Outdoor watering restrictions in Hays which started June 1 will end Tuesday, Sept. 30. 

Until then, outdoor water use is prohibited between noon and 7 p.m., including from private wells.&nbsp;

In addition to the seasonal restrictions, Holly Dickman, water conservation specialist, said the following are banned year-round:

• Washing down of hardscapes such as sidewalks, parking lots, driveways • Known water loss through breaks, leaks in plumbing systems • Escape of water from private property onto public property such as&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;landscape irrigation onto sidewalks, street gutters

If the weather is warm and windy in October, Dickman encouraged watering landscape plants and turfgrass if necessary.

"Fortunately, with cooler night temperatures and shorter days, the need for supplemental irrigation is greatly reduced," she said. "Always be sure to check the soil moisture first before turning on the irrigation system or garden hose."

Dickman said fall is also an excellent time to plant deciduous trees and shrubs as well as many drought-tolerant perennials.

"The cooler temperatures make the environment less stressful, while the warm soil temperatures encourage good root growth," she said.&nbsp;

Outdoor seasonal watering restrictions end Sept. 30 in Hays

President Donald J. Trump’s Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict:

1. Gaza will be a deradicalized terror-free zone that does not pose a threat to its neighbors.



2. Gaza will be redeveloped for the benefit of the people of Gaza, who have suffered more than enough.



3. If both sides agree to this proposal, the war will immediately end. Israeli forces will withdraw to the agreed upon line to prepare for a hostage release. During this time, all military operations, including aerial and artillery bombardment, will be suspended, and battle lines will remain frozen until conditions are met for the complete staged withdrawal.



4. Within 72 hours of Israel publicly accepting this agreement, all hostages, alive and deceased, will be returned.



5. Once all hostages are released, Israel will release 250 life sentence prisoners plus 1700 Gazans who were detained after October 7th 2023, including all women and children detained in that context. For every Israeli hostage whose remains are released, Israel will release the remains of 15 deceased Gazans.



6. Once all hostages are returned, Hamas members who commit to peaceful co-existence and to decommission their weapons will be given amnesty. Members of Hamas who wish to leave Gaza will be provided safe passage to receiving countries.



7. Upon acceptance of this agreement, full aid will be immediately sent into the Gaza Strip. At a minimum, aid quantities will be consistent with what was included in the January 19, 2025, agreement regarding humanitarian aid, including rehabilitation of infrastructure (water, electricity, sewage), rehabilitation of hospitals and bakeries, and entry of necessary equipment to remove rubble and open roads.



8. Entry of distribution and aid in the Gaza Strip will proceed without interference from the two parties through the United Nations and its agencies, and the Red Crescent, in addition to other international institutions not associated in any manner with either party. Opening the Rafah crossing in both directions will be subject to the same mechanism implemented under the January 19, 2025 agreement.



9. Gaza will be governed under the temporary transitional governance of a technocratic, apolitical Palestinian committee, responsible for delivering the day-to-day running of public services and municipalities for the people in Gaza. This committee will be made up of qualified Palestinians and international experts, with oversight and supervision by a new international transitional body, the “Board of Peace,” which will be headed and chaired by President Donald J. Trump, with other members and heads of State to be announced, including Former Prime Minister Tony Blair. This body will set the framework and handle the funding for the redevelopment of Gaza until such time as the Palestinian Authority has completed its reform program, as outlined in various proposals, including President Trump’s peace plan in 2020 and the Saudi-French proposal, and can securely and effectively take back control of Gaza. This body will call on best international standards to create modern and efficient governance that serves the people of Gaza and is conducive to attracting investment.



10. A Trump economic development plan to rebuild and energize Gaza will be created by convening a panel of experts who have helped birth some of the thriving modern miracle cities in the Middle East. Many thoughtful investment proposals and exciting development ideas have been crafted by well-meaning international groups, and will be considered to synthesize the security and governance frameworks to attract and facilitate these investments that will create jobs, opportunity, and hope for future Gaza.



