JOHNSON COUNTY —Members of the Olathe Fire Department welcomed home a portion of Kansas Task Force 1. The group, including three from Olathe helped in Florida and North Carolina after Hurricane Helene. Others in the group were from the Junction City Fire Department, the Kansas Fire Marshall's office and Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center. 

The Task Force left Kansas on September 24 from Olathe and Wichita. The Kansas Division of Emergency Management received a request from Florida and the task force was sent as part of an Emergency Management Assistance Compact, which is a multistate, mutual aid agreement that facilitates interstate assistance in response and recovery operations during a disaster.

The team conducted search and rescue operations. Their objective was to Search for and rescue individuals, provide basic life support (BLS) medical care, transport humans and animals to the nearest location for secondary air or land transport, provide shore-based and boat-based water rescue, provide animal rescues, and support helicopter and urban search and rescue in water environments.&nbsp;

In accordance with the EMAC agreement, Kansas will be reimbursed for cost associated with the deployment.

Fort Hays Tech | North Central celebrates record number of scholarships awarded

As part of the 150th Anniversary Celebration of Rush County, there will be a vintage baseball game on October 12, 2024 in La Crosse. The Historic Fort Hays Post Nine team will be traveling to La Crosse to take on the Next Generation Loretto Bluejays. The game will be played following the rules of 1869.

The Fort Hays Post Nine is a vintage baseball team of Historic Fort Hays. The club formed in 2017 and suits up with vintage style uniforms and equipment following the rules of 1869. The team has played games with vintage teams from Wichita, Topeka and Denver as well as the Hays Larks Alumni and the Hays City 9.

The Next Generation Loretto Bluejays team is composed of residents of Rush County including descendants of players’ families from the original Loretto Bluejays, an early 20th-century semi-professional baseball team from the town of Loretto in northeastern Rush County. In the 1920s, the team was simply known as the “Urban Team” because most of the team were descendants of the Urban family, one of the founding families of the Volga-German settlement. Later, the team became known as the Loretto Bluejays and played throughout the state of Kansas. The team won numerous championships and defeated teams from much larger communities including Fort Hays State Normal School (Fort Hays State University.)&nbsp;

Loretto was founded in 1912 as a breakaway settlement from the town of Pfeifer. Members of Holy Cross Church in Pfeifer, who lived just over the line in Rush County, petitioned the diocese to start their own church, St. Mary Help of Christians, four and one-half miles south of Pfeifer. Adam S. Urban and Stephen S. Urban each donated five acres of land for the townsite; Martin Urban gave one acre for a cemetery; and Joseph Urban donated land for a church, parsonage, and school. From this, the town of Illinois, renamed Loretto a year later, was born.

By the late 1950s, Loretto became well known for being the smallest community in the state to have a lighted baseball field. With a population of only around 40, attendance at local games could reach into the hundreds. As a result, Loretto was awarded district tournaments.&nbsp;

One of the most famous people to play for the Loretto team was Romanus “Monty” Basgall. Monty Basgall, a Bison High School graduate, went on to become a professional baseball player, manager, and scout. He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1948-49 and 1951. After working in the Pirates organization in the 1950s, he moved to the Los Angeles Dodgers as a scout, minor league infield instructor, and eventually Double-A manager. He then became a coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers for 14 seasons from 1973 to 1986. Basgall helped lead the Dodgers to win the 1981 World Series.

This will be the first time a team has worn a Loretto Uniform in over 50 years. The game will be held Saturday, October 12, at the Rush County Fairgrounds Field on east Hwy 4 in La Crosse. The game will start at 1:00pm and there is no admission charge. Vintage concessions will also be available.

The game is sponsored by the Rush County Sesquicentennial, “The 150-Year Rush,” a year-long celebration of events commemorating the founding of Rush County on December 5, 1874. WINKEL: Medicare Part D open enrollment

BOSTON (AP) — The family of Ethel Kennedy, the widow of Robert F. Kennedy, says she's been hospitalized after suffering a stroke.

In a statement on X posted Tuesday night by her daughter Kerry Kennedy, the family said it happened Thursday morning in her sleep and that she was brought to a hospital where she was receiving treatment and resting comfortably. They did not identify the hospital, nor where she suffered the stroke.

“She is comfortable, she is getting the best care possible and she is surrounded by family,” the statement said. “She is, as you know, a strong woman who has led a remarkably fulfilling life. We are looking after her.”

