond because they believed better school buildings were needed.&nbsp;

"But they also believed that better school buildings would help the Hays community thrive and survive for our future. New and improved schools will help us compete for families who will be making decisions about where they want to live and raise their families."

Wilson said new buildings do not do the work of educating students.&nbsp;

"But they no doubt will contribute to the positive experiences for our students and staff, and learning and fun will occur every day at Roosevelt for many, many years to come," he said.

Roosevelt Elementary School Principal Chris Sramek said Monday was an amazing day for the staff and students.

"Years of planning, hard work and collaboration have shown our community's commitment to education, to growth and to the potential of our students," she said.

"As our students walked through the doors this morning, I saw the sparkle in their eyes as they took in these new spaces," Sramek said. "That sparkle, the excitement, wonder and possibility reminds us all of why this project is so important."

The school is designed with the students in mind, she said.

"[It offers] spaces that inspire creativity, encourage collaboration and provide opportunities to grow in every way," Sramek said.

She said the building is its students' legacy.

"One thing you will always carry with you is this incredible memory of signing the beam that now stands as a permanent part of your school. Not many people can say they signed a piece of history—a beam that holds up walls and symbolizes the strength of this community,"&nbsp;Sramek said.

"Every time you walk through these halls, you will know that pride is literally built into the school," she said. "Students, this is for you. May this school inspire you to dream bigger, think deeper and always strive to do your best," she said.

"This investment is not just about today but about the future, about equipping our children with the tools they need to thrive in an ever-changing world. It is about creating a space where students feel valued, empowered and excited to learn. We are Roosevelt,"&nbsp;Sramek said.

&nbsp;Work is underway on the new Hays High School, which will be adjacent to the current Hays High on East 13th Street. That building is set to open in August.

The current high school will be converted into a middle school, and the middle school will be converted into an elementary school.

<a href="https://hayspost.com/posts/9c9d8521-815b-4f1d-8bf6-ddea11091306">Work on an addition at O'Loughlin Elementary School is set to begin after the first of the year.</a>

Lincoln Elementary School will close in May. <a href="https://hayspost.com/posts/1cf1f167-3d2b-4a78-9fe7-240b64b595ae">The district is working on a contract to sell the Lincoln building to developer Michael Graham, who plans to renovate the building into apartments.</a>

The district also plans to close Wilson Elementary School. Upon the closure of the Rockwell Administration Center, Wilson will likely be used for administrative offices.

 </figure><h2>Other bond projects</h2>&nbsp;Work is underway on the new Hays High School, which will be adjacent to the current Hays High on East 13th Street. That building is set to open in August.The current high school will be converted into a middle school, and the middle school will be converted into an elementary school.<a href="https://hayspost.com/posts/9c9d8521-815b-4f1d-8bf6-ddea11091306">Work on an addition at O'Loughlin Elementary School is set to begin after the first of the year.</a>Lincoln Elementary School will close in May. <a href="https://hayspost.com/posts/1cf1f167-3d2b-4a78-9fe7-240b64b595ae">The district is working on a contract to sell the Lincoln building to developer Michael Graham, who plans to renovate the building into apartments.</a>The district also plans to close Wilson Elementary School. Upon the closure of the Rockwell Administration Center, Wilson will likely be used for administrative offices.<figure>

🏀 Hays High girls' ninth in KBCA preseason poll

NEW YORK (AP) — President-elect&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/donald-trump">Donald Trump</a>&nbsp;is demanding the immediate release of Israeli hostages still being held in Gaza, saying that if they are not freed before he is sworn into office for a second term there will be “HELL TO PAY."

“Please let this TRUTH serve to represent that if the hostages are not released prior to January 20, 2025, the date that I proudly assume Office as President of the United States, there will be ALL HELL TO PAY in the Middle East, and for those in charge who perpetrated these atrocities against Humanity," Trump wrote in&nbsp;<a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/113584730902816413">a post on his Truth Social site</a>.

He added that, "Those responsible will be hit harder than anybody has been hit in the long and storied History of the United States of America. RELEASE THE HOSTAGES NOW!”

