On Saturday April 27, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office will be participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. This event allows for the public to anonymously dispose of old, unused, unwanted, or no longer needed medications. Theevent will be held in the north parking lot of the Ellis County Law Enforcement Center, 105 W. 12th St, in Hays.
The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting.
Items that will be accepted are tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs.
Prescription medications can be disposed of in the original container or placed in a Ziploc bag. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container. The cap must be tightly sealed to prevent leakage.
Syringes, sharps and illicit drugs will not be accepted.