The 96-year-old matriarch is one of the last remaining members of the extended family’s generation that included President John F. Kennedy.

“She has had a great summer and transition into fall,” the family statement said. “Every day she enjoyed time with her children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was able to get out on the water, visit the pier, and enjoy many lunches and dinners with family. It has been a gift to all of us and to her as well.”

For a generation of Americans, the Democratic Party clan represented the closest thing the U.S. had to the royalty it has always admired elsewhere. The JFK era was dubbed “Camelot” because the youthful president and his glamorous wife, Jacqueline Kennedy, evoked a sense of national optimism, expressed in a line from the Broadway musical.

She was by Robert F. Kennedy’s side when he was fatally shot in the kitchen of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles on June 5, 1968, just after winning the Democratic presidential primary in California. Her brother-in-law, President John F. Kennedy, had been assassinated in Dallas less than five years earlier.

The Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights, which she founded later in 1968, is dedicated to advancing human rights through litigation, advocacy, education and inspiration. The nonprofit also gives annual awards to journalists, authors and others who have made a significant contribution to human rights. She also was active in the Coalition of Gun Control, Special Olympics and the Earth Conservation Corps.

She remained socially active into her 90s, participating in a 2016 demonstration in support of higher pay for farmworkers in Florida and a 2018 hunger strike against the Trump administration’s immigration policies. She divided her time between homes in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, and Palm Beach, Florida.

Robert F. Kennedy widow Ethel Kennedy, 96, suffers stroke 

HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State volleyball team held serve with 3rd-ranked Nebraska-Kearney early on Tuesday evening, winning the first set before the undefeated Lopers rallied back to win the match in four, 27-25, 17-25, 22-25, 16-25. The Tigers' (9-5, 1-4 MIAA) first-set victory was just the third set UNK (17-0, 5-0 MIAA) has lost this season.

The Tigers came out on a mission in the first set, posting an attack percentage of .317 with 16 kills and three errors on 41 attempts. Fort Hays State jumped out to an early four-point lead before the Lopers rallied to tie the score at 12. The Tigers continued to lead until UNK scored three in a row to go in front, 18-17.

FHSU later trailed 21-18 before going on a 5-1 run to go back on top. A combo block from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/taytum-lovesee/7946">Taytum Lovesee</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/claire-olson/7947">Claire Olson</a>&nbsp;tied the score at 22 before Lovesee teamed up with&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/grace-schmedding/8180">Grace Schmedding</a>&nbsp;to give the Tigers the lead. The visitors answered by scoring the next two points to reach set point, but a kill from Olson kept the Tigers alive. The Black and Gold then scored three in a row on two Loper errors and a Schmedding kill to secure the set, 27-25.

After totaling five kills on six attempts in the first set, Olson duplicated that effort in the second frame, posting a swing rate of .833 through the first two sets (10-0-12). The teams went back-and-forth for much of the second frame that included 11 ties and six lead changes. Neither side led by more than two until a late Loper run turned a 16-16 tie into a 25-17 win.

Nebraska-Kearney tried to pull away in the third set, leading by as many as six, 21-15, before the home team came storming back. WPAA to host 'The President's Own' Marine Band

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Coming off its 14th appearance in the NCAA Tournament overall and eighth under head coach Mark Johnson, Fort Hays State Men's Basketball was picked atop one of two MIAA Preseason Polls released on Tuesday morning at MIAA Basketball Media Day, presented by Seigfried Bingham. The Tigers were picked first in the Media Poll and second in the Coaches Poll.

The Tigers led the Media Poll with nine first-place votes and 247 voting points overall. Pittsburg State was second with 229 points and three first-place votes, while Northwest Missouri State was third with 217 points and five first-place votes. Washburn and Central Oklahoma also picked up a pair of first-place votes.

In the Coaches Poll, Washburn led the way with 161 points overall and eight first-place votes. Fort Hays State was second with 156 points overall and three first-place votes. Pittsburg State and Northwest Missouri State trailed in third and fourth respectively, also receiving first-place votes.

The Tigers finished second in the 2023-24 MIAA Men's Basketball regular season standings behind Northwest Missouri State, which claimed its 11th-straight MIAA regular season title. Both the Tigers and Bearcats, along with Pittsburg State, were participants in the NCAA Central Regional last year in Mankato, Minnesota, home to the eventual region and national champion Minnesota State.