11. A special economic zone will be established with preferred tariff and access rates to be negotiated with participating countries.



12. No one will be forced to leave Gaza, and those who wish to leave will be free to do so and free to return. We will encourage people to stay and offer them the opportunity to build a better Gaza.



13. Hamas and other factions agree to not have any role in the governance of Gaza, directly, indirectly, or in any form. All military, terror, and offensive infrastructure, including tunnels and weapon production facilities, will be destroyed and not rebuilt. There will be a process of demilitarization of Gaza under the supervision of independent monitors, which will include placing weapons permanently beyond use through an agreed process of decommissioning, and supported by an internationally funded buy back and reintegration program all verified by the independent monitors. New Gaza will be fully committed to building a prosperous economy and to peaceful coexistence with their neighbors.



14. A guarantee will be provided by regional partners to ensure that Hamas, and the factions, comply with their obligations and that New Gaza poses no threat to its neighbors or its people.



15. The United States will work with Arab and international partners to develop a temporary International Stabilization Force (ISF) to immediately deploy in Gaza. The ISF will train and provide support to vetted Palestinian police forces in Gaza, and will consult with Jordan and Egypt who have extensive experience in this field. This force will be the long-term internal security solution. The ISF will work with Israel and Egypt to help secure border areas, along with newly trained Palestinian police forces. It is critical to prevent munitions from entering Gaza and to facilitate the rapid and secure flow of goods to rebuild and revitalize Gaza. A deconfliction mechanism will be agreed upon by the parties.



16. Israel will not occupy or annex Gaza. As the ISF establishes control and stability, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will withdraw based on standards, milestones, and timeframes linked to demilitarization that will be agreed upon between the IDF, ISF, the guarantors, and the Unites States, with the objective of a secure Gaza that no longer poses a threat to Israel, Egypt, or its citizens. Practically, the IDF will progressively hand over the Gaza territory it occupies to the ISF according to an agreement they will make with the transitional authority until they are withdrawn completely from Gaza, save for a security perimeter presence that will remain until Gaza is properly secure from any resurgent terror threat.



17. In the event Hamas delays or rejects this proposal, the above, including the scaled-up aid operation, will proceed in the terror-free areas handed over from the IDF to the ISF.



18. An interfaith dialogue process will be established based on the values of tolerance and peaceful co-existence to try and change mindsets and narratives of Palestinians and Israelis by emphasizing the benefits that can be derived from peace.



19. While Gaza re-development advances and when the PA reform program is faithfully carried out, the conditions may finally be in place for a credible pathway to Palestinian self-determination and statehood, which we recognize as the aspiration of the Palestinian people.



20. The United States will establish a dialogue between Israel and the Palestinians to agree on a political horizon for peaceful and prosperous co-existence.

Domestic violence can often be misunderstood as an issue contained to a couple’s private relationship. In reality, the effects extend far beyond the immediate partners involved. Children&nbsp; who witness abuse can face long-term trauma. Families and friends lose loved ones. Co-workers, neighbors, and bystanders can become unintended victims. Even first responders, those who step in to protect, face life-threatening risks when responding to these calls.

According to national research, 13.9% of officer-involved shootings occur in response to domestic violence incidents (wcadv.org, 2020). This stark reality underscores the urgent need for prevention strategies and education at every level of the community.

“Our hearts are with all who have been impacted by the recent incidents here in our home community of Hays,” Kaiti Blackburn, executive director of Jana’s Campaign added. “Incidents like this remind us why prevention education is necessary.”

HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State volleyball team came up on the losing end of a match for the first time in three weeks and just the second time this season on Saturday, losing to Central Missouri 25-20, 25-20, 25-20. The Tigers are now 12-2 overall and 1-1 in league play, while the Jennies move to 8-3 on the year and 1-1 in MIAA action.

Central Missouri scored six of the first seven points to take an early lead, but the Tigers mounted a response with a kills by Gracie Rains, Peyton Bergschneider and Carsyn Cormaney to narrow the gap to 7-6. The Jennies bounced back to push the lead back to six before a pair of service aces from Kirsten Evans brought the Tigers within two at 18-16. The visitors regained the momentum from there, outscoring the Tigers 7-4 down the stretch to win 25-20.

