K-State Extension sets Hays workshop for Oct. 6 for food entrepreneurs

MANHATTAN — Growing a food business takes more than hustle; it takes strategy, community and the right conversations at the right time.

An upcoming workshop led by K-State Extension's Community Food Systems team, in partnership with local agents and community-based organizations, will help participants better understand what they can do to access retail space, unlock funding opportunities, utilize available assets, and learn food safety skills.

The event is designed to help businesses move from stuck to strategic and leave ready to turn their food entrepreneurship dreams into reality.

Who is invited?

Local extension agents and Foodpreneurs, from restaurant owners and food truck operators to home kitchen producers and value-added food creators; and those interested in starting a food business.

Whether you’re just starting out or scaling up, this event will equip you with the tools and knowledge to thrive.

Hays Food Business Workshop

Tuesday, Oct. 6, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. in Hays Register for $20.

What to expect:• 

• Peer-to-peer learning sessions to share insights and strategies.
• Expert panels covering critical topics like accessing retail space, securing financing, ensuring food safety, and training employees.
• Funding and food safety discussions to help you navigate challenges and opportunities.
• A keynote lunch catered by LB Brewing, a local Hays food business.
• Presented in collaboration with K-State Extension’s Cottonwood District.