The Tigers return four players who started games during the 2023-24 season, including All-MIAA First Team and D2CCA All-Central Region Second Team selection Kaleb Hammeke. He will enter his fifth season on the floor for the Tigers after his first season was during the COVID-19 year in which all players retained a year of eligibility. Hammeke will enter the 2024-25 season with 1,559 points, 441 assists, and 432 rebounds. He ranks fifth in career scoring and fourth in career assists at FHSU. Hammeke averaged a team-best 13.6 points and 4.1 assists per game in 2023-24. Overall, he is a four-time All-MIAA selection.

Other starters returning include Shaun Riley, Traejon Davis, and R.J. Crawford. The trio combined for 19.6 points per game in 2023-24, while Riley and Davis each averaged better than four rebounds per game. Kyle Grill and Lucas Hammeke also return this season. Grill saw plenty of action in his first year on the floor for the Tigers, averaging 3.1 points, while Hammeke was limited to just eight games due to injury.

The strong suit of the Tigers in 2023-24 was their defense. They had the top scoring defense in NCAA Division II, allowing only 57.9 points per game. The Tigers held 15 opponents to less than 60 points last year and only four opponents reached at least 70 in a game. Their season high allowed was 77 in an overtime contest.

Fort Hays State will be in its 24th season under the leadership of Mark Johnson, who enters the year with a 451-220 record overall. He is the all-time wins leader at FHSU. The Tigers open their year with an exhibition contest at Kansas State University on October 29. Their regular season begins with a pair of contests in Marshall, Minn. on November 8-9 and host their first home game on November 19 against South Dakota School of Mines.

🏀FHSU Tiger Men Picked First in Media, Second in Coaches Preseason MIAA Polls

Jackie E. Benander, 92, of
Russell, Kansas, died on Sunday, October 06, 2024, at the Russell Regional
Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Jack was born on November 27,
1931, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Theodore A. and Isabelle Ann (Ladner)
Benander.&nbsp; He grew up in Topeka, Kansas,
and graduated from Topeka High School.&nbsp;
After high school Jack served his country and enlisted in the United
States Air Force and served during the Korean War era.&nbsp; After serving his country he worked for many
years for the telephone company as a telephone lineman.&nbsp; He met, fell in love and was united in
marriage to Ruth Ann Pierce on May 31, 1991, in Denton, Texas. He was a member
of the Church of Christ of Russell, American Legion Post #309 of Luray, Kansas,
and V.F.W. Post #6240 of Russell.&nbsp; Jack
enjoyed having a good time with his buddies at the American Legion and V.F.W.&nbsp; 

Surviving family include his
daughters Beverly K. Bickery and husband Bill of Bloomington, Illinois, Debra
S. Freeman of Tool, Texas and Laura Benander of Arizona; his son Jimmie Dean
Furst and wife Stella of Baytown, Texas, sister Darlene Smith of Hays, Kansas;
9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.&nbsp;


He was preceded in death by his
parents, wife Ruth on December 21, 2016, son Michael E. Benander and brother
Larry R. Benander.

and graduated from Topeka High School.&nbsp;
After high school Jack served his country and enlisted in the United
States Air Force and served during the Korean War era.&nbsp; After serving his country he worked for many
years for the telephone company as a telephone lineman.&nbsp; He met, fell in love and was united in
marriage to Ruth Ann Pierce on May 31, 1991, in Denton, Texas. He was a member
of the Church of Christ of Russell, American Legion Post #309 of Luray, Kansas,
and V.F.W. Post #6240 of Russell.&nbsp; Jack
enjoyed having a good time with his buddies at the American Legion and V.F.W.&nbsp; Surviving family include his
daughters Beverly K. Bickery and husband Bill of Bloomington, Illinois, Debra
S. Freeman of Tool, Texas and Laura Benander of Arizona; his son Jimmie Dean
Furst and wife Stella of Baytown, Texas, sister Darlene Smith of Hays, Kansas;
9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.&nbsp;
He was preceded in death by his
parents, wife Ruth on December 21, 2016, son Michael E. Benander and brother
Larry R. Benander.

One year after former Marion Police Chief Gideon Cody resigned, he returns to town for his own criminal case

MARION — Former Marion Police Chief Gideon Cody returned Monday to the town where he&nbsp;<a href="https://kansasreflector.com/2023/08/11/police-stage-chilling-raid-on-marion-county-newspaper-seizing-computers-records-and-cellphones/">raided a newspaper</a>&nbsp;to face a dozen journalists along with a felony charge for his actions after the raid.