The second set was close throughout, highlighted by 10 ties and four lead changes. Neither side led by more than two for much of the stanza, with FHSU leading as late as 14-13. The Jennies later scored three in a row to push their lead to four at 20-16, prompting a Tiger timeout. FHSU was unable to mount a comeback, again falling 25-20 to go down in the match 2-0.

Central Missouri never trailed in the third set, scoring the first three points and never looking back. After trailing by as many as six at 14-8, the Black and Gold scored seven of the next 10 to pull within two thanks three kills from Ella Goodwin. UCM bounced back after that rally, turning the 17-15 lead into a 25-20 win after outpacing the Tigers 8-5 down the stretch.

Caiya Stucky Reyes led the Tigers with 10 kills without an error on 17 attempts, achieving a hitting percentage of .588. Bergschneider contributed significantly with nine kills and added a team-best 12 digs. Goodwin finished with eight kills and one block assist, while Abrey Galt and Annie Eaton tied for the lead with 19 assists each. Evans matched Bergschneider with 12 digs while adding a pair of service aces. A trio of Jennies tied for a match-high 11 kills, including Rachel Ziesman, Kaelyn McDonald and Shaye Koski.

The Tigers will be on the road for the next two weeks starting Friday (Oct. 3) when FHSU takes on Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Mo. beginning at 6 p.m. FHSU's next home match is set for Friday, October 17 when the Tigers host second-ranked Central Oklahoma beginning at 6 p.m.

🏐 Tigers win-streak snapped by Jennies

William Theobald Wierman, age 85 of Hays, Kansas died Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at Via Christi Village - Hays. He was born October 20, 1939 in McCracken, KS to William H. Wierman and Alvina G. (Bieker) Wierman. He graduated from St. Joseph’s Military Academy in 1958. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. During the course of his enlistment, he was stationed in Alaska and then finished his military service in the army reserves. He was united in marriage to Agnes Marie Schmidt on July 24, 1965 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hays, KS.

Upon his discharge from the Army, he began work for Bieker Construction. He eventually started his own construction and remodeling business. His emphasis was on cabinets and finish carpentry. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 173. He was also a Director for the Prairie Acres Improvement District for 39 years.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes Wierman of Hays, KS; daughters, Anne Schulte (Matthew) of Hays, KS and Amy Wierman of Lawrence, KS; a son, William G. Wierman (Tammy) of Hays, KS; grandchildren, Jenna Schulte (Rohn), Michael Schulte (Andreina), Emily Schulte, and Travis Wierman; great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Cora Brantley, Emma and Olivia Schulte and sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Stevenson and Clarice (Joe) Chism.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. &amp; Alvina Wierman; father and mother-in-law Lucius &amp; Alfreda Schmidt; siblings, William H. Wierman, Terry Wierman, Donald Wierman, and Sheila Sander; an infant son, Michael Wierman and a brother-in-law, Harry Stevenson.

SEDGWICK COUNTY —A driver involved in a&nbsp;&nbsp;fatal crash that killed a Kansas Sheriff's Deputy expected to learn his fate Friday.

For the second week, the sentencing for Kelvin Burgett, 28, Prescott Valley, Arizona scheduled for Judge William Wooley's courtroom was coninued,&nbsp;according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office. 

In July Burgett pleaded no contest to involuntary manslaughter, according to the district attorneys office.

He was originally charged with involuntary manslaughter while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and&nbsp; driving while suspended, according to the Sedgwick County arrest report.

In October of 2022, a&nbsp;2016 Dodge Charger driven by Sedgwick County Sheriff's Deputy Sidnee Carter, 22, Bel Aire, was southbound on 135th Street at 29th Street north one mile west of Northwest Wichita and Maize responding to a disturbance, according to Sheriff Jeff Easter.

