ELLIS — At 6:58 p.m. Thursday, officers from the Ellis Police Department were dispatched to Love’s Travel Stop for a reported disturbance involving a firearm.

Officers arrived on scene and interviewed all parties involved in the disturbance.

After speaking with witnesses, the suspect — identified as Marvin Gaines, 46, Boynton Beach, Fla. — was placed under arrest.

Officers later recovered a handgun that was used in the disturbance, along with suspected marijuana.

This disturbance stemmed from a disagreement over fuel lines at the commercial diesel pumps.

Gaines was transported to the Ellis County jail, where he is being held on requested charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threat and possession of marijuana.

Gaines is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas Highway Patrol and the Hays Communications Center assisted in the incident.