Cody&nbsp;<a href="https://kansasreflector.com/2023/08/12/police-defend-raid-on-kansas-newspaper-amid-backlash-over-brazen-violation-of-press-freedom/">led police</a>&nbsp;in the Aug. 11, 2023, raid on the Marion County Record, the editor’s home and a councilwoman’s home under the false pretense that a newspaper reporter had committed identity theft by looking up restaurateur Kari Newell’s driving record. Special prosecutors charged Cody with one count of interference with the judicial process, a low-level felony, for asking Newell after the raid to&nbsp;<a href="https://kansasreflector.com/2024/08/20/marion-woman-told-investigators-she-deleted-texts-with-police-chief-to-avoid-rumor-of-affair/">delete text messages</a>&nbsp;between the two. Cody told her he was concerned their relationship would be misinterpreted, according to court documents.

<a href="https://kansasreflector.com/2024/08/05/one-year-after-chilling-police-raid-on-kansas-newspaper-aftershocks-linger-in-marion/">One year later</a>, Cody is party to five federal civil lawsuits in addition to the criminal case.

Monday’s hearing, which lasted less than 10 minutes, was Cody’s first public appearance in the town since he resigned as police chief amid intense scrutiny in October 2023. In a courtroom with an audience mostly of reporters, Cody was straight-faced and silent.

District Judge Ryan Rosauer rejected Cody’s motion to dismiss the charge for lack of probable cause.

Rosauer, prosecutors and Cody’s defense agreed that Cody won’t be required to appear in court for minor hearings and case proceedings, including the case’s next scheduled hearing on Dec. 16. Court filings show Cody is believed to be living in Hawaii.

Cody and Sal Intagliata, a Wichita attorney who is defending Cody, declined to answer reporters’ questions as they left the courthouse. Intagliata said the “full story” would come out as the case is litigated in court. Cody didn’t speak.

Intagliata, as he ushered Cody into a car, told reporters: “If I have any comment at all on behalf of Mr. Cody, it would be this: that the people of Marion County, really the most important people involved in this situation, take a minute to reserve judgment, take a moment to, like, avoid jumping to conclusions, and allow the system to work.”

Cody won’t be required to pay a cash bond. Instead, Rosauer ordered a $5,000 personal recognizance bond, which Cody only will have to pay if he fails to show up to court when required.

If convicted, Cody would face presumed probation.

Following the hearing, Marion County Record editor and publisher Eric Meyer answered questions from a dozen reporters who gathered outside the newspaper office across the street from the courthouse. They asked him to respond to Intagliata.

“We can take a delay of the justice system, as long as the delay actually results in proper assessment of things,” Meyer said. “We’re not in a hurry. He should have plenty of time to think about what he did.”

Meyer said Cody shouldn’t be the only one who is charged with a crime. Others, Meyer said, should have intervened — including other police officers, the sheriff, the county attorney, and the magistrate who signed the search warrants.

“Somewhere the system failed,” Meyer said. “These are the people who are supposed to protect our rights. They didn’t do it. That’s why I hate to see Gideon Cody be the fall guy for all this. Yes, he deserves a great deal of credit or blame for what went on in here, but there are others who were well aware of it.”

Annual Pioneer Day Features Nicodemus Township History Trail Bike Tour&nbsp;Interview Series: &nbsp;Announcing the Newly Formed Band, “Butch Creek”&nbsp;

Chris Farrell from Hill City shared that his introduction to music was in elementary school, 5th Grade, in Mr. Warren Stafford’s band class when he tried out to be a Drummer. &nbsp;That began his musical venture.&nbsp;

Chris was influenced by 80s music and like one of his music idols, Eddie Van Halen, he progressed from drums to guitar. &nbsp;He bought a Sears, Roebuck and Company guitar and amplifier and started playing music he was listening to on cassette tapes and the radio. &nbsp;

During high school Chris played in several "garage bands" with classmates and friends. &nbsp;His biggest performance and claim to fame is when he played drums in front of thousands and thousands of people at the Air Force Academy football stadium in Colorado Springs. &nbsp;A select number of Hill City High School marching band members was granted the opportunity to play and entertain at the Air Force Academy on Band Day during halftime at a football game.&nbsp;

During Chris’ 30 year stay in Denver, at times he played with a hole in the band that consisted of friends and co-workers. &nbsp;But primarily he played at open mic nights as a one man band in the Denver Metro area. &nbsp;Chris moved back to Hill City in 2022 and connected with Chris Gansel and the guys.&nbsp;

Chris said that he likes playing both drums and guitar equally but his instrument of choice is the guitar.