A westbound 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Burgett failed to stop at a stop sign and struck the drivers side of the Dodge Charger, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Deputy Carter was pronounced deceased at the scene. EMS transported Burgett to a local hospital.

Deputy Carter had only worked in the field alone for a week, according to Sheriff Easter. She began field training in the summer of 2022 and completed that training Oct. 1.&nbsp;

Deputy Carter had served the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office for one and a half years in the Sedgwick County Detention Facility before transferring to the Law Enforcement Bureau in February 2022. She graduated the Law Enforcement Academy on July 21, 2022.&nbsp;

Noah Morenz finished 92nd out of 200 finishers after traversing the course in 25:52.3. Hayden Nemechek completed the trek in 26:49.1, good for 132nd place, with Cole Krug close behind in 135th with a time of 26:51.6. Ian Weich rounded out the Tiger top five after crossing the line in 26:59.3.

Host Oklahoma State, the third-ranked team in NCAA DI, secured the team title with 36 points after placing six runners in the top 15. OSU's Denis Kipngetich won the race with a time of 23:33.7, three seconds clear of second place.

The Tigers will return to action in two weeks when they host the FHSU Tiger Open on Saturday, October 11. The men's eight-kilometer race will open the day at 9:15 a.m. at the Tiger Cross Country Course, located near the FHSU Track &amp; Field Facility.

The Tigers accumulated 319 points between their top five finishers, finishing second out of the eight NCAA DII teams in attendance and beating two NCAA DI programs in the process.

Emily Diercks cracked the top 20, completing the six-kilometer course at the Greiner Family Cross Country Course in 21:03.3. She was the top non-DI finisher, defeating every runner from seventh-ranked Western Colorado and each competitor from the top-ranked NJCAA program in Odessa College.

Taylor Hoskinson was the next Tiger to the finish line, turning in a time of 22:57.3 to place 100th out of 197 finishers. Running in her first collegiate 6K, Esther Clark-Pavlovich placed 103rd with a time of 23:05.3, while fellow freshman Eva Cortes was close behind in 108th after traversing the course in 23:10.9. Emma Weiner was next across the finish line, rounding out the Tiger top five in 109th place with a time of 23:11.6.

BYU, the top-ranked team in NCAA DI, took home the team title with 34 team points. Host Oklahoma State's Isca Chelangat captured the individual title with a time of 19:59.1, more than five seconds in front of her nearest competitor.

👟 No. 23 Tiger women's cross country 10th at Cowboy Jamboree

Ronald W. Bean, age 89, of Hays, Kansas, passed away on
September 22, 2025. He was born on August 15, 1936, in Anna, Illinois. After
graduating high school, Ron continued his education at Southern Illinois
University, earning his bachelor’s degree in agriculture.

On November 8, 1986, Ron was united in marriage to Ruth
(Tegtmeyer) Schmitz. They shared 30 wonderful years together before Ruth’s
passing on April 29, 2017. Through Ron’s work as an agricultural chemical sales
representative for Ciba Geigy, a career that spanned more than 40 years, he and
Ruth were able to travel and enjoy many destinations. Together, they also loved
visiting casinos, playing cards with family, and making memories with their
children and grandchildren.

Ron enjoyed spending time outdoors, tending to his lawn and
garden, which were his true passions. He was an avid Kansas City Royals fan and
looked forward to watching K-State football and basketball whenever he could.
Ron also enjoyed playing golf with friends and family.

Survivors include his brother, Deward Bean; children, Darrin
Schmitz (Jenny) of Shawnee, KS, Derrik Schmitz of Hays, KS, and Lisa Pease
(Joe) of Colorado Springs, CO; and grandchildren, Savannah and Elijah of Hays,
Zachariah of Shawnee, Britney of Wichita, and Ashley and Christopher of
Colorado Springs.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; his parents,
Herman and Nannie Bean; and his siblings, Sarah, Harold, and George.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from
9:30–10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 2900 Hall St., Hays, KS 67601. A
funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Ben Houchen officiating.
Interment will take place at a later date in McGinnis Cemetery, Anna, Illinois,
where Ron will be laid to rest beside his wife, Ruth.