It was not immediately clear whether Trump was threatening to directly involve the U.S. military in Israel’s ongoing campaign against Hamas in Gaza. Trump allies have said he hopes there will be a ceasefire and hostage release deal before he returns to office early next year.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office declined comment. But the country's president, Isaac Herzog, welcomed Trump's comments in a social media post.

The war in Gaza began when Hamas-led militants stormed into southern Israel, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/hostages-gaza-tunnels-hamas-israel-war-d8ecb415268e911cea09518acdaf7ba2">and taking around 250 people hostage</a>&nbsp;on Oct. 7, 2023. Some 100&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/israel-gaza-hamas-war-hostages-trump-biden-7e3cd6a6f0b9cd70cced92225a31e66c">are still held inside Gaza</a>, around two-thirds believed to be alive.

Trump’s threat came hours after the Israeli government confirmed the death of Omer Neutra, a dual US--Israeli citizen, whose body is still believed to be held by Hamas in Gaza, according to the Israeli government.

Days earlier, Hamas released a hostage video of Edan Alexander, who was serving in the Israeli military when he was taken by Hamas to Gaza. Filmed under apparent duress, Alexander calls on Trump to work to negotiate for his freedom and that of the remaining Hamas hostages.

The Biden administration is mounting a last-ditch effort to try to restart talks between Israel and Hamas now that it has brokered a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. But the administration has said that Hamas has yet to show a willingness to reengage in negotiations and that the group isn’t concerned for its own lives or the lives of Gaza civilians.

Trump threatens Hamas with 'all hell to pay' over hostages

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Dana Dimel, who spent 20 years as a part of Bill Snyder’s K-State coaching staff, passed away Tuesday at the age of 62, his family announced. He is survived by his wife, Julie, and children, Winston and Josey.

Dimel, who spent the 2024 season on former Wildcat assistant Bret Bielema’s staff at Illinois, served three stints on Snyder's staff at K-State following an All-America playing career as an offensive tackle for the Wildcats from 1984-86.

He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant in Manhattan in 1987-88 leading into eight seasons (1989-96) as an assistant coach. He returned to K-State for one season in 2005 and then returned to K-State for the third time and spent nine seasons (2009-17) as the program's offensive coordinator and running backs/tight ends coach.

Overall Dimel was a part of 12 bowl teams during 19 seasons in Manhattan. The Wildcats posted an 11-win season (2012) with a Big 12 Championship, two 10-win campaigns (1995 and 2011) and five nine-win seasons (1993, 1994, 1996, 2014, and 2016) during that span, and finished in the top-25 of the BCS and CFP rankings on three occasions – 2011 (No. 8 BCS), 2012 (No. 5 BCS), and 2014 (No. 11 CFP).

Dimel, a Columbus, Ohio, native, compiled the most wins of any active offensive coordinator in college football from 2011-17 (61) and was a part of eight straight bowl appearances.&nbsp;Overall, in his 32 seasons as a head or assistant coach, Dimel mentored 37 players who went on to play in the NFL.

In addition to his time at K-State, Dimel had successful head coaching stops at Wyoming (1997-1999), Houston (2000-2002) and UTEP (2018-2023).

The Wildcats posted an 11-win season (2012) with a Big 12 Championship, two 10-win campaigns (1995 and 2011) and five nine-win seasons (1993, 1994, 1996, 2014, and 2016) during that span, and finished in the top-25 of the BCS and CFP rankings on three occasions – 2011 (No. 8 BCS), 2012 (No. 5 BCS), and 2014 (No. 11 CFP).Dimel, a Columbus, Ohio, native, compiled the most wins of any active offensive coordinator in college football from 2011-17 (61) and was a part of eight straight bowl appearances.&nbsp;Overall, in his 32 seasons as a head or assistant coach, Dimel mentored 37 players who went on to play in the NFL.In addition to his time at K-State, Dimel had successful head coaching stops at Wyoming (1997-1999), Houston (2000-2002) and UTEP (2018-2023).Bill Snyder “Obviously, we are very saddened by the passing of Dana.