&nbsp;Currently Mr. Farrell is playing in the newly formed band, “Butch Creek”. &nbsp;The Butch Creek band gets its name in honoring Butch Owen. &nbsp;The band was put together based on the “Open Mic Night” at Mikkelson’s Tavern. &nbsp;The origination of the band came together by the guys who have been dedicated to helping setup, practice and play for open mic night. &nbsp;The band’s music style is Classic Rock, Country, Blues and Alternative. &nbsp;The “Butch Creek” band members are Chris Farrell, Chris Gansel, Fred Owen, Jeramy Owen, Eric "Dok" Nevins and Rex Striggow. &nbsp;Butch Creek is the “make shift house band” for Mikkelson’s Tavern “Open Mic Night” and they also play at other events.&nbsp;

Farrell became acquainted with the Nicodemus Bike Tour through Karla Bates-Adams. &nbsp;Both were participants of Leadership Graham County and serve on the Graham County Travel and Tourism Development Committee.&nbsp;Chris said this is a beautiful time of year to ride a bike in the quiet countryside, see wildlife, fall colors and appreciate our area. &nbsp;He added that this event will also provide the opportunity to reflect on the importance of community, what this area represents and what the founders of Nicodemus went through and found in this settlement.

Chris Gansel also from Hill City had an early introduction which formed his love of music. &nbsp;Chris' mother, Kathy played piano in a bar band in Idaho to help support herself while in college and prior to marrying and moving to Hill City. &nbsp;For a few times in the early 60s she played keyboard with a local band. &nbsp;

Chris learned a "little" piano from his mom but states his true love became the guitar. &nbsp;His older brother, Steve bought a guitar and took lessons. &nbsp;When he wasn’t playing it Chris would pick it up and mess around with it. &nbsp;

Chris said his instrument of choice is the guitar.&nbsp;After Chris’ junior year of high school, his brother Steve, Jody Pembleton and Tyce Bruton were trying to form a band and needed a bass player but couldn’t find one. &nbsp;Chris agreed to play bass and bought a $50.00 used bass guitar. &nbsp;In the summer 1979 the band Legend played four dances. &nbsp;Chris along with his brother played in several "garage bands" each summer until he was out of college. &nbsp;

During the summer they would form a band and then break up during the school year.&nbsp;In 1985 Chris and his brother moved to Nashville, TN with the thought of becoming song writers. &nbsp;They had three songs published but none made it onto a record. &nbsp;In Nashville they played in the bands Starwood and Souvenirs. &nbsp;Chris got married in 1987 and played until the early 90s when his daughter was born. &nbsp;His family then moved back to Hill City. &nbsp;

He started playing with a “folk” group in church twice a month. &nbsp;After meeting Todd Toman they put together the band “Country Highway” which played classic country &amp; rock, current country songs and some bluegrass music. &nbsp;In 2008 when Country Highway was just starting Chris and the band played for his parent’s (Kathy and Frank) 50th anniversary. 

Unfortunately, his brother Steve was not able to be there.

Now, Mr. Gansel is playing in the newly formed band, “Butch Creek”. &nbsp;Chris became aware of the Nicodemus Bike Tour through fellow band member Chris Farrell. Gansel said that promoting this event is a natural fit for him with his position as Director of Graham County Recreation Commission (GCRC). &nbsp;He added that the history of Nicodemus is a very important part of the history in our area. &nbsp;

He’s encouraging people to get out, get some fresh air and get acquainted or re-acquainted with a real important part of the history in this area.&nbsp;When asked for further comment regarding this event, Mr Gansel stated, "In our current political climate and the fact that it is an election year, we are being bombarded from all sides. &nbsp;Race is still a thing: &nbsp;you can't deny it. &nbsp;Much of the intensity and volume of injustice that you see elsewhere didn't seem to be as prevalent in our county, but the black community in our area had to feel some racial tension". &nbsp;

This event continues to break through all types of boundaries.”

In Chris’ final statement he said, this is a chance to get out in our area, enjoy nature, our surroundings and also be aware of what freedom is really worth.