Ruth were able to travel and enjoy many destinations. Together, they also loved
visiting casinos, playing cards with family, and making memories with their
children and grandchildren.Ron enjoyed spending time outdoors, tending to his lawn and
garden, which were his true passions. He was an avid Kansas City Royals fan and
looked forward to watching K-State football and basketball whenever he could.
Ron also enjoyed playing golf with friends and family.Survivors include his brother, Deward Bean; children, Darrin
Schmitz (Jenny) of Shawnee, KS, Derrik Schmitz of Hays, KS, and Lisa Pease

CASA fall fundraising efforts continue despite loss of donor relations manager

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Tennis moved to 2-2 overall on the season with a 7-0 win over Hastings College on Wednesday afternoon at the FHSU Tennis Courts. The Tigers swept doubles play and won all singles matches in straight sets.

In doubles, the No. 1 team of Janae Montoya and Molly Gaddis had the quickest match, winning 6-1. At No. 2 Yone Pereiro and Ines Latorre won 6-3 and at No. 3 Ines Steeman and Bethan Gill won 6-4. Gill and Steeman remain unbeaten on the season at the No. 3 position, currently 3-0.

Gaddis blew right through her singles opponent at No. 2 with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Gill (No. 3) and Latorre (No. 4) each won 6-1, 6-1. Montoya took the No. 5 match 6-1, 6-2, while Steeman was consistent at No. 6 with a 6-2, 6-2 result. The closest match was at No. 1, where Pereiro won 6-4, 6-3. Steeman is currently riding a four-match win streak in singles, while Gaddis has won three in a row going back to last week's ITA Fall Central Regional.

Fort Hays State hosts a scrimmage with Barton (Kan.) Community College on Friday at 2 p.m. in Hays. Their next regular season competition will be against Kansas Wesleyan in Hays on Thursday, October 2 at 3 p.m.

NEW ORLEANS - The Fort Hays State women's cross country team moved up four spots to No. 23 in the country in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division II National Coaches Poll, announced Wednesday. The Tigers opened the year ranked 26th nationally before moving to No. 27 last week.

Adams State remains atop the national poll after receiving all eight first-place votes, while four MIAA schools are also listed in No. 14 Pittsburg State, No. 18 Rogers State, No. 19 Missouri Southern and No. 21 Nebraska-Kearney.

Fort Hays State has had a strong start to the season, placing second as a team at each of its first two races. The Tigers defeated Division I Wichita State in the opening week of the season, with Emily Diercks placing first overall with a 5K time of 18:11.1. FHSU then sent a limited number of competitors to Bethel the following weekend, finishing just 10 points behind the leaders with primarily freshmen running for the Tigers.

The Tigers will return to competition Friday (Sept. 26) when they travel to Stillwater, Okla. for the Cowboy Jamboree. The women's 6K is slated to begin at 8:15 a.m. FHSU will then wrap up the regular season at home with the Tiger Open on Saturday, October 11.

Margaret Ada 'Meg' Zweifel, 88, of Great Bend, Kansas, and
formerly of Waldo, Kansas, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2025 at the
Brookdale Assisted Living Facility in Great Bend, Kansas. 

Meg was born October 21, 1936, to Reuben and Nellie (Roth)
Francis, in Lucas, Kansas. Meg was united in marriage to Wayne C. Zweifel at
her parents’ home in rural Lucas, Kansas, on February 6, 1955. This union was
blessed with five children: Steven Wayne, Sheila Jean, Sherry Kay, Shelly May
and Bradley Charles. 

Meg’s early years were spent on Rocktown Ranch farm, where
the Wilson Lake is now established. In 1955, she and her husband moved to a
farm in rural Waldo and built a new home there. She graduated from Lucas High
School in May of 1954 and then attended Northwest Kansas College at Hays,
Kansas. She belonged to the Paradise Dell FCE Club since 1960, the TOPS (Take
off pounds sensibly)# ks.874 and was a charter member and was a KOPS (Keep off
pounds sensibly) since 1998, where she held every officer position. She also
started the Russell Red Hot Hatters of Russell and the Lucas Post Rock Red Hat
Brats of the Red Hat Society. She so enjoyed Biking Across Kansas for 27 years,
which she loved very much and made some very dear friends. 

Meg devoted her life to being a loving wife, mother and
homemaker to her growing family while her children were growing up. After her
children were in school, Meg went to work at the Russell County Courthouse for
five years, then was office manager at DSNWK. She then worked for several years
as Secretary/Bookkeeper at Smoky Hills Public Television Station in Bunker
Hill, Kansas, and was also a Tour Guide for Cheyanne Travel Agency of Great
Bend. After she retired, she accepted a part time position as a Loan Officer at
Rapid Cash in Russell where she worked for over 12 years until she was 83 and
retired again because of the COVID Pandemic. 

Meg was a long time member of the Amherst Methodist Church
in rural Waldo and was baptized in 1997. Meg enjoyed music and loved to sing
Hymns. She also enjoyed making homemade candies for Christmas to give away and
adored attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and school programs. She
was always excited to see her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren
and so enjoyed the family get togethers, including the traditional cocoa and
biscuit breakfast and all the one-on-one trips with her grandchildren to their
Condo’s in Pagosa Springs, Colorado and the marvelous family vacations to
Hawaii, Pennsylvania, Silver Dollar City in Branson and Washington, D.C. plus
many other wonderful places. 

Meg helped her husband with farming and harvest by bringing
out sandwiches for the crew and her creative casseroles, occasionally driving a
truck when needed. She faced life, as well as her many health challenges, with
calm acceptance and desire to adjust to whatever new reality she faced – which
she did without complaining. 

Surviving family include: daughters, Sheila Hinman (Greg) of
Lewis, Kansas, Sherry Pruter (Dale) of Great Bend, Kansas, Shelly Post (Ron) of
Great Bend, Kansas; son, Bradley Zweifel (Beth) of Waldo, Kansas.
Grandchildren; Jeannie Grimme (Casey), Jeff Hinman (Maggie), Jessica Hinman
(Bryce Brown), Luke Pruter (Maggie), Audra Rostine (Eric), Holly Johnson
(Eric), Megan McGuire (Ross), Alisha Livingston (Mathew), Carol Joyce Ridgley
(C.J.) and Payton Zweifel; great grandchildren, Connor Grimme (Madison), Claire
Grimme, Kaiden, Kenzlie and Kooper Rostine, Sheridan and Clayton Johnson,
Hudson and Hazel Hinman, Amelia and Kaladin McGuire, Wesley, Lily and Eliza
Livingston; great-great granddaughter, Oakleigh Grimme and a great-great

Meg was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne, on April 2,
2021; son, Steven Wayne Zweifel on June 12, 1968, in a tractor accident; her
parents; sisters, Lillian Waugh and Janeice Hochman; and her
granddaughter-in-law, Abby Hinman. 

Celebration of Meg’s Life will be held at 10:30 A.M.,
Saturday, September 27, 2025 at the Luray Community Church in Luray, Kansas.
Burial will follow at the Amherst Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00
AM to 8:00 PM, Friday, September 26, 2025, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in
Russell, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A

LOGAN — The Hansen Museum Continuing Education Program is delighted to welcome certified Bob Ross instructor Hope Blakely of Arvada, Colorado, for two Magic of Painting classes on October 18 and 19. 

On Saturday, October 18, participants will paint Tropical Paradise, and on Sunday, October 19, English Village. 

Both classes will take place in the Hansen Museum Community Room, located at 110 W. Main Street in Logan, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day, with a one-hour lunch break.

These classes offer a fun, beginner-friendly introduction to painting. Students will be guided step-by-step through the process of completing a finished painting each day. No prior experience is necessary, and all supplies are provided. Participants need only bring a roll of paper towels. 

Open to individuals aged 13 and older, these sessions provide a relaxed, supportive atmosphere that fosters creativity and camaraderie.