Chris and the band members of Butch Creek host an open mic night at Mikkelson’s Tavern on the second Saturday of each month. &nbsp;Everyone who wants to sing and play music is welcome. &nbsp;

They are also playing during the Inaugural Nicodemus Township History Trail Bike tour taking place on this Saturday, October 12, 2024. &nbsp;

The band will start playing in the park around 11:30 AM.&nbsp;The Nicodemus Historical Society invites your entire family including the kids to bring your bikes and ride a FREE shorter route that will take you on a tour around the historic town of Nicodemus to various silhouettes, historic building sites and a few of the historic tour signs.

Nicodemus Township History Trail Bike Tour Interview Series: 'Butch Creek'

One of the many returning activities at this year’s event includes the ever-popular Anvil Shoot.

The Kansas Anvil Shooters will shoot the anvil three times each day.

On both Saturday and Sunday, there will be scheduled demonstrations of wheat threshing, corn shelling, and blacksmithing.There will also be a working miniature farm equipment display.The tractor pull will begin Sunday at 10:00 a.m.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State linebacker Makel Williams was named the MIAA Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday following the 31-21 win over No. 12 ranked Central Missouri this past weekend.

Williams led the Tiger defense with 14 tackles and one pass break up in the 31-21 win over nationally ranked Central Missouri. His 14 tackles were a new career high for him at FHSU. It was the third time this season he recorded double figures in tackles for a game. Williams currently leads the MIAA in total tackles with 53, averaging 8.8 per game.

Williams joins Jaylen Cottrell of Central Oklahoma (Offensive Athlete of the Week) and Noah Guastella of Northwest Missouri State (Special Teams Athlete of the Week) as the weekly honorees from the conference office for October 7, 2024.

The United Way of Ellis County will be having an information meeting regarding the CARE Council application process. 

The CARE Council is made up of 12 community volunteers who review the applications to determine funding for the United Way of Ellis County, City of Hays Social Service Funds and Alcohol Tax Funds, Ellis County Alcohol Tax Funds and now the addition of Ellis County Outside Funding.

This meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 8th at 10:30 at Brief Space. This meeting is for any 501(c)3 who will be or is interested in applying for funding from the above entities. 

This meeting will cover the online application process and timeline.

United Way of Ellis Co. to host informational meeting

Shirley Bracelin of St. Francis, KS passed away on Friday,
September 27, 2024.&nbsp; Shirley was born to
Arthur and Martha Lueschen.&nbsp; She attended
and graduated from St. Francis High School.&nbsp;


She married Darrel Lee Purvis on January 27, 1957, and had
two children, Mark and David.&nbsp; Darrel
passed away in 2003.&nbsp; Shirley married
Keith Bracelin on February 24, 2013.

Shirley is survived by her son, David (Victoria) Purvis,
Shawnee, KS. and daughter in law, Karen Purvis (Rusty) Blehm, Meade, KS; four
grandchildren: Josh (Tiffany) Purvis, Jennifer Taylor, Michael Purvis, and
Jordan Purvis; and two great-granddaughters, Jessa Taylor and Isabelle Purvis.&nbsp; She also leaves behind many nieces and
nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husbands, Darrel
Purvis and Keith Bracelin; son, Mark Purvis; great-grandson, Wyatt Windholz;
siblings, Phyllis Hook, Paul Lueschen and Beverly Crane.

Graveside services, officiated by Pastor Brenda Rodger, will
be held on Monday, October 21, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Mount Allen Cemetery. 2601
Vine Street in Hays, KS.&nbsp; A reception to
follow at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2703 Fort St., Hays, KS&nbsp; 67601.

WACO, Texas – Fort Hays State Football returned to the receiving votes list of the AFCA Top 25 Poll released on Monday, October 7. With the 31-21 win over then No. 12 ranked Central Missouri this past week, the Tigers knocked the Mules from the Top 25 to the receiving votes list as well. FHSU currently owns an overall record of 4-2.

With Central Missouri dropping to the receiving votes list, the MIAA now has three schools listed in the Top 25. Pittsburg State leads the group, ranked No. 7, followed by Central Oklahoma at No. 13 and Emporia State at No. 18. Fort Hays State, Central Missouri, and Northwest Missouri State are all among the receiving votes list.

Fort Hays State plays host to Washburn University this weekend in Hays. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 12) at Lewis Field Stadium.