Upcoming beginner-friendly painting classes in Logan

Lorraine Kay (Hance) Newell, 81, of Webster, Kansas, departed this life on May 3, 2025, at Rooks County Health Center.

She was born at home on the family farm in Webster on April 24, 1944, to Raymond and Christine Hance, and graduated from Webster High School in 1962. She married Gary Newell on October 20, 1962, and from this union, they had four daughters. They later divorced. Lorraine had a love of nature and animals! As a child, she had a pet deer, Judy, whom they fished out of the creek as a fawn, and a pet raccoon named Petey.

She enjoyed many activities and hobbies throughout her life. She was an artist and painted black and white portraits into color, and was an avid quilter and seamstress. She was passionate about restoring antiques, curling up with a good book, cooking for her family, hosting family gatherings, and telling stories about “the good ole’ days.” She loved all types of music and dancing, and would randomly break out and do “the Twist” when the mood struck her. She loved working in her flower beds, gardening, and putting up food “for a rainy day.” She never passed up a garage sale, thrift store, or antique shop.

Lorraine never knew a stranger. If you were fortunate enough to end up on her doorstep, you would be greeted with spirited conversation and would never leave with an empty stomach.

Lorraine was a hard worker. In her early years as a farmer’s wife, it was not uncommon to find her bottle-feeding litters of pigs, dogs, bunnies, kittens, or any other animal that needed a mom.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, homemaker, and nurturer. She wore many hats in her later years, including roofing for Schult Homes, working the line at Travenol, cooking at the Graham County Hospital and Stockton Grade School, serving as a CMA at Larned State Hospital, and working as an in-home health Aide.

She is survived by her children, Monica (Chuck) Bebb, Lenora, Michelle (Kelly) Dreiling, Hill City, Desiree (Terry) Double, Plainville, and Deena (Terry) Paxson, Hill City; twin sister Lyndal Fetterolf, Pawnee Rock; brother John Hance, Stockton; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Christine Hance; her brothers, Charles and Steve Hance; her grandson, Patrick Reilly; her nephew, Charles Velz; and her sons-in-law, Chuck Bebb and Terry Paxson.

She wore many hats in her later years, including roofing for Schult Homes, working the line at Travenol, cooking at the Graham County Hospital and Stockton Grade School, serving as a CMA at Larned State Hospital, and working as an in-home health Aide.She is survived by her children, Monica (Chuck) Bebb, Lenora, Michelle (Kelly) Dreiling, Hill City, Desiree (Terry) Double, Plainville, and Deena (Terry) Paxson, Hill City; twin sister Lyndal Fetterolf, Pawnee Rock; brother John Hance, Stockton; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Christine Hance; her brothers, Charles and Steve Hance; her grandson, Patrick Reilly; her nephew, Charles Velz; and her sons-in-law, Chuck Bebb and Terry Paxson.

Joyce
Eileen (Riedel) Richardson, age 75, passed away unexpectedly on September 6,
2025 in Arvada, CO.

Joyce grew up in Ellis, KS and is the
second eldest of ten children born to Edward and Bertha (Flax) Riedel. Joyce
attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and was a 1968 graduate from Ellis High
School.

Joyce enjoyed tending to her yard
and her beautiful flowers, keeping her lawn pristine at her family home. Joyce
had an impeccable work ethic whether at home or in her place of employment in
the check and printing industry. She was a master of frugality. Estate sales,
garage sales and thrifting were among her favorite pastimes. If she could find
a new or nearly-new, inexpensive item, either for herself or others, she would!
Family members would often ask her to keep a watchful eye out for a special item
for them; so very proud when she could present them with the item they
requested.

Most of all, Joyce loved and was devoted
to her children and grandchildren. She was always determined to provide
everything they needed but certainly not everything they wanted, thankfully!
Nothing made her happier than to see her children and grandchildren thrive.

Joyce is survived by her children; Br.
Conrad (Brent) Richardson, fbp of St. Paul, MN, Blake Richardson of Arvada, CO,
and Brittany (Richardson) Knight and husband, Justin, of Northglenn, CO, and
also her grandchildren; Emily, Isaiah and Ava.

Joyce is also survived by her
siblings; Judy (Vic) Manz, Arvada, CO, Wanda (David) Hill, Peyton, CO, Bernita
Augustine, Wakeeney, KS, Melvin (Donna) Riedel, Marvin (Arlene) Riedel, Mary
Kay (Curtis) Weber, all from Ellis, KS, Darren Riedel, Talala, OK, Sister-in-Law,
Laura Riedel, Wichita, KS, and Veronika Riedel, Arvada, CO, and many nieces and
nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents
and her brothers, Troy and Duane Riedel.

A memorial service will be held at
Aspen Mortuaries of Arvada, 6370 Union Street, Arvada, CO, 80004 on September
27, 2025, 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. 

On Saturday, October 4, 2025 at
10:00 a.m. there will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church in Ellis, KS. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the mass. A
procession to the Cemetery will immediately follow the service where the
inurnment will take place.

OPEC+ output increases got started early, as Iraq jumps the gun. Reuters cites Iraq's oil marketing company reporting its crude shipments increasing 20,000 to 25,000 barrels a day. The move follows the agreement last month by eight cartel members to collectively raise output by 137,000 barrels a day starting in October.

The European Union over the weekend bowed to pressure from President Trump and proposed sanctions for Chinese firms buying Russian oil. The measures also includes new banking sanctions, and if approved would blacklist additional companies aiding Russia’s military.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Selling high and buying low nets the government one and a quarter billion dollars. Add another half million barrels to the Strategic Petroleum Reserves. SPR refills in the last year total over 25 million barrels. Since refill operations resumed in April of last year the total is 41.8 million barrels, at markdowns of more than $30 a barrel.

Commercial stockpiles dropped more than two percent from a week ago and 0.5% &nbsp;from a year ago.&nbsp; The Energy Information Administration reports inventories of 415.4 million as of September 12. EIA says stockpiles are about five percent below the five year seasonal average.

US crude production for the week through September 12 averaged 13,482,000 barrels per day, down 13-thousand barrels per day from the week before. The four-week and year-to-date averages remain about two percent higher than a year ago.

After dropping by one third the week before, crude-oil exports nearly doubled last week, and almost surpassed imports. The Energy Information Administration reports average exports topped five million barrels a day for only the second time this year at 5.2 million. That's the highest report since December of 2023.

US refiners imported 5.7 million barrels of crude per day last week, down by more than half a million from a week ago. The four-week average is own 2.4% year over year.

Thus, the US is a net crude importer, but only by 415,000 barrels a day, the smallest such comparison since EIA began tracking weekly net imports.

Independent Oil and Gas Service reports seven well-completions in eastern Kansas and ten West of Wichita. That's 841 wells so far this year compared to 992 a year ago at this time. Total activity statewide is down by a third from last year, with 25 percent fewer wildcat wells, and total footage down by 40 percent.Kansas regulators okayed 11 new drilling locations this week, 510 so far this year, compared to over 750 a year ago. There are four new permits east of Wichita and seven in Western Kansas, including one in Ellis County.The Kansas Rig Count from Independent Oil and Gas Service is up one at six rigs in eastern Kansas and unchanged at ten rigs west of Wichita. The total is down 20 percent from a month ago and 27 percent from a year ago.The US Rotary Rig Count from Baker Hughes rises by two oil rigs to a total of 542 active rigs. The gas tally is unchanged. Wyoming and Colorado each rose by two rigs. Texas and Louisiana were each down one rig.A newly formed company is about to spud new ground in Greenland, the first US public company to do so. The move could reshape the industry and marketplace across the Arctic and around the globe. The Greenland Energy Company has already gained the needed government approvals and is now building the first service roads into the Jameson Land Basin in East Greenland. Seismic research suggests there are more than 50 potential oil and gas drilling targets involving recoverable resources in the multi-billion-barrel range.
